[0044] The detailed description of the appended drawings is intended as a description of the preferred embodiments of the present disclosure and is not intended to represent the only form in which the present disclosure may be practiced. It should be understood that the same or equivalent functions may be accomplished by different embodiments that are intended to be encompassed within the spirit and scope of the present disclosure.

[0045] Reference will now be made in detail to some embodiments of the present disclosure, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. To facilitate understanding, embodiments are provided under a specific network architecture (s) and new service scenarios, such as the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) 5G NR or 6G, 3GPP LTE, and so on. It is contemplated that along with the development of network architectures and new service scenarios, all embodiments in the present disclosure are also applicable to similar technical problems; and moreover, the terminologies recited in the present disclosure may change, which should not affect the principles of the present disclosure.

[0046] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a unified framework for supporting command-based mobility and conditional mobility. Implementing such unified framework requires addressing several technical challenges. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions to these challenges.

[0047] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of wireless communication system 100 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0048] The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more NEs 102 (e.g., one or more BSs) , one or more UEs 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communication system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be an NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultra-wideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communication system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , and IEEE 802.20. The wireless communication system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communication system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0049] The one or more NEs 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communication system 100. One or more of the NEs 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) node, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the one or more NEs 102 may include different types of BSs (e.g., macro BS, pico BS, femto BS, relay BS, etc. ) . These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels and different coverage areas. For example, a macro BS may have a relatively high transmit power level, while pico BSs, femto BSs, and relay BSs may have a relatively low transmit power levels. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an NE 102 may include a CU and one or more DUs. An F1 interface may be established between the DU of NE 102 and the CU of NE 102.

[0050] An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0051] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with a different NE 102.

[0052] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communication system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0053] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0054] A relaying function based on a sidelink may be supported in the wireless communication system 100. For example, a UE 104 supporting sidelink communication may function as a relay node to extend the coverage of an NE 102 (e.g., a BS) . An out-of-coverage or in-coverage UE may communicate with a BS via a relay node (e.g., a relay UE) . In some implementations, a UE, which functions as a relay between another UE and a BS, may be referred to as a UE-to-network (U2N) relay.

[0055] An NE 102 may support communication with the CN 106, or with another NE 102 or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with another NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3 or another network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106) . In some implementations, one or more NEs 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0056] In some implementations, an NE 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more NEs 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, an NE 102 may include one or more of a CU, a DU, a radio unit (RU) (e.g., a TRP) , a RAN intelligent controller (RIC) (e.g., a near-real time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a non-real time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a service management and orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof. One or more components of the NEs 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the NEs 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more NEs 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) or a virtual DU (VDU) ) .

[0057] Split of functionality between a CU and a DU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU or a DU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host higher protocol layers (e.g., L3 (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) layer) and parts of L2 (e.g., service data adaption protocol (SDAP) layer and packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer) functionality and signaling. The CU may be connected to one or more DUs, which may host lower protocol layers (e.g., L1 (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) and parts of L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer and medium access control (MAC) layer) ) functionality and signaling, and be at least partially controlled by the CU. A DU may support one or multiple different cells. A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions.

[0058] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , a 5G core (5GC) , or 6G core, which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management function (AMF) ) functions and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NEs 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0059] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0060] In the wireless communication system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communication system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communication) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies such as 6G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0061] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communication system 100, and a numerology may include subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ =1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A sixth numerology (e.g., μ =5) may be associated with a sixth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 480 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A seventh numerology (e.g., μ=6) may be associated with a seventh subcarrier spacing (e.g., 960 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. For ambient IoT communication, additional numerologies (e.g., μ=-1 or μ =-2) may be introduced corresponding to 7.5 kHz or 3.75 kHz, respectively.

[0062] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0063] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communication system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings (SCSs) of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0064] In the wireless communication system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communication system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communication over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communication traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0065] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ =0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ =1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least two numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0066] A UE 104 may include computing devices, such as desktop computers, laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs) , tablet computers, smart televisions (e.g., televisions connected to the Internet) , set-top boxes, game consoles, security systems (including security cameras) , vehicle on-board computers, network devices (e.g., routers, switches, and modems) , or the like. According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE 104 may include a portable wireless communication device, a smart phone, a cellular telephone, a flip phone, a device having a subscriber identity module, a personal computer, a selective call receiver, or any other device that is capable of sending and receiving communication signals on a wireless network. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE 104 includes wearable devices, such as smart watches, fitness bands, optical head-mounted displays, or the like. Moreover, a UE 104 may be referred to as a subscriber unit, a mobile, a mobile station, a user, a terminal, a mobile terminal, a wireless terminal, a fixed terminal, a subscriber station, a user terminal, or a device, or described using other terminology used in the art. A UE 104 may communicate with an NE 102 (e.g., a BS) via uplink (UL) communication signals. An NE 102 may communicate with a UE 104 via downlink (DL) communication signals.

[0067] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate over licensed spectrums, whereas in some other embodiments, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate over unlicensed spectrums. The present disclosure is not intended to be limited to the implementation of any particular wireless communication system architecture or protocol. Persons skilled in the art should understand that as technology develops and advances, the terminologies described in the present disclosure may change, but should not affect or limit the principles and spirit of the present disclosure.

[0068] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a unified framework for supporting command-based mobility and conditional mobility. As will be described in the following embodiments of the present disclosure, the command-based mobility may include L1 or L2 triggered mobility (e.g., via a DCI, a MAC CE, or an RRC signaling) or L3 command-based handover (e.g., via RRC signaling) . The conditional mobility may include conditional handover and conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility. This unified framework can be employed in a 6G system or any other suitable communication systems. More details on the embodiments of the present disclosure will be illustrated in the following text in combination with the appended drawings. In the following text of the present disclosure, the terms "handover" and "cell switch" can be used interchangeably.

[0069] FIG. 2 illustrates exemplary cell switch procedure 200 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. Details described in all of the foregoing embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in FIG. 2.

[0070] Referring to FIG. 2, UE 204 may connect to (or access) BS 202A. For example, UE 204 may access a cell of BS 202A, whereby this cell can be referred to as the "serving cell" of UE 204 and BS 202A can be referred to as the "serving BS" of UE 204. In some embodiments, the UE context of UE 204 within BS 202A including, for example, information regarding roaming and access restrictions may be provided to the network (e.g., a CN, not shown in FIG. 2) .

[0071] In some embodiments, UE 204 may access the network via single connectivity and BS 202A is associated with the MCG of UE 204. In some embodiments, UE 204 may access the network via multi-connectivity (e.g., via dual-connectivity (DC) ) . For example, in addition to BS 202A, UE 204 may connect to another BS (denoted as BS #A) . In some examples, BS 202A and BS #A may be respectively associated with the MCG and SCG of UE 204, and thus may be respectively referred to as an MN and a SN of UE 204. In some examples, BS 202A and BS #A may be respectively associated with the SCG and MCG of UE 204, and thus may be respectively referred to as an SN and an MN of UE 204. In some embodiments, BS 202A may be a gNB or a 6G radio (6GR) BS. In some embodiments, BS 202A may include a CU and at least one DU.

[0072] At 211, UE 204 may transmit UE capability information (e.g., a capability related message) to BS 202A. In some examples, the UE capability information is transmitted in response to a request from BS 202A. In some examples, the request for UE capability information may be transmitted from the MN and the UE capability information may be transmitted to the MN. In some examples, the request for UE capability information may be transmitted from the SN and the UE capability information may be transmitted to the SN.

[0073] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include first information indicating whether UE 204 supports a conditional-based handover. For example, the first information may indicate whether UE 204 supports a conditional-based handover in a 6G system.

[0074] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include second information indicating whether UE 204 supports a DCI command-based handover. For example, the second information may indicate whether UE 204 supports a DCI command-based handover in a 6G system. The DCI command-based handover refers to the case where UE 204 is triggered to apply a stored candidate configuration for a candidate cell indicated by a DCI in response to a reception of the DCI. For example, UE 204 may be configured with a candidate configuration for at least one candidate cell and may store the configuration in its memory. When UE 204 receives, from BS 202A, a DCI indicating a specific candidate cell among the at least one candidate cell, UE 204 may perform a handover to the indicated candidate cell using the candidate configuration for this candidate cell stored at UE 204.

[0075] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include third information indicating whether UE 204 supports a MAC command-based handover. For example, the third information may indicate whether UE 204 supports a MAC command-based handover in a 6G system. The MAC command-based handover refers to the case where UE 204 is triggered to apply stored candidate configuration for a candidate cell indicated by a MAC CE command in response to a reception of the MAC CE command. For example, UE 204 may be configured with a candidate configuration for at least one candidate cell and may store the configuration in its memory. When UE 204 receives, from BS 202A, a MAC CE indicating a specific candidate cell among the at least one candidate cell, UE 204 may perform a handover to the indicated candidate cell using the candidate configuration for this candidate cell stored at UE 204.

[0076] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include fourth information indicating whether UE 204 supports an RRC command-based handover. For example, the fourth information may indicate whether UE 204 supports an RRC command-based handover in a 6G system. The RRC command-based handover refers to the case where UE 204 is triggered to apply stored candidate configuration for a candidate cell indicated by an RRC command in response to a reception of the RRC command. For example, UE 204 may be configured with a candidate configuration for at least one candidate cell and may store the configuration in its memory. When UE 204 receives, from BS 202A, an RRC command indicating a specific candidate cell among the at least one candidate cell, UE 204 may perform a handover to the indicated candidate cell using the candidate configuration for this candidate cell stored at UE 204.

[0077] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include fifth information indicating whether UE 204 supports a delta candidate configuration based on a reference configuration. For example, the fifth information may indicate whether UE 204 supports a delta candidate configuration based on a reference configuration in a 6G system. For example, UE 204 may be configured with a reference configuration and a delta candidate configuration for each of at least one candidate cell. UE 204 may determine the candidate configuration for each of the candidate cell based on the corresponding delta candidate configuration and the reference configuration.

[0078] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include sixth information indicating whether UE 204 supports a delta candidate configuration based on a source configuration. The source configuration refers to the configuration used by UE 204 to communicate with its serving cell (s) or serving BS (e.g., BS 202A) , and may include, for example, current RRC settings and parameters that UE 204 is currently using and has stored in its memory. Source BS may transmit the source configuration to a candidate BS which can generate delta candidate configuration based on the source configuration. For example, the sixth information may indicate whether UE 204 supports a delta candidate configuration based on a source configuration in a 6G system. For example, UE 204 may be configured with a source configuration and a delta candidate configuration for each of at least one candidate cell. UE 204 may determine the candidate configuration for each of the candidate cell based on the corresponding delta candidate configuration and the source configuration.

[0079] In some embodiments, the UE capability information may include one or more of the first information to sixth information.

[0080] At 213, BS 202A may transmit, to UE 204, a measurement configuration for UE 204 to perform various measurements. Based on the received measurement configuration, UE 204 may perform measurements at 215, and may report measurements results to BS 202A (i.e., the serving cell or BS) at 217. For example, UE 204 may transmit a measurement report message (e.g., L3 measurement results) including measurements of the neighboring cells to BS 202A.

[0081] In some embodiments, based on the measurement results, BS 202A may determine to use a handover with or without condition at 219 and may perform a handover preparation procedure. In the scenario of handover, BS 202A may also be referred to as the source BS. For example, at 231, BS 202A may transmit a request message for handover to a candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 202B) for at least one candidate cell preparation. The request message may include at least one of the source configuration or a reference configuration for the candidate cell preparation. BS 202B may perform admission control in response to receiving the request message. At 233, BS 202B may provide the prepared candidate configuration (s) to BS 202A. As will be described later, the candidate configuration (s) may include at least one of a target cell configuration, an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration, a conditional handover candidate configuration, or a conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration.

[0082] In some embodiments, BS 202A may transmit a configuration update message to the candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 202B) to update the configurations of candidate cell (s) . BS 202A may include a common reference configuration. The candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 202B) may transmit the configuration update acknowledge message to BS 202A. The candidate BS (s) may also provide the channel state information (CSI) report configuration. The candidate BS may include the CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition of the candidate cell (s) .

[0083] At 235, BS 202A may transmit the candidate configuration (s) , the CSI report configuration (s) or both to UE 204 via, for example, an RRC reconfiguration message. UE 204 may store the configuration (s) and apply the configuration (s) immediately or at a later time (e.g., in response to receiving a cell switch command or an execution condition being met) . UE 204 may transmit an RRC configuration complete message to BS 202A. Note that, as will be described below, in some cases, "candidate BS" , "candidate cell" , and "candidate configuration" may be referred to as "target BS" , "target cell" , and "target configuration" .

[0084] In some embodiments, if early data forwarding is applied, BS 202A may transmit the early status transfer message to the candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 202B) .

[0085] In some embodiments, early DL and UL synchronization to at least one candidate cell may be performed. BS 202A may activate or deactivate the transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states of the candidate cell. Depending on network configuration, UE 204 may perform early UL synchronization with the candidate cell, by using UE-based TA measurement (if configured) and / or by transmitting a preamble towards the candidate cell, as triggered by BS 202A.

[0086] In some embodiments, UE 204 may perform L1 measurements on the configured L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cell (s) and transmit L1 measurement reports to BS 202A, if configured. L1 measurement may be performed as long as the RRC reconfiguration is applicable.

[0087] For example, BS 202A may determine to hand over UE 204 to a target cell (e.g., handover without condition) at 219. Then, at 231, BS 202A may transmit a request for handing over UE 204 (e.g., a handover request) to BS 202B. BS 202B may perform admission control. If UE 204 is admitted, BS 202B may transmit a response message acknowledging the handover to BS 202A at 233. The response message may include a configuration associated with the target cell. At 235, BS 202A may transmit the configuration associated with the target cell to UE 204 via, for example, an RRC reconfiguration message. UE 204 may apply the RRC reconfiguration message (i.e., apply the configuration associated with the target cell) in response to receiving the RRC reconfiguration message. This scenario may also be referred to as L3 command-based handover or RRC command-based handover.

[0088] For example, the RRC reconfiguration message may include a reconfiguration-with-sync information element (IE) . In some embodiments, UE 204 may apply the configuration associated with the target cell based on (e.g., on top of) the source configuration in response to receiving the RRC reconfiguration message. That is, the configuration associated with the target cell in the RRC reconfiguration message may be a delta configuration based on the source configuration. In some embodiments, the configuration associated with the target cell may be a complete configuration or a delta configuration based on a reference configuration. For example, UE 204 may perform a random-access procedure towards the target cell according to the configuration and may access the target cell. UE 204 may complete the handover procedure by transmitting an RRC configuration complete message to BS 202B. BS 202B may transmit a handover success indication to BS 202A to inform that UE 204 has successfully accessed the target cell.

[0089] For example, BS 202A may determine to use an L1 or L2 triggered mobility (e.g., via a DCI, a MAC CE, or RRC signaling) . For example, BS 202A may determine to prepare at least one L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cell for UE 204 at 219. The at least one candidate cell may or may not include cells of BS 202A. Then, at 231, BS 202A may transmit a request for an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration for one or more candidate cells to BS 202B. The request may or may not include information related to subsequent L1 or L2 triggered mobility. At 233, BS 202B may transmit a response message including the L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration of a candidate cell (s) prepared by BS 202B to BS 202A.

[0090] At 235, BS 202A may transmit the L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration to UE 204. UE 204 may store the candidate configuration. UE 204 may evaluate at least one L1 event based on an L1 event configuration and may transmit an L1 measurement report to BS 202A in response to an L1 event being satisfied. Based on the L1 measurement report and / or L3 measurement report from UE 204, BS 202A may determine to execute a cell switch to a target cell (e.g., a cell of BS 202B) and transmits a cell switch command triggering cell switch by including a target configuration. For example, the cell switch command may indicate an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration stored at UE 204. UE 204 may apply the L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration as indicated by the cell switch command and access the target cell. UE 204 may complete the handover procedure by transmitting an RRC configuration complete message to BS 202B. BS 202B may transmit a handover success indication to BS 202A to inform that UE 204 has successfully accessed the target cell.

[0091] For example, the cell switch command may be transmitted in a MAC CE. This scenario may also be referred to as MAC CE command-based L1 or L2 triggered mobility. In some embodiments, UE 204 may apply the indicated candidate configuration based on (e.g., on top of) a reference configuration in response to receiving the MAC CE cell switch command. In some embodiments, the candidate configuration may be a complete configuration or a delta configuration based on the source configuration.

[0092] For example, the cell switch command may be a L1 or L3 cell switch command. For example, the cell switch command may be transmitted via RRC signaling or in a DCI. This scenario may also be referred to as RRC / DCI command-based L1 or L2 triggered mobility. In some embodiments, UE 204 may apply the indicated candidate configuration in response to receiving the cell switch command. In some embodiments, the candidate configuration may be a complete configuration or a delta configuration based on a reference configuration or a source configuration.

[0093] In some embodiments, artificial intelligence (AI) based measurement may be supported. BS 202A can prepare the candidate configuration in advance based on predicted measurement results. BS 202A can deliver the prepared candidate configuration to UE 204 earlier. BS 202A may determine the suitable timing point to execute based on actual L1 / L3 measurement results.

[0094] In some embodiments, the L1 or L3 cell switch command may indicate at least one of an ID or index of the target cell, a RACH resource (e.g., a contention-free random access (CFRA) ) , activated beam information (e.g., TCI state) , an indication to trigger early CSI report, an activated SR configuration, an activated CG configuration, or an early TA value.

[0095] For example, BS 202A may determine to use a conditional-based handover (e.g., a conditional handover or a conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility) .

[0096] Taking the conditional handover as an example, BS 202A may request conditional handover for one or more candidate cells belong to one or more candidate BSs. The candidate cells may or may not include cells of BS 202A. For example, at 231, BS 202A may transmit a request for conditional handover to BS 202B (i.e., a candidate BS) for preparing at least one candidate cell. At 233, BS 202B may transmit a response message acknowledging the conditional handover to BS 202A. The response message may include a conditional handover candidate configuration (s) of a candidate cell (s) prepared by BS 202B. At 235, BS 202A may transmit the conditional handover candidate configuration (s) and the corresponding conditional handover execution condition (s) to UE 204 via, for example, an RRC reconfiguration message. UE 204 may maintain the connection with BS 202A after receiving the conditional handover configuration and may store the received conditional handover configuration. UE 204 may evaluate the execution condition (s) for the candidate cell (s) . When at least one candidate cell satisfies the corresponding execution condition, UE 204 may perform a handover to one (i.e., the target cell, such as a candidate cell prepared by BS 202B) of the least one candidate cell. This scenario may also be referred to as conditional handover-based handover.

[0097] For example, UE 204 may apply the corresponding candidate configuration for the target cell stored at UE 204 in response to the corresponding execution condition being satisfied. In some embodiments, UE 204 may apply the candidate configuration based on (e.g., on top of) the source configuration. In some embodiments, the candidate configuration may be a complete configuration or a delta configuration based on a reference configuration. That is, UE 204 may apply the candidate configuration directly or based on (e.g., on top of) the reference configuration.

[0098] The procedure of the conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility may be a procedure combining the procedure of conditional handover-based handover and the procedure of the L1 or L2 triggered mobility. For example, UE 204 may receive, from BS 202A, a conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration for at least one candidate cell and the corresponding execution condition configuration. The candidate configuration may be prepared by a candidate BS (e.g., BS 202B) . UE 204 may perform L1 measurements and / or L3 measurements and evaluate the execution conditions for the candidate cells according to the configurations. In response to an execution condition for a certain candidate cell (e.g., a candidate cell prepared by BS 202B) is satisfied, UE 204 may perform a handover to the candidate cell (i.e., the target cell) . For example, UE 204 may apply the corresponding candidate configuration for the target cell stored at UE 204. This scenario may also be referred to as conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility.

[0099] For example, UE 204 may apply the corresponding candidate configuration for the target cell stored at UE 204 in response to the corresponding execution condition being satisfied. In some embodiments, UE 204 may apply the candidate configuration based on (e.g., on top of) a reference configuration. In some embodiments, the candidate configuration may be a complete configuration or a delta configuration based on the source configuration. That is, UE 204 may apply the candidate configuration directly or based on (e.g., on top of) the source configuration.

[0100] UE 204 may complete the handover procedure by transmitting an RRC configuration complete message to BS 202B (i.e., the target BS) . BS 202B may transmit a handover success indication to BS 202A to inform that UE 204 has successfully accessed the target cell.

[0101] As described above, both source configuration-based delta candidate configuration and reference configuration-based delta candidate configuration may be supported. The candidate preparation process needs to consider this.

[0102] For example, in some embodiments, the request message transmitted by BS 202A to BS 202B (i.e., a candidate BS) at 231 may indicate whether the delta candidate configuration is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration. Accordingly, the request message may include the source configuration or the reference configuration. That is, the source BS or cell (e.g., BS 202A) determines whether the delta candidate configuration is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration, and the candidate BS or cell (e.g., BS 202B) prepares the delta candidate configuration according to the indication.

[0103] In some embodiments, the request message transmitted by BS 202A to BS 202B (i.e., a candidate BS) at 231 may include both the source configuration and the reference configuration. The response message transmitted by BS 202B to BS 202A may indicate whether the delta candidate configuration prepared by BS 202B is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration. That is the candidate BS or cell (e.g., BS 202B) determines whether the delta candidate configuration is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration.

[0104] BS 202A may, at 235, indicate to UE 204 that the candidate configuration for a candidate cell is based on (e.g., on top of) a source configuration or a reference configuration.

[0105] In some embodiments, BS 202A may transmit a cell switch notification message to BS 202B (i.e., the target BS) to indicate the initiation of cell switch command to UE 204. BS 202A may inform the acquired TA related information.

[0106] In some embodiments, UE 204 may perform the random-access procedure towards the target cell or UE 204 may perform a RACH-less procedure.

[0107] In some embodiments, BS 202B (i.e., the target BS or the new source BS) may transmit a configuration update message to the candidate BS (s) . This message may include the new security key (s) to be used with UE 204. The candidate BS (s) may respond to a configuration update acknowledge message to BS 202B. BS 202B may transmit a UE context release message to inform BS 202A (i.e., the old source BS) to release radio and C-plane related resources associated with the UE context if no L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cells exist in BS 202A. Any ongoing data forwarding may continue.

[0108] It should be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the sequence of the operations in exemplary procedure 200 may be changed and that some of the operations in exemplary procedure 200 may be eliminated or modified, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.

[0109] FIG. 3 illustrates exemplary cell switch procedure 300 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. Details described in all of the foregoing embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in FIG. 3.

[0110] Referring to FIG. 3, UE 304 may connect to (or access) BS 302A. For example, UE 304 may access a cell of BS 302A, whereby this cell can be referred to as the "serving cell" of UE 304 and BS 302A can be referred to as the "serving BS" of UE 304. In some embodiments, the UE context of UE 304 within BS 302A including, for example, information regarding roaming and access restrictions may be provided to the network (e.g., a CN, not shown in FIG. 3) .

[0111] In some embodiments, UE 304 may access the network via single connectivity and BS 302A is associated with the MCG of UE 304. In some embodiments, UE 304 may access the network via multi-connectivity (e.g., via DC) . For example, in addition to BS 302A, UE 304 may connect to another BS (denoted as BS #B) . In some examples, BS 302A and BS #B may be respectively associated with the MCG and SCG of UE 304, and thus may be respectively referred to as an MN and a SN of UE 304. In some examples, BS 302A and BS #B may be respectively associated with the SCG and MCG of UE 304, and thus may be respectively referred to as an SN and an MN of UE 304. In some embodiments, BS 302A may be a gNB or a 6G radio (6GR) BS. In some embodiments, BS 302A may include a CU and at least one DU.

[0112] At 311, UE 304 may transmit UE capability information (e.g., a capability related message) to BS 302A. In some examples, the UE capability information is transmitted in response to a request from BS 302A. In some examples, the request for UE capability information may be transmitted from the MN and the UE capability information may be transmitted to the MN. In some examples, the request for UE capability information may be transmitted from the SN and the UE capability information may be transmitted to the SN. The descriptions of the UE capability information mentioned with respect to FIG. 2 can apply here and are thus omitted here. For example, the UE capability information may include one or more of the first information to sixth information as mentioned with respect to FIG. 2.

[0113] At 313, BS 302A may transmit, to UE 304, a measurement configuration for UE 304 to perform various measurements. Based on the received measurement configuration, UE 304 may perform measurements at 315, and may report measurements results to BS 302A (i.e., the serving cell or BS) at 317. For example, UE 304 may transmit a measurement report message (e.g., L3 measurement results) including measurements of the neighboring cells to BS 302A.

[0114] In some embodiments, based on the measurement results, BS 302A may determine to use a handover with or without condition at 319 and may perform a handover preparation procedure. The descriptions of candidate cell preparation and candidate configuration mentioned with respect to FIG. 2 can apply here.

[0115] For example, at 331, BS 302A may transmit a request message for handover to a candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 302B) for at least one candidate cell preparation. The request message may include at least one of the source configuration or a reference configuration for the cndidate cell preparation. BS 302B may perform admission control in response to receiving the request message. At 333, BS 302B may provide the prepared candidate configuration (s) to BS 302A. As described with respect to FIG. 2, the candidate configuration (s) may include at least one of a target cell configuration, an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration, a conditional handover candidate configuration, or a conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration.

[0116] In some embodiments, BS 302A may transmit a configuration update message to the candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 302B) to update the configurations of candidate cell (s) . BS 302A may include a reference configuration in the message. The candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 302B) may transmit the configuration update acknowledge message to BS 302A. The candidate BS (s) may also provide the CSI report configuration. The candidate BS may include the CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition of the candidate cell (s) .

[0117] At 335, BS 302A may transmit the candidate configuration (s) , the CSI report configuration (s) or both to UE 304 via, for example, an RRC reconfiguration message. UE 304 may store the configuration (s) and apply the configuration (s) immediately or at a later time (e.g., in response to receiving a cell switch command or an execution condition being met) . UE 304 may transmit an RRC configuration complete message to BS 302A.

[0118] In some embodiments, one or more of source configuration-based delta candidate configuration, reference configuration-based delta candidate configuration and complete candidate configuration may be supported. In some examples, when configuring the candidate configuration (s) for UE 304 (e.g., at 335 via the RRC reconfiguration message) , BS 302A may indicate that the candidate configuration for a candidate cell is associated with a source configuration, associated with a reference configuration, is a complete configuration, or is not a complete configuration. In the reference configuration-based delta candidate configuration, BS 302A may configure a delta candidate configuration for a candidate cell, and UE 304 may apply the delta candidate configuration on top of a reference configuration to determine a complete candidate configuration for the candidate cell. This reference configuration (denoted as reference #1) can be implemented in various manners. In some embodiments, when BS 302A indicates a reference configuration-based delta candidate configuration or that the candidate configuration for a candidate cell is not a complete configuration, or BS 302A does not indicate a complete configuration, UE 304 may apply the delta candidate configuration on top of reference #1 to determine the complete candidate configuration.

[0119] In some embodiments, reference #1 may include a reference configuration (denoted as reference #A1) common for all candidate BSs and a reference configuration (denoted as reference #A2) specific for each candidate BS. BS 302A may transmit reference #A1 as well as reference #A2 for each candidate BS to UE 304 for determining a complete candidate configuration for a candidate cell.

[0120] Reference #A1 may be determined by BS 302A and may be transmitted to each candidate BS. For example, reference #A1 may be transmitted to BS 302B in the request message for handover at 331. In some examples, for each candidate BS (e.g., BS 302B) , BS 302A may coordinate with the candidate BS to obtain reference #A2 for this candidate BS. In some examples, BS 302A may receive corresponding reference #A2 from each candidate BS.

[0121] For example, BS 302A may transmit a draft specific reference configuration to BS 302B, which may transmit final reference #A2 for BS 302B to BS 302A. For example, BS 302A may provide reference #A1 to BS 302B, which may determine and provide its reference #A2 to BS 302A. For example, reference #A2 may be provided via an acknowledge message (e.g., at 333) in response to the request message from BS 302A. For a candidate cell prepared by BS 302B, UE 304 may determine the (complete) candidate configuration for the candidate cell based the delta candidate configuration for the candidate cell, reference #A1 and reference #A2 for BS 302B.

[0122] In some embodiments, reference #1 may be a reference configuration (denoted as reference #B) common for BSs within an area. The area may be a tracking area or refer to a list of BSs. Reference #B may be determined by a CN node (e.g., an access and mobility management function entity in the CN) and provided to each BS in the area. Alternatively, BSs in the area can negotiate with each other to determine reference #B.

[0123] For example, the CN node may provide the area information to each BS in the area. During the candidate cell preparation, the source BS or cell (e.g., BS 302A) do not need to transmit a common reference configuration to a candidate BS (e.g., BS 302B) if the candidate BS belongs to the same area. For example, a specific BS (e.g., BS 302A) may be considered as an anchor BS to determine reference #B. The anchor BS may transmit reference #B to other BSs (e.g., BS 302B) belonging to the same area.

[0124] Reference #B can be broadcasted or transmitted by dedicated signaling to UE 304. UE 304 may store reference #B. When UE 304 receives the reconfiguration message for a unified mobility procedure, the network (e.g., BS 302A) may indicate whether the configuration is a complete configuration or not. If the indication of complete configuration is not received, an indication of incomplete configuration is received, or an indication of delta configuration based on a reference configuration is received, UE 304 may consider the received delta candidate configuration on top of reference #B. That is, UE 304 may determine the (complete) candidate configuration for a candidate cell based the delta candidate configuration for the candidate cell and reference #A1.

[0125] In some embodiments, reference #1 may include a reference configuration (denoted as reference #C1) common for BSs within an area and a reference configuration (denoted as reference #C2) specific for each source BS (e.g., BS 302A) . The descriptions of reference #B can apply to reference #C1. In some embodiments, BS 302A may determine reference #C2. BS 302A may transmit reference #C2 to each candidate BS for candidate cell preparation. In some embodiments, BS 302A (e.g., its DU) may request the candidate BS (e.g., its DU) to provide a draft reference configuration and then determine final reference #C2. BS 302A may transmit reference #C2 to UE 304 for determining a complete candidate configuration.

[0126] When UE 304 receives the delta candidate configuration (e.g., a conditional handover candidate configuration or an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration) in the reconfiguration message for a unified mobility procedure (e.g., conditional handover or subsequent handover) , UE 304 may consider the received delta candidate configuration on top of reference #C1 and reference #C2. That is, UE 304 may determine the (complete) candidate configuration for a candidate cell based the delta candidate configuration for the candidate cell, reference #C1 and reference #C2.

[0127] In some embodiments, reference #1 may include a reference configuration (denoted as reference #D1) common for BSs within an area and a reference configuration (denoted as reference #D2) specific for each candidate BS (e.g., BS 302B) . The descriptions of reference #B can apply to reference #D1. In some embodiments, each candidate BS (or its DU) may determine whether to provide reference #D2 for the candidate BS. BS 302A (i.e., source BS) may store reference #D2 for a candidate BS (or its DU) and transmit it to UE 304. In some embodiments, BS 302A (i.e., source BS) may determine whether to store reference #D2 and whether to transmit it to UE 304. That is, BS 302A (i.e., source BS) may or may not use the received reference #D2.

[0128] When UE 304 receives the delta candidate configuration (e.g., a conditional handover candidate configuration or an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration) in the reconfiguration message for a unified mobility procedure (e.g., conditional handover or subsequent handover) , UE 304 may consider the received delta candidate configuration on top of reference #D1 and reference #D2. That is, UE 304 may determine the (complete) candidate configuration for a candidate cell based the delta candidate configuration for the candidate cell, reference #D1 and reference #D2.

[0129] In some embodiments, if early data forwarding is applied, BS 302A may transmit the early status transfer message to the candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 302B) .

[0130] In some embodiments, early DL and UL synchronization to at least one candidate cell may be performed. BS 302A may activate or deactivate the TCI states of the candidate cell. Depending on network configuration, UE 304 may perform early UL synchronization with the candidate cell, by using UE-based TA measurement (if configured) and / or by transmitting a preamble towards the candidate cell, as triggered by BS 302A.

[0131] In some embodiments, UE 304 may perform L1 measurements on the configured L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cell (s) and transmit L1 measurement reports to BS 302A, if configured. L1 measurement may be performed as long as the RRC reconfiguration is applicable.

[0132] In some embodiments, BS 302A may determine to execute a cell switch to a target cell (e.g., a cell of BS 302B) and transmits a cell switch command triggering cell switch by including a target configuration corresponding to the target cell. For example, the cell switch command may indicate an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration stored at UE 304. UE 304 may perform a cell switch procedure towards the indicated target cell in response to receiving the cell switch command.

[0133] In some embodiments, BS 302A may transmit a cell switch notification message to BS 302B (i.e., the target BS) to indicate the initiation of cell switch command to UE 304. BS 302A may inform the acquired TA related information.

[0134] In some embodiments, UE 304 may perform the random-access procedure towards the target cell or UE 304 may perform a RACH-less procedure. In some embodiments, BS 302B (i.e., the target BS) may transmit a handover success indication to BS 302A to inform that UE 304 has successfully accessed the target cell. In some embodiments, UE 304 may complete the cell switch procedure by transmitting an RRC configuration complete message to the target cell.

[0135] In some embodiments, BS 302B (i.e., the target BS or the new source BS) may transmit a configuration update message to the candidate BS (s) . This message may include the new security key (s) to be used with UE 304. The candidate BS (s) may respond to a configuration update acknowledge message to BS 302B. BS 302B may transmit a UE context release message to inform BS 302A (i.e., the old source BS) to release radio and C-plane related resources associated with the UE context if no L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cells exist in BS 302A. Any ongoing data forwarding may continue.

[0136] It should be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the sequence of the operations in exemplary procedure 300 may be changed and that some of the operations in exemplary procedure 300 may be eliminated or modified, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.

[0137] FIG. 4 illustrates exemplary cell switch procedure 400 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. Details described in all of the foregoing embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in FIG. 4.

[0138] Referring to FIG. 4, UE 404 may connect to (or access) BS 402A. For example, UE 404 may access a cell of BS 402A, whereby this cell can be referred to as the "serving cell" of UE 404 and BS 402A can be referred to as the "serving BS" of UE 404. In some embodiments, the UE context of UE 404 within BS 402A including, for example, information regarding roaming and access restrictions may be provided to the network (e.g., a CN, not shown in FIG. 4) .

[0139] In some embodiments, UE 404 may access the network via single connectivity and BS 402A is associated with the MCG of UE 404. In some embodiments, UE 404 may access the network via multi-connectivity (e.g., via DC) . For example, in addition to BS 402A, UE 404 may connect to another BS (denoted as BS #B) . In some examples, BS 402A and BS #B may be respectively associated with the MCG and SCG of UE 404, and thus may be respectively referred to as an MN and a SN of UE 404. In some examples, BS 402A and BS #B may be respectively associated with the SCG and MCG of UE 404, and thus may be respectively referred to as an SN and an MN of UE 404. In some embodiments, BS 402A may be a gNB or a 6G radio (6GR) BS. In some embodiments, BS 402A may include a CU and at least one DU.

[0140] At 411, UE 404 may transmit UE capability information (e.g., a capability related message) to BS 402A. In some examples, the UE capability information is transmitted in response to a request from BS 402A. 2.

[0141] At 413, BS 402A may transmit, to UE 404, a measurement configuration for UE 404. Based on the received measurement configuration, UE 404 may perform measurements at 415, and may report measurements results to BS 402A (i.e., the serving cell or BS) at 417. For example, UE 404 may transmit a measurement report message (e.g., L3 measurement results) including measurements of the neighboring cells to BS 402A.

[0142] In some embodiments, based on the measurement results, BS 402A may determine to use a handover with or without condition at 419 and may perform a handover preparation procedure. The descriptions of candidate cell preparation and candidate configuration mentioned with respect to FIG. 2 can apply here.

[0143] For example, at 431, BS 402A may transmit a request message for handover to a candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 402B) for at least one candidate cell preparation. BS 402B may perform admission control in response to receiving the request message. At 433, BS 402B may provide the prepared candidate configuration (s) to BS 402A. As described with respect to FIG. 2, the candidate configuration (s) may include at least one of a target cell configuration, an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration, a conditional handover candidate configuration, or a conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration.

[0144] In some embodiments, BS 402A may transmit a configuration update message to the candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 402B) to update the configurations of candidate cell (s) . BS 402A may include a common reference configuration. The candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 402B) may transmit the configuration update acknowledge message to BS 402A. The candidate BS (s) may also provide the CSI report configuration. The candidate BS may include the CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition of the candidate cell (s) .

[0145] At 435, BS 402A may transmit the candidate configuration (s) , the CSI report configuration (s) or both to UE 404 via, for example, an RRC reconfiguration message. UE 404 may store the configuration (s) and apply the configuration (s) immediately or at a later time (e.g., in response to receiving a cell switch command or an execution condition being met) . In some embodiments, the L3 command-based handover may support a subsequent handover. After UE 404 receives the L3 handover command via the RRC reconfiguration message at 435, UE 404 may apply it immediately and may perform the handover. UE 404 may store the candidate configuration for subsequent handover. UE 404 may transmit an RRC configuration complete message to BS 402A.

[0146] In some embodiments, if early data forwarding is applied, BS 402A may transmit the early status transfer message to the candidate BS (s) (e.g., BS 402B) .

[0147] In some embodiments, early DL and UL synchronization to at least one candidate cell may be performed. BS 402A may activate or deactivate the TCI states of the candidate cell. Depending on network configuration, UE 404 may perform early UL synchronization with the candidate cell, by using UE-based TA measurement (if configured) and / or by transmitting a preamble towards the candidate cell, as triggered by BS 402A.

[0148] In some embodiments, UE 404 may perform L1 measurements on the configured L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cell (s) and transmit L1 measurement reports to BS 402A, if configured. L1 measurement may be performed as long as the RRC reconfiguration is applicable.

[0149] In some embodiments, all types of handovers may be accommodated by a unified candidate configuration structure (e.g., a unified IE such as "HO-candidate" ) . For example, the unified IE can be used to configure at least one of a target cell configuration, an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration, a conditional handover candidate configuration, or a conditional L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration. When UE 404 receives configuration information including a candidate configuration related to a candidate cell from BS 402A, it needs to determine whether to apply the candidate configuration immediately. For example, the candidate configuration may explicitly or implicitly indicate whether to apply the candidate configuration upon the reception.

[0150] For example, the candidate configuration may indicate whether UE 404 applies the candidate configuration for handover in response to receiving the configuration information. For example, when the candidate configuration does not include a cell switch execution condition, it suggests that UE 404 should apply the candidate configuration for handover in response to receiving the configuration information. For example, when the candidate configuration does not include a cell switch execution condition and does not indicate a subsequent cell switch, it suggests that UE 404 should apply the candidate configuration for handover in response to receiving the configuration information. For example, from the perspective of UE 404, UE 404 may apply the candidate configuration upon the reception when the candidate configuration does not include a cell switch execution condition or when the candidate configuration does not include a cell switch execution condition and does not indicate a subsequent cell switch.

[0151] In some embodiments, additional information may be introduced to the unified IE to facilitate configuration. For example, a candidate configuration for a candidate cell may include at least one of a subsequent cell switch indication, a RAT type, or a cell type. For example, if BS 402A (i.e., the source BS or source cell) determines a subsequent handover for a candidate cell (e.g., a cell of BS 402B) , a subsequent cell switch indication can be added in the request message at 431. For example, an inter-RAT handover may be supported. The candidate node information such as the RAT type (e.g.., 4G, 5G or 6G) of a candidate cell may be indicated in the candidate configuration for the candidate cell. For example, a handover towards a non-terrestrial network (NTN) may be supported. The candidate node information such as the cell type (e.g.., NTN or terrestrial network (TN) ) of a candidate cell may be indicated in the candidate configuration for the candidate cell.

[0152] In some embodiments, BS 402A may determine to execute a cell switch to a target cell (e.g., a cell of BS 402B) and transmits a cell switch command triggering cell switch by including a target configuration corresponding to the target cell. For example, the cell switch command may indicate an L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate configuration stored at UE 404. The cell switch command may be a MAC CE command, an L1 command or an L3 command. The L1 command or L3 command may indicate at least one of an ID or an index of the target cell, a RACH resource (e.g., CFRA) , activated beam information (e.g., TCI state) , an indication to trigger early CSI report, an activated SR configuration, an activated CG configuration, or an early TA value. UE 404 may perform a cell switch procedure towards the indicated target cell in response to receiving the cell switch command.

[0153] In some embodiments, BS 402A may transmit a cell switch notification message to BS 402B (i.e., the target BS) to indicate the initiation of cell switch command to UE 404. BS 402A may inform the acquired TA related information.

[0154] In some embodiments, UE 404 may perform the random-access procedure towards the target cell or UE 404 may perform a RACH-less procedure. In some embodiments, BS 402B (i.e., the target BS) may transmit a handover success indication to BS 402A to inform that UE 404 has successfully accessed the target cell. In some embodiments, UE 404 may complete the cell switch procedure by transmitting an RRC configuration complete message to the target cell.

[0155] In some embodiments, BS 402B (i.e., the target BS or the new source BS) may transmit a configuration update message to the candidate BS (s) . This message may include the new security key (s) to be used with UE 404. The candidate BS (s) may respond to a configuration update acknowledge message to BS 402B. BS 402B may transmit a UE context release message to inform BS 402A (i.e., the old source BS) to release radio and C-plane related resources associated with the UE context if no L1 or L2 triggered mobility candidate cells exist in BS 402A. Any ongoing data forwarding may continue.

[0156] It should be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the sequence of the operations in exemplary procedure 400 may be changed and that some of the operations in exemplary procedure 400 may be eliminated or modified, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.

[0157] FIG. 5 illustrates a flowchart of method 500 for wireless communication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. Details described in all of the foregoing embodiments of the present disclosure are applicable for the embodiments shown in FIG. 5. In some examples, method 500 may be performed by a network node such as a BS or a RAN node. In some embodiments, the BS may execute a set of instructions to control the functional elements of the BS to perform the described functions or operations. In some examples, a processor of the BS may cause the BS to perform method 500.

[0158] At 511, a first BS may transmit, to a second BS, a request for configuration information of at least one candidate cell, wherein the request includes at least one of a source configuration or a reference configuration.

[0159] At 513, the first BS may receive, from the second BS, a response including a delta candidate configuration for the at least one candidate cell, wherein the delta candidate configuration is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration.

[0160] At 515, the first BS may transmit, to a UE, configuration information including a candidate configuration for the at least one candidate cell, wherein the configuration information indicates whether the candidate configuration is associated with the source configuration, associated with the reference configuration or is a complete configuration for the at least one candidate cell.

[0161] In some embodiments, the first BS may receive a capability related message from the UE, and the capability related message includes at least one of: an indication of whether the UE supports a conditional-based handover; an indication of whether the UE supports DCI command-based handover where the UE is triggered to apply stored candidate configuration for a candidate cell indicated by a DCI in response to a reception of the DCI; an indication of whether the UE supports a MAC command-based handover where the UE is triggered to apply stored candidate configuration for a candidate cell indicated by a MAC CE command in response to a reception of the MAC CE command; an indication of whether the UE supports an RRC command-based handover where the UE is triggered to apply stored candidate configuration for a candidate cell indicated by an RRC command in response to a reception of the RRC command; an indication of whether the UE supports a delta candidate configuration based on a reference configuration; or an indication of whether the UE supports a delta candidate configuration based on a source configuration.

[0162] In some embodiments, the request includes a first indication of whether the delta candidate configuration is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration. In some embodiments, the request includes both the source configuration and the reference configuration and the response includes a second indication of whether the delta candidate configuration is based on the source configuration or the reference configuration.

[0163] In some embodiments, the first BS may transmit, to the UE, an L1 or L3 cell switch command for triggering the UE to switch to a first candidate cell of the at least one candidate cell. In some embodiments, the cell switch command indicates at least one of an ID or an index of the first candidate cell, at least one of a RACH resource, activated beam information, an indication to trigger early CSI report, an activated SR configuration, an activated CG configuration, or an early TA value.

[0164] In some embodiments, the candidate configuration indicates whether the UE applies the candidate configuration in response to receiving the configuration information. In some embodiments, the candidate configuration does not include a cell switch execution condition, which indicates the UE to apply the candidate configuration in response to receiving the configuration information. In some embodiments, the candidate configuration does not include a cell switch execution condition and does not indicate a subsequent cell switch, which indicates the UE to apply the candidate configuration in response to receiving the configuration information.

[0165] In some embodiments, for a candidate cell of the at least one candidate cell, the candidate configuration for the candidate cell includes at least one of a subsequent cell switch indication, a RAT type, or a cell type.

[0166] In some embodiments, the reference configuration in the request is a first reference configuration common for all candidate BSs including the second BS. In some embodiments, the first BS may: coordinate with the second BS to obtain a second reference configuration for the second BS, or receive the second reference configuration from the second BS; and transmit the first reference configuration and the second reference configuration to the UE.

[0167] In some embodiments, the first BS may receive, from a CN, a third reference configuration common for BSs including the first BS within an area.

[0168] In some embodiments, the first BS may: determine a fourth reference configuration for the first BS; and transmit the fourth reference configuration to the UE. In some embodiments, the reference configuration in the request is the fourth reference configuration.

[0169] In some embodiments, the first BS may: request the second BS to provide a fifth reference configuration for the first BS; determine a sixth reference configuration for the first BS based on the fifth reference configuration; and transmit the sixth reference configuration to the UE. In some embodiments, the reference configuration in the request is the sixth reference configuration.

[0170] In some embodiments, the first BS may receive, from the second BS, a seventh reference configuration for the second BS.
