Abstract
Description
[0001] DESCRIPTION
[0002] A HOB HAVING A SHEET METAL HOUSING
[0003] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0004] The invention relates to a hob having a sheet metal housing, in particular a hob having a housing made from bent sheet metal.
[0005] PRIOR ART
[0006] In the field of cooking appliances, the design and manufacture of kitchen equipment having a hob or a cooking surface occupies an important place. These appliances can use different solutions such as gas, electricity or induction as a heat source. In general, a top plate comprises the cooking surface of the appliance and the burners (cooking zones) that can be positioned thereon. This top plate is the part of the appliance that is visible from the outside and where user interaction is most intensive. In order for the users to be able to comfortably cook and to access the control elements, the upper sheet metal design is made by taking ergonomics and durability into consideration. In a cooking appliance, a base and four or more side walls form a housing that generally supports the top plate from below and delimits an inner chamber in which inner components are placed. The side walls provide the structural integrity of the appliance by establishing a connection between the top plate and the base. The material thickness of the side walls and the bottom wall, and their shaping by bending and deep drawing operations, are important in terms of durability. Furthermore, additional elements such as a control surface, knobs or electronic components can be positioned in specific areas within the design. As a result, both the material selection and the manufacturing method directly affect critical factors such as the durability, heat distribution, and ease of assembly of the cooking appliance.
[0007] Generally, the housing is manufactured from a metal sheet. By raising the edges of the metal sheet upward, a glass or glass-ceramic top plate is placed on the upper edge of the lateral walls. WO2023140798 discloses a hob comprising a thin and flat base support sheet having a lateral wall raised so as to delimit a housing; a transversely extending bridge extension rising on the base support sheet; and a bridge-shaped rigid reinforcement element provided with respectively a first and a second leg provided at opposite ends of the bridge extension so as to be fastened directly to the housing from the inner side thereof.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0008] The object of the invention is to obtain a hob having a housing made from flat metal sheet that is able to maintain its structural integrity without requiring an additional reinforcement element. In order to achieve the aforementioned object, the invention relates to a hob comprising: a sheet metal housing in the form of a tray having a base and peripheral walls rising perpendicularly from an outer periphery thereof; a top plate arranged on the upper edge of the housing so as to delimit an inner chamber therebelow. The hob is wherein a first lateral wall and a second lateral wall perpendicular and adjacently contiguous thereto comprise respectively a first and a second tab arranged so as to be positioned crosswise to each other on the same axis, and a respective lateral recess corresponding to each tab against which the respective tab bears. Each tab is seated in the lateral recess on the opposite edge and thereby forms a joint line that ensures that the housing maintains its form. Preferably, this structure is applied to each corner where the peripheral walls of the housing meet. In this way, at least partial interlocking of the tabs and the lateral walls at the corners is provided and the gaps forming at the edge joints are reduced. Preferably, the flange allowance of the first tab and / or the second tab from the adjacent lateral recess is set equal to the sheet metal thickness. In this way, the tray form can be obtained without any protrusion to the outside at the corner portions of the housing. Furthermore, since the tab bears against the face along the thickness of the corresponding edge, the pressure that would be generated by any external force is reduced and the tab maintains its initial form without bending during deflections. Preferably, the total height of the first tab and the second tab is equal to the height of the corresponding first or second lateral wall. In this way, the crosswise tabs hold the housing form together so as to provide maximum strength without distorting the lateral edge form. Preferably, the mutually perpendicular and contiguous corners of the first tab and the second tab are rounded. The rounded corners reduce the contact area and prevent the tabs from being deformed by applying force to each other in the event of deflection of the tray form. Preferably, the outer extensions of the tabs are in the form of mutually perpendicular elbow-like shapes extending outward with the first tab facing downward and the second tab facing upward. In this way, a crosswise and high-strength interlocking structure has been obtained. Preferably, the first and second tabs are arranged so as to fully bear with a pre-stress along the sheet metal thickness of the corresponding lateral recess along the inner wall thereof. In this way, locking of the contiguous lateral walls of the tray by supporting each other under pre-stress has been provided. In this case, the lateral walls can maintain their predetermined perpendicular positions in the event of any deflection in the metal sheet housing. Preferably, the first and second lateral walls comprise a perpendicular or a partially wide-angle bend so as to form a corner along respectivemutually perpendicularly extending bend lines delimiting the base in the fixed metal sheet housing so as to provide the pre-stress. In this way, the lateral walls can be obtained simply by bending the metal sheet, for instance by a die operation, and the structural strength of the housing is high. Preferably, the joint line formed along the mutually facing edge of the first lateral wall and the second lateral wall is in a zigzag form. The zigzag form ensures the maintenance of the structural integrity of the housing despite forces acting on the housing from different directions. Preferably, the heights of the upper edge of the first lateral wall and the second lateral wall are set equal in a plane carrying the top plate. In this way, the assembly of the hob is possible by, for example, placing a flat glass top plate on the lateral walls. Preferably, the first tab and the second tab are arranged so as to form the lower half and the upper half, respectively, of the seated lateral edges mutually facing each other. In this way, the tabs can be obtained by a simple cutting operation and the perpendicular position of the lateral walls is maintained in the event of deflections that may occur after bending.

[0013] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0014] In this detailed description, the development according to the invention has been described with references to examples only for the purpose of better explaining the subject matter, without any limitation.
[0015] In Figure 1, a built-in hob is shown in a top perspective view. On a flat glass-ceramic top plate (1), there are zones each defining cooking zones and being heated by a respective heating element (not shown). The top plate (1) is mounted on the upper edges of a housing (10) made from an integral metal sheet in the form of a tray. The housing (10) has a first lateral wall (12) and a second lateral wall (14) that are mutually perpendicular and in a striplike configuration. Here, the first lateral wall (12) corresponds to a side portion of the hob and the second lateral wall (14) corresponds to a front portion of the hob. In the enlarged representation in the right-hand direction, the mutually adjacent and contiguous corner of thefirst lateral wall (12) and the second lateral wall (14) is shown. It comprises a joint line (2) having a zigzag configuration at the center of the corner. In Figure 2, the metal sheet housing (10) is shown in perspective in a flat and level state, i.e. not yet having assumed the tray form, that is, with the peripheral walls not yet bent. Each corner of the flat and level metal sheet has been cut in mirror symmetry to obtain wings. Each wing is bent perpendicularly to obtain the peripheral walls formed by the first lateral wall (12), the second lateral wall (14), the third lateral wall (16) and the fourth lateral wall (18). In the peripheral walls, the first lateral wall (12) and the third lateral wall (16) together, and the second lateral wall (14) and the fourth lateral wall (18) likewise together, each form a pair of equal size and shape. The first lateral wall (12) and the third lateral wall (16) have a T-like form due to the cut at their corners. On the other hand, the second lateral wall (14) and the fourth lateral wall (18) have an inverted T-like configuration. Here, only the first lateral wall (12) and the second lateral wall (14) have been described by way of example. However, as mentioned above, the other lateral walls (16, 18) have a similar configuration to these and their details have not been described herein in order to avoid repetition. The lateral edge of the first lateral wall (12) facing the second lateral wall (14) is cut so as to obtain a lateral recess (124) at the upper portion thereof and a first tab (126) at the lower half thereof. In this way, the half remaining above the first tab (126) forms the lateral recess (124). The lateral recess (124) meets the flat upper edge (122) of the first lateral wall (12) at a right angle. A short slit has been opened from the corner inward to form the lower edge of the first tab (126). The edge of the second lateral wall (14), which is adjacent thereto, is cut so as to obtain a second tab (146) at the upper half thereof. In this way, the half remaining below the second tab (146) forms the lateral recess (144). The upper portion of the lateral recess (124) of the first lateral wall (12) meets the flat upper edge (142) extending perpendicularly. The flange allowance (L) of the first and second tabs (126, 146) is equal to the sheet metal thickness (h) of the housing (10). The first lateral wall (12) is bent perpendicularly upward along a bend line (121) at the boundary of the base (11) that is spaced apart from and parallel to the upper edge (122) of the first lateral wall (12) by an amount corresponding to the edge height. This operation is applied on the second lateral wall (14) as a perpendicular bend along a bend line (141) that also borders the base (11) and is parallel to and spaced apart from the upper edge (142). All peripheral edges (12, 14, 16, 18) are bent perpendicularly and upward with respect to the base (11). With the bending, the upright edges formed by the mutually facing lateral edges in the housing (10) form the joint line (2). In Figure 3, in the state in which the tray form of the housing (10) is provided, the mutually facing corner of the first lateral wall (12) and the second lateral wall (14) is shown, representing one of the corners formed by the mutually facing edges of the peripheral walls (12, 14, 16, 18). In the housing (10), all corners have a similar form. The respective upper edges (122, 124) of the first lateral wall (12) and the second lateral wall (14) are aligned inthe same plane. At the edge of the first lateral wall (12) that is perpendicular to the upper edge (122) thereof, the lateral recess (124) bears, along the face surface thereof, against the facing surface of the second tab (146) of the second lateral wall (14). Crosswise thereto, the portion of the first tab (126) extending in the lower half of the first lateral wall (12) that faces the lateral recess (144) of the second lateral wall (14) also fully bears against the lateral recess (144) from the inner surface thereof. Here, since the flange allowances (L) of the first and second tabs (126, 146) are set equal to the sheet metal thickness (h), each tab (126, 146) does not form an extension beyond the width of the corresponding lateral recess (144, 124) in which it is seated. That is, the face portion (125) of the first tab (126) of the first lateral wall (12) is in the same plane as the outer surface of the second lateral wall (14). Similarly, the face portion (145) of the second tab (146) of the second lateral wall (14) is in the same plane as the outer surface of the first lateral wall (12). Thus, a dimensionally highly stable lock resistant to deflections is obtained. The joint line (2) formed along the mutually facing lateral edges of the first lateral wall (12) and the second lateral wall (14) forms a zigzag shape advancing perpendicularly in two axes along the corner on the mutually facing surfaces of the first tab (126) and the second tab (146). On the other hand, both the outer corner of the portion of the first tab (126) facing the lateral recess (124) and the outer corner of the portion of the second tab (146) adjacent thereto that faces its own lateral recess (144) have each been rounded by being provided with a radius. Thus, the contact surfaces of the first and second tabs (126, 146) with each other in the event of deflection have been rendered linear and the gap between them in the event of deflection has been minimized.
