[0001] HAIR SERUM COMPOSITIONS, USE OF A HAIR SERUM COMPOSITION, AND METHOD FOR TREATING HAIR FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention is directed to hair serum compositions, comprising: (a) at least one non-ionic and / or cationic polysaccharide; (b) at least one cationic polymer other than the cationic polysaccharide; (c) polysilicone-29; (d) at least one fatty ester; (e) at least one non-ionic surfactant; and (f) at least one cationic surfactant. The invention is also related to the use of the hair serum composition and to a method for treating hair.
[0003] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0004] In the field of the cosmetic treatment of keratin fibers, in particular human keratin fibers, and more particularly hair, consumers desire hair care treatments that can impart moisture and reconstruct the damaged hair, which can improve the appearance of frizzy hair.
[0005] The quality and condition of the hair are generally adversely affected by several factors, like the action of external agents such as sunlight, wind, pollution, humidity, and chemicals in swimming pools, and also by mechanical or chemical treatments, such as brushing, combing, shampooing, dyeing, bleaching, permanentwaving and / or relaxing. Thus, hair is damaged by these various factors and may over time become dry, coarse, or dull, especially in fragile areas, and more particularly at the ends leading to split ends. Under such circumstances, the hair can also become less manageable, more frizzy and less disciplined, and more difficult to style or shape.
[0006] It is sought to treat and reconstruct keratin fibers that have been sensitized and / or damaged, in particular the treatment of keratinous hair fibers, which have an opaque, dull, brittle, lifeless, and / or weak appearance, as well as dry and split ends.
[0007] Many attempts to develop products to discipline, define and control the hair, without leaving the hair feeling and / or looking unnatural have been made in the art, but such products often resulted in stability problems and / or hair maintenance difficulty.
[0008] For example, the products of the state of the art usually require high amount of product to give good combing and hair feel. But, considering that the effect of such products is not long-lasting, consumers had to reapply these products several times during the day and / or after sleeping to regain frizz control, resulting in productbuild-up on the hair’s surface and a heavy aspect, unnatural touch and greasy sensation.
[0009] In this sense, there is a need in the market for hair products that not only deliver instant results but also provide long-lasting benefits, leaving hair noticeably healthier, shinier, and smoother to the touch.
[0010] It is known, furthermore, to supply heat during hair treatments to activate the treatments’ processes. Although these technologies may in effect allow improvement in cosmetic performance, consumers should take care to avoid damaging the hair from the heat.
[0011] Thus, there exists a need to develop a heat-activated leave-in technology, particularly in the galenic form of serum, that restores the hydrophobicity of the hair, provides an elegant, soft, long-lasting appearance with volume control and straightening benefits (hair alignment), reduces frizz, and imparts a protective filmforming coating desired by consumers, in particular those with straight and straightened hair.
[0012] The inventors of the present invention have overcome the drawbacks of the state of the art and surprisingly and unexpectedly achieved a hair serum composition comprising: (a) at least one non-ionic and / or cationic polysaccharide; (b) at least one cationic polymer other than the cationic polysaccharide; (c) polysilicone-29; (d) at least one fatty ester; (e) at least one non-ionic surfactant; and (f) at least one cationic surfactant.
[0013] Although hair care products that attempt to address these problems already exist in the market, the hair care composition of the present invention makes it possible to obtain improved results in the hair, such as better manageability, elegant appearance, discipline and volume control, detangling, softness and clean feel, filmforming, repair and texture satisfaction, frizz control or less frizziness, and less hair breakage. Also, the hair serum composition of the present invention is stable overtime.
[0014] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0015] The present invention is directed to hair serum compositions, comprising (a) at least one non-ionic and / or cationic polysaccharide; (b) at least one cationic polymer other than the cationic polysaccharide; (c) polysilicone-29; (d) at least one fatty ester; (e) at least one non-ionic surfactant; and (f) at least one cationic surfactant, which surprisingly provides improved results such as better manageability, elegant appearance, discipline and volume control, detangling, softness and clean feel, film-forming, repair and texture satisfaction, frizz control or less frizziness, and less hair breakage. The present invention is also related to the use of the hair serum composition.

[0148] EXAMPLES
[0149] Example 1 - Compositions
[0150] A non-limiting example of the hair serum composition according to the present invention is Example 1 as shown in Table 1 below.
[0151] TABLE 1
[0152]
[0153]
[0154] Examples of comparative compositions are C1 to C9 as shown in Table below.
[0155] TABLE 2
[0156]
[0157]
[0158]
[0159] Example 2 - Accelerated Stability Evaluation
[0160] An accelerated stability evaluation was performed in order to demonstrate the stability of the hair serum composition of Example 1 and comparative compositions C1 to C9. The stability evaluation aims to identify how the quality of a product varies over time and under the influence of external factors such as temperature.
[0161] The composition of Example 1 and the comparative compositions C1 to C9 were submitted to a temperature of 55°C for 7 days. After said 7 days, the stability of the compositions was visually evaluated.
[0162] The results of the stability evaluation are shown in Figures 1A and 1B. Figure 1A shows compositions Ex.1 and C1 to C9 before the evaluation and Figure 1B shows compositions Ex.1 and C1 to C9 after 7 days of evaluation.
[0163] An observation of the formulas in Figure 1B shows that the hair serum composition of Example 1 has a clean appearance and no phase separation under the influence of a temperature of 55 °C for 7 days.In contrast, comparative composition C1 has liquidized and comparative compositions C3, C5 and C6 exhibited phase separation under the influence of a temperature of 55 °C for 7 days. Also, comparative compositions C3 to C7 and C9 exhibited a cloudy appearance even at ambient temperature.
[0164] These results demonstrate the stability of the hair serum compositions according to the present invention.
[0165] Example 3 - Comparative Tests
[0166] The comparative formulas, C2, C4, C7, C8 and C9 were compared with the inventive formula of Example 1 to evaluate the performance of each on the hair.
[0167] For each test it was used natural hair swatch type III cleansed with a standard shampoo (approximately 0.4 g shampoo / g hair). After rinsing the shampoo from the swatches, the swatches were treated with one of the formulas cited above.
[0168] After thoroughly massaging the evaluated composition (approximately 0.15 g composition / g hair) into the hair swatch, three trained experts evaluated each swatch for wet properties. The hair swatches were then blow dried with a blow drier and flat ironed, and then the dry sensorial properties were evaluated by three trained experts.
[0169] The evaluation was made in a scale of similarity: ++ very high, + high, -low, -- very low. The results of this study are found in Table 3 below:
[0170] TABLE 3
[0171]
[0172] This example shows that, for wet hair, the hair serum composition according to the present invention has superior transformation, distribution, coverage, and smooth touch relative to the comparative formulas. By “Transformation”, it is meant the sensation of “melting hair”, i.e. , when it is possible to feel the hair becoming softer in your hands. The hair serum composition according to the present invention displays these superior attributes on wet hair while also providing excellent discipline, frizz, softness, and detangling on dry hair.
[0173] Example 4 - Sensorial Panel: Comparison with Commercial Benchmark In order to evaluate the sensorial of the inventive formula of Example 1 versus a commercial bench market C10, a sensorial panel study with 13 trained panelists was conducted.
[0174] For this evaluation each of the panelists applied a neutral shampoo and conditioner in their natural hair swatches type III. Subsequently, each panelist applied the inventive formula of Example 1 (0.15 g formula per 1 / g hair) onto their wet hair, followed by blow drying and flat ironing the hair.
[0175] Afterwards, the panelists followed the same application protocol using the commercial benchmark product, namely comparative composition C10, having the following listing of ingredients on the package: aqua / water, dipropylene glycol, polysilicone-29, silicone Quaternium-18, glycerin, Trideceth-6, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) flower extract, Calendula Officinalis flower extract, potassium sorbate, phenoxyethanol, Trideceth-12, sodium benzoate, chlorphenesin, potassium benzoate, disodium EDTA, and citric acid.
[0176] After this application protocol, each of the panelists evaluated 35 common attributes about their hair, and the resulting data was statistically treated. For each of these 35 common attributes, each panelist evaluated their hair using a score of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).
[0177] The results for each of the 35 common attributes were averaged by the panelists, and those results are shown in Figure 2.
[0178] The panelists’ evaluation showed that the hair serum composition according to the present invention is statistically superior to comparative composition C10 in several properties, including smoothness, detangling, suppleness and less wet effect on dry hair, while also has a more transformative technology relative to the comparative composition C10.
