Abstract

Methods and devices in a wireless communication network configure a channel state information (CSI) acquisition procedure for a random access channel-less (RACH-less) lower-layer trigger mobility (LTM) procedure and a different CSI acquisition procedure for a RACH-based LTM procedure. A network entity (NE) transmits (720) to a user equipment (UE) an LTM configuration for configuring a CSI report, and transmits (731) an LTM cell switch command (CSC) for switching from a serving cell to a target cell. The NE receives (780) the CSI report from the UE, based on a first timing scheme when the LTM CSC is associated with the RACH-less LTM procedure, and based on a second timing scheme when the LTM CSC is associated with the RACH-based LTM procedure.

Description

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION ACQUISITION FOR LOWER-LAYER TRIGGERED MOBILITY IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMFIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0001] This document generally describes methods and apparatuses performing channel state information (CSI) acquisition for lower-layer triggered mobility (LTM) in wireless communication systems such as (but not limited to) the ones described in 5G standard documents, known as 3GPP communication systems.BACKGROUND

[0002] This background description is provided for the purpose of generally presenting the context of the disclosure. Work of the presently named inventors, to the extent it is described in this background section, as well as aspects of the description that may not otherwise qualify as prior art at the time of filing, are neither expressly nor impliedly admitted as prior art against the present disclosure.

[0003] An LTM procedure has been specified for mobility enhancement. The LTM procedure, which is based on triggers from the lower layers (e.g., layer 1 (L1) and / or layer 2 (L2) ) , is intended for reducing latency when performing cell switching. According to the traditional approach, cell switching may require many higher-layer (e.g., layer 3) message exchanges and reconfigurations, which results in longer latency. An LTM procedure can help resolve this latency issue. Before cell switching, a network entity (NE) may configure one or more candidate cell configuration (s) for a user equipment (UE) and may share these configurations with the UE. After the cell switching is decided, the NE may transmit an LTM cell switch command (CSC) to the UE, and the UE determines which candidate cell configuration to apply and which cell to switch to (i.e., UE moves from a source cell to a target or candidate cell) .

[0004] Before the UE moves to the target cell via an LTM cell switch procedure (simply called an “LTM procedure” in this document) , the NE may provide a beam indication (i.e., LTM transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state) to the UE, which can be used for communication with the target cell. In one approach, one or more LTM TCI states may be activated prior to the LTM CSC via an LTM TCI state (de) activation medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) , and the LTM CSC indicates to the UE to use one of these activated LTM TCI states. Alternatively, an LTM TCI state can be directly transmitted to the UE via the LTM CSC, without prior activation before the LTM CSC is transmitted.

[0005] Depending on whether a valid timing advance (TA) value is obtained before reception of the LTM CSC, the UE may perform a random access channel-less (RACH-less) LTM procedure or random access channel-based (RACH-based) LTM procedure. If a valid TA value is obtained before receiving the LTM CSC, the UE may perform the RACH-less LTM procedure. Otherwise, the UE may perform the RACH-based LTM procedure, where a collision-free random access (CFRA) or collision-based random access (CBRA) procedure should be performed to complete the LTM switch. The RACH-less LTM procedure is expected to achieve a faster cell switch than the RACH-based LTM procedure.

[0006] An LTM enhancement is related to supporting early CSI acquisition for an LTM switch. For the traditional approach, after the LTM switch is completed, the NE is not aware of the channel condition between the UE and the NE until the first CSI report is received from the UE. Therefore, the NE can only schedule a conventional modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for scheduling data traffic between the NE and UE. This limitation of using a conventional MCS results in data throughput degradation (also known as down-gradation) every time an LTM switch is completed. Due to this condition, the UE may be configured to measure at least a CSI-resource signal (CSI-RS) of the target cell and perform a CSI report earlier, e.g., after reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE. According to this approach, the UE may transmit, to the NE, the first CSI report before or around a time the LTM switch procedure is completed.

[0007] Then, for this approach, an unsolved issue is the timing relationship between the CSI-RS measurement and the transmission of the CSI report. If an aperiodic (AP) or semi-persistent (SP) CSI report is considered for a target cell, a timing relationship related to receiving a report initiating signal at the UE is to be clarified. For an AP CSI report, the report initiating signal may be an AP CSI triggering signal. On the other hand, for the SP CSI report, the report initiating signal may be an activation signal. Currently, it has been agreed that the CSI report is performed after reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE. However, the CSI-RS measurement may be performed after reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE (as baseline) , or before reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE (per UE capability) .

[0008] There are multiple time intervals after the reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE, which are associated with various UE behaviors, acts, or procedures. For example, a time interval may be associated with reporting the acknowledgment (ACK) of the LTM CSC MAC CE, another time interval may be associated with processing the radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration of an LTM candidate cell, and yet another time interval may be associated with tracking an RS of a target cell or waiting for an available physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) occasion. Which exact time interval (s) can accommodate or allow CSI-RS measurement, transmission of the CSI report, or receiving a report initiating signal and which is the timing relationship between these time intervals have not been defined by the 3GPP.SUMMARY

[0009] According to an embodiment, the NE and UE may configure a CSI acquisition procedure for a random access channel (RACH) -less LTM and a different CSI acquisition procedure for a RACH-based LTM. For the RACH-less LTM procedure, two modes are considered. A first mode is defined where the UE performs a CSI-reference signal (CSI-RS) measurement and a CSI reporting after a reception of an LTM cell switching command (CSC) from the NE. A second mode is defined where the UE performs the CSI-RS measurement before receiving the LTM CSC and performs the CSI reporting after the reception of the LTM CSC. Additionally, multiple time intervals are defined, and a time relationship between receiving a report initiating signal, a measuring of the CSI-RS, and a reporting of a CSI report is introduced based on the multiple time intervals.

[0010] According to another embodiment, for the RACH-based LTM procedure, the above noted two modes are also used. However, different multiple time intervals are defined, depending on a timing of a random access (RA) procedure performed during the RACH-based LTM procedure. A time relationship between receiving a report initiating signal, a measuring of the CSI-RS, and a reporting of a CSI report is introduced based on the different multiple time intervals.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0022] Prior to discussing various aspects of the methods noted above, one possible wireless communication system that supports these methods is discussed with regard to FIG. 1. The wireless communication system 100 includes a UE 102, a first base station (BS) 104 (also called an NE) , a second BS 106, and a core network (CN) 110. The UE 102 initially connects to the first BS 104. In various configurations of the wireless communication system 100, the first BS 104 may be implemented as an evolved Node B (eNB) or a next-generation Node B (gNB) , and the second BS 106 may be implemented as a secondary gNB. The UE 102 may communicate with the first BS 104 and the second BS 106 via the same RAT or different RATs. In some embodiments, an eNB or a gNB is implemented as an ng-eNB.

[0023] The CN 110 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) 111 or a fifth-generation core (5GC) 160, both of which are depicted in FIG. 1. The first BS 104 may be an eNB supporting an S1 interface for communicating with the EPC 111, an ng-eNB supporting an NG interface for communicating with the 5GC 160, or a gNB that supports an NR radio interface as well as an NG interface for communicating with the 5GC 160. To directly exchange messages with each other during the embodiments discussed below, the BSs 104 and 106 may support an X2 or Xn interface. Among other components, the EPC 111 may include a Serving Gateway (SGW) 112, a Mobility Management Entity (MME) 114, and a Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) 116. The SGW 112 transfers user-plane packets related to audio calls, video calls, Internet traffic, etc. The MME 114 manages authentication, registration, paging, and other related functions. The PGW 116 provides connectivity from the UE to one or more external packet data networks, e.g., an Internet network and / or an Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. The 5GC 160 includes a User Plane Function (UPF) 162 and an Access and Mobility Management (AMF) 164, and / or a Session Management Function (SMF) 166. The UPF 162 transfers user-plane packets related to audio calls, video calls, Internet traffic, etc. The AMF 164 manages authentication, registration, paging, and other related functions, and the SMF 166 manages protocol data unit (PDU) sessions.

[0024] As also illustrated in FIG. 1, the first BS 104 supports cells 124A to 124C, and the second BS 106 supports cells 126A and 126B. Cells 124A and 126A may partially overlap, so that the UE 102 may communicate in dual communication (DC) with the first BS 104 and the second BS 106, where one of the BSs 104 and 106 is a master node (MN) and the other is a secondary node (SN) . The first BS 104 may support additional cell (s) , and the second BS 106 may support additional cell (s) . The cells 124A, 124B, and 124C may partially overlap, so that the UE 102 may communicate in carrier aggregation (CA) with the first BS 104. The first BS 104 may operate the cells 124A, 124B, and 124C via one or more transmit and receive points (TRPs) . The same is true for the second BS 106 and its cells.

[0025] The wireless communication network 100 may include any suitable number of BSs supporting NR cells and / or EUTRA cells. More particularly, the EPC 111 or the 5GC 160 may be connected to any suitable number of BSs supporting NR cells and / or EUTRA cells. Although the examples below refer specifically to specific CN types (EPC, 5GC) and RAT types (5G NR and EUTRA) , the techniques of this disclosure also may apply to other suitable radio access and / or core network technologies such as sixth generation (6G) radio access and / or 6G core network or 5G NR-6G DC.

[0026] Still with regard to FIG. 1, the first BS 104 is equipped with processing hardware 130 that may include one or more general-purpose processors (e.g., CPUs) 132 and a non-transitory computer-readable memory (CRM) 133 storing instructions that the one or more general-purpose processors execute. Additionally, or alternatively, the processing hardware 130 may include special-purpose processing units. The processing hardware 130 may include a PHY controller 134 configured to transmit data and control signal on physical downlink (DL) channels and DL reference signals with one or more user devices (e.g., the UE 102) via one or more cells (e.g., the cell (s) 124A, 124B, and / or 124C) and / or one or more TRPs. The PHY controller 134 is also configured to receive data and control signal on physical UL channels and / or UL reference signals with the one or more user devices via one or more cells (e.g., the cell (s) 124A, 124B, and / or 124C) and / or one or more TRPs. The processing hardware 130, in an example embodiment, includes a medium access control (MAC) controller 136 configured to perform MAC functions with one or more user devices. The MAC functions include a random access (RA) procedure, managing UL timing advance for the one or more user devices, and / or communicating UL / DL MAC PDUs with the one or more user devices. The MAC fu nctions include LTM related functions as described below. The processing hardware 130 may further include an RRC controller (not shown) to support procedures and messaging at the RRC sublayer of the protocol communication stack. For example, the RRC controller may be configured to support RRC messaging associated with LTM configuration procedures, handover procedures, and / or to support the necessary operations when the first BS 104 operates as an MN relative to an SN or as an SN relative to an MN. The first BS 104 further i ncludes a transceiver 138 for communicating with the UE 102. The second BS 106 may include processing hardware 140 that is similar to processing hardware 130. In particular, components 142, 143, 144, 146, and 148 may be similar to the components 132, 133, 134, 136, and 138, respectively.

[0027] The UE 102 is equipped with processing hardware 150 that may include one or more general-purpose processors 152 such as CPUs and non-transitory computer-readable memory 153 storing machine-readable instructions executable on the one or more general-purpose processors, and / or special-purpose processing units. The PHY controller 154 is also configured to receive data and control signal on physical DL channels and / or DL reference signals with the BSs 104 or 106 via one or more cells (e.g., the cell (s) 124A, 124B, 124C, 126A, and / or 126B) and / or one or more TRPs. The PHY controller 154 is also configured to transmit data and control signals on physical UL channels and / or UL reference signals with the BSs 104 or 106 via one or more cells (e.g., the cell (s) 124A, 124B, 124C, 126A, and / or 126B) and / or one or more TRPs. The processing hardware 150 in an example embodiment includes a MAC controller 156 configured to perform MAC functions with BS 104 or 106. For example, the MAC functions include a random access (RA) procedure, managing UL timing advance for the one or more user devices, and communicating UL / DL MAC PDUs with the BSs 104 or 106. In another example, the MAC functions include LTM related functions as described below. The processing hardware 150 may further include an RRC controller (not shown) to support LTM configuration procedures, handover procedures, DC operation and messaging at the RRC sublayer of the protocol communication stack. The UE further includes a transceiver 158 for communicating with the BSs 104 and / or 106.

[0028] The following embodiments address the timing of an LTM CSI acquisition associated with an LTM cell switch procedure. The LTM CSI acquisition may be performed for RACH-less LTM procedure or RACH-based LTM procedure. For the RACH-less LTM procedure, the LTM CSC MAC CE indicates a valid TA value and the UE 102 does not need to perform a RA procedure before the LTM cell switch is completed. For the RACH-based LTM procedure, the LTM CSC MAC CE indicates an invalid TA value, and thus, the UE needs to perform the RA procedure before the completion of the LTM cell switch procedure. The LTM cell switch procedure is completed when the UE 102 sends to the NE 104, 106 a PUSCH (dynamic grant (DG) or configured grant (CG) ) including a message that the RRC reconfiguration is complete and determines that the message is successfully received by the NE.

[0029] For a better understanding of the embodiments, a brief description of the LTM procedure is provided. In some embodiments, the NE may configure the UE with an LTM configuration. In some embodiments, the NE may configure the UE with one or more LTM candidate cell configuration (s) . In some scenarios, the UE may perform an LTM related procedure (s) based on the LTM configuration and the one or more LTM candidate cell configuration (s) . In some scenarios, the LTM configuration may include the one or more LTM candidate cell configuration (s) . In some scenarios, the LTM configuration may be an LTM-Config. Note that terms that are italicized in this document refer to a procedure protocol, or parameter in 3GPP specifications. In some scenarios, the LTM candidate cell configuration may be an LTM-Candidate.

[0030] As noted above, the LTM cell switch procedure uses or involves an LTM CSC. In some embodiments, the NE may transmit to the UE an LTM CSC to trigger or initiate the LTM procedure. In one example, the NE may transmit the LTM CSC via a MAC-CE or physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) . In some embodiments, the UE may receive a downlink control information (DCI) from the NE. The DCI may schedule a PDSCH carrying the LTM CSC. It is noted that an LTM CSC may also be referred to as an LTM CSC MAC CE.

[0031] In some embodiments, the LTM CSC could indicate a target cell or LTM candidate cell. In some embodiments, the LTM CSC may include an LTM candidate cell configuration identity (ID) . It is noted that throughout this document, a target cell may be or stand for a candidate cell indicated by an LTM CSC. In response to receiving the LTM CSC or after the action time of the LTM CSC, the UE may perform the LTM procedure based on the LTM CSC. The UE may determine a target cell and / or its corresponding configuration based on the candidate cell configuration ID indicated in the LTM CSC. Upon completing the LTM procedure, the target cell indicated by the LTM CSC may become a new serving cell or a primary cell (PCell) or a secondary primary or special cell (SpCell) . Upon completing the LTM procedure, the UE moves from the source cell to the target cell. It is noted that throughout this document, the source cell may be or stand for the (original or previous) serving cell before receiving the LTM CSC or completing the LTM procedure.

[0032] In some embodiments, the LTM CSC may include or carry at least one of the following information or field (s) : ● information to identify target cell (s) , for example, an index of a candidate target  configuration to apply for an LTM cell switch procedure, ● TA related information; in some embodiments, the TA related information may also  indicate whether there is a valid TA for the LTM target cell, ● beam indication or TCI state for target cell; for example, one joint or one pair of  uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) unified TCI state (index) , ● CFRA resources related information, ● whether a Msg1 repetition is applied to the CFRA triggered by the LTM CSC (if any)  and / or the number of Msg1 repetitions, ● active DL / UL bandwidth part (s) (BWP (s) ) for a target cell or a candidate cell, ● an instruction to trigger an aperiodic tracking reference signal (TRS) transmitted  from a target cell, where the aperiodic TRS may be quasi-co-located (QCLed) with the downlink reference signal configured in the beam indication signaling for the target cell, if a beam indication signaling for the target cell exists in the first CSC, ● an instruction to trigger a CSI acquisition of a target cell and a corresponding report  for the target cell, ● an instruction to trigger an aperiodic CSI-RS resource for pathloss measurement for  uplink power control, where the aperiodic CSI-RS resource may be QCLed with the downlink reference signal configured in the beam indication signaling for the target cell, if a beam indication signaling for the target cell exists in the first CSC, ● an instruction to trigger an aperiodic sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission  to the target cell, and / or ● a cell-radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) .

[0033] In some embodiments, the NE may configure whether at least one of the above information or fields is present in the LTM CSC. In some scenarios, the NE may provide the configuration by RRC signaling.

[0034] The embodiments to be discussed in this document are related to RACH-less LTM and RACH-based LTM procedures. A brief description of these two procedures is provided. In some embodiments, the UE may perform an LTM procedure if the UE receives an LTM CSC from the NE. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a RACH-less LTM procedure. In some other cases, the UE may perform a RACH-less LTM procedure if the LTM CSC indicates a valid TA value for the target cell. In some scenarios, if the UE performs a RACH-less LTM procedure, the UE does not need to perform a CFRA or CBRA to complete the LTM procedure. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a RACH-based LTM procedure. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a RACH-based LTM procedure if the LTM CSC does not indicate a valid TA value for the target cell. In some scenarios, if the UE performs a RACH-based LTM procedure, the UE may need to perform a CFRA or CBRA to complete the LTM procedure.

[0035] In some embodiments, if the NE does not indicate a valid TA value for the target cell via the LTM CSC or if the NE triggers / indicates a RACH-based LTM, the NE may indicate a special synchronization signal block (SSB) transmission information. In one example, the NE may indicate the special synchronization signal block (SSB) transmission information by the LTM CSC. In some scenarios, the special SSB transmission information may indicate an aperiodic or one-shot SSB transmission. In some scenarios, the special SSB transmission information may be applied (only) for time interval (s) before the LTM procedure is completed or before a transmission of a PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration completion message.

[0036] The embodiments discussed in this document are also related to an LTM CSI acquisition procedure. A brief description of the LTM CSI acquisition procedure (also called an “LTM CSI acquisition” ) is provided. In some embodiments, the NE may configure or indicate to the UE to perform an LTM CSI acquisition. In some scenarios, the UE may transmit a UE capability report to the NE to indicate whether the UE supports the LTM CSI acquisition. If the UE supports or performs the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform at least one of the following: ● measure one or multiple CSI-RS resources for or from at least one LTM candidate  cell, ○ in some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the measured CSI-RS  resource (s) is not for beam measurement. In some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the measured CSI-RS resource (s) is for CSI acquisition. In one example, the CSI-RS resource (s) for CSI acquisition may be the CSI-RS resource (s) configured in a CSI-RS resource set without repetition and trs-Info configured, ○ in some scenarios, the CSI-RS resource (s) are associated with a candidate  cell physical cell identifier (PCI) or PCI index pointing to a PCI of a candidate cell. In one example, the CSI-RS resource (s) are QCLed with an SSB based on a candidate cell PCI with at least one of the parameters: average delay, delay spread, Doppler shift, Doppler spread, spatial reception parameter, and average gain, ○ in some scenarios, the UE measures one CSI-RS based on the CSI-RS  resource (s) , where the CSI-RS resource (s) may be from different antenna ports, in S (e.g., S=1 or 2) consecutive slots, and / or QCLed with the same SSB; in some other cases, the UE measures one CSI-RS per CSI-RS resource, where the CSI-RS resource (s) may be QCLed with the same or different SSBs, ○ in some scenarios, the CSI-RS resource (s) are configured based on the  same configuration for at least one of the following: subcarrier space, subcarrier (s) , resource block (s) , bandwidth, frequency-domain density, number of antenna ports, time-domain behavior, etc., ● transmit a CSI report with measurement results for or from at least one LTM  candidate cell, ○ in some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the transmitted CSI report is  not for beam measurement. In some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the transmitted CSI-RS resource is for CSI acquisition. ○ In some scenarios, the CSI report may include one or multiple CSIs, where  one CSI includes at least one of the following: CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , rank indicator (RI) , precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) , and layer indicator (LI) , and the number of CSIs may be pre-defined, e.g., 1 CSI, or configured by the NE, ■ The reported CSI may be the CSI (s) measured from the CSI-RS  resource (s) for channel measurement or may be the predicted CSI for one or multiple slot (s) pre-defined or configured by the NE based on the CSI (s) measured from the CSI-RS resource (s) for channel measurement in the CSI measurement window predefined or configured by the NE, ○ In some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE transmits the CSI  report on the serving cell (or source cell) , or on the target cell (or LTM candidate cell) , ○ in some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE transmits the CSI  report after reception of an LTM CSC MAC CE, and / or ● receive a report initiating signal for a CSI report associated with at least one LTM  candidate cell, ○ in some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the received report initiating  signal is not to initiate a CSI report for beam measurement. In some scenarios, for the LTM CSI acquisition, the received report initiating signal is to initiate a CSI report for the CSI acquisition.

[0037] The LTM CSI acquisition may use a first scheme and / or a second scheme. According to the first scheme, the UE performs a CSI-RS measurement after a reception of the LTM CSC, and performs a CSI reporting after the reception of the LTM CSC. According to the second scheme, the UE performs the CSI-RS resource measurement before a reception of the LTM CSC, and performs the CSI reporting after a reception of the LTM CSC.

[0038] In some embodiments, the NE may configure the UE with configuration (s) for the first scheme and / or for the second scheme for the LTM CSI acquisition. In some embodiments, the UE may transmit a UE capability report to signal to the NE whether the UE supports a first scheme and / or a second scheme. In some embodiments, if the UE supports the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE needs to support the first scheme. In some embodiments, the report initiating signal may be different for the first scheme and the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0039] In some embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating or configuring both the first scheme and the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition for both RACH-less LTM and RACH-based LTM procedures. In one example, the NE may (only) configure or indicate both the first scheme and the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-less LTM. In one example, the NE may (only) configure or indicate the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-based LTM. In another example, the NE may (only) configure or indicate both the first scheme and the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-based LTM, and / or the NE may (only) configure or indicate the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-less LTM.

[0040] In some embodiments, the UE may not expect to receive an indication / configuration from the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, if the UE performs the RACH-based LTM procedure. In some embodiments, the UE may not expect to receive an indication / configuration from the NE to transmit the CSI report of CSI-RS resource (s) , where the CSI-RS resource (s) are measured before an LTM CSC MAC CE, if the LTM CSC MAC CE triggers a RACH-based LTM or the LTM CSC MAC CE does not indicate a valid TA value for the target cell. In some embodiments, the UE may not expect an LTM CSC MAC CE to trigger a RACH-based LTM or the LTM CSC MAC CE does not indicate a valid TA value for the target cell, if the UE receives an indication / configuration from the NE to transmit the CSI report of CSI-RS resource (s) , where the CSI-RS resource (s) are measured before an LTM CSC MAC CE.

● the fifth time interval (illustrated as T5 in FIG. 2) , ○ in some scenarios, the fifth time interval T5 may at least include or be  referred to as a timing of transmitting the first UL transmission 212, after the reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE, ○ the first UL transmission 212 may be an UL transmission carrying an RRC  reconfiguration complete message; and ● a sixth time interval (illustrated as T6 in FIG. 2) , ○ in some scenarios, the sixth time interval T6 may at least include a time  interval that is lower bounded by the first UL transmission 212 or a time interval being lower bounded by time E5, which is associated with a completion of the LTM procedure triggered by the LTM CSC MAC CE, and upper bounded by a time E6 of receiving a next LTM CSC MAC CE.

[0042] Various relationships are possible between a timing associated with the receiving the report initiating signal, a timing associated with the measuring of the CSI-RS, and a timing associated with the transmitting of the CSI report, when performing the RACH-less LTM procedure with the first scheme configured.

[0043] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme for LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform reception / measurement of the CSI-RS for channel measurement for the LTM during one of the first time interval T1, the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0044] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme for the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform reception / measurement of the CSI-RS for channel measurement for LTM during one or more of the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0045] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform CSI-RS measurement in the second time interval T2. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform CSI-RS resource measurement in the second time interval T2.

[0046] In some embodiments, the UE may apply or utilize a corresponding RRC configuration (s) of CSI-RS resource (s) in the source cell or the serving cell when the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs the CSI-RS measurement during the first time interval T1.

[0047] In some embodiments, the UE may apply or utilize the corresponding RRC configuration (s) of CSI-RS resource (s) in the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the UE performs CSI-RS measurement during one of the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0048] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform measurement on the CSI-RS resource (s) with a time domain behavior defined as periodic (P) , semi-persistent (SP) , or aperiodic (AP) , in case that the RACH-less LTM is performed by the UE and / or indicated by the NE. In some scenarios, the UE may perform the measurement on the CSI-RS resource (s) with the time domain behavior defined as P, SP, or AP in one of the above time interval (s) .

[0049] In some embodiments, the UE may measure the channel and interference for LTM based on common or the same CSI-RS resource (s) . In some other embodiments, the UE may measure the interference based on interference measurement resource (s) (IMR (s) ) for LTM, where the IMR may be configured by the NE. An IMR for LTM may be a CSI interference measurement (CSI-IM) resource or a CSI-RS resource for interference measurement, which may be associated with an LTM candidate cell or an SSB from an LTM candidate cell. The UE may measure the IMR for LTM in at least one of the time intervals discussed above.

[0050] The CSI report is transmitted by the UE for the first scheme for RACH-less LTM procedure during one of the multiple time intervals T0 to T6. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform the transmission of the CSI report during one of the first time interval T1, the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, the fifth time interval T5 or a time interval 212 associated with the first UL transmission, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0051] In some embodiments, the transmission of the CSI report occurs during one of the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, the fifth time interval T5 or a time interval 212 associated with the first UL transmission, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0052] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform transmission of the CSI report in the second time interval T2. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform a transmission of the CSI report in the second time interval T2.

[0053] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report in the first time interval T1, if the corresponding CSI-RS resource measurement is performed in the first time interval T1.

[0054] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report in the third time interval T3, if one of the following events occurs: the corresponding CSI-RS measurement is performed in one of the first T1 or the third T3 time intervals.

[0055] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report in the fourth time interval, if one of the following events occurs: the corresponding CSI-RS measurement is performed in one of the first T1, third T3, or fourth T4 time intervals.

[0056] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report in the fifth time interval, if one of the following events occurs: the corresponding CSI-RS measurement is performed in one of the first T1, third T3, or fourth T4 time intervals.

[0057] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report in the sixth time interval T6, if one of the following events occurs: the corresponding CSI-RS resource measurement is performed in one of the first T1, third T3, fourth T4, or sixth T6 time intervals.

[0058] In some embodiments, the UE may drop the LTM CSI report if the UE does not receive or measure at least X (e.g., X=1 or reported by the UE or configured by the NE) transmission occasion (s) of each CSI-RS resource for channel measurement and / or IMR in at least one of the intervals above. In some other embodiments, the NE and the UE may determine the timing for the first transmission occasion of the LTM CSI report based on the configured location of the CSI-RS resource for LTM channel measurement and / or IMR.

[0059] Another aspect of the CSI acquisition for RACH-less LTM is related to selecting a cell to which the UE should transmit the CSI report. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the source cell or the serving cell where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs the transmission of CSI report during the first time interval T1.

[0060] In some embodiments, if the UE 102 is configured by the NE 104, 106 to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the target cell or the candidate cell indicted by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the UE performs the transmission of the CSI report in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, the fifth time interval T5, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0061] An aspect of the CSI acquisition procedure for RACH-less LTM is related to selecting a medium to use for transmitting the CSI report. In some embodiments, the UE may perform the transmission of the CSI report for the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition via a UL channel or RS as follows: ● a PUCCH, ● a PUSCH, ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may carry an RRC reconfiguration complete  message, ○ in some other cases, the PUSCH may not carry an RRC reconfiguration  complete message. The PUSCH may be transmitted before another PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration complete message, ○ In some scenarios, the NE may configure or indicate the PUSCH dedicated  for CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition. In some scenarios, the UE may transmit the CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition as UCI multiplexed on the PUSCH, where the PUSCH may or may not include data or other UCI; in some other cases, the UE may transmit the CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition as a MAC-CE or an RRC message on the PUSCH; and / or ● an SRS resource, ○ in such cases, the NE may configure the UE with one or more SRS  resource (s) (e.g., via LTM-Config, or LTM-Candidate) . In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with an index reflecting a channel status or information. In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with a combination of a subset of CQI, PMI, and / or RI.

[0062] The UE may perform transmission of the CSI report via the above UL channel or RS for RACH-less LTM, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition.

[0063] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in one of above time interval (s) .

[0064] Another aspect of the CSI acquisition with the first scheme for RACH-less LTM is related to a reporting initiating signal. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may receive a first report initiating signal. In some embodiments, the first report initiating signal may be transmitted by the NE to initiate an AP CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition or a SP CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition.

[0065] With regard to the AP CSI report, in some embodiments, the first report initiating signal may trigger the AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following: ● a DCI. In one example, the DCI may be an UL grant. In one example, the DCI may  be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the DCI may be a group-common DCI; ● a MAC CE. In one example, the MAC CE may be different from an LTM CSC MAC  CE; ● an LTM CSC MAC CE. For this scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating the CSI request. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state of the LTM CSI report. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state including only one LTM CSI report configuration; and / or ● a DCI scheduling PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. For this scenario, the  NE may indicate or include a CSI request field in the DCI scheduling PDSCH carrying the LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the NE may indicate or include a field indicating whether the CSI request field is present in a DL assignment. In one example, the UE may determine a CSI request field is present in a DL assignment, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing LTM CSI acquisition.

[0066] With regard to the SP CSI report, in some embodiments, the first report initiating signal may activate or deactivate the SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following: ● a DCI. In one example, the MAC CE may be different from the LTM CSC MAC  CE; ● an LTM CSC MAC CE. For this scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating the activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report; and / or ● a DCI scheduling PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE.

[0067] In such embodiments, if the first report initiating signal is a DCI, the NE may indicate or include a report (de) activation field in the DCI. The report (de) activation field may indicate an activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report. In one example, the NE may indicate or include a field indicating whether the report (de) activation field is present in a DCI. In one example, the UE may determine a report (de) activation field is present in a DCI, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing LTM CSI acquisition.

[0068] In some embodiments, the first report initiating signal for AP CSI or SP CSI may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state for a source cell, or an LTM-Config. In some embodiments, the first report initiating signal may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state for a target cell, or an LTM-Candidate. In some embodiments, if the first report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state for the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration. In some embodiments, if the first report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state for the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration, until the triggered LTM CSI report is transmitted.

[0069] To initiate the generation and transmission of the CSI report for the first scheme for RACH-less LTM procedure, the NE sends to the UE, a report initiating signal during a report initiating time interval. Various relationships between the report initiating time interval and the multiple time intervals T0 to T6 are possible.

[0070] In some embodiments, the report initiating time interval is at least one of following time intervals of the multiple time intervals of the first timing scheme discussed above: ● the initial time interval T0. If the NE transmits to the UE the first report initiating  signal during the initial time interval T0, the NE may (only) transmit the first report initiating signal prior to the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the first report initiating signal; ● the first time interval T1. If the NE transmits to the UE the first report initiating signal  during the first time interval T1, the NE may transmit the first report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the first report initiating signal; ● the third time interval T3. If the NE transmits to the UE the first report initiating  signal during the third time interval T3, the NE may transmit the first report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the first report initiating signal; ● the fourth time interval T4. If the NE transmits to the UE the first report initiating  signal during the fourth time interval T4, the NE may transmit the first report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the first report initiating signal; and / or ● the sixth time interval T6. If the NE transmits to the UE the first report initiating  signal during the sixth time interval T6, the NE may transmit the first report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the first report initiating signal.

[0071] In some embodiments, if the NE transmits the first report initiating signal after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the first report initiating signal, the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report may have a time domain behavior characterized as periodic or semi-persistent.

[0072] Another aspect of the CSI acquisition based on the first scheme for RACH-less LTM is related to selecting a cell to which to transmit the report initiating signal. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the first report initiating signal via the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the NE transmits the first report initiating signal in one of the initial time interval T0 or the first time interval T1.

[0073] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the first report initiating signal via the target cell or the candidate cell indicted by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the NE transmits the first report initiating signal in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0074] Still with regard to the RACH-less LTM procedure, various aspects of the CSI-RS acquisition for the second scheme are discussed. Note that the above embodiments have been discussed for the first scheme for RACH-less LTM procedure using the first timing scheme illustrated in FIG. 2. The next embodiments are describing the second scheme for the RACH-less LTM procedure also using the first timing scheme.

[0075] A timing for the CSI-RS measurement for the second scheme is described. In some embodiments, if the UE 102 is configured by the NE 104 to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE 102 supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE 102 may perform the CSI-RS measurement during the initial time interval T0 of the multiple time intervals T0 to T6.

[0076] In some embodiments, the UE 102 may apply or utilize a corresponding RRC configuration (s) of the CSI-RS resource (s) in the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE 102 performs the CSI-RS resource measurement during the initial time interval T0.

[0077] In some embodiments, if the UE 102 is configured by the NE 104 to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE 102 supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE 102 may perform a measurement on the CSI-RS resource (s) with time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic, in case that RACH-less LTM is performed by the UE 102 and / or indicated by the NE 104. In some scenarios, the UE 102 may perform a CSI-RS measurement on CSI-RS resource (s) with time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in the initial time interval.

[0078] The UE transmitting the CSI report during one or more multiple time intervals T0 to T6 for the second scheme for RACH-less LTM is discussed. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform transmission of the CSI report during one of the first time interval T1, the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, the fifth time interval T5 or a time interval associated with the first UL transmission 212, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0079] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report, for the RACH-less LTM performed by the UE and / or indicated by the NE, during one of the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, the fifth time interval T5 or a time interval associated with the first UL transmission 212, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0080] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform transmission of the CSI report in the second time interval T2. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform transmission of the CSI report in the second time interval T2.

[0081] An aspect of the CSI acquisition based on the second scheme for RACH-less LTM is related to selecting a cell to which to transmit the CSI report. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the source cell or the serving cell from which the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs a transmission of the CSI report during the first time interval T1.

[0082] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-less LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the UE performs a transmission of the CSI report in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, the fifth time interval T5, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0083] An aspect of the CSI acquisition based on the second scheme for RACH-less LTM is related to selecting a medium for reporting the CSI report. In some embodiments, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition via an UL channel or RS: ● a PUCCH; ● a PUSCH, ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may carry an RRC reconfiguration complete  message, ○ in some other scenarios, the PUSCH may not carry an RRC reconfiguration  complete message. The PUSCH may be transmitted before another PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration complete message; or ● an SRS resource. In such scenario, the NE may configure the UE with one or more  SRS resource (s) (e.g., via LTM-Config, or LTM-Candidate) . In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with an index reflecting a channel status or information. In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with a combination of a subset of CQI, PMI, and / or RI.

[0084] The UE may perform transmission of the CSI report via the above UL channel or RS for the RACH-less LTM, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0085] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic. In some scenarios, the UE may perform the transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in one of above time interval (s) .

[0086] An aspect of the CSI acquisition based on the second scheme for RACH-less LTM is related to transmitting a second report initiating signal during a report initiating time interval. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may receive the second report initiating signal during the report initiating time interval. In some embodiments, the second report initiating signal may be transmitted by the NE to initiate an AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition or an SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0087] Some features associated with the AP CSI report are discussed followed by some features associated with the SP CSI report. In some embodiments, the second report initiating signal may trigger the AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following: ● a DCI. In one example, the DCI may be a UL grant. In another example, the DCI  may be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE.In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the DCI may be a group-common DCI; ● a MAC CE. In one example, the MAC CE may be different from the LTM CSC MAC  CE; ● an LTM CSC MAC CE. In such scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating a CSI request. In one example, the field indicating a CSI request may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration. In one example, the field indicating a CSI request may indicate a triggering state of the LTM CSI report. In one example, the field indicating a CSI request may indicate a triggering state including only one LTM CSI report configuration; or ● a DCI scheduling PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. In such scenario, the NE  may indicate or include a CSI request field in the DCI scheduling PDSCH carrying the LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the NE may indicate or include a field indicating whether the CSI request field is present in a DL assignment. In one example, the UE may determine that a CSI request field is present in a DL assignment, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform an LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0088] With regard to the SP CSI report, in some embodiments, the second report initiating signal may activate or deactivate the SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following: ● a DCI. In one example, the DCI may be an UL grant. In another example, the DCI  may be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE.In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the DCI may be a group-common DCI; ● an MAC CE. In one example, the MAC CE may be different from an LTM CSC  MAC CE; ● an LTM CSC MAC CE. In such scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating the activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report; or ● a DCI scheduling PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. In such embodiments, if  the second report initiating signal is a DCI, the NE may indicate or include a report (de) activation field in the DCI. The report (de) activation field may indicate an activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report. In one example, the NE may indicate or include a field indicating whether the report (de) activation field is present in a DCI. In one example, the UE may determine a report (de) activation field is present in a DCI, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0089] In some embodiments, the second report initiating signal for the AP CSI or the SP CSI may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state of a source cell, or an LTM-Config. In some embodiments, the second report initiating signal may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state of a target cell, or an LTM-Candidate. In some embodiments, if the second report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state of the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration. In some embodiments, if the second report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state of a source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration, until the triggered LTM CSI report is transmitted.

[0090] In some embodiments, the NE may transmit to the UE the second report initiating signal during at least one of the following time intervals: ● the initial time interval T0. If the NE transmits to the UE the second report initiating  signal in the initial time interval T0, the NE may (only) transmit the second report initiating signal prior to the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal; ● the first time interval T1. If the NE transmits to the UE the second report initiating  signal in the first time interval T1, the NE may transmit the second report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal; ● the third time interval T3. If the NE transmits to the UE the second report initiating  signal in the third time interval T3, the NE may transmit the second report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal; ● the fourth time interval T4. If the NE transmits to the UE the second report initiating  signal in the fourth time interval T4, the NE may transmit the second report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal; ● the sixth time interval T6. If the NE transmits to the UE the second report initiating  signal in the sixth time interval T6, the NE may transmit the second report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal.

[0091] In some embodiments, if the NE transmits the second report initiating signal after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal, the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report may have a time domain behavior characterized as periodic or semi-persistent.

[0092] In some embodiments, if the NE transmits the second report initiating signal after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the second report initiating signal, the second report initiating signal may trigger or initiate an AP CSI report.

[0093] An aspect of the CSI acquisition based on the second scheme for RACH-less LTM is related to selecting to which cell to transmit the report initiating signal. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the second report initiating signal via the source cell or the serving cell from which the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the NE transmits the second report initiating signal in the initial time interval T0 or the first time interval T1.

[0094] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the second report initiating signal via the target cell or the candidate cell indicted by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the NE transmits the second report initiating signal in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth time interval T4, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0095] One or more of the embodiments discussed above may be related to the methods discussed with regard to FIGs. 3A to 3C. Events illustrated in these figures that share similar reference numbers (for the last two digits) are considered to be identical or similar. Scenarios 300A and 300B of FIGs. 3A and 3B are related to the first scheme discussed above while scenarios 300C and 300D of FIGs. 3C and 3D are related to the second scheme discussed above. All these scenarios are related to CSI acquisition based on RACH-less LTM procedure, using the first and / or second schemes, and the first timing scheme.

[0096] According to a scenario 300A illustrated FIG. 3A, the UE 102 reports 310 its capability for supporting an LTM cell switch and / or for supporting LTM CSI acquisition for at least the first scheme. Note that any step in the figures that is indicated by a dash line indicates an optional step. Then, the NE (which is considered for this scenario to be a BS 104) transmits 320 at least an RRC configuration for configuring the LTM-Config (which is a configuration entity or structure that may include multiple parameters that specifies how the UE should perform the LTM) and / or configuring the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition. The BS 104 then transmits 330 the LTM CSC MAC CE to the UE 102 to initiate the LTM cell switch. The LTM CSC MAC CE in this embodiment indicates a valid TA value or triggers a RACH-less LTM procedure. The UE 102 responds by transmitting 340 an acknowledgment signal for the PDSCH carrying the LTM SCS MAC CE, to the BS 104. The BS 104 may transmit 350 a report initiating signal during one of the time intervals T0 to T6 discussed above with regard to FIG. 2. The BS then transmits 360, on a given CSI-RS resource, the CSI-RS for CSI measurement. The CSI-RS may be periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic.

[0097] In response to receiving the LTM CSC MAC CE in step 330, and after receiving 360 the CSI-RS for CSI acquisition, the UE 102 performs or initiates 361 a CSI-RS measurement, on the indicated CSI-RS resource (s) , for the CSI acquisition procedure. The embodiment of FIG. 3A illustrates the scenario 300A in wh ich the CSI-RS measurement 361 is performed after receiving 330 the LTM CSC MAC CE command, and after receiving 350 the report initiating signal. The embodiment of FIG. 3B shows a different scenario 300B, in which the CSI-RS measurement is performed 361 after receiving 330 the LTM CSC MAC CE command and after receiving 360 the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition, but before receiving 350 the report initiating signal. All other steps in the scenario 300B are identical to those of scenario 300A

[0098] With regard to the scenario 300A of FIG. 3A, after performing 361 the measurement on the CSI-RS resource for the CSI acquisition, the UE 102 transmits 370 a PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration completion message. This transmission may optionally include the CSI report for the measured CSI-RS of the CSI acquisition. The UE 102 transmits 380 the CSI report for the measured CSI-RS of the CSI acquisition (if the CSI report was not transmitted in step 370) . The CSI acquisition in the scenarios 300A and 300B may be characterized by a time domain behavior characterized as P, SP, or AP.

[0099] The transmission 350 of the report initiating signal may be absent if the report initiating signal is transmitted 330 by the LTM CSC MAC CE or if a transmission of the CSI report is periodic or semi-persistent. In one embodiment, the report initiating signal may be transmitted 350 after the CSI-RS for CSI acquisition is transmitted 360 (scenario 300B) , if the transmission 360 of the CSI-RS for CSI acquisition is periodic or semi-persistent, and a transmission 380 of the CSI report is aperiodic. The transmission 380 of the CSI report may be absent if the CSI report is transmitted 370 by the PUSCH. In one embodiment, the CSI report may be transmitted 380 before the PUSCH transmission 370.

[0100] The scenario 300C in FIG. 3C and the scenario 300D in FIG. 3D are related to the second scheme. The scenario 300C is similar to the scenario 300A, with the following differences. The UE 102 transmits 312 the UE capability to the BS 104, similar to step 310. However, for this scenario, the UE 102 supports an LTM CSI acquisition for the first and / or second schemes. Thus, the RRC configuration transmitted 322 by the BS 104 to the UE 102 may configure the first and second schemes of the LTM CSI acquisition procedure. The report initiating signal is transmitted 350 by the BS 104. The report initiating signal may be absent if it is transmitted by the LTM CSC MAC CE 330. In one embodiment (scenario 300D) , the report initiating signal may be transmitted after the transmission 360 of the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition, if the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition is periodic or semi-persistent and the transmission 366 of the CSI report is aperiodic. The CSI report transmission 366 may be absent if the CSI report is transmitted 370 by the PUSCH. In one example, the CSI report may be transmitted 366 after the transmission 370 of the PUSCH.

[0101] The remaining steps in FIG. 3C are similar to the corresponding steps in FIGs. 3A and 3B, and thus, their description is omitted. The scenario 300C of FIG. 3C shows the CSI-RS measurement 361 being performed before the transmission 330 of the LTM CSC MAC CE, and after the transmission 350 of the report initiating signal. The scenario 300D in FIG. 3D illustrates a case in which the CSI-RS measurement 361 is performed before the transmission 330 of the LTM CSC MAC CE and before the transmission 350 of the report initiating signal.

[0102] The embodiments discussed above with regard to FIGs. 2 to 3D describe the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-less LTM procedure for the first and second schemes, using the first timing scheme. The following embodiments with regard to FIGs. 4 to 5D describe the LTM CSI acquisition for a RACH-based LTM procedure, for the first and second schemes, using a second timing scheme.

[0104] The application of the first scheme for the RACH-based LTM procedure, using the second timing scheme, with regard to CSI-RS resource measurement is discussed. In some embodiments, if the UE 102 is configured by the NE 104 to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE 102 supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE 102 may perform the CSI-RS resource measurement during one of the first time interval T1, the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0105] In some embodiments, if the UE 102 is configured by the NE 104 to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE 102 supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE 102 may perform the CSI-RS resource measurement during one of the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth-Atime interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0106] In some embodiments, the UE 102 may not expect to perform the CSI-RS resource measurement in the second time interval T2. In such embodiments, the NE 104 may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE 102 to perform the CSI-RS resource measurement in the second time interval T2.

[0107] In some embodiments, the UE may apply or utilize corresponding RRC configuration (s) of CSI-RS resource (s) in the source cell or the serving cell where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs the CSI-RS resource measurement the first time interval T1.

[0108] In some embodiments, the UE may apply or utilize corresponding RRC configuration (s) of CSI-RS resource (s) in the target cell or the candidate cell indicted by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the UE performs the CSI-RS resource measurement in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0109] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a measurement on CSI-RS resource (s) with a time domain behavior characterized as P, SP, or AP, in case that the RACH-based LTM is performed by the UE and / or indicated by the NE. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a measurement on the CSI-RS resource (s) with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in one of the above time interval (s) .

[0110] In some embodiments, the UE may measure the channel and interference for the LTM procedure based on common or the same CSI-RS resource (s) . In some other embodiments, the UE may measure the interference based on interference measurement resource (s) (IMRs) for LTM, where the IMR may be configured by the NE. An IMR for LTM may be a CSI interference measurement (CSI-IM) resource or a CSI-RS resource for interference measurement, which may be associated with an LTM candidate cell or an SSB from an LTM candidate cell. The UE may measure the IMR for the LTM in at least one of the intervals T0 to T16 of the second timing scheme.

[0111] The application of the first scheme for the RACH-based LTM procedure for transmitting the CSI report is discussed. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may transmit the CSI report during at least one of the first time interval T1, the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the fifth time interval T5 or the first UL transmission 412, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0113] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform a transmission of the CSI report in the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, and / or the fourth-Atime interval T4-A. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform transmission of the CSI report in the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, and / or the fourth-A time interval T4-A.

[0114] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform transmission of the CSI report until a valid TA is received from the NE during the RACH-based LTM procedure. In some embodiments, the UE may not perform a transmission of the CSI report until a valid TA is derived by the UE during the RACH-based LTM procedure. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform a transmission of the CSI report until the NE transmits a valid TA to the UE during the RACH-based LTM procedure.

[0115] In some embodiments, for the RACH-based LTM, if the UE performs a transmission of the CSI report in the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the UE may (only) transmit the CSI report via one of the following media: Msg3 PUSCH, MsgA PUSCH, or PRACH. If the medium is the PRACH, the NE may configure or indicate one or more PRACH resource (s) . In one example, each of the one or more PRACH resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with an index reflecting a channel status or information. In one example, each of the one or more PRACH resource (s) may correspond to, or be associated with, a combination of a subset of CQI, PMI, and / or RI.

[0116] In some embodiments, for the RACH-based LTM, if the UE performs transmission of the CSI report in the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, or the fourth-B time interval T4-B (e.g., timing or UL transmission other than PRACH / Msg3 / MsgA) , the UE may (only) transmit the CSI report via PUCCH. In such situation, the PUCCH may be configured specifically for the LTM CSI acquisition. The NE may configure or indicate a guarding time prior to and / or after the PUCCH. The UE may determine whether to apply the TA value and / or determine the value of the applied TA.

[0117] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report during the first time interval T1, if the corresponding CSI-RS resource measurement is performed in the first time interval T1.

[0118] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report during the fourth-B time interval T4-B, if the corresponding CSI-RS resource measurement is performed during the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, or the fourth-B time interval T4-B.

[0119] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report in the fifth time interval T5 if the corresponding CSI-RS resource measurement is performed during the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, or the fourth-B time interval T4-B.

[0120] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report during the sixth time interval T6 if the corresponding CSI-RS resource measurement is performed during the first time interval T1, the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0121] In some embodiments, the UE may drop the LTM CSI report if the UE does not receive or measure at least X (e.g., X=1 or reported by the UE or configured by the NE) transmission occasion (s) of each CSI-RS resource for channel measurement and / or IMR, during at least one of the intervals above. In some other embodiments, the NE and the UE may determine the timing for the first transmission occasion of the LTM CSI report based on the configured location of the CSI-RS resource for LTM channel measurement and / or IMR.

[0122] Next, a determination to which cell to transmit the CSI report for the first scheme for RACH-based LTM is discussed. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs a transmission of the CSI report during the first time interval T1.

[0123] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the UE performs the transmission of the CSI report in one of the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the fifth time interval T5, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0124] Regarding the medium for reporting the CSI report, in some embodiments, the UE may perform transmission of the CSI report for the first scheme of LTM CSI acquisition via the following UL channel or RS: ● a PUCCH; ● a PUSCH, ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may carry an RRC reconfiguration complete  message, ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may not carry the RRC reconfiguration  complete message. The PUSCH may be transmitted before another PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration complete message, ○ in some scenarios, the NE may configure or indicate the PUSCH dedicated  for the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition. In some scenarios, the UE may transmit the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition as UCI multiplexed on the PUSCH, where the PUSCH may include data or other UCI; in some other scenarios, the UE may transmit the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition as a MAC-CE or RRC message on the PUSCH, or ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may be different from the PUSCH for Msg3  or MsgA; ● a PUSCH for Msg3 or MsgA; or ● an SRS resource. For this scenario, the NE may configure the UE with one or more  SRS resource (s) (e.g., via LTM-Config or LTM-Candidate) . In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with an index reflecting a channel status or information. In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with a combination of a subset of CQI, PMI, and / or RI.

[0125] The UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report via the above UL channel or RS for RACH-based LTM, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0126] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in one of above time interval (s) .

[0127] With regard to the report initiating signal for the first scheme for the RACH-based LTM, in some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may receive a third report initiating signal. In some embodiments, the third report initiating signal may be transmitted by the NE to initiate an AP CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition or an SP CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition.

[0128] A few features specific to the AP CSI report are discussed. In some embodiments, the third report initiating signal may trigger the AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following: ● a DCI; in one example, the DCI may be an UL grant. In one example, the DCI may  be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the DCI may be a group-common DCI, ● a MAC CE; in one example, the MAC CE may be different from the LTM CSC MAC  CE, ● an LTM CSC MAC CE; in such scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating a CSI request. In one example, the field indicating CSI request may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state of the LTM CSI report. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state including only one LTM CSI report configuration, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE, ● a random access response (RAR) or a MAC PDU; in such scenario, the RAR or  MAC PDU may include a field indicating a CSI request. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state of the LTM CSI report. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state including only one LTM CSI report configuration, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH with a RAR, or ● a Msg4 or a DCI addressed to a C-RNTI, which is monitored by the UE in response  to transmitting a Msg3, which may be a DL assignment or a UL grant.

[0129] In such embodiments, if the third report initiating signal is a DL assignment (e.g., a Msg4 or a DCI scheduling a PDSCH with an LTM CSC or RAR) , the NE may indicate or include a CSI request field in the DCI as a DL assignment. In one example, the NE may indicate or include a field indicating whether the CSI request field is present in a DL assignment. In one example, the UE may determine a CSI request field is present in a DL assignment, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0130] A few features specific to the SP CSI report are discussed. In some embodiments, the third report initiating signal may activate or deactivate an SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following: ● a DCI; in one example, the DCI may be an UL grant. In one example, the DCI may  be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the DCI may be a group-common DCI, ● a MAC CE; in one example, the MAC CE may be different from the LTM CSC MAC  CE, ● an LTM CSC MAC CE; in such scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating the activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for SP CSI report, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE, ● a RAR or a MAC PDU; in such scenario, the RAR or MAC PDU may include a field  indicating the activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH with a RAR, or ● a Msg4 or a DCI addressed to a C-RNTI, which is monitored by the UE in response  to transmitting a Msg3.

[0131] In such embodiments, if the third report initiating signal is a DCI, the NE may indicate or include a report (de) activation field in the DCI.

[0132] In some embodiments, the third report initiating signal for the AP CSI or SP CSI report may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state of a source cell, or an LTM-Config. In some embodiments, the third report initiating signal may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state of a target cell, or an LTM-Candidate. In some embodiments, if the third report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state of the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration. In some embodiments, if the third report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state of the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration, until the triggered LTM CSI report is transmitted.

[0133] About the timing of the third report initiating signal, in some embodiments, the NE may transmit to the UE the third report initiating signal during at least one of the following time intervals: ● the initial time interval T0; if the NE transmits, to the UE, the third report initiating  signal during the initial time interval T0, the NE may (only) transmit the third report initiating signal prior to the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal, ● the first time interval T1; if the NE transmits to the UE the third report initiating  signal during the first time interval T1, the NE may transmit the third report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal, ● the third time interval T3; if the NE transmits to the UE the third report initiating  signal during the third time interval T3, the NE may transmit the third report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal, ● the fourth-A time interval T4-A; if the NE transmits to the UE the third report  initiating signal during the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the NE may transmit the third report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal, ● the fourth-B time interval T4-B; if the NE transmits to the UE the third report  initiating signal during the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the NE may transmit the third report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal, or ● the sixth time interval T6; if the NE transmits to the UE the third report initiating  signal during the sixth time interval T6, the NE may transmit the third report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal.

[0134] In some embodiments, if the NE transmits the third report initiating signal after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the third report initiating signal, the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report may have a time domain behavior characterized as periodic or semi-persistent.

[0135] The next embodiments discuss aspects related to which cell to transmit the report initiating signal. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the third report initiating signal via the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the NE transmits the third report initiating signal in one of the initial time interval T0 or the first time interval T1.

[0136] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the third report initiating signal via the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the NE transmits the third report initiating signal in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth-Atime interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0137] In some embodiments, the NE 104 may refrain from transmitting, to the UE 102, a MAC CE as the third report initiating signal, if the NE 104 transmits, to the UE 102, the third report initiating signal in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, a time interval between the start of the fourth-B time interval T4-B and the timing when the UE 102 receives the RAR or applies the RAR, or a time interval when the UE has not received or derived a valid TA value.

[0138] While the above embodiments disclosed the CSI acquisition for the first scheme, the next embodiments disclose the CSI acquisition for the second scheme for RACH-based LTM, using the second timing scheme. Regarding the CSI-RS resource measurement, in some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a CSI-RS measurement on the CSI-RS resource during the initial time interval T0, when the RACH-based LTM is performed by the UE and / or indicated by the NE.

[0139] In some embodiments, the UE may apply or utilize a corresponding RRC configuration (s) of the CSI-RS resource (s) in the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs the CSI-RS measurement during the initial time interval T0.

[0140] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a measurement on CSI-RS resource (s) with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic, in case that the RACH-based LTM is performed by the UE and / or indicated by the NE. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a measurement on the CSI-RS resource (s) with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in the initial time interval T0.

[0141] With regard to the CSI reporting for the second scheme for RACH-based LTM, in some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report, for the RACH-based LTM performed by the UE and / or indicated by the NE, during at least one of the first time interval T1, the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, the fourth-Atime interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the fifth time interval T5 or the first UL transmission 512, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0142] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report during one of the first time interval T1, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the fifth time interval T5 or by the first UL transmission 512, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0143] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform a transmission of the CSI report during the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, and / or the fourth-A time interval T4-A. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform a transmission of the CSI report during the second time interval T2, the third time interval T3, and / or the fourth-A time interval TA-4.

[0144] In such embodiments, the UE may not expect to perform a transmission of the CSI report, until a valid TA is received from the NE during the RACH-based LTM procedure. In some embodiments, the UE may not perform a transmission of the CSI report until a valid TA is derived by the UE during the RACH-based LTM procedure. In such embodiments, the NE may refrain from indicating / configuring the UE to perform a transmission of the CSI report, until the NE transmits a valid TA to the UE during the RACH-based LTM procedure.

[0145] The following embodiments disclose to which cell to transmit to the CSI report. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the UE performs a transmission of the CSI report during the first time interval T1.

[0146] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for the RACH-based LTM, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report to the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the UE performs a transmission of the CSI report during one of the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the fifth time interval T5, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0147] Regarding the medium / signal used to report the CSI report, in some embodiments, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following UL channel or RS: ● a PUCCH, ● a PUSCH; ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may carry an RRC reconfiguration complete  message, ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may not carry an RRC reconfiguration  complete message. The PUSCH may be transmitted before another PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration complete message, or ○ in some scenarios, the PUSCH may be different from a PUSCH for Msg3 or  MsgA, ● a PUSCH for Msg3 or MsgA, or ● an SRS resource; In such scenarios, the NE may configure the UE with one or  more SRS resource (s) (e.g., via LTM-Config or LTM-Candidate) . In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with an index reflecting a channel status or information. In one example, each of the one or more SRS resource (s) may correspond to or be associated with a combination of a subset of the CQI, PMI, and / or RI.

[0148] The UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report via the above UL channel or RS for the RACH-based LTM, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0149] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic. In some scenarios, the UE may perform a transmission of the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic in one of above time interval (s) .

[0150] With regard to the report initiating signal used for the second scheme for the RACH-based LTM, in some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, for the RACH-based LTM, the UE may receive a fourth report initiating signal. In some embodiments, the fourth report initiating signal may be transmitted by the NE to initiate an AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition or an SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0151] Some features of the transmission of the AP CSI report are discussed. In some embodiments, the fourth report initiating signal may trigger the AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following means: ● a DCI; in one example, the DCI may be an UL grant. In another example, the DCI  may be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE.In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state of the LTM CSI report. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state including only one LTM CSI report configuration, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE; in such scenario, the  NE may indicate or include a CSI request field in the DCI a scheduled PDSCH carrying the LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the NE may indicate or include a field indicating whether the CSI request field is present in a DL assignment. In one example, the UE may determine a CSI request field is present in a DL assignment, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition, ● a RAR or a MAC PDU; in such scenario, the RAR or MAC PDU may include a field  indicating a CSI request. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state of the LTM CSI report. In one example, the field indicating the CSI request may indicate a triggering state including only one LTM CSI report configuration, ● a DCI scheduling PDSCH with RAR, or ● a Msg4 or a DCI addressed to an C-RNTI monitored by the UE in response to  transmitting a Msg3, which may be a DL assignment or UL grant.

[0152] In such embodiments, if the fourth report initiating signal is a DL assignment (e.g., a Msg4 or a DCI scheduling PDSCH with an LTM CSC or RAR) , the NE may indicate or include a CSI request field in the DCI as a DL assignment.

[0153] Some features associated with the transmitting of the SP CSI report are discussed. In some embodiments, the fourth report initiating signal may activate or deactivate the SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition via one of the following means:  ● a DCI; in one example, the DCI may be an UL grant. In one example, the DCI may  be a DL assignment scheduling a PDSCH without carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the DCI may be a DCI without scheduling DL or UL data. In one example, the DCI may be a group-common DCI, ● a MAC CE; in one example, the MAC CE may be different from the LTM CSC MAC  CE, ● an LTM CSC MAC CE; in such scenario, the LTM CSC MAC CE may include a  field indicating the activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH carrying an LTM CSC MAC CE, ● a RAR or a MAC PDU; in such scenario, the RAR or MAC PDU may include a field  indicating the activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report, ● a DCI scheduling a PDSCH with a RAR, or ● a Msg4 or a DCI addressed to a C-RNTI, which is monitored by the UE in response  to transmitting a Msg3.

[0154] In such embodiments, if the fourth report initiating signal is a DCI, the NE may indicate or include a report (de) activation field in the DCI. The report (de) activation field may indicate activation / deactivation status of the LTM CSI report configuration for the SP CSI report.

[0155] In some embodiments, the fourth report initiating signal for the AP CSI or the SP CSI may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state of a source cell, or an LTM-Config. In some embodiments, the fourth report initiating signal may indicate an LTM CSI report configuration, a triggering state of a target cell, or an LTM-Candidate. In some embodiments, if the fourth report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state of the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration. In some embodiments, if the fourth report initiating signal indicates the LTM CSI report configuration, the triggering state of the source cell, or the LTM-Config, the UE may keep the indicated LTM CSI report configuration, until the triggered LTM CSI report is transmitted.

[0156] Regarding a timing of transmitting the fourth report initiating signal, in some embodiments, the NE may transmit to the UE the fourth report initiating signal during at least one of: ● the initial time interval T0; if the NE transmits to the UE the fourth report initiating  signal during the initial time interval T0, the NE may (only) transmit the fourth report initiating signal prior to the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal, ● the first time interval T1; if the NE transmits to the UE the fourth report initiating  signal during the first time interval T1, the NE may transmit the fourth report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal, ● the third time interval T3; if the NE transmits to the UE the fourth report initiating  signal during the third time interval T3, the NE may transmit the fourth report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal, ● the fourth-A time interval T4-A; if the NE transmits to the UE the fourth report  initiating signal during the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the NE may transmit the fourth report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal, ● the fourth-B time interval T4-B; if the NE transmits to the UE the fourth report  initiating signal during the fourth-B time interval T4-B, the NE may transmit the fourth report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal, and / or ● the sixth time interval T6; if the NE transmits to the UE the fourth report initiating  signal during the sixth time interval T6, the NE may transmit the fourth report initiating signal prior to or after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal.

[0157] In some embodiments, if the NE transmits the fourth report initiating signal after the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report initiated by the fourth report initiating signal, the CSI-RS resource associated with the CSI report may have a time domain behavior characterized as periodic or semi-persistent.

[0158] With regard to which cell to transmit to the report initiating signal, in some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the fourth report initiating signal via the source cell or the serving cell from where the LTM CSC MAC CE is received, if the NE transmits the fourth report initiating signal during the initial time interval T0 or the first time interval T1.

[0159] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may transmit, to the UE, the fourth report initiating signal via the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, if the NE transmits the fourth report initiating signal in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, or the sixth time interval T6.

[0160] In some embodiments, the NE may refrain from transmitting, to the UE, a MAC CE as the fourth report initiating signal, if the NE transmits, to the UE, the fourth report initiating signal in one of the third time interval T3, the fourth-A time interval T4-A, the fourth-B time interval T4-B, a time interval between a start of the fourth-B time interval T4-B and a timing when the UE receives or applies the RAR, or a time interval when the UE has not received or derived a valid TA value.

[0161] The above embodiments discussed with regard to the LTM CSI acquisition for RACH-based LTM, using the first and second scheme, and the second timing scheme, are illustrated for scenarios 500A to 500D in FIGs. 5A to 5D, respectively. FIG. 5A illustrates a RACH-based scenario 500A in which the UE 102 optionally reports 510 its capabilities, for example, with regard to supporting an LTM cell switch, LTM CSI acquisition, and / or an LTM CSI acquisition for the first scheme. The NE (the BS 104 in this embodiment) transmits 520 an RRC configuration to the UE 102 to configure the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition. The BS 104 further transmits 531 the LTM CSC MAC CE indicating an invalid TA value or triggering the RACH-based LTM procedure. In response to receiving the LTM CSC MAC CE, the UE 102 transmits 540 an acknowledgment signal for the PDSCH carrying the LTM CSC MAC CE.

[0162] The UE 102 may receive 550 a report initiating signal (for initiating the generation and transmission of the CSI report) . As the UE does not have a valid TA, the UE 102 transmits 554 a PRACH (or Msg1 or preamble) , which may be indicated by the LTM CSC or a higher layer signal, or may be identified by the UE. This signal initiates the RACH-based LTM procedure. The BS 104 responds by transmitting 558 a RAR (or Msg2) corresponding to the PRACH to the UE 102. The BS 104 may also transmit 560 a CSI-RS for measurement (for CSI acquisition) with a time domain behavior characterized as P, SP, or AP (as discussed in the above embodiments) . In response to receiving 531 the LTM CSC MAC CE, the UE 102 performs 561 the CSI-RS measurement for the CSI-RS resource as part of the CSI acquisition.

[0163] The UE 102 may transmit 563 a Msg3, which is part of the RACH-based LTM procedure and the BS 104 may respond by transmitting 564 a Msg4, which completes the RACH-based LTM procedure. The UE 102 transmits 570 a PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration completion message and, optionally, the CSI report for the measured CSI-RS for CSI acquisition. If the CSI report is not transmitted in step 570, the UE 102 transmits 580 the CSI report to the BS 104.

[0164] The scenario 500A in FIG. 5A considers that the report initiating signal is transmitted 550 before performing 561 the CSI-RS measurement. The scenario 500B in FIG. 5B considers that the report initiating signal is transmitted 550 after performing 561 the CSI-RS measurement and before transmitting 580 the CSI report. Although FIG. 5B shows the report initiating signal being transmitted 550 before step 563, in one embodiment, it is possible to have the transmission 550 at any timing between the measurement 561 and the transmission 580. The other steps in the scenario 500B are identical to the steps of scenario 500A. Note that both scenarios 500A and 500B are RACH-based LTM procedures using the first scheme and the second timing scheme.

[0165] In the scenario 500A, the transmission 550 of the report initiating signal may be absent if the report initiating signal is transmitted 531 by the LTM CSC MAC CE or if the transmission 580 of the CSI report is periodic or semi-persistent. In one embodiment, the report initiating signal may be transmitted 550 after the transmission 560 of the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition, if the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition is periodic or semi-persistent and the transmission 580 of the CSI report is aperiodic. The transmission 580 of the CSI report may be absent if the CSI report is transmitted by the PUSCH 570. In one example, the transmission 580 of the CSI report may be before the PUSCH transmission 570. The transmission 563 of the Msg3 and the transmission 564 of the Msg4 may be absent if the CFRA is performed for the LTM. In one example, the transmission 560 of the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition may be transmitted before the PRACH transmission 554 or the RAR transmission 558. In one example, the transmission 560 of the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition may be transmitted after the transmission 563 of the Msg3 and the transmission 564 of the Msg4, if present.

[0166] The scenario 500C illustrated in FIG. 5C and the scenario 500D illustrated in FIG. 5D are related to a RACH-based LTM procedure that uses the second scheme, and the second timing scheme. The scenario 500C is similar to the scenario 500A, with the following differences. The UE 102 reports 512 its capabilities, which include LTM CSI acquisition for both the first and second schemes. This means that the RRC configuration transmitted 522 by the BS 104 to the UE 102 also configures the second scheme. The transmission 550 of the report initiating signal is performed before the transmission 531 of the LTM CSC MAC CE. The transmission 560 of the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition is performed before the transmission 531 of the LTM CSC MAC CE. The transmission 580 of the CSI report for the measured CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition is performed before the transmission 563 and 564 of the Msg3 and Msg4.

[0167] The scenario 500C in FIG. 5C considers that the report initiating signal is transmitted 550 before the performing 561 of the CSI-RS measurement. The scenario 500D in FIG. 5D considers that the report initiating signal is transmitted 550 between a timing of the performing 532 the CSI-RS measurement and a timing of the reporting 580 the CSI report. Note that the transmitting 550 the report initiating signal may be at any time between the performing 561 and the transmitting 580 in FIG. 5D. The other steps in the scenario 500D are identical to the steps of scenario 500C.

[0168] The transmission 550 of the report initiating signal may be absent if the report initiating signal is transmitted 531 by the LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, the report initiating signal may be transmitted after the transmission 560 of the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition, if the transmission 560 the CSI-RS for the CSI acquisition is periodic or semi-persistent and the transmission 580 of the CSI report is aperiodic. The transmission 580 of the CSI report may be absent if the CSI report is transmitted 570 by the PUSCH. In one example, the transmission 580 of the CSI report may be performed after the PUSCH transmission 570. The transmission 563 of the Msg3 and the transmission 564 of the Msg4 may be absent if the CFRA is performed for the LTM.

[0169] One or more of the embodiments discussed above with regard to FIGs. 2 to 5D may be implemented in a method 600 performed by the UE 102, as illustrated in FIG. 6. In the method 600, the UE 102 receives 631, from the NE 104, an LTM CSC for switching from a serving cell to a target cell. The UE 102 measures 661, before or after the receiving the LTM CSC, a CSI-RS, and transmits 680, to the NE 104, a CSI report based on the measured CSI-RS, where the transmitting of the CSI report corresponds to a first timing scheme (e.g., in FIG. 2) when the LTM CSC is associated with a first LTM procedure type and to a second timing scheme (e.g., in FIG. 4) when the LTM CSC is associated with a second LTM procedure type different from the first LTM procedure type.

[0170] The first LTM procedure type is a RACH-less LTM procedure and the LTM CSC indicates a valid TA value. The first timing scheme is associated with plural time intervals including: ● an initial time interval having an upper bound defined by the receiving of the LTM  CSC; ● a first time interval associated with a time between the receiving of the LTM CSC  and when the LTM CSC takes effect; ● a second time interval associated with a time used by the UE to apply a radio  resource control, RRC, configuration or parameter associated with the target cell; ● a third time interval associated with a time between an upper bound of the second  time interval and when an LTM transmission configuration information, TCI, state takes effect; ● a fourth time interval associated with a time between when the LTM TCI state takes  effect and a start of a first available uplink, UL, transmission occasion; ● a fifth time interval associated with a time of transmitting a first UL transmission,  after the receiving of the LTM CSC; and ● a sixth time interval having a lower bound defined by an end of the first UL  transmission.

[0171] The measuring the CSI-RS and the transmitting the CSI report are performed after receiving the LTM CSC, and when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the first time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the first, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth time intervals, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the third time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the third, fourth, fifth, or sixth time intervals, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the fourth time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the fourth, fifth, or sixth time intervals, and when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the sixth time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in the sixth time interval.

[0172] The method 600 may further include a step of receiving, from the NE, a report initiating signal configured to initiate generation of the CSI report as part of an LTM CSI acquisition procedure, where the receiving of the report initiating signal occurs in one of the initial, first, third, fourth, or sixth time intervals when the receiving of the report initiating signal is before the measuring of the CSI-RS, or the receiving of the report initiating signal occurs in one of the first, third, fourth, or sixth time intervals when the receiving of the report initiating signal is after the measuring of the CSI-RS. When the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the initial time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the first, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth time intervals.

[0173] When the measuring the CSI-RS is performed before the receiving the LTM CSC and the transmitting the CSI report is performed after the receiving the LTM CSC (which corresponds to the second scheme) , and when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the initial time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the first, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth time intervals. For the second scheme, the method 600 further includes receiving, from the NE, a report initiating signal configured to initiate generation of the CSI report as part of an LTM CSI acquisition procedure. For this scenario, the receiving of the report initiating signal occurs in the initial time interval when the receiving of the report initiating signal is before the measuring of the CSI-RS, or the receiving of the report initiating signal occurs in one of the initial, first, third, fourth, or sixth time intervals when the receiving of the report initiating signal is after the measuring of the CSI-RS.

[0174] For each of the first and second timing schemes, when the transmitting the CSI report occurs in the first time interval, the CSI report is transmitted to the serving cell, and when the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the third, fourth, fifth, or the sixth time intervals, the CSI report is transmitted to the target cell.

[0175] The second LTM procedure type in step 680 is a RACH-based LTM procedure and the LTM CSC indicates an invalid TA value. For this scenario, the second timing scheme is associated with plural time intervals including: ● an initial time interval having an upper bound defined by the receiving of the LTM  CSC; ● a first time interval associated with a time between the receiving of the LTM CSC  and when the LTM CSC takes effect; ● a second time interval associated with a time used by the UE to apply a radio  resource control, RRC, configuration or parameter associated with the target cell; ● a third time interval associated with a time between an upper bound of the second  time interval and when an LTM transmission configuration information, TCI, state takes effect; ● a fourth-A time interval associated with a time between when the LTM TCI state  takes effect and a start of a first available physical random access channel, PRACH, occasion, after the LTM TCI state takes effect; ● a fourth-B time interval associated with the start of the first avai lable PRACH  occasion and completing of a random access, RA, procedure; ● a fifth time interval associated with a time of transmitting a first uplink, UL,  transmission, after the receiving of the LTM CSC or after the completing of the RA procedure; and ● a sixth time interval having a lower bound defined by an end of the first UL  transmission.

[0176] In one embodiment, the measuring the CSI-RS and the transmitting the CSI report are performed after receiving the LTM CSC (which corresponds to the first scheme) . For this scenario, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the first time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the first, fourth-B, fifth, or sixth time intervals, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the third time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the fourth-B, fifth, or sixth time intervals, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the fourth-A time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the fourth-B, fifth, or sixth time intervals, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the fourth-B time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the fourth-B, fifth, or sixth time intervals, and when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the sixth time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in the sixth time interval.

[0177] The method 600 may further include, for the RACH-based LTM procedure when using the first scheme, a step of receiving, from the NE, a report initiating signal configured to initiate generation of the CSI report as part of an LTM CSI acquisition procedure. For this scenario, the receiving the report initiating signal occurs in one of the initial, first, third, fourth-A, fourth-B, or sixth time intervals when the receiving of the report initiating signal is before the measuring of the CSI-RS, or the receiving the report initiating signal occurs in one of the first, third, fourth-A, fourth-B, or sixth time intervals when the receiving of the report initiating signal is after the measuring of the CSI-RS.

[0178] For the second scheme for the RACH-based LTM procedure, the measuring the CSI-RS is performed before receiving the LTM CSC and the transmitting the CSI report is performed after receiving the LTM CSC. For this scenario, when the measuring the CSI-RS occurs in the initial time interval, the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the first, fourth-B, fifth, or sixth time intervals. The method 600 may further include receiving, from the NE, a report initiating signal configured to initiate generation of the CSI report as part of an LTM CSI acquisition procedure. For this scenario, the receiving the report initiating signal occurs in the initial time interval when the receiving of the report initiating signal is before the measuring of the CSI-RS, or the receiving the report initiating signal occurs in one of the initial, first, third, fourth-A, fourth-B, or sixth time intervals when the receiving of the report initiating signal is after the measuring of the CSI-RS.

[0179] With regard to the RACH-based LTM procedure, for each of the first and second timing schemes, when the transmitting the CSI report occurs in the first time interval, the CSI report is transmitted to the serving cell, and when the transmitting the CSI report occurs in one of the fourth-B, fifth, or the sixth time intervals, the CSI report is transmitted to the target cell.

[0180] One or more of the embodiments discussed above with regard to FIGs. 2 to 5D may be implemented in a method 700 performed by the NE 104, as illustrated in FIG. 7. In the method 700, the NE 104 transmits 720, to the UE 102, an LTM configuration for configuring a CSI report associated with an LTM CSI acquisition procedure. Then, the NE 104 transmits 760, to the UE 102, a CSI-RS for the LTM CSI acquisition procedure, transmits 731, to the UE, an LTM CSC for switching from a serving cell to a target cell, and receives 780, from the UE 102, the CSI report based on the CSI-RS, where the receiving of the CSI report corresponds to a first timing scheme (e.g., in FIG. 2) when the LTM CSC is associated with a first LTM procedure type and to a second timing scheme (e.g., in FIG. 4) when the LTM CSC is associated with a second LTM procedure type different from the first LTM procedure type.

[0181] The LTM CSC is associated with at least one of the first LTM procedure type, which is a random access channel-less, RACH-less, LTM procedure and the LTM CSC indicates a valid timing advance, TA, value, or the second LTM procedure type, which is a random access channel-based, RACH-based, LTM procedure and the LTM CSC indicates an invalid TA value.

[0182] The method further includes transmitting, to the UE, a report initiating signal for initiating the CSI report, where, for the first LTM procedure type and the first timing scheme, the report initiating signal is a triggering DCI or the LTM CSC, for an aperiodic, AP, CSI report, or the report initiating signal is an activation MAC CE, or the LTM CSC, for a semi-persistent, SP, CSI report, and where, for the second LTM procedure type and the second timing scheme, the report initiating signal is one of the triggering DCI, the LTM CSC, a RAR of a RA procedure, or a message associated with the RA procedure, for the AP CSI report, or the report initiating signal is one of the activation MAC CE, the LTM CSC, the RAR, or the message, for the SP CSI report.

[0183] After completion of an LTM cell switch, the method 700 further includes transmitting, to the UE via the target cell, an initial uplink transmission using a modulation and coding scheme, MCS, based on the CSI report.

[0184] One or more of the following embodiments may be combined with any of the above discussed embodiments, methods, and techniques. For both the RACH-less LTM and RACH-based LTM, there is a problem about how to determine whether an AP CSI triggering DCI is for a serving cell or an LTM target cell (and correspondingly, how to interpret the DCI fields) .

[0185] In some embodiments, if the UE 102 is configured by the NE 104 to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE 102 supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition, and if the UE 102 receives a triggering DCI for the AP CSI report in the initial or the first time interval (as defined in one or more of the above embodiments for the first or second timing schemes) , the UE 102 may determine whether the triggered AP CSI report is for the serving cell or the LTM candidate cell (i.e., for LTM CSI acquisition) based on one of the following: ● the triggering state or CSI request field; ○ in one example, a subset of codepoint (s) in the CSI request field may  indicate triggering state (s) dedicated for the LTM CSI acquisition, or ○ in one example, the NE may configure one or more AP CSI triggering  state (s) , which are dedicated for the LTM CSI acquisition, or ● a field or a number of bits in the triggering DCI indicating whether the triggered AP  CSI report is for the serving cell or the LTM candidate cell.

[0186] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition, and if the UE receives a triggering DCI for the AP CSI report in the initial or the first time interval, the UE may determine whether the PUSCH scheduled by the triggering DCI is for the serving cell or the LTM candidate cell, and / or whether to transmit the scheduled PUSCH, based on one of the following: ● whether the triggered AP CSI report is for the serving cell or the LTM candidate cell  (e.g., for the LTM CSI acquisition) ; ○ in one example, if the triggered AP CSI report is for the serving cell, the UE  may determine the scheduled PUSCH is for the serving cell, ○ in one example, if the triggered AP CSI report is for the LTM candidate cell,  the UE may determine that the scheduled PUSCH is for the LTM candidate cell, or ○ in one example, if the triggered AP CSI report is for the LTM candidate cell,  the UE may drop / discard or ignore or not transmit the scheduled PUSCH, or ● a field or a number of bits in the triggering DCI indicating whether the triggered AP  CSI report is for the serving cell or the LTM candidate cell.

[0187] In such embodiments, if the scheduled PUSCH by the triggering DCI is for the LTM candidate cell, the UE may interpret one or more DCI fields (e.g., time or frequency domain resource field) in the triggering DCI based on a configuration (s) of the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE. In one example, if the scheduled PUSCH by the triggering DCI is for the LTM candidate cell, the UE may interpret the frequency domain resource field in the triggering DCI based on BWP configuration (s) of the target cell or the candidate cell indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE.

[0188] In such embodiments, if the scheduled PUSCH by the triggering DCI is for the LTM candidate cell, the UE may determine the scheduled PUSCH is for first UL transmission or for a PUSCH carrying an RRC reconfiguration completion message or for a PUSCH to complete the LTM procedure.

[0189] Another aspect addressed by one or more of the following embodiments is related to how to determine a valid PUSCH occasion and / or RA occasion. I n some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform an LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition, and if the UE receives a report initiating signal (e.g. one of the first / second / third / fourth report initiating signals defined in one or more of the above embodiments) , for determining whether a UL or PUSCH occasion is valid, the UE may consider whether a CSI processing delay corresponding to a CSI report initiated by the report initiating signal was achieved before the UL or PUSCH occasion. Such embodiments may apply to RACH-less LTM and / or RACH-based LTM.

[0190] In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-based LTM, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition for the RACH-based LTM, and if the UE receives a report initiating signal (e.g. one of the first / second / third / fourth report initiating signal discussed above) , for determining whether an RA occasion is valid, the UE may consider whether a CSI processing delay corresponding to a CSI report, initiated by the report initiating signal, was achieved before the RA occasion. Such embodiments may apply to the RACH-based LTM procedure.

[0191] Another aspect addressed by one or more of the following embodiments is related to a reference timing for the LTM CSI report. The reference timing may apply for the LTM CSI report after reception of the LTM CSC MAC CE. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may determine a reference timing to apply a slot offset of the triggered AP CSI report or activated SP CSI report or configured periodic CSI report, based on one of the following timings: ● the reference timing may be the start slot, last slot, or a symbol of the PDSCH  carrying the LTM CSC MAC CE, ● the reference timing may be the start slot, last slot, or a symbol of the report  initiating signal or the channel carrying the report initiating signal, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the initial time interval T0, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the first time interval T1, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the second time interval T2, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the third time interval T3, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the fourth time interval T4, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the fourth-A time interval T4-A, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the fourth-B time interval T4-B, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the fifth time interval T5, ● the reference timing may be the start or end of the sixth time interval T6, ● the reference timing may be indicated by the report initiating signal, ● the reference timing may be indicated by the LTM CSC MAC CE, or ● the reference timing may be configured by the NE (e.g., configured by the CSI  report configuration for the LTM CSI acquisition) .

[0192] These embodiments may apply to the first scheme and / or the second scheme for the LTM CSI acquisition. Such embodiments may apply for RACH-less LTM and / or RACH-based LTM. Such embodiments may apply for the CSI report for the CSI LTM acquisition with a time domain behavior characterized as AP, SP and / or P.

[0193] Still another aspect addressed by one or more of the following embodiments is related to, for both the first and second schemes, how long the UE needs to maintain a buffer or memory for the measured P and / or SP CSI-RS. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured / indicated by the NE to perform the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the LTM CSI acquisition, and if the CSI-RS resource for the LTM CSI acquisition is configured as periodic or semi-persistent, the UE may determine when and / or whether to clear or drop the result of the measured CSI-RS resource for the LTM CSI acquisition based on one of the following: until transmission of a corresponding P / SP or AP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition, or based on a timer configured or indicated by the NE (e.g., by LTM-Config or LTM-Candidate) .

[0194] If the timer is considered, the UE may (re-) start the timer after a timing related to the CSI-RS resource for the LTM CSI acquisition (e.g., the end of the CSI-RS resource) . For such a scenario, the UE may stop the timer upon receiving a report initiating signal or transmitting an associated CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition. Alternatively, or in addition, the UE may clear or drop the result of the measured CSI-RS resource for the LTM CSI acquisition if the timer has expired. In one example, the NE may configure or indicate the timer to the UE if the measured CSI-RS resource for the LTM CSI acquisition is not associated with a P / SP CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition.

[0195] Such embodiments may apply for both the first and the second schemes of the LTM CSI acquisition. Alternatively, such embodiments may (only) apply for the second scheme of LTM CSI acquisition.

[0196] Another aspect addressed by one or more of the following embodiments is related to whether the UE needs to perform rate-matching on the CSI-RS from the LTM candidate cell. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured / indicated by the NE to perform the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE may perform one of option 1 and option 2. For option 1, the UE may determine that the CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition is not available for the PDSCH in the serving cell. For option 2, the UE may determine that the CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition is available for the PDSCH in the serving cell. In some embodiments, the UE may transmit a UE capability to indicate to the NE whether the UE supports option 1 or option 2 or both.

[0197] Another aspect addressed by one or more of the following embodiments is related to measuring various resources for the CSI report. These embodiments are applicable to both the first and second schemes. In some embodiments, if the UE is configured / indicated by the NE to perform both the first and the second schemes of the LTM CSI acquisition, or if the UE supports performing both the first and the second schemes of the LTM CSI acquisition, the UE and / or the NE may perform one of the following: ● the NE may refrain from configuring / indicating to the UE to measure periodic or  semi-persistent CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition, before transmitting to the UE an LTM CSC MAC CE; this may imply that the UE does not expect to measure periodic or semi-persistent CSI-RS for the LTM CSI acquisition before receiving an LTM CSC MAC CE, ● the NE may (only) configure / indicate to the UE to measure aperiodic CSI-RS  resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition, during time intervals before transmitting to the UE an LTM CSC MAC CE; this may imply that the UE may expect to (only) measure AP CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition, if indicated, before receiving the LTM CSC MAC CE, ● if the UE measures CSI-RS (s) on CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition  before receiving an LTM CSC MAC CE, the UE may (only) transmit an aperiodic CSI report, ● if the NE configures / indicates to the UE to measure CSI-RS (s) on periodic or semi- persistent CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition, before transmitting to the UE an LTM CSC MAC CE, the UE may not measure the CSI-RS or may determine a channel status based on the CSI-RS, until receiving an LTM CSC MAC CE.Additionally, or alternatively, the UE may buffer and / or receive periodic or semi-persistent CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition, and / or may start to process or measure the CSI-RSs upon receiving the LTM CSC MAC CE, ● the NE configures or indicates to the UE to measure one of periodic, semi- persistent, or aperiodic CSI-RS resource (s) for an LTM CSI acquisition, during time intervals after transmitting to the UE an LTM CSC MAC CE, or ● if the UE measures CSI-RS (s) on CSI-RS resource (s) for the LTM CSI acquisition  during time intervals after transmitting to the UE an LTM CSC MAC CE, the UE may transmit one of a periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic CSI report, based on a configuration / indication from the NE.

[0198] With regard to the LTM CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition, in some embodiments, the NE may configure at least one of the following: ● a list of channel measurement resource (CMR) , which may include one or multiple  CSI-RS resource sets; when multiple CSI-RS resource sets are configured, the NE may further configure or indicate one or a subset of CSI-RS resource sets are used for a CSI report or CSI acquisition or channel measurement. The NE may further configure or indicate the one or a subset of CSI-RS resource sets are for LTM. ● a list of IMR, which may include one or multiple IMR resource sets; when multiple  IMR resource sets are configured, the NE may further configure or indicate one or a subset of IMR resource sets are used for a CSI report or the CSI acquisition or interference measurement. The NE may further configure or indicate one or a subset of CSI-RS resource sets for LTM. In some scenarios, the NE may refrain from configuring the IMR for LTM. Thus, the UE may measure the interference based on the CMR for LTM, ● a codebook configuration, which may configure at least one codebook for a CSI  report for the LTM CSI acquisition, where the codebook or the codebook configuration may at least include one of the following: the Type1 single-panel codebook (e.g., as defined in 3GPP technical specification (TS) 38.214) , the Type1 multi-panel codebook (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , Type2 codebook, or a codebook for AI / ML based CSI compression and / or prediction. ○ the Type2 codebook may be one of the following: Type2 codebook (e.g., as  defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , Type2 port selection codebook (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , eType2 codebook (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , eType2 port selection codebook (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , FeType2 port selection codebook (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , eType2 codebook for coherent joint transmission (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , FeType2 port selection codebook for coherent joint transmission (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , eType2 codebook for predicted PMI (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) or FeType2 port selection codebook for predicted PMI (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) , ○ in some scenarios, the NE may configure at least one of the following  fields / parameters in the codebook: number of antenna ports, number of antenna ports in horizontal, e.g., N1, number of antenna ports in vertical, e.g., N2, number of oversampling beams in horizontal, e.g., O1, number of oversampling beams in vertical, e.g., O2, RI subset restriction, where in some cases, the maximum number of downlink layers for the LTM CSI report may be pre-defined, e.g., 1, or reported by the UE capability, then the candidate RI (s) may be based on the maximum number of downlink layers and the NE may refrain from configuring the RI subset restriction, or codebook subset restriction, or ○ in some scenarios, the NE may refrain from configuring at least one of the  following parameters for the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition (and / or the UE may ignore / disregard them if present or configured) : twoTX-CodebookSubsetRestriction, in such scenario, the UE may use a pre-defined value or default value, typeI-SinglePanel-ri-Restriction, in such scenario, the UE may use a pre-defined value or default value, codebookMode, for such case, the UE may use a pre-defined value or default value, and / or fewer candidate values for n1-n2 for type I single panel than CSI report for serving cell (i.e., not for LTM CSI acquisition) , ● CQI table, where the CQI table for the LTM CSI report for LTM CSI acquisition may  be pre-defined or selected based on a subset of or all candidate CQI tables; in some scenarios, a CQI table for the LTM may be introduced. In some other scenarios, the maximum modulation order for the CQI report may be pre-defined or reported by the UE or configured by the NW, then the UE may report the CQI based on the entries with the modulation order smaller than or equal to the maximum modulation order, ● time-domain restriction for channel measurement; in some scenarios, the NE may  configure the time-domain restriction based on the CSI measurement scheme. In one example, for the first scheme, the NE may refrain from configuring the time-domain restriction for channel measurement as enabled. In another example, for the second scheme, the NE may refrain from configuring the time-domain restriction for channel measurement as disabled, ● time-domain restriction for interference measurement; in some scenarios, the NE  may configure the time-domain restriction based on the CSI measurement scheme. In one example, for the first scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may refrain from configuring the time-domain restriction for interference measurement as enabled. In another example, for the second scheme of the LTM CSI acquisition, the NE may refrain from configuring the time-domain restriction for interference measurement as disabled, and time-domain behavior, CSI report frequency configuration, and CSI report quantity for the CSI report; in some scenarios, the NE may configure the CSI report frequency configuration as wideband report. Thus, the UE may report the wideband CSI. Alternatively, the NE may configure the UE to report wideband PMI and subband CQI. Alternatively, the NE may configure the UE to report subband PMI and subband CQI. In some other scenarios, the NE may configure the UE to report subband PMI / CQI, and / or configure the subband (s) for the subband PMI / CQI report.

[0199] In some embodiments, the UE may report the UE capability indicating the supported LTM CSI report configuration (s) based on the information above.

[0200] Regarding the MCS scheme for RAR, in some embodiments, the NE may configure or indicate the maximum modulation order for the PDSCH scheduled with at least one of the RNTIs, e.g., paging-RNTI (P-RNTI) , RA-RNTI, or system information-RNTI (SI-RNTI) . In some other embodiments, if the maximum modulation order for such PDSCH is not configured, the maximum modulation order for such PDSCH may be pre-defined, e.g., quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) (Qm = 2) . In one example, the UE may not be expected to decode a PDSCH scheduled with P-RNTI, RA-RNTI, or SI-RNTI and Qm > 2. In some other embodiments, the UE may report the UE capability indicating the maximum modulation order for the PDSCH scheduled with at least one of the RNTIs, e.g., P-RNTI, RA-RNTI, or SI-RNTI. In some embodiments, the NE may configure or indicate a modulation order larger than or other than QPSK (Qm = 2) for the PDSCH scheduled with at least one of the RNTIs, e.g., P-RNTI, RA-RNTI, or SI-RNTI, for example, 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) (Qm = 4) . In some scenarios, the NE may configure or indicate a modulation order larger than or other than QPSK (Qm = 2) for the PDSCH scheduled with at least one of the RNTIs, e.g., P-RNTI, RA-RNTI, or SI-RNTI, for example, 16QAM (Qm = 4) , (only) if the UE transmits the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition before the reception of the RAR. In some scenarios, if the UE does not transmit the CSI report for the LTM CSI acquisition before the reception of the RAR, the UE may not be expected to decode a PDSCH scheduled with P-RNTI, RA-RNTI, or SI-RNTI and Qm > 2.

[0201] Another aspect addressed by one or more of the following embodiments is related to an LTM CSI resource configuration for beam measurement. In some embodiments, the NE may configure the UE with one or more CSI-RS resource sets. In some scenarios, the one or more CSI-RS resource sets may be configured for the LTM procedure. In some scenarios, the one or more CSI-RS resource sets may be configured in the LTM-Candidate. In some scenarios, the one or more CSI-RS resource sets may be configured for beam measurement. In some scenarios, the NE may configure or include an RRC parameter “repetition” for the one or more CSI-RS resource sets or in a configuration (s) of the one or more CSI-RS resource sets.

[0202] In some embodiments, the RRC parameter repetition may be configured for the one or more CSI-RS resource sets or may be present in a configuration (s) of the one or more CSI-RS resource sets, if one of the following occurs: if the one or more CSI-RS resource sets is configured in LTM-Candidate-r19, or if the one or more CSI-RS resource sets is associated with a CSI report configuration (s) with reportQuantity as cri-RSRP.

[0203] In some embodiments, the NE may refrain from configuring the RRC parameter repetition for the one or more CSI-RS resource sets or in configuration (s) of the one or more CSI-RS resource sets, or the RRC parameter repetition may be absent in a configuration (s) of the one or more CSI-RS resource sets, or the UE may ignore or disregard the RRC parameter repetition present in a configuration (s) of the one or more CSI-RS resource sets, if one of the following occur: ● if the one or more CSI-RS resource sets is configured in the LTM-Candidate-r18, ● if the one or more CSI-RS resource sets is not associated with a CSI report  configuration (s) with reportQuantity as cri-RSRP, and / or ● if the one or more CSI-RS resource sets is configured in the LTM-Candidate and  not associated with the CSI report configuration (s) with reportQuantity as cri-RSRP.

[0204] In some embodiments, for NZP-CSI-RS-ResourcesSet, the RRC parameter repetition is ignored in case NZP-CSI-RS-ResourcesSet is received as part of an LTM-Candidate information element (IE) and not associated with a CSI-ReportConfig with reportQuantity as cri-RSRP.

[0205] In some embodiments, for NZP-CSI-RS-ResourcesSet, the RRC parameter repetition is not present in case the NZP-CSI-RS-ResourcesSet is received as part of an LTM-Candidate IE and not associated with a CSI-ReportConfig with reportQuantity as cri-RSRP.

[0223] Reference throughout this section to “one embodiment” or “an embodiment” means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment. Thus, the appearances of the phrases “in one embodiment” or “in an embodiment” in various places throughout the specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment. Further, the particular features, structures or characteristics may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments.

[0224] Numerical adjectives “first” , “second” , and “third” do not imply any order (are not ordinals) but are markers to distinguish separate instances of similar elements. References to the singular (e.g., “a” or “an” , “the” ) should include the plural unless clearly indicated otherwise.

[0225] As used herein, a phrase referring to “at least one of” or “one or more of” a list of items refers to any combination of those items, including single members. For example, “at least one of: a, b, or c” is intended to cover the possibilities of: a only, b only, c only, a combination of a and b, a combination of a and c, a combination of b and c, and a combination of a and b and c.

[0226] Although the features and elements of the present embodiments are described in the embodiments in particular combinations, each feature or element can be used alone without the other features and elements of the embodiments or in various combinations with or without other features and elements disclosed herein. The methods or flowcharts may be implemented in a computer program, software or firmware tangibly embodied in a computer-readable storage medium for execution by a specifically programmed computer or processor.
