Description

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING A BEAM INDICATION AND A BEAM REPORT IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication, and more particularly, to performing beam indication and beam reporting in a wireless communication system.BACKGROUND

[0002] The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifies a radio interface referred to as fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) (5G NR) . An architecture for a 5G NR wireless communication system includes a 5G core (5GC) network, a 5G radio access network (5G-RAN) , a user equipment (5G UE) , etc. The 5G NR architecture seeks to provide increased data rates, decreased latency, and / or increased capacity compared to prior generation cellular communication systems.

[0003] Wireless communication systems, in general, provide various telecommunication services (e.g., telephony, video, data, messaging, etc. ) based on multiple-access technologies, such as orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technologies, that support communication with multiple UEs. Improvements in mobile broadband continue the progression of such wireless communication technologies. For example, a UE transmits a beam report to a network entity and / or the UE determines a beam on which to transmit or receive a transmission. Details pertaining to the beam report and determining the beam may be undefined. BRIEF SUMMARY

[0004] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects. This summary neither identifies key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineates the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0005] A network entity, such as a base station or a unit of a base station, may communicate with a user equipment (UE) . In order to facilitate the communication, the network entity may configure the UE to transmit a beam report to the network entity. In an example, the network entity transmits reference signals (e.g., a synchronization signal block (SSB) , a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) ) on different beams. The UE performs measurements (e.g., a layer 1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) measurement, a layer 1 signal to interference plus noise ratio (L1-SINR) , etc. ) on the reference signals transmitted on the different beams, where the measurements are indicative of beam quality. The UE transmits a beam report to the network entity that indicates the measurements. The network entity transmits, based on the beam report, a beam activation indication to the UE via a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) and / or spatial relation information. The UE then activates the beam to receive a downlink (DL) transmission from the network entity, or to transmit an uplink (UL) transmission to the network entity.

[0006] The network entity may trigger the UE to transmit the beam report (referred to as a network entity initiated beam report) via signaling or the UE may initiate transmission of the beam report (referred to as a UE initiated beam report (UEI-BR) ) . A UEI-BR may reduce power consumption of the UE, reduce DL activation / triggering signaling overhead, and / or uplink (UL) overhead for beam reporting in comparison to power consumption of the UE, DL activation / triggering signaling overhead, and / or UL overhead associated with a network entity initiated beam report; however, several issues exist with respect to beam management procedures. When the network entity sends a beam indication / activation, the UE waits for a time delay before applying the beam indication / activation, which can cause a performance bottleneck at least in Frequency Range 2 (FR2) . Additionally, UE determination on how to apply a beam indicated by the network entity and whether to use a default beam for receiving a DL transmission is based on a relation between a scheduling offset and time-related parameters (e.g., timeDurationForQCL, beamSwitchTiming) not provided in Frequency Range 1 (FR1) , and thus UE behavior of beam indication / determination in FR1 is undefined. Furthermore, the UE may apply a UE-specific beam to receive a cell-specific signal or the UE may apply a cell-specific beam as a default beam in a time slot where no cell-specific signal is present, which may degrade performance.

[0007] Aspects of the present disclosure address the above-noted and other deficiencies by implementing procedures for performing beam indication and beam reporting in a wireless communication system. In some aspects, the present disclosure describes procedures for more rapidly apply beam activation and beam indication. For example, the present disclosure describes details pertaining to storing beam related properties in a beam report to reduce a time for applying beam activation and beam indication. In some aspects, the present disclosure describes UE behaviors for beam indication / determination in FR1. For example, the present disclosure describes how to interpret a relationship between a scheduling offset and a time-related parameter for quasi-colocation (QCL) (or a relationship between the scheduling offset and a time-related parameter for beam switching) . In some aspects, the present disclosure describes enhancing default beam determination procedures for FR1, FR2, and / or Frequency Range (FR3) . The present disclosure may enable the reduction of latency associated with a beam activation / indication and / or may enable a UE to receive a cell-specific signal via an appropriate beam to avoid system performance degradation.

[0008] According to some aspects, the UE receives, from a network entity, a configuration configuring at least one of: a relationship between a scheduling offset and a time parameter associated with at least one of: a quasi-colocation (QCL) or beam switching in frequency range 1 (FR1) , a beam configuration associated with at least one of: a cell-specific signal or a UE-specific signal, or storage of a QCL property of a reference signal (RS) associated with a beam report. The UE communicates, with the network entity, at least one of: a downlink (DL) transmission or an uplink (UL) transmission using a beam determined based on the configuration and a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state.

[0009] According to some aspects, the network entity transmits, to a user equipment (UE) , a configuration configuring at least one of: a relationship between a scheduling offset and a time parameter associated with at least one of: a quasi-colocation (QCL) or beam switching in frequency range 1 (FR1) , a beam configuration associated with at least one of: a cell-specific signal or a UE-specific signal, or storage of a QCL property of a reference signal (RS) associated with a beam report. The network entity communicates, with the UE, at least one of: a downlink (DL) transmission or an uplink (UL) transmission using a beam determined based on the configuration and a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0024] FIG. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with a plurality of cells 190. The wireless communications system includes user equipments (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 can be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) .

[0025] Operations of the base station 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which can enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, can be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or base stations 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / base stations 104.

[0026] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface can be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the base station 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the base station 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the base station 104e.

[0027] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0028] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 can control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0029] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a base station 104. Thus, the base station 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The base stations 104 provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network. The base stations 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The base stations 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0030] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a base station 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the base station 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the base station 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the base station 104d / RU 106d.

[0031] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (PCell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (SCell) .

[0032] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0033] The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may each include a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0034] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second base station 104e. For instance, the base station 104e of the cell 190e may transmit a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the base station 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the base station 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the base station 104e based on UE communication beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the base station 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the base station 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the base station 104e.

[0035] The base station 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the base station 104 or at least one unit of the base station 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The base station 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The base station 104 or an entity at the base station 104 can be implemented as an IAB node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the base station 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the base station 104e can be a master node and the base station / RU 160a can be a secondary node.

[0036] Still referring to FIG. 1, in certain aspects, any of the UEs 102 may include a UE beam indication component 140 configured to receive, from a network entity, a configuration configuring at least one of: a relationship between a scheduling offset and a time parameter associated with at least one of: a QCL or beam switching in FR1, a beam configuration associated with at least one of: a cell-specific signal or a UE-specific signal, or storage of a QCL property of an RS associated with a beam report. The UE beam indication component 140 is configured to communicate, with the network entity, at least one of: a DL transmission or an UL transmission using a beam determined based on the configuration and a TCI state.

[0037] In certain aspects, any of the base stations 104 or a network entity of the base stations 104 may include a network entity (NE) beam indication component 150 configured to transmit, to a UE, a configuration configuring at least one of: a relationship between a scheduling offset and a time parameter associated with at least one of: a QCL or beam switching in FR1, a beam configuration associated with at least one of: a cell-specific signal or a UE-specific signal, or storage of a QCL property of an RS associated with a beam report. The NE beam indication component 150 is configured to communicate, with the UE, at least one of: a DL transmission or an UL transmission using a beam determined based on the configuration and a TCI state.

[0038] Accordingly, FIG. 1 describes a wireless communication system that may be implemented in connection with aspects of one or more other figures described herein. Further, although the following description may be focused on 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas, such as 5G-Advanced and future versions, LTE, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , and other wireless technologies, such as 6G.

[0039] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with one or more TCI state lists for a component carrier (CC) of a serving cell, where the CC may include a primary cell (PCell) or a secondary cell (SCell) . For example, the network entity 104 configures a joint TCI state list for a CC of a serving cell. For example, the network entity 104 configures a DL TCI state list and / or a UL TCI state list for a CC of a serving cell. One joint TCI state list can include one or more joint TCI states. One DL TCI state list can include one or more DL TCI states. One UL TCI state list can include one or more UL TCI states.

[0040] In some aspects, the network entity 104 transmits a beam activation medium access control-control element (MAC-CE) to the UE 102 when or after the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with one or more TCI state lists for the CC of the serving cell and / or the UE 102 refers to or determines one or more TCI state lists for the CC of serving cell.

[0041] In some aspects, the beam activation MAC-CE activates and / or indicates one or more TCI states from the one or more TCI state lists. The one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE can map to one or more TCI codepoints in a TCI field. In some cases, the UE 102 (directly) applies or uses the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE for performing DL and / or UL transmissions (subsequently) . In some cases, the beam activation MAC-CE is a Unified TCI States Activation / Deactivation MAC-CE without a control resource set (CORESET) Pool identifier (ID) field present. In some cases, ifthe UE 102 operates in single TRP (S-TRP) mode, the beam activation MAC-CE is a Unified TCI States Activation / Deactivation MAC-CE without a CORESET Pool ID field present.

[0042] In some aspects, if the amount of TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE is greater than one, TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE map to one or more TCI codepoints in a TCI field in downlink control information (DCI) . In some aspects, if the amount of TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE is one, the UE 102 (directly) applies or uses the TCI state activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE for performing DL and / or UL transmissions (subsequently) .

[0043] In some aspects, one TCI state maps to one TCI codepoint based on the beam activation MAC-CE. In some cases, more than one TCI state maps to one TCI codepoint based on the beam activation MAC-CE. In some cases, the TCI codepoint indicates one of the following: one or more joint TCI states (some of which could include TCI states associated with a first TRP identifier and some of which could include TCI states associated with a second TRP identifier) , one or more DL TCI states (some of which could include TCI states associated with the first TRP identifier and some of which could include TCI states associated with the second TRP identifier) , one or more UL TCI states (some of which could include TCI states associated with the first TRP identifier and some of which could include TCI states associated with the second TRP identifier) , or one or more DL TCI states and one or more UL TCI states (some of which could include TCI states associated with the first TRP identifier and some of which could include TCI states associated with the second TRP identifier) .

[0044] In some aspects, the UE 102 receives a beam indication DCI indicating one or more TCI states. The beam indication DCI can indicate one or more TCI states by a TCI field in the beam indication DCI. In response to receiving the beam indication DCI, the UE 102 can transmit, to the network entity 104, a first acknowledgement (ACK) signal via a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) or a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission. In response to transmitting the first ACK signal, the UE 102 can apply and / or use the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam indication DCI for performing a DL and / or an UL transmission. In some cases, in response to transmitting the first ACK signal, the UE 102 applies and / or uses the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam indication DCI for performing a DL and / or an UL transmission after a first application time period. In some cases, the UE 102 applies and / or uses the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam indication DCI for performing a DL and / or an UL transmission starting from a first slot.

[0045] In some cases, the first slot is an earliest slot that is at least the first application time period after a last symbol ofa PUCCH or a PUSCH transmission. In some cases, the UE 102 determines the earliest slot (for determining the first slot) and / or the first application time period based on an active bandwidth part (BWP) with a smallest subcarrier spacing (SCS) among active BWP (s) of the carrier / serving cell (s) applying the one or more TCI states. In some cases, the first application time period is a symbol, a sub-slot, a slot, a sub-frame, a frame, milliseconds, or seconds. In some cases, the first application time period is beamAppTime.

[0046] In other aspects, the UE 102 receives the beam activation MAC-CE indicating one or more TCI states. In response to receiving the beam activation MAC-CE, the UE 102 transmits, to the network entity 104, a second ACK signal via a PUCCH or a PUSCH transmission. In response to transmitting the second ACK signal, the UE 102 applies and / or uses the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE for performing a DL and / or an UL transmission. In some cases, in response to transmitting the second ACK signal, the UE 102 applies and / or uses the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE for performing a DL and / or an UL transmission after a second application time period. In some cases, the UE 102 applies and / or uses the one or more TCI states activated / indicated by the beam activation MAC-CE for performing a DL and / or an UL transmission starting from a second slot.

[0047] In some cases, the second slot is an earliest slot that is at least the second application time period after the (last) slot of the PUCCH or the PUSCH transmission. In some cases, the second application time period is In some cases, μis the SCS configuration for the PUCCH or the PUSCH transmission;  is the SCS configuration for kmac with a value of 0 for FR1, and kmac is provided by K-Mac or kmac = 0 ifK-Mac is not provided.

[0048] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates the UE 102 to perform a transmission of a UEI-BR. In some cases, if the network entity 104 configures / indicates the UE 102 to perform the UEI-BR, the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR on a preconfigured / pre-indicated UL resource / channel or on a dynamically allocated UL resource / channel. In some cases, the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR only when the UE 102 detects a triggering event for the UEI-BR. In some cases, the UEI-BR is a beam report or a CSI report for reporting L1-RSRP and / or L1-SINR (i.e., an L1-RSRP measurement and / or an L1-SINR measurement) . In some cases, the UEI-BR reports an SSB index, CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , and / or a (Capability) Index.

[0049] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with configuration (s) for a UEI-BR for a serving cell or a cell group. The configuration (s) for the UEI-BR may include or refer to at least one of the following: measurement RS configuration (s) for a current beam, measurement RS configuration (s) for a new beam or a candidate beam, or an indication of a mode of a UEI-BR. With respect to the measurement RS configuration (s) for the current beam, in some cases, the current beam is referred to the indicated TCI state (e.g., a joint / DL / UL TCI state) , a QCL assumption, or a joint / DL / UL TCI state applied for a channel or RS not following / applying the indicated TCI state. With respect to the measurement RS configuration (s) for the current beam, in some cases, the current beam is referred to or derived from a QCL RS of the indicated TCI state or an SSB which is quasi-colocated (QCLed) with the QCL RS in the indicated TCI state. With respect to the measurement RS configuration (s) for the current beam, in some cases, the measurement RS configuration (s) for the current beam are implicitly derived from a QCL RS of the indicated TCI state or the SSB which is QCLed with the QCL RS in the indicated TCI state, or explicitly configured by RRC signaling or a MAC-CE. With respect to the measurement RS configuration (s) for the new beam or the candidate beam, in some cases, the measurement RS configuration (s) for the new beam or the candidate beam are explicitly configured by RRC signaling (e.g., reusing a configuration of an RS measurement or in a TCI state) , a MAC-CE, implicitly derived from QCL RS (s) of activated TCI state (s) , or implicitly derived from QCL RS(s) of configured TCI state (s) . With respect to the measurement RS configuration (s) for the new beam or the candidate beam, in some cases, the new beam or the candidate beam are referred to as RS resource (s) configured by the network entity 104 (e.g., for UEI-BR purposes) .

[0050] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with configuration (s) for indicating whether a first mode or a second mode of performing UEI-BR is operated for a serving cell, multiple CC (s) , a PUCCH cell group, or a cell group.

[0051] In some aspects, if the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 to operate in a first mode of UEI-BR, the UE 102 and / or the network entity 104 perform one of the following: the UE 102 transmits a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for an UL channel to transmit an UEI-BR, the network entity 104 transmits a first response (e.g., a first DCI) to the UE 102 in response to receiving the request signal, the UE 102 detects or receives the first DCI from the network entity 104 to indicate an UL resource for an UL channel to transmit the UEI-BR, or the UE transmits the UEI-BR on the UL resource for the UL channel indicated by the first DCI. When the UE 102 transmits a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for a UL channel to transmit an UEI-BR, a capability of the PUCCH or a length of the request signal may include one-bit. Alternatively, the capability of the PUCCH or the length of the request signal may include multiple-bits. When the UE 102 transmits a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for a UL  channel to transmit an UEI-BR, the request signal may include a scheduling request (SR) or uplink control information (UCI) (i.e., a UCI other than a scheduling request (SR)  / hybrid automatic repeat request acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK)  / CSI UCI) . When the UE 102 transmits a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for a UL channel to transmit an UEI-BR, the UE 102 may transmit the request signal in response to detecting one or more event (s) for triggering a UEI-BR. When the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR on the UL resource for the UL channel indicated by the first DCI, the UL channel may be a dynamic grant PUSCH (DG-PUSCH) , a configured grant PUSCH (CG-PUSCH) , or a PUCCH. In some cases, if an available UL channel exists, the UE 102 skips transmitting the request signal to the network entity 104 and / or the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR on an available UL channel. In some cases, if an available UL channel exists, the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR on an available UL channel, with a special UCI multiplexed or carried by the available UL channel to indicate that the UEI-BR is transmitted on the available UL channel. In some cases, the UE 102 determines whether an available UL channel exists by itself (e.g., by considering a waiting time until a next transmission occasion of an UL channel) .

[0052] In some aspects, if the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 to operate in a second mode of UEI-BR, the UE 102 and / or the network entity 104 perform one of the following: the network entity 104 preconfigures one or more UL resources for UL channel (s) for the UE 102 to transmit a UEI-BR, the UE 102 transmits a notification signal on a PUCCH to notify a preconfigured resource for the UL channel, the network entity 104 transmits a second response (e.g., a second DCI or another DL signal) to the UE 102 in response to receiving the notification signal, the UE 102 detects or receives the second DCI from the network entity 104, or the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR on the preconfigured UL resource for the UL channel (s) indicated by the notification signal. When the UE 102 transmits a notification signal on a PUCCH to indicate a preconfigured resource for the UL channel (s) , a capability of the PUCCH or a length of the notification signal may include one-bit. Alternatively, the capability of the PUCCH or the length of the notification signal may include multiple-bits. When the UE 102 transmits a notification signal on a PUCCH to indicate a preconfigured resource for the UL channel (s) , the notification signal may be an SR or a UCI other than a SR / HARQ-ACK / CSI UCI. When the UE 102 transmits a notification signal on a PUCCH to indicate a preconfigured resource for the UL channel (s) , the UE 102 may transmit the notification signal in response to detecting one or more event (s) for triggering a UEI-BR. When the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR on the preconfigured UL resource for the UL channel (s) notified by the notification signal, the UL channel (s) may be or include a DG-PUSCH, a CG-PUSCH, or a PUCCH.

[0053] In some aspects, the network entity 104 indicates and / or configures a dedicated RRC parameter to indicate which mode of UEI-BR is to be used. In some cases, the network entity 104 configures the dedicated RRC parameter for a serving cell or a cell group. In some other aspects, the network entity 104 indicates or the UE 102 determines which mode of UEI-BR is to be used based on whether the network entity 104 configures or preconfigures one or more resources for an UL channel for the UEI-BR.For example, if the network entity 104 does not configure or preconfigure one or more resources for an UL channel for the UEI-BR for a serving cell or a cell group, the UE 102 determines the first mode is to be used for the serving cell or the cell group. If the network entity 104 configures or preconfigures one or more resources for an UL channel for a UEI-BR for a serving cell or a cell group, the UE 102 determines the second mode is to be used for the serving cell or the cell group.

[0054] In some aspects, the UE 102 transmits the UEI-BR, the request signal, or the notification signal in response to detecting at least one of the following triggering events: a first triggering event being that a quality of the current beam is lower than a certain threshold, a second triggering event being that a quality (e.g., an L1-RSRP) of at least one new beam is greater than the current beam, a third triggering event being that a quality of a new beam is greater than a certain threshold, a fourth triggering event being that a quality of the current beam is less than a first threshold and quality of at least one new beam is greater than a second threshold, a fifth triggering event being that an absolute value of a difference between the quality of the current beam and the quality of at least one new beam is lower than a threshold, a sixth triggering event being that the current beam is not in the best K > 1 beams (out of configured beams for measurement and reporting) , where K is an integer, a seventh triggering event being that a quality (e.g., L1-RSRP) of at least one new beam becomes a threshold value greater than an RS derived from an activated TCI state with the Mth best quality (the network entity 104 may configure a value of M, where M is an integer) , an eighth triggering event being that a quality (e.g., L1-RSRP) of at least one new beam becomes a threshold value greater than the RS derived from the activated TCI state with the worst quality, a ninth triggering event being that a quality (e.g., L1-RSRP) of at least one new beam becomes a threshold value greater than the RS derived from the activated TCI state with the best quality, a tenth triggering event being that a quality (e.g., L1-RSRP) of M > 1 new beams become a threshold value greater than the current beam, or an eleventh triggering event being that a quality (e.g., L1-RSRP) of at least one new beam becomes a threshold value greater than the configured reference RS (e.g., an SSB or a CSI-RS) .

[0055] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates, to the UE 102, one or more UEI-BR configurations. In some cases, the UE 102 performs a transmission of a UEI-BR based on a UEI-BR configuration. In some cases, the network entity 104 configures / indicates a report quantity of a UEI-BR by a UEI-BR configuration.

[0056] In some aspects, a CSI report configuration of a UEI-BR is the same as that of a CSI report not for a UEI-BR (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) . In some cases, a CSI report configuration of a UEI-BR is CSI-ReportConfig including an RRC parameter indicating the CSI report configuration is for UEI-BR. In some cases, a CSI report configuration for configuring a UEI-BR is CSI-ReportConfig without including an RRC parameter indicating time domain behavior (e.g., reportConfigType) .

[0057] FIG. 2 is a signaling diagram 200 illustrating communications between a UE 102 and a network entity 104 for performing a beam determination for receiving a DL transmission in FR1 or FR2 according to an embodiment. The network entity 104 may correspond to a base station or a unit of a base station, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, the CU 110, etc.

[0058] The UE 102 optionally transmits 202 (and the network entity 104 optionally receives 202) capabilit (ies) indicating support for unified TCI state (s) (e.g., joint / DL / UL TCI states) , a supported QCL threshold for a PDSCH, a supported beam switching threshold for an aperiodic (AP) CSI-RS, and / or a supported default beam determination. The network entity 104 transmits 206 (and the UE 102 receives 206) radio resource control (RRC) configuration (s) for configuring joint / DL / UL TCI state (s) . The network entity 104 optionally transmits 220 (and the UE 102 optionally receives 220) a TCI activation MAC-CE that activates the joint / DL / UL TCI state (s) . The network entity 104 may not transmit 220 a TCI activation MAC-CE, if the network entity 104 only configures one joint / DL / UL TCI state. The network entity 104 optionally transmits 224 (and the UE 102 optionally receives 224) a TCI indication DCI that indicates one or two of the joint / DL / UL TCI state (s) . The network entity 104 may not transmit 224 a TCI indication DCI, if the network entity 104 only activates one joint / DL / UL TCI state. The network entity 104 transmits 228 (and the UE 102 receives 228) a scheduling DCI for the PDSCH or a triggering DCI for the AP-CSI of a serving cell. The UE 102 determines 232A a beam on which to receive the PDSCH or the AP CSI-RS based on a frequency range (FR) of the serving cell, whether QCL-Type D is configured for a TCI state, and / or whether a TCI state is associated with a neighbor cell physical cell identity (PCI) . The network entity 104 determines 232B a beam on which to transmit the PDSCH or the AP CSI-RS based on a frequency range (FR) of the serving cell, whether QCL-Type D is configured for a TCI state, and / or whether a TCI state is associated with a neighbor cell physical cell identity (PCI) . The network entity 104 transmits 236 (and the UE 102 receives 236) a scheduled PDSCH or a triggered AP CSI-RS for the serving cell. For instance, the network entity 104 transmits 236 the scheduled PDSCH or the triggered AP CSI-RS for the serving cell on the determined transmit beam and the UE 102 receives 236 the scheduled PDSCH or the triggered AP CSI-RS on the determined receive beam.

[0059] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures one or more joint / DL / UL TCI state (s) to the UE 102 for a serving cell or a BWP. The network entity 104 may indicate an indicated joint / DL TCI state for the serving cell or a BWP via a beam indication DCI or a beam activation MAC-CE (as described above) . In some cases, the network entity 104 configures or indicates the UE 102 to operate / perform a unified TCI state for S-TRP or a unified TCI state for the serving cell or the BWP. In some cases, ifthe UE 102 operates / performs the unified TCI state for S-TRP or the unified TCI state for the serving cell or the BWP, such operations / performance imply that the network entity 104 (only) indicates one indicated joint / DL TCI state and / or one indicated UL TCI state for the UE 102 to apply for receiving a DL transmission (if applicable) and / or transmitting an UL transmission (if applicable) . In some cases, the serving cell or the BWP is in FR1, which means that the UE 102 communicates with the network entity 104 via the serving cell or the BWP in FR1. In some cases, the serving cell or BWP is in FR2, which means that the UE 102 communicates with the network entity 104 via the serving cell or the BWP in FR2. In some cases, the serving cell or BWP is in FR3, which means that the UE 102 communicates with the network entity 104 via the serving cell or the BWP in FR3.

[0060] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with one or more additional PCI indexes (e.g., via SSB-MTC-AdditionalPCI) . In some cases, each of the one or more additional PCI indexes are associated with or correspond to an additional PCI or a PCI which is different from that of the serving cell or the PCell. In some cases, each of the one or more additional PCI indexes are associated with or correspond to an additional PCI or a PCI of a neighboring cell.

[0061] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures a subset of the one or more configured joint / DL / UL TCI states to be associated with one of the one or more configured additional PCI indexes. In some cases, the network entity 104 activates some configured joint / DL / UL TCI state (s) associated with an additional PCI index via a beam activation MAC-CE. In some cases, at most one additional PCI index value is associated with the activated joint / DL / UL TCI state (s) by the network entity 104.

[0062] In some aspects, the UE 102 reports a first threshold (e.g., timeDurationForQCL) to the network entity 104 via a UE capability report. In some cases, the first threshold is associated with a minimum number of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols for the UE 102 to perform a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) reception and to apply spatial QCL information received in a DCI for PDSCH processing. In some cases, the number of OFDM symbols is measured from an end of a last symbol of a PDCCH reception to the start of the first symbol of the PDSCH reception. In some cases, the first threshold is reported per SCS. In some cases, the UE 102 reports the first threshold for band (s) or frequency range (s) that the UE supports for QCL-TypeD (a spatial reception filter) .

[0063] In some aspects, the UE 102 reports a second threshold (e.g., beamSwitchTiming) to the network entity 104 via a UE capability report. In some cases, the second threshold is associated with a minimum number of OFDM symbols between a DCI triggering of an aperiodic CSI-RS and a triggered aperiodic CSI-RS transmission. In some cases, the number of OFDM symbols is measured from the end of the last symbol containing the triggering DCI to the start of the first symbol of the CSI-RS. In some cases, the second threshold is reported per SCS. In some cases, the UE 102 reports the second threshold for band (s) or frequency range (s) that the UE 102 supports for QCL-TypeD (spatial reception filter) .

[0064] In some aspects, at least for cases where a serving cell or a BWP is in FR2 / FR3, if the UE 102 is provided dl-OrJointTCI-StateList, and iran offset between a reception of a DL DCI and a corresponding PDSCH is less than the first threshold (timeDurationForQCL) and at least one configured / activated / indicated TCI state for the serving cell of a scheduled PDSCH contains qcl-Type set to ′typeD, ′ regardless of a configuration of followUnifiedTCI-State, the UE 102 performs at least one of the following behaviors: if the indicated TCI state is associated with the PCI of the serving cell, the UE 102 applies the indicated TCI state for PDSCH reception; and / or if the indicated TCI state is associated with a PCI different from a PCI of the serving cell, the UE 102 assumes or determines that demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) ports of PDSCH (s) of the serving cell are QCLed with RS (s) with respect to QCL parameter (s) used for a PDCCH QCL indication of a CORESET associated with a monitored search space with a lowest controlResourceSetId in a latest slot in which one or more CORESETs within the active BWP of the serving cell are monitored by the UE 102. In a carrier aggregation (CA) case, if the QCL-TypeD ofPDSCH DM-RSs from respective CCs in a band are different in a slot, the QCL-TypeD assumption of the PDSCH DM-RS in the CC with a lowest CC identifier (ID) in the band is applied to all the PDSCH DM-RSs in the CCs in the band. In this case, if the qcl-Type set to typeD of the PDSCH DM-RS is different from that of the PDCCH DM-RS with which they overlap in at least one symbol, the UE 102 may prioritize reception of a PDCCH associated with that CORESET. This may also apply to an intra-band CA case (when the PDSCH and the CORESET are in different CCs) .

[0097] In some aspects, if the network entity 104 indicates, to the UE 102, an indicated or activated TCI state with a QCL RS configured as (or QCLed with) an RS that the UE 102 has stored a corresponding QCL property, the UE 102 determines that the indicated or the activated TCI state is a known TCI state.

[0098] In some aspects, the UE 102 stores a QCL property or a L3-RSRP of a reported RS in a transmitted beam report, if at least one of the following storing conditions is satisfied: the UE 102 detects a triggering condition of an event for the beam report that is satisfied via a reported RS or a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the reported RS is larger than or equal to -3dB.

[0099] In some aspects, the UE 102 reports to the network entity 104 a UE capability on a maximum number of stored reported RSs from a beam report. In some aspects, if a number of reported RS (s) satisfying storing condition (s) is larger than the maximum number of stored reported RS (s) from a beam report, the UE 102 performs one of the following options to make the number of total stored reported RS (s) equal to or less than the maximum number of stored reported RS (s) from the beam report: the LE 102 may store the reported RS (s) based on reported / measured quality values (e.g., L1-RSRP or L3-RSRP) of the reported RS (s) (e.g., store reported RS (s) with a higher reported / measured quality value first or store reported RS (s) with a reported / measured quality higher than a threshold (e.g., -3dB) predefined or configured by the network entity 104 or reported by the UE 102, or the UE 102 may store the reported RS (s) based on a RS ID (e.g., store reported RS (s) with lower or higher RS IDs first) , or the UE 102 may randomly select the reported RS (s) satisfying storing condition to store, or the UE 102 may select the reported RS (s) satisfying storing condition to store by UE implementation, or the UE 102 may store the reported RS (s) based on a reporting position of the reported RS (s) in the report format (in some cases, the UE 102 may store the reported RS (s) in the first-N or last-N position in the report format, where N is an integer) . In one example, the value of N is configured / indicated by the network entity 104, reported by the UE 102, or predefined. Another option is that the UE 102 reports RS resource index (es) for the RS (s) with a QCL property that the UE 102 has stored (in some cases, the UE 102 puts RS resource index (es) for the RS (s) with a QCL property stored in the first-M or last-M position in the report format) . In one example, the value of M is configured / indicated by the network entity 104, reported by the UE 102, or predefined. Another option is that the UE 102 stores the reported RS (s) based on RS type (e.g., the UE 102 may store a QCL property for an SSB, but may not store QCL information for a CSI-RS, or the UE 102 may store the QCL information for the CSI-RS that is QCLed with an SSB and may not store the QCL information for the CSI-RS that is not QCLed with any SSB) .

[0100] In some aspects, if the beam report is for a serving cell, a PCell / SCell, or a source cell, the UE 102 does not store one or more RSs reported in the beam report. If the beam report is for an LTM candidate cell or a target cell, the UE 102 may store one or more RSs reported in the beam report.

[0101] In some aspects, if the beam report is for a serving cell, a PCell / SCell, or a source cell, the UE 102 stores one or more RSs reported in the beam report. If the beam report is for an LTM candidate cell or a target cell, the UE 102 may not store one or more RSs reported in the beam report.

[0102] In some aspects, if the beam report is for a serving cell, a PCell / SCell, or a source cell, the UE 102 does not indicate the stored RS reported in the beam report if stored. If the beam report is for an LTM candidate cell or a target cell, the UE 102 may indicate one or more stored RSs reported in the beam report if stored. In some cases, if the beam report is for a serving cell, a PCell / SCell, or a source cell, the UE 102 (only) stores the reported RS with a best or a largest measurement quality (e.g., an L1-RSRP) .

[0103] In some aspects, the UE 102 reports to the network entity 104 different UE capabilities on a maximum number of stored reported RSs for a QCL property and a maximum number of stored reported RSs for L3-RSRP. In some cases, the maximum number of stored reported RS for the QCL property is not larger than 8. In some cases, the maximum number of stored reported RS for the L3-RSRP is not larger than 4.

[0104] In some aspects, the UE 102 (only) stores one or a subset of the following QCL properties for storing reported RSs from the beam report: a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, or an average delay, a delay spread, or a spatial reception (Rx) parameter.

[0105] In some aspects, a stored QCL property for one or multiple of the stored reported RSs is predefined or configured by the network entity 104, reported by the UE 102, or determined by an RS configuration. In one example, the UE 102 stores the Doppler shift, the average delay, and / or the spatial Rx parameter for at least one stored reported RS. In another example, if the stored reported RS is an SSB, the UE 102 stores a spatial Rx parameter and at least one of the following parameters: a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread. In another example, if the stored reported RS is a CSI-RS or a CSI-RS that is not QCLed with any SSB, the UE 102 stores the spatial Rx parameter.

[0106] In some aspects, if the UE 102 has stored a spatial Rx parameter for an RS, when the TCI activation is based on the RS or another RS QCLed with the RS, the UE 102 determines that TL1-RSRP is 0. If the UE 102 has stored a Doppler shift, an average delay, a Doppler spread, and / or delay spread for an RS, when the TCI activation is based on the RS or another RS QCLed with the RS, the UE 102 determines that Tfirst-SSB and TSSB-proc are 0.

[0156] The specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts disclosed herein is an illustration of example approaches. Hence, the specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts may be rearranged. Some blocks may also be combined or deleted. Dashed lines may indicate optional elements of the diagrams. The accompanying method claims present elements of the various blocks in an example order, and are not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented in the claims, processes, and flowcharts.

[0157] The detailed description set forth herein describes various configurations in connection with the drawings and does not represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough explanation of various concepts. However, these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring such concepts.

[0158] Aspects of wireless communication systems, such as telecommunication systems, are presented with reference to various apparatuses and methods. These apparatuses and methods are described in the following detailed description and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, call flows, systems, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or combinations thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0159] An element, or any portion of an element, or any combination of elements may be implemented as a “processing system” that includes one or more processors. Examples of processors include microprocessors, microcontrollers, graphics processing units (GPUs) , central processing units (CPUs) , application processors, digital signal processors (DSPs) , reduced instruction set computing (RISC) processors, systems-on-chip (SoC) , baseband processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , programmable logic devices (PLDs) , state machines, gated logic, discrete hardware circuits, and other similar hardware configured to perform the various functionality described throughout this disclosure. One or more processors in the processing system may execute software, which may be referred to as software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description language, or otherwise. Software shall be construed broadly to mean instructions, instruction sets, code, code segments, program code, programs, subprograms, software components, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executables, threads of execution, procedures, functions, or any combination thereof.

[0160] If the functionality described herein is implemented in software, the functions may be stored on, or encoded as, one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium, such as a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. Computer-readable media includes computer storage media and can include a random-access memory (RAM) , a read-only memory (ROM) , an electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM) , optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage, other magnetic storage devices, combinations of these types of computer-readable media, or any other medium that can be used to store computer executable code in the form of instructions or data structures that can be accessed by a computer. Storage media may be any available media that can be accessed by a computer.

[0161] Aspects, implementations, and / or use cases described herein may be implemented across many differing platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes, and packaging arrangements. For example, the aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may come about via integrated chip implementations and other non-module-component based devices, such as end-user devices, vehicles, communication devices, computing devices, industrial equipment, retail / purchasing devices, medical devices, artificial intelligence (AI) -enabled devices, machine learning (ML) -enabled devices, etc. The aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may range from chip-level or modular components to non-modular or non-chip-level implementations, and further to aggregate, distributed, or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices or systems incorporating one or more techniques described herein.

[0162] Devices incorporating the aspects and features described herein may also include additional components and features for the implementation and practice of the claimed and described aspects and features. For example, transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily includes a number of components for analog and digital purposes, such as hardware components, antennas, RF-chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processor (s) , interleavers, adders / summers, etc. Techniques described herein may be practiced in a wide variety of devices, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc., of varying configurations.

[0163] The description herein is provided to enable a person skilled in the art to practice the various aspects described herein. Various modifications to these aspects will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other aspects. Thus, the claims are not limited to the aspects described herein, but are to be interpreted in view of the full scope of the present disclosure consistent with the language of the claims.

[0164] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may” , “might” , and “can” , as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “can” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0165] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C” include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C, or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets should be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more. Terms or articles such as “a” , “an” , and / or “the” may refer to one of an item, feature, element, etc., that the term or article precedes, or may refer to more than one of said item, feature, element, etc. that the term or article precedes. For example, the recitation “a widget” does not preclude reference to multiples of said widget, as “multiple widgets” necessarily includes “awidget” . Hence, the recitation “a widget” may be interpreted as “at least one widget” or, similarly, interpreted as “one or more widgets” .

[0166] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term.

[0167] Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Hence, like numbers may refer to like actions.

[0168] Structural and functional equivalents to elements of the various aspects described throughout this disclosure that are known or later come to be known to those of ordinary skill in the art are expressly incorporated herein by reference and are encompassed by the claims. The words “module, ” “mechanism, ” “element, ” “device, ” and the like may not be a substitute for the word “means. ” As such, no claim element is to be construed as a means plus function unless the element is expressly recited using the phrase “means for. ” As used herein, the phrase “based on” shall not be construed as a reference to a closed set of information, one or more conditions, one or more factors, or the like. In other words, the phrase “based on A” , where “A” may be information, a condition, a factor, or the like, shall be construed as “based at least on A” unless specifically recited differently.
