[0086] FIG. 1A illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1A, the communication network 100 may include terminal device 110, network devices 128-1 and 128-2. In some embodiments, the network device 128-1 may be a LCS, and the network device 128-2 may be an AF. The communication network 100 may also include next generation radio access node (NG-RAN) 120, an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) 122, a location management function (LMF) 124, a gateway mobile location center (GMLC)  / routing function (RF) 126.

[0087] It is to be understood that the number of network devices, terminal devices and other nodes is only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The system 100 may include any suitable number of network devices, terminal devices and other nodes adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0088] In some embodiments, a network function (e.g., AMF or AF) may refer to a network device comprising the network function. The network device comprises the network function means that the network function performs and / or is configured to perform at least part of functionalities of the network function.

[0089] Communications in the communication system 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) and the sixth generation (6G) and on the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0090] MUSIM UE was introduced in 3GPP release 17, which has more than one USIM and is able to maintain separate registration state with a public land mobile network (PLMN) for each USIM over 3GPP access. Based on the pre-configured user preference and operator policy, the MUSIM UE can autonomously switch USIMs for different services while the network can coordinate the service delivery for each USIM.

[0091] In addition, the emergency services (e.g., voice calls and SMS) will trigger positioning services. Periodic location reporting session will continue even after emergency call or the transmission of short message have finished. For MUSIM UEs, SIM card switching may interrupt services and ongoing measurements associated with the current USIM.

[0092] FIG. 1B illustrates the interrupted positioning services during USIM switching. As shown in FIG. 1B, at step 101, the UE 110 initiates an emergency voice call while USIM A is active and connected to the network of Operator A. During the emergency call, the network triggers a 5G positioning service to periodically report the UE's location to the public safety answering point (PSAP) 130 to assist emergency responders. The positioning session sends periodic location updates to PSAP. Specifically, the external client (PSAP) transmits a LCS service request to GMLC / RF 126. At step 103, the GMLC / RF 126 transmits a Namf_Location_ProvidePositionInfo request to AMF 122. At step 105, the UE positioning is performed. At step 107, the AMF 122 transmits a Namf_Location_ProvidePositionInfo response to the GMLC / RF 126. At step 109, the GMLC / RF 126 transmits an LCS service response to external client (PSAP) 130.

[0093] When emergency service (e.g. voice call, SMS) is initiated, the location service such as periodic location reporting will be triggered as well. After the emergency service finished, the MUSIM switch is performed at step 111. Specifically, the MUSIM UE 110 may autonomously switch from USIM A to USIM B based on the pre-configured user preference and operator policy Without proper handling, USIM switchover disrupts the ongoing positioning session and results in location data lost and inconsistent data update to PSAP 130. At step 113, after an emergency call ends, the positioning service may continue periodic location update for a predefined duration to ensure responders can track the UE 110 until the situation is resolved. Without seamless handover of positioning sessions between USIMs, periodic location update to PSAP 130 cannot continue. As a result, the periodic location update is failed.

[0094] However, the 5G system needs to support service continuity of 5G positioning services for a MUSIM UE when the UE switches the active USIM for other services (e.g. voice call) . So it is important and necessary to support positioning service continuity for MUSIM UE to ensure uninterrupted positioning services during USIM switching.

[0095] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, there are provided apparatuses and methods to overcome those issues mentioned above and ensure uninterrupted positioning services during USIM switching in MUSIM UEs. Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0096] FIG. 2A illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example of process for a positioning service for MUSIM switching according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200A will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200A may involve the terminal device 110, the network device 128 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 200A for link has been described in the communication system 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed.

[0097] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 performs a switch from a first USIM to a second USIM (step 202) . At step 204, the terminal device 110 transmits the information associated with the switch based on that a location service associated with the first USIM remains triggered or is ongoing during the switch to the network device 128. At step 206, The network device 128 causes the location service to be triggered using the second USIM based on that the location service associated with the first USIM remains triggered or is ongoing. At step 208, the terminal device 110 performs the location service using the second USIM.

[0098] Based on the process 200A, the continuity of the location services of MUSIM terminal device ongoing location services can be ensured without being interrupted due to a switch / swap of USIMs. The performance of communications with the MUSIM terminal device is increased, therefore.

[0099] FIG. 2B illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example of a process 200B for a positioning service for MUSIM switching according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200B will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200B may involve the terminal device 110, the network device 128 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 200B for link has been described in the communication system 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed.

[0100] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 receives a request of triggering the location service using information of a first USIM of the terminal device (212) . At 214, the terminal device 110 establishes 214 a first secure user plane connection with the network device 128 based on the request and the information of the first USIM. At 216, the terminal device 110 acquires 216 location information of the terminal device using the first USIM. At 218, the terminal device 110 transmits to the network device via the first secure user plane function, an event report comprising the location information.

[0101] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 performs a switch from the first USIM to a second USIM (220) . At 222, the terminal device 110 transmits the information associated with the switch based on that a location service associated with the first USIM remains triggered or ongoing during the switch to the network device 128. At 224, the network device 128 causes the location service to be triggered using the second USIM base on that the location service associated with the first USIM remains triggered or remains / is ongoing. At 226, the terminal device 110 performs the location service using the second USIM.

[0102] Based on the process 200B, the problem that the ongoing location services of a MUSIM terminal device may be interrupted due to a switch of USIMs can be avoided. The location service continuity of the MUSIM terminal device therefore can be secured.

[0103] FIG. 3 illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example of a process 300 for a positioning service for MUSIM switching according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110, the network device 128-1 as a LCS client, the network device 128-2 as an AF as illustrated in FIG. 1A. The process 300 may involve the NG-RAN 120, the AMF 122, the UPF 302, the LMF 126. It would be appreciated that although the process 300 has been described in the communication system 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed.

[0104] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 receives a request of triggering the location service using information of the first USIM. As shown in FIG. 3, at 301, the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 includes a request for user plane reporting in the LCS Service Request and may include a user plane address of the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 and security information to enable a secure connection. The H-GMLC verifies that both the target USIM and the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 are subscribed to user plane reporting. If the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 did not include a user plane address or security information, the H-GMLC obtains a default user plane address and / or default security information from subscription data for the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2. With this step, the target USIM indicates to the LMF whether event reporting via user plane can be supported by the target USIM.

[0105] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 establishes based on the request and the information of the first USIM, a first secure user plane connection with the network device. As shown in FIG. 3, at 303, the terminal device 110 establish secure TCP / IP connection from the terminal device 110 to LCS client 128-1 or AF 128-2. In some embodiments, the secure user plane connection is established using transport layer security (TLS) or protocol for N32 interconnect security (PRINS) . Specifically, the terminal device 110 establishes a secure user plane connection with TLS or PRINS to the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 using the user plane address, and the security information received at 301.

[0106] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG 3, at 305, the terminal device 110 performs the location determination. Specifically, the terminal device 110 acquires location measurements and determines a current location. And the terminal device 110 transmits to the network device via the first secure user plane function, an event report comprising the location information. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 sends an Event Report to the LCS Client 128-1 at 307 or sends an Event Report to the AF 128-2 over the secure user plane connection established at 309. The event report indicates the type of event being reported and includes the location determined at 305. The LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 may return an Event Report Acknowledgment to the terminal device 110 over the secure user plane with TLS connection established at 311 or 313.

[0107] In some embodiments, the event report is transmitted to the network device based on a detected trigger or a periodic event. Specifically, the terminal device 110 continues to monitor for and detect further trigger or periodic events as at step 305 and repeats steps 307 or 309 for each detected trigger or periodic event.

[0108] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 3, at 315, the terminal device 110 switches / swaps the USIM. Then terminal device 110 sends a Switch Event to the LCS Client or AF over the secure user plane connection established at 317. The event report indicates the type of event being reported and includes the original USIM information and target USIM information.

[0109] In some embodiments, the information associated with the switch comprises at least one of a switch scenario identity (ID) , location information for the first USIM, location information for the second USIM, a target address of the network device, an ID of the terminal device for the first USIM, or an ID of the terminal device for the second USIM. The switch scenario ID indicates an emergency call, a public safety answering point (PSAP) call back, or an emergency short message service (SMS) .

[0110] In some embodiments, a (new) message for the event report is defined as below: Nlmf_Location_Switch service operation · Operation name: Nlmf_Location_Switch · Description: Allow the consumer UE to Notify about the following Switch  information to a target NF. · Input, Required: Target Address, Notification Correlation ID, Old UE identifier  (SUPI and if available GPSI) , New UE identifier (SUPI and if available GPSI) . · Input, Optional: None. · Outputs, Required: Subscription Correlation ID. status · Outputs, Optional: None.

[0111] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 receives from the network device an acknowledgement of receiving the information associated with the switch. And the switch from the first USIM to the second USIM is completed after receiving the acknowledgement Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 may return an Event Report Acknowledgment to the terminal device 110 over the secure user plane with TLS connection established at 321 or 323 and notify the terminal device 110 the readiness to complete continuous positioning service.

[0112] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 3, at 325, the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 may repeat step 301 and include a request for user plane reporting in the LCS Service Request and a user plane address of the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 and security information to enable a secure connection with / using target USIM information. At 327, the terminal device 110 establishes a secure user plane connection with TLS or PRINS to the LCS Client 128-1 or AF 128-2 using the user plane address, and the security information received at 325. In 325 and 327, the original location subscription flow is reused to retrigger the positioning service with the target USIM, to ensure the positioning service continuity in the network.

[0113] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 3, at 331, the terminal device 110 acquires location measurements and determines the current location. The terminal device 110 sends an Event Report to the LCS Client 128-1 at 333 or sends an Event Report to the AF 128-2 at 335 over the secure user plane connection established at 327. The event report indicates the type of event being reported and includes the location determined at 331. At 337 / 339, the LCS Client 128-1 / AF 128-2 may return an Event Report Acknowledgment to the terminal device 110 over the secure user plane with TLS connection established at 327. The terminal device 110 continues to monitor and detect further trigger or periodic events as at 331 and repeats 333 or 335 for each detected trigger or periodic event.

[0114] In view of the above description of the various embodiments of the present disclosure, these embodiments of the present disclosure provide the advantage of introducing a new UE Switch Event to notify LCS that the UE is preparing / trigger for a switch / swap of the USIM. The LCS / AF may trigger a new periodic location report for the target USIM to keep / secure the positioning service continuity. And a service operation Nlmf_Location_Switch for USIM switching is introduced.

[0115] FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example of detail process for positioning service continuity analysis for MUSIM switching according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0116] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 4, the management service (MnS) consumer 401 sends positioning service continuity for MUSIM (POSMUSIM) analysis request. Specifically, at 410, the MnS Consumer 401 sends Nnwdaf_AnalyticInfo_Request / Nnwdaf_AnalyticsSubscription_Subscribe with POSMUSIM_Analytic as the type of analytics to network data analytics function (NWDAF) MnS producer 403. The MnS consumer 401 requests the NWDAF MnS producer 403 to create analytic Request Type: POSMUSIM_Analytic to trigger Positioning Service Continuity for MUSIM intelligent analysis. The POSMUSIM_Analytic Information Element (e.g., information Object class or data Type) includes the following attributes in Table 1. Table 1 POSMUSIM_Analytic:

[0117] In some embodiments, the NWDAF MnS Producer 403 checks the analytic Request Type (POSMUSIM_Analytic) , and triggers data collection from the NFs for this analytics type, to collect data based on scenario schema context.

[0118] Different use cases or application scenarios (e.g., emergency call, PSAP callback) are modeled as a context for the input of analytics. Depending on scenarios, the analysis report and recommended actions from the analytics may be different. Specifically, at 412, the Data collection from LCS (e.g., Current Dispatchable Location, Current Geographic Location, MSISDN, SUPI / IMEI, …, etc. ) is performed. At 414, the Data collection from UE (e.g., Location Info, Network and Cell Information, User Consent and Privacy Settings, Timestamp and Periodicity Information, …, etc. ) is performed. And the Data collection from UDM / HSS (e.g., LCS Subscription Data: LCS Client ID, LCS Client Type, Location Accuracy, Positioning Methods, QoS, Area of Applicability, …, etc. ; and / or Routing Information: Servicing node, Serving Cell and Tracking Area Information, GMLC address, LMF address, Emergency Routing Information, …, etc. ) is performed at 416.

[0119] In some embodiments, after the real time data collection, at 418, the NWDAF MnS Producer 403 triggers POSMUSIM_Analysis to get POSMUSIM_Analysis_Report with OrigSIM_LocInfo, TargetSIM_LocInfo, …, etc. Then, at 420, NWDAF MnS Producer 403 sends, to the LCS 128, the Nnwdaf_AnalyticInfo_Response / Nnwdaf_AnalyticsSubscription_Notify with POSMUSIM_Analysis_Report: AnalysisId, SwitchLocInfo (e.g., OrigSIM_LocInfo, TargetSIM_LocInfo and ScenarioId, ..., etc. ) , RecommendLocInfo, ..., etc. At 422, the LCS 128 updates MUSIM location information of the UE 110 based on the POSMUSIM_Analysis_Report (e.g., RecommendLocInfo) . Note that the RecommendLocInfo transmitted to the LCS 128 may not comprise recommendLcsAddr related information.

[0120] In some embodiments, at 424, the NWDAF MnS Producer 403 sends the Nnwdaf_AnalyticInfo_Response / Nnwdaf_AnalyticsSubscription_Notify response to MnS consumer 401 with POSMUSIM_Analysis_Report: AnalysisId, SwitchLocInfo (e.g., OrigSIM_LocInfo, TargetSIM_LocInfo and ScenarioId, ..., etc. ) , RecommendLocInfo, ..., etc.

[0121] In some embodiments, the detailed information of the analysis report can be refered to the following Table 2. Table 2 POSMUSIM_Analysis _Report:

[0122] In some embodiments, the SwitchLocInfo refers to the following Table 3. Table 3 SwitchLocInfo:

[0123] In the above tables, Support Qualifier indicates whether corresponding attributes are mandatory (represented by “M” ) or optional (represented by “O” ) .

[0124] In view of the above description of the various embodiments of the present disclosure, these embodiments of the present disclosure provide the advantage of providing positioning service continuity analysis for MUSIM switching based on real time scenarios. The NWDAF / AIML MnS producer can indicate the need for MUSIM UE data collection for the specified predicted USIM Switch scenarios. The NWDAF / AIML MnS producer provides a new analytics type, which can provide “Intelligent Analysis of POSMUSIM UE” . It also provides an intelligent analysis of positioning service continuity for MUSIM UE during the automatic switch of USIMs

[0125] FIG. 5 shows a flowchart of an example method 500 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 500 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 with reference to FIG. 1A.

[0126] At block 510, the terminal device 110 performs a switch from a first USIM of the terminal device to a second USIM of the terminal device. At block 520, the terminal device 110 transmits, to a network device, information associated with the switch based on that a location service associated with the first USIM remains triggered or ongoing during the switch. At block 530, the terminal device 110 performs the location service using the second USIM.

[0127] In some embodiments, the information associated with the switch comprises at least one of the following: a switch scenario identity (ID) ; location information for the first USIM; location information for the second USIM; a target address of the network device; an ID of the terminal device for the first USIM; or an ID of the terminal device for the second USIM. The switch scenario ID indicates at least one of the following: an emergency call; a public safety answering point (PSAP) call back; or an emergency short message service (SMS) . The terminal device 110 receives, from the network device, an acknowledgement of receiving the information associated with the switch. The switch from the first USIM to the second USIM is completed after receiving the acknowledgement. In some embodiments, the acknowledgement for the event report of the switch comprises a status for the switch scenario ID.

[0128] In some embodiments, the location service comprises at least one of a location measurement service or a positioning service.

[0129] In some embodiment, the terminal device 110 performs the location service using the first USIM before performing the switch. For example, the terminal device 110 receives a request of triggering the location service using information of the first USIM. Based on the request, the terminal device 110 establishes, based on the request and the information of the first USIM, a first secure user plane connection with the network device, acquires location information of the terminal device using the first USIM, and transmits, to the network device via the first secure user plane function, an event report comprising the location information. Note that the information associated with the switch may be transmitted to the network device via the first secure user plane connection. In addition, because the transmission of the event report may be event triggered or periodic, the transmission of the event report may not occur before the switch is performed.

[0130] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 performs the location service using the second USIM by receiving, from the network device, a request of triggering the location service using information of the second USIM, establishing, based on the request and the information of the second USIM, a second secure user plane connection with the network device, acquiring location information of the terminal device using the second USIM, and transmitting, to the network device via the second secure user plane connection, an event report comprising the location information for the location service. The event report comprises at least one of the following: a type of event being reported; or a determined location. The secure user plane connection is established using TLS or PRINS. The event report is transmitted to the network device based on at least one of the following: a detected trigger; or a periodic event.

[0131] In some embodiments, the network device comprises at least one of following: a LCS client; or an AF.

[0132] FIG. 6 shows a flowchart of an example method 600 implemented at a network device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the network device 128 with reference to FIG. 1A.
