SEARCHERS FOR MEASUREMENTFIELD

[0001] Various example embodiments relate to the field of communication and in particular, to devices, methods, apparatuses and a computer readable storage medium for searchers for measurement.BACKGROUND

[0002] A communication network can be seen as a facility that enables communications between two or more communication devices, or provides communication devices access to a data network. A mobile or wireless communication network is one example of a communication network.

[0003] Such communication networks operate in accordance with standards, such as those promulgated by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) or ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) . Examples of such standards include the so-called 5G (5th Generation) standard or other standards promulgated by 3GPP.SUMMARY

[0004] In general, example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for searchers for measurement. With this solution, the terminal device can use three searchers and reduce the measurement delay, thereby improving the performance of communication with the searchers.

[0005] In a first aspect, there is provided a terminal device. The terminal device comprises at least one processor and at least one memory storing instructions. The instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the terminal device at least to receive, from a network device, an indication for using three searchers for measurement, wherein a searcher is for detecting a reference signal. The terminal device is further caused to perform the measurement with the three searchers and a carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) . The CSSF is determined by one of the following: determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to two, wherein a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to 1 /  (1 /  (2* (Nc-1) )+ (1 /  (Nc-1) ) ) , wherein Nc is a number of secondary carriers; determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to 1 /  (1 / 2+1 / Nc) , wherein a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to 1 /  (1 /  (2* (Nc-1) ) +1 / Nc) ; determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to one, wherein a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to Nc-1; or determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to 0.5*Nc, wherein a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to 0.5*Nc.

[0035] As used herein, the term “network device” and “access network device” refer to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device accesses the network and receives services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , a NR NB (also referred to as a gNB) , a transmission reception point (TRP) , a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a relay, a low power node such as a femto, a pico, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology.

[0036] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0037] FIG. 1A illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1A, the communication network 100 may include terminal device 110, network device 120.

[0038] It is to be understood that the number of network devices and terminal devices is only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The system 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and terminal devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0039] Communications in the communication system 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) and the sixth generation (6G) and on the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0040] In the 5G networks, one object is frequency range 2-1 (FR2-1) synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel (SSB) based L3 measurement delay reduction. The CSSF optimization is to be considered for UE not in multiple-Rx simultaneous reception mode. Specifically, CSSF values are derived to scale the measurement delay requirements when UE is configured to monitor multiple measurement objects in new radio (NR) carrier aggregation (CA) or Multi-RAT dual connectivity (MR-DC) scenarios. Taking NR CA as example, the CSSF values for SCC are determined based on the number of configured SCells e.g. NSCC_SSB, NSCC_CSI-RS. And the number of searchers of UE is increased from two to three for the measurement. In general, a searcher can be one or more components of a UE for detecting a reference signal. For example, such one or more components may include one or more hardware components of the UE, one or more software components of the UE, or both one or more hardware components and one or more software components of the UE. For instance, the one or more hardware components may include one or more transceivers, one or more antennas, one or more processing circuits, or the like. For instance, the one or more software components may include software, instructions, codes or the like for searching a reference signal or other signals.

[0041] FIG. 1B shows an example of how measurements are performed in a CA scenario with one PCC in FR1 and two SCCs in FR2. The measurement delay requirements for measurements outside gaps are assuming 1 searcher available for PCC and the other i.e. the 2nd searcher available for all configured SCCs. So there are two searchers used for L3 measurements. One searcher is used for PCC and the other searcher is used for the measurements on all SCCs. As the 2nd searcher is shared among the measurements on all SCCs, the measurement time will be scaled by the number of SCCs.

[0042] When three searchers are considered, the solution for distributing the three searchers among the cells to be measured needs to be introduced. This will determine how the CSSF values are derived based on three searchers. Then the CSSF for outside gap measurements can be reduced by utilizing the potential available 3rd searcher available at the UE. For specific CA configurations and if UE capabilities allows it, the measurement delay requirements will require UEs to be equipped with three searchers capable of parallel measurements.

[0043] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution to perform the measurement with three searchers and associated CSSF. Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0044] FIG. 2 illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example of process for measurements performed with three searchers according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 110, the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 200 for link has been described in the communication system 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed.

[0045] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 receives from the network device 120 an indication 202 for using three searchers for measurement. And the terminal device 110 perform 204 the measurement with the three searchers and a CSSF. One of the following options determines the CSSF. The first option is determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to two, a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to 1 /  (1 /  (2* (Nc-1) )+ (1 /  (Nc-1) ) ) . Nc is a number of secondary carriers. The second option is determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to 1 /  (1 / 2+1 / Nc) , a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to 1 /  (1 /  (2* (Nc-1) ) +1 / Nc) . The third option is determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to one, a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to Nc-1. The fourth option is determining that a first CSSF for a secondary carrier is equal to 0.5*Nc, a neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, and determining that a second CSSF for a rest of secondary carriers is equal to 0.5*Nc.

[0046] With the solution of the process, the solution for measurement with three searchers and associated CSSF is provided, thereby improving the performance of communication with three searchers.

[0047] FIG. 3 illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example of detail process for measurements performed with 3 searchers according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110, the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 300 for link has been described in the communication system 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed.

[0048] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 transmits to the network device 120, capability information 302 of using the three searchers for the measurement. And the capability information of using the three searchers for the measurement indicates the measurement of using the three searchers is not supported, or indicates the measurement of using the three searchers is supported, and at most two searchers are supported for the measurement in FR2, or indicates the measurement of using the three searchers is supported, and at most three searchers are supported for the measurement in FR2. Then the terminal device 110 receives the request 304 for using the three searchers for measurements. Then at 306, the terminal device 110 activates the three searchers and perform measurements with a delay scaled by the updated CSSF.

[0049] FIG. 4 illustrates an example of searcher allocation according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, a first searcher of the three searchers is for the measurement of a primary cell. Specifically, among the three searchers, it is assumed that one searcher is dedicated used for the PCC measurement to ensure the PCC measurement performance. For example, the first searcher is dedicated used for the PCC measurement. And there are the second searcher and third searcher for SCC measurements. As shown in FIG. 4, the PCC is allocated a full searcher (marked in black) , allowing measurements in each occasion.

[0050] In some embodiments, the second searcher (marked in light grey) is allocated 50%to the FR2 SCC where neighbor cell measurement is required, and the additional 50%is shared between the additional SCCs i.e. FR1 SCC and FR2 SCC. In this example, there are additional two SCCs that each are allocated 25%of the second searcher. Then the third searcher is added on top of usage of the two searchers to determine the CSSF values. And how the searchers are to be used can be indicated as UE capability or by network indication, or defined as a default assumption.

[0051] In some embodiments, the secondary carriers except the secondary carrier of frequency range 2 (FR2) , where neighbour cell measurement is required, share a third searcher of the three searchers for the measurement. For example, this option is called solution 0. Specifically, the allocation of the third searcher is shared evenly between all configured SCCs where no neighbour cell measurements are required. As shown in FIG. 4, the two SCCs with no NC measurements gets additional searcher allocation as illustrated with the grey color. For each legacy measurement (in light grey) , additional two measurements are possible with the third searcher. In this solution, the allocation ratios of searchers for FR1 PCC is 1, for FR1 SCC is 25%+ 50%, and for FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurement is 50%, and for FR2 SCC w / o neighbor cell measurement is 25%+ 50%. The following Table 1 shows the associated CSSF for the solution 0. Table 1

[0052] In some embodiments, the secondary carriers share a third searcher of the three searchers for the measurement. For example, this option is called solution 1. Specifically, the allocation of the third searcher is shared evenly between all configured SCCs. As shown in FIG. 4, it means sharing between the three SCCs configured (1 FR1 + 2 FR2) , hence each configured SCC will be allocated the third searcher every third SMTC occasion. So for the shown period of 12 SMTC occasions each SCC will be allocated the third searcher during four SMTC occasions. In this solution, the allocation ratios of searchers for FR1 PCC is 1, for FR1 / FR2 SCC without neighbor cell measurement is 25%+ 33%, for FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurement is 50%+ 33%. The following Table 2 shows the associated CSSF for the solution 1. Table 2

[0053] In some embodiments, a third searcher of the three searcher is for the measurement of the secondary FR2 carrier, with neighbor cell measurement, firstly, and the third searcher is for a rest of the secondary carriers secondly. For example, the option is called solution 2. Specifically, the allocation of the third searcher is shared by first allocating it for the SCC where neighbor cell measurements are required. For the shown example that means for the 6 SMTC occasion not already covered by legacy requirements. The additional time the third searcher is evenly shared between the additional SCCs, in the example that means three SMTC occasions for each of the additional SCCs. With this solution the SCC where neighbor cell measurements are required will have a searcher allocated in each SMTC occasion. In this solution, the allocation ratios of searchers for FR1 PCC is 1, for FR1 SCC is 25%+ 25%, for FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurement is 50%+ 50%, for FR2 SCC w / o neighbor cell measurement is 25%+ 25%. The following Table 3 shows the associated CSSF for the solution 2.

[0054] In addition, following Table 4 is showing example of the achievable value of CSSF for the 3 solutions presented. For solution 0 the reduction of CSSF is between 0 and 67%, for solution 1 the reduction of CSSF is between 40 to 57 %, whereas for solution 2 the reduction is 50%for all types of SCC. In any case the reduction seems to be significant. Table 4

[0055] In some embodiments, both the second searcher and the third searcher can be allocated for all SCCs for measurements. And the searchers are to be used can be indicated as UE capability or by network, or defined as a default assumption.

[0056] In some embodiments, the secondary carriers except the secondary carrier of frequency range 2 (FR2) share a second searcher and a third searcher of the three searchers for the measurement, and the neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier of FR2. The allocation ratios of searchers for FR1 PCC is 1, for FR1 SCC is (2-X%)  / 2, for FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurement is X%, for FR2 SCC w / o neighbor cell measurement is (2-X%)  / 2. The X is the allocation of the two searchers for the FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurements.

[0057] In some embodiments, the secondary carriers share a second searcher or a third searcher of the three searchers for the measurement. And the allocation ratios of searchers for FR1 PCC is 1, for FR1 SCC is 33%*2, for FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurement is 33%*2, for FR2 SCC w / o neighbor cell measurement is 33%*2. The following Table 5 shows the associated CSSF for this solution. Table 5

[0058] In some embodiments, a second searcher and a third searcher of the three searcher is for the measurement of the secondary carrier firstly, and the neighbor cell measurement is required in the secondary carrier, the second searcher and the third searcher is for a rest of the secondary carriers secondly. And the allocation ratios of searchers for FR1 PCC is 1, for FR1 SCC is 50%, for FR2 SCC with neighbor cell measurement is 1, for FR2 SCC w / o neighbor cell measurement is 50%. The associated CSSF for this solution is same as the values in Table 3.
