Description

Radio Resource Measurement PrioritizationTECHNOLOGICAL FIELD

[0001] Various example embodiments relate to wireless communication networks, in particular to measurements relating to radio resources in such networks.BACKGROUND

[0002] In wireless communication networks, measurements relating to, e.g., cells, carriers or beams serve various purposes such as, e.g., evaluating radio channel conditions, supporting mobility management, optimizing radio resource allocation, or facilitating beamforming or handovers, thereby ensuring an efficient and reliable communication between the wireless communication network and a user equipment (UE) . Examples of wireless communication networks comprise cellular networks such as networks operating according to Long Term Evolution (LTE) , 5G or 6G radio access technology. 5G radio access technology may also be referred to as New Radio (NR) access technology. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project, 3GPP, develops standards for LTE, 5G / NR and 6G. One of the topics discussed within 3GPP is how to further enhance measurements in various scenarios. SUMMARY OF SOME EXAMPLE EMBODIMENTS

[0003] Cellular networks, e.g. using 5G radio access technology, may support measurements relating to various radio resources (e.g., cells, carriers or beams) based on respective reference signals associated with said radio resources, at different layers of the protocol stack. A measurement delay (or measurement period) of a measurement relating to a specific radio resource may depend on multiple factors such as, e.g., a number of radio resources a particular user equipment (UE) is configured to measure. For example, when a UE measures multiple radio resources (e.g., cells, carriers and / or beams) simultaneously, available measurement occasions may be overlapping such that the UE may not measure a specific radio resource (e.g., cell, carrier or beam) on every available measurement occasion. In other words, the UE may have to alternate measurements on the cells, carriers and / or beams such that a measurement delay of a respective measurement of a specific cell, carrier or beam may scale depending on a number of measured cells, carriers and / or beams. This may result in relatively long measurement delays (e.g., for relatively large numbers of radio resources) . In addition, the network may not be aware which radio resources are measured at which time instance.

[0004] In some scenarios, however, it may be desirable to obtain a measurement report for a particular radio resource based on corresponding measurements relatively fast, or at least within a predictable time period, e.g. for mobility or carrier aggregation (CA) purposes. As an example, for Frequency Range 1 (FR1) and Frequency Range 2 (FR2) CA, it may be beneficial for a UE to send a measurement report, e.g., for a newly configured FR2 carrier and / or an added Secondary Cell (SCell) as soon as possible, such that the information about the available cells and channel conditions is available to the network as soon as possible, thereby facilitating scheduling the UE on the SCell.

[0005] To this end, a number of radio resources to be measured (which may be referred to as measurement targets) may be reduced, for example by de-configuring measurements on some radio resources.

[0006] However, configuring and / or de-configuring measurement targets may consume additional time, thereby adding delay, and may further require additional signaling, thus causing additional signaling overhead. In addition, removing and re-adding measurement targets may result in the UE losing at least part of measurement information relating to the respective measurement targets, for example a timing synchronization with a de-configured cell. As a result, a UE may for example need to re-detect and re-measure a de-configured carrier or cell when measurements relating to the de-configured carrier or cell are again requested by the network, thereby further increasing delay. Further, reconfiguring measurements is resource-intensive on the network side and processing the configuration is resource-intensive on the UE side.

[0007] Therefore, there is a need to obtain a measurement report for a particular radio resource in a faster manner while reducing additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements as far as possible.

[0008] In view of this, certain embodiments of the disclosure may allow for performing measurements relating to one or more radio resources (e.g., cells, carriers or beams) in a faster manner while reducing as far as possible additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements, e.g. due to de-configuring and re-configuring measurements on some other radio resources.

[0009] According to a first example aspect, there is disclosed an apparatus. The apparatus may comprise at least one processor. The apparatus may further comprise at least one memory storing instructions. The instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, may cause the apparatus to perform determining at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among a plurality of radio resources associated with the apparatus. The instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, may further cause the apparatus to perform performing one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0010] The apparatus according to the first example aspect may be or may comprise a user equipment (UE) .

[0011] According to a second example aspect, there is disclosed an apparatus. The apparatus may comprise at least one processor. The apparatus may further comprise at least one memory storing instructions. The instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, may cause the apparatus to perform transmitting, to a user device, at least one of: an indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource; or a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to a plurality of radio resources associated with the user device, wherein the at least one radio resource may be determinable as at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource based on the message.

[0012] The apparatus according to the second example aspect may be or may comprise a network node such as, e.g., a Radio Access Network (RAN) node. In example embodiments, the user device is a or comprises a user equipment, in particular a terminal device, as further described herein.

[0013] According to each of the example aspects, a respective method is also disclosed.

[0014] Thus, according to the first example aspect, there is disclosed a method performed by an apparatus. The method may comprise determining at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among a plurality of radio resources associated with the apparatus. The method may further comprise performing one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0015] The apparatus by which the method according to the first example aspect is performed may be or may comprise a user equipment (UE) .

[0016] According to the second example aspect, there is disclosed a method performed by an apparatus. The method may comprise transmitting, to a user device, at least one of: an indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource; or a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to a plurality of radio resources associated with the user device, wherein the at least one radio resource may be determinable as at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource based on the message.

[0017] The apparatus by which the method according to the second example aspect is performed may be or may comprise a network node such as, e.g., a RAN node.

[0018] Any of the disclosed devices (e.g., the apparatus according to any of the described example aspects) may be a stationary device or a mobile device. A user equipment may in particular be a terminal device, e.g. a mobile device such as a smartphone, a tablet, a wearable, a smartwatch, a low power device, an IoT device, an IIoT device, a vehicle, a truck, a drone, an airplane, or the like. A user equipment may in particular be capable of communicating with (transmitting and / or receiving signals and / or data to / from) one or more other user equipments and / or with one or more network nodes, such as a base station of a wireless communication network. Generally, a user equipment may be any device enabled for communication with a wireless communication network and / or with another user equipment.

[0019] A network node may be understood as a wireless communication station installed at a fixed or mobile location and may in particular be or comprise an entity of a radio access network of a wireless communication system. For instance, a network node may be, comprise, or be part of a base station of a wireless communication network of any generation (e.g. a gNB, eNodeB, NodeB, BTS or the like) of a 3GPP standard. Generally, a network node may be or comprise a hardware or software component implementing a certain functionality. In an example, a network node may be an entity as defined by 3GPP 5G or NR standard (also referred to as gNB) . Accordingly, while a network node may be understood to be implemented in or be a single device or module, a network node may also be implemented across or comprise multiple devices or modules. As such, a network node may in particular be implemented in or be a stationary device. Multiple network nodes may in particular establish a wireless communication system or network, which may in particular be an NR or 5G system (5GS) or any other wireless communications system defined by a past or future standard, in particular successors of the present 3GPP standards. Network nodes may be capable of being in direct and / or indirect communication with user equipment.

[0020] According to the example aspects of the present disclosure, there is in each case also disclosed a computer program comprising instructions, which, when executed by an apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform the method of the respective aspect. The computer program may in each case be stored on a computer-readable storage medium, in particular a tangible and / or non-transitory medium. The computer readable storage medium could for example be a disk or a memory or the like. The computer program could be stored in the computer readable storage medium in the form of instructions encoding the computer-readable storage medium. The computer readable storage medium may be intended for taking part in the operation of a device, like an internal or external memory, for instance a Read-Only Memory (ROM) or hard disk of a computer, or be intended for distribution of the program, like an optical disc.

[0021] Thus, according to the example aspects of the present disclosure, there is in each case also disclosed a computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon the computer program of the respective aspect.

[0022] Any disclosure herein relating to any example aspect is to be understood to be equally disclosed with respect to any subject-matter according to the respective example aspect, e.g. relating to an apparatus, a method, a computer program, and a computer-readable storage medium. For example, any passage describing at least one processor; and at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to perform a step is to be understood as disclosing the step as a method step itself. The same holds the other way around, i.e., any passage describing a method or method step is to be understood as disclosing at least one processor; and at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to perform the method or method step. The disclosure of a method or a method step shall also be considered as a disclosure of means for performing and / or causing to perform the respective method or method step. Likewise, the disclosure of means for performing and / or causing to perform a method or method step shall also be considered as a disclosure of the method or method step itself.

[0023] Specifically, an apparatus (e.g., the apparatus according to any of the described example aspects) is disclosed, configured to carry out, perform and / or control or comprising respective means for performing and / or controlling the method according to any of the above-mentioned example aspects. Further, an apparatus (e.g., the apparatus according to any of the described example aspects) is disclosed comprising at least one processor; and at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the apparatus at least to perform the method according to any aspect.

[0024] The apparatus according to any aspect may comprise means for performing the specified method or steps.

[0025] In general, the means or functionality of any of the disclosed devices or apparatuses (e.g., the apparatus according to any of the described example aspects) may be implemented in hardware and / or software. They may comprise one or multiple modules or units providing the respective functionality. They may for instance comprise at least one processor for executing computer program code for performing the required functions, at least one memory storing the program code, or both. They could comprise for instance circuitry that is designed to implement the required functions, for instance implemented in a chipset or a chip, like an integrated circuit. In general, the means may comprise for instance one or more processing means or processors.

[0026] Specific means may be used to implement specific functions / functionalities / features, e.g. determining means for determining at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among a plurality of radio resources associated with the apparatus and / or means for performing one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource (said means may for example be comprised by the apparatus according to the first example aspect) .

[0027] Further examples of specific means may comprise, e.g., transmitting means for transmitting, to a user device, at least one of: an indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource; or a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to a plurality of radio resources associated with the user device, wherein the at least one radio resource may be determinable as at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource based on the message (said means may for example be comprised by the apparatus according to the second example aspect) .

[0028] Thus, according to the respective example aspects of the present disclosure, there is in each case also disclosed a respective apparatus comprising means for performing a method according to the respective aspect of the present disclosure.

[0029] Any of the above-disclosed example aspects may, however, in general be performed by an apparatus, which may be a module or a component for a device, for example a chip.

[0030] The apparatus according to any aspect may comprise only (i.e., consist of) the disclosed components, for instance means, processor, memory, circuitry, or may further comprise one or more additional components.

[0031] The described aspects may be advantageous in terms of at least one of speed, efficiency, or power consumption associated with performing one or more measurements relating to one or more temporarily prioritized radio resources. More specifically, in accordance with the first example aspect, by performing one or more prioritized measurements relating to at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource, one or more required and / or desired measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may advantageously be performed in a faster manner without de-configuring and / or re-configuring measurements on some other (e.g., non-prioritized) radio resources which may result in additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements, as further described herein. Regarding the second example aspect, the aforementioned advantages may in particular be achieved by transmitting an indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource and / or a message based on which the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource is determinable to a user device (which, e.g., may then in turn perform a method in accordance with the first example aspect) . Various example embodiments of the present disclosure may thus for example be considered to propose a temporary measurement prioritization.

[0032] In the following, various example embodiments of the example aspects of the present disclosure are described in detail. It will be understood that any disclosure herein relating to any example aspect is to be understood to be disclosed in a corresponding manner with respect to any other example aspect.

[0033] It will further be understood that any disclosure herein specifically referring to cells, carriers, or beams is to be understood as equally disclosed for any other type of radio resource or, in other words, for any other type of measurement target that may be associated with a reference signal (as far as applicable) .

[0034] The apparatuses, methods, computer programs and / or storage media in accordance with the described aspects may for instance correspond to apparatuses, methods, computer programs and / or storage media for 6G (e.g. standardized in 3GPP Rel-20 or beyond) , in particular for measurements, measurement optimization and / or measurement reporting in 6G.

[0035] As mentioned above, at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among a plurality of radio resources associated with the apparatus may be determined by the apparatus. The plurality of radio resources may for instance comprise at least two radio resources, e.g. two, three, four or more radio resources. As used herein, a radio resource may for instance comprise and / or be definable by a time range, a (e.g., predefined) spatial region and / or by a (e.g., predefined) frequency range. For example, a radio resource may correspond to at least one of a (radio) cell, a (radio) carrier or a (radio) beam.

[0036] In example embodiments, the plurality of radio resources thus comprises at least one of: ● one or more cells; ● one or more carriers; or ● one or more beams.

[0037] For example, a respective one (e.g., each) of the plurality of radio resources may comprise or correspond to a cell, a carrier or a beam. Cells and beams may be understood as examples of radio resources comprising and / or being definable by a (e.g., predefined) spatial region. A carrier may be understood as an example of a radio resource comprising and / or being definable by a time range and / or a (e.g., predefined) frequency range. Thus, a cell and a beam may respectively in particular be understood as a spatial radio resource, while a carrier may in particular be understood as a frequency radio resource and / or a time-frequency radio resource, e.g. a combination of the time and frequency ranges. The one or more cells may for instance comprise or correspond to serving cells of the apparatus, and / or neighboring intra-and / or inter-frequency cells. For example, the one or more cells may comprise or correspond to a Primary Cell (PCell) of the apparatus, Secondary Cells (SCells) of the apparatus and / or primary SCG (Secondary Cell Group) cells (PSCells) of the apparatus.

[0038] Alternatively or in addition, as used herein, a radio resource may generally comprise or correspond to a measurement target that can be associated with at least one reference signal (e.g., a CSI-RS or a SSB, as further described herein) .

[0039] That the plurality of radio resources is associated with the apparatus may for example mean that the apparatus (e.g., a UE) is configured or has been configured (e.g., by the network) to measure (e.g., each of) the plurality of radio resources. Thus, in example embodiments, the apparatus is configured to measure the plurality of radio resources. In other words, that the plurality of radio resources is associated with the apparatus may for example mean that measurements are to be performed for (e.g., each of) the plurality of radio resources. For example, a respective reference signal associated with a respective one (e.g., each) of the plurality of radio resources may have to be measured by the apparatus.

[0040] The at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may for instance comprise (e.g., exactly) one, two, three or more temporarily prioritized radio resources. In example embodiments, the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource comprises exactly one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0041] As used herein, a temporarily prioritized radio resource may for instance correspond to a radio resource that is to be prioritized by the apparatus (e.g., at least) temporarily, e.g. with respect to measurements relating to the radio resource. Thus, in example embodiments, one or more measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource are (e.g., at least) temporarily to be prioritized by the apparatus. This may for example be or have been configured by the wireless communication network. As used herein, a (e.g., temporarily) prioritized radio resource may also be referred to as a (e.g., temporary) priority radio resource, for example a (e.g., temporary) priority cell. Thus, a respective one (e.g., each) of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may be prioritized (e.g., only) for a prioritization period.

[0042] Determining (e.g., by the apparatus) the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among the plurality of radio resources may for instance comprise or correspond to determining that a subset of the plurality of radio resources (said subset comprising the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource) is to be prioritized (e.g., at least) temporarily. In other words, determining the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among the plurality of radio resources may for instance comprise or correspond to determining that the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource is to be prioritized (e.g., at least) temporarily.

[0043] The at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may for instance be determined by the apparatus based on a corresponding indication received from a network node. Said indication may for example explicitly indicate (e.g., identify) the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource. The at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may thus for example be determined by the apparatus based on an explicit indication from a network node. To this end, said indication may, e.g., comprise at least one identifier for respectively identifying a respective one (e.g., each) of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0044] In example embodiments, the apparatus is thus further caused to perform: - receiving, from a network node, an indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource,  wherein the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource is determined by the apparatus based on said indication.

[0045] Said indication may for instance be part of a measurement configuration, e.g. a Radio Resource Control (RRC) measurement configuration, and / or of a dedicated prioritization message.

[0046] In example embodiments, said indication is thus received as part of at least one of: ● a measurement configuration; or ● a dedicated prioritization message.

[0047] The dedicated prioritization message may for example be part of or correspond to a Layer 1 (L1) message such as, e.g., Downlink Control Information (DCI) . Layer 1 may also be referred to as a physical (PHY) layer. Alternatively or in addition, the dedicated prioritization message may be part of or correspond to a Layer 2 (L2) message such as, e.g., a Medium Access Control Control Element (MAC-CE) message. Parts of Layer 2 may be referred to as a Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. Further alternatively or in addition, the dedicated prioritization message may be part of or correspond to a Layer 3 (L3) message, for example a (e.g., dedicated) RRC configuration. Layer 3 may also be referred to as a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer. Further alternatively or in addition, the dedicated prioritization message may be part of or correspond to a short ASN. 1 (Abstract Syntax Notation One) configuration.

[0048] The measurement configuration may for example be part of a L2 or L3 message, e.g., a RRC (re) configuration message or a RRC resume message. For example, during a user device attachment, after a radio bearer is set up, the network device (e.g., a gNB) may deliver measurement configurations to the user device (e.g., a UE) , e.g. based on the mobility trigger and policy settings. The measurement configuration may be included in the RRC Reconfiguration message or in the RRC Resume message. The network device may thus update the measurement configuration for the user device while the UE is in a CONNECTED mode, resuming from INACTIVE to CONNECTED mode or provide a new measurement configuration in the handover command.

[0049] Alternatively or in addition, the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may be determined by the apparatus based on a message received from a network node, the message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources. The at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may for example correspond to the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources.

[0050] In example embodiments, the apparatus is thus further caused to perform: - receiving, from a network node, a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to  be added to the plurality of radio resources, wherein the at least one radio resource is determined as the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource by the apparatus based on the message.

[0051] The message indicating the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources may for example be considered and / or understood by the apparatus as an implicit indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0052] Thus, alternatively or in addition to determining the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource based on an explicit indication from a network node, in example embodiments, the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource is determined by the apparatus based on an implicit indication from a network node.

[0053] An implicit indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may for instance be understood as an indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource by virtue of a message identifying the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource (e.g., in a different context) without explicitly indicating the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource as such (i.e., as a temporarily prioritized radio resource) .

[0054] In other words, the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may be determined by the apparatus based on an existing message, e.g. a message not explicitly indicating the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource as a temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0055] An explicit indication may allow the network to indicate the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource in a particularly straightforward and less complex manner. An implicit indication may advantageously allow to even further reduce a signaling overhead by means of reusing an existing message as implicit indication.

[0056] A radio resource to be activated may for instance be understood as a radio resource for which the network instructs the apparatus (e.g., a UE) to activate said radio resource. Similarly, a radio resource to be added to the plurality of radio resources associated with the apparatus may for instance be understood as a radio resource for which the network instructs the apparatus (e.g., a UE) to add said radio resource to the plurality of radio resources with which the apparatus is associated (e.g., which are configured at the apparatus) .

[0057] The message indicating the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources may for instance be part of or correspond to an RRC message, e.g. an RRC reconfiguration message, for example to add a cell (e.g., an SCell) and / or a carrier (e.g., a newly configured carrier) . Alternatively or in addition, said message may for instance be part of or correspond to a radio resource activation command, e.g. a command for activating a cell (e.g., an SCell activation command) and / or a carrier (e.g., a newly configured carrier) .

[0058] In example embodiments, the message is thus received as part of at least one of: ● a Radio Resource Control, RRC, message; or ● a radio resource activation command.

[0059] As mentioned above, one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may be performed by the apparatus.

[0060] As used herein, a measurement relating to a radio resource may for example comprise a measurement of a respective reference signal (e.g., a CSI-RS or a SSB) associated with the radio resource. For example, a measurement relating to a cell, carrier or beam may comprise a measurement of a respective reference signal associated with the cell, carrier or beam. As used herein, a measurement relating to a radio resource may further comprise an identification of the radio resource (e.g., cell identification) .

[0061] In example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource thus comprise an identification of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource and / or one or more measurements of one or more reference signals associated with the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0062] Correspondingly, in example embodiments, performing the one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource comprises measuring one or more reference signals associated with (e.g., a respective one of) the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource and / or identifying (e.g., each of) the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0063] The one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may comprise respective measurements of different reference signals (e.g., measurements of a CSI-RS and measurements of a SSB) associated with the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource and / or respective measurements of a same reference signal at different points in time (e.g., subsequent measurements of a same reference signal, e.g. of only one of a CSI-RS or a SSB) .

[0064] In example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are based on at least one of: ● a Synchronization Signal Block, SSB; or ● a Channel State Information Reference Signal, CSI-RS.

[0065] A Synchronization Signal Block (SSB) may comprise or may correspond to a block of signals including, e.g., a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) , a Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS) , and a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) along with a Demodulation Reference Signal (DM-RS) . As used herein, when referring to a reference signal in the context of a SSB, said reference signal may correspond to (e.g., only) a part of the SSB, e.g. the DM-RS of the respective SSB, or to the respective SSB in its entirety. A Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) may comprise or may correspond to a reference signal transmitted on one or more predefined resource elements of the physical layer, e.g., defined by frequency and time positions within one or more resource blocks. That the one or more prioritized measurements are based on a SSB and / or on a CSI-RS may for example mean that the one or more prioritized measurements are measurements of (e.g., at least one characteristic or property of) the SSB and / or of the CSI-RS.

[0066] In example embodiments, performing the one or more prioritized measurements comprises (e.g., at least) temporarily prioritizing (e.g., giving priority to) the one or more prioritized measurements, e.g. among respective measurements relating to the plurality of radio resources and / or over respective measurements relating to radio resources from among the plurality of radio resources other than the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0067] In example embodiments, at least part of the one or more prioritized measurements are thus performed prior to performing one or more measurements relating to at least one non-prioritized radio resource among the plurality of radio resources.

[0068] Alternatively or in addition, in example embodiments, a measurement delay (or measurement period) for performing the one or more prioritized measurements may be reduced as compared to a default measurement delay (or measurement period) applicable for a respective radio resource.

[0069] In example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are thus performed based on a measurement period that is reduced as compared to a default measurement period associated with the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource. A measurement period based on which the one or more prioritized measurements may be performed may thus be smaller than a default measurement period. To this end, in example embodiments, the reduced measurement period is determined without applying, e.g. carrier-and / or cell-specific, sharing and / or scaling factors reflecting a number of radio resources comprised by the plurality of radio resources (which may, e.g., share measurement occasions of the apparatus) . Correspondingly, the default measurement period may for example correspond to a measurement period determined based on applying, e.g. carrier-and / or cell-specific, sharing and / or scaling factors reflecting a number of radio resources comprised by the plurality of radio resources. A default measurement period may for example correspond to a measurement period as defined in 3GPP TS 38.133 (examples are provided further below) .

[0070] In particular in the above ways, the apparatus may advantageously use the next available measurement occasion (s) for the one or more prioritized measurements, thereby allowing for performing one or more required measurements in a faster manner while reducing as far as possible additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements, e.g. due to de-configuring and re-configuring measurements.

[0071] Performing measurements based on a measurement period may for instance mean that a first performed measurement and a second performed measurement are temporally separated by the measurement period.

[0072] In example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are prioritized (e.g., only) for (or during) a prioritization period that is at least one of: ● a predetermined period; ● at least in part determined by the apparatus; or ● at least in part indicated to the apparatus by the network node.

[0073] A predetermined prioritization period may for instance correspond to a pre-defined time period (e.g., defined in a Technical Specification) . A prioritization period at least in part determined by the apparatus may for instance correspond to a UE-configured time period (or duration) . A prioritization period at least in part indicated to the apparatus by the network node may for instance correspond to a network-configured time period.

[0074] In example embodiments, an end of said prioritization period may depend on the transmission of measurement information to the network node (as further described herein) , the expiry of a predetermined prioritization period, the reception of an indication to terminate the one or more prioritized measurements from the network node, and / or one or more predefined events.

[0075] In example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are thus performed until at least one of the following: ● the measurement information has been transmitted to the network node; ● a predetermined prioritization period has expired; ● an indication to terminate the one or more prioritized measurements has been received from the network  node; or ● occurrence of at least one of one or more predefined events.

[0076] As further described herein, the measurement information transmitted to the network node may be based on one or more measurement results of the one or more prioritized measurements. In other words, in example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are performed until the apparatus sends a measurement report to the network (e.g., to the network node) with measurement results for the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource. Alternatively or in addition, in example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are performed until a predetermined, UE-configured and / or network-configured timer expires. Alternatively or in addition, in example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are performed until the network (e.g. via the network node) sends an indication to the apparatus to stop the one or more prioritized measurements. Alternatively or in addition, in example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are performed until occurrence of at least one of one or more predefined events (e.g., completion of an addition or activation of a radio resource, e.g. an SCell addition) .

[0077] In example embodiments, a begin of said prioritization period depends on the reception of the indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource or on the reception of the message indicating the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources. In example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are thus performed based on and / or in response to receiving the indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource from the network node. Alternatively or in addition, in example embodiments, the one or more prioritized measurements are performed based on and / or in response to receiving the message indicating the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources from the network node.

[0078] In example embodiments, in order to allow for performing the one or more prioritized measurements even faster, the apparatus may be required (e.g., instructed by the wireless communication network) to perform fast beam sweeping (e.g., if beam sweeping applies to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource, e.g. in FR2) , e.g. based on multi-reception operation during the prioritization period. Fast beam sweeping may for example mean that the apparatus uses more than one reception beam and / or panel to perform the one or more prioritized measurements, which may reduce a beam sweeping factor (e.g., from 8 to 4) , thereby even further reducing a time required for performing the one or more prioritized measurements.

[0079] Before a prioritization period starts (or has started) and / or after a prioritization period ends (or has ended) , the apparatus may (e.g., continue) normal measurements of the plurality of radio resources. As used herein, a normal measurement may be understood as a non-prioritized measurement, e.g. a measurement not being prioritized among and / or over other measurements. Alternatively or in addition, a normal measurement may be understood as a measurement based on a measurement period that corresponds to a default measurement period associated with a respectively measured radio resource, as further described herein.

[0080] In example embodiments, the apparatus is thus further caused to perform, prior to and / or after performing the one or more prioritized measurements: - performing respective measurements relating to the plurality of radio resources without performing  prioritized measurements.

[0081] In other words, before one or more of the aforementioned examples of a begin of said prioritization period and / or after one or more of the aforementioned examples of an end of said prioritization period, the apparatus may continue to measure (e.g., all of) the plurality of radio resources (e.g., all configured cells) without applying a temporary prioritization. To this end, the apparatus may for example measure (e.g., all of) the plurality of radio resources with equal priority.

[0082] In example embodiments, the apparatus is further caused to perform: - transmitting measurement information to a network node, wherein the measurement information is based  on one or more measurement results of the one or more prioritized measurements.

[0083] The one or more measurement results of the one or more prioritized measurements may in particular comprise respective results of a respective identification of (e.g., each of) the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource and / or of a respective measurement of a respective reference signal associated with the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource. The measurement information may for example form part of or correspond to a measurement report for the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource, said measurement report being transmitted by the apparatus (e.g., a UE) to the network node.

[0084] Transmitting the measurement information to the network node may be triggered by the apparatus determining that one or more reporting occasions are available or by the apparatus requesting resources for transmitting the measurement information and the network node assigning corresponding resources.

[0085] Transmitting the measurement information to the network node may allow the wireless communication network comprising the network node to obtain a measurement report for a specific radio resource from the apparatus without a long measurement delay, in particular without reconfiguring the measurements at the apparatus. The wireless communication network may advantageously use such a measurement report to, e.g., obtain information about a cell, carrier or beam quality in a faster manner, e.g. for mobility or CA purposes.

[0086] In example embodiments, the measurement information is thus transmitted to the network node based on (e.g., in response to) at least one of: ● determining, by the apparatus, that an occasion for transmitting the measurement information is available;  or ● receiving, from the network node, an indication that one or more resources for transmitting the  measurement information have been allocated.

[0087] An occasion for transmitting the measurement information being available may for instance mean that one or more resources (e.g. in the frequency and / or in the time domain) for transmitting the measurement information are available (e.g., have been allocated) . An occasion for transmitting measurement information may also be referred to as a reporting occasion.

[0088] As mentioned above, the measurement information may be transmitted by the apparatus according to the first example aspect (e.g., a UE) to a network node (an example of the apparatus according to the second example aspect) .

[0089] In example embodiments, the apparatus according to the second example aspect is thus further caused to perform: - receiving, from the user device, measurement information, wherein the measurement information is based  on one or more measurement results of one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource.

[0090] Thus, the measurement information that may be transmitted to a network node by the apparatus according to the first example aspect may in particular correspond to the measurement information that may be received by the apparatus according to the second example aspect from the user device.

[0091] Further, the indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource that may be transmitted to a user device by the apparatus according to the second example aspect may in particular correspond to the indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource that may be received by the apparatus according to the first example aspect.

[0092] Further, the message indicating the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources associated with the user device that may be transmitted to the user device by the apparatus according to the second example aspect may in particular correspond to the message indicating the at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources which message may be received by the apparatus according to the first example aspect.

[0093] Thus, in example embodiments, one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource are to be performed (as further described herein) by the user device, e.g. based on and / or in response to receiving the indication and / or the message transmitted to the user device by the apparatus according to the second example aspect.

[0094] As used herein, performing a second step based on a first step may for example mean that the second step may be performed, e.g. directly, in response to the first step, e.g. without any intermediate steps in between the first step and the second step. Alternatively, performing a second step based on a first step may mean that the second step may be performed (merely) after the first step, e.g. such that there may be at least one intermediate step in between the first step and the second step.

[0095] It is to be understood that the presentation of the embodiments disclosed herein is merely by way of examples and non-limiting.

[0096] Herein, the disclosure of a method step shall also be considered as a disclosure of means for performing the respective method step. Likewise, the disclosure of means for performing a method step shall also be considered as a disclosure of the method step itself.

[0097] Other features of the present disclosure will become apparent from the following detailed description considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. It is to be understood, however, that the drawings are designed solely for purposes of illustration and not as a definition of the limits of the present disclosure, for which reference should be made to the appended claims. It should be further understood that the drawings are not drawn to scale and that they are merely intended to conceptually illustrate the structures and procedures described herein. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0099] The following description serves to deepen the understanding of the present disclosure and shall be understood to complement and be read together with the description of example embodiments of the present disclosure as provided in the above SUMMARY section of this specification.

[0100] In the following, an example wireless communication system, within which the present disclosure may be applied, is described. While the radio system in the examples below is a 5G / NR system, this is only to be considered a non-limiting example.

[0101] FIG. 1 exemplarily illustrates a UE 100 (an example of the apparatus according to the first example aspect) and a plurality of gNBs 110a-110c (respective examples of the apparatus according to the second example aspect) . UE 100 may be in wireless communication with one or more of gNBs 110a-110c via a respective radio link 10a-10c. Radio links 10a-10c may enable transmitting / receiving information and / or signals in between the UE 100 and gNBs 110a-110c.

[0102] For example, UE 100 may receive, from gNB 110, an indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource. Alternatively or in addition, UE 100 may receive, from gNB 110, a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to a plurality of radio resources associated with UE 100. Further, UE 100 may transmit measurement information to gNB 110. Further, UE 100 may receive, from gNB 110, an indication that one or more resources for transmitting measurement information have been allocated.

[0103] Correspondingly, gNB 110 may transmit, to UE 100, an indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource. Alternatively or in addition, gNB 110 may transmit, to UE 100, a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to a plurality of radio resources associated with UE 100. Further, gNB 110 may receive measurement information from UE 100. Further, gNB 110 may transmit, to UE 100, an indication that one or more resources for transmitting measurement information have been allocated.

[0104] As indicated in FIG. 1, UE 100 may be configured to measure cells 120a-120c (respective examples of radio resources associated with an apparatus) respectively associated with one or more of gNBs 110a-110c. Cells 120a-120c may for example correspond to serving cells and neighboring intra-and inter-frequency cells.

[0105] For serving cells and neighboring intra-and inter-frequency cells, Synchronization Signal Block (SSB) and Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) based Layer 1 (L1) and Layer 3 (L3) measurements are supported in New Radio (NR) . The following cell identification and measurement delay requirements are included in section 9 of 3GPP Technical Specification (TS) 38.133: - L3 measurements ○ Intra-and inter-frequency cell identification and measurement delay for SSB and CSI-RS  based measurements with and without measurement gaps - L1 measurements ○ Serving cell SSB and CSI-RS measurements ○ Inter-cell SSB measurements ○ Lower-layer (e.g., L1 / L2) Triggered Mobility (LTM) candidate cell SSB measurements  with and without measurement gaps

[0106] L3 cell identification and measurement delay depending on a frequency range and a need for measurement gaps may depend on: - M, which is the number of samples in Frequency Range 2 (FR2) and depends on the UE power class  (number of samples is 5 in Frequency Range 1 (FR1) ) - K factors (Kp, KL1-measurement, Kgap, KFR) which take into account e.g. gap and SS / PBCH Block  Measurement Timing Configuration (SMTC) sharing between measurements - CSSF (carrier specific scaling factor) , which takes into account the number of component carriers to  be measured as well as the overlap between the measured reference signals being measured (e.g. SSBs on different carriers) . For instance, for intra-frequency measurement, it counts the number of SCells configured with SSB or CSI-RS based measurement. - MGRP (measurement gap repetition period) - SMTC period - Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycle

[0107] Examples for a respective measurement delay (or measurement period) for FR2 intra-frequency measurements with gaps are given in Table 9.2.6.3-2 of 3GPP TS 38.133 version 18.7.0 Release 18 (examples of a default measurement period) .

[0108] For LTM L1 SSB measurements, the measurement delay may be defined with the following multipliers depending on the measurement type and the need for measurement gaps: - TReport, which is the reporting period - M, which is the number of samples - P, which takes into account overlapping of measurement gaps and SSB occasions - PL1-sharing, which takes into account the number of cells to be measured (serving and candidate cells) - N, which is the beam sweeping factor in FR2 - TSSB-NBC, which is the periodicity of the neighbor cell SSB index - Nlayer, which is the number of inter-frequency layers which are configured for L1-RSRP (Reference  Signal Received Power) measurement and measured without measurement gaps + the number of intra-frequency layers configured for L1-RSRP measurement. - Kgap - CSSF - MGRP - SSB period - DRX cycle

[0109] Examples for a respective measurement delay (or measurement period) for FR2 inter-frequency L1-RSRP measurement with measurement gaps are given in Table 9.15.5.1-2 of 3GPP TS 38.133 version 18.7.0 Release 18 (examples of a default measurement period) .

[0110] As explained above, measurement delay / period requirements may take into account multiple factors such as the number of carriers / cells a UE is configured to measure (an example of sharing and / or scaling factors) , leading to long measurement delays.

[0111] In some scenarios, it may be beneficial to get a measurement report from a UE for a specific cell relatively rapidly. However, when a UE is measuring multiple cells / carriers simultaneously, the measurement delay may be relatively long as respective measurement occasions may be overlapping and hence the UE may not measure the specific cell / carrier on every configured measurement occasion. In other words, the UE may have to alternate measurements on respective cells hence the reason for scaling the measurement delay depending on number of measured carriers / cells. For example, a UE may be assumed with two searchers for L3 measurements, wherein one searcher may be dedicated used for the Primary Cell (PCell) of the UE while the second searcher may be shared among all primary SCG (Secondary Cell Group) cells (PSCells) and Secondary Cells (SCells) .

[0112] A result of this behavior may be that the network may never be fully aware of which carrier / cells are measured at which time instance. For example, the network may not be able to know if or what the UE will measure in a certain SMTC.

[0113] In the context of measurement delay reduction, it may pose an issue that measurements on FR2 are relatively slow. In particular, in some network deployment of FR1+FR2 CA (Carrier Aggregation) , it may be beneficial that the UE sends a measurement report as soon as possible especially for a newly configured FR2 carrier or an added SCell, so that the network has knowledge of available cells and channel conditions as early as possible in order to facilitate scheduling on the SCell. Hence, it may be considered a need to speed up the measurement on some certain cell / carrier.

[0114] For the network to be able to speed up the measurement for a specific cell / carrier, a number of measured targets (carriers and / or cells) may be limited, for example by de-configuring measurements on some carriers or cells. This approach is however not ideal as a time used for configuring and / or de-configuring measurement targets may consume time (and thus may add delays) and may require additional signaling. Additionally, it may be assumed that a side effect of removing and adding measurement targets may be that the UE may lose all measurement information including for example the timing synchronization with the de-configured cell and measurement results. Hence, the UE may need to detect and measure the carrier / cell again when network wants measurements from this target again, thereby increasing delay. Furthermore, reconfiguring measurements may be considered a heavy operation on the network side and processing the configuration may be considered as heavy on the UE side. Reconfiguration of the measurements may also cause signaling overhead. Therefore, getting a report fast or even with just a predictable delay for a specific carrier while being configured with other carriers may be considered complicated and having large processing and signaling overhead.

[0115] In view of this, the present disclosure may be understood to propose a network indication to enable temporary prioritization of measurements on a subset (≥1) of configured cells, carriers, beams or in general one or more reference signals (RS) while the UE is being configured to measure multiple cells / carriers / beams / RS.

[0116] In the following, it will mainly be referred to cells. It is to be understood, however, that the following applies equally to other radio resources such as carriers, beams or any other measurement target that can be associated with a reference signal.

[0117] The following example embodiments for said network indication to enable temporary prioritization of measurements are disclosed:Option 1 (Indication in measurement configuration) Network indicates in the measurement configuration (via RRC message) that a specific cell is a priority cell  (an example of an indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource that is received as part of a measurement configuration) . When receiving the measurement configuration, the UE shall prioritize measurements and identification of this priority cell.Option 2 (dynamic indication) A separate message for network indication is introduced to indicate that the UE shall prioritize measurements  on one of the configured cells (an example of an indication of the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource that is received as part of a dedicated prioritization message) .Option 3 (implicit indication) Network sends a configuration message, for example an RRCReconfiguration message, to add an SCell and  UE shall prioritize measurements on the newly added SCell upon receiving the message (an example of a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to the plurality of radio resources, wherein the at least one radio resource is determined as the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource by the apparatus based on the message) . The existing RRCReconfiguration message including SCell addition may be considered as an implicit indication. In another example, the UE may prioritize measurements on an SCell when the SCell is activated.

[0118] Regardless of the respective option, when receiving an indication to prioritize a certain cell, the UE may prioritize measurements, including for example cell identification and / or measurements on the indicated cell (an example of performing one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource based on and / or in response to receiving a corresponding indication / message) .

[0119] The period during which the prioritization is applied may be limited, e.g.: - until UE sends a measurement report to the network with measurement results for the prioritized cell  (an example of the one or more prioritized measurements being performed until the measurement information has been transmitted to the network node) , or - until a specified time duration or a network configured time period (e.g., a timer) expires (an  example of the one or more prioritized measurements being performed until a predetermined prioritization period has expired) , or - until the network sends an indication to stop the prioritized measurement (an example of the one or  more prioritized measurements being performed until an indication to terminate the one or more prioritized measurements has been received from the network node) , or - until a specified event such as SCell addition is completed (an example of the one or more prioritized  measurements being performed until occurrence of at least one of one or more predefined events) .

[0120] After one of these example ending points, the UE may continue to measure all configured cells without applying the temporary prioritization (for example with equal priority) (an example of performing respective measurements relating to the plurality of radio resources without performing prioritized measurements) .

[0121] Respective example embodiments of respective methods according to the described example aspects will be described below with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.

[0122] FIG. 2 shows an example embodiment 200 of a method according to the first example aspect. Method 200 may for example be performed by an apparatus according to the first example aspect (e.g., a UE) . First, at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource among a plurality of radio resources associated with the apparatus may be determined (action 210) . Further, one or more prioritized measurements relating to the at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource may be performed (action 220) .

[0123] FIG. 3 shows an example embodiment 300 of a method according to the second example aspect. Method 300 may for example be performed by an apparatus according to the second example aspect (e.g., a network node) . According to method 300, at least one of the following may be transmitted to a user device (action 310) : ● an indication of at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource; or ● a message indicating at least one radio resource to be activated and / or to be added to a plurality of radio  resources associated with the user device, wherein the at least one radio resource is determinable as at least one temporarily prioritized radio resource based on the message.

[0124] Example implementations of methods 200, 300 will be described in detail further below with respect to FIGS. 4A and 4B, 5A and 5B, and 6A and 6B.

[0125] In the following, further details are described regarding in particular a) the UE behavior during the prioritized measurement period; b) various indication options for indicating the fast / prioritized measurements, including 1) an indication in the measurement configuration, 2) a dynamic indication, and 3) an implicit indication; c) the measurement reporting; and d) an impact on UE requirements.

[0126] UE behavior during prioritized measurement period Based on one of the example options for said network indication to enable temporary prioritization of  measurements given above, the UE may start prioritized measurements on one or more cells.

[0127] The prioritization may continue until the UE sends a measurement report or a configured number of measurement reports for this / these cell (s) .

[0128] Further, the network may send a dedicated message such as, e.g., a MAC-CE message, a L1 message or short ASN. 1 configuration or an RRC configuration to indicate the UE to stop the prioritized measurements.

[0129] Further, the network may configure a timer in the measurement configuration to tell how long the UE shall prioritize this / these cells: - In an example, the timer duration may be specified to be one cell detection time, cell identification  time or one measurement period or the combined identification and measurement period time for the prioritized cell (when assuming prioritization of measurements on this cell) . - In a further example, the network may configure the timer to be, for instance one cell detection time,  cell identification time or one measurement period or the combined identification and measurement period for the prioritized cell (when assuming prioritization of measurements on this cell) . - In a further example, the timer may be determined in a different manner, e.g. not being constrained  to the foregoing procedures.

[0130] While prioritizing a subset of cells or a cell for measurements, the UE may measure also other configured cells, e.g. if this can be done without impacting the measurements on the prioritized cell (s) , e.g. by extending the measurement period for the priority cell (s) . Hence, in an example, no carrier or cell specific scaling factor may apply in the measurement delay for the prioritized cell (s) . This may mean that, if a measurement occasion for prioritized and non-prioritized cell (s) is overlapping, partially overlapping, or adjacent and the UE is not able to measure more than one cell at the time, the UE uses this measurement occasion for measuring the prioritized cell (s) .

[0131] In example embodiments, in order to speed up the reporting of the prioritized cell (s) even more, the UE may be required to perform fast beam sweeping, e.g. based on multi-Rx (reception) operation during the prioritization period (e.g., if beam sweeping applies to the prioritized cell (s) , e.g. in FR2) . Fast beam sweeping may mean that the UE would use more than one Rx beam or panel to perform measurements on the prioritized cell (s) , which may reduce the beam sweeping factor (e.g. from 8 to 4) .

[0132] Fast / prioritized measurement indication options In the following, various example options for indicating a fast / prioritized measurement for one or more cells  are described.

[0133] Indication in measurement configuration In this option, the fast / prioritized measurement for one or more cells are indicated in a (e.g., RRC)  measurement configuration. In particular, the network may indicate one or more cells as priority cells in the measurement configuration. Based on the indication in the measurement configuration, when the UE starts measuring based on the measurement configuration, the UE shall prioritize measurements and, if needed, cell detection / identification for the cell or cells indicated as priority cells.

[0134] As an example, this UE behavior is illustrated in FIGS. 4A, 4B where cell1 is indicated to be prioritized in the measurement configuration, and the prioritization continues until UE sends a measurement report for cell1. When receiving the measurement configuration, the UE uses all available configured measurement occasions on cell1 to measure (e.g. detect and measure any detectable cell (s) ) until UE reports the results. UE may measure other cells (cell2 and cell3) normally or with reduced periodicity (i.e., with an increased measurement period) , if the measurement occasions are not overlapping with the prioritized cell or if the UE can perform the measurements without extending the measurement period for cell1. In the example shown in FIGS. 4A, 4B, the prioritization period ends at transmission of the measurement report. Alternatively, the prioritization period may end after a timer expires or at another network indication.

[0135] FIGS. 4A, 4B show examples of signaling flow charts between UE 100 and gNB 110 according to example embodiments of the described aspects. The flow charts comprise the following actions:

[0136] Action 401: gNB 110 transmits a measurement configuration for cell1, cell2 and cell 3 to UE 100, and indicates cell1 as a priority cell.

[0137] Action 402: UE 100 prioritizes measurements for and / or identification of cell1. This may include performing prioritized measurements for cell1, and normal, reduced or no measurements for cell2 and cell3 during the prioritized measurement period (402) .

[0138] Action 403: UE 100 transmits a measurement report for cell1 to gNB 110.

[0139] Action 404: UE 100 measures cell1, cell2 and cell3 normally during the normal measurement period after the prioritized measurement period.

[0140] Action 405: UE 100 transmits a measurement report for cell1, cell2 and cell3 to gNB 110.

[0141] In particular by gNB 110 indicating cell1 as a priority cell (action 401) , and by UE 100 prioritizing measurements for and / or identification of cell1 (action 402) , required and / or desired measurements relating to cell1 may advantageously be performed in a faster manner without de-configuring and / or re-configuring measurements on cell2 and cell3 which might result in additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements, as further described herein.

[0142] Dynamic indication In this option, the network indicates one or more cells for prioritized (or fast) measurements with an  individual message, which may, e.g., be a layer 2 (L2) message, such as a MAC-CE message, a layer 1 (L1) message or a short ASN. 1 configuration or an RRC configuration. This indication may happen at any point after the UE has received a measurement configuration. The network may optionally indicate some cell (s) to be potential (or candidate) priority cells in the measurement configuration as in the RRC-based indication option in the previous section, but the UE shall start the prioritized measurements on one or more of these cells only based on the separate indication message.

[0143] As an example, this UE behavior is illustrated in FIGS. 5A, 5B where UE starts measuring all configured cells “normally” (e.g., without priority) when receiving the measurement configuration. The network may optionally indicate in the configuration that cell1 is a priority cell and measurements on this cell may be prioritized at some point through network indication (see reference sign 503) . Alternatively, there may be no such indication in the measurement configuration and any cell may be prioritized by the indication. When the network sends fast measurement command, the UE prioritizes measurements on cell1, e.g. until sending the measurement report to the network. After that the UE continues measurements without priority. UE may measure other cells (cell2 and cell3) normally or with reduced periodicity (i.e., with an increased measurement period) during the prioritization period, if the measurement occasions are not overlapping with the prioritized cell or if the UE can perform the measurements on cell2 and cell3 without extending the measurement period for cell1. In the example shown in FIGS. 5A, 5B, the prioritization period ends at transmission of the measurement report. Alternatively, the prioritization period may end after a timer expires or at another network indication.

[0144] FIGS. 5A, 5B show examples of signaling flow charts between a UE 100 and a gNB 110 according to further example embodiments of the described aspects. The flow charts comprise the following actions:

[0145] Action 501: gNB 110 transmits a measurement configuration for cell1, cell2 and cell 3 to UE 100. The measurement configuration may include an indication indicative of the cell1 as an optional priority cell. Indicating a cell (such as in this case cell1) as an optional priority cell (or candidate priority cell) may in particular allow UE 100 to be aware in advance (e.g., before such a cell is indicated as an actual priority cell) that such a cell may be prioritized at some point in time, e.g. to determine in advance corresponding measurement delays and / or to define in advance how to adjust corresponding measurements.

[0146] Action 502: UE 100 measures cell1, cell2 and cell3 normally.

[0147] Action 503: gNB 110 dynamically transmits a measurement priority indication for cell1. For example, the gNB 110 may transmit the measurement priority indication after transmitting the measurement configuration. Thus, the gNB 100 is able to get a measurement result for at least one specific cell quickly by transmitting the dynamic indication.

[0148] Action 504: After receiving the measurment priority indication, UE 100 prioritizes measurements for cell1. This may include performing prioritized measurements for cell1, and normal, reduced or no measurements for cell2 and cell3.

[0149] Action 505: UE 100 transmits a measurement report for cell1 to gNB 110 in response to the dynamic indication.

[0150] Action 506: UE 100 measures cell1, cell2 and cell3 normally.

[0151] Action 507: UE 100 transmits a measurement report for cell1, cell2 and cell3 to gNB 110 according to the normal process (e.g., according to the measurement configuration of 501) .

[0152] In particular by gNB 110 transmitting a measurement priority indication for cell1 (action 503) , and by UE 100 prioritizing measurements for cell1 (action 504) , required and / or desired measurements relating to cell1 may advantageously be performed in a faster manner without de-configuring and / or re-configuring measurements on cell2 and cell3 which might result in additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements, as further described herein.

[0153] Implicit indication In this option, the UE behavior is the same as in the previous option (dynamic indication) , but the trigger to  start prioritized (or fast) measurements on a cell begins from an existing message (e.g., not a message explicitly indicating prioritization of measurements) , such as RRC reconfiguration with addition of one or more SCells. In this example, the UE prioritizes the measurements on the SCell (s) to be added after receiving the configuration. Prioritization for the SCell (s) to be added ends at completion of the SCell addition, after which the UE continues measurements normally.

[0154] As an example, this UE behavior is illustrated in FIGS. 6A, 6B where cell3 is added as an SCell and where the UE prioritizes cell3 measurements until completion of the SCell addition.

[0155] FIGS. 6A, 6B show examples of signaling flow charts between a UE 100 and a gNB 110 according to further example embodiments of the described aspects. The flow charts comprise the following actions:

[0156] Action 601: gNB 110 transmits a measurement configuration for cell1 and cell2 to UE 100.

[0157] Action 602: UE 100 measures cell1 and cell2 normally.

[0158] Action 603: gNB 110 transmits an RRC reconfiguration which includes adding cell3 as SCell (cell1 and cell2 are maintained) .

[0159] Action 604: UE 100 prioritizes measurements for cell3. This may include performing prioritized measurements for cell3, and normal, reduced or no measurements for cell1 and cell2.

[0160] Action 605: SCell addition of cell3 is completed.

[0161] Action 606: UE 100 measures cell1, cell2 and cell3 normally. To this end, the previously received RRC reconfiguration which includes adding cell3 as SCell (action 603) may include a measurement configuration for cell3. In other words, in order to measure (also) cell3 (besides cell1, cell2) , considering that no measurement configuration for cell3 is transmitted to UE 100 in action 601, the SCell addition message adding cell3 in action 603 may also add a corresponding measurement configuration for said added cell3. In example embodiments in which an SCell activation message or command is transmitted by gNB 110 to UE 100 instead of the SCell addition message of action 603, the measurement configuration for cell3 may be provided, e.g., together with the measurement configuration for cell1 and cell2 in action 601 (where cell 3 may be a deactivated SCell) , and said SCell activation message may then start the prioritization of cell3.

[0162] In example embodiments, UE 100 may additionally indicate (e.g., report) which cells are respectively configured for measurements at the various points in time. This applies equally to the various example signaling flow charts of FIGS. 4A and 4B, 5A and 5B, and 6A and 6B.

[0163] In particular by gNB 110 transmitting an RRC reconfiguration which includes adding cell3 as SCell (action 603) which is considered and / or understood by UE 100 as an implicit indication of cell3 being a priority cell, and by UE 100 prioritizing measurements for cell3 (action 604) , required and / or desired measurements relating to cell3 (e.g. due to cell3 being added as SCell) may advantageously be performed in a faster manner without de-configuring and / or re-configuring measurements on cell1 and cell2 which might result in additional delay, signaling overhead and resource requirements, as further described herein.

[0164] Measurement reporting After a UE has performed the prioritized measurement (s) , it may report the measurement result (s) in the next  available reporting occasion or if the network configures so, in the next X reporting occasions (with X being an integer greater than one) , or in one or more reporting occasions occurring during a timer. The following example options may be used for reporting the measurement result (s) : - Using periodic reporting occasion: UE uses the next configured periodic reporting opportunity (the  next one after completing the fast measurement) or the next X periodic reporting occasions (with X being an integer greater than one) , or the reporting occasions occurring during a timer; - Reporting based on UE request (such as scheduling request, similar to event-triggered reporting) : UE  requests for reporting resources after completing the prioritized measurement (s) and network assigns the reporting resources based on the request. - Reporting based on network request (such as aperiodic reporting or semi-persistent reporting) after  completing the prioritized measurement (s) .

[0165] UE requirement impact In the following, it is exemplarily illustrated how the prioritized search (e.g., measurements) may be realized  in the UE requirements and UE behavior. While it is referred to a single cell in the following, it is to be understood that the following applies equally to multiple cells or radio resources such as carriers, beams etc.

[0166] During the time the UE prioritizes measurements on a prioritized cell, the measurement delay may be defined as short as possible considering the prioritized cell. In particular, none or as few as possible cell or carrier specific sharing / scaling factors may apply in the measurement delay requirements. This may for example mean that sharing / scaling factors in the measurement delay requirements are omitted / suspended or set to “1” in the requirements, in order to cancel the impact of said sharing / scaling factors. In this way, an impact from non-prioritized cells may be avoided or at least mitigated during the fast measurement delay duration.

[0167] Omitting the sharing / scaling factors may mean that the UE uses all configured measurement occasions for the priority cell without sharing the occasions with other non-prioritized cells to be measured. The UE may measure other cells if this can be done without extending the measurement period for the prioritized cell. If the UE cannot measure one or more of the non-prioritized cells without extending the measurement period for the priority cell, the UE may not be allowed to measure those non-prioritized cells.

[0168] The measurement requirements for the non-prioritized cells may be defined in the following ways during the prioritization period: - There may be no requirements for other cells during the prioritization period; for example, it may up  to the UE whether to measure other cells or not. - Requirements may be defined for the cells whose measurement occasions are not overlapping with  the prioritized cell measurements. Measurement delay for the non-prioritized cells may for example take into account measurement occasions that are non-overlapping with the prioritized cell measurements. The measurement period for these cells may thus become longer, e.g. if some of the measurement occasions are overlapping with the priority cell. - For a UE capable to measure one or more cells simultaneously with the prioritized cell, the  measurement requirement may not change for such non-prioritized cells.

[0169] After the prioritization period has ended, measurement requirements without cell / carrier prioritization may continue to apply. For example, the sharing / scaling factors in the measurement delay may again consider all configured cells for measurement, e.g. as in the baseline requirements.

[0170] Examples of measurement requirements for the prioritized cell (s) The impact in the measurement delay for different types of measurements may be for example but not limited  to given parameters of the measurement delay. L3 measurement: - CSSF may not be taken into account or may be reduced during the fast / priority measurement period. - Measurement delay may be equal to the existing delay, where CSSF = 1 when only one cell is  prioritized. LTM candidate cell measurement (an example of a L1 measurement) : - During the priority period, UE may not be required to measure other cells unless possible within the  existing measurement delay with PL1-sharing = 1 (assuming only one cell is prioritized) . - Nlayer, may be set according to the number of prioritized cells. - P may be omitted or may be set to 1.

[0171] Benefits As further described herein, example embodiments of the present disclosure may allow the network (e.g., on  request) to obtain a report from a UE without long delay for a specific cell / carrier, without reconfiguring the measurements at the UE. The network may use this feature to, e.g., obtain information about a cell quality in a faster manner, e.g. for mobility or carrier aggregation purposes. Further, example embodiments of the present disclosure may enable completion of certain procedures such as, e.g., SCell addition or activation to be completed faster than without (e.g., temporary) prioritization.
