[0053] In some example embodiments, if the first device 110 is a terminal device and the second device 120 is a network device, a link from the second device 120 to the first device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the first device 110 to the second device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the second device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the first device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the first device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the second device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0054] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0055] Reference is made to FIG. 1B, which illustrates an example network architecture 100B in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The network architecture 100B involves a plurality of communication devices, including a UE 101, a RAN device 102, a device implementing the CNAF (also referred to “CNAF” , for purpose of discussion) 103, a device implementing the IMS interworking function (IMSIF) 104 (also referred to as “IMSFIF 104” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing the UTF function (also referred to as “UTF” , for purpose of discussion) 105, a device implementing a proxy-call session control function (referred to as “P-CSCF” , for purpose of discussion) 106, a device implementing a interrogating / serving-call session control function (I / S-CSCF) 107, an application server 108, a device implementing a policy control function (PCF) 109 (also referred to as “PCF 109” , for purpose of discussion) , a home subscriber server (HSS) 111, a media function (MF) 112, a device implementing a data communications services function 113 (referred to as “DCSF 113” , for purpose of discussion) , and a device implementing the subscription and data management (SDM) function (also referred to as “SDM” , for purpose of discussion) 114. Additionally, the network architecture 100B may communicate with an external network 115.

[0056] The UE 101 may be an implementation of the first device 110 in FIG. 1A. The RAN device 102 may be an implementation of the second device 120 in FIG. 1A. The CNAF 103 may be an implementation of the third device 130 in FIG. 1A. The IMSIF 104 may be an implementation of the fourth device 140 in FIG. 1A. The UTF 105 may be an implementation of the fifth device 150 in FIG. 1A.

[0057] In the example of FIG. 1B, a plurality of devices including the UE 101, the RAN device 102, the CNAF 103, the IMSIF 104, the SDM 114, and the UTF 105 may be included in a system, for example, a packet switch (PS) system. The P-CSCF 106, the I / S-CSCF 107, the AS 108, the PCF 109, the HSS 111, the MF 112, and the DCSF 113 may be included in a further system, for example, an IMS. For purposes of discussion, the PS system of the network architecture 100B may be also referred to as a PS core network, and the IMS of the network architecture 100B may be also referred to as an IMS core network.

[0058] The PS core network of the network architecture 100B may include a bus structure. The devices implementing the network functions in the PS core network may communicate with each other via the bus structure (also referred to as the “bus” for purpose of discussion) . In some implementations, the network functions may be connected to the bus via a set of standardized protocols and interfaces , e.g., Ocnaf, Osdm, Oimsif. Additionally, interface O1 may be used between the UE 101 and the CNAF 103, the interface O2 may be used between the RAN device 102 and the CNAF 103, and the interface O3 may be used between the UTF 105 and the external network 115. The PS core network may be considered as a part of the 6G core network (6GC) .

[0059] Similarly, the IMS core network of the network architecture 100B may include a bus structure. The devices implementing the network functions in the IMS core network may communicate with each other via the bus structure (also referred to as the “bus” for purpose of discussion) . In some implementations, the network functions may be connected to the bus via a set of standardized protocols and interfaces , e.g., Npcf, Nhss ims, Nmf, and Nimsas.

[0060] Furthermore, from the perspective of the P-CSCF 106, the device communicate with the P-CSCF 106 may be considered as a UE. That is, for the P-CSCF 106, the data transmitted from the IMSIF 104 to the P-CSCF 106 may be considered as data from a UE, and the data transmitted from the P-CSCF 106 to the IMSIF 104 may be considered as data to a UE.

[0061] Furthermore, the UE 101 may provide the network service access to the user, e.g., IMS service. The RAN device 102 may provide the radio access between the UE 101 and the PS core network. The CNAF 103 may act as the signaling entrance of the PS core network from the RAN device 102 and UE 101 perspectives. In some embodiments, the CNAF 103 may distribute the received signaling from the RAN device 102 and the UE 101 to the corresponding core network functions. The CNAF 103 may be the core network signaling end point to the UE 101, where the 6G NAS protocol may be used between the CNAF 103 and the UE 101. The SDM 114 may store the UE subscriptions, static and dynamic data for the UE 101. The IMSIF 104 may interwork between the IMS core network and 6GC in the control plane. The UTF 105 may be used to manage the user traffic for the UE 101 accessing the external network 115, including user traffic connection establishment. The user traffic connection node between 3GPP core network and a network including IMS core network. From the perspective of the IMS core network, the IMSIF 104 may act as a UE.

[0062] The 5G architecture is defined as service-based and the interaction between network functions. Reference is made to FIG. 2A, which illustrates an example network architecture 200A of the 5G core network (5GC) . In the service-based architecture (SBA) 200A, network functions, for example, an access and mobility management function (AMF) , within the control plane enables other authorized network functions to access the services in the architecture. The service-based architecture also includes point-to-point reference points where necessary. The network functions within the 5GC control plane may only use service-based interfaces for interactions.

[0063] By performing a registration process to the 5GC, a UE may establish connectivity with the 5GC, enabling authentication, mobility management, and service access. Reference is made to FIG. 2B, which illustrates an example signaling flow 200B of registration to the 5G network. In the example of FIG. 2B, the UE may be registered to the 5GC and be able to access the services in the 5GC.

[0064] After the registration process, the UE may initiate a protocol data unit (PDU) session establishment process for non-roaming and roaming with local breakout. FIG. 2C illustrates an example signaling flow 200C of PDU session establishment in the 5G network. Based on the PDU session establishment process, the UE may be assigned with an IP address, for example, at 2010 in FIG. 2C. Upon receiving the IP address, the UE may transmit uplink data, for example, the first uplink data at 2020 in FIG. 2C.

[0065] The IMS may be supported by a service-based architecture. FIG. 2D illustrates an example architecture 200D of the IMS. As illustrated, there are protocols and interfaces between the devices implementing the network functions in the IMS. For example, the interface Npcf may be a service-based interface exhibited by a device implementing the PCF. The interface Nhss may be a service-based interface (SBI) exhibited by an SBI capable HSS. The SBI services including the PCF and the service of the HSS may provide equivalent functionality to the diameter Rx and Cx / Sh reference points.

[0066] Additionally, the interface Nimsas may be an SBI exhibited by an SBI capable IMS application server (AS) . The interface Nmf may be an SBI exhibited by a device implementing a MF. The SBI services including the service of the IMS AS and the MF may provide functionality to support data channel management and media handling in IMS network.

[0067] To support co-existence of IMS nodes supporting SBA services and IMS nodes not supporting SBA services, the SBI enabled IMS nodes may support both SBI and non-SBI interfaces. Moreover, an interface Nnrf may assist other IMS nodes to use network repository function (NRF) to perform registration, discovery, or selection.

[0068] The UE may perform a registration process to the IMS. FIG. 2E illustrates an example signaling flow 200E of registration to an IMS. As illustrated, in the example of FIG. 2E, the UE may transmit a “Register” message to a device implementing a proxy-call session control function (referred to as “P-CSCF” , for purpose of discussion) . The message may be transmitted via uplink data, for example, the first uplink data in the example of FIG. 2C. Additionally, the UE may receive a “200 OK” message as a response including the result of the registration.

[0069] For example, in the example of FIG. 2E, after the UE has obtained IP connectivity, it may perform the IP multimedia registration. The UE may send the register information flow to the proxy (public user identity, private user identity, home network domain name, UE IP address, instance identifier, or globally routable user agent uniform resource identifier (GRUU) support indication) .

[0070] Upon receipt of the register information flow, the P-CSCF may examine the "home domain name"to discover the entry point to the home network, i.e. the interrogating-call session control function (I-CSCF) . The proxy may send the register information flow to the I-CSCF (P-CSCF address / name, public user identity, private user identity, P-CSCF network identifier, or UE IP address) . A name-address resolution mechanism may be utilized in order to determine the address of the home network from the home domain name. The P-CSCF network identifier may be a string that identifies at the home network, the network where the P-CSCF is located (e.g. the P-CSCF network identifier may be the domain name of the P CSCF network) .

[0071] The I-CSCF may send the Cx-Query / Cx-Select-Pull information flow to the HSS (public user identity, private user identity, P-CSCF network identifier) . The HSS may check whether the user is registered already. The HSS may indicate whether the user is allowed to register in that P-CSCF network (identified by the P-CSCF network identifier) according to the user subscription and operator limitations / restrictions if any.

[0072] Cx-Query Resp / Cx-Select-Pull Resp may be sent from the HSS to the I-CSCF. It may contain the S-CSCF name, if it is known by the HSS, or the S-CSCF capabilities, if it is necessary to select a new S-CSCF. When capabilities are returned, the I-CSCF may construct a name from the capabilities returned. If the checking in HSS was not successful the Cx-Query Resp may reject the registration attempt.

[0073] The I-CSCF, using the name of the S-CSCF, may determine the address of the S-CSCF through a name-address resolution mechanism. The name-address resolution mechanism may be allowed to take the load information of the S-CSCFs (e.g. obtained using network management procedures) into consideration when deciding the address of the S-CSCF. The I-CSCF may also determine the name of a suitable home network contact point, possibly based on information received from the HSS. I-CSCF may then send the register information flow (P-CSCF address / name, public user identity, private user identity, P-CSCF network identifier, or UE IP address) to the selected S-CSCF. The home network contact point may be used by the P-CSCF to forward session initiation signaling to the home network.

[0074] The S-CSCF may reject the registration if the number of registered contact addresses for a public user identity from the same UE exceeds the limit of simultaneous registrations configured at the S-CSCF. The S-CSCF may also reject the registration from separate UEs if the allowed number of simultaneous registrations according to the S-CSCF configuration or per subscribed value for a public user identity received from the HSS exceeds the limit of simultaneous registrations. The S-CSCF may store the P-CSCF address / name, as supplied by the visited network. This represents the address / name that the home network forwards the subsequent terminating session signaling to the UE. The S-CSCF may store the P-CSCF network identification (ID) information.

[0075] The S-CSCF may send Cx-Put / Cx-Pull (public user identity, private user identity, or S-CSCF name) to the HSS. The HSS may store the S-CSCF name for that user and return the information flow Cx-Put Resp / Cx-Pull Resp (user information) to the S-CSCF. The user information passed from the HSS to the S-CSCF may include one or more names / addresses information which can be used to access the platform (s) used for service control while the user is registered at this S-CSCF. The S-CSCF may store the information for the indicated user. In addition to the names / addresses information, security information and the multimedia priority service (MPS) for messaging indication may also be sent for use within the S-CSCF.

[0076] Based on the filter criteria, the S-CSCF may send register information to the service control platform and perform whatever service control procedures are appropriate. The S-CSCF may return the 200 OK information flow (home network contact information, a GRUU set) to the I-CSCF. The I-CSCF may send information flow 200 OK (home network contact information, a GRUU set) to the P-CSCF. The I-CSCF may release all registration information after sending information flow 200 OK. The P-CSCF may store the home network contact information, and may send information flow 200 OK (aGRUU set) to the UE. The P-CSCF may subscribe to notifications of the status of the IMS signaling connectivity from policy and charging rules function (PCRF)  / policy control function (PCF) .

[0077] If the S-CSCF receives the priority information of the MPS subscribed-UE, including an MPS for Messaging indication, as a part of user profile from the HSS, the S-CSCF may provide the priority information to the P-CSCF and the P-CSCF may store this information for the MPS-subscribed UE.

[0078] After the UE is registered, any changes in the user profile in the HSS, including changes in the MPS subscription and / or MPS for messaging indication, may be propagated to the S-CSCF and the P-CSCF.

[0079] After the registration process, the UE may perform an IMS mobile origination procedure. FIG. 2F illustrates an example signaling flow 200F of the IMS mobile origination procedure. As illustrated, in the example of FIG. 2F, the UE may transmit a “invite” message to a device implementing a proxy-call session control function (referred to as “P-CSCF” , for purpose of discussion) .

[0080] In the example of FIG. 2F, UE may send the session initialization protocol (SIP) invite request, containing an initial session description protocol (SDP) , to the P-CSCF determined via the CSCF discovery mechanism. The initial SDP may represent one or more media for a multi-media session.

[0081] The P-CSCF may remember (from the registration procedure) the next hoP-CSCF for this UE. In this case it forwards the invite message to the S-CSCF in the home network.

[0082] The P-CSCF may determine whether the invite message requires priority handling based on user profile stored during the registration procedure and / or the priority requested by the user and / or MPS code / identifier included in the invite message. If the session is determined to require priority handling, then the P-CSCF may insert / replace the priority indication and forwards the invite message to the S-CSCF.

[0083] The S-CSCF may validate the service profile, if a GRUU is received as the contact, which ensures that the public user identity of the served user in the request and the public user identity associated with the GRUU belong to the same service profile. The S-CSCF may invoke any origination service logic required for the served user, which may include authorization of the requested SDP based on the user's subscription for multi-media services. If the request uniform resource identifier (URI) contains the SIP representation of an E. 164 address.

[0084] The S-CSCF may forward the request, as specified by Serving CSCF-to-Serving CSCF (S-S) procedures. When the invite message includes priority indication, the S-CSCF may forward the invite message, including the service user's priority level if available.

[0085] The media stream capabilities of the destination are returned along the signaling path, per the S-Sprocedures. The S-CSCF may forward the offer response message to the P-CSCF. The P-CSCF may instruct the PCRF / PCF to authorize the resources necessary for this session. The P-CSCF may forward the offer response message to the originating endpoint.

[0086] The UE may decide the offered set of media streams for this session. The UE may confirm the receipt of the offer response and may send the response confirmation to the P-CSCF. The response confirmation may also contain SDP, which may be the same SDP as in the offer response message received in Step 8 or a subset. If new media are defined by this SDP, a new authorization (as in Step 7) may be done following Step 14. The originating UE may be free to continue to offer new media on this operation or on subsequent exchanges using the Update method. Each offer / answer exchange may cause the P-CSCF to repeat the Step 7 again.

[0087] Depending on the bearer establishment mode selected for the IP connectivity access network (CAN) session, resource reservation may be initiated either by the UE or by the IP CAN itself. The UE may initiate resource reservation procedures for the offered media. Otherwise, the IP may initiate the reservation of required resources after step 7. The P-CSCF may forward this message to the S-CSCF. The S-CSCF may forward this message to the terminating endpoint, as per the S-Sprocedure. The terminating end point may respond to the originating end with an acknowledgement. If optional SDP is contained in the response confirmation message, the confirmation acknowledge message may also contain an SDP response. If the SDP has changed, the PCSCF may authorize the media.

[0088] The P-CSCF may forward the answered media towards the UE. When the resource reservation is completed, UE may send the successful resource reservation message to the terminating endpoint, via the signaling path established by the invite message. The message may be sent first to the P-CSCF. The terminating end point responds to the originating end when successful resource reservation has occurred. If the SDP has changed, the P-CSCF may again authorize that the resources are allowed to be used. The destination UE may optionally perform alerting. If so, it signals this to the originating party by a provisional response indicating ringing. This message may be sent to the S-CSCF per the S-Sprocedure. It may be sent from there toward the originating end along the signaling path.

[0089] The UE may indicate to the originating user that the destination is ringing. When the destination party answers, the terminating endpoint may send a SIP 200-OK final response message along the signaling path to the originating end, as specified by the termination procedures and the S-Sprocedures, to the S-CSCF. The P-CSCF may indicate that the media flows authorized for this session should now be enabled. The P-CSCF may pass the 200-OK response message back to the UE. The UE may start the media flow (s) for this session. The UE may respond to the 200 OK with an ACK message which is sent to P-CSCF and passed along the signaling path to the terminating end.

[0090] In a core network of a next generation to NR (e.g., the 6G) , facilitates system and network operation may include, for example, but not limited to, migration scenarios, network simplification, support of legacy services. There is a need to provide multimedia service to the user by the mobile operator in the next generation mobile network. The mechanism for the interworking between packet switch (PS) and IMS core network in the control plane for IMS registration service is to be studied. Specifically, the network architecture and functions for IMS registration service, the procedure of UE initiated 6G system (6GS) user traffic connection establishment for IMS service, and UE initiated IMS mobile origination procedure are to be developed.

[0091] Embodiments of the present disclosure propose a solution. In the solution, a new core network architecture and an SBA function user traffic function (UTF) are proposed. The UE may transmit, to a device implementing the UTF via a RAN device, a CNAF, and an IMSIF, a request including a service indication indicating the request is for an establishment of a user traffic connection of the UE to the IMS. After receiving the request, the device implementing the UTF may transmit a response to the request to the UE via the IMSIF, the CNAF, and the RAN.

[0092] Reference is made to FIG. 3, a signaling flow 300 of user traffic connection establishment for multimedia service in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the first device 110, the second device 120, the third device 130, the fourth device 140, and the fifth device 150.

[0093] In the example of FIG. 3, the first device 110 may be implemented as, for example, a terminal device. the second device 120 may be implemented as a RAN device, e.g., a gNB. the third device 130 may be implemented as a device implementing a CNAF. The fourth device 140 may be implemented as a device implementing the IMSIF. The fifth device 150 may be implemented as a device implementing the UTF.

[0094] In operation, the first device 110 transmits (3010) , to the second device 120, a request (referred to as “first request” , for purpose of discussion) . The first request includes a service indication indicating the first request is for an establishment of a user traffic connection of the first device 110 to a system (referred to as “first system” , for purpose of discussion) . The first device 110 has been registered to the first system. The first system includes or may be an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) . Correspondingly, the second device 120 receives (3020) the first request from the first device 110. The first request may further include an identification (ID) of the first device 110 in a second system. The second system may include or may be a packet switch (PS) system. In an example, the first request may include a UE ID in the PS system.

[0095] Then, the second device 120 transmits (3030) , to the third device 130, a second request for the establishment of the user traffic connection. The second request includes a service indication indicating the second request is for the establishment of the user traffic connection of the first device 110 to the first system. Correspondingly, the third device 130 receives (3040) the second request from the second device 120. In some embodiments, the second request may further include the identification of the first device 110 in the second system, for example, a UE ID in the PS system.

[0096] The third device 130 transmits (3050) , to the fourth device 140, a third request for the establishment of the user traffic connection. The third request includes a service indication indicating the fourth request is for the establishment of the user traffic connection of the first device 110 to the first system. Correspondingly, the fourth device 140 receives (3060) the third request from the third device 130. The third request may further include the identification of the first device 110 in the second system.

[0097] Subsequently, the fourth device 140 transmits (3070) , to the fifth device 150, a fourth request including a service indication indicating the fourth request is for the establishment of the user traffic connection of the first device 110 to the first system. Correspondingly, the fifth device 150 receives (3080) the fourth request from the fourth device 140.

[0098] Additionally, the fourth request may further include an identification of the first device 110 in the second system. The second system may include a packet switch (PS) system. The fourth request may further include an IP address of the first device 110, at least one second quality of service which is requested to the user traffic connection, a charging policy, and / or the like. For example, the second quality of service (QoS) may include max / minimum data rates, priority, delay / jitter time, etc.

[0099] After receiving the fourth request, the fifth device 150 transmits (3090) , to the fourth device 140, a fourth response to the fourth request. Correspondingly, the fourth device 140 may receive (3100) the fourth response from the fifth device 150.

[0100] Additionally, the fourth response may include the identification of the first device 110 in the second system, an identification of the user traffic connection in a user traffic function, at least one quality of service (QoS) (also referred to as first quality of service or first QoS) which is to be applied to the user traffic connection, and / or the like. For example, the first QoS may include max / minimum data rates, priority, delay / jitter time, etc. The radio connection configuration information may be used to update the radio resource allocation between RAN and UE with, e.g., a dedicated radio connection.

[0101] After receiving the fourth response, the fourth device 140 may transmit, to the third device 130, a third response to the third request. The third response may include the identification of the first device 110 in the second system, the identification of the user traffic connection in the user traffic function, the IP address of the first device 110, at least one first quality of service which is to be applied to the user traffic connection, and / or the like.

[0102] The third device 130 may receive the third response. Then, the third device 130 may transmit, to the second device 120, a second response to the second request. The second response may include the identification of the first device 110 in the second system, the identification of the user traffic connection in the user traffic function, the IP address of the first device 110, or at least one first quality of service which is to be applied to the user traffic connection.

[0103] After receiving the second response, the second device 120 may transmit, to the first device 110, a first response to the first request. The first response may include the IP address of the first device 110, at least one first quality of service which is to be applied to the user traffic connection, or radio connection configuration information for the user traffic connection. The radio connection configuration information may be used to update the radio resource allocation between RAN and UE with, e.g., a dedicated radio connection.

[0104] Additionally, after receiving the first response, the first device 110 may transmit, to the second device 120, a first complete message indicating that the connection establishment is completed via the user traffic connection. Correspondingly, the second device 120 may receive the first complete message from the first device 110. Then, the second device 120 may transmit, to the third device 130, via the user traffic connection, a second complete message including user traffic connection information indicating an end point of the user traffic connection in a radio access network. Specifically, the user traffic connection information may include an identification of the user traffic connection in the radio access network, an IP address of the second device 120, and / or the like.

[0105] The third device 130 may receive the second complete message. Subsequently, the third device 130 may transmit, to the fourth device 140, a third complete message. The third complete message may include the user traffic connection information. The fourth device 140 may receive the third complete message and may transmit, to the fifth device 150, a fourth complete message. The fourth complete message may include the user traffic connection information. Correspondingly, the fifth device 150 may receive the fourth complete message from the fourth device 140.

[0106] Moreover, in some embodiments, a mobile origination procedure initiated by the first device 110 may be performed. For example, the first device 110 may transmit, to the second device 120, first traffic for initiating a session with the first system via the user traffic connection. The first traffic may include an invite message.

[0107] The second device 120 may receive the first traffic from the first device 110. Then, the second device 120 may transmit, to the fifth device 150, second traffic for initiating the session with the first system via the user traffic connection. A source IP address of the second traffic may include an IP address of the second device 120, and a target IP address of the second traffic may include an IP address of the fifth device 150. The second traffic may include an invite message.

[0108] The fifth device 150 may receive the second traffic from the second device 120. Subsequently, the third device 150 may transmit, to a sixth device, third traffic for initiating the session with the first system via the user traffic connection. The sixth device may include a device implementing a proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF) .

[0109] In this case, the third traffic may include an invite message. Upon receiving the third traffic, the sixth device may transmit, to the fifth device 150, fourth traffic for initiating a session with the first system via the user traffic connection. The fifth device 150 may receive the fourth traffic from the sixth device. The fourth traffic may include a message corresponding to the invite message.

[0110] Then, the fifth device 150 may transmit, to the second device 120, fifth traffic for initiating the session with the first system via the user traffic connection. The fifth traffic may include a message corresponding to the invite message.

[0111] The second device 120 may receive the fifth traffic from the fifth device 150. Then, the second device 120 may transmit, to the first device 110, sixth traffic for initiating the session with the first system via the user traffic connection. The sixth traffic may include a message corresponding to the invite message. Correspondingly, the first device 110 may receive the sixth traffic from the second device 120.

[0112] In this way, the process of user traffic connection establishment may be performed. The user traffic connection between the first device 110 and the IMS may be established in an efficient way. Thus, the efficiency and the effectiveness of the process of user traffic connection establishment may be improved.

[0113] Before the user traffic connection establishment, the first device 110 may be registered to the first system, for example, the IMS. FIG. 4A illustrates an example signaling flow 400A of a registration to IMS in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0114] As illustrated, the FIG. 4A involves a UE 410, a RAN device 420 (also referred to as “RAN 420” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing a CNAF 430 (also referred to as “CNAF 430” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing an IMSFIF 440 (also referred to as “IMSIF 440” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing an SDM 450 (also referred to as “SDM 450” , for purpose of discussion) .

[0115] In FIG. 4A, the UE 410 may be considered as an implementation of the first device 110 in FIG. 1A. The RAN device 420 may be considered as an implementation of the second device 120 in FIG. 1A. The CNAF 430 may be considered as an implementation of the third device 130 in FIG. 1A. The IMSIF 440 may be considered as an implementation of the fourth device 140 in FIG. 1A.

[0116] For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 400A will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1B. The network architecture including the UE 410, the RAN 420, the CNAF 430, the IMSIF 440, and the SDM 450 may be implemented as the network architecture 100B in FIG. 1B. For example, the UE 410 may be an implementation of the UE 101 in FIG. 1B. The RAN 420 may be an implementation of the RAN 102 in FIG. 1B. The CNAF 430 may be an implementation of the CNAF 103 in FIG. 1B. The IMSIF 440 may be an implementation of the IMSIF 104 in FIG. 1B. The SDM 450 may be an implementation of SDM 114 in FIG. 1B.

[0117] In operation, at 4010, after the radio connection established between the UE 410 and the RAN 420, the UE 410 may send a registration request message for IMS registration to the RAN 420, which includes a PS UE identification (ID) , a service indication and an IMS registration message. The service indication may indicate that the registration request message is for IMS registration. The IMS registration message may be transparent to the RAN 420 or the CNAF 430. In some embodiments, the source and target IP address may be predetermined value, for example, “0.0.0.0” . The PS UE ID in the IMS registration message may include an IMS UE ID, which may be different from the PS UE ID in the registration request. Alternatively, the IMS UE ID may not be included in the IMS registration message.

[0118] At 4020, the RAN 420 may transmit a registration request message to the CNAF 430. Specifically, the service indication in the registration request message form the UE 410 may be interpreted by the RAN 420 to treat the registration request with the priority corresponding to the IMS registration service. The RAN 420 may send the registration request message to the CNAF 430, which may include the PS UE ID, the service indication for indicating the IMS registration, and an IMS registration message.

[0119] Subsequently, at 4030, the CNAF 430 may transmit a registration request message to the IMSIF 440. In some embodiments, based on the service indication received from the RAN 420, the CNAF 430 may understand that the service indication is for IMS registration. The CNAF 430 may send a registration request message to the IMSIF 440, which may include the PS UE ID and an IMS registration message. The IMS registration message from the CNAF 430 is the same as the one from the UE 410.

[0120] After receiving the registration request from the CNAF 430, at 4040, the IMSIF 440 may send a UE subscription request message to the SDM 450 to request UE subscription. The UE subscription may be an implementation of the subscription information of the UE 410. The UE subscription request message may include the PS UE ID and the IMS UE ID. In some embodiments, the UE subscription request message may include an integrated PS and IMS supporting indication indicating that the UE 410 supports the PS system and the IMS.

[0121] Then, in some embodiments, based on the PS UE ID and the IMS UE ID, the SDM 450 may not find the stored UE subscription, which means that the UE 410 may not be subscribed. In this case, at 4050, the SDM 450 may send a UE subscription response to the IMSIF 440 including information indicating that the UE subscription is not found.

[0122] In some implementations, the UE subscription request message received from the IMSIF may not include the integrated PS and IMS supporting indication. Based on the PS UE ID and the IMS UE ID, the SDM 450 may find the UE subscription indicating that the UE 410 supports the PS system but the SDM 450 is not able to find the UE subscription indicating that the UE 410 supports the IMS. For example, the SDM 450 may find a PS subscription of the UE 410 and may not find an IMS subscription of the UE 410.

[0123] In this case, at 4050, the SDM 450 may send a UE subscription response to the IMSIF 440 including the UE subscription indicating that the UE 410 supports the PS system. In some implementations, the UE subscription included in the UE subscription response may also indicate that the UE 410 does not support the IMS.

[0124] After receiving the UE subscription response from the SDM 450, based on the information in the UE subscription response and / or the UE subscription, the IMSIF 440 may determine that the registration result of the UE 410 as failed. At 4080, the IMSIF 440 may send a registration response message to the CNAF 430 with the registration result. Based on the registration result received from the IMSIF 440 indicating that the registration is failed, the CNAF 430 may release the UE context of the UE 410 right now or after some time, e.g., configured by the operators.

[0125] Additionally, at 4090, the CNAF 430 may send a registration response message to the RAN 420 with the registration result. If the result is successful, the RAN may keep the UE context for the future usage. Based on the registration result received from the CNAF 430 indicating that the registration is failed, the CNAF 430 may release the UE context of the UE 410 right now or after some time, e.g., configured by the operators.

[0126] Then, at 4100, the RAN 420 may send the registration response to the UE 410 with the registration result.

[0127] In this way, the registration process may be performed in an efficient way. The UE 410 may try to register to the IMS via the IMSIF 440. The registration result may be determined by the IMSIF 440 and received by the UE 410. The complexity of the registration process may be reduced. Thus, the flexibility and the efficiency of the registration process may be improved.

[0128] Reference is made to FIG. 4B, which illustrates an example signaling flow 400B of a registration to IMS in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0129] Similar to the example of FIG. 4A, the example of FIG. 4B also involves the UE 410, the RAN 420, the CNAF 430, the IMSIF 440, and the SDM 450. Specifically, the UE 410 may be an implementation of the UE 101 in FIG. 1B. Additionally, the example of FIG. 4B further involves a device implementing a P-CSCF (also referred to as “P-CSCF” , for purpose of discussion) 460. The P-CSCF 460 may be an implementation of the P-CSCF 106 in FIG. 1B. Different from the example of FIG. 4A, in the embodiments discussed with respect to FIG. 4B, the P-CSCF 460 may be involved to determine whether the IMS registration is successful and notify the IMS registration result to other devices, such as the IMSIF 440.

[0130] At 4510, the UE 410 may send a registration request message for IMS registration to the RAN 420. This step is similar to 4010 and thus will not be repeated here. Then, at 4520, the RAN 420 may transmit a registration request message to the CNAF 430. This step is similar to 4020 and thus will not be repeated here.

[0131] At 4530, the CNAF 430 may transmit a registration request message to the IMSIF 440. This step is similar to 4030 and thus will not be repeated here. Then, at 4540, the IMSIF 440 may send a UE subscription request message to the SDM 450. This step is similar to 4040 and thus will not be repeated here.

[0132] Then, in some embodiments, based on the PS UE ID and the IMS UE ID, the SDM 450 may find the UE subscription of the UE 410 including a PS subscription and the integrated PS and IMS supporting indication in the stored UE subscriptions. Then, at 4550, the SDM 450 may send a UE subscription response message to the IMSIF 440. The UE subscription response message may include the UE subscription of the UE 410. The IMSIF 440 may authenticate and authorize the UE 410 with the PS subscription.

[0133] If the UE 410 is authenticated and authorized successfully, based on the integrated PS and IMS supporting indication, the IMSIF 440 may send an IMS registration request message to the P-CSCF 460 at 4560. If the UE 410 is not authenticated or authorized successfully. The IMSIF 440 may determine that the registration result is failed and may not send the IMS registration request message.

[0134] Alternatively, based on the PS UE ID and the IMS UE ID, the SDM 450 may find the UE subscription of the UE 410 including a PS subscription and an IMS subscription in the stored UE subscriptions. The IMSIF 440 may authenticate and authorize the UE 410 with the PS subscription and IMS subscription.

[0135] If the UE 410 is authenticated and authorized successfully on both the PS subscription and the IMS subscription, the IMSIF 440 may send an IMS registration request message to the P-CSCF 460 at 4560. If the UE 410 is not authenticated and authorized successfully on any of the PS subscription and the IMS subscription. The IMSIF may determine that the registration result is failed and may not send the IMS registration request message.

[0136] At 4560, the IMSIF 440 may select an IPv4 / v6 address / prefix pre-configured in the IMSIF 440 for the UE 410, and send an IMS registration request message to the P-CSCF 460. The IMS registration request message may include the IMS registration message from the UE 410 in the procedure of 4510. In some implementations, the IMS registration request message may be transmitted by using the selected IP address to replace 0.0.0.0 as the source IP address of the IMS registration message. The P-CSCF information (e.g. IP address) may be preconfigured in the IMSIF 440. The IP address of the P-CSCF 460 may be used to replace 0.0.0.0 as the target IP address of the IMS registration message.

[0137] After receiving the IMS registration request message, the P-CSCF 460 may perform the UE registration in IMS domain and determine an IMS registration result as successful or failed. Then, at 4570, the P-CSCF 460 may send an IMS registration response message with the registration result of the IMS registration to the IMSIF 440, which may be successful (e.g., a “200 OK” message) or failed.

[0138] In some implementations, the UE subscription of the UE 410 may include a PS subscription and the integrated PS and IMS supporting indication. In this case, if the UE 410 is authenticated and authorized successfully, the IMSIF 440 may send an IMS registration request message to the P-CSCF 460 at 4560. Then, the P-CSCF 460 determines that the IMS registration result is successful, and send the IMS registration response including the registration result to the IMSIF 440 at 4570. Subsequently, the IMSIF 440 may send a registration response to the CNAF 430 including a registration result indicating that both the PS and IMS registration are successful for the UE 410. In the following procedures, the registration result may be further transmitted to other devices.

[0139] Alternatively, the P-CSCF 460 may determine that the IMS registration result is failed, and may send the IMS registration response including the registration result to the IMSIF 440 at 4570. Subsequently, the IMSIF 440 may send a registration response to the CNAF 430 including a registration result indicating that the PS registration is successful but the IMS registration is failed for the UE 410. In the following procedures, the registration result may be further transmitted to other devices.

[0140] In some embodiments, the UE subscription may include a PS subscription and an IMS subscription in the stored UE subscriptions. In this case, if the UE 410 is authenticated and authorized successfully on both the PS subscription and the IMS subscription, the IMSIF 440 may send an IMS registration request message to the P-CSCF 460 at 4560. Then, if both the IMS registration and the PS registration is determined to be successful by the P-CSCF 460, the P-CSCF 460 may send the IMS registration response including the registration result to the IMSIF 440 at 4570. The IMSIF 440 may send a registration response to the CNAF 430 including a registration result indicating that both the PS and IMS registration are successful for the UE 410. In the following procedures, the registration result may be further transmitted to other devices.

[0141] Alternatively, if the UE 410 is not authenticated and authorized successfully on any of the PS subscription and the IMS subscription. The IMSIF may determine that the registration result is failed and may not send the IMS registration request message. In this case, the IMSIF 440 may send, to the CNAF 430, a registration response message including the registration result indicate that the registration is failed.

[0142] Specifically, the registration result may include a PS registration failure or an IMS registration failure based on authentication or authorization on which of the PS subscription and the IMS subscription is failed. For example, the registration result may include a PS registration failure if the UE 410 fails to be authenticated or authorized with the PS subscription. Alternatively or in addition, the registration result may include an IMS registration failure if the UE 410 fails to be authenticated or authorized with the IMS subscription. In the following procedures, the registration result may be further transmitted to other devices.

[0143] At 4580, the IMSIF 440 may send a registration response message to the CNAF 430 with the registration result. Based on the registration result received from the IMSIF 440 indicating that the registration is failed, the CNAF 430 may release the UE context of the UE 410 right now or after some time, e.g., configured by the operators. In some embodiments, if both of the PS registration and the IMS registration are failed, the CNAF 430 may release the UE context.

[0144] At 4590, the CNAF 430 may send a registration response message to the RAN 420 with the registration result. Based on the registration result received from the CNAF 430 indicating that the registration is failed, the RAN 430 may release the UE context of the UE 410 right now or after some time, e.g., configured by the operators. In some embodiments, if both of the PS registration and the IMS registration are failed, the RAN 420 may release the UE context.

[0145] Then, at 4600, the RAN 420 may send a registration response to the UE 410 with the registration result.

[0146] In this way, the registration process may be performed in an efficient way. The UE 410 may try to register to the IMS via the IMSIF 440. The registration result may be determined by the IMSIF 440 and the P-CSCF 460 and received by the UE 410. Additionally, the registration of to the PS system and the IMS may be performed in a single process. The complexity of the registration process may be reduced. Thus, the flexibility and the efficiency of the registration process may be improved.

[0147] Reference is made to FIG. 5, which illustrates an example signaling flow 500 of user traffic connection establishment for IMS in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The example embodiments discussed with respect to FIG. 5 may be implementations of the example embodiments discussed with reference to FIG. 3. The signaling flow 500 may be considered as subsequent procedures of the registration procedures as discussed with respect to FIGS. 4A and 4B. That is, after the registration procedures, the user traffic connection may be established for IMS.

[0148] As illustrated, the FIG. 5 involves a UE 510, a RAN device 520 (also referred to as “RAN 520” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing a CNAF 530 (also referred to as “CNAF 530” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing an IMSFIF 540 (also referred to as “IMSIF 540” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing an UTF 550 (also referred to as “UTF 550” , for purpose of discussion) .

[0149] In FIG. 5, the UE 510 may be considered as an implementation of the first device 110 in FIG. 1A. The RAN device 520 may be considered as an implementation of the second device 120 in FIG. 1A. The CNAF 530 may be considered as an implementation of the third device 130 in FIG. 1A. The IMSIF 540 may be considered as an implementation of the fourth device 140 in FIG. 1A. The UTF 550 may be considered as an implementation of the fifth device 150 in FIG. 1A.

[0150] For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 500 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1B. The network architecture including the UE 510, the RAN 520, the CNAF 530, the IMSIF 540, and the UTF 550 may be implemented as the network architecture 100B in FIG. 1B. For example, the UE 510 may be an implementation of the UE 101 in FIG. 1B. The RAN 520 may be an implementation of the RAN 102 in FIG. 1B. The CNAF 530 may be an implementation of the CNAF 103 in FIG. 1B. The IMSIF 540 may be an implementation of the IMSIF 104 in FIG. 1B. The UTF 550 may be an implementation of UTF 105 in FIG. 1B.

[0151] In operation, at 5010, after the IMS registration, the UE 510 may send a user traffic connection request message to the RAN 520 with PS UE ID and service indication for IMS user traffic connection. The service indication in the message may indicate that the user traffic connection request message is for the establishment of the user traffic connection of the UE 510 to the IMS.

[0152] Then, at 5020, the RAN 520 may interpret the service indication for IMS user traffic connection, and may treat the signaling with higher priority than other non-IMS user traffic connections. The RAN 520 may verify the stored UE context to find the UE status of the UE 510 is IMS registered. Then, the RAN 520 may send a user traffic connection request message to the CNAF 530 with PS UE ID and service indication for IMS user traffic connection.

[0153] Subsequently, at 5030, based on the received service indication for IMS user traffic connection, the CNAF 530 may interpret the user traffic connection request message for IMS user traffic connection, and may treat the signaling with higher priority than other non-IMS user traffic connections. The CNAF 530 may verify the stored UE context to find the UE status of the UE 510 is IMS registered. Then, the CNAF 530 may send a user traffic connection request message to the IMSIF 540 with PS UE ID and service indication for IMS user traffic connection.

[0154] At 5040, based on the received service indication for IMS user traffic connection, the IMSIF 540 may interpret the user traffic connection request message for IMS user traffic connection, and may send a user traffic connection establishment request message to the UTF 550 with PS UE ID, UE IP address, service indication, QoS, charging policy, and / or the like.

[0155] For example, the UE IP address may be the same as the source IP address used for IMS registration mentioned above. The QoS and charging policy may be from the UE subscription in the process of IMS registration, or may be preconfigured in the IMSIF 540 for the IMS user traffic connection. Additionally, the QoS in the user traffic connection establishment request may be the QoS requested to the user traffic connection. The QoS may include be max / minimum data rates, priority, delay / jitter time, etc.

[0156] Subsequently, at 5050, the UTF 550 may allocate the user traffic resource with the UE IP address and the QoS received at 5040. The user traffic connection ID in the UTF 550 may be allocated to mark the user traffic resource in the UTF 550, which may include the UTF IP address and a connection ID. The UTF 550 may send a user traffic connection establishment response message to the IMSIF 540 with PS UE ID, user traffic connection ID in the UTF 550, applied QoS, and / or the like. The applied QoS may be different with requested QoS at 5050, e.g., when the UTF 550 may not support the requested QoS.

[0157] At 5060, the IMSIF 540 may send a user traffic connection response message to the CNAF 530 with PS UE ID, UTF IP address, user traffic connection ID in the UTF 550, UE IP address, QoS, and / or the like. The UE IP address may be same as the one at 5040. The QoS may be the same as the one at 5050.

[0158] Then, at 5070, the CNAF 530 may send a user traffic connection response message to the RAN 520 with PS UE ID, UTF IP address / User traffic connection ID in the UTF 550, UE IP address, QoS, which are same as those received at 5060.

[0159] At 5080, the RAN 520 may interpret the user traffic connection ID in the UTF 550 as the following uplink data forwarding target. The RAN 520 may interpret the QoS for the following radio resource allocation between the RAN 520 and the UE 510, e.g., to allocate a dedicated radio connection resource to guarantee the QoS for the IMS user traffic. The RAN 520 may send a user traffic connection response message to the UE 510 with UE IP address, QoS, radio connection configuration update. The radio connection configuration update may be used to update the radio resource allocation between the RAN 520 and the UE 510 with , e.g., a dedicated radio connection. The UE IP address and QoS are the same as those received at 5070.

[0160] Subsequently, at 5090, based on the user traffic connection response message received at 5080, the UE 510 may configure the UE IP address internally for the IP traffic as the source address. The UE 510 may also store and apply the QoS in the user traffic connection. The UE 510 may update the radio resource configuration based on the radio connection configuration update. Then, the UE 510 may send a user traffic connection establishment complete message to the RAN 520 to indicate the user traffic connection completion in the UE 510 side.

[0161] Subsequently, at 5100, the RAN 520 may allocate a user traffic connection ID in the RAN 520, then may send a user traffic connection establishment complete message to the CNAF 530 with user traffic connection ID in the RAN 520, which may indicate the end point of the user traffic connection in the RAN 520 side between the RAN 520 and the UTF 530. The user traffic connection ID in the RAN 520 may be allocated to mark the user traffic resource in the RAN 520, which may include the RAN IP address of the RAN 520 and a connection ID.

[0162] Then, at 5110, the CNAF 530 may send a user traffic connection establishment complete message with the user traffic connection ID in the RAN 520 to the IMSIF 540. After receiving the message, at 5120, the IMSIF 540 may send a user traffic connection establishment complete message with the user traffic connection ID in the RAN 520 to the UTF 550.

[0163] In this way, the process of user traffic connection establishment may be performed. The user traffic connection between the UE 510 and the IMS may be established in an efficient way. Thus, the efficiency and effectiveness of the process of user traffic connection establishment may be improved.

[0164] In addition to the above, in some embodiments, the UE 510 may initiate an IMS mobile origination procedure. Reference is made to FIG. 6, which illustrates an example signaling flow 600 of IMS mobile origination procedure in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated, the FIG. 6 involves a UE 610, a RAN device 620 (also referred to as “RAN 620” , for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing an UTF 650 (also referred to as “UTF 650” , for purpose of discussion) , and a device implementing a P-CSCF (also referred to as “P-CSCF 660” , for purpose of discussion) .

[0165] In FIG. 6, the UE 610 may be considered as an implementation of the first device 110 in FIG. 1A. The RAN device 620 may be considered as an implementation of the second device 120 in FIG. 1A. The UTF 650 may be considered as an implementation of the fifth device 150 in FIG. 1A.

[0166] For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 600 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1B. The network architecture including the UE 610, the RAN 620, the UTF 650, and the P-CSCF 660 may be implemented as the network architecture 100B in FIG. 1B. For example, the UE 610 may be an implementation of the UE 101 in FIG. 1B. The RAN 620 may be an implementation of the RAN 102 in FIG. 1B. The UTF 650 may be an implementation of UTF 105 in FIG. 1B. The P-CSCF 660 may be an implementation of the P-CSCF 106 in FIG. 1B.

[0167] In operation, at 6010, after the user traffic connection establishment, the UE 610 may use the UE IP address as the source address and the IP address of the P-CSCF 660 as the target address to send an IMS invite message as the UE uplink traffic via the established user traffic connection. In some embodiments, the IP address of the P-CSCF 660 may be pre-configured. The uplink traffic may use the configured radio resource with the corresponding QoS.

[0168] Then, at 6020, the RAN 620 may send the UE uplink traffic to the UTF 650 via the established user traffic connection to encapsulate the UE uplink traffic (i.e., the IMS invite message) with a source address / ID and a target address / ID. The source address / ID may be the user traffic connection ID in the RAN 620 in the process of user traffic connection establishment, for example, the user traffic connection ID in the RAN in the user traffic connection establishment complete message at 5100 in FIG. 5. The target address / ID may be the user traffic connection ID in the UTF 650 in the process of user traffic connection establishment, for example, the user traffic connection ID in the UTF in the user traffic connection establishment response message at 5050 in FIG. 5.

[0169] Subsequently, at 6030, the UTF 650 may send the UE uplink traffic (i.e., the IMS invite message) to the P-CSCF 660. The source address of the uplink traffic may be the address (e.g., the IP address) of the UE 610 and the target address of the uplink traffic may be the address (e.g., the IP address) of the P-CSCF 660.

[0170] Then, at 6040, the P-CSCF 660 may treat the IMS invite message as the existing IMS procedure. The P-CSCF 660 may send the downlink traffic (including IMS messages according to the IMS invite message) to the UTF 650. The source IP address of the downlink traffic may be the IP address of the P-CSCF 660, and the target IP address of the downlink traffic may be the IP address of the UE 610 in the IMS invite message.

[0171] The UTF 650 may send the downlink traffic to the UE 610 via the RAN 620. In particular, at 6050, the UTF 650 may send the downlink traffic to the RAN 620 using the established user traffic connection to encapsulate the UE downlink traffic (including the IMS messages according to the IMS invite message) with a source address / ID and a target address / ID. The target address / ID may be the user traffic connection ID in the RAN 620 in the process of user traffic connection establishment, for example, the user traffic connection ID in the RAN in the user traffic connection establishment complete message at 5100 in FIG. 5. The source address / ID may be the user traffic connection ID in the UTF 650 in the process of user traffic connection establishment, for example, the user traffic connection ID in the UTF in the user traffic connection establishment response message at 5050 in FIG. 5.

[0172] At 6060, the RAN 620 may send the downlink traffic to the UE 610 including the IMS messages according to the IMS invite message. The downlink traffic may use the established user traffic connection via the radio connection between the UE 610 and the RAN 620.

[0173] Subsequently, at 6070, the IMS processing between the UE 610 and the RAN 620 may be performed.

[0174] In this way, the IMS mobile origination procedure may be performed based on the user traffic connection in an efficient way. Thus, the , the efficiency of the IMS processing based on the user traffic connection establishment may be improved.
