Abstract

A method is provided. The method includes receiving indication information indicative of a time domain spreading code for random access, the time domain spreading code based on a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence or an M sequence; and transmitting a random access (RA) preamble using the time domain spreading code. The time domain spreading code based on the ZC sequence or the M sequence has good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation, and the time domain spreading code may adapt well to changes in time domain environment. Thus, it may be possible to improve anti-interference of random access channel, reduce interference between multiple terminal devices, and improve communication between a network device and terminal devices.

COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS

[0001] This application claims the benefit of and priority to US patent application No. 63 / 755,835, filed on February 7, 2025, the content of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication technology, and in particular, to communication methods and apparatuses.BACKGROUND

[0003] A time domain-based orthogonal cover code (OCC) is a technique or scheme for multiplexing data streams or users. The time domain OCC may be applied at various time unit granularities, such as between slots, between symbols, and so on. Therefore, at the same time and at the same frequency, by using the time domain OCC, simultaneous transmission of two users can be accommodated. Therefore, the capacity of the system is doubled.

[0004] With time domain OCC, the basic assumption that there is no interference between UEs is that the channel does not change between the symbols using OCC. However, if the channel changes between symbols due to the impact of frequency offset or Doppler, interference is introduced between UEs, which greatly affects receiver performance.SUMMARY

[0005] The present disclosure provides communication methods and apparatuses, so as to provide time domain spreading codes based on a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence or an M sequence for communication between terminal devices and a network device.

[0006] According to a first aspect, a method for a device is described. The method may be applied at a terminal side, for example, a terminal or a module in a terminal, a circuit or a chip (for example, a modem chip, also referred to as a baseband chip, or a system on chip (SoC) chip or a system in package (SIP) chip that includes a modem core) that is responsible for a communication function in a terminal.

[0007] In some aspects of the disclosure, a communication method is provided. The method includes: receiving indication information indicative of a time domain spreading code for random access, the time domain spreading code based on a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence or an M sequence; and transmitting a random access (RA) preamble using the time domain spreading code.

[0008] In the embodiments of the present disclosure, the network device transmits indication information to terminal devices, the indication information being indicative of a time domain spreading code for random access of each of the terminal devices; and the terminal device transmits the RA preamble using the time domain spreading code to the network device. In the embodiments of the present disclosure, the time domain spreading code is based on the ZC sequence or the M sequence. The ZC sequence has good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation. The M sequence is a pseudo-random sequence, which is easy to generate and has good regularity, good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation. Therefore, the time domain spreading code based on the ZC sequence or the M sequence has good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation, and the time domain spreading code may adapt well to changes in time domain environment. Thus, it may be possible to improve anti-interference of random access channel, reduce interference between multiple terminal devices, and improve communication between the network device and the terminal devices.

[0009] In some possible implementations, the time domain spreading code is further based on a length and root of the ZC sequence, and the length of the ZC sequence is related to a symbol length of the RA preamble.

[0010] The symbol length of the RA preamble may be predefined or preconfigured.

[0011] In a possible implementation, the symbol length of the RA preamble is a prime number, and value of the root of the ZC sequence are prime numbers which are the symbol length of the RA preamble, the prime numbers are smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble.

[0012] In the case where the symbol length of the RA preamble is a prime number, the root of the ZC sequence is equal to the symbol length of the RA preamble minus 1. For example, when the symbol length of the RA preamble is 7, the root of the ZC sequence is equal to 6; therefore, the value of the root of the ZC sequence may be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. For the communication scenario of multiple terminal devices, since the values of the roots of the plurality of ZC sequences are not equal to each other, the values of the roots of the ZC sequences of all terminal devices are different, and the time domain spreading codes of multiple terminal devices based on the roots of the ZC sequences have good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation.

[0013] In some possible implementations, the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, and the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a total quantity of all prime numbers which are smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble.

[0014] In a possible implementation, in the case where the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, a quantity of prime numbers which are smaller than the symbol length is not fixed. For example, when the symbol length of the RA preamble is 14, the quantity of prime numbers which are smaller than 14 is 7, and a sequence of prime numbers which are smaller than 14 is {1 3 5 7 9 11 13} . The root of the ZC sequence is equal to 7, and the value of the root of the ZC sequence may be a value in the sequence of prime numbers. Since the values of the roots of the plurality of ZC sequences are not equal to each other, the time domain spreading codes based on the roots of the ZC sequences may have good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation.

[0015] In some possible implementations, the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, and the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a largest prime number which is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, or the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a smallest prime number which is greater than the symbol length of the RA preamble.

[0016] In another possible implementation, in the case where the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, the length of the ZC sequence may be equal to the largest prime number which is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, or may be the smallest prime number which is greater than the symbol length of the RA preamble. For example, when the symbol length of the RA preamble is 14, the length of the ZC sequence may be equal to the largest prime number (i.e., 13) which is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, the ZC sequence is {1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13} , and the root of the ZC sequence is equal to 13; alternatively, the length of the ZC sequence may be equal to the smallest prime number (i.e., 17) which is greater than the symbol length of the RA preamble, and the ZC sequence is {1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17} . Therefore, the root of the ZC sequence may be increased. That is, a quantity of time domain spreading codes may be increased. Accordingly, a quantity of terminal devices used in the method in the embodiments of the present disclosure may be increased. Therefore, more terminal devices can communicate with the network device.

[0017] In some possible implementations, the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the M sequence and an identifier (ID) of the terminal device.

[0018] For example, the time domain spreading code may be determined by cyclically shifting the M sequence using the ID of the terminal device. The M sequence is a pseudo-random sequence, which is easy to generate and has good regularity, good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation, so that the time domain spreading code has good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation.

[0019] In some possible implementations, a length of the M sequence is greater than a symbol length of the RA preamble, and the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the ID of the terminal device and a modified sequence which is obtained by removing some elements from the M sequence.

[0020] The M sequence may be predefined. A list of set of M sequence may be predefined. When the symbol length of the RA preamble is not same as the length of M sequence, based on some pre-defined rule, the sequence used may be based on one of the set of M sequence. In the case where the length of the M sequence is greater than the symbol length of the RA preamble, the modified sequence is obtained by removing some elements from the M sequence. By removing some elements, a quantity of elements in the sequence may be more matched with the symbol length of the RA preamble, so that the length of the time domain spreading code determined through the cyclic shift based on the ID of the terminal device and the modified sequence may be more matched with the length of the RA preamble. Thereby, the success of transmission of the RA preamble may be improved.

[0025] The terminal device transmits the report information to the network device to inform the network device that the terminal device is currently in the NTN. When the terminal device is currently in the NTN, the network device may transmit the indication information to the terminal device, indicating the time domain spreading code used by the RA preamble. Since the NTN has the characteristics of high-speed moving and the channel changes rapidly, there is a need to use the time domain spreading code with good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation for random access. Therefore, in the embodiments of the present disclosure, the time domain spreading code is used in the NTN, which may improve the anti-interference of the random access channel, reduce the interference between multiple terminal devices, and in turn improve the communication between the network device and the terminal devices.

[0026] In some other possible implementations, when the terminal device is in the high-speed moving use-case, the network device may transmit the indication information to the terminal device, indicating the time domain spreading code used by the random access preamble. In the high-speed moving use-case, the channel changes rapidly, and there is a need to use the time domain spreading code with good autocorrelation and good cross-correlation for random access. Therefore, in the embodiments of the present disclosure, the time domain spreading code is used in the high-speed moving use-case, which may improve the communication between the network device and the terminal devices.

[0076] FIG. 1 is a schematic illustration of an example communication system according to an implementation of the present disclosure, there is shown a communication system 100 that includes a radio access network (RAN) 120, one or more communication electronic devices (EDs) 110a, 110b, 110c, 110d, 110e, 110f, 110g, 110h, 110i, 110j (collectively referred to as 110) , a core network 130, a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) 140, the Internet 150, and other networks 160 . The RAN 120 may include, but is not limited to, a future generation RAN, or a RAN such as, but not limited to, 5th generation (5G) , 4th generation (4G) , 3rd generation (3G) or 2nd generation (2G) radio access network. The RAN 120 may be, for example, an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) , a NextGen RAN (NG RAN) , or some other type of RAN. Examples of RAN 120 based on the evolution of telecommunications standards include, but is not limited to, GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) for 2G, UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) based on WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and CDMA2000 for 3G, LTE (Long-Term Evolution) and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) for 4G, and NR (New Radio) for 5G. In some implementations, The RAN 120 may use any radio access technology (RAT) in the wireless interface between the one or more EDs 110 and the RAN 120. In some implementations, the term “radio access” may refer to the future generation air interface standards which may include both terrestrial networks (TNs) and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) . These networks will be described in greater detail below in conjunction with various implementations. The one or more communication EDs 110 (also referred to as “user equipment” ) are configured to connect (e.g., communicatively couple) with each other or to one or more network nodes 170a, 170b (collectively referred to as 170) in the RAN 120. The core network (CN) 130 is a part of the communication system 100 and includes of network nodes (e.g., 170a, 170b) which provide support for the network features and telecommunication services. In some implementations, the CN 130 may be dependent on the RAT used in the communication system 100. In other implementations, the CN 130 may be access-agnostic, i.e., the CN 130 may be independent of the RAT used in the communication system 100. There are different types of CN 130, for different 3GPP system generations. For example, the CN 130 is the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) in 4G, also known as the Evolved Packet System (EPS) . In another example, the CN 130 is the 5G Core (5GC) which was developed as part of the 5G System (5GS) . The CN 130 also enables integration of different 3GPP and non-3GPP access types. In some implementations and referring to FIG. 1, the CN 130 also provides the interface towards external networks that may include the PSTN 140, the Internet 150, and other networks 160 in the communication system 100.

[0077] In general, the communication system 100 facilitates interaction between multiple wireless or wired elements. The communication system 100 may transmit different types of content, such as voice, data, video, and / or text, through different transmission methods such as, but not limited to, broadcast, multicast, groupcast, and unicast. Additionally, the communication system 100 operates by allocating and / or sharing resources, such as carrier spectrum bandwidth, among its constituent elements.

[0079] The communication system 100 may include a terrestrial communication system (or network) and / or a non-terrestrial communication system (or network) . The communication system 100 may provide a high degree of availability and robustness through a joint operation of the terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system. For example, integrating a non-terrestrial communication system (or components thereof) into a terrestrial communication system can result in a heterogeneous network including multiple layers. The heterogeneous network may achieve better overall performance through efficient multi-link joint operation, more flexible functionality sharing, and faster physical layer link switching between terrestrial networks and non-terrestrial networks. The terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system could be considered as sub-systems of the communication system 100.

1.A communication method, comprising:receiving indication information indicative of a time domain spreading code for random access, the time domain spreading code based on a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence or an M sequence; andtransmitting a random access (RA) preamble using the time domain spreading code.2.The method of claim 1, wherein the time domain spreading code is further based on a length and root of the ZC sequence, and the length of the ZC sequence is related to a symbol length of the RA preamble.3.The method of claim 2, wherein the symbol length of the RA preamble is a prime number, and the root of the ZC sequence is equal to a number obtained by subtracting 1 from the symbol length of the RA preamble.4.The method of claim 2, wherein the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, and value of the root of the ZC sequence are prime numbers which are the symbol length of the RA preamble, the prime numbers are smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble.5.The method of claim 2, wherein the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, and the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a largest prime number which is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, or the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a smallest prime number which is greater than the symbol length of the RA preamble.6.The method of claim 1, wherein the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the M sequence and an identifier (ID) of a terminal device.7.The method of claim 6, wherein a length of the M sequence is greater than a symbol length of the RA preamble, and the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the ID of the terminal device and a modified sequence which is obtained by removing some elements from the M sequence.8.The method of claim 6, wherein the length of the M sequence is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, and the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the ID of the terminal device and a modified sequence which is obtained by adding some elements into the M sequence.9.The method of any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein before receiving the indication information, the method further comprises:transmitting report information for indicating that the terminal device is currently in a non-terrestrial network (NTN) .10.A communicating method, comprising:transmitting indication information indicative of a time domain spreading code for random access, the time domain spreading code based on a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence or an M sequence; andreceiving random access (RA) preambles.11.The method of claim 10, wherein the time domain spreading code used by each terminal device is further based on a length and root of the ZC sequence, and the length of the ZC sequence is related to a symbol length of a RA preamble of the terminal device.12.The method of claim 11, wherein the symbol length of the RA preamble is a prime number, and the root of the ZC sequence is equal to a number obtained by subtracting 1 from the symbol length of the RA preamble.13.The method of claim 11, wherein the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, and value of the root of the ZC sequence are prime numbers which are the symbol length of the RA preamble, the prime numbers are smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble.14.The method of claim 11, wherein the symbol length of the RA preamble is not a prime number, and the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a largest prime number which is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, or the length of the ZC sequence is equal to a smallest prime number which is greater than the symbol length of the RA preamble.15.The method of claim 10, wherein the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the M sequence and an identifier (ID) of a terminal device.16.The method of claim 15, wherein a length of the M sequence is greater than a symbol length of the RA preamble, and the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the ID of the terminal device and a modified sequence which is obtained by removing some elements from the M sequence.17.The method of claim 15, wherein the length of the M sequence is smaller than the symbol length of the RA preamble, and the time domain spreading code is determined through a cyclic shift based on the ID of the terminal device and a modified sequence which is obtained by adding some elements into the M sequence.18.The method of any one of claims 10 to 17, further comprising:obtaining a plurality of correlation sequences by calculating a correlation between the RA preambles and each of the plurality of terminal devices; anddetermining terminal devices corresponding to the RA preambles based on the plurality of correlation sequences.19.The method of claim 18, wherein determining the terminal devices corresponding to the RA preambles based on the plurality of correlation se
