[0086] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0087] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0088] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0089] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , or a 6G core (6GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as registration management, mobility management, connection management, access authentication / authorization, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0090] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0091] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0092] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0093] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0094] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0095] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to symbols.

[0096] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0097] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0098] In communication systems, the UE derives CSI from CSI reference signals (CSI-RSs) and reports it to the base station to characterize the wireless channel, enabling optimized transmission strategies for improved communication quality and efficiency. To reduce the resource overhead of CSI acquisition and reporting, CSI-RS overhead reduction (e.g., CSI prediction) and CSI compression have been proposed.

[0099] In view of the above, embodiments of the present disclosure provide schemes related to CSI reporting, in particular for CSI feedback and performance monitoring of CSI compression and CSI-RS spatial / frequency / time domain overhead reduction.

[0100] FIG. 2 illustrates an example of a signalling procedure 200 of CSI reporting in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the procedure 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1, and the procedure 200 may involve a UE 104 and a network entity 102 as shown in FIG. 1. The network entity may be implemented as a base station. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that procedure 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0101] As shown in FIG. 2, the base station 102 transmits (202) configuration information 203 to the UE 104. The configuration information 203 is indicative of at least one RS resource configuration and at least one CSI report configuration. The UE 104 receives (206) the configuration information 203 from the base station 102. The base station 102 transmits (208) CSI-RSs 210 to the UE 104 based on the at least one RS resource configuration. The UE 104 performs (212) CSI measurements based on the at least one RS resource configuration, and performs (214) CSI reporting 216 based on the at least one CSI report configuration. In some examples, the CSI reporting 216 may be based on the CSI measurements. Alternatively, the CSI reporting 216 may be based on CSI predictions in one or multiple time instances, in one or multiple frequency domain resources, or in one or multiple spatial domain resources such as antenna port. The base station 102 receives (218) the CSI reporting 216 from the UE 104.

[0102] In some embodiments, a report configuration among the at least one CSI report configuration may include an indication that a report metric of the report configuration may be based on CSI predictions in at least one of a time domain, a frequency domain, or a spatial domain (i.e., T / F / S domain (s) ) . In such event, a CSI report associated with the report configuration may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domain (s) . Alternatively, the report configuration may include an indication that a report metric of the report configuration may be based on CSI measurements. In such event, a CSI report associated with the report configuration may be based on CSI measurements without CSI prediction.

[0103] In some embodiments, the at least one CSI report configuration may include a first report configuration with a first report metric and a second report configuration with a second report metric. Alternatively, the at least one CSI report configuration may include one report configuration with a first report metric and a second report metric. In some implementations, the first report metric may be based on CSI measurements and CSI compression. Alternatively, the first report metric may be based on CSI measurements, CSI predictions and CSI compression. For example, the first report metric is for CSI inference, which may be based on CSI predictions or without CSI predictions. In some implementations, the second report metric may be based on CSI measurements. Alternatively, the second report metric may be based on CSI measurements and CSI predictions. For example, the second report metric may be target CSIs for gNB side performance monitoring, which may be based on CSI predictions or without CSI predictions. Alternatively, the second report metric may be based on a comparison between first CSIs and second CSIs. The first CSIs may be based on a model at the UE 104 for CSI decompression or based on precoded CSI-RSs received from the base station 102. For example, the first CSIs may be recovered CSIs based on UE proxy model or based on precoded CSI-RS. The second CSIs are based on CSI measurements or based on CSI measurements and CSI predictions. For example, the second CSIs may be target CSIs based on CSI predictions or without CSI predictions. The second report metric may be based on a comparison between the target CSIs and the recovered CSIs for UE side performance monitoring.

[0104] In some embodiments, a RS resource configuration among the at least one RS resource configuration may include one resource configuration. In some examples, a report configuration with a report metric based on CSI measurements may be associated with the RS resource configuration including one resource configuration.

[0105] In some embodiments, a RS resource configuration among the at least one RS resource configuration may include a first resource configuration and a second resource configuration. Resources associated with the first resource configuration may be a subset of resources associated with the second resource configuration in at least one of a time domain, a frequency domain, or a spatial domain. In some examples, a report configuration with a report metric based on CSI predictions may be associated with the RS resource configuration including the first and second resource configurations. For example, a RS resource configuration may include partial resources in T / F / S domain for CSI measurement and a full set of resources in the T / F / S domain for CSI predictions. The base station 102 may transmit CSI-RSs on the partial resources in T / F / S domain based on the first resource configuration; accordingly, the UE 104 may perform CSI measurements on the partial resources based on the first resource configuration and perform CSI prediction on the full set of resources based on the measured CSI on the partial resources based on the second resource configuration. To indicate the RS resource configuration, the configuration information 203 may include at least one of the first resource configuration or the second resource configuration.

[0106] In some implementations, the configuration information 203 may include the first resource configuration for the RS resource configuration, and the second resource configuration for the RS resource configuration may be determined based on the first resource configuration. In some examples, the second resource configuration may be determined based on an extension of the first resource configuration in at least one of the time domain, the frequency domain, or the spatial domain. The extension may be based on a configured or a predefined rule. In other words, the first resource configuration may be explicitly configured by the base station 102, and the second resource configuration may be determined by extending resources of the first resource configuration in time / frequency / spatial domains. For example, the partial resources for CSI measurements may include different time / frequency domain resources associated with different antenna port sets. The full set of resources for CSI predictions may be determined based on a combination of all the antenna ports among different time / frequency domain resources for each time / frequency domain resource.

[0107] In some alternative implementations, the configuration information 203 may include the second resource configuration for the RS resource configuration and an indication of a ratio or a set of antenna ports. The first resource configuration for the RS resource configuration may be determined based on the second resource configuration and the ratio or the set of antenna ports. In other words, the second resource configuration may be explicitly configured by the base station 102, and the first resource configuration may be determined by reducing resources of the second resource configuration in time / frequency / spatial domains by the indicated ratio or the set of antenna ports. The resource reduction for a specific ratio may be based on a configured or predefined rule.

[0108] In some embodiments, the at least one RS resource configuration may include a first RS resource configuration and a second RS resource configuration. The at least one CSI report configuration may include a first report configuration with a first report metric and a second report configuration with a second report metric. The first report configuration may be associated with the first RS resource configuration. The second report configuration is associated with the second RS resource configuration. For example, the UE may report CSI feedback for CSI inference. For performance monitoring, the UE may report target CSI for gNB side performance monitoring or the squared generalized cosine similarity (SGCS) of the target CSI and the recovered CSI for UE side performance monitoring. The report of CSI feedback (for inference) and the report of target CSI or SGCS of the target CSI and the recovered CSI (for performance monitoring) may be based on separate CSI report configurations, and the two separate CSI report configuration have separate RS resource configurations. For example, the CSI reporting for CSI inference may be based on the first RS resource configuration and the first report configuration, and the CSI reporting for performance monitoring may be based on the second RS resource configuration and the second report configuration. In some implementations, the first RS resource configuration may include two resource configurations, e.g., partial resources in T / F / S domain (for CSI measurement) and a full set of resources in the T / F / S domain (for CSI predictions) for CSI inference. The first report metric of the first report configuration may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domains or based on CSI measurements. Alternatively, the first RS resource configuration may include one resource configuration for CSI inference. The first report metric of the first report configuration may be based on CSI measurements. In some implementations, the second RS resource configuration may include two resource configurations, e.g., partial resources in T / F / S domain (for CSI measurement) and a full set of resources in the T / F / S domain (for CSI predictions) for performance monitoring. The second report metric of the second report configuration may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domains or based on CSI measurements. Alternatively, the second RS resource configuration may include one resource configuration for performance monitoring. The second report metric of the second report configuration may be based on CSI measurements.

[0109] In some alternative embodiments, the at least one RS resource configuration may include one RS resource configuration. The at least one CSI report configuration may include a first report configuration with a first report metric and a second report configuration with a second report metric. The first report configuration and the second report configuration is associated with the RS resource configuration. For example, the report of CSI feedback (for inference) and the report of target CSI or SGCS of the target CSI and the recovered CSI (for performance monitoring) may be based on separate CSI report configurations, and the two separate CSI report configuration have the same RS resource configuration. The CSI reporting for CSI inference may be based on the one RS resource configuration and the first report configuration, and the CSI reporting for performance monitoring may be based on the same RS resource configuration and the second report configuration. For example, the RS resource for performance monitoring may be based on the RS resource for inference. In some implementations, the one RS resource configuration may include two resource configurations, e.g., partial resources in T / F / S domain (for CSI measurement) and a full set of resources in the T / F / S domain (for CSI predictions) . The first report metric of the first report configuration may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domains or based on CSI measurements. The second report metric of the second report configuration may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domains or based on CSI measurements.

[0110] In some alternative embodiments, the at least one RS resource configuration may include one RS resource configuration. The at least one CSI report configuration may include one report configuration with a first report metric and a second report metric. The report configuration may be associated with the RS resource configuration. For example, the report of CSI feedback (for inference) and the report of target CSI or SGCS of the target CSI and the recovered CSI (for performance monitoring) may be based on the same CSI report configuration. The first report metric may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domains or based on CSI measurements. The second report metric may be based on CSI predictions in T / F / S domains or based on CSI measurements.

[0111] In some embodiments, the at least one RS resource configuration may include the first RS resource configuration and the second RS resource configuration. The CSI reporting 216 may include a first CSI reporting and a second CSI reporting. The first CSI reporting may be based on at least one first occasion associated with the first RS resource configuration. The second CSI reporting may be based on at least one second occasion associated with the second RS resource configuration. For example, the first occasions associated with the first RS resource configuration may be inference occasions, and the second occasions associated with the second RS resource configuration may be monitoring occasions.

[0112] In some implementations, the at least one second occasion may be determined based on a reference instance and an occasion number; or based on a reference instance and a time window length. The reference instance may be a reference resource corresponding to the second CSI reporting; or a reporting instance of the second CSI reporting. The occasion number or the time window length may be configured by the base station 102 or is predefined. For example, for a monitoring report configuration, if there is no time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction, multiple monitoring resource transmission occasions may be determined based on a time window or a predefined number N. In some examples, the second report metric may be based on a comparison between first CSIs at one or more first occasions among the at least one first occasion and second CSIs at the at least one second occasion. The one or more first occasions may be determined based on the at least one second occasion.

[0113] In some alternative implementations, the UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an indication of the at least one time instance. The at least one second occasion may be determined based on the at least one time instance. The indication of the at least one time instance may include an offset between a last time instance among the at least one time instance and a reference instance and respective gaps between adjacent time instances among the at least one time instance. The reference instance may be a reference resource corresponding to the second CSI reporting; or a reporting instance of the second CSI reporting. For example, for a monitoring report configuration, if there is time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction, a set of time instances may be explicitly indicated, and a monitoring resource transmission occasion which is closest to a time instance is determined for each time instance. Monitoring report corresponding to the determined multiple monitoring resource transmission will be reported.

[0114] In some alternative implementations, the UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an index of a report configuration with a first report metric and a first occasion index. The UE 104 may determine one or more first occasions among the at least one first occasion based on the index of the report configuration and the first occasion index. In some implementations, the one or more first occasions may be determined further based on a reference instance and an occasion number; or based on a reference instance and a time window length. The reference instance may be a reference resource corresponding to the second CSI reporting; or a reporting instance of the second CSI reporting. The occasion number or the time window length may be configured by the base station 102 or may be predefined. The at least one second occasion may be determined based on the second RS resource configuration and the one or more first occasions. For example, for a monitoring report configuration, if there is time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction, a set of inference time instances may be determined, and a monitoring resource transmission occasion which is closest to an inference time instance is determined for each determined inference time instance. Monitoring report corresponding to the determined multiple monitoring resource transmission will be reported. The inference time instance may be determined based on a CSI report configuration ID for inference and an inference time instance index f. Multiple f-th prediction time instances based on a time window or a predefined number N may be determined for the corresponding inference CSI report ID. Corresponding monitoring resource transmission occasion closest to the determined prediction time instances may be determined for CSI reporting for monitoring. SGCS based on comparison between the target CSI and the recovered CSI can also be reported for the corresponding paired occasions.

[0115] In some embodiments, the at least one RS resource configuration may include one RS resource configuration. The at least one CSI report configuration may include the first report configuration with the first report metric and the second report configuration with the second report metric. The CSI reporting 216 may include a first CSI reporting and a second CSI reporting. The first CSI reporting may be based on at least one first occasion associated with the RS resource configuration. The second CSI reporting may be based on at least one second occasion associated with the RS resource configuration. The second CSI reporting and the first CSI reporting may have different periodicities. For example, the periodicity of the first CSI reporting may be multiple times of the periodicity of the first CSI reporting. RS resources associated with the second CSI reporting and RS resources associated with the first CSI reporting have different periodicities. For example, RS resources associated with the first CSI reporting may be denser than RS resources associated with the second CSI reporting. For example, the reporting for inference and for performance monitoring may have different RS resource periodicities and reporting periodicities.

[0116] In some alternative implementations, the at least one second occasion may be determined based on a reference instance and an occasion number; or based on a reference instance and a time window length.

[0117] In some alternative implementations, the UE 104 may receive a first occasion index from the base station 102, and determine one or more first occasions among the at least one first occasion based on the first occasion index. The one or more first occasions may be determined further based on a reference instance and an occasion number; or based on a reference instance and a time window length. The reference instance may be a reference resource corresponding to the second CSI reporting; or a reporting instance of the second CSI reporting. The occasion number or the time window length may be configured by the base station 102 or may be predefined. The at least one second occasion is the determined one or more first occasions. For example, for a monitoring report configuration, if there is time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction, a set of inference time instances may be determined, and the inference time instances may be determined as the monitoring resource transmission occasions.

[0118] In some embodiments, the at least one RS resource configuration may include one RS resource configuration. The at least one CSI report configuration may include one report configuration with the first report metric and the second report metric.

[0119] In some alternative implementations, the at least one second occasion may be determined based on a reference instance and an occasion number; or based on a reference instance and a time window length.

[0120] In some alternative implementations, the UE 104 may receive a first occasion index from the base station 102, and determine one or more first occasions among the at least one first occasion based on the first occasion index.

[0121] In some embodiments, the at least one CSI report configuration may include the one report configuration with the first report metric and the second report metric. The UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an activation indication for a report metric among the first report metric and the second report metric; and perform CSI reporting for the report metric within an activation duration of the report metric. A start of the activation duration of the report metric may be after the activation indication by a first offset. The activation indication may be carried in a MAC CE. In some examples, the UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, a deactivation indication for the report metric. An end of the activation duration of the report metric may be after the deactivation indication by a second offset. The deactivation indication may be carried in a MAC CE. In some examples, the first offset may be based on an occasion number for the report metric. For example, the reporting type selection (e.g., for inference or for performance monitoring) may be based on additional signaling in MAC CE. A duration for a certain reporting type may be determined based on the activation / deactivation signaling. There may be a first time domain offset between the activation signaling and the start of the duration, and a second offset between the deactivation signaling and the ending of the duration. At least the first offset may be based on the number of N or number of monitoring time instances for reporting. During the first offset, there should be at least N monitoring RS transmission occasions.

[0122] In some alternative implementations, the at least one CSI report configuration may include the one report configuration with the first report metric and the second report metric. The UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an activation indication for a report metric among the first report metric and the second report metric; and perform CSI reporting for the report metric at a reporting instance, wherein the reporting instance is after the activation indication by a first offset. In some examples, the first offset may be based on an occasion number for the report metric. The activation indication may be carried in a DCI. For example, the reporting type selection (e.g., for inference or for performance monitoring) may be based on additional signaling in DCI. The reporting may be aperiodic, and there may be a time domain offset between DCI reception and the PUSCH transmission. The offset may be based on the number of N or number of monitoring time instances for reporting. During the first offset, there should be at least N monitoring RS transmission occasions.

[0123] The CSI reporting can also be periodic. Then after RRC configuration, report corresponding to the first metric and the second metric may be performed periodically. This can also be considered as a default operation.

[0124] Hereinbefore, some embodiments of CSI reporting are described in general terms. Hereinafter, some implementations of the CSI reporting may be further detailed with reference to FIGS. 3 through 7B.

[0125] FIG. 3 illustrates example implementations of CSI reporting procedures in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3, for CSI inference with CSI prediction, the UE performs CSI prediction based on measured CSIs in partial S / F / T domain resources and obtains predicted CSIs in full S / F / T domain resources. The UE performs CSI compression on the predicted CSIs in full S / F / T domain resources, and transmit the compressed CSI to the gNB. The gNB recovers the CSI by decompressing the compressed CSI. That is, the CSI feedback is based on CSI compression and CSI prediction at UE side. The input to the CSI compression model is the predicted CSI at time / frequency / spatial domain in case of inference or in case of monitoring of CSI compression. The CSI feedback may be based on separate source and channel coding, joint source and channel coding or joint source / channel coding and modulation. The recovered CSI is a precoding matrix. The CSI prediction and CSI compression at UE may be implemented by two parts of a model or by two individual models. As used hereinafter, the terms “model part” or “model” may be used interchangeably to refer to either an individual model or a part of a model for simplicity.

[0126] For CSI inference with CSI prediction, the UE obtains measured CSIs in full S / F / T domain resources. The UE performs CSI compression on the measured CSIs in full S / F / T domain resources, and transmit the compressed CSI to the gNB. The gNB recovers the CSI by decompressing the compressed CSI. That is, the CSI feedback is based on CSI compression at UE side. The measured CSI in full spatial / frequency / time domain is reported to gNB in case of joint monitoring of CSI compression and CSI prediction. The CSI feedback may be based on separate source and channel coding, joint source and channel coding or joint source / channel coding and modulation. The recovered CSI is a precoding matrix.

[0127] For NW side performance monitoring, UE may transmit the target CSI to gNB, so that gNB may compare the received target CSI with the recovered CSI. The recovered CSI is based on the CSI feedback transmitted from UE to gNB and the decompression model at gNB side. The CSI feedback is based on CSI compression (and optionally CSI prediction) at UE side. The recovered CSI is a precoding matrix. The target CSI is also a precoding matrix. The compared target CSI and the recovered CSI may correspond to same or close time instance so that they are comparable. The comparison may be based on calculation of SGCS of precoding matrix for target CSI and recovered CSI for each layer. The SGCS may be further averaged among multiple subbands. In other words, for NW side performance monitoring, both CSI for inference and CSI for performance monitoring may be reported to gNB, so that the corresponding reporting near each other may be compared.

[0128] For UE side performance monitoring, UE may determine the target CSI for performance monitoring and the recovered CSI, compare them and report the SGCS value for the two CSIs. The recovered CSI is based on the compression model and proxy decompression model at UE side or based on precoded CSI-RS reception at UE side.

[0129] For the NW side performance monitoring for combination of CSI compression and CSI-RS overhead reduction, there are several alternatives to link the reported target CSI and the reported CSI feedback.

[0130] In a first embodiment, there may be two report configurations and two resource configurations. The report of CSI feedback (for inference) and the report of target CSI (for performance monitoring) may be based on separate CSI report configurations, and the two separate CSI report configuration have separate resource configurations. The report metric for inference may be based on predicted CSI in at least one of time / frequency / spatial domain or based on the measured CSI based on CSI-RS transmission in time / frequency / spatial domain.

[0131] If the report metric for inference is measured CSI, CSI-RS may be transmitted in at least one of all predicted time instances, predicted frequency domain resources, or all predicted antenna ports.

[0132] If the report metric for inference is based on predicted CSI, the resource indication may contain two parts, e.g., a partial part for measurement and a full part for prediction.

[0133] In some examples, the first part of the resource indication is a partial part, which is for measurement. There is a second part based on extension of the first part. The second part is for prediction. The extension may be based on some pre-defined rules. For example, the configured resources are the partial part for measurement, and the time domain / frequency resources other than the configured resources are for prediction. In another example, different time / frequency resource may be associated with different antenna port sets, and combination of all the antenna ports among different time / frequency resources are the full set of antenna ports to be predicted for each time / frequency resources. FIG. 4 illustrates example implementations of CSI-RS overhead reduction in spatial domain in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In the upper portion in FIG. 4, four different antenna port sets are configured for slot #0, slot #5, slot 10 and slot #15, with a periodicity of 20 slots. Based on the configured four different antenna port sets, the UE may determine a full set of antenna ports. Similarly, in the lower portion in FIG. 4, two different antenna port sets are configured for slot #0 and slot #5, with a periodicity of 10 slots. Based on the configured two different antenna port sets, the UE may determine a full set of antenna ports. The configured antenna port set for each slot may be used for measurements, while unconfigured antenna port sets may be used for predicted for each slot. The examples in FIG. 4 are based on extension in spatial domain. It may be understood that the frequency domain spatial domain and the combination of time / frequency / spatial domains are also possible)

[0134] In some alternative examples, the first part of the resource indication is a full part for prediction. The first part may be further reduced to determine a second part (i.e., a partial part) for measurement. A ratio may be configured, e.g., 1 / 2, 1 / 4, etc. Alternatively, a port subset configuration may be configured, e.g. Antenna port #0 to #7.

[0135] In a more specific example, the first part may be configured in all PRBs, antenna ports of 0~15, and time domain resources with a periodicity of 5 slots. If the ratio for each of time / frequency / spatial domain is 1 / 4, then the CSI-RS may be transmitted from frame#0 or the first aperiodic CSI-RS transmission occasion with the following pattern:

[0136] Slot#0: CSI-RS transmitted in first part of the configured frequency domain resources, transmitted CSI-RS ports are 0 / 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 14

[0137] Slot#5: No CSI-RS transmission

[0138] Slot#10: CSI-RS transmitted in second part of the configured frequency domain resources, transmitted CSI-RS ports are 1 / 3 / 5 / 7 / 9 / 11 / 13 / 15.

[0139] Slot#15: No CSI-RS transmission

[0140] Slot#20: Same as slot#0

[0141] Slot#25: Same as slot#5

[0142]

[0143] From signaling perspective, there may be a CSI-RS resource configuration in the CSI report configuration for inference, and there may a second signaling indicating whether the CSI is determined based on measurement of the configured CSI-RS or based on further prediction in T / F / S domain, or indicating whether only partial CSI-RS is actually transmitted and the other CSI-RS in T / F / S domain need to be predicted

[0144] The CSI report configuration for performance monitoring may have a CSI-RS resource configuration. The resource type for performance monitoring may be similar with that of the CSI report configuration for inference. That is, the target CSI may be based on measured CSI, or based on prediction in T / F / S domain. Similar with that of the CSI-RS resource configuration for inference, for performance monitoring, the resource for prediction may be based on extension of the resource for measurement, or the resource for measurement may be based on reduction of the resource for prediction. The CSI reporting for performance monitoring is based on the measured CSI or predicted CSI based on CSI-RS without compression; while for inference, there is a further step of CSI compression.

[0145] The type regarding whether the CSI reporting is based on the measured CSI or predicted CSI may be separately configured for inference and for performance monitoring.

[0146] The CSI for inference and the CSI for performance monitoring may be linked for comparison.

[0147] In some examples, for periodic and semi-persistent CSI-RS resources, there may be no time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction (i.e., without time domain prediction) . FIG. 5A illustrates an example implementation of CSI reporting for CSI feedback and performance monitoring in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5A, for a monitoring report, there may be a reference resource corresponding to the monitoring report. For example, a monitoring report is at time instance n, and the reference resource is at time instance n-5. Then, the UE may determine N transmission occasions of monitoring resource from the reference resource in a decreasing order. The UE may report measurements corresponding to the N transmission occasions in the monitoring report. The value N may be configured by gNB. Alternatively, the N may be determined based on a window. Ending of the window may be determined based on the reference resource or the reporting instance. Length of the window may be configured. Selection of inference report and comparison may be performed at gNB side.

[0148] In some alternative examples, if there is time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction, for a monitoring report configuration, the UE may determine a set of time instances firstly, and then determine a set of monitoring resource transmission occasions. Each monitoring resource transmission occasion which is closest one to a time instance may be determined for each time instance. The UE may report a monitoring report corresponding to the determined multiple monitoring resource transmissions.

[0149] In a first example, to determine the set of time instances, there may be a explicit configuration of a time domain offset with respect to the monitoring report occasion or the reference resource to determine time instance of the last time instance, and a duration between adjacent time instances to determine other time instances.

[0150] In a second example, a CSI report configuration ID corresponding to inference may be reported from gNB to UE, and a prediction time instance index f may be configured from gNB to UE. FIG. 5B illustrates an example implementation of CSI reporting for CSI feedback and performance monitoring in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0151] As shown in FIG. 5B, the UE may determine multiple f-th prediction time instances based on the measurement / prediction instance / window for the corresponding inference CSI configuration ID. The reference resource for the monitoring CSI report may be determined, and N f-th prediction time instances which are the latest ones before the reference resource may be determined. Then, the UE may determine N monitoring resource transmission occasion for the N f-th prediction time instances, where each monitoring resource transmission occasion is the closest one to each of the f-th prediction time instance. The N may be configured or determined by a window. Ending of the window may be based on the reference resource or the reporting instance. Length of window may be configured. The UE may determine measurement result for the N monitoring resource and perform CSI reporting for performance monitoring.

[0152] In a second embodiment, there may be two report configurations and one resource configuration. The report of CSI feedback (for inference) and the report of target CSI (for performance monitoring) may be based on separate CSI report configurations, and the resource for performance monitoring may be based on the resource for inference.

[0153] The possible resource types for inference and monitoring are same as that in the first embodiment, i.e., based on the measured CSI or predicted CSI.

[0154] Regarding whether the CSI reporting is based on the measured CSI or predicted CSI, the report for performance monitoring and the report for inference may have separate configurations. In some examples, both the report for performance monitoring and the report for inference may be based on the measured CSIs. The gNB may perform CSI-RS transmission on the full resources. Alternatively, both the report for performance monitoring and the report for inference may be based on the predicted CSIs. The gNB may perform CSI-RS transmission on only the partial resources. Alternatively, the gNB may perform CSI-RS transmission on the full resources. The full resources may be used for measurement of monitoring. Only partial resource is measured and others are predicted for inference. That is, the report for performance monitoring is based on measured CSIs, and the report for inference may be based on the predicted CSIs.

[0155] In some examples, for periodic and semi-persistent CSI-RS resources, there may be no time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction (i.e., without time domain prediction) . FIG. 6A illustrates an example implementation of CSI reporting for CSI feedback and performance monitoring in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 6A, for a monitoring report without time domain prediction, a reference resource may be determined based on the time instance for the monitoring report, then N inference resource transmission occasions may be determined, wherein the determine inference resource transmission occasions are the N latest ones and before the reference resource for the monitoring report.

[0156] The resource transmission for the N time instances for performance monitoring is based on the measurement resource configuration for performance monitoring. Actually, inference may also performed at the N time instance. In this case, only the resource based on inference configuration is measured and predication may be performed when necessary. In this case, inference is based on predicted CSI, and monitoring is based on measured CSI. In other words, the measurement resource for inference is a subset of measurement resource for performance monitoring. The value N may be configured by gNB. Alternatively, the N may be determined based on a window. Ending of the window may be determined based on the reference resource or the reporting instance. Length of the window may be configured. Only monitoring RS on the determined time instances within the window is to be measured and reported.

[0157] In some alternative examples, if there is time domain CSI-RS overhead reduction, for a monitoring report with time domain prediction, a set of N f-th time instances may be determined based on the reference resource of the monitoring report, e.g., similar to the case of the first embodiment. Resource transmission for the N f-th time instances is based on the configuration for monitoring reporting. Measurement results for the N f-th time instances may be reported from UE to gNB. Value N and index f may be configured by gNB. FIG. 6B illustrates an example implementation of CSI reporting for CSI feedback and performance monitoring in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Similar to the examples without time domain prediction of the second embodiment, the resources used for inference may be a subset of resources used for inference.

[0158] In a third embodiment, there may be one report configuration and one resource configuration. The report of CSI feedback and the report of target CSI may be based on the same CSI report configuration. FIG. 7A illustrates an example implementation of a CSI report configuration in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 7A, the CSI report configuration may include two types of resource configuration, e.g., Resource #1 and Resource #2. For example, Resource #1 may be for partial resource transmission, which may be for inference or monitor; and Resource #2 may be for full resource transmission, which may be for inference or monitoring. The CSI report configuration may include two types of report configuration, e.g., report metric #1 and report metric #2. For example, report metric #1 may be for inference reporting; report metric #2 may be for monitoring reporting.

[0159] Regarding which type of resource or which type of report configuration to be used, there may be a default configuration. For example, based on the default configuration, the first type of resource configuration and the first type of report configuration are used, i.e., using the Resource #1 and report metric #1 for inference reporting. Alternatively, there may be a signaling indicating the resource type and the reporting type. The indicated reporting type may be the report metric #1 (for inference reporting) , the report metric #2 (for monitoring reporting) or both. The resource type for each reporting type may be configured. The actual resource type may be based on the reporting type which occupies more resource transmission. Resource for other reporting type may be a subset of the resource type having more resource occupation. The RS transmission for a time instance may be based on maximum resource element (RE) occupation of the first and the second RS configuration if the RS transmission of the first and the second RS configuration are in same slot or same symbol.

[0160] The reporting for inference and for performance monitoring may have different resource periodicities and reporting periodicities. For example, the reporting for inference may have a shorter resource periodicity and a shorter reporting periodicity than that for performance monitoring.

[0161] In some implementations, the reporting type selection may be based on an additional signaling e.g., in MAC CE or DCI. FIG. 7B illustrates an example implementation of CSI reporting for CSI feedback and performance monitoring in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 7B, a trigger signaling of Resource #1 and report metric #1 may trigger the reporting for inference. A trigger signaling of Resource #1 and #2 and report metric #1 and #2 may trigger the reporting for performance monitoring at gNB side.

[0162] In some examples, the reporting type selection may be based on an additional signaling in MAC CE. There may be activation signaling and deactivation signaling. A duration for a reporting type may be determined based on the activation / deactivation signaling. There may be a first time domain offset between the activation signaling and the start of the duration, and a second offset between the deactivation signaling and the ending of the duration. At least the first offset may be based on the number of N or number of N f-th time instances for reporting. During the first offset, there should be at least N monitoring RS transmission occasions.

[0163] In some alternative examples, the reporting type selection may be based on an additional signaling in DCI. The reporting may be aperiodic. There may be a time domain offset between DCI reception and the PUSCH transmission for reporting. The time offset may be based on the number of N or the number of N f-th time instances for reporting so that there are N time instances for determining the monitoring result. During the time offset, there should be at least N monitoring RS transmission occasions.

[0164] Different metrics or different combinations of metrics and resources may also be associated with different trigger states of aperiodic reporting. The relationship may be pre-configured by RRC signaling.

[0165] Embodiments of the NW side performance monitoring, except for the reporting content for performance monitoring, are also applicable for UE side performance monitoring and details of the description thereof will be omitted. Different from the UE side performance monitoring with the reporting of target CSI, for UE side performance monitoring, the reporting content may be SGCS determined based on a comparison between the target CSI and recovered CSI. The recovered may be determined by the measured CSI and the recovered CSI by a proxy model at UE side or by precoded CSI-RS transmitted by gNB.

[0166] In some embodiments, when there is time domain prediction, to compare the target CSI and recovered CSI, the UE may determine N latest monitoring RS transmission occasions which are no later than CSI reference resources of the monitoring report. For each monitoring RS transmission occasion, the UE may find an associated f-th inference report. The f-th inference report is based on reference resource for the inference report and the reference resource is the closest one to the monitoring RS transmission. The f-th inference report may be based on the inference RS transmission / prediction instance of the inference report and the RS transmission / prediction instance may be the closest one to the monitoring RS transmission occasion. If the closest one’s time domain offset is larger than a threshold, then there is no comparison. The UE may calculate the SGCS of the target CSI and the recovered CSI, and report the SGCS to the gNB.

[0167] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, schemes for the combination of CSI compression and CSI-RS overhead reduction in spatial / frequency / time domain are designed. The association between target CSI and CSI feedback may be determined based on the principle of BM / CSI prediction.
