Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to a UE, a network entity, a processor for wireless communication, and methods for lower layer triggered mobility enhancement. In example method, the UE receives channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) report configuration (s) for candidate cell (s), the CSI-RS report configuration (s) being associated with CSI-RS resources or CSI-RS resource sets from the candidate cells. The UE receives a cell switch command (CSC) indicating a target cell, wherein the CSC triggers an aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set for early CSI acquisition for the target cell and at least one tracking reference signal (TRS) that is associated with the aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set. The UE transmits a CSI report for early CSI acquisition in a first uplink transmission in the target cell based on the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set.

[0045] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0046] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) . As used herein, the term “TRP” refers to a transmission-reception point having an antenna array (with one or more antenna elements) at the network side located at a specific geographical location, which may be used for transmitting and receiving signals to / from the terminal device. In embodiment of the present disclosure, a TRP may refer to Macro Cell, micro cell, an RRH, a relay, a femto node, a pico node, etc.

[0047] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0048] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0049] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signalling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signalling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0050] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0051] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0052] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as registration management, mobility management, connection management, access authentication and authorization etc. for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0053] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0054] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0055] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0056] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0057] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0058] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0059] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0060] L1 / L2 triggered mobility (LTM) was specified in 5G NR to reduce the handover latency where the cell switch decision is made based on L1 measurement or L3 measurement. LTM will be an important feature towards the cell-free MIMO in 6G, which targets a UE-centric communication system. L1 measurement based on synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) and / or channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) from candidate cells is the foundation for the target cell selection. In addition, early CSI acquisition based on CSI-RS is also beneficial for the higher throughput data transmission after switching to the target cell. Both features are supported in 5G NR, while 5G NR LTM specifications only define basic functionality and do not address aspects such as reducing power consumption at the UE and network sides or other potential enhancements. In this disclosure, schemes on related issues for LTM in 6G are provided.

[0061] One of the issues is how to support aperiodic CSI-RS based early CSI acquisition for the target cell in LTM. Currently, only periodic and semi-persistent CSI-RS based early CSI on candidate cells are supported for early CSI acquisition, but the UE only need to report the CSI on the target cell after receiving a cell switch command (CSC) . Thus, a more effective way is to support the early CSI acquisition on candidate cell based on aperiodic CSI-RS. This may require more efficient coordination between source cell and target cell even in the inter-CU scenario. The corresponding scheme is provided as follows.

[0062] FIG. 2 illustrates a process flow for early CSI acquisition based on aperiodic CSI-RS for LTM in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process flow 200 may involve a UE 201 and a network entity (NW) (e.g. a base station, such as gNB) 202. The process flow 200 may be applied to the wireless communications system 100 with reference to FIG. 1, for example, the UE 201 may be any of UEs 104, and the network entity 202 may be or comprise any of the network entities 102. It would be appreciated that the process flow 200 may be applied to other communication scenarios.

[0063] At 210, the network entity 202 transmits, to the UE 201, at least one CSI-RS report configuration 215 for one or more candidate cells. Correspondingly, at 220, the UE 201 receives the at least one CSI-RS report configuration 215 for one or more candidate cells from the network entity 202. The at least one CSI-RS report configuration 215 is associated with one or more CSI-RS resources or CSI-RS resource sets from the one or more candidate cells.

[0064] At 230, the network entity 202 transmits, to the UE 201, a CSC 235 indicating a target cell from the one or more candidate cells. Correspondingly, at 240, the UE 201 receives the CSC 235 from the network entity 202. The CSC 235 may trigger an aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set comprising one or more CSI-RS resources for early CSI acquisition for the target cell. A TRS may be associated with a CSI-RS resource for the UE to obtaining the Doppler shift, Doppler spread, average delay, delay spread and spatial relation parameters for the CSI-RS reception.

[0065] One or more CSI report configurations can be configured for a candidate cell and each CSI report configuration is associated with one or more aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement. The aperiodic CSI-RS is triggered on the target cell indicated by the CSC. For example, if only one aperiodic CSI-RS resource set and / or one CSI report configuration is configured for a candidate cell for early CSI acquisition, it can be directly triggered by the CSC. If more than one CSI report configurations and more than one aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets are configured for early CSI acquisition. One of them can be indicated and triggered by a field in the CSC.

[0066] At 250, the UE 201 transmits, to the network entity 202, a CSI report 255 for early CSI acquisition in a first uplink (UL) transmission in the target cell based on the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set. Correspondingly, at 260, the network entity 202 receives the CSI report 255 from the UE 201. For random access channel (RACH) -less LTM, the first UL transmission corresponds to the first configured grant (CG) or dynamic grant (DG) PUSCH after the CSC. For RACH-based LTM with contention-free random access (CFRA) , the first UL transmission corresponds to PUSCH scheduled by random access response (RAR) or Msg. A. For RACH-based LTM with contention-based random access (CBRA) , the first UL transmission corresponds to the first CG or DG PUSCH after hybrid automatic repeat request acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) transmission for Msg. 4 or Msg. B

[0067] Each of the CSI-RS resource or the CSI-RS resource set can be configured with a slot offset for the UE to determine the slot for the CSI-RS resources reception. The triggered CSI-RS resources are transmitted in slot n+k+k′+koffset, wherein the UE send HARQ-ACK information for the physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) carrying the CSC MAC CE in slot n in case that the CSC is carried by MAC CE, or the NW send the CSC in slot n in case that the CSC is carried by a downlink control information (DCI) . k is a number of symbols or slots to apply the CSC, and slot n+k corresponds to the timing at which the CSC has been applied. k′is for deciphering and / or integrity protection check and can be set to 0 for the MAC CE when cyphering and / or integrity protection is applied to the MAC CE. koffset is the slot offset configured for the CSI-RS resources or CSI-RS resource set. In case that k is a number of symbols or a number of milliseconds, the triggered CSI-RS resources are transmitted in the first slot that is at least k symbols after slot n+koffset. If the triggered CSI-RS resources for early CSI acquisition cannot be transmitted in a single slot, they can be transmitted in more than one slots, e.g., two or more adjacent slots. For example, the triggered CSI-RS resources may be transmitted in slot n+k+k′+koffset and slot n+k+k′+koffset+1.

[0068] Further, the CSC 235 triggers a tracking reference signal (TRS) that is associated with the aperiodic CSI-RS resource or multiple TRS where each of them is associated with a CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource set. TRS may be needed for the UE 201 to obtain the Doppler shift, Doppler spread, average delay, delay spread and the spatial relation parameter for the CSI calculation based on the CSI-RS reception. Thus, one or more TRS should be transmitted before or along with the CSI-RS transmission. For example, the CSC can trigger a TRS transmission with one or more bursts.

[0069] In some embodiments, the triggered TRS may be transmitted starting from a slot that is offset by a first number (m1) of slots relative to a reference slot corresponding to the timing at which the CSC is applied, the first number (m1) being a configured slot offset for TRS transmission. The triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set is transmitted after the TRS transmission. For the timing on the triggered CSI-RS resources including the TRS, the following options can be considered, which will be described with reference to FIGS. 3A to 3C.

[0070] In some embodiments, the triggered TRS is transmitted in multiple TRS bursts, and the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set is transmitted in the same slot as a last burst of the TRS transmission.

[0071] As illustrated in FIG. 3A, the triggered CSI-RS resource (s) are transmitted in the same slot for TRS transmission. The time and frequency resources for the TRS transmission in a slot is configured by higher layer signaling. To ensure the channel tracking performance, each of the TRS burst or a TRS transmission occasion may need to be transmitted in two adjacent slots as illustrated in FIG. 3A. The parameter m1 is the slot offset configured for the TRS transmission and the parameter m2 is the slot offset between the end of the slot carrying the first TRS burst and the first slot carrying the second TRS burst. If two TRS bursts are triggered, the CSI-RS resource (s) are transmitted in the same slot for the second (last) TRS bust transmission.

[0072] In some embodiments, the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set is transmitted starting from the first available slot after the TRS transmission.

[0073] As illustrated in FIG. 3B, the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource (s) are transmitted in the first available slot (s) after the TRS transmission, where only one TRS burst is triggered, and the CSI-RS resources are transmitted in two continuous slots after the TRS transmission. The available slots are two adjacent slots satisfying there are DL or flexible symbol (s) for the time-domain location (s) for all the CSI-RS resource transmission.

[0074] In some embodiments, the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set is transmitted starting from a slot that is offset by a second number (m3) of slots relative to a reference slot corresponding to the timing at which the CSC is applied, the second number (m3) being a configured slot offset for the aperiodic CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set.

[0075] As illustrated in FIG. 3C, the triggered aperiodic CSI-RS resources are transmitted in slot n+k+m3 and slot n+k+m3+1, and the triggered TRS are transmitted in slot n+k+m1 and slot n+k+m1+1. In this case,  is used for applying the CSC. The CSC is transmitted in slot n and the HARQ-ACK for PDSCH carrying the CSC is transmitted in slot n+m

[0076] Another issue related to LTM is rate match around the CSI-RS from candidate cells. Basically, the periodic and activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources and SSB resources from the serving cell need to be rate matched when perform PDSCH resource mapping, the reason is that the UE only need to perform the L1 measurement and the CSI acquisition on the serving cells and the NW should ensure the measurement accuracy by avoiding transmit other signals / channels on top the resources for periodic or semi-persistent (P / SP) CSI-RS and SSB transmission in a same serving cell. In 5G LTM, the SSB from candidate cells and periodic CSI-RS as well as semi-persistent CSI-RS from candidate cells can be used for L1 measurements. Further, to support the immediate high throughput DL and UL transmission after switching to the target cell, CSI-RS based early CSI acquisition was specified as well. To ensure that the UE can report accuracy L1-reference signal receive power (L1-RSRP) and CSI for different candidate cells, it is beneficial to avoid overlapping between the resources from candidate cell and other signals. Therefore, it is proposed to perform rate matching around the CSI-RS resources and / or SSB resources from candidate cells which are configured for L1 measurement or early CSI acquisition for the PDSCH resource mapping in serving cell. Alternatively, the UE performs rate matching on the resources used for periodic and activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources, as well as SSB resources from the serving cell, when SSB or CSI-RS resources from candidate cells are configured for L1 measurement or early CSI acquisition for the PDSCH resource mapping in the serving cell. In other words, the resources for periodic CSI-RS resources, activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources and / or SSB resources from candidate cells are available for the PDSCH resource mapping in the serving cell.

[0077] In some embodiments, a UE can be configured a list of CSI-RS resources from candidate cells for L1 measurement (e.g., report quantity includes L1-RSRP or L1-SINR) and / or for CSI acquisition (e.g., report quantity includes CRI, RI, PMI and CQI, ect. ) . The CSI-RS resource can be periodic or semi-persistent. The UE may need to perform rate match around those resources for PDSCH resource mapping. Rate match means the time-frequency resources used for those signals are not available for the resource mapping for PDSCH.

[0078] A UE can be configured with a list of CSI-RS resources from candidate cells for L1 measurement (e.g., the report quantity may include L1-RSRP or L1 signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (L1-SINR) ) and / or for CSI acquisition (e.g., the report quantity may include CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , rank indicator (RI) , precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) , and channel quality indicator (CQI) , etc. ) . The CSI-RS resources can be periodic or semi-persistent. The UE may need to perform rate matching around these resources for PDSCH resource mapping. Here, rate matching means that the time-frequency resources occupied by the CSI-RS signals are unavailable for PDSCH resource mapping.

[0079] In some embodiments, when configured with periodic CSI-RS resources and activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources from candidate cells, the UE may perform rate matching around the periodic CSI-RS resources and the activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources from the one or more candidate cells for PDSCH resource mapping in a serving cell. The periodic CSI-RS resources and the activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources from the one or more candidate cells may comprise CSI-RS resources for L1 measurement and / or CSI-RS resources for CSI acquisition.

[0080] In some embodiments, the UE may perform rate matching around the periodic CSI-RS and / or the activated semi-persistent CSI-RS from candidate cells for both L1 measurement and CSI acquisition.

[0081] Alternatively, the UE may perform rate matching around the periodic CSI-RS and / or the activated semi-persistent CSI-RS for L1 measurement, and for the CSI-RS for CSI acquisition, the UE may apply different schemes according to different UE capabilities as follows. If the UE does not have the capability on CSI measurement before receiving the CSC, rate matching is not required because the UE does not need to measure the CSI-RS at this stage. If the UE has the capability on CSI measurement before receiving the CSC, rate matching may be performed on the periodic CSI-RS when it is configured and on the semi-persistent CSI-RS when it is activated.

[0082] Further, SSB-based L1 measurement can also be supported for LTM. To ensure the measurement accuracy, the UE may also need to perform rate matching around the SSB resources from candidate cells. This may impact the system throughput because the total available resources for PDSCH transmission is reduced. Given that, the UE may perform a flexible rate match scheme, i.e., the rate matching around SSB resources from candidate cells may be enabled or disabled per candidate cell. In some embodiments, the UE may only need to perform rate matching around the SSB resources that are configured for L1 measurement other than all the SSB resources.

[0083] For LTM enhancements, UE behaviors for stopping measurement on the CSI-RS from candidate cells will be described in the following.

[0084] To save the UE side and NW side power consumption, after receiving the CSC, there is no need to continue the L1 measurement on the CSI-RS resources from the target cell as well as the candidate cells. Correspondingly, several schemes are provided to specify the UE behavior on when and how to stop the L1 measurement for candidate cells.

[0085] Before receiving the CSC, a UE can be configured one or more periodic or semi-persistent CSI-RS resources from candidate cells for L1 measurement and early CSI acquisition for LTM. For L1 measurement, the UE shall measure the periodic CSI-RS resources or the activated semi-persistent CSI-RS resources according to the CSI report configuration for LTM. For those type of the CSI-RS resources, i.e., CSI-RS resources used for beam management, i.e., for L1 measurement, after receiving the CSC, the UE may stop L1 measurement on the periodic and semi-persistent CSI-RS resources from both target cell and other candidate cells because the target cell has been determined based on the L1 measurement reporting. If LTM CSI report is also configured in the new serving cell, i.e., the target cell, the UE may restart the measurement accordingly new serving cell’s configuration. CSI-RS resources used for beam management may be identified by a CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set configured with a higher layer parameter repetition, which is indicated the CSI-RS resources within the set is transmitted in a repetition manner by using a same spatial transmit (Tx) filter parameters.

[0086] Different from the CSI-RS for L1 measurement, the UE can perform CSI measurement on the CSI-RS for early CSI acquisition before or after receiving the CSC subject to UE capability, and the UE only needs to report the early CSI for the target cell in the first UL transmission to the target cell. Thus, the UE can treat CSI-RS resource from different candidate cells in different way.

[0087] Specifically, for the CSI-RS resources from target cell for early CSI acquisition, the UE may stop CSI measurement on the CSI-RS resources from the target cell for early CSI acquisition after sending the CSI report in the first UL transmission. For the CSI-RS resources from candidate cells other than the target cell for early CSI acquisition, the UE stops the CSI measurement on those CSI-RS resources after receiving the CSC.

[0088] In the following, issues related to candidate cell activation / deactivation for L1 measurement are discussed.

[0089] Candidate cell selection is beneficial for the signaling overhead reduction for the case that the NW wants to stop the measurement on some candidate cells which are involved in some configurations for L1 measurement. For example, based on the L3 measurement and reporting, the NW can identify that the qualities of some candidate cells are too weak to select as the candidate cell. Then, the NW may send a signaling to disable the L1 measurement on those candidate cells without radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration.

[0090] Correspondingly, the UE receives from the NW the signaling to enable or disable the measurement on at least one candidate cell from the cells, and only measures CSI-RS, CSI interference measurement resources (CSI-IM) , and / or SSB from the enabled candidate cell (s) for LTM CSI reporting. In this way, the reconfiguration latency is reduced, and the UE power consumption can be reduced as well.

[0091] In some embodiments, the NW may send a MAC CE to enable or disable the L1 measurement for the candidate cells for LTM by using a MAC CE with a format as illustrated in FIG. 4. As illustrated, each bit in the bitmap corresponds to an LTM candidate cell. For example, Ci can be set 0 to indicate that LTM candidate cell i is disabled for L1 measurement, and Ci can be set 1 to indicate that LTM candidate cell i is enabled for L1 measurement. When a candidate cell is disabled, the UE does not measure the SSB or CSI-RS resources from this candidate cells for L1 measurement and / or early CSI acquisition. For an LTM CSI reporting, the UE only need to measure the CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB from the enabled candidate cells. For the candidate cells that are enabled again by the MAC CE, the UE maintains the measurement on those candidate cells.

[0092] In the corresponding CSI report, CSI resource indicator (CRI) k (k ≥ 0) corresponds to the configured (k+1) -th entry of associated non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS resource list associated with activated candidate cells in the corresponding NZP CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, and (k+1) -th entry of associated CSI-IM resource in the corresponding CSI-IM resource set (if configured) associated with activated candidate cells. SSB resource indicator (SSBRI) k (k ≥ 0) corresponds to the configured (k+1) -th entry of the associated SSB resource list in the corresponding resource set associated with enabled candidate cells. As example is provided in FIG. 5, which illustrates the mapping between SSB resources of candidate cells and SSBRIs in a CSI report.

[0093] Alternatively, the CRI or SSBRI k may correspond to the configured (k+1) -th entry of the associated SSB resource list in the corresponding resource set associated with candidate cells, no matter the candidate cell is activated or deactivated, while the CRI or SSBRI value corresponding to the deactivated candidate cells are not reported.

[0094] The next issue for LTM enhancement relates to utilization of activated candidate transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states, which is discussed as follows.

[0095] Both NW initiated LTM and UE initiated LTM, which is also called as conditional LTM (CLTM) , are specified in 5G NR. For the former scheme, the NW sends a cell switching command to inform the UE to perform cell switch. For the latter scheme, the NW configures some conditions and / or threshold for the UE to determine whether switch to a candidate cell and the NW does not need to send any cell switch command to the UE. After the UE successfully switched to the target cell, the target cell shall inform the source cell and other candidate cells. In NW initiated LTM, after switching to the target cell, the UE shall deactivate the activated TCI states that are not indicated by the cell switch command to simplify the UE behavior. The same mechanism should be applied to the CLTM scenario. however, in this case, the activated TCI states should be deactivated after the UE successfully switches to a candidate cell according to the 5G framework. How to make efficient use of the activated candidate cell TCI state in is provided as follows.

[0096] In some embodiments, for NW initiated LTM, the UE may deactivate the activated TCI states that are not indicated by the cell switch command to simplify the UE behavior after receiving the CSC. For UE initiated LTM, the UE may have different options. In a first option, the UE may deactivate the activated TCI states that are not determined for the target cell after the UE sends the first UL transmission for the target cell. In a second option, the UE may deactivate the activated TCI states that are not determined for the target cell after the UE successfully switches to a candidate cell, which is selected as the target cell. In a third option, the UE may deactivate the activated TCI states that are not determined for the target cell after the UE selects the target cell. Note that the UE may determine it successfully switches to the target cell by receiving a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) with a DCI format scheduling a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission with a same HARQ process number as for the transmission of the first PUSCH and having a toggled new data indicator (NDI) field value.

[0097] In some embodiments, for NW initiated LTM, the UE may retain activated TCI states for the target cell and deactivate all activated TCI states for other candidate cells after receiving the CSC. For UE initiated LTM, the UE may only retain the activated TCI states for the target cell and deactivate all the activated TCI states for other candidate cells after the UE successfully switches to the target cell.

[0098] In some embodiments, each of the activated TCI states for the target cell is mapped to a TCI field codepoint for unified TCI state indication for the target cell. The TCI state indicated in the CSC or the TCI state selected for UE initiated LTM may be determined as the unified TCI state for the target cell.

[0099] To support this feature, the candidate cell (s) shall transmit the TRSs associated with the activated TCI states when receiving the candidate cell TCI state activation command. If the activated TCI states are associated with a DL RS for pathloss estimation for UL power control, which may also be called pathless reference signal (PL-RS) , the target cell shall transmit the DL RS after the source serving cell transmits the CSC. Accordingly, the UE can receive the DL RS for pathloss estimation for UL power control associated with the activated TCI states after receiving the CSC.
