Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to determination of a slot structure. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) obtains a configuration of a slot structure for at least one slot, wherein a slot of the at least one slot comprises at least one of a normal cyclic prefix (CP) symbol, an extended CP symbol and a first CP and its associated data, wherein the first CP is longer than an extended CP. Based on the configuration, the UE determines a slot structure for the at least one slot. Then the UE performs reception from a base station (BS) in the at least one slot based on the slot structure.

Description

DETERMINATION OF SLOT STRUCTURETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to determination of a slot structure.BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations (BSs) , which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication devices, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] With the development of the communication, a normal cyclic prefix (CP) fails to satisfy 6G sensing requirements, making an extended CP mandatory for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) measurements. However, enabling the extended CP on every symbol of a slot and leaving it semi-statically configured leads to a waste of air-interface capacity. Therefore, several issues related to the CP of the slot structure remain to be addressed.SUMMARY

[0004] The present disclosure relates to methods, apparatuses, and systems that support the determination of a slot structure in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0063] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0064] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0065] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0066] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0067] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0068] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0069] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0070] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0071] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0072] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0073] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0074] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0075] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0076] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0077] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0078] Table 1 shows the maximum additional delay and the corresponding one-way distance difference for normal CP and extended CP under a 30 kHz subcarrier spacing, together with typical deployment scenarios. Table 1. CP length, maximum delay and distance difference, and typical scenarios

[0079] The CP length T_CP directly determines the maximum additional round-trip delay that can be absorbed: Δt_max = T_CP     (1)

[0080] The one-way distance difference is: ΔR_max=c  T_CP  / 2, where c=3×10^8m / s  (2)

[0081] It is to be noted that the CP length defined in the protocol scales with the subcarrier spacing μ, but the absolute time duration remains constant. Therefore, the ΔR_max is independent of μ.

[0082] A normal CP fails to satisfy 6G sensing requirements, making extended CP mandatory for ISAC measurements. Specifically, with a normal CP duration of 1.17 μs, any reflector beyond approximately 0.3 km produces multipath that arrives after the CP ends. Once the CP is removed, this late energy remains inside the OFDM symbol and is processed as a legitimate radar echo. The resulting ghost target folds into the 0–300 m range bin and obscures real objects. Extending the CP to 4.17 μs (i.e., the extended CP) widens the unambiguous window to approximately 1.2 km. As a result, the same distant multipath is now wholly contained within the CP and is discarded before matched-filter processing. Consequently, the extended CP is essential for monostatic 6G sensing use-cases such as urban macro-cells, low-altitude UAV detection and highway roadside units.

[0083] An extended CP slot contains 12 symbols, which reduces peak throughput by approximately 14 %versus the 14-symbol normal CP slot, yet the extended CP cyclic prefix is beneficial for the few symbols that actually carry the sensing waveform.

[0084] Therefore, a mixed-CP slot structure that can be preconfigured or configured and indicated dynamically is being considered. An ISAC slot could be activated on demand instead of being permanently set to the 12-symbol extended CP format. Since measurements may not be needed in every slot, or even across an entire slot, a handful of symbols is sufficient usually. The remaining symbols and slots could then revert to normal CP to safeguard overall spectral efficiency.

[0085] In addition, Table 2 shows the estimated sensing range and the CP Length in different scenarios. Table 2. Estimated Sensing Range and CP Length in different scenarios

[0086] Table 3 shows the CP extension proposals for extreme channels (satellite, air-to-ground, ultra-long rural) . Table 3. CP extension proposals for extreme channels

[0087] Based on Table 2 and Table 3, it becomes evident that traditional normal CP and extended CP, as defined in 5G NR, are insufficient to meet the demanding sensing requirements of 6G, especially in scenarios involving ultra-long-range detection or rich multipath environments.

[0088] The normal CP (0.59 μs, 144 samples @120 kHz) is designed for low-delay-spread environments like indoor hotspots. However, in dense urban or suburban macro scenarios, where sensing ranges extend to 300–1000 meters, the delay spread can easily exceed 300 ns, causing inter-symbol interference (ISI) and degrading sensing accuracy.

[0089] The extended CP (1.18–2.36 μs, 288–576 samples) partially addresses moderate delay spreads in dense urban or suburban macro cases. However, for rural or extreme long-distance sensing (e.g., 2–5 km) , the delay spread can reach several microseconds, far beyond what extended CP can handle.

[0090] Table 4 shows the use cases with different sensing ranges. Table 4. Use cases with different sensing ranges

[0091] To support high-precision sensing over kilometer-level distances, an ultra-extended CP or even custom-defined CP lengths is required for 6G systems.

[0092] These longer CP durations (up to 10 μs+, or 2457+ samples) are essential to preserve orthogonality in OFDM-based sensing waveforms, mitigate ISI caused by long-delay reflections, and maintain range resolution and Doppler estimation accuracy in radar-like sensing.

[0093] In summary, the normal CP and the extended CP are no longer sufficient for 6G sensing applications. Longer, configurable CP lengths are to be introduced and standardized to support diverse sensing ranges and propagation environments, especially in rural, air-to-ground, and satellite-linked scenarios. This shift is critical for enabling integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) as a native capability in 6G networks

[0094] In view of the above discussions, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for determination of a slot structure. In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a UE obtains a configuration of a slot structure for at least one slot, wherein a slot of the at least one slot comprises at least one of a normal CP symbol, an extended CP symbol and a first CP and its associated data, wherein the first CP is longer than an extended CP. Based on the configuration, the UE determines a slot structure for the at least one slot. Then the UE performs reception from a base station (BS) in the at least one slot based on the slot structure.

[0095] In this way, the slot structure may be configured more flexible and spectral efficiency is improved. Further, the slot structure may be sufficient for the sensing service. Principles and implementations of embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 2-14.

[0096] FIG. 2 illustrates an example signaling chart illustrating an example process that supports determination of a slot structure in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. It would be appreciated that although the process 200 is applied in the communication environment 100 of FIG. 1, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.

[0097] In the process 200, the UE 201 obtains 210 a configuration of a slot structure for at least one slot. A slot of the at least one slot comprises at least one of a normal CP symbol, an extended CP symbol and a first CP and its associated data, and the first CP is longer than an extended CP. In other words, the slot structure may be configured with mixed-CP comprising both normal CP and extended CP symbols or be configured with a longer CP than the extended CP.

[0098] In 5G NR, both the CP type and the frame-structure pattern are semi-statically configured by higher-layer parameters (e.g., RRC) , with no physical-layer flag being sent in every slot.

[0099] The CP type is signaled once within the numerology as: cp-Extension =normal | extended. Only the subcarrier spacing with μ = 2 (60 kHz) can use extended CP; all other sub-carrier spacings are fixed to normal CP.

[0100] Regarding the frame-structure information, the RRC message pre-defines a set of slot-format tables (downlink, uplink or flexible symbols) . The gNB may then pick one entry on a per-slot basis through the slot format indicator (SFI) field in DCI 2_0, so the actual downlink (DL)  / uplink (UL) pattern can change dynamically without reconfiguring RRC.

[0101] Thus, the CP length is static for the duration of the BWP, whereas the instantaneous slot format can be switched symbol-by-symbol via low-cost PHY signalling.

[0102] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may obtain the configuration by obtaining the configuration based on a pre-configuration.

[0103] Alternatively, the UE 201 may obtain the configuration by receiving the configuration from the BS. Correspondingly, the BS 202 transmits 215 the configuration 220 of a slot structure for at least one slot to the UE 201.

[0104] In some examples, the BS 202 may (pre) configure or indicate the configuration. The (pre) configuration information may be a higher layer signalling, and the indication information may be a PHY layer control information.

[0105] In some embodiments, the configuration 220 may indicate a set of candidate patterns of the slot structure, a pattern among the set of candidate patterns used for the at least one slot, a combination of above two items. The candidate patterns comprise the normal CP symbol and the extended CP symbol.

[0106] As shown in FIG. 3, the set of candidate patterns may comprise 7 patterns. 3 or more normal CP symbols are placed at the start of the slot to align with the fact that the PDCCH typically occupies the first 1–3 OFDM symbols. It helps reduce the complexity of both blind detection and CORESET design.

[0107] The pattern 0 is the normal CP slot, and the pattern 6 is the extended CP slot. The normal CP slot and the normal CP slot are legacy slot structures. Table 5 shows legacy slot structures for various SCSs with different sensing ranges. Table 5. Legacy slot structure for various SCS

[0108] Table 6 shows proposed slot structures for various SCSs. It can be seen that the total number of symbols per slot is 13. Each slot contains seven Normal CP (normal CP) symbols and six Extended CP (extended CP) symbols. The allocation of normal CP and extended CP symbols varies depending on the subcarrier spacing. Table 6. Proposed slot structure for various SCSs

[0109] As shown in FIG. 3, patterns 1-5 are proposed slot structures. Pattern 1 shows a slot structure with 7 normal CP symbols in the first half slot followed by 6 extended CP symbols in the second half slot. The block 310 is the normal CP and the block 320 is the extended CP.

[0110] Pattern 2 shows a slot structure begins with three Normal CP symbols followed by three Extended CP symbols, then four Normal CP symbols followed by another three Extended CP symbols. Pattern 3 shows a slot structure begins with four Normal CP symbols followed by three Extended CP symbols, then three Normal CP symbols followed by another three Extended CP symbols. Pattern 4 shows a slot structure starting with three Normal CP symbols followed by two Extended CP symbols, then two Normal CP symbols and two Extended CP symbols, and finally another two Normal CP symbols followed by two Extended CP symbols. Pattern 5 shows a slot structure starting with three Normal CP symbols, then alternating one Extended CP symbol and one Normal CP symbol several times, and ending with two Extended CP symbols.

[0111] These examples of patterns demonstrate different possible distributions of normal CP and extended CP symbols in a slot, which may be applied depending on system requirements for delay spread tolerance and sensing accuracy.

[0112] In addition, the configuration may indicate the pattern among the set of candidate patterns used for the at least one slot by including an index indication information indicating one slot structure pattern of full set of candidate slot structure patterns (i.e., one of slot structure patterns 0-6) . In an example, 3 bits of the index indication information may represent 7 patterns. In another example, 2 bits of the index indication information may represent 4 patterns. Table 7 shows the mapping between candidate slot structure patterns and the corresponding indication information. Each slot structure pattern (from pattern 0 to pattern 6) is assigned a unique 3-bit binary code, enabling the network to represent up to seven different slot structure patterns with only three bits of signaling overhead. Table 7: Mapping of slot structure patterns to 3-bit indication information

[0113] Alternatively or additionally, if the configuration indicates the set of candidate patterns of the slot structure, the BS 202 may transmit, to the UE 201, an indication of a pattern among the set of candidate patterns for a current slot of the slot structure.

[0114] Correspondingly, the UE 201 may further receive, from the BS 202, an indication of a pattern among the set of candidate patterns of the slot structure for a current slot.

[0115] In some embodiments, the BS 202 may transmit the indication of the pattern by to the UE 201 via DCI, and the UE 201 may receive the indication of the pattern by: receiving the indication of the pattern via DCI.

[0116] In an example, the BS 202 may transmit the configuration to the UE 201. Then the BS 202 may transmit an indication information (i.e., the indication of the pattern) in the DCI. The indication information is a x-bit (e.g., 3bits) indicator representing the slot structure for current slot, and the slot structure for current slot is from (pre) configured candidate slot structure patterns. The UE 201 may monitor the DCI. Upon detection of the x-bit indicator (e.g., 3bits) therein, the UE 201 may apply the indicated slot structure pattern to the current slot.

[0117] In some alternative embodiments, the configuration may indicate a predefined pattern for one or more slots, a pattern among a subset of candidate patterns of the slot structure, at least one time domain location at which the pattern used for the at least one slot is applied, a periodicity at which the pattern used for the at least one slot is applied, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.

[0118] The predefined pattern comprises a slot with one symbol type comprising the normal CP symbol and the extended CP symbol. In an example, the predefined pattern may be pattern 0 or pattern 6 in FIG. 3. In a further example, the configuration may include an indication of the predefined pattern to be used for all slots, e.g., a 1-bit indicator.

[0119] The candidate patterns comprise the normal CP symbol and the extended CP symbol, and the pattern is used for the at least one slot among the one or more slots. In an example, the subset of candidate patterns of the slot structure may comprise patterns 1-5 in FIG. 3. In a further example, the configuration may include a 3-bit indicator to select one of the slot structure patterns from Pattern 1 to Pattern 5. Alternatively, a 2-bit indicator can be used to represent the selected pattern from 4 patterns.

[0120] Table 8 shows a subset of candidate patterns of the slot structure and the corresponding indication information. Table 8: Mapping of slot structure patterns to 3-bit indication information

[0121] In a further example, the configuration may include an indication of the time domain locations where the selected slot structure pattern (from Patterns 1–5) applies. For instance, a 1024-bit bitmap may be used to indicate whether each of the corresponding 1024 slots is configured as the selected pattern or remains as the predefined pattern (i.e., normal CP or extended CP slot) .

[0122] In a further example, the configuration may include an indication of the periodicity at which the selected slot structure pattern (from Patterns 1–5) is applied. For example, the pattern may repeat every 1ms, 2ms, 5ms, 10ms, 20ms, 50ms, 100ms, 200ms, etc.

[0123] In some embodiments, the slot may comprise the normal CP symbol and the extended CP symbol, and the configuration may indicate a starting symbol and a duration of the extended CP symbol in the slot, or a starting symbol of the extended CP symbol in the slot.

[0124] The configuration may be a x-bit indication. In an example, the x-bit indication may contain both the starting symbol index and the duration of the extended CP symbol. The UE 201 may apply those values directly to the current slot.

[0125] In another example, the x-bit indication may carry only the starting symbol index. The duration is pre-defined (e.g., six symbols) . The UE 201 may adopt the signalled the x-bit indication may contain index and the fixed length.

[0126] For a 3-bit field, the UE 201 selects one of at most eight candidate starting symbol indices. For a 2-bit field, the UE 201selects one of at most four candidate starting symbol indices.

[0127] In a further example, the BS 202 may transmit, within the DCI, indication information that either explicitly indicates both the starting symbol index and the duration (in symbols) of the extended CP symbol, or indicates only the starting symbol index while the duration is pre-defined (e.g., fixed to six symbols) .

[0128] The starting symbol and a duration of the extended CP symbol may be indicated by an x-bit field. A 2-bit field enumerates at most four candidate starting indices, likewise mapping to four predefined slot structure patterns. A 3-bit field enumerates at most eight candidate starting indices, and each index implicitly defining a corresponding slot structure pattern.

[0129] Table 9 shows the 3-bit field enumerating at most eight candidate starting indices. The index 000 corresponds to the first example shown in FIG. 4. It can be seen that the starting symbol is Symbol#4, and the duration of the extended CP symbols in the slot is 6.

[0130] The index 001 corresponds to the second example shown in FIG. 4. It can be seen that the starting symbol is Symbol#5, and the duration of the extended CP symbols in the slot is 6. The index 010 corresponds to the third example shown in FIG. 4. It can be seen that the starting symbol is Symbol#6, and the duration of the extended CP symbols in the slot is 6. The index 011 corresponds to the fourth example shown in FIG. 4. It can be seen that the starting symbol is Symbol#7, and the duration of the extended CP symbols in the slot is 6. The index 100 corresponds to the fifth example shown in FIG. 4. It can be seen that the starting symbol is Symbol#8, and the duration of the extended CP symbols in the slot is 6. Table 9. 3-bit field enumerating at most eight candidate starting indices

[0131] In some alternative embodiments, the configuration may indicate a number of consecutive symbols carrying the first CP and its associated data, at least one time domain location of the consecutive symbols, or a combination of above two items.

[0132] The number of consecutive symbols jointly carry the first CP field and their data payload. For example, as shown in FIG. 5, the block 510 is the first CP, the block 520 is the data, and the block 530 is the blank interval. Symbol#7-8 and symbol#11-12 (from symbol#0-13) are used for longer CP transmission.

[0133] With considering the first 1-3 symbols of a slot may carry control information, the first 1-3 symbols of a slot are kept unchanged and the configuration may be reduced to 13-11 bits corresponding to the PDCCH region.

[0134] In some embodiments, the at least one time domain location of consecutive symbols may be indicated by a bitmap whose bit locations correspond to symbol indices of the slot. The configuration can be conveyed by a bit field whose size equals the number of symbols per slot, e.g. a 14-bit bitmap “00000001100110” that represents the location of the first CP symbol (s) .

[0135] Table 10 shows the starting symbols and corresponding indices. Table 10. starting symbols and corresponding indices

[0136] The length of symbols, i.e., the number of consecutive symbols carrying the first CP and its associated data, may be (pre) defined or (pre) configuration or or signaled separately. Table 11 shows the number of consecutive symbols and corresponding indices. Table 11. the number of consecutive symbols and corresponding indices

[0137] It is to be noted that the starting symbol index and the number of contiguous symbols can be further constrained to reduce the bit-size of the (pre) configuration or indication field.

[0138] Tables 10 and 11 suit for one block (including more than one contiguous symbol ) used for the first CP. As shown in FIG. 6, “0111” represents the block is starting from symbol#7, and the length of the block, i.e., number of contiguous symbols, is (pre) configured or indicated as “0011” .

[0139] In some embodiments, at least one time domain location may comprise at least one starting symbol, or a field of the number of consecutive symbols and a field of the at least one starting symbol of the consecutive symbols are joint coded.

[0140] Although the two separate fields (starting symbol and number of contiguous symbols) are each encoded with 4 bits, their actual valid value ranges are much smaller than 16. Therefore, joint coding can be considered. The two fields may be combined into a more compact index to reduce the total number of bits. Further, these two fields may be jointly encoded into a single index, mapping them into a one-dimensional table that only includes valid combinations.

[0141] In an example, the starting symbol have 9 values (e.g., 3–11) and the contiguous symbols have 10 values (e.g., 2–11) . Therefore, the total number of combinations is 90 (i.e., the product of 9 and 10) , and the number of bits required for encoding is 7 bits (i.e., log290) .

[0142] In some alternative embodiments, the configuration may further indicate a duration of the first CP, a duration of the data, a duration of the first CP and its associated data, a blank interval inserted among the number of consecutive symbols or at the end of number of consecutive symbols, or any combination of two or more of above mentioned items.

[0143] Alternatively or additionally, the duration of the first CP for part of the consecutive symbols may be indicated by a sequence of CP length values, each CP length value corresponding to part of the consecutive symbols.

[0144] The durations of the first CPs in different slots may be (pre) configured or indicated difference. As shown in FIG. 7, the number of consecutive symbols in the two slots is 3, but the durations of the first CP for the two slots are different.

[0145] The duration of the data may be fixed to the FFT size, i.e., identical to the data region of a normal CP symbol. The duration of the data may be kept unchanged to keep device complexity low.

[0146] The blank interval (if any) may be inserted before, after, or between the first CPs. The blank interval may be calculated by the number of consecutive symbols, the duration of the first CP, the duration of the data (fixed) .

[0147] In addition, the configuration may further include the duration of the extended CP, the duration of the data and the blank interval. The blank interval may be derived from the number of consecutive symbols, the duration of the extended CP, and the fixed duration of the data.

[0148] The durations of the extended CPs in different slots may be (pre) configured or indicated difference. As shown in FIG. 7, the number of consecutive symbols is 3. However, the actual lengths of the extended CP fields are different.

[0149] It is to be understood that neither the duration of the data nor the blank interval is to be (pre) configured or indicated. They may be implied or fixed.

[0150] FIG. 8 illustrates an example of 4 symbols with first CPs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 8, four consecutive symbols are used, occupying 2192 × 4 samples. The duration of the data is fixed to the FFT size (2048 samples) . Within the block, the first CP lengths are 874, 875, and 875. There is no blank interval inserted.

[0151] In the case of FIG. 8, in an example, the configuration may be configured or indicated as 14-bit bitmap “00000011110000” marking the first CP locations, plus the three durations of the first CP (874, 875, 875) . In another example, the configuration may be configured or indicated as a starting symbol index “0111” (i.e., symbol #6) and / or number of contiguous symbols “0100” (i.e., value 4) , with the durations of the first CP as above. The number of contiguous symbols may also be fixed at 4.

[0152] In yet another example, the configuration may be configured or indicated as a joint code for starting-symbol index and number of contiguous symbols, plus the same CP durations.

[0153] As shown in FIG. 9, the number of consecutive symbols is five, corresponding to 2192 × 5 samples. The data-part duration remains fixed to the FFT size (e.g., 2048 samples) . Within this five-symbol block, the CP lengths may be configured or indicated to be 1024 samples. Here, the blank interval is 1744.

[0154] Alternatively, the configuration may indicate the number of data-part durations contained within the consecutive symbols-e.g., 3 in FIG. 9 or 4 in FIG. 10. A single bit field may be used, and 0 indicates 3 data parts, 1 indicates 4 data parts.

[0155] The CP length (s) of the first CP may be (pre-) configured or indicated independently of, or in association with, the number of data parts. For 3 data parts, each CP length ranges from 144 to 1605 / 1606 samples. For 4 data parts, each CP length ranges from 144 to 692 samples.

[0156] Additionally, the duration of the first CP for the part may be uniform or non-uniform. For example, the individual CP lengths may be set to uniform or non-uniform values across the symbols, with any value from 144 up to 2048 samples.

[0157] Continue to refer to FIG. 2, the UE 201 determines 225 a slot structure for the at least one slot based on the configuration. For example, the UE 201 may determine a slot structure pattern, which the UE 201 then applies to receive in the current slot.

[0158] In some embodiments, in order to determine a slot structure, the UE 201 may determine the blank interval based on the number of the consecutive symbols, the duration of the first CP, and the duration of the data.

[0159] Alternatively or additionally, in order to determine a slot structure, the UE 201 may determine the duration of the first CP based on a number of data parts.

[0160] Additionally, in order to determine a slot structure, the UE 201 may determine the duration of the first CP based on the configuration.

[0161] In addition, in order to determine a slot structure, the UE 201 may determine the duration of the first CP based on a pre-configuration.

[0162] On the other side of the communication, the BS 202 may determine the blank interval based on the number of the consecutive symbols, the duration of the first CP, and the duration of the data.

[0163] Additionally, the BS 202 may determine the duration of the first CP based on a number of data parts or a pre-configuration.

[0164] Continue to refer to FIG. 2, the BS 202 performs 230 transmission 235 to the UE 201 in the at least one slot based on the configuration 220.

[0165] In an example, the BS 202 performs transmissions in the current slot in accordance with that pattern indicated in the configuration 220.

[0166] In another example, the BS 202 may transmit to the UE 201 a slot that contains normal CP symbols, first CPs, data parts, and, if applicable, blank intervals, exactly as pre-configured or indicated.

[0167] Continue to refer to FIG. 2, the UE performs 240 the reception from the BS 202 in the at least one slot based on the slot structure.

[0168] In some embodiments, in order to perform the reception, the UE 201 may determine a continuous sample stream, wherein a number of the continuous sample stream equals a number of at least one first CP sample, at least one data sample, at least one blank sample in the continuous sample stream. Then the UE 201 removes the at least one first CP sample. Based on a configured FFT size, the UE 201 performs an FFT on the at least one data sample. After that the UE 201skips the at least one blank sample without performing the FFT.

[0169] In an example, the UE 201 may receive the configuration that specifies the total number of contiguous symbols, the location of total number of contiguous symbols, e.g., the starting symbol, the length of the first CP, the fixed data-part length (always equal to FFT size) , and the blank interval (if any) inserted before, after, or between symbols. Upon receiving the configuration or indication, the UE 201 determines the whole block as one continuous sample stream whose total length equals is calculated by adding the following three components: the sum of all cyclic prefix durations, the total length of all data parts (derived from the number of data parts and the FFT size) , and the duration of any blank samples. Then the UE 201 may remove the indicated CP samples and perform FFT on the 2048  / 4096  / 8192 data samples, depending on the configured FFT size. After that, the UE 201 may skip the blank interval samples without FFT processing.

[0170] With the process 200, the slot structure may be configured more flexible and spectral efficiency is improved. Further, the slot structure may be sufficient for the sensing service.

[0171] FIG. 11 illustrates an example of a device 1100 that supports determination of a slot structure in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 1100 may be an example of a network entity 102 or a UE 104 as described herein. The device 1100 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 1100 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 1102, a memory 1104, a transceiver 1106, and, optionally, an I / O controller 1108. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .

[0172] The processor 1102, the memory 1104, the transceiver 1106, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. For example, the processor 1102, the memory 1104, the transceiver 1106, or various combinations or components thereof may support a method for performing one or more of the operations described herein.

[0173] In some implementations, the processor 1102, the memory 1104, the transceiver 1106, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in hardware (e.g., in communications management circuitry) . The hardware may include a processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, a discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof configured as or otherwise supporting a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure. In some implementations, the processor 1102 and the memory 1104 coupled with the processor 1102 may be configured to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., executing, by the processor 1102, instructions stored in the memory 1104) .
