Abstract
The invention relates to a method and system for securing a software licence (200) through a tamperproof link to a hardware device (300). A trusted module (310), executed in a secure execution environment of the hardware device (300), reads a unique serial number (USN) inscribed in a component and generates a unique identifier (UID) by applying an irreversible cryptographic function. The UID is stored in a smart contract (400) deployed on a distributed ledger technology (500), associated with a digital wallet the private key of which is protected in the hardware device (300). A software licence (200) is assigned via a non-fungible token or equivalent data structure referencing the UID. The validity of the software licence (200) is checked periodically by recalculating the UID and comparing it with the stored UID. The software licence (200) is linked to the hardware device (300) by a bidirectional double cryptographic anchor, rendering any copy of the device incapable of replicating the link.
