[0001] “STABLE SYNERGISTIC HERBICIDAL COMPOSITION AND PROCESS OF PREPARATION THEROF”
[0002] FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The present invention relates to a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising bioactive amounts of herbicidal compounds. In particular, the present invention relates to a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising A) a compound of Formula I, i.e., 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl]sulfamoyl}amino)-N, N-dimethylbenzamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) a compound of Formula II, i.e., 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl]sulfamoyl}methyl)benzoic acid or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) a compound of Formula III, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-[2,4-dichloro-5-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives for synergistic and effective control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crops. The present invention also relates to a process for preparation of such stable herbicidal composition for synergistic and efficacious control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crops.
[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The growing global need for food production, alongside the challenges imposed by weed competition, has made the development of effective herbicidal compositions essential. Weeds have been a persistent potential challenge for farmers because of a significant decline in crop yields resulting substantial financial losses to farmers. Traditional weed control methods have proved to be less effective as they often require manual removal, intensive labour, etc rendering them ineffective especially for large-scale agricultural settings. Furthermore, weed population also compete with the main crops because of increased competition for essential resources such as sunlight, water, and nutrients, etc. The increasing adoption of intensive cropping practices and reduced manual labor availability has further intensified the reliance on chemical weed management strategies.
[0006] As a result, the use of herbicidal formulations for weed management has become widespread in agricultural practices. Conventional weed control practices primarily rely on the application of single-mode-of-action herbicides or sequential applications of multiple herbicides. However, prolonged and repeated use of individual herbicides has resulted in the developmentof herbicide-resistant weed biotypes, shifts in weed flora, and inconsistent weed control performance.
[0007] Sulfonylurea herbicides such as Compound of Formula I and Compound of Formula II exhibit selective control of certain grasses, sedges and broad-leaf weeds through inhibition of acetolactate synthase (ALS). However, when used individually or in tank mixtures, these herbicides may fail to provide effective control of weeds outside their respective activity spectrum or demonstrate sub-optimal residual activity, leading to weed escapes and requiring repeated applications.
[0008] A compound of formula III, a PPO-inhibiting herbicide, provides rapid contact suppression of emerging weeds but often lacks sufficient post-emergence residual control when applied alone.
[0009] Although combinations of two herbicidal actives are known, existing dual combinations (e.g., Compound of formula III with a single sulfonylurea) are disclosed in the prior art but suffer from limited spectrum or lack of demonstrated synergistic performance.
[0010] References can be made to CN103960268A, which discloses a herbicidal composition comprising Compound of Formula III and Compound of Formula I in a ratio range of 10:1-1:10.
[0011] Further refences can be made to CN103975938, which discloses weeding composition for preventing and killing annual weeds in paddy fields is characterized in that: the composition comprises the effective components of Compound of formula III, pretilachlor and cyclosulfamuron, the weight ratio of the Compound of formula III, the pretilachlor and the cyclosulfamuron is 1-50: 1-80: 1-40, the total weight percentage of the Compound of formula III, the pretilachlor and the cyclosulfamuron in the composition is 0.1-85%, and the balance is auxiliary components which are allowed to be used and can be accepted in herbicidal formulations.
[0012] Therefore, there remains a need for a novel herbicidal composition that reliably combines multiple active ingredients with complementary modes of action in defined weight percentage ranges to achieve broader weed control, enhanced residual efficacy, synergy, crop selectivity, and reduced potential for resistance development. The present invention aims to tackle these existing challenges in weed management by introducing a new and inventive herbicidal composition & its formulations that provides a solution that integrates improved efficacy, effectiveness, selectivity, and environmental safety, meeting the demands of contemporary farming while promoting the sustainability of agricultural practices.
[0013] As a result, the present invention reveals a synergistic herbicidal formulation that delivers long-lasting results and addresses the limitations found in existing literature. Through research and development, the inventor has successfully combined effective herbicidal agents to create a stable synergistic herbicidal composition.
[0014] Pyrimidinylsulfonylurea herbicides, such as Compound of formula I, flazasulfuron, azimsulfuron, ethoxysulfuron, etc are recognized for their pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicidal efficacy. These compounds control a diverse spectrum of both annual and perennial weed species. However, amongst the various pyrimidinylsulfonylurea compounds, Compound of formula I demonstrates significant superior herbicidal activity compared to flazasulfuron, etc. This enhanced performance underscores the potential of Compound of formula I as a valuable compound in weed management strategies.
[0015] Further, a compound of Formula I, belong to the class of pyrimidinylsulfonylurea and is chemically known as 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl]sulfamoyl}amino)-N, N-dimethylbenzamide. It is systemically absorbed by foliage and roots. It works by inhibiting the plant enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS), also known as acetohydroxy acid synthase (AHAS). This inhibition blocks the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids, such as valine, leucine, and isoleucine, which are essential for plant growth. It is a pre- and post-emergence rice herbicide active against grasses and some broad-leaved weeds. It is mainly used in rice, Transplanted Rice (Paddy), etc and shows high efficacy in controlling weeds such as Sedges including flatsedge, Grass weeds including Barnyardgrass, Velvetleaf, Water-plantain, Mudplantain, Sagittaria, False pimpernel, etc.
[0016] Furthermore, a compound of Formula II, i.e., belongs to the chemical group of pyrimidinylsulfonylurea. It has the chemical name as 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl] sulfamoyl }methyl)benzoic acid or methyl 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl] sulfamoyl }methyl)benzoate and shows to have better herbicidal activity, specifically used to control annual and perennial weeds and sedges such as Pigweed,Chickweed, Wild mustard, Stinkgrass, Barnyardgrass, Rice flatsedge, Dwarf umbrella grass, Nut-grass, Creeping water primrose in crops such as Cereals especially wheat, Rice, etc. It is one of the most important classes of herbicides which is absorbed by roots and translocated through-out plant by controlling the synthesis of amino acids i.e., by inhibition of acetohydroxyacid synthase “AHAS”. These herbicides have excellent broad-spectrum activity against broad-leaved weeds, grasses and sedges in rice, etc. These are known for their low toxicity, low effective concentration, broad herbicidal spectrum, quick onset of action, and long-lasting effect. Furthermore, it shows synergistic effect when used along with other components.
[0017] Furthermore, a compound of Formula III, belongs to the chemical group of N-phenyloxadiazolone. It is oxadiazolone herbicide, specifically known as 5-tert-butyl-3-[2,4-dichloro-5-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one. It is used as a pre-emergence oxadiazolone herbicide for grass and broad-leaved weed control. It has a selective activity and works by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) to disrupt cell membrane. It is a preemergence oxadiazolone herbicide for grass and broad-leaved weed control. It is effective against Annual grasses including crabgrass, Echinochloa; Sedges; Broad-leaved weeds including Phyllanthus; Solanaceae weeds; etc. and can be effectively applied to Rice; Sugarcane; Sunflower; Transplanted vegetables; Potatoes; Capsiums; etc.
[0018] Therefore, the present invention aims to develop a stable synergistic herbicidal composition, which results in broader spectrum of action. Thus, the present invention provides a stable synergistic herbicidal composition for protecting plants, crops against unwanted weeds.
[0019] Compound of formula I and Compound of formula II are acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibiting herbicides that are effective at low application rates and provide systemic control of susceptible weeds. However, despite belonging to the same biochemical class, these herbicides differ in their absorption, translocation, and weed control spectrum. Compound of Formula II demonstrates effective control of certain grasses and broad-leaf weeds, whereas Compound of Formula II is particularly effective against sedges and select broad-leaf weeds. When applied individually, neither herbicide is capable of providing comprehensive weed control, resulting in weed escapes and the need for repeated applications.
[0020] Compound of Formula III, a protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitor, exhibits rapid contact activity and is effective in suppressing early -emerging weeds during critical crop establishment stages. However, Formula III alone does not provide adequate residual control.During the development of the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention, the inventors recognized that combining Compound of formula III with systemic ALS inhibitors could potentially integrate rapid early weed suppression with prolonged residual activity.
[0021] The present invention not only satisfies but also exceeds the existing needs, and generally overcomes the deficiencies found in the prior art. The stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention is efficacious, environment friendly, simple to formulate, stable, safe to use, cost effective and has longer shelf life.
[0022] Thus, the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention aims to overcome the problems of the prior art and provides a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising A) a compound of Formula I, i.e., 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl] sulfamoyl} amino) -N, N-dimethylbenzamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) a compound of Formula II, i.e., 2-({ [(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl] sulfamoyl }methyl)benzoic acid or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) a compound of Formula III, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-[2,4-dichloro-5-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives for synergistic and effective control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crops.

To “control” weeds may or may not mean killing the weeds although, it preferably means killing / removal the weeds. The term “health of a plant” or “plant health” is defined as a condition of the plant and / or its products. As a result of the improved health; yield, plant vigour, quality and tolerance to abiotic or biotic stress is increased. As a result, the health of a plant is increased even in the absence of weed pressure.
[0096] Accordingly, in an especially preferred embodiment according to the invention, the health of a plant is increased both in the presence and absence of biotic or abiotic stress factors. An increase in plant vigor may for example results in an increased yield and / or tolerance to abiotic or biotic stress.
[0097] One indicator for the condition of the plant is the yield. “Yield” is to be understood as any plant product of economic value that is produced by the plant such as grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, wood or even flowers (e.g. in the case of gardening plants, ornamentals). The plant products may in addition be further utilized and / or processed after harvesting.

A low rain fastness indicates that it may be washed off or diluted by rainfall, reducing its efficacy.
[0103] The term " Increased uptake of active ingredient" refers to the enhanced absorption or penetration of the active component of a substance into the target organism (weeds) or plant. This increased uptake can lead to greater effectiveness of the product in controlling various weeds’ species at the same time. It may occur through various mechanisms, such as improved formulation, adjuvants that enhance penetration, or modifications to the active ingredient itself to facilitate absorption. [0367] MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
[0368] China clay was taken in the ribbon blender for mixing. To this. Silica ppt, Sodium Isopropyl Naphthalene Sulfonate, Sodium Lignosulphonate, Sodium salt of naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate, Sodium Polycarboxylate, Lactose monohydrate, Compound of Formula I technical, Compound of Formula II technical, Compound of Formula III technical were added and mixed well.
[0369] Mixing was continued until the material became completely homogenized. The premix was then passed through the Airjet mill at 6 to 7 kg / cm2of grinding pressure and a feeding rate of 100 to 150 kg / hr so as to obtain a particle size of D90 less than 10 microns. The ground material was collected in the post blender.
[0370] Extrusion process
[0371] Into the post blender, the solution of water and Polydimethylsiloxane emulsion was added by means of spraying, and a dough was prepared. This dough was mixed well to obtain a well-hydrated mass for extrusion. The dough was then allowed to pass through the screw valve fitted with the post blender and subsequently passed through the basket extruder.
[0372] Drying Process
[0373] The wet extruded granules were passed through the VFBG (vibro fluid bed drier), which had been brought to a consistent temperature of 50 °C prior to drying. The granules were then checked for moisture content, which was required to be not more than 3%. Once the parameter was set, the process was continued.
[0374] The dried granules were passed through a vibro sieve machine to separate any lumps or dust, and the desired size granules were collected and packed.STABILITY DATA- Compound of Formula 115 %+ Compound of Formula II 14 % + Compound of Formula III 0.5 % WG

[0501] Evaluation of synergistic effect of stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention
[0502] A synergistic effect of two or more products exists whenever the action of an active ingredient combination is greater than the sum of the actions of the individual components. Synergism was calculated by using Colby’s method (Weeds, vol. 15 No. 1 (Jan 1967), pp. 20-2.
[0503] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of two active components can be calculated as follows:
[0504] XY
[0505] E = (X + Y) - - 100
[0506] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of three active components can be calculated as follows:
[0507] (XY+YZ+XZ) (XYZ)
[0508] E = (X + Y + Z) - - + - 100 10000
[0509] Where:
[0510] E represents expected percentage of herbicidal control for the combination of the two or three active ingredients at defined doses (for example equal to x, y and z, respectively).
[0511] X is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula I) at a defined dose (equal to x).
[0512] Y is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula II methyl) at a defined dose (equal to y).
[0513] Z is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula III) at a defined dose (equal to z).
[0514] When the percentage of herbicidal control observed for the combination is greater than the expected percentage, there is a synergism effect.
[0515] Observed control (%)Ratio = - Expected control (%)
[0516] Ratio of O / E > 1, synergism observed
[0517] The present invention is illustrated by way of examples, the examples are meant for illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting.
[0518] Experiment for Synergistic activity of stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention:
[0519] Example 1- Details of experiment on Rice crop:
[0520] Field experiment for synergistic activity of stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III for the control of weeds.
[0521] To evaluate the synergistic effect, rice (Variety: Pusa Basmati 1509) crop was sown in 22.5 cm with three replications and in Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments were sprayed pre-emergence (0-3 DAT) herbicide as WP formulation @ 625 g / ha with the help of Knapsack sprayer fitted with flat fan nozzle. Each active component was applied at four concentrations in different ternary and binary combinations. Solo components were also taken for comparison.

[0565] Treatments T1 to T28 were applied as foliar sprays, while T29 served as the untreated control. Observations were recorded for Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of grassy or narrow leaved weeds and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species for standardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 x 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. The percent weed control efficiency (WCE) was calculated based on weed population (No. m-2).
[0566] On the basis of percent WCE, the expected control was computed and compared with the observed control. The results of the trial are presented in Table 1A.

[0617] It is clearly evident from the data shown in above Table 1A for percent weed control efficacy in rice crop that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II methyl + Compound of Formula III (T1 to T3) are synergistic for weed control with > 1 Colby’s Ratio. The binary combinations of two herbicides T5 to T16 are compatible but no synergistic effect is shown for the control of weeds. The synergy data presented herein represent the cumulative efficacy against both type of weeds such as Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds; and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds.
[0618] Experiment for Bio-efficacy evaluation of Stable synergistic composition of present invention:
[0619] For the ternary and binary combination based on Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II methyl + Compound of Formula III evaluation under field conditions, the basic test composition as Compound of Formula I 9% + Compound of Formula II methyl 7.2% + Compound of Formula III 12% was manufactured. For ternary combination, Compound of Formula I 9% + Compound of Formula II methyl 7.2% + Compound of Formula III 12% WP was used and for binary combination Compound of Formula I 9% + Compound of Formula II methyl 7.2% WP, Compound of Formula I 9% + Compound of Formula III 12% WP, Compound of Formula II methyl 7.2% + Compound of Formula III 12% WP were used. The solo formulation of Compound of Formula I 9% WP, Compound of Formula II methyl 7.2% WP and Compound of Formula III 12% WP and other formulations Compound of FormulaI50%WG, Compound of Formula II methyl 60% DF, Compound of Formula III 80%WP available in the market were used for comparison. Furthermore, these herbicide treatments were compared with untreated control treatments.
[0620] Example 2- Details of experiment on rice crop:
[0621] Field experiment for synergistic activity of stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising Compound of Formula I, Compound of Formula II methyl and Compound of Formula III for the control of weeds in rice crop was conducted.
[0622] To evaluate the synergistic effect, rice (Variety: Pusa Basmati 1509) crop was sown in 22.5 cm with three replications and in Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments were sprayed pre-emergence (0-3 DAT) herbicide as WP formulation @ 625 g / ha with the help of Knapsack sprayer fitted with flat fan nozzle. Each active component was applied at three concentrations in different ternary and binary combinations. Solo components were also taken for comparison. The observations were recorded for the following objectives.
[0623] Objectives:
[0624] 1. Bio-efficacy evaluation of stable synergistic herbicidal composition against weeds on rice crop
[0625] 2. Bio-efficacy evaluation of stable synergistic herbicidal composition based on crop yield 3. Phytotoxicity evaluation of stable synergistic herbicidal composition based on rice crop

[0657] Methodology:
[0658] Treatments T1 to T18 were applied as foliar sprays, while T19 served as weeds free treatments, T20 untreated control and T21 served as Only for Phytotoxicity. A hand-operated knapsack sprayer fitted with a flat-fan nozzle was used for spray application, with a spray volume of 500 L ha -1.
[0659] In view of the weed flora present in the experimental field, Observations were recorded for Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of grassy and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species for standardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 x 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. All recorded data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the results are presented in Tables 2A, 2B and 2C.Results:

[0803] From the examples above, it is clearly seen that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention is superior for controlling the weeds at 30 days after application (Table 2A,2B and 2C) in rice crop as compared to the solo and binary compositions. Other registered formulated products available in the market, Compound of Formula I 50%WG, Compound of Formula II 60% DF, Compound of Formula III 80% WP evaluated were next in order of effectiveness after ternary combination products.
[0804] The yield of rice crop also improved in the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention comprising Compound of Formula I 9% + Compound of Formula II 7.2% + Compound of Formula III 12% WP as compared to binary, solo and other registered products in the market (Table 2B).
[0805] The disclosed stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention comprising Compound of Formula 19% + Compound of Formula II methyl 7.2% + Compound of Formula III 12% WP @ 468.75, 781.25, 625 & 1250 g / ha showed no phytotoxicity in the rice crop even after 30 days of crop sowing (Table 2C).
[0806] It is evident from the above tables of examples that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention comprising Compound of Formula 1+ Compound of Formula II methyl + Compound of Formula III resulted in good control of overall weed flora in rice with higher respective yields as compared to the reference standard products (binary compositions and solo products). Further, the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention is resulted synergistic.
[0807] In particular, it has now been found, surprisingly that, for example, the herbicidal activity of the composition of present invention, compared with the herbicidal activity of individual components, is synergistic. In fact, various advantageous properties associated with the compositions according to the invention, include but are not limited to: a broadening of the spectrum of herbicidal activity to other weeds, for example to resistant strains; a reduction in the rate of application of the active ingredients; adequate control of the weeds at a rate of application at which the individual compounds are not very effective, advantageous behaviour during formulating and / or upon application, improved stability, improved crop characteristics including crop yields, more developed root system, increase in plant health including height, improved plant vigor, less plant verse (lodging), and other advantages familiar to a person skilled in the art. From the above investigations, it will be observed that numerous modifications and variations can be effectuated without departing from the true spirit and scope of the novel concepts of the present invention. It is to be understood that no limitations with respect to the specific embodiments illustrated is intended or should be inferred. It should be understood that all such modifications and improvements have been deleted herein for the sake of conciseness and readability but are properly within the scope of the following claims.
