[0023] The present disclosure generally relates to carriers, packages, constructs, sleeves, cartons, or the like, for holding and displaying containers such as jars, bottles, cans, etc. The containers can be used for packaging food and beverage products, for example. The containers can be made from materials suitable in composition for packaging the particular food or beverage item, and the materials include, but are not limited to, glass; plastics such as PET, LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP, PS, PVC, EVOH, and Nylon; and the like; aluminum and / or other metals; or any combination thereof.
[0024] Carriers according to the present disclosure can accommodate containers of numerous different shapes. For the purpose of illustration and not for the purpose of limiting the scope of the disclosure, the following detailed description describes beverage containers (e.g., plastic bottles or containers) at least partially disposed within the carrier embodiments. In some embodiments, the carrier 105 can be considered an activated or otherwise manipulated state of the blank 103 as shown in Fig. 1.
[0042] In some embodiments, the central panel 121 can be lowered onto a plurality of containers C such that at least the cap CP and flange portion F of a respective container C can be at least partially received through a respective container opening 125.

Each container retention tab 139 contacts the base portions B of the respective containers C, e.g., in a contouring relationship. In this regard, each of the container retention tabs 127, 139 can be positioned contacting a respective portion of the containers C, with the container retention tabs 127 extending obliquely upwardly relative to the container retention tabs 139. The free edges 128 of the container retention tabs 127 engage a first portion of a respective container (e.g., the flange F) and the free edges 140 of the container retention tabs 139 engage a second portion of a respective container (e.g., neck portion N) that is below the first portion of the respective container. As shown in Fig. 3, the container retention tabs 139 are generally coplanar with the central panel 121. In some embodiments, oneAttorney Docket No. 23202.1225WO2or more of the container retention tabs 139 can at least partially fold or flex relative to the remainder of the central panel 121.
[0046] The positioning of the container retention tabs 127 contacting the flange portions F of the respective containers C in conjunction with the positioning of the container retention tabs 139 contacting the neck portion N or base portions B of the respective containers C can maintain a tightened and secure relationship between the carrier 105 and the containers C, e.g., so as to minimize, inhibit, prevent, and / or otherwise avoid relative movement therebetween. Furthermore, such arrangement of container retention tabs 127, 139 can be aesthetically pleasing, e.g., such that the extra stabilization of the containers C afforded by the container retention tabs 139 can avoid instances in which the container retention tabs 127 loosen and disengage from the containers C.
[0047] Upon formation of the package 107, a user can engage the package 107 / carrier 105 by pressing one or more fingers against the respective pairs of handle reinforcement flaps 143 to cause at least partial separation thereof at the respective cuts 147 such that the handle reinforcement flaps 143 can fold at least partially downwardly at the respective fold lines 145 into the respective handle openings 141. In this regard, the user can curl one or more fingers downwardly through the handle opening(s) 141 to contact an edge or underside of the central panel 121 to lift or otherwise move the package 107. In some embodiments, one or both of the handle reinforcement flaps 145 can be positioned between a user’ s finger(s) and the central panel 121 , for example, to provide cushioning, avoid pinching, add an additional ply of material to avoid tearing, etc.

As shown in Fig. 9, upon upwardly folding of the first container retention tabs 127 the deflection tabs 249 can be positioned to generally coplanar with the first container retention tabs 127 and the deflection tabs 249 extend below the central panel 121. The first container retention tabs 127, second container retention tabs 139, and deflection tabs 249 can be alternatively shaped, arranged, positioned, and / or configured without departing from the disclosure.

[0063] In general, the blank may be constructed from paperboard having a caliper so that it is heavier and more rigid than ordinary paper. The blank can also be constructed of other materials, such as cardboard, or any other material having properties suitable for enabling the carrier to function at least generally as described above. The blank can be coated with, for example, a clay coating. The clay coating may then be printed over with product, advertising, and other information or images. The blanks may then be coated with a varnish to protect information printed on the blanks. The blanks may also be coated with, for example, a moisture barrier layer, on either or both sides of the blanks. The blanks can also be laminated to or coated with one or more sheet-like materials at selected panels or panel sections.

A carrier for holding a plurality of containers, the carrier comprising:a central panel comprising a plurality of container retention openings for at least partially receiving a respective container of the plurality of containers;container retention features in the central panel, the container retention features comprising a plurality of first container retention tabs foldably connected to the central panel and positioned extending into a respective container retention opening of the plurality of container retention openings, and a plurality of second container retention tabs positioned between respective adjacent first container retention tabs of the plurality of first container retention tabs,the plurality of first container retention tabs for engaging a first portion of a respective container received in a respective container retention opening and the second container retention tabs for engaging a second portion of the respective container, the second portion is below the first portion of the respective container.
2. The carrier of claim 1, wherein the first container retention tabs engage a flange portion of a respective container and the second container retention tabs engage a neck portion of a respective container of the plurality of containers.
3. The carrier of claim 1, wherein the first container retention tabs are upwardly folded relative to the central panel and the second container retention tabs are generally coplanar with the central panel.
4. The carrier of claim 1 , wherein a respective second container retention tab is defined by portions of the centred panel between respective adjacent first container retention tabs.
5. The carrier of claim 4, wherein the respective adjacent first container retention tabs are defined by cuts in the central panel and the respective second container retention tab is defined by portions of the central panel adjacent the cuts.

A blank for forming a carrier for holding a plurality of containers, the blank comprising:a central panel comprising a plurality of container retention openings for at least partially receiving a respective container of the plurality of containers;container retention features in the central panel, the container retention features comprising a plurality of first container retention tabs foldably connected to the central panel and positioned extending into a respective container retention opening of the plurality of container retention openings, and a plurality of second container retention tabs positioned between respective adjacent first container retention tabs of the plurality of first container retention tabs,the plurality of first container retention tabs for engaging a first portion of a respective container received in a respective container retention opening in the carrier formed from the blank and the second container retention tabs for engaging a second portion of the respective container in the carrier formed from the blank, the second portion is below the first portion of the respective container.

The blank of claim 12, wherein the first container retention tabs are for being upwardly folded relative to the central panel in the carrier formed from the blank and the second container retention tabs are for being generally coplanar with the central panel in the carrier formed from the blank.

The blank of claim 12, wherein a respective second container retention tab is defined by portions of the central panel between respective adjacent first container retention tabs, the respective adjacent first container retention tabs are defined by cuts in the central panel and the respective second container retention tab is defined by portions of the central panel adjacent the cuts.

A method of forming a carrier for holding a plurality of containers, the method comprising:obtaining a blank having a central panel comprising a plurality of container retention openings for at least partially receiving a respective container of the plurality of containers and container retention features in the central panel, the container retention features comprising a plurality of first container retention tabs foldably connected to the centred panel and positioned extending into a respective container retention opening of the plurality of container retentionAttorney Docket No. 23202.1225WO2openings, and a plurality of second container retention tabs positioned between respective adjacent first container retention tabs of the plurality of first container retention tabs;positioning the plurality of first container retention tabs to engage a first portion of a respective container received in a respective container retention opening and engaging a second portion of the respective container with the second container retention tabs, the second portion is below the first portion.
21. The method of claim 20, wherein the first container retention tabs engage a flange portion of a respective container and the second container retention tabs engage a neck portion of a respective container of the plurality of containers.
22. The method of claim 20, wherein the positioning the first container retention tabs comprises upwardly folding the first container retention tabs relative to the central panel and the second container retention tabs are generally coplanar with the central panel.

The method of claim 20, wherein a respective second container retention tab is defined by portions of the central panel between respective adjacent first container retention tabs,the respective adjacent first container retention tabs are defined by cuts in the central panel and the respective second container retention tab is defined by portions of the central panel adjacent the cuts.

The method of claim 23, wherein the cuts comprise a first oblique cut, a second oblique cut, and a curved cut extending between the first oblique cut and the second oblique cut, the curved cut defines a free edge of the respective second container retention tab, the engaging the second portion of the respective container comprises engaging the free edge of the respective second container retention tab with a surface of the respective container.

The method of claim 24, wherein the curved cut is a first curved cut, the respective adjacent first container retention tabs include a deflection tab defined by a second curved cut, the second curved cut is spaced apart from the first oblique cut and the second oblique cut.Attorney Docket No. 23202.1225WO226.
