[0001] This application claim priority to U.S Provisional Application 63 / 755,990 filed on February 7, 2025.BACKGROUND
[0002] Traditional means for carrying golf clubs on a golf course, either by a walking golfer or in a golf cart, comprise a soft sided golf bag with a rigid ring-shaped top member providing a defining an open top. Typically, generally having dividers for organizing clubs opening with one or more openings for retrieval and insertion of golf clubs. Such bags require an upward lifting motion of the golfer’s hand after grasping a club of approximately three feet for withdrawal of the golf clubs. For reinsertion, the club needs to be raised, aligned and then dropped into the bag. In cases where there are dividers in the top member, the insertion is a bit more challenging to identify the correct location, if there is one, and then to direct the handle end of the club into the correct opening. In that expediting pace of play on the golf course is always desirable, any golf bag configurations that facilitate quicker play, for example easier and faster club retrieval and replacement with respect to the golf bag, would be well received by the golf industry.SUMMARY
[0003] A golf club carrier, in embodiments, has a rigid top arcuate club organizer, a rigid support framework extends from the rigid arcuate top member to a rigid base. The rigid arcuate top club organizing member may have a C-shape and / or a crescent shape when viewed from above and has an arcuate row of golf club receiving slots open forwardly with respective club head receiving seats rearwardly of each golf club receiving slot. A soft material covering, such as leather, polymer sheet material, and / or fabrics, may be integrated with the rigid support frame and covers a rear side, a left side, and a right side. The soft sheet material covering or other covering may be openable at the front exposing a golf club storage region with golf clubs seated in the arcuate top club organizing member, wherein the golf clubs in the case or carrierAttorney Docket No.: 4393.0023WO1may be grasped by the golfer and be withdrawn for use by a short lift, for example six inches or less, and then a simple forward mostly horizontal motion toward the golfer.
[0004] In embodiments, a golf club earner has an open front, an open top, a closed rear side, a closed left side, a closed right side, and a closed bottom. The open top is defined by a top arcuate shaped club organizer with a plurality of upwardly and forwardly opening slots for receiving clubs. At the closed bottom, the case has a club handle organizer with a plurality of handle receptacles. The carrier may have an exteriorly exposed base providing a closed bottom.
[0005] In embodiments, the framework has a forward C-shaped elongate frame portion formed of one or more panels, when viewed from above. The forward C-shaped elongate frame portion extending from the top club organizing member to the rigid base and providing a rear boundary for the forward golf club receiving region. The rigid support frame may also have a rearward elongate frame portion extending from the base to the top arcuate club organizing member and extending from a rear portion to a left outer frame portion and a right outer frame portion, the outer frame portions having plurality of windows or openings that open into an open interior defined between forward elongate frame member and the rear elongate frame member.
[0006] The fabric covering may include closable pockets positioned at or within the windows defined in the outer frame portions storage for accessories. The fabric covering may have a pair of closeable and openable flaps at the front of the carrier. Each flap extends from the framework at the right side and at the left side. The flaps are joinable together at a zipper, allowing the flaps to close the open front. In embodiments, the golf clubs may still be removed from the golf carrier with the front flaps closed by grabbing a golf club head and raising the golf club in a traditional manner.
[0007] A lower golf club organizing portion may be positioned at a lower end of the rigid support frame. The lower club organizing portion may be unitary with the base or may be assembled thereon. In embodiments, the lower club organizing portion receives handles of the clubs retained in the arcuate shaped club organizer at the top of the golf club carrier. In embodiments, the handle may be received in the cup or recess without bottoming out, being constrained by the sidewalls of the cup or receptacle and with the golf club heads seating on the upper frame portion.
[0008] The golf club earner may also include a plurality of golf club receptacles rearward of the arcuate row of forward and upwardly open golf club slots. The receptacles are defined by a plurality of circular openings in the top club organizing member. In embodiments, the receptacles are further defined by a plurality of tubes that extend from the top club organizing member to the bottom of the carrier. These receptacles may receive clubs in a traditional manner, that is, insertion from above, handles first. Withdrawal by grasping the club head and raising the club handle out of the receptacle.
[0009] In embodiments, a golf club carrier with an open front access to upright slots for holding golf clubs includes a golf club receptacle that constrains a shaft of the golf club by a club latch comprising pair of cooperating pivoting latch members that are urged into a closed retention position by magnetic force. A golfer may open the latch members by urging the shaft of the club outwardly against the latch members whereby the magnetic retention force may be overcome and the latches close.

A lower club organizer may be positioned between the base and the uppermost club organizer, having a plurality of slots aligned with the golf club slots of the uppermost club organizer.
[0013] In embodiments, a golf club carrier comprises a polymer framework defining an open forward golf club storage region and an exterior fabric covering supported by and extending over the polymer framework. The carrier includes a plurality of arcuately arranged golf club slots defined by the polymer framework in the open forward golf club storage region. Each of the plurality of slots is open to a front of the carrier such that a golf club in each of the slots is removable by a horizontal motion away from the framework in a forward direction. The exterior soft covering, fabric or other pliable flexible sheet material is openable at the front to expose the open forward golf club storage region.

A feature and advantage of embodiments is that means are provided for adjusting the positioning and / or configuration of the seating surfaces of the golf club carrier to accommodate different club lengths. Such secure seating overcomes disadvantages of golf club carriers that provide some open horizontal access to golf clubs but require manual deflection of spring clamping members that grasp the handles of the golf clubs. See for example, U.S. Pat. No.10,159,877, incorporated herein by reference for all purposes.
[0017] A feature and advantage of embodiments, is a framework of a golf club carrier that has arcuate rigid panels with an upright or vertical axis in a use position, where the curved panels define a forward golf club an interior retention region for primary horizontal withdrawal of golf clubs and further define, with a exterior covering, a rearward interior retention region for receiving golf clubs, said golf clubs having a conventional upward withdrawal. In embodiments, the exterior covering can further comprise removable and / or openable and closeable forward covering panels for closing or adjustably closing an open front that facilitates the primarily horizontal withdrawal and replacement of a subset of a golf club set in the golf club carrier.
[0018] A feature and advantage of embodiments is that the inventors have recognized that commonly use golf clubs such as wedges and irons, that are often challenging to identify in a conventional golf bag with topside club access, and challenging or tedious to return to their designated pockets and have provided a readily accessible presentation of a subset of commonly used clubs on a golf cart that reduces or minimizes the searching for a particular club in a bag and the delays associated with returning a club to a particular location. The presentation includes visualization front the front of the golf club carrier, which is the rearward side of the golf cart on which the golf earner is mounted, of at least 80% of the entire lengths of the subset of the commonly used golf clubs. The presentation provides easy identification, based on the location of the desired club and in that the top face of each of the club head as seated is tilted toward the golfer at the club retrieval location forward of the golf club carrier thereby providing easy visual identification of the various forwardly positioned golf clubs.

The golf club carrier incorporates a novel structure that combines a durable internal framework with a flexible exterior covering. This combination allows for a robust yet lightweight design that offers enhanced protection and ease of use for golfers.

[0067] Referring to FIGS. 2A-4, embodiments of golf club carriers 40 are illustrated with alternate exterior covering configurations. The golf club carrier 40, generally has an open top 42, a rear side 43, a left side 44, a right side 45, and an open or openable front 46 for accessing golf clubs 48 retained therein. Exposed on the exterior of the golf club carrier is a covering 52 which may be a fabric, polymer material, or leather or other flexible sheet material. FIG. 2 depicts a covering with a separate removable front 52 with a hood. FIG. 2D has an openable front 53 with flaps 54 and a closure such as a zipper 55. The flaps 54, when opened as depicted in FIG. 2E, allow horizontal access to an open golf club storage region 56. A carrying strap 57 may be attached at the rear side 43 of the carrier as shown in FIG. 2B. FIGS. 3 A and 3B illustrate a carrier 40 with the front cover 52 adjustably openable, for example utilizing side zippers 55. FIG. 4 depicts the wrap around covering 60 with pockets 62 that may have internal portions 63 that fit into framework recesses 65 as described below. The covering may be attached by conventional means such as rivets.
[0068] Referring generally to FIGS . 4 to 5B , the golf club carrier may include a framework 70 including polymer members that forms the structural backbone of the carrier and has the fabric or other material covering 60 integrated therewith. In some cases, the framework 70 may extend from lower frame portion 71 with a lower club organizer 74 with a base 80 at the bottom to a top frame portion 83 with a top arcuate club organizer 72 near the upper portion of the carrier, as shown in FIGS. 5-6.

In some cases, the base 80 may include mounting points for attaching additional components of the framework 70.

In some cases, the forward elongate frame member 76, or a plurality of members, may have a C-shape when viewed from above, with the opening of the C-shape oriented in a forward direction. In embodiments, the C-shape may be a V-shape. In embodiments, metal members may replace the polymer members.

In some cases, the rear elongate frame member 78 may also have a C-shape when viewed from above. The windows may provide open areas for pockets that are part of or accessible through the fabric covering 56.

This access frame may outline an opening 81.2 to the forward golf club storage region 56 within the carrier 40.
[0073] In some cases, the framework 70 may include a strap pathway, which may be configured as tunnel 138, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 8, the strap tunnel 138 may extend through the body of the carrier, allowing conventional golf cart straps to be utilized to secure the golf club carrier to a golf cart. Tunnel access openings 139 may be provided in the fabric covering 52. See FIG. 1. Additionally, the framework 70 may include a strap mount on the rear side with three locations 144, 146, 148 for attaching carrying strap 57 and / or handles. The uppermost location 144 may utilize the upper club organizer molding for secure attachment of a D-ring or other connector hardware. The mid-level location 146 may utilize a fixture 149 associated with the tunnel components 82, 84 for providing a reinforced connection, with the rear elongate frame member 78, in embodiments. The lowermost location 148 may utilize structure of the lower organizer 74, such as fitting 151, in association with the rear elongate frame member 78, in embodiments. Additionally, a collapsible stand, not shown, may be attached at the rear side 43 of the golf club canier 40.
[0074] Referring to FIGS. 8A-8D depict carrying, lifting assist, and club retention meansAttorney Docket No.: 4393.0023WO1and comprise a removable club head retainer 152 with a horizontally extending handle 153, and an attached, not intended to be removed, back side handle 154. The removable club head retainer has a C-shaped, when viewed from above, portion 155 with projections 156 defining slots 157 for receiving club head or hosels of the golf clubs seated on the upper club organizer portion of the upper frame portion 83 of the framework, and further has a forward attachment arm 160 that may be securely attached by, for example, a quarter turn screw 163. The club head retainer 152 and handle 153 have a pair of capture members 157, 158 on each lateral side to grasp and be secured onto the top side and bottom side of the C-shaped portion 155 of the top arcuate club organizer 72 when the attachment arm is secured to the framework 70. This provides a secure robust attachment of the club head retainer 152 and handle 153 allowing the golf club carrier to be lifted and carried by way of the handle 153. The C-shaped portion 155 and the handle 153 / that spans same provide a D-shape when viewed from above.
[0075] The back side handle 154 may be attached to the upper frame portion 83 of the framework 70 with fasteners such as screws or rivets or may be an unitary or integrated component with the framework, such as unitarily molded. As depicted, a U-shaped portion 159 follows the upper frame portion periphery 160 on the backside and the two lateral sides with the grasping portion 162 attached to the U-shaped portion. With the retainer in place, the golf club carrier may be readily lifted for placement on a golf cart, or in storage, or in a vehicle.
[0076] The combination of these structural elements may create a robust yet lightweight framework 70 that provides organization and protection for golf clubs while maintaining ease of access and transportability.

The top arcuate club organizer 72, as shown in FIGS. 17-18 and FIGS.1 -20, may be designed to accommodate various types of golf clubs in an organized manner.

These slots may be open in a forward direction and open upwardly, allowing for easy insertion and removal of clubs. The arcuate arrangement of the slots may follow a C-shape when viewed from above, with the opening of the C-shape oriented forwardly. [0079] The top arcuate club organizer 72 may include vertical slots 73, as illustrated in FIGS. 17-18. Each of the vertical slots 73 may correspond to one of the arcuately arranged golf club slots. The vertical slots 73 may be designed to accommodate golf club shafts, providing a secure fit for different club types.
[0080] Referring to FIG. 9, in some cases, the top arcuate club organizer 72 may provide a forward golf club head receiving region 74 rearward of each vertical slot 73. Each golf club head receiving region may have an upwardly facing surface and be V-shaped, which may help to support and retain the club heads and clubs in their respective slots. A golf club carrier for attachment to a motorized golf cart, the golf cart having a rear well and a pair of straps for receiving a pair of golf bags, the golf club carrier having a front side, a back side, a left side, a right side, an open top, and a bottom, the golf club carrier comprising:a rigid framework extending from a lowermost portion of the carrier to an uppermost portion of the carrier, the framework including a lower base portion configured to be received in the rear well of the golf cart, and an upper frame portion configured for receiving a plurality of golf clubs and for engaging the respective heads of each of the plurality of golf clubs. an exterior covering attached to the framework and extending about the framework and covering the left side, the back side, and the right side;wherein the framework and covering defining an interior of the golf club carrier, said interior receiving shafts and handles of golf clubs, and wherein when there is a golf set in the golf club carrier, at least a subset of the golf club set is are removable by a user standing at the front side of the golf club carrier.
2. The golf club carrier of claim 1 wherein the upper frame portion is, when viewed from above when mounted on the golf cart, has a crescent shape and defines a plurality of receiving regions arranged in a C-shape when viewed from above, and wherein the concave side of the crescent shaped upper frame portion faces forwardly at an opening of the front side of the golf club carrier.
3. The golf club carrier of claim 2, wherein a concave portion of the crescent shaped upper frame portion faces in a forward direction and includes at least six receiving regions with each of the six receiving regions defined by a respective slot open forwardly, the at least six receiving regions receiving the subset of the golf club set.
4. The golf club carrier of claim 3, wherein each of the respective slots is sized to restrict forward rearward passage of a hosel of a golf club inserted therein but is sized to allow forward rearward passage of a shaft of the golf club.
5. The golf club carrier of claim 3 or 4, wherein each of the at least six receiving regions have an upwardly facing recessed seat for receiving a surface of a club head whenAttorney Docket No.: 4393.0023WO1received therein.
6. The golf club carrier of claim 2, wherein the plurality of receiving regions in the crescent shaped upper frame portion includes a plurality of forward opening slots positioned along a concave portion of the crescent shaped upper frame portion and at least one aperture open upwardly and positioned rearwardly on the crescent shaped upper frame portion for receiving one or more golf clubs by insertion of the handle of each of the one or more golf club into the at least one aperture.
7. The golf club carrier of claim 6, wherein the at least one aperture open upwardly comprises at least 5 apertures open upwardly.
8. The golf club carrier of claim 1 wherein the front side of the golf club carrier is open to an exterior of the golf club carrier with a plurality of individual golf club receiving regions extending from the upper frame portion to the lower base portion are visually exposed for substantially their entire length from the front side of the golf club carrier, whereby a golf club may be removed from a seated position in the carrier and re -inserted without raising the golf club more than 6 inches upwardly.
9. The golf club carrier of claim 1 wherein the front side of the golf club carrier is open to an exterior of the golf club carrier with a plurality of individual golf club receiving regions extending from the upper frame portion to the lower base portion are visually exposed for at least 80% of their entire length from the front side of the golf club carrier.
10. The golf club carrier of claim 1 wherein the interior of the golf club carrier that receives shafts and handle of golf clubs held by the golf club earner comprises a forward interior contiguous to an opening extending over most of the front side of the golf club carrier for removal and insertion of golf clubs through the open portion at the front side and further comprises a rearward interior open upwardly whereby golf clubs therein may be removed by lifting upwardly at least three feet.
11. The golf club carrier of claim 1 , a plurality of individual golf club receiving regions below the upper frame portion are visually exposed for substantially their entire length from the front side of the golf club carrier, whereby a golf club may be removed from a seating position in the carrier and re-inserted without raising the golf club more than 6 inches upwardly.
12. The golf club carrier of claim 1, wherein at least six of the set of golf clubs are removable and replaceable through the open front and a plurality of the remaining golf clubs are removable and replaceable by upward lifting and downward insertion respectively into aAttorney Docket No.: 4393.0023WO1plurality of apertures positioned rearwardly and open upwardly.
13. The golf club earner of any one of claims 2, 8, 9, 11, or 12, wherein a putter golf club is removable and re-insertably through the open front and is held in a receiving slot by a pair of arms that have an open position and a capture position,14. The golf club carrier of claim 13, wherein the pair of arms may be moved to the open position by removing the golf club from the receiving slot15. The golf club carrier of any one of claims 2, 8, 9, 11, or 12, wherein a golf cart attachment strap pathway extends through the interior of the carrier from an opening on the left side and an opening on the right side of the framework whereby when the golf club carrier is mounted on a golf cart, the strap does not impede horizontal removal of clubs from the golf club carrier.
16. The golf club carrier of any one of claims 2, 3, 4, or 6, further comprising a golf club head retainer that is securable to the crescent shaped upper frame portion to secure the heads of a plurality of golf clubs in the carrier.
17. The golf club carrier of claim 16, wherein the golf club retainer captures the heads of the plurality of golf clubs in the carrier.
18. The golf club carrier of claim 16, wherein the golf club retainer further comprises a handle extending horizontally across the open front of the carrier.
19. The golf club carrier of claim 1, comprising a front cover that is removable revealing substantially the entire lengths of a plurality of clubs therein.
20. The golf club carrier of claim 19, wherein each of the plurality of clubs has a head seated on the upper frame portion and a handle seated in a recess on a lower frame portion.
21. A golf club carrier comprising a polymer framework and an exterior fabric covering supported by and extending over the polymer framework, the golf club carrier having a top, a front side, a rear side, a left side, a right side, a bottom, and a height, the internal polymer framework comprising a lowermost base and an uppermost club organizer, the exterior fabric covering extending from the lowermost base of the polymer framework to the uppermost club organizer and extending around the rear side, the left side, the right side, and the front side, the covering openable at the front side to expose and allow access to an open forward golf club storage region defined by the polymer framework, the polymer framework further defining a plurality of arcuately arranged golf club slots for retaining a plurality of golf clubs in theAttorney Docket No.: 4393.0023WO1carrier in the open forward golf club storage region, each of the plurality of slots open to the front wherein a golf club in each of the slots is removable primarily by a horizontal motion away from the framework in a forward direction.
22. The golf club carrier of claim 21, whereby when the covering is fully open at the front side, a front side access opening extends from the base to the top at a top opening such that an access opening to the forward golf club storage region has an inverted L-shape.
23. The golf club carrier of claim 21 or 22, wherein the uppermost club organizer at least partially defines the plurality of arcuately arranged golf club slots with the uppermost club organizer defining a vertical slot at each of the arcuately arranged golf club slots.
24. The golf club carrier of claim 21, 22, or 23, wherein the uppermost club organizer further provides a forward golf club head receiving region rearward of each vertical slot, each golf club head receiving region having an upwardly facing surface.
25. The golf club carrier of claim 21, further comprising a plurality of rear positioned top opening golf club receptacles rearward of the arcuately arranged golf club slots.
26. The golf club carrier of claim 25, wherein the uppermost club organizer has a plurality of circular rearward top openings defining the rear positioned top opening golf club receptacles.
27. The golf club carrier of claim 21, wherein the uppermost club organizer has an arcuate portion defining a plurality of slots open in a forward direction and open upwardly, the arcuate portion having a C-shape when viewed from above, the C-shape opening oriented forwardly.

The golf club earner of claim 21 , wherein the polymer framework has a forward elongate frame portion extending from the base to the uppermost club organizer, the forward elongate frame portion having a C-shape when viewed from above, the forward elongate portion defining a backstop at each of the plurality of golf club slots.29 The golf club carrier of claim 28, wherein the forward elongate frame portion having a partial cylindrical shape.

A golf club earner comprising:a polymer framework including a base, an uppermost club organizer, and a forward elongate frame portion extending between the base and the uppermost club organizer;an exterior fabric covering supported by and extending over the polymer framework;wherein the uppermost club organizer defines a plurality of arcuately arranged golf club slots open in a forward direction;wherein the forward elongate frame portion has a C-shape when viewed from above and defines a backstop for each of the plurality of golf club slots; andwherein the exterior fabric covering is openable at a front side to allow access to the golf club slots.
35. The golf club carrier of claim 34, wherein the polymer framework further comprises a rearward elongate frame portion extending from the base to the uppermost club organizer.
36. The golf club carrier of claim 34 or 35, further comprising a lower club organizer positioned between the base and the uppermost club organizer, the lower club organizer having a plurality of slots aligned with the golf club slots of the uppermost club organizer.

A golf club carrier comprising:a polymer framework defining an open forward golf club storage region; an exterior fabric covering supported by and extending over the polymer framework;a plurality of arcuately arranged golf club slots defined by the polymerAttorney Docket No.: 4393.0023WO1framework in the open forward golf club storage region;wherein each of the plurality of slots is open to a front of the earner such that a golf club in each of the slots is removable by a horizontal motion away from the framework in a forward direction; andwherein the exterior fabric covering is openable at the front to expose the open forward golf club storage region.
38. The golf club carrier of claim 37, wherein the polymer framework comprises an uppermost club organizer defining the plurality of arcuately arranged golf club slots.
39. The golf club carrier of claim 37 or 38, wherein the polymer framework further comprises a forward elongate frame portion having a C-shape when viewed from above, the forward elongate portion defining a backstop at each of the plurality of golf club slots.
40. The golf club carrier of any of claims 37-39, further comprising a plurality of rear positioned top opening golf club receptacles rearward of the arcuately arranged golf club slots.
