Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to terminal devices, network devices, methods, apparatuses and medium for port configuration for network energy saving with aggregated channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources. In an aspect, a terminal device receives, from a network device, an indication indicating a port mapping method for mapping channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) ports of two or more CSI-RS resources to codebook port indices associated to a total number of the CSI-RS ports. The total number of the CSI-RS ports is obtained by aggregating the CSI-RS ports across the two or more CSI-RS resources. The terminal device receives, from the network device, a bitmap indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from the total number of CSI-RS ports. The terminal device determines channel state information (CSI) based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled. The terminal device transmits, to the network device, the CSI in a CSI report, based on a CSI report configuration received from the network device.

[0037] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a subscriber station (SS) , a portable subscriber station, a mobile station (MS) , or an access terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of things (loT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial, a relay node, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0038] As used herein, the term “resource” , “transmission resource” , “resource block” , “physical resource block” (PRB) , “uplink (UL) resource” or “downlink (DL) resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, for example, a communication between a terminal device and a network device, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, a resource in a combination of more than one domain or any other resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, a resource in time domain (such as, a subframe) will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0039] In a communication technology, the third generation partnership project (3GPP) agreed to extend channel state information (CSI) reporting to support larger transmit antenna array sizes with 48, 64 and 128 antenna ports, by aggregating 2, 3 or 4 CSI-RS resources of up to 32 antenna ports each. A refined Type-I Single Panel (SP) codebook has been defined for a total number of antenna ports larger than 32. This typeI-SinglePanel-rel19 codebook differs significantly from the Rel-15 typeI-SinglePanel codebook, has separate UE capabilities and is configured by a separate set of higher layer parameters.

[0040] 3GPP also agreed to extend support of Type-1 network energy saving (NES) feature to CSI reporting with Type-I Single Panel codebooks for 48, 64 and 128 ports, by extending a length of the higher layer bitmap parameter portSubsetIndicator-r19 to 48, 64 and 128 bits. In Type-1 NES, a UE may be configured with a CSI-ReportConfig that contains a list of sub-configurations, and each sub-configuration can be configured with a higher layer bitmap parameter indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports for the calculation of the CSI quantities corresponding to the sub-configuration. It is up to the network to configure this port subset indicator bitmap correctly such that, the codebook configuration is applicable to the indicated port subset of the sub-configuration.

[0041] For the UE supporting more than 32 ports for Type-I SP CSI reporting, a total number of ports, PCSI-RS, measured for CSI calculation is obtained by aggregating 2≤K≤4 CSI-RS resources each with a same number of ports and configured in the same CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement. The configurable combinations of the number of resources and the number of ports per resource are restricted as follows. If K=2 CSI-RS resources are configured, each resource shall contain 24 or 32 CSI-RS ports. If K=3 CSI-RS resources are configured, each resource shall contain 16 CSI-RS ports. If K=4 CSI-RS resources are configured, each resource shall contain 16 or 32 CSI-RS ports. Therefore, only the following combinations of K and PCSI-RS are supported: - For PCSI-RS = 48, K = 2 (each resource 24 ports) and 3 (each resource 16 ports) ; - For PCSI-RS = 64, K = 2 (each resource 32 ports) and 4 (each resource 16 ports) ; - For PCSI-RS = 128, K = 4 (each resource 32 ports) .

[0042] If the Type-1 NES is used in combination with the Rel-19 Type-I SP codebook, and a sub-configuration is configured with a higher layer bitmap parameter portSubsetIndicator-r19 selecting a subset of the CSI-RS ports, there will be only 6 possible supported combinations of KNES≤K and PNES<PCSI-RS, wherein KNES corresponds to a number of CSI-RS resources with nonzero bits in the bitmap portSubsetIndicator-r19 and PNES corresponds to a number of bits with value 1 in the bitmap portSubsetIndicator-r19, namely: - From PCSI-RS = 64, K = 2 (each resource 32 ports) to PNES = 48, KNES = 2 (each  resource 24 ports) - From PCSI-RS = 64, K = 4 (each resource 16 ports) to PNES = 48, KNES = 3 (each  resource 16 ports) - From PCSI-RS = 128, K = 4 (each resource 32 ports) to PNES = 64, KNES = 2 (each  resource 32 ports) - From PCSI-RS = 128, K = 4 (each resource 32 ports) to PNES = 64, KNES = 4 (each  resource 16 ports) - From PCSI-RS = 128, K = 4 (each resource 32 ports) to PNES = 48, KNES = 2 (each  resource 24 ports) - From PCSI-RS = 128, K = 4 (each resource 32 ports) to PNES = 48, KNES = 3 (each  resource 16 ports)

[0043] Because of being restricted to few combinations of the number of CSI-RS resources and the total number of ports >32, the resource aggregation cannot be supported for a total number of ports ≤32 and for unequal numbers of ports per resource. For example, the Type-1 NES cannot be configurable for PCSI-RS=48 ports. If a sub-configuration is configured with PNES≤32, only the legacy Rel-15 Type-I SP codebook could be configured for this sub-configuration. However, the Rel-19 Type-I SP codebook can only be configured for a sub-configuration with >32 ports. Therefore, the inventors of the present disclosure recognized there are restrictions that the Rel-19 Type-I SP codebook can only be applied to the above supported combinations of a number of resources and a total number of ports, which requires the same number of ports per resource and a total number of ports being >32. How to avoid these restrictions and improve the port configuration for the NES with aggregated CSI-RS resources needs to be discussed.

[0044] Therefore, some example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for port configuration for network energy saving with aggregated channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources. According to these embodiments of the present disclosure, a terminal device (e.g., a UE) receives, from a network device (e.g., a gNB or a TRP) , an indication indicating a port mapping method for mapping channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) ports of two or more CSI-RS resources to codebook port indices associated to a total number of the CSI-RS ports. The total number of the CSI-RS ports is obtained by aggregating the CSI-RS ports across the two or more CSI-RS resources. The terminal device also receives, from the network device, a bitmap indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from the total number of CSI-RS ports. The terminal device determines channel state information (CSI) based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled. The terminal device transmits, to the network device, the CSI in a CSI report, based on a CSI report configuration received from the network device.

[0045] It is understood that the above procedure steps may work together, in a flow of operations as described below, partly together or independently of each other. By implementing these embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal device (e.g., a UE) could be configured with an indication of a port mapping method for aggregated CSI-RS resources and a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from a total number of CSI-RS ports obtained by aggregating the CSI-RS ports across the two or more CSI-RS resources. The terminal is able to perform CSI-RS measurements and reporting based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled. This allows for configuring sub-configurations with any number of ports, including ≤32 ports, unequal selected number of ports per resource, flexible combinations of a number of resources and a total number of ports, thereby avoiding the above restrictions for CSI-RS resource aggregation and improving the port configuration for the NES with aggregated CSI-RS resources.

[0046] For illustrative purposes, principles and example embodiments of the present disclosure of port configuration for network energy saving with aggregated channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources will be described below with reference to FIG. 1 through FIG. 7. However, it is to be noted that these embodiments are given to enable the skilled in the art to understand inventive concepts of the present disclosure and implement the solution as proposed herein, and not intended to limit scope of the present application in any way.

[0047] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of an application scenario 100 in which some example embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. The communication system 100, which may be a part of a communication network, includes a terminal device 102-1, a terminal device 102-2 and a network device 104. The terminal device 102-1 and 102-2 may be called as the terminal device 102 collectively.

[0048] As illustrated in FIG. 1, the terminal device 102 may also be referred to as a user equipment 102 or a UE 102. The network device 104 may also be referred to as a gNB 104. The network device 104 can provide services to the terminal device 102, and the network device 104 and the terminal device 102 may communicate data and control information with each other. In some embodiments, the network device 104 and the terminal device 102 may communicate with direct links / channels.

[0049] In the communication system 100, a link from the network device 104 to the terminal device 102 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 102 to the network device 104 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In downlink, the network device 104 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 102 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In uplink, the terminal device 102 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the network device 104 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0050] The communications in the communication system 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) and the like. Furthermore, the communications may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) , 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, the sixth generation (6G) , or IEEE 802.11 communication protocols.

[0051] In FIG. 1, the terminal device 102 may receive CSI-RSs from the network device 104 and perform CSI measurements on CSI-RS antenna ports. The terminal device 102 and the network device 104 can communicate CSI-RSs via aggregated CSI-RS resources. The network device 104 can aggregate two or more CSI-RS resource and allocate aggregated CSI-RS resources to the terminal device 102. Each CSI-RS resource may correspond to a plurality of CSI-RS antenna ports (e.g., 16, 24 or 32 antenna ports) . As illustrated in FIG. 1, the network device 104 aggregates two CSI-RS resources and allocates the aggregated two CSI-RS resources to the terminal device 102-1. The network device 104 aggregates three CSI-RS resources and allocates the aggregated three CSI-RS resources to the terminal device 102-1.

[0052] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connection relationships and types shown in FIG. 1 are for illustrative purposes only without suggesting any limitation. The communication system 100 may comprise any suitable number of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0053] FIG. 2 illustrates an example signaling process 200 for port configuration for network energy saving with aggregated CSI-RS resources between a terminal device 202 and a network device 204 according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. The terminal device 202 may refer to the terminal device 102 in FIG. 1, and the network device 204 may refer to the network device 104 in FIG. 1.

[0054] At 210, the terminal device 202 may receive, from the network device 204, an indication indicating a port mapping method for mapping channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) ports of two or more CSI-RS resources to codebook port indices associated to a total number of the CSI-RS ports. The total number of the CSI-RS ports may be obtained by aggregating the CSI-RS ports across the two or more CSI-RS resources. At 220, the terminal device 202 may receive, from the network device 204, a bitmap indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from the total number of CSI-RS ports. In some example embodiments, each of the subset of enabled CSI-RS ports may be represented by a pair of CSI-RS antenna port index and a CSI-RS resource index. At 230, the terminal device 202 may determine channel state information (CSI) based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled. In some example embodiments, the CSI may comprise at least one of a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , a rank indicator (RI) and a channel quality indicator (CQI) . At 240, the terminal device 202 may transmit, to the network device 204, the CSI in a CSI report, based on a CSI report configuration received from the network device 204. It is noted that the execution order of 210 and 220 are not limited as described above, 210 and 220 may be performed simultaneously or 220 may be performed before 210.

[0055] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 may receive, from the network device 204, the CSI report configuration comprising one or more sub-configurations. Each of the one or more sub-configurations may comprise a bitmap indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from the total number of CSI-RS ports.

[0056] In some example embodiments, the indication of the port mapping method and the bitmap may be carried by higher layer signaling. For example, the bitmap may be carried by a portSubsetIndicator-r19 information element (IE) configured per sub-configuration. The indication indicating the port mapping method may be carried by a portMappingMethod information element configured for the CSI report or for one or more sub-configurations.

[0057] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 may determine mapping relationships between the CSI-RS ports of the two or more CSI-RS resources and the codebook port indices based on the indicated port mapping method. The terminal device 202 may determine the CSI based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and the mapping relationships.

[0058] In some example embodiments, the indicated port mapping method may be a horizontal mapping method in which the two or more CSI-RS resources are aggregated horizontally such that each CSI-RS port of a first CSI-RS resource is mapped to a codebook port index with a lower index value than any CSI-RS port of a second CSI-RS resource, and wherein the two or more CSI-RS resources are ordered in an increasing order of configuration index. Alternatively or additionally, the indicated port mapping method may be a vertical mapping method in which the two or more CSI-RS resources are aggregated vertically such that at least one CSI-RS port of a first CSI-RS resource is mapped to a codebook port index with a higher index value than at least one CSI-RS port of a second CSI-RS resource, and wherein the two or more CSI-RS resources are ordered in an increasing order of configuration index.

[0059] In some example embodiments, the bitmap indicating the subset of enabled CSI-RS ports may be formed by a plurality of bits equal to the total number of CSI-RS ports, and correspondence between the plurality of bits of the bitmap and the CSI-RS ports may depend on the indicated port mapping method such that a p’ -th bit of the bitmap corresponds to a p-th CSI-RS port of a k-th CSI-RS resource that is mapped to a codebook port index p’ , after CSI-RS resource aggregation, according to the indicated port mapping method. In some example embodiments, a bit value of zero of the bitmap indicates a corresponding CSI-RS port is disabled and a bit value of one of the bitmap indicates a corresponding CSI-RS port is enabled. FIG. 3A illustrates an example bitmap 300A indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated by FIG. 3A, b0, b2, b16, b18, b32, b34, b48, b50 are of bit value 1, indicating corresponding CSI-RS ports are enabled, while other bits are of bit value 0, indicating corresponding CSI-RS ports are disabled.

[0060] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 may map the CSI-RS ports to the codebook port indices based on the port mapping method, a number of codebook ports in a horizontal dimension, a number of codebook ports in a vertical dimension, and a number of the two or more CSI-RS resources aggregated. For example, the terminal device 202 may transform a CSI-RS port index p within a CSI-RS resource k into intermediate indices ι1, ι2, q based on an equation of p=n1n2q+n2ι1+ι2, wherein ι1=0, 1 , …, n1-1, ι2=0, 1, …, n2-1 , and q= 0 or 1, and wherein (n1, n2) are defined such that (N1, N2) =(Kn1, n2) in case that the port mapping method is a horizontal mapping method, or (N1, N2) = (n1, Kn2) in case that the port mapping method is a vertical mapping method, N1 represents the number of codebook ports in the horizontal dimension, N2 represents the number of codebook ports in the vertical dimension, and K represents the number of the two or more CSI-RS resources aggregated. The terminal device 202 may map the intermediate indices ι1, ι2, q to the codebook port indices p′based on ι2 in case that the port mapping method is the horizontal mapping method, or in case that the port mapping method is the vertical mapping method, wherein k represents a CSI-RS resource index and k∈ {0, 1, …, K-1} .

[0061] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 may be configured with a CSI-ReportConfig IE with a codebookType IE set to “typeI-SinglePanel” , “typeI-SinglePanel-r19” , “typeI-MultiPanel” or “typeI-MultiPanel-r19” . The CSI-ReportConfig IE may contain a list of sub-configurations, which are provided by a csi-ReportSubConfigToAddModList IE. Each sub-configuration may be configured with an enabled antenna port subset using a higher layer bitmap parameter portSubsetIndicator or portSubsetIndicator-r19, which contains a bit sequence b0, b1, …, bP-1, wherein b0 is the most significant bit (MSB) and bP-1 is the least significant bit (LSB) , bit bp′corresponds to the codebook port p′=0, 1, …, P-1, after CSI-RS resource aggregation, in order of increasing codebook port index, wherein codebook port p′ corresponds to antenna port 3000+p, with index p∈ {0, 1, …, Pm-1} , of CSI-RS resource k∈ {0, 1, …, K-1} , according to a mapping method configured by higher layer parameter portMappingMethod, wherein K is the number of CSI-RS resources configured for channel measurement, Pm=P / K is the number of ports per resource which may be configured by a higher layer parameter nrofPorts, and P is the total number of ports. A bit value 0 in portSubsetIndicator-r19 indicates that a corresponding antenna port is disabled for the sub-configuration, whereas bit value 1 indicates that a corresponding antenna port is enabled and belongs to the enabled antenna port subset for the sub-configuration. For the derivation of PMI, codebook ports corresponding to all bits with value of 1 in portSubsetIndicator-r19 are mapped to consecutive codebook ports in increasing order of the bit position in portSubsetIndicator-r19.

[0062] The mapping between CSI-RS port (i.e. antenna port) indices and codebook port indices may depend on parameters N1, N2, K and a configured mapping method, where N1 and N2 are the numbers of codebook ports in a horizontal (Azimuth) and a vertical (elevation) dimensions for each polarization, respectively, and K is a number of aggregated resources. The terminal device 202 may be configured with higher layer parameter codebookType set to “typeI-SinglePanel-r19” for 48, 64 and 128 or more antenna ports. The values of N1 and N2 may be configured with a higher layer parameter n1-n2-typeI-r19. The supported configurations of (N1, N2) , for a given number of CSI-RS ports, may be given in Table 1 as below. The total number of CSI-RS ports, PCSI-RS, is 2N1N2. [0064] The port mapping method between the antenna port 3000+p, with index p=0, 1, …, Pm-1, of CSI-RS resource k=0, 1, …, K-1, and the codebook port index, p′=0, 1, …, P-1, obtained by aggregating K CSI-RS resources, is configured with the higher layer parameter portMappingMethod. The port mapping operation may comprise two steps. First, the antenna port index p within a CSI-RS resource k is transformed into intermediate indices ι1, ι2, q. Second, the intermediate indices are mapped to the codebook port index p′following an order ι2→ι1→k→q, for horizontal resource aggregation (i.e., “Method 1” ) , or an order ι2→k→ι1→q for vertical resource aggregation (i.e., “Method 2” ) . Specifically, let the port index p within a CSI-RS resource k correspond to the intermediate indices (ι1, ι2, q) , such that p=n1n2q+n2ι1+ι2, wherein ι1=0, 1, …, n1-1, ι2=0, 1, …n2-1, q=0 or 1, and (n1, n2) are defined such that (N1, N2) = (Kn1, n2) if portMappingMethod is set to “Method 1” , or (N1, N2) = (n1, Kn2) if portMappingMethod is set to “Method 2” . The codebook port index, p′, may be obtained from indices (ι1, ι2, q, k) as follows: - If portMappingMethod is set to “Method 1” , - If portMappingMethod is set to “Method 2” ,

[0065] In some example embodiments, the CSI determined based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled may be used to calculate a channel quality indicator (CQI) .

[0066] In some example embodiments, the sub-configuration may indicate an enabled CSI-RS antenna port subset using the higher layer bitmap parameter portSubsetIndicator-r19 for CQI calculation. Codebook port indices,  corresponding to all bits with value of 1 in portSubsetIndicator-r19 in increasing order of the bit position in portSubsetIndicator-r19 are mapped to antenna ports with index p (p′n) ∈ {0, 1, …, P / K-1} , of the respective CSI-RS resource with k (p′n) ∈ {0, 1, …, K-1} , for n=0, …, Ps-1, according to a port mapping method ( “Method 1” or “Method 2” ) configured by the higher layer parameter portMappingMethod, where Ps corresponds to the number of bits with value 1 in the bitmap portSubsetIndicator-r19, and P is the total number of ports obtained by aggregating K CSI-RS resources for channel measurement. For a terminal device 202 configured with codebookType set to “typeI-SinglePanel-r19” or “typeI-MultiPanel-r19” for CQI calculation, the terminal device 202 should assume that PDSCH signals on antenna ports in a set [1000, …, 1000+υ-1] for υ layers would result in signals equivalent to corresponding symbols transmitted on antenna ports of the respective CSI-RS resource  , as given by wherein x (i) = [x (0) (i) …x (υ-1) (i) ] T is a vector of PDSCH symbols from the layer  mapping, and W (i) is a precoding matrix corresponding to a reported PMI applicable to x (i) . The PDSCH signals for υ layers would have a same ratio of energy per resource element (EPRE) as CSI-RS EPRE for all K CSI-RS resources, equal to the powerControlOffset of the respective CSI-RS resource if the sub-configuration does not indicate a power offset.

[0067] For a terminal device 202 configured with codebookType set to “typeI-SinglePanel-r19” and with the higher layer parameter typeI-softScalingRank1-r19 for υ=1, and / or typeI-softScalingRank2-r19 for υ=2, a terminal device 202 may assume that the PDSCH signal for each layer mapped to a vector of group Gs (x1, x2) would have the same ratio of EPRE as CSI-RS EPRE for all K CSI-RS resources, not exceeding times the powerControlOffset (in linear scale) of the respective CSI-RS resource, where Gs (x1, x2) and are part of a possible codebook configuration to scale the power of PDSCH signals on certain spatial beams, and may be described in the refined Type I SP codebook.

[0068] By implementing these embodiments described with reference to FIG. 2, FIG. 3A to FIG. 3C, sub-configurations with any number of ports, including there is no need to define new resource aggregation rules for all possible combinations of number of resources and total number of ports, for unequal number of ports per resource, and for total number of ports ≤32 ports, unequal selected number of ports per resource, flexible combinations of a number of resources and a total number of ports can be configured, thereby avoiding restrictions for CSI-RS resource aggregation and improving the port configuration for the NES with aggregated CSI-RS resources. There is no need to define new resource aggregation rules for all possible combinations of number of resources and total number of ports, for unequal number of ports per resource, and for a total number of ports ≤32.

[0069] FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 400 implemented at a terminal device (for example, a terminal device 102 or 202) in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For ease of understanding, the method 400 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 202 with reference to FIG. 2.

[0070] At block 410, the terminal device 202 receives, from a network device, an indication indicating a port mapping method for mapping channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) ports of two or more CSI-RS resources to codebook port indices associated to a total number of the CSI-RS ports, wherein the total number of the CSI-RS ports is obtained by aggregating the CSI-RS ports across the two or more CSI-RS resources.

[0071] At block 420, the terminal device 202 receives, from the network device, a bitmap indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from the total number of CSI-RS ports.

[0072] At block 430, the terminal device 202 determines channel state information (CSI) based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled.

[0073] At block 440, the terminal device 202 transmits, to the network device, the CSI in a CSI report, based on a CSI report configuration received from the network device.

[0074] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 is caused to determine the CSI based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled by: determining mapping relationships between the CSI-RS ports of the two or more CSI-RS resources and the codebook port indices based on the indicated port mapping method; and determining the CSI based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and the mapping relationships.

[0075] In some example embodiments, the indicated port mapping method is one of: a horizontal mapping method in which the two or more CSI-RS resources are aggregated horizontally such that each CSI-RS port of a first CSI-RS resource is mapped to a codebook port index with a lower index value than any CSI-RS port of a second CSI-RS resource, and wherein the two or more CSI-RS resources are ordered in an increasing order of configuration index; or a vertical mapping method in which the two or more CSI-RS resources are aggregated vertically such that at least one CSI-RS port of a first CSI-RS resource is mapped to a codebook port index with a higher index value than at least one CSI-RS port of a second CSI-RS resource, and wherein the two or more CSI-RS resources are ordered in an increasing order of configuration index.

[0076] In some example embodiments, the bitmap indicating the subset of enabled CSI-RS ports is formed by a plurality of bits equal to the total number of CSI-RS ports, and correspondence between the plurality of bits of the bitmap and the CSI-RS ports depends on the indicated port mapping method such that a p’ -th bit of the bitmap corresponds to a p-th CSI-RS port of a k-th CSI-RS resource that is mapped to a codebook port index p’ , after CSI-RS resource aggregation, according to the indicated port mapping method.

[0077] In some example embodiments, a bit value of zero of the bitmap indicates a corresponding CSI-RS port is disabled and a bit value of one of the bitmap indicates a corresponding CSI-RS port is enabled.

[0078] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 is further caused to: map the CSI-RS ports to the codebook port indices based on the port mapping method, a number of codebook ports in a horizontal dimension, a number of codebook ports in a vertical dimension, and a number of the two or more CSI-RS resources aggregated.

[0079] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 is caused to map the CSI-RS ports to the codebook port indices by: transforming a CSI-RS port index p within a CSI-RS resource k into intermediate indices ι1, ι2, q based on an equation of p=n1n2q+n2ι1+ι2, wherein ι1=0, 1 , …, n1-1, ι2=0, 1, …, n2-1, and q= 0 or 1, and wherein (n1, n2) are defined such that (N1, N2) = (Kn1, n2) in case that the port mapping method is a horizontal mapping method, or (N1, N2) = (n1, Kn2) in case that the port mapping method is a vertical mapping method, N1 represents the number of codebook ports in the horizontal dimension, N2 represents the number of codebook ports in the vertical dimension, and K represents the number of the two or more CSI-RS resources aggregated; and mapping the intermediate indices ι1, ι2, q to the codebook port indices p′based on in case that the port mapping method is the horizontal mapping method, or in case that the port mapping method is the vertical mapping method, wherein k represents a CSI-RS resource index and k∈ {0, 1, …, K-1} .

[0080] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 is further caused to: receive, from the network device, the CSI report configuration comprising one or more sub-configurations, each of the one or more sub-configurations comprises a bitmap indicating a subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled and selected from the total number of CSI-RS ports.

[0081] In some example embodiments, the CSI determined based on the indicated subset of CSI-RS ports being enabled is used to calculate a channel quality indicator (CQI) .

[0082] In some example embodiments, the indication of the port mapping method and the bitmap are carried by higher layer signaling.

[0083] In some example embodiments, at least one of the following is satisfied: the bitmap is carried by a portSubsetIndicator-r19 information element configured per sub-configuration; or the indication indicating the port mapping method is carried by a portMappingMethod information element configured for the CSI report or for the one or more sub-configurations.
