Description

COMPOSITION, METHOD FOR PREPARING THE SAME AND USE OF THE SAMEFIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of cosmetics, in particular to a composition, a method for preparing the same, and use of the same for preparing cosmetics, particularly sunscreen cosmetics.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] With the increasing diversification of consumer demands for cosmetics and personal care products, the development of multifunctional products has been a research hotspot in the cosmetics industry. For example, for sunscreen cosmetics, they are expected by consumers to combine high efficacy, good SPF effect (for example, about SPF50 or 50+) , and a lightweight and water-breaking skin feel, and at the same time, to satisfy high requirements in terms of water resistance and sweat resistance.

[0003] However, it is a great challenge for the existing sunscreen cosmetics products to meet the above requirements simultaneously, especially in terms of SPF value and skin feel. Among the currently known sunscreen cosmetics products on the market, products with a lightweight and water-breaking skin feel generally have a low SPF value as tested using the required methods in China, while those with a higher SPF value tend to have a sticky skin feel.

[0004] For example, a conventional gel or emulsion as a single system is difficult to meet the multiple demands mentioned above simultaneously. A gel is lightweight and watery, but has a weak load capacity for oils and powder particles (e.g., organic UV filters and inorganic UV filters) , which is a very big challenge in terms of SPF values. An emulsion is a dispersion system consisting of two immiscible liquids, and faces a big challenge in terms of stability and texture. In a sunscreen formulation, it is often necessary to add a large amount of polar organic UV filters and inorganic UV filters, which have a great influence on the stability and use experience of the emulsion, so that a high SPF value is achieved. Therefore, it is always necessary for a conventional emulsion to add a large amount of emulsifiers and thickeners. Although the conventional emulsion can be made into a thermodynamically stable emulsion system, but it feels very sticky.

[0005] Therefore, it remains desirable to provide a composition that can be prepared to provide a cosmetic product, particularly a sunscreen cosmetic product. Said cosmetic product provides good stability, water resistance and a high SPF value, and also a lightweight and water-breaking skin feel at the same time.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0033] Compositions

[0034] In a first aspect, the present invention relates to a composition, which is in the form of an oil-in-water bigel and comprises:

[0035] (1) a (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylic acid / C10-C30 alkyl (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylate copolymer as an aqueous phase thickener;

[0039] The bigel is composed of two mutually immiscible phases, aqueous phase gel and oil phase gel. This unique structure enables the bigel to have the characteristics of both gel and emulsion. The inventors have found that as compared with a composition in other form that does not have the above composition and / or is not in the form of the oil-in-water bigel (e.g., a bigel and emulsion in the form of water-in-oil (W / O) ) , the bigel composition in the form of oil-in-water having the above composition can provide good stability, excellent SPF effect, and improved skin feel. It was also surprisingly found that the oil-in-water bigel system can undergo phase transition to a water-in-oil form as it is applied to the skin, thereby forming an oil film on surface of the skin, and thus exhibits enhanced water resistance.

[0040] In one or more embodiments, in the oil-in-water bigel, the aqueous phase gel comprises component (1) , i.e. a (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylic acid / C10-C30 alkyl (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylate copolymer as an aqueous phase thickener; and the oil phase gel comprises component (2) , i.e., an oil phase thickener, and component (3) , i.e., a polyglycerol emulsifier.

[0041] In one or more embodiments, the content of the (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylic acid / C10-C30 alkyl (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylate copolymer is 0.05 to 5.00%by mass, preferably 0.05 to 2.00%by mass, and more preferably 0.05 to 1.00%by mass, based on the total mass of the composition. For example, the content of the (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylic acid / C10-C30 alkyl (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylate copolymer may be 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, 0.35, 0.40, 0.45, 0.50, 0.55, 0.60, 0.65, 0.70, 0.75, 0.80, 0.85, 0.90, 0.95, 1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00, 5.00%by mass, or within a range defined by any two thereof, based on the total mass of the composition.

[0094] The composition according to the invention may be, for example, in the form of a cream or emulsion.

[0095] The composition according to the present invention may be applied to the skin in particular in the form of fine particles by means of a pressurizing device.

[0096] The composition according to the invention packaged in aerosol form typically contains a conventional propellant such as a hydrogen fluoride compound, dichlorodifluoromethane, difluoroethane, dimethyl ether, isobutane, n-butane, propane, or trichlorofluoromethane. They are preferably present in an amount ranging from 15%to 50%by mass based on the total mass of the composition.

[0097] Methods of preparation

[0098] In a second aspect, the present invention relates to a method for preparing the composition according to the first aspect, comprising the steps of:

[0099] i) mixing water, a (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylic acid / C10-C30 alkyl (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylate copolymer, and optionally a neutralizing agent to obtain an aqueous phase component;

[0101] iii) adding the oil phase component to the aqueous phase component and mixing to obtain the composition.

[0102] The inventors found that a composition in the form of an oil-in-water bigel can be prepared by the above method. The composition exhibits good stability and is compatible with both an organic UV filter and an inorganic UV filter, and shows a high SPF effect and provides refreshing and water-breaking skin feel at the same time. In contrast, if other methods are used (for example, adding the aqueous phase component to the oil phase component in step iii) ) , it is impossible to obtain a composition in the water-in-oil bigel form, thereby failing to achieve good stability, high SPF effect, and refreshing and water-breaking skin feel simultaneously.

[0103] The components comprised in the composition are as described above in the section relating to the composition of the first aspect of the present invention, which are not repeated here.

[0104] The mixing conditions in steps i) -iii) can be appropriately selected by those skilled in the art according to actual needs.

[0105] In one or more embodiments, in step i) , water, a (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylic acid / C10-C30 alkyl (C1-C2 alkyl) acrylate copolymer, and optionally a neutralizing agent are mixed well and heated to 40 to 90 ℃, for example, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 ℃, or within a range defined by any two thereof, to obtain the aqueous phase component.

[0106] In one or more embodiments, in step ii) , an oil phase thickener, a polyglycerol emulsifier, and also optionally a hydrophobic solvent, optionally an oil-soluble active substance and / or optionally a UV filter are homogenized at a temperature of 40-99 ℃, preferably 70-99 ℃ (e.g., 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 95, 99 ℃, or within a range defined by any two thereof) for 5 minutes to 1 hour, e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 minutes, or within a range defined by any two thereof, to obtain the oil phase component.

[0107] In one or more embodiments, in step iii) , the oil phase component is added to the aqueous phase component and homogenized for 5 minutes to 1 hour, for example, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 minutes or within a range defined by any two thereof. The homogenization rate may be 4000-9000 rpm, preferably 5000-8000 rpm, for example, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000 rpm, or within a range defined by any two thereof. In one or more embodiments, the method further comprises cooling down to a temperature of 20-60 ℃, particularly 30-40 ℃, after homogenization, to obtain the composition.

[0108] The invention also relates to a composition obtained by the method according to the second aspect of the invention. All of the above descriptions of the components of the composition according to the first aspect of the present invention applies here and will not be repeated here.

[0109] Use

[0110] In a third aspect, the present invention relates to use of the composition according to the first aspect or the composition prepared by the method according to the second aspect for preparing cosmetics, particularly sunscreen cosmetics.

[0111] The composition according to the invention is particularly suitable for cosmetics, particularly sunscreen cosmetics. When the composition according to the present invention is used for preparing a sunscreen cosmetic, it is possible to obtain a sunscreen cosmetic that combines good stability, good water resistance and sweat resistance, excellent SPF effect, and improved refreshing and water-breaking skin feel.

[0112] However, the use of the composition according to the present invention is not particularly limited. For example, the composition can be used for other applications where improved stability, water resistance, sweat resistance, skin feel, or SPF values are desired.

[0113] Examples

[0114] In order to make the objects, technical solutions and advantages of the present invention clearer, the present invention is further described in detail below in conjunction with examples. It should be understood that specific examples described here are only for illustrating the present invention and are not for limiting the present invention. Hereinafter, unless otherwise specified, the contents or concentrations mentioned are by mass.

[0115] I. Sources of Raw Materials

[0116] Sources of the raw materials involved in the examples are shown in Table 1 below.

[0117] Table 1: Sources of Raw Materials

[0118] II. Test methods

[0119] Characterization of emulsion types

[0120] Microscopy method and dye mixing experiments were used to determine the emulsion types of a composition to be tested, respectively, that is, to determine whether the composition belongs to an oil-in-water (O / W) or a water-in-oil (W / O) form. In the invention, whether the composition to be tested belongs to the O / W or W / O emulsion type was determined based on the composition of the dispersed phase (particles) or the continuous phase (matrix) . Specifically, the composition belongs to the O / W emulsion type if the oil phase acts as the dispersed phase (particles) ; otherwise, it belongs to the W / O emulsion type if the oil phase acts as the continuous phase (matrix) .

[0121] (1) Test by microscopy method: A sample of the composition to be tested was observed using a microscope (model LEICA DM2500 LED Optical microscope, purchased from Leica Microsystems Inc. ) under a normal field and a polarized light field, respectively, to determine the emulsion type. Specifically, since the oil phase generated a brightening phenomenon under the polarized light field, if the particles shined under the polarized light field in a microscope picture, the oil phase was a dispersed phase, i.e., the composition was determined to be in the O / W emulsion type; if the particles appeared black under the polarized light field in the microscope picture (showing no polarized light phenomenon) , the oil phase was the continuous phase, i.e., the composition was determined to be in the W / O emulsion type.

[0122] (2) Dye mixing experiments: 2 g of a sample of the composition to be tested was placed in a weighing plate, to which 0.2 g of an aqueous solution of Water Soluble Blue (BLUE 1 (CI 42090) , with a trade name of UNICEF BLUE 05601-J, purchased from Sensient) at a concentration of 0.1%by mass was dropped. The plate was thoroughly shaken to observe whether Water Soluble BLUE 1 could be completely and evenly mixed into the sample. Based on the principle of “like dissolves like” , if Water Soluble BLUE 1 could be completely and evenly mixed into the sample, it indicated that the external phase was an aqueous phase, i.e. the composition was determined to be in the O / W emulsion type; and if Water Soluble BLUE 1 was difficult to be mixed into the sample, the composition was determined to be in the W / O emulsion type.

[0123] Characterization of stability

[0124] A sample of the composition to be tested was stored at a temperature of 50 ℃ for 4 weeks, then the sample was observed for delamination and occurrence of oil. If no delamination and occurrence of oil was observed, the system was considered stable.

[0125] Characterization of In-vitro SPF

[0126] The in-vitro sun protection factor (in-vitro SPF) of samples was measured by WinSPF software using SPF290AS analyzer from Solar Light Company, LLC. A sample was evenly applied onto a PMMA plate at 1.3 mg / cm2. Once the sample was dried, an SPF290AS analyzer was used to conduct measurements at four designated positions on the PMMA plate, with each measurement being conducted by scanning from 290 nm to 400 nm with an increment of 5 nm in wavelength. The in-vitro SPF value of the WinSPF software was read. Under the same conditions, the reference standard P8 (in-vivo SPF 63) was measured and its in-vitro SPF value in the WinSPF software was read. Based on the ratio of this result to 63, the in-vitro SPF value of the sample in the WinSPF software was converted, and finally the in-vitro SPF report value of the sample was obtained.

[0127] Characterization of water resistance

[0128] 0.5 g of each sample of the composition to be tested was applied to an equal area of artificial skin (model: BIODY Plates 20 #, purchased from Beaulax, Co. LTD) and rinsed with water for 2 minutes. Subsequently, it was observed whether any oil film was retained. If an oil film remained on the surface of the artificial skin, the sample was considered to be water-resistant; conversely, if no oil film remained on the artificial skin surface, the sample was considered not to be water-resistant.

[0129] Evaluation of skin feel

[0130] The skin feel of samples of each composition to be tested was scored in a panel of evaluators using the Tier benchmark method. The scoring method was as follows:

[0131] Skin feel scoring criteria (Tier 1-10, converting to an integer) : the skin feel of the aqueous phase formula was rated as 10 points (very lightweight, water-breaking) , and the skin feel of the oil-phase formula was rated as 0 point (very thick and greasy) . A score of 6 or more indicated a water-breaking or lightweight feel, while a score of 5 or less indicated a thick and greasy feel.

[0132] Appearance of materials after being applied

[0133] A sample of each of the composition to be tested was applied onto a BYK light-shielding cardboard 3B (simply referred to as a black and white card) . Appearances thereof, such as water-breaking effect was observed.

[0134] III. Preparation experiments of compositions

[0135] The composition according to Example 1 of the present invention (formula WSP-1) was prepared according to the composition formulas shown in Table 2 below by the following method: water, PEMULENTM TR-1 polymer, PEMULENTM TR-2 polymer, L-ARGININE C-GRADE, and 1, 3 BUTYLENE GLYCOL in the aqueous phase were sequentially added to a main pot, mixed evenly and heated to 80-85 ℃to obtain the aqueous phase component; the ingredients in the oil phase were added into an auxiliary pot and heated to 80-85 ℃ and mixed evenly for at least 15 minutes to obtain the oil phase component; the oil phase component was then slowly added to the aqueous phase component in the main pot under stirring, and homogenized at 6000-7000 rpm using a homogenizer for 15 minutes, then cooled to 30-40 ℃. The resulting mixture was taken out to obtain the composition.

[0136] The compositions of Examples 2-4 (formulas OT-5, OT-2, OT-3, respectively) were prepared in the same way as in Example 1 except that 900 and  KL2 were replaced with the compositions of the oil phase thickeners shown in Table 2, respectively.

[0137] The compositions of Comparative Examples 1-3 (formulas WSP-2, WSP-3, WSP-4, respectively) were prepared in the same way as in Example 1 except that  981 polymer, SEPIMAXTM ZEN, and NF-F were used instead of PEMULENTM TR-1 polymer and PEMULENTM TR-2 polymer, respectively.

[0138] The composition of Comparative Example 4 (formula EM-2) was prepared in the same way as in Example 1 except that a polyglycerol emulsifier BARSOLVE NS-100 having an HLB value greater than 8 was used instead of a polyglycerol emulsifier BARSPERSE-15 having an HLB value less than 8.

[0139] The composition of Comparative Example 5 (formula WSP-1 / P5) was prepared according to the composition formulas shown in Table 2 below by the following method: the ingredients in the oil phase were added to a main pot, heated to 80-85 ℃ and mixed evenly for at least 15 minutes to obtain the oil phase component; water was added into an auxiliary pot and heated to 80-85 ℃; then, water in the auxiliary pot was added to the main pot and homogenized at 6000-7000 rpm using a homogenizer for 15 minutes, then cooled to 30-40 ℃; subsequently, PEMULENTM TR-1 polymer, PEMULENTM TR-2 polymer, L-ARGININE C-GRADE, and 1, 3 BUTYLENE GLYCOL were sequentially added to the main pot, and mixed evenly. The resulting mixture was finally taken out to obtain the composition.

[0140] The composition obtained above was characterized and tested for emulsion type, stability, in vitro SPF value, water resistance and skin feel according to the test methods in Section II respectively.

[0141] Figs. 1A to 1I show microscope pictures of the compositions of Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Examples 1 to 5 (left: normal light; middle: polarized light) and observation results (right) of the visual appearance of the mixtures obtained by mixing with a dye, respectively. For the compositions of Examples 1-4 and Comparative Examples 3 and 4, a particle shinning phenomenon was observed from the microscope pictures can be seen, and Water Soluble Blue 5 could be completely mixed into the samples in the mixing experiments, indicating that they were in the O / W emulsion type, wherein the compositions of Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Example 3 were in the form of a bigel and the composition of Comparative Example 4 was in the form of an emulsion. In contrast, for the compositions of Comparative Examples 1-2 and 5, no particle shinning phenomenon was observed from the microscope pictures under the polarized light field, and Water Soluble Blue 5 failed to be completely mixed into the samples in the dye mixing experiments, indicating that they were in the form of W / O emulsion. The emulsion type results shown in Figs. 1A to 1I were summarized in Table 2.

[0142] Fig. 2A shows, from left to right, pictures of the visual appearance of the compositions of Example 1, Comparative Example 1, Comparative Example 2, Comparative Example 3, Example 2, Example 3, Example 4, Comparative Example 4, and Comparative Example 5 after storage at 50 ℃ for 4 weeks. Fig. 2B shows, from left to right, enlarged views of the pictures of visual appearance of the compositions of Comparative Example 2, Comparative Example 3, and Comparative Example 5 after storage at 50 ℃ for 4 weeks. It can be seen that the composition of Comparative Example 3 (formula WSP-4) showed obvious delamination after storage at 50 ℃ for 4 weeks, the composition of Comparative Example 2 (formula WSP-3) and the composition of Comparative Example 5 (formula WSP-1 / P5) showed occurrence of oil at the top after storage at 50 ℃ for 4 weeks, and the remaining compositions showed no delamination or occurrence of oil even after storage at 50 ℃ for 4 weeks, indicating that the compositions of Comparative Examples 2, 3 and 5 were unstable after storage at 50 ℃ for 4 weeks, and the remaining compositions behaved as a stable system. The stability results shown in Figs. 2A and 2B were summarized in Table 2.

[0143] Fig. 3 shows the test results of water resistance for individual compositions, wherein the three pictures in the first row correspond from left to right to the compositions of Example 1, Comparative Example 4, and Comparative Example 5, respectively, the three pictures in the second row correspond from left to right to the compositions of Comparative Examples 1 to 3, respectively, and the three pictures in the third row correspond from left to right to the compositions of Examples 2 to 4, respectively. It can be seen that Comparative Example 4 (formula EM-2) , similar to a conventional O / W emulsion, did not leave an oil film on the surface of the artificial skin after being rinsed with water, indicating that the composition was not water resistant. In contrast, an oil film was left on the surface of the artificial skin for all of the rest of the compositions. Particularly, although the compositions of Examples 1 to 4 according to the present invention were in the O / W emulsion type, a white oil film was left on the surface of the artificial skin after being rinsed with water, indicating that they were water resistant. The water resistance results shown in Fig. 3 were summarized in Table 2.

[0144] The skin feel evaluation results of each composition were summarized in Table 2.

[0145] Fig. 4 shows the observation results of the material appearance for individual compositions after being applied, wherein the five pictures in the first row correspond from left to right to the compositions of Example 1, Comparative Example 1, Comparative Example 2, Comparative Example 3, and Comparative Example 5, respectively, and the four pictures in the second row correspond from left to right to the compositions of Example 2, Example 3, Example 4, and Comparative Example 4, respectively. It can be seen that the compositions according to Examples 1 and 4 of the present invention (formulas WSP-1 and OT-3, respectively) presented a distinctly lightweight and water-breaking appearance; the compositions according to Examples 2 and 3 of the present invention (formulas OT-5 and OT-2, respectively) also presented a certain water-breaking feel; the compositions of Comparative Examples 1 and 2 (formulas WSP-2 and WSP-3, respectively) presented a distinctly sticky and thick appearance; the composition of Comparative Example 3 (formulas WSP-4) was found to present a rough appearance after being smeared, and the composition of Comparative Example 4 (formulas EM-2) was relatively homogeneous in appearance, and the two presented a weak water-breaking feel; and the composition of Comparative Example 5 (formula WSP-1 / P5) presented a very remarkable creamy appearance and was very thick. From the above, it can be seen that the evaluation results of the above material appearance were completely consistent with the skin feel evaluation results listed in Table 2.

[0146] As can be seen from Table 2 above, the compositions in the oil-in-water bigel form according to Examples 1-4 of the present invention showed a combination of good stability, excellent SPF effect (being compatible with both organic UV filters and inorganic UV filters) , and good water resistance, and presented an improved lightweight and water-breaking skin feel at the same time, as compared with the compositions of Comparative Examples 1-5. In contrast, the compositions of Comparative Examples 1-5 which did not meet the composition and form of the present invention failed to meet the above performance requirements at the same time.

[0147] In particular, Example 1 was a composition in the form of an oil-in-water bigel having the composition according to the invention; Comparative Examples 1-3 differed from Example 1 only in that Example 1 employed a crosslinked polymer of acrylates (esters)  / C10-30 alkyl acrylate as the aqueous phase thickener, while Comparative Examples 1-3 employed other types of aqueous phase thickeners; Comparative Example 4 differed from Example 1 only in that Example 1 employed a polyglycerol emulsifier having an HLB value less than 8, while Comparative Example 4 employed a polyglycerol emulsifier having an HLB value greater than 8; Comparative Example 5 differed from Example 1 in that the aqueous phase was added to the oil phase during the preparation of the composition of Comparative Example 5, while the oil phase was added to the aqueous phase during the preparation of the composition of Example 1, and as a result, the composition obtained in Comparative Example 5 was a water-in-oil emulsion, while the composition obtained in Example 1 was an oil-in-water bigel. From the results in Table 2 above, it can be seen that, as compared with the compositions of Comparative Examples 1 to 5, the composition of Example 1 showed a combination of good stability, excellent SPF effect (being compatible with both organic UV filters and inorganic UV filters) , good water resistance, and improved skin feel.

[0148] Further, it can be seen from the comparison among Examples 1-4 that the compositions of Examples 1-4 differed in composition only by the use of different oil phase thickener systems. It was unexpectedly found that the composition of Example 4 where dextrin palmitate was used as the oil phase thickener achieved a further improved SPF effect and skin feel, as compared with the compositions of Examples 1-3 where other oil phase thickener systems were used.

[0149] The above-described are only exemplary embodiments of the present invention. It should be noted here that, for those skilled in the art, modifications may be made to the present invention without departing from the inventive concept of the invention, but these fall within the protection scope of the present invention.
