Abstract
Description
SPIROTETRAMAT STABLE SUSPENSION CONCENTRATE COMPOSITIONS TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to an agrochemical composition comprising spirotetramat suspended in an aqueous phase and a stabilization system wherein the composition is free of an oil phase. Particularly the present invention relates to a stable suspension concentrate composition of spirotetramat.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Spirotetramat, also known as cis-3-(2,5-dimethylphenyl)-8-methoxy-2-oxo-1-azaspiro(4.5)dec-3-en-4-yl ethyl carbonate, is a widely used systemic insecticide derived from tetramic acid, effective in controlling a range of pests in agricultural crops. As a systemic insecticide, spirotetramat is absorbed by the plant and translocated through its vascular system, providing broad protection against pests, including difficult-to-control sap-sucking insects like aphids, whiteflies, and scale insects. Spirotetramat works by inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), a crucial enzyme involved in lipid biosynthesis, disrupting the pest’s cellular membrane production and ultimately leading to its death.
[0003] Suspension concentrates (SC) are one of the most common formulations used for agrochemical products, offering advantages such as high active ingredient loading, ease of application, and compatibility with various crop protection systems. However, the stability of active ingredients, including spirotetramat, in SC formulations is often compromised by issues like crystallization, phase separation, and loss of efficacy during storage and transport.
[0004] Spirotetramat presents unique challenges in suspension concentrate formulations due to its limited solubility and stability in water-based systems. As such, the development of stabilizing agents and formulation strategies has been essential to ensure long-term stability and effectiveness.
[0005] A dispersant plays a critical role in SC formulations by ensuring the uniform distribution of insoluble active ingredients within the liquid medium. It reduces particle agglomeration and sedimentation, maintaining the stability and homogeneity of the formulation. This contributes to consistent performance, ease of application, and extended shelf life, while also ensuring proper mixing and redispersion after storage. WO 2024 / 180226 discloses in general that the use of polymeric dispersants in high load suspension concentrate formulations is recommended due to their high molecular weight, large repulsive barrier and many anchoring groups per molecule, thus providing a stable suspension concentrate.
[0006] Traditional polymeric dispersants, such as sodium salt of naphthalene sulfonate condensate, have been widely used due to their effectiveness in stabilizing suspension concentrates. However, these dispersants raise significant environmental concerns due to their poor biodegradability, high persistence, and potential toxicity in aquatic environments. There is a growing need for more sustainable alternatives that minimize environmental impact while maintaining the high performance of the formulation.
[0007] The present invention addresses these challenges by providing a stable suspension concentrate composition of spirotetramat that overcomes the limitations of traditional dispersants. The invention utilizes an innovative stabilization system, offering improved stability and performance while aligning with green chemistry principles for a more environmentally friendly product.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
