Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for resource allocation for reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). In a solution, a communication device such as RIS receives, from a network device, resource information indicating at least one time resource table for an access link for data forwarding. The resource information further indicates a plurality of reference subcarrier spacings associated with the at least one time resource table. The communication device receives, from the network device, first indication information indicative of one of at least one time resource table or indicative of one of the plurality of reference subcarrier spacings and second indication information indicative of at least one time resource in the at least one time resource table. The communication device determines the at least one time resource for the access link based on the first indication information, the second indication information, and the at least one time resource table.

[0033] In some examples, values, procedures, or apparatus are referred to as ‘best, ’ ‘lowest, ’ ‘highest, ’ ‘minimum, ’ ‘maximum, ’ or the like. It will be appreciated that such descriptions are intended to indicate that a selection among many used functional alternatives can be made, and such selections need not be better, smaller, higher, or otherwise preferable to other selections.

[0034] As used herein, the term “resource, ” “transmission resource, ” “uplink resource, ” or “downlink resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, or any other resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, unless explicitly stated, a resource in both frequency domain and time domain will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0035] As used herein, the term “reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) ” may refer to a surface, which may be dynamically reconfigured to control the reflection, refraction, or absorption of electromagnetic waves. RIS is designed to enhance signal propagation, reduce interference, and improve communication performance by optimizing how signals are transmitted through complex environments.

[0036] As used herein, the term “Network-controlled repeater (NCR) ” is introduced by adding side control information for beam management based on radio frequency (RF) repeater, to extend the coverage in high frequency with a higher efficient method. RIS is proposed as one type of NCR’s further evolution. RIS and NCR may have similar frameworks. Besides coverage hole, changing the radio propagation environment is also the application scenarios.

[0037] Applications for RIS are very plentiful. The number of UEs whose services are assisted by RIS may be very large. For example, there are multiple base stations and buildings in the communication environment. A lot of IoT devices (e.g., smart office, smart transportation, AR / VR devices, etc. ) are deployed that need to support massive connectivity. Building structure and base station distribution may have an impact on signal propagation, especially for cell edge users and dead zone users, thus requiring aerial RIS and edge computing to optimize coverage and performance. The time domain resource allocation when multiple UEs with different parameters been provided services via a same RIS is to be studied.

[0038] Time domain resource configuration defined for NCR comprises periodic resource, semi-static resource and aperiodic resource. The periodic resource is a forwarding resource composed by {time resource, beam index} . As shown in FIG. 1A, the time domain resource is composed by {slot offset (Sslot) , symbol offset within the slot (Ssym) , number of symbols (Lsym) , periodicity} . A list including Y resource sets is indicated, and each set includes X forwarding resources (X may be different for different set) , shared reference Subcarrier spacing (SCS) and corresponding priority, where X<=1024, Y<=32, L_sym≤112. A same periodicity is expected for all the resource sets in the list.

[0039] For semi-static resources, Y resource sets are configured via radio resource control (RRC) . Each resource set includes {Zy forwarding resources, reference SCS, priority flag} (Zy may be different for different set) . Each forwarding resource consists of {beam index, time resource} . Each time resource is indicated by {slot offset, symbol offset within the slot, number of symbols (Lsym) , periodicity} , where Y<=32, Zy<=128, Lsym<=112. The periodicity of all the resources in a same list are expected to be the same. The semi-static resource is controlled by Medium Access Control Control element (MAC-CE) . For example, MAC-CE activates or deactivates one of the Y resource sets, or MAC-CE updates the beam indexes in the set.

[0040] The aperiodic resource is indicated by Downlink Control Information (DCI) such as DCI format 2_8. The forwarding aperiodic resource consists of beam index and time resource. For multiple beam indexes, multiple fields are included in the DCI format, and bitwidth of each filed (for example, a bitwidth <=6) is configured by aperiodicBeamFieldWidth-r18 in NCR-AperiodicFwdConfig-r18. For multiple time resources, multiple fields are included in the DCI format, and indication of each field is based on a preconfigured table (via RRC) . As shown in FIG. 1B, each resource configured by an entry in the table is indicated by {slot offset (kslot) , symbol offset within the slot (ksym) , number of symbols (dsym) } , where dsym≤28, kslot≤14. A reference SCS is configured in the table as a common parameter for all the entries. The maximum number of resources or entries in the table may be 112. The cyclic prefix (CP) of active Bandwidth part (BWP) of control link is applied for determining the CP type of time resource.

[0041] As used herein, BWP configuration and switching is as illustrated below. For BWP configuration, RRC configuration for Downlink (DL) is as follows: InitialDownlinkBWP, [1~4] downlinkBWP: BWP-ID, bwp-common (configured general parameters  including location and bandwidth, SCS, and CP) , bwp-dedicated, firstActiveDownlinkBWP-Id, defaultDownlinkBWP-Id.

[0042] For BWP switching, DCI triggers BWP switching. Bandwidth part indicator may be 0, 1 or 2 bits as determined by the number of DL BWPs nBWP,RRC configured by higher layers, excluding the initial DL bandwidth part. For example, if nBWP,RRC is 1 or 2, the bandwidth part indicator is 1 bit; and if nBWP,RRC is 3 or 4, the bandwidth part indicator is 2 bits. The bitwidth for this field is determined as bits, where: nBWP=nBWP,RRC+1 if nBWP,RRC≤3, in which case the bandwidth part indicator  is equivalent to the ascending order of the higher layer parameter BWP-Id; nBWP=nBWP,RRCin which case the bandwidth part indicator is defined in a  predefined Table.

[0043] As can be summarized from the above, the current allocation of aperiodic resources is relatively fixed, especially on subcarrier spacing for the indicated resources, which can cause inequality in the distribution of resources and waste of resources. The immediate issue to be solved is how to allocate time resource for RIS / NCR to forwarding signal when the SCS of the UE whose communication is assisted by RIS / NCR is changed, due to BWP switching.

[0044] To solve the above and other related / potential issues, embodiments of the present disclosure propose an example procedure of time domain resource allocation for RIS. In a solution, resource information indicating at least one time resource table for an access link for data forwarding is proposed. The resource information further indicates a plurality of reference subcarrier spacings associated with the at least one time resource table. Furthermore, first indication information indicative of one of at least one time resource table or indicative of one of the plurality of reference subcarrier spacings and second indication information indicative of at least one time resource in the at least one time resource table are proposed. In this way, the time resource for RIS / NCR to forwarding signal can be allocated accurately and efficiently. It may further avoid time resource waste for RIS.

[0045] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0046] FIGS. 2A and 2B illustrate example communication environments 200A and 200B in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented, respectively. In the communication environment 200A, a terminal device such as a user equipment (UE) 210 communicates with a network device 230, e.g., a gNB via a communication device 220. The communication device 220 may forward a signal received from the network device 230 to the terminal device 210. By way of example, the communication device 220 may be implemented as a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) or any other suitable communication device that may forward the signal to the terminal device 210. With the communication device 220, the network coverage may be extended.

[0047] In some embodiments, the communication device 220 such as the RIS may be a network node composed of an arrangement of scattering elements called unit-cells, whose properties may be dynamically controlled to change its electromagnetic behavior. The response of the communication device 220 may be controlled dynamically and / or semi-statically through control signaling such as to tune the incident wireless signals through reflection, refraction, focusing, collimation, modulation, absorption or any combination of these. As used herein, “the communication device 220 forwarding a signal or a data transmission” may refer to the communication device 220 reflecting, refracting, backscattering, focusing, collimating, modulating, absorbing the signal or data transmission, or any combination of these. The communication device 220 such as RIS may be considered as the promising enabler to construct the smart propagation with decent progress in research and development.

[0048] The communication device 220 may be implemented using mostly passive components without requiring high-cost active components such as power amplifiers, resulting in low implementation cost and energy consumption. This allows easy and flexible deployment of the communication device 220, with the possibility of the communication device 220 taking any shape and to be integrated onto objects (e.g., walls, buildings, lamp posts, etc. ) . The communication device 220 may have different structures with considerations of cost, form factor, design and integration. The communication device 220 may be implemented with any existing approaches or approaches to be developed, such as metamaterials and meta-surfaces, reflect-arrays or elementary antennas, or the like. Scope of embodiments of the present disclosure is not limited in this respect.

[0049] In some cases, in the communication environment 200A, there may be an obstacle (denoted as a block) such as buildings, mountains, or other structures that prevents or attenuates the transmission of signals, leading to poor or lost communication. In such cases, a plurality of communication devices 220 (not shown) may be deployed, or alternatively the communication device 220 with distributed locations may be deployed in the communication environment 200A to enhance the communication.

[0050] The communication device 220 may include a first module 222 and a second module 224, as shown in FIG. 2B, which illustrates a communication environment 210B. As illustrated in FIG. 2B, the communication environment 210B includes the UE 210, the network device 230 and the communication device 220 which includes the first module 222 and the second module 224. As used herein, the communication link between the network device 230 and the first module 222 of the communication device 220 is referred to a “control link” , the communication link between the network device 230 and the second module 224 of the communication device 220 is referred to a “backhaul link” , and the communication link between the UE 210 and the second module 224 of the communication device 220 is referred to an “access link” .

[0051] As illustrated in FIG. 2B, the UE 210 and the communication device 220 may communicate via the access link. Furthermore, the network device 230 and the communication device 220 may communicate via the control link and / or the backhaul link. Thus, the UE 210 and the network device 230 may communicate via the communication device 220.

[0052] In some embodiments, the control link may be used to transmit control information, from the network device 230 to the communication device 220, or transmit other information such as a measurement report from the communication device 220 to the network device 230. The backhaul link may be used to transmit a data signal or reference signal aimed to UE 210, from the network device 230 to the communication device 220. In addition, between the UE 210 and the communication device 220, the access link may be used to transmit the data signal or reference signal to UE 210 from network device 230.

[0053] The communications in the communication environments 200A and 200B may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0054] In some example embodiments, a direction from a network device 230 to the UE 210 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a direction from the UE 210 to a network device 230 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 230 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the UE 210 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the UE 210 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 230 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0055] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the UE 210 operating as a UE, the network device 220 operating as a base station and the communication device 220 operating as an RIS. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a UE may be implemented at a network device or other device, operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device, and operations described in connection with an RIS may be implemented at a network node or other device.

[0056] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections in FIG. 2A and FIG. 2B are given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication environments 200A and 200B may include any suitable number of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, there may be more UEs and / or network devices and / or communication devices in the communication environments 200A and 200B. Although not shown, the communication environments 200A and 200B may involve a core network with core network devices for supporting the communication.

[0057] The communication environment 210B includes the UE 210, the communication device 220, the network device 230, and the first module 222 and the second module 224 of the communication device 220. Moreover, the communication between the network device 230 and the first module 222 of the communication device 220 is referred to the control link, the communication between the network device 230 and the second module 224 of the communication device 220 is referred to the backhaul link, and the communication between the UE 210 and the second module 224 of the communication device 220 is referred to the access link.

[0058] As illustrated in FIG. 2B, the UE 210 and the communication device 220 may communicate via the access link. Furthermore, the network device 230 and the communication device 220 may communicate via the control link and the backhaul link. Thus, the UE 210 and the network device 230 may communicate via the communication device 220.

[0059] In some embodiments, the control link may be used to transmit control information, from the network device 230 to the communication device 220, including a signal associated with a measurement of a reference signal and a timing advance information. The backhaul link may be used to transmit the reference signal, from the network device 230 to the communication device 220. Moreover, the backhaul link may be used to transmit data signal. In addition, between the UE 210 and the communication device 220, the access link may be used to transmit the data signal. The data signal means the signal transmitted between the UE 210 and the network device 220.

[0060] The communications in the communication environments 200A and 200B may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like.

[0061] Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of a procedure of resource allocation for RIS in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3, the signaling flow 300 involves a communication device 310 and a network device 320.

[0062] In some embodiments, the communication device 310 may be implemented as the communication device 220 in FIGS. 2A and 2B, such as an RIS. The network device 320 may be implemented as a gNB or any other device that may access to network services, including the network device 230 in FIGS. 2A and 2B.

[0063] In the following descriptions, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0064] In the signaling flow 300, the network device 320 transmits (3010) , to a communication device 310, resource information indicating at least one time resource table for an access link for data forwarding. The resource information further indicates a plurality of reference SCSs associated with the at least one time resource table. Correspondingly, the communication device 310 receives (3020) the resource information from the network device 320. In this manner, the communication device 310 can be informed of multiple resources and multiple reference SCSs, and allocate resources and reference SCSs for different UEs based on the resource information.

[0065] Further, the network device 320 transmits (3030) , to the communication device 310, first indication information indicative of one of at least one time resource table or indicative of one of the plurality of reference subcarrier spacings. Correspondingly, the communication device 310 receives (3040) the first indication information from the network device 320. Based on the first indication information, the communication device 310 can select one or more of at least one time resource table or one or more of multiple reference subcarrier spacing, to achieve resource allocation based on independent reference subcarrier spacing for each of multiple UEs.

[0066] Moreover, the network device 320 transmits (3050) , to the communication device 310, second indication information indicative of at least one time resource in the indicated the one or more time resource tables indicated by the first indication information. Correspondingly, the communication device 310 receives (3060) the second indication information from the network device 320. There are more than one time resource in the time resource table. The communication device 310 can select at least one time resource in the at least one indicated time resource table based on the second indication information. In some embodiments, the first indication information and the second indication information may be transmitted via a single indication. Correspondingly, in some embodiments, the first indication information and the second indication information may be received in a single indication. The single indication may be single DCI, or any other suitable signaling. The first indication information and the second indication information may also be transmitted or received via separate indications, such as separate pieces of DCI.

[0067] Furthermore, the communication device 310 determines (3070) the at least one time resource for the access link based on the first indication information, the second indication information, and the at least one time resource table. The communication device 310 informed time resource and reference SCS based on the above information. When multiple UEs communicate via the communication device 310, the communication device 310 can allocate time resource and reference SCS for different UEs accurately and efficiently based on the above information.

[0068] In some embodiments, the resource information is comprised in a RRC message such as RRC (re) configuration message. The first indication information and the second indication information may be comprised in DCI.

[0069] In some embodiments, the at least one time resource table comprises a list of time resource tables, each time resource table in the list being associated with a corresponding reference subcarrier spacing. A first reference subcarrier spacing associated with a first time resource table in the list is different from a second reference subcarrier spacing associated with a second time resource table. For example, the configuration of the list of time resource tables and the configuration information element of a time resource table in the list is shown in Table 1, the index value set for each table and the maximum number of tables included in the list are defined in Table 2 as follows. It is to be understood that the parameters, fields, values and formats of the configuration (s) in Table 1, Table 2 and any other tables herein are only for the purpose of illustration, without suggesting any limitation. The parameter, field, value or format of the configuration of time resource may be varied. Table 1 Table 2

[0070] In Table 1, aperiodicFwdConfigToAddModList-r21 refers to a list of time resource tables. For example, the number of time resource tables in the list may be one value from 1 to maxNrofAperiodicFwdConfig-r21. RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21 refers to a time resource table in the list aperiodicFwdConfigToAddModList-r21. For the time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21, referenceSCS-r18 refers to a corresponding reference SCS configured for this time resource table or configured within this time resource table. For each RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21, a corresponding referenceSCS-r18 is configured. Table 2 shows the index value set for each time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21 and the maximum number maxNrofAperiodicFwdConfig-r21 of tables included in the list aperiodicFwdConfigToAddModList-r21.

[0071] In the list, multiple time resource tables are defined via RRC, and use one of it indicated by one time resource indication field in DCI for determining a time resource. RRC configures multiple time resource tables in the list, and each table has one reference subcarrier spacing.

[0072] In some embodiments, the first indication information comprises a time resource table indicator indicating a first time resource table and the second indication information comprises at least one field indicating the at least one time resource in the first time resource table. The at least one field corresponds to at least one beam index. in some embodiments, a common time resource table is indicated for all the time resource indication fields in a single DCI. All the time resource indicated by time resource indication fields are determined based on a same time resource table and a same reference SCS corresponding to the indicated time resource table. A suitable SCS may be chosen to maximum the flexibility of time resource allocation for RIS access link. For example, an SCS nearest to the average one (average (μ+1) -1) is chosen among the UEs whose services are assisted by the RIS simultaneously.

[0073] In an example embodiment, the aperiodic resource is indicated by DCI format 2_8. The DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) scrambled by network-controlled repeater radio network temporary identifier (NCR-RNTI) , reconfigurable intelligent surface network-controlled repeater radio network temporary identifier (RIS-RNTI) : TSTI: 0, 1, 2 bits, the bitwidth is determined by where It is the number of  time resource tables RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig configured in RIS-FwdConfig. The value of TSTI S indicates the S-th RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig in an ascending  order of aperidicFwdConfigId in the list is used for time resource determination indicated by time resource indication fields. Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N. The bitwidth of each beam index field is determined by the higher layer parameter  aperiodicBeamFieldWidth. Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource  indication N. The bitwidth of each time resource indication field is determined by max where I is the number of time domain resources or entries configured by S-th RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig indicated by TSTI. The bit field indexes of a time resource indication field are mapped to the time domain resources configured by aperiodicFwdConfig according to an ascending order of a resource identity configured by aperiodicFwdTimeRsrcId, with the bit field index 0 mapped to the time resource with the smallest resource identity.

[0074] In some embodiments, a bitwidth of the at least one field indicating time resource is determined based on the number of time resources or entries in the time resource table indicated by the time resource table indicator (TSTI) .

[0075] Based on the above, TSTI (time resource table indicator) is 0, 1, 2 bits, the length is determined by the size of table list configured by RRC. If the table list contains 1 or 2 tables, bit length of TSTI is 1 bit; or if the table list contains 3 or 4 tables, bit length of TSTI is 2 bits. For example, the TSTI is mapped to the time resource table in an ascending order of ID for the time resource table configured by RRC. Alternatively, in other embodiments the above mapping relationship between the TSTI and the time resource table may be descending or otherwise, without limitation herein.

[0076] In an example embodiment, there are N time resource indication fields (Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource indication N) and N beam indexes indication fields (Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N) in the DCI format for the second indication information. The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one-to-one mapping. For example, if Time resource indication 1 is selected, correspondingly Beam index 1 is selected. N is configured by the higher layer parameter numberOfFields of the time resource table indicated by TSTI. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits.

[0077] In some embodiments, the first indication information comprises a plurality of time resource table indicators indicating a plurality of time resource tables and the second indication information comprises a plurality of fields indicating a plurality of time resources in the plurality of time resource tables, the plurality of time resource table indicators corresponding to the plurality of fields for a plurality of beam indexes, and a time resource in the plurality of time resources is determined based on a corresponding time resource table and a reference subcarrier spacing associated to the time resource table.

[0078] In an example embodiment, separate time resource tables are indicated for each time resource indication in a single DCI. Instead of providing the same or common table for all time resource indication, there are multiple time resource tables indicated by multiple TSTIs. Each time domain resource is based on a table and reference SCS in the table separately / independently. DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with CRC scrambled by NCR-RNTI, RIS-RNTI: TSTI 1, TSTI 2, …., TSTI N. The bitwidth of each TSTI field may be 0, 1, 2, bits, and it is determined by the  number of time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig configured in higher layer parameters RIS-FwdConfig. TSTI n indicates the time resource table for beam index n with time resource indication n, and if the value of TSTI n is Sn, then the Sn-th RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig in an ascending order of aperidicFwdConfigId is used for time resource determination indicated by time resource indication n for beam index n. - Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N The bitwidth of n-th beam index field is determined by the higher layer parameter  aperiodicBeamFieldWidth configured in RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig indicated by n-th TSRI. - Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource  indication N. The bitwidth of the n-th time resource indication field is determined by max  where In is the number of time domain resources or entries configured by aperiodicFwdConfig the RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig indicated by n-th TSTI.

[0079] Based on the above, the first indication information comprises TSTI 1, TSTI 2, …., TSTI N, indicating different time resource tables separately. Firstly, the communication device 310 selects a time resource table from multiple time resource tables based on the first indication information. The second indication information comprises Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource indication N, indicating different time resource separately in one or more time resource tables. Then the communication device 310 selects a time resource from multiple time resources in the selected time resource table based on the second indication information. Similarly, The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one to one mapping. For example, if Time resource indication 1 is selected, correspondingly Beam index 1 is selected. The N TSTI index are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one-to-one mapping. For example, time resource indication 1 is associated with TSTI 1.

[0080] In some embodiments, the number of the plurality of time resource table indicators is same with at least one of: the number of beam index or the number of the at least one time resource indicator in the second indication information. For example, the number of fields for time resource table indication is N, same as that for beam index and time resources. N is configured by the higher layer parameter numberOfFields of the time resource table indicated by TSTI. And N configured in different time resource tables are expected to be same. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits. Bitwidth of each field for time resource table indication is determined by the size of time resource tables configured via RRC.

[0081] In some embodiments, the first indication information comprises a plurality of time resource table indicators indicating a plurality of time resource tables and the second indication information comprises a plurality of groups of fields indicating time resources in the plurality of time resource tables. A first time resource table indicator corresponds to a first group of fields indicating first time resources in a first time resource table, the first time resources being for a first group of beam indexes.

[0082] In an example embodiment, separate time resource tables are indicated for groups of time resource indication in a single DCI. Instead of providing separate tables for each resource indication, there are multiple time resource tables indicated for several resource indication by TSTI. A common time resource table is used for time resource determination in a group of the time resource indications. DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with CRC scrambled by NCR-RNTI, RIS-RNTI: TSTI 1, TSTI 2, TSTI 3, TSTI 4. The bitwidth of each TSTI field may be 0, 1, 2, bits, and it is determined by the  number of time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig configured in higher layer parameters RIS-FwdConfig. TSTI m indicates the time resource table for beam index with time resource indication in the group of m, and if the value of TSTI m is Sm, then the Sm-th RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig in an ascending order of aperidicFwdConfigId is used for time resource determination indicated by time resource indication for beam index in the m-th group. Group 1 includes the index of beam from 1 to Group 2 includes the index of  the beam from to Group 3 includes the index of beam from to  and Group 4 includes the index of beam from to N. The Same mapping ship is applied between group index and time resource indication. - Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N. The bitwidth of n-th beam index field is determined by the higher layer parameter  aperiodicBeamFieldWidth configured in RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig indicated by m-th TSRI, and m is the group index for the n-th beam index. - Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource  indication N. The bitwidth of the n-th time resource indication field is determined by max  where Im is the number of time domain resources configured by the RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig indicated by m-th TSTI, where m is the group index for the n-th time resource indication.

[0083] Based on the above, the first indication information comprises TSTI1, TSTI 2, …., TSTI4, indicating different time resource tables group (e.g. Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Group 4) separately. Firstly, the communication device 310 selects a time resource table from multiple time resource tables based on the first indication information. TSTI m indicates the time resource table for beam index with time resource indication in the group of m.

[0084] In some embodiments, a grouping of beam indexes is based on an ascending order of beam indexes. For example, there are N beam indexes for N time resource indication, where N is 40. Group 1 comprises 1st to 10th beam indexes, and Group 2 comprises 11th to 20th beam indexes, and Group 3 comprises 21th to 30th beam indexes, and Group 4 comprises 31th to 40th beam indexes. The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one-to-one mapping, and the summation of number of fields configured in the M RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig indicated by the M TSRI is equal to N, where M is no larger than the number of AperiodicFwdConfig configured in RIS-FwdConfig. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits.

[0085] In some embodiments, the number of fields for time resource table indication is equal to the number of groups of time resource indications. For example, the number of fields for time resource table indication is 4, and the number of groups of time resource indications is 4.

[0086] In some embodiments, a length of a time resource table indicator is based on a size of the list of time resource tables. For example, if the size of the list of time resource tables is 1 or 2, the length of a time resource table indicator is 1 bit; or if the size of the list of time resource tables is 3 or 4, the length of a time resource table indicator is 2 bits.

[0087] In some embodiments, a plurality of time resource table indicator values are mapped to a plurality of identifiers of time resource tables in the list in an ascending order. For example, there are 4 time resource tables. The value of TSTI 1 indicating the first time resource table is equal to 00, or the time resource table with lowest ID, and the value of TSTI 2 indicating the second time resource table is equal to 01, or the time resource table with the second ID, and the value of TSTI 3 indicating the third time resource table is equal to 10, or the time resource table with the third ID, and the value of TSTI 4 indicating the forth time resource table is equal to 11, or the time resource table with the highest ID.

[0088] In some embodiments, a first field in the second indication information corresponds to a time resource table in the list of time resource tables, and a bitwidth of the first field is determined based on the number of time resources in the time resource table indicated by a time resource table indicator corresponding to the first field. For example, if the number of time resources in the time resource table is one from 17 to 32, the bitwidth of the first field is 5 bit; or if the number of time resources in the time resource table is one from 33 to 64, the bitwidth of the first field is 6 bits.

[0089] In some embodiments, the at least one time resource table comprises a single time resource table. Each time resource in the time resource table may be configured with a corresponding reference subcarrier spacing.

[0090] In some examples, each time resource in a time resource table may be associated with a corresponding reference SCS. Table 3 illustrates an example configuration for the time resource table. As shown in Table 3, a time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21 is configured by RRC. The time resource table includes at least one time resource RIS-AperiodicFwdTimeResource-r21. For each time resource (entry) RIS-AperiodicFwdTimeResource-r21, a corresponding reference SCS ReferenceSCS-r21 is configured. . maxNrofAperiodicFwdTimeResource-r21 may define a maximum number of time resources in the time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21. Table 3

[0091] In the list, instead of one reference subcarrier spacing for one time resource table, RRC configures a time resource table and each time resource in the table is configured with a separate reference SCS. Within the independent reference SCS for a single time resource table, the number of time resources in the table indicated by resource information denoted as maxNrofAperiodicFwdTimeResource is increased and larger than 128, such as increased to 168.

[0092] In some embodiments, a reference subcarrier spacing list includes at least one reference subcarrier spacing. A reference subcarrier spacing in the list of reference subcarrier spacings corresponds to one or more time resources in the time resource table. For example, identifiers of time resources in the time resource table are mapped to the reference subcarrier spacing list, and the number of time resources corresponding to each of the reference subcarrier spacing in the list is indicated in the resource information. For example, the configuration of the time resource table and the reference subcarrier spacing list is shown in Table 4 as follows. In Table 4, a time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21 is configured by RRC. The configuration of the time resource table may include a reference SCS list ReferenceSCSList-r21. In the reference SCS list, one or more reference SCS may be configured. For example, in Table 4, referenceSCS1, referenceSCS2, referenceSCS3 and referenceSCS4 are configured. Each entry in the reference SCS list may be configured with an integer with maximum value being a maximum number of time resources. Table 4

[0093] In the list, ReferenceSCS1 denotes the SCS corresponding to μ=0, referenceSCS2 denotes the SCS corresponding to μ=1, referenceSCS3 denotes the SCS corresponding to μ=2, and referenceSCS4 denotes the SCS corresponding to μ=3 for FR1(frequency range 1) . If the information element is absent, then the number of time resources for the corresponding reference SCS is zero in default.

[0094] The number of time resources for each reference SCS may be indicated together. The total number of time resources is assumed to be equal to the summation of number of time resources for each reference SCS in the list.

[0095] In an example embodiment, a reference SCS is defined for each time resource in the time resource table configured for the RRC. The RRC configures a time resource table and each group of time resources is configured with a separate reference SCS.

[0096] The time resources with the ascending order of time resource ID are mapped to referenceSCS1, referenceSCS2, referenceSCS3, referenceSCS4 sequentially. If N1, N2, N3, N4 are configured for referenceSCS1, referenceSCS2, referenceSCS3, referenceSCS4 respectively, then The first N1 time resources with a lowest N1 ID are applied with or mapped to  referenceSCS1. The second N2 time resource with ascending ID from (N1+1) -th to (N1+N2) -th are  applied with or mapped to referenceSCS2. The third N3 time resources with ascending ID from (N1+N2+1) -th to  (N1+N2+N3) -th are applied with or mapped to referenceSCS3. The last N4 time resources with highest N4 ID are applied with or mapped to  referenceSCS4.

[0097] In an example embodiment, DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with CRC scrambled by NCR-RNTI, RIS-RNTI: - Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N. The bitwidth of each beam index field is determined by the higher layer parameter  aperiodicBeamFieldWidth. - Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource  indication N. The bitwidth of each time resource indication field is determined by max where I is the number of time domain resources configured by aperiodicFwdConfig. The absolute time of the n-th time resource is determined based on a reference SCS  mapping to the ID of the n-th time resource.

[0098] The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one to one mapping. N is configured by the higher layer parameter numberOfFields. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits.

[0099] Several example embodiments for time resource allocation for RIS have been described with respect to FIG. 3. With these embodiments, multiple SCSs may be configured for time resource for RIS or NCR access link. In this manner, the time resource allocation for RIS can be enhanced.

[0100] Reference is made to FIG. 4, which illustrates a signaling flow 400 of a procedure of resource allocation for RIS in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 4, the signaling flow 400 involves a communication device 410 and a network device 420.

[0101] In some embodiments, the communication device 410 may be implemented as the communication device 220 in FIGS. 2A and 2B, such as a RIS. The network device 420 may be implemented as a gNB or any other device that may access to network services, including the network device 230 in FIGS. 2A and 2B.

[0102] In the following descriptions, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results.

[0103] In the signaling flow 400, the network device 420 transmits (4010) , to a communication device 410, resource information indicating a time resource table for a path for data forwarding, the resource information further indicating at least one reference subcarrier spacing associated with the time resource table. Correspondingly the communication device 410 receives (4020) the resource information from the network device 420. The communication device 410 can be informed of a time resource table and at least one reference SCS, and allocate resources and reference SCS for different UEs based on the resource information.

[0104] Further, the network device 420 transmits (4030) , to the communication device 410, a configuration of an adjustment or re-configuration of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing. Correspondingly, the communication device 410 receives (4040) the configuration of the adjustment or re-configuration from the network device 420. Based on the configuration, the communication device 410 updates (4050) the at least one reference subcarrier spacing. For example, the reference SCS is adjusted or re-configured by DCI directly.

[0105] Moreover, the network device 420 transmits (4060) , to the communication device 410, an indication of at least one time resource. Correspondingly, the communication device 410 receives (4070) the indication from the network device 420. There are more than one time resource in the time resource table. The communication device 410 can select at least one time resource in the at least one time resource table.

[0106] Furthermore, the communication device 410 determines (4080) at least one time resource for the access link based on the indication and the at least one updated reference subcarrier spacing. The communication device 410 informed time resource and reference SCS based on the above information. When multiple UEs communicate via the communication device 410, the communication device 410 can allocate time resource and reference SCS for different UEs accurately and efficiently based on the above information. In some embodiments, the configuration of the adjustment or re-configuration of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing and the indication of at least one time resource may be transmitted in a single indication. Correspondingly, the configuration of the adjustment or re-configuration of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing and the indication of at least one time resource may be received in a single indication. In some embodiments, updating (4050) the at least one reference subcarrier spacing may be after receiving (4070) the indication.

[0107] In some embodiments, the resource information is comprised in a radio resource control message. The first indication information and the second indication information is comprised in downlink control information.

[0108] In some embodiments, the adjustment or re-configuration of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing comprises adjusting or re-configuring a common reference subcarrier spacing for at least one time resource. For example, the configuration field is 1 bit. If the configuration value is 0, the reference SCS configured by RRC in the time resource table is used. If the configuration value is 1, increase the parameters of SCS by 2, if the parameter is larger than 3, then wrap around. The re-configured reference SCS is used for all the time resource indications to determine the time resource.

[0109] DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with CRC scrambled by NCR-RNTI, RIS-RNTI: RefSCSIndicator 1 bit, to indicate the mapping relationship between the applied reference SCS and  the configured reference SCS in higher layer parameters aperiodicFwdConfig. If the value is 0, then the configured reference SCS in aperiodicFwdConfig is used for time resource determination, and if the value is 1, then the reference SCS corresponding to μ= mod(μ0+2, 4) is used for time resource determination, where μ0 is the parameters corresponding to the reference SCS configured in aperiodicFwdConfig. Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N. The bitwidth of each beam index field is determined by the higher layer parameter  aperiodicBeamFieldWidth. - Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource  indication N. The bitwidth of each time resource indication field is determined by max where I is the number of time domain resources configured by aperiodicFwdConfig.

[0110] The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one to one mapping. N is configured by the higher layer parameter numberOfFields. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits.

[0111] In some embodiments, the indication for at least one time resource indicates whether to use a corresponding reference subcarrier spacing without adjustment or a corresponding adjusted reference subcarrier spacing. For example, the indication for at least one time resource is RefSCSIndicator. When the value of RefSCSIndicator is 0, the corresponding reference subcarrier spacing without adjustment is used for determining the at least one time resource. When the value of RefSCSIndicator is 1, the corresponding adjusted reference subcarrier spacing is used for determining the at least one time resource.

[0112] In some embodiments, the configuration of the adjustment or re-configuration indicate that reference subcarrier spacing for at least one time resource is adjusted by: applying a modulo operation based on a modulo value and at least one parameter of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing. For example, the modulus of μ is 1, i.e., μ may be equal to 0, 1, 2, and 3. With equation μ=mod (μ0+2, 4) , the adjusted value μ can be calculated. If the initial value μ0 is equal to 0, then μ is equal to 2. If the initial value μ0is equal to 3, then μ is equal to 1.

[0113] In some embodiments, the adjustment or re-configuration of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing comprises adjusting the reference subcarrier spacing for each time resource in at least one time resource. An independent SCS is adjusted or re-configured for each time resource.

[0114] DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with CRC scrambled by NCR-RNTI, RIS-RNTI: RSCSI 1, RSCSI 2, …RSCSI N. The bitwidth for each RSCSI is 1 bit, and the n-th RSCSI indicates the relationship  between the applied reference SCS for the n-th time resource indicator and the configured reference SCS in higher layer parameters aperiodicFwdConfig. If the value is 0, then the configured reference SCS in aperiodicFwdConfig is used for the corresponding time resource determination, and if the value is 1, then the reference SCS corresponding to μ= mod (μ0+2, 4) is used for the corresponding time resource determination, where μ0 is the parameters corresponding to the reference SCS configured in aperiodicFwdConfig. - Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N.

[0115] The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one-to-one mapping. N is configured by the higher layer parameter numberOfFields. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits.

[0116] In some embodiments, the number of the reconfigure fields for reference SCS is equal to that of beam index or time resource indication. For example, both the number of beam index and the number of beam index time resource indication are N. The number of the reconfigure fields for reference SCS (RSCSI) is N similarly.

[0117] In an example embodiment, RSCSI N indicates the relationship between the applied reference SCS for the n-th time resource indicator and the configured reference SCS in higher layer parameters aperiodicFwdConfig. If the value of RSCSI 2 is 0, then the configured reference SCS in aperiodicFwdConfig is used for 2nd time resource determination, and if the value of RSCSI 2 is 1, then the reference SCS corresponding to μ=mod (μ0+2, 4) is used for 2nd time resource determination.

[0118] In some embodiments, the adjustment of the at least one reference subcarrier spacing comprises adjusting the reference subcarrier spacings for the plurality of time resources in at least one time resource. Multiple independent SCSs are adjusted for multiple groups of time resources.

[0119] DCI format 2_8 is used for notifying the aperiodic beam indication and associated time resources. The following information is transmitted by means of the DCI format 2_8 with CRC scrambled by NCR-RNTI, RIS-RNTI: Number of fields to use updated SCS or reference SCS configured by higher layer. The bitwidth is determined by number of N, which is it indicates the  number of fields of time resource indicator to use the updated reference SCS. Alternatively, the bitwidth may be determined based on the number of fields to use the reference SCS configured in higher layer. The updated reference SCS is determined by μ=mod (μ0+2, 4) , where μ0 is the reference SCS configured in higher layer parameters aperiodicFwdConfig. If the value is M, then the first M time resource indicators use the updated reference SCS, and the other N-M time resource indicators apply the reference SCS determined by μ0. Alternatively, the first M time resource indicators may use the reference SCS determined by μ0, while the other N-M time resource indicators may apply the updated reference SCS. This field may indicate which time resources use the original reference SCS configured by higher layer and which time resources use the updated reference SCS. - Beam index 1, Beam index 2, …, Beam index N The bitwidth of each beam index field is determined by the higher layer parameter  aperiodicBeamFieldWidth. - Time resource indication 1, Time resource indication 2, …, Time resource  indication N. The bitwidth of each time resource indication field is determined by max where I is the number of time domain resources configured by aperiodicFwdConfig.

[0120] The N beam indexes are sequentially associated with the N time resource indications with one to one mapping. N is configured by the higher layer parameter numberOfFields. The size of DCI format 2_8 is up to 128 bits.

[0121] In some embodiments, only the number of fields to use the original reference SCS or the number of fields to use the updated reference SCS is indicated. The remain ones apply the other reference SCS. For example, there are 64 Beam indexes, and the bitwidth is equal to 6. If the value is 4, then the first 4 time resource indicators use the updated reference SCS, and the other 60 time resource indicators apply the reference SCS determined by μ0.

[0122] In some embodiments, the updated or re-configured reference SCS may be one from μ= {0, 1, 2, 3} . Re-configure directly and override the one configured by higher layer, or update according to some pre-defined rules. For example, the updated reference SCS may directly replace the original reference SCS configured by higher layer. A mapping between original reference SCSs and updated reference SCSs may be established. The updated reference SCS may be obtained based on the mapping.

[0123] In some embodiments, the at least one reference subcarrier spacing may include a highest SCS in a frequency range, or a SCS higher than a threshold. The reference SCS is fixed as the highest SCS, to minimum the granularity of time resource indication. For Frequency Range 1 (450 MHz -7125 MHz) , 120k is applied to the reference SCS. For Frequency Range 2 (24.25 GHz -52.6 GHz) , 480k is applied to the reference SCS. The original configured reference SCS is omitted or invalid. The value range for each time resource configured in the higher layer parameters increases, such as the maximum number of time resources in the table is larger than 128, the maximum number of slot offset or the maximum number of symbols for the duration of the time resource are larger than 14 and 28 respectively. For example, a configuration of a time resource table RIS-AperiodicFwdConfig-r21 is shown in Table 5 as follows. For a time resource (entry) RIS-AperiodicFwdTimeResource-r21 in the time resource table, the maximum number of slot offset slotOffsetAperiodic-r18 is increased to 56, and the maximum number of symbols for the duration of the time resource durationInSymbols-r18 is increased to 112. In addition, the maximum number of time resources in the table maxNrofAperiodicFwdTimeResource-r21 is increased to 168. Table 5

[0124] By configuring a highest SCS, the time resource configuration can be enhanced. Such highest SCS or higher SCS may also be applied for those embodiments described with respect to FIG. 3.

[0125] Several example embodiments for time resource configuration and updating have been described with respect to FIG. 4. With these embodiments, the SCS modification or switching or adjusting may be applied for time domain resource allocation for RIS or NCR access link. With such time resource allocation with flexible SCS, the time resource allocation for RIS can be enhanced.

[0126] It is to be understood that these example parameters, fields, values, bitwidths or formats of resource information and control information described with respect to FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 are only for the purpose of discussion, without suggesting any limitations. These parameters, fields, values, bitwidths or formats may be varied in a suitable way. The signaling flow 300 and the signaling flow 400 may be applied separately, or in any suitable combination.

[0127] FIG. 5 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 500 implemented at a communication device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 500 will be described from the perspective of the communication device 220 in FIG. 2A and FIG. 2B.

[0128] At block 510, the communication device 220 receives, from a network device, resource information indicating at least one time resource table for an access link for data forwarding, the resource information further indicating a plurality of reference subcarrier spacings associated with the at least one time resource table.

[0129] At block 520, the communication device 220 receives, from the network device, first indication information indicative of one of at least one time resource table or indicative of one of the plurality of reference subcarrier spacings.

[0130] At block 530, the communication device 220 receives, from the network device, second indication information indicative of at least one time resource in the at least one time resource table.

[0131] At block 540, the communication device 220 determines the at least one time resource for the access link based on the first indication information, the second indication information, and the at least one time resource table.

[0132] In some example embodiments, the at least one time resource table comprises a list of time resource tables, each time resource table in the list being associated with a corresponding reference subcarrier spacing. A first reference subcarrier spacing associated with a first time resource table in the list is different from a second reference subcarrier spacing associated with a second time resource table.

[0133] In some example embodiments, the first indication information comprises a time resource table indicator indicating a first time resource table and the second indication information comprises at least one field indicating the at least one time resource in the first time resource table, the at least one field corresponding to at least one beam index.

[0134] In some example embodiments, a bitwidth of the at least one field indicating time resource is determined based on the number of time resources in the time resource table indicated by the time resource table indicator.

[0135] In some example embodiments, the first indication information comprises a plurality of time resource table indicators indicating a plurality of time resource tables and the second indication information comprises a plurality of fields indicating a plurality of time resources in the plurality of time resource tables. The plurality of time resource table indicators corresponding to the plurality of fields for a plurality of beam indexes. A time resource in the plurality of time resources is determined based on a corresponding time resource table and a reference subcarrier spacing associated to the time resource table.

[0136] In some example embodiments, the number of the plurality of time resource table indicators is same with at least one of: the number of beam index or the number of the at least one time resource in the second indication information.

[0137] In some example embodiments, the first indication information comprises a plurality of time resource table indicators indicating a plurality of time resource tables and the second indication information comprises a plurality of groups of fields indicating time resources in the plurality of time resource tables. A first time resource table indicator corresponds to a first group of fields indicating first time resources in a first time resource table, the first time resources being for a first group of beam indexes.

[0138] In some example embodiments, a grouping of beam indexes is based on an ascending order of beam indexes.
