[0039] Currently, the 6G scopes, requirements, and features are under discussion in the third generation partner project (3GPP) . It is widely considered that network energy saving and UE power saving should be Day-afeature in 6G.

[0040] In 5G, a number of energy / power saving techniques are introduced, e.g., UE discontinuous reception (DRX) , cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) or DRX, low power-wake up signal (LP-WUS) , etc. These techniques may also be used in 6G, and enhancements based on these techniques can be considered.

[0041] LP-WUS and cell DTX / DRX are useful techniques in 5G-A. However, due to the backward compatibility, these techniques are restricted in a limited condition. For example, the LP-WUS is used only in a serving cell and does not support mobility. For example, the cell DTX / DRX is used only for RRC connected UE and with a periodic manner.

[0042] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of communication. In the solution, a terminal device may receive a low power signal outside an active time of common DTX for the network device, and in addition the terminal device may perform cell selection or cell reselection based on the low power signal. As such, there is no need for the network device to transmit synchronization signal block (SSB) and discontinuous transmission of SSB is supported. The low power signal may be used for supporting UE mobility, and both network energy saving and UE power saving can be achieved since the low power signal is used for UE mobility. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0043] It should be noted that a term “SSB” is used on some embodiments of the present disclosure, however, the term may be replaced by another name of another term, which may represent a downlink signal that includes a synchronization signal and / or a broadcast signal, and that is used for cell search, synchronization, RRM measurement, etc.

[0044] In the present disclosure, a common DTX / DRX may also be called as common cell DTX / DRX, aperiodic cell DTX / DRX, on-demand cell DTX / DRX, etc., and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0045] In the present disclosure, the term “active time” may also be called as an active window, an active duration, or the like. In the present disclosure, the term “non-active time” may refer to time outside the active time.

[0046] FIG. 1A illustrates an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The communication network 100 may also be called as a network environment, a network system, a communication system, a communication environment, or the like, the present disclosure does not limit this aspect. The communication network 100 includes a network device 110 and a terminal device 120 which may communicate with each other. The communication network 100 may also include a core network (CN) which may involve a variety of network functions or entities.

[0047] In the communication network 100, the network device 110 and the terminal device 120 can communicate data and control information to each other, and the communications in the communication network may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) . For example, 6G communication protocol may be used for the communication between the network device 110 and the terminal device 120.

[0048] It is to be understood that the numbers of devices and their connection relationships and types shown in FIG. 1A are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. For example, there may be multiple terminal devices connecting to the network device 110. For example, the network 100 may include any suitable numbers of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the network device 110 may be implemented as multiple separate nodes.

[0049] The terminal device 120 may be equipped with a low power (LP) radio and a main radio. The LP radio may also be called as an LP transceiver (TRX) and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. The LP radio of the terminal device 120 may be used to transmit an LP signal and / or receive an LP signal. The main radio of the terminal device 120 may be used to transmit and / or receive other channel or signal other than the LP signal. For ease of description, the channel or signal transmitted / received by the main radio may be referred to as a main radio signal, including but not limited to receiving physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) , physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) , synchronization signal block (SSB) , channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) , or transmitting physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) , physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) , sounding reference signal (SRS) , etc.

[0050] In some embodiments, the LP radio of the terminal device 120 may be used to receive a DL LP signal from the network device 110. In some embodiments, the LP radio of the terminal device 120 may not be used to receive SSB, CSI-RS, PDCCH, or PDSCH from the network device 110. In some embodiments, the LP radio of the terminal device 120 may be used to transmit a UL LP signal to the network device 110. For example, the UL LP signal may be a low power sequence, a random access signal, etc.

[0051] The network device 110 may be equipped with a low power (LP) radio and a main radio. The LP radio may also be called as an LP transceiver and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. The LP radio of the network device 110 may be used to transmit an LP signal and / or receive an LP signal. The main radio of the network device 110 may be used to transmit and / or receive other channel or signal other than the LP signal. For ease of description, the channel or signal transmitted / received by the main radio may be referred to as a main radio signal, including but not limited to transmitting PDCCH, PDSCH, SSB, CSI-RS, or receiving PUCCH, PUSCH, SRS, etc.

[0052] In some embodiments, the LP radio of the network device 110 may be used to transmit a DL LP signal. In some embodiments, the LP radio of the network device 110 may not be used to transmit SSB, CSI-RS, PDCCH, or PDSCH. In some embodiments, the LP radio of the network device 110 may be used to receive a UL LP signal from the terminal device 120. For example, the UL LP signal may be a low power sequence, a random access signal, etc.

[0053] In some implementations, the LP radio of the network device 110 may be a dedicated node. In some examples, the dedicated node may be an LP node that is controlled by the network device 110 or may be a standalone node that has an interface with CN and / or other network device (s) .

[0054] In some implementations, the LP radio may transmit / receive LP signals in a dedicated resource, i.e. a dedicated time / frequency resource. In some examples, an LP channel may be defined which corresponds with the dedicated time / frequency resource. In some examples, the dedicated resource may be narrower than the channel bandwidth of the main radio. For example, the dedicated resource may be less than 5MHz or 1.44MHz. For example, the dedicated resource may be in a lower frequency band, such as frequency range 1 (FR1) . In some examples, the dedicated resource used by the LP radio may be not used by the main radio. For example, the dedicated resource may be not a part of 5G / 6G band. In some examples, the LP channel may be shared by or be associated with multiple frequency bands or cells.

[0055] In some implementations, the dedicated time / frequency resource of the LP channel may be located in a further cell, for example, the further cell may be a dedicated LP cell.

[0056] FIG. 1B illustrates an example schematic of the LP cell. As illustrated, the network device 110 may provide multiple cells including cell 1 and cell 2. In addition, the network device 110 may be equipped with an LP radio, and a dedicated LP cell 112 may be provided. The LP cell 112 may use a dedicated time / frequency resource and the LP signal may be transmitted / received in the LP cell 112.

[0057] It is to be understood that two or more of the multiple cells may be overlaid and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. It should be noted that although only one LP channel is illustrated in FIG. 1B, the number of LP channels may be more in some cases, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0058] FIG. 1C illustrates an example schematic of a dedicated node of the network device. As illustrated, the LP node 110-1 may provide LP signal coverage, gNB1 110-2 may provide cell 1, and gNB2 110-3 may provide cell 2. In some examples, it can be regarded as the network device 110 includes the LP node 110-1, gNB1 110-2, and gNB2 110-3. It is to be understood that although the term “gNB” is used in the present disclosure, the term may be replaced or changed by another phrase, such as xNB or the like, the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0059] Reference is now made to FIG. 2, which illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 200 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 200 may involve a network device 110 and a terminal device 120 as shown in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that the process 200 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.

[0060] In the process 200, the network device 110 may configure one or more cells (such as multiple cells) with a common DTX and / or a common DRX at 210. In some implementations, the network device 110 may set the multiple cells in a common DTX mode, in a common DRX mode, or in a common DTX and common DRX mode.

[0061] In some examples, a common downlink signal is not transmitted from the network device 110 in a non-active time of the common DTX. In some examples, a common uplink signal is not received by the network device 110 in a non-active time of the common DRX.

[0062] In some examples, for a cell that is configured with the common DTX, when it is not in an active time (it is in a non-active time) , the network device 110 will not transmit a cell common signal or a UE specific signal. For example, the network device 110 will not transmit at least one of the following signals in the non-active time: a synchronization signal such as an SSB, a broadcast signal, a CSI-RS such as a tracking reference signal (TRS) , a PDCCH, a PDSCH, etc. in the cell. For example, the SSB will not be transmitted outside an active time of the common DTX. In some examples, if a common DTX is configured for a cell, the network device 110 will not transmit SSB, CSI-RS, or SIB in the cell, unless the network device 110 indicates or the terminal device 120 triggers an active time of the common DTX for transmitting SSB, CSI-RS, or SIB. In some examples, the active time of the common DTX may appear periodically.

[0063] In some examples, for a cell that is configured with the common DRX, when it is not in an active time (it is in a non-active time) , the network device 110 will not receive a cell common signal from the terminal device. For example, the network device 110 will not receive PRACH, PUCCH, or PUSCH in the cell.

[0064] In some embodiments, the network device 110 may transmit a DL LP signal in an LP channel, e.g., in a non-active time of the common DTX. In some embodiments, the network device 110 may receive a UL LP signal in an LP channel, e.g., in a non-active time of the common DRX.

[0065] In some instances, the DL LP signal may include a low power synchronization signal (LP-SS) and / or a low power broadcast signal. For instance, the DL LP signal may be generated based on an on-off keying (OOK) modulation. It should be noted that some other signal may also be included by the DL LP signal, which will not be listed in the present disclosure. It should be noted that some other modulation may also be used, such as phase shift keying (PSK) , amplitude shift keying (ASK) , frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation, which is not limited in the present disclosure.

[0066] In some instances, the DL LP signal may be used for initial cell selection, radio resource management (RRM) measurement, or cell reselection. For instance, the DL LP signal may also be called as an LP discovery signal, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0067] In some instances, the DL LP signal may include a physical downlink LP channel (PDLPCH) and the UL LP signal may include a physical uplink LP channel (PULPCH) . In some instances, the UL LP signal may be generated based on a sequence, which is based on OOK / ASK / FSK / PSK modulation or is a ZC sequence.

[0068] In some examples, a frequency resource of the LP channel is narrower than a channel bandwidth of a main radio. In some examples, a frequency resource of the low power channel is not overlapped with a frequency resource used by a main radio.

[0069] In some examples, the LP channel may be associated with or may include a dedicated resource set. For example, the dedicated resource set may be located within resources of a cell in the multiple cells that are configured with the common DTX and / or common DRX. For example, the dedicated resource set may be located with resources of a further cell that is not included in the multiple cells that are configured with the common DTX and / or common DRX. For example, the further cell may be an LP cell.

[0070] For example, the LP cell may be in an energy saving mode. For example, the LP cell may have a dedicated cell identifier (ID) which is different from any cell ID of the multiple cells that are configured with the common DTX and / or common DRX. For example, a cell ID generation method used by the LP cell (e.g., for generating the dedicated cell ID) is different from that used by any of the multiple cells. For example, the dedicated cell ID of the LP cell is in a value range that is different from (not overlapped with) that for any cell ID of the multiple cells. For example, the dedicated cell ID of the LP cell is conveyed by a type of signal which is different from that used for any cell ID of the multiple cells. For instance, the dedicated cell ID of the LP cell is conveyed by a low power synchronization signal (LP-SS) or a low power broadcast signal, while a cell ID of a cell in the multiple cells is conveyed by SSB. For instance, a cell in the multiple cells, that is different from the LP cell, may be regarded as a normal cell.

[0071] On the other hand of communication, the terminal device 120 may determine that a common DTX and / or a common DRX is configured for the multiple cells at 215.

[0072] In the process 200, the network device 110 transmits, and the terminal device 120 receives a first low power signal at 220. In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may detect the low power channel, and then may determine that the first LP signal is detected in the LP channel.

[0073] In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may detect the first LP signal to select the suitable LP channel. In some example embodiments, the terminal device 120 may scan all candidate radio frequency (RF) channels for the first LP signal according to its capabilities to find the suitable LP channel.

[0074] In some examples, the first LP signal is transmitted outside an active time of the common DTX. In some examples, the first LP signal is associated with one or more cells.

[0075] In some implementations, the first LP signal may be a synchronization signal in LP mode, a name of which may be an LP-SS. It should be noted that the term “LP-SS” in the present disclosure is only for illustration without any limitation, for example, some other name may also be used.

[0076] In some example embodiments, the first LP signal may be generated on a sequence. In some examples, the sequence may include multiple symbols or multiple chips. In some examples, the sequence may be generated based on any of OOK, ASK, FSK, or PSK modulation. For instance, the first LP signal may include multiple OOK symbols or multiple OOK chips.

[0077] In some example embodiments, the first LP signal may be generated based on a pseudo-random sequence. In some examples, the pseudo-random sequence may be an m sequence, a gold sequence, a ZC sequence, or a computer generated sequence.

[0078] In some example embodiments, the first LP signal may be generated based on a sequence, where the sequence is generated based on a specific ID, such as a low power identifier (LPID) . For example, the LPID is one parameter in an equation for generating the sequence.

[0079] In some examples, the LPID may be one in a set of low power identifiers. For example, the set may include multiple candidate LPIDs. For instance, the number of the multiple candidate LPIDs may be any of 3, 6, 9, or another number.

[0080] In some examples, the LPID may be associated with a cell ID of a cell, for example, the LPID may be a function of the cell ID. For example, the LPID is associated with a cell ID of a cell operated by the network device 110, e.g., operated by a same gNB. For example, the LPID is associated with a cell ID of a cell whose SSB has a quasi co-location (QCL) relation with the first low power signal. For example, the LPID is a cell ID of a specific cell (e.g., an LP cell) .

[0081] In some instances, the LPID may be determined by or equal to mod (Cell_ID, N_LPID) , where Cell_ID refers to the cell ID and N_LPID refers to the number of candidate LPIDs in the set of low power identifiers.

[0082] In some instances, SSB of the cell may be generated based on the cell ID. For instance, SSB of the cell may be generated based on the cell ID and the LPID. For example, the terminal device 120 may determine the cell ID based on both the SSB and the first LP signal (e.g., LP-SS) .

[0083] In some examples, the LPID may be an ID used for generating a primary synchronization signal (PSS) of a cell. For example, the terminal device 120 may determine a cell ID based on the first LP signal (e.g., LP-SS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) .

[0084] In some examples, the first LP signal (e.g., LP-SS) may be transmitted periodically. The terminal device 120 may determine a periodicity of the first LP signal and monitor the first LP signal based on the periodicity. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may determine the periodicity based on preconfigured information, which may be received from a serving cell or from a last connected cell. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may assume one or more periodicities which are predefined, and the terminal device 120 may perform detection of the first LP signal based on the one or more periodicities.

[0085] In some examples, the terminal device 120 may monitor the first LP signal based on a valid time. For example, the valid time is determined based on at least one of the following: a signal sampling rate, a chip duration, or a symbol duration. In some instances, the terminal device 120 may assume that the first LP signal is transmitted at any valid time and then monitor the first LP signal continuously.

[0086] In the process 200, the network device 110 transmits, and the terminal device 120 receives a second low power signal at 230. In some implementations, after successfully detecting the first LP signal (e.g., LP-SS) , the terminal device 120 may further receive the second LP signal.

[0087] In some embodiments, the second LP signal starts from a time offset after a start or an end of the first LP signal. For example, there is a predefined time gap (i.e. time offset) between that start or the end of the first LP signal and the start of the second LP signal. For example, the terminal device 120 may detect the second LP signal based on the time offset and timing information of the first LP signal.

[0088] In some embodiments, a frequency resource of the second LP signal is overlapped with that of the first LP signal. For example, the frequency resource for the first LP signal and the second LP signal may be the same. In some embodiments, there may be a predefined or preconfigured gap between the frequency resource of the second LP signal and the frequency resource of the first LP signal.

[0089] In some embodiments, the second LP signal may be transmitted periodically. For example, a periodicity of the second LP signal may be predefined or preconfigured. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may determine the periodicity of the second LP signal, e.g., based on preconfigured information that is received from a serving cell or from a last connected cell. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may not assume a periodicity of the second LP signal, and may blind detect the second LP signal.

[0090] In some examples, the second LP signal may include broadcast information and / or multicast information. For example, the second LP signal may include master information block (MIB) information and / or system information block (SIB) information.

[0091] In some example embodiments, the second LP signal may be generated based on a sequence that includes multiple symbols or multiple chips. In some examples, the sequence may be generated based on any of OOK, ASK, FSK, or PSK modulation. In some example embodiments, the second LP signal may be generated based on a pseudo-random sequence. In some examples, the pseudo-random sequence may be an m sequence, a gold sequence, a ZC sequence, or a computer generated sequence. In some example embodiments, the second LP signal may be generated based on a sequence, where the sequence is generated based on a specific ID, such as the LPID. In some example embodiments, the second LP signal may be generated based on a coded bit that is generated based on the broadcast information or the multicast information. In some examples, the coded bit may be based on OOK / ASK / FSK / PSK modulation.

[0092] In some embodiments, the second LP signal may indicate a start of an active time of the common DTX. In some examples, the second LP signal includes first information indicating the start of the active time of the common DTX. For example, the first information may include an offset value, for example, the active time of the common DTX starts from an offset value after the end of the second LP signal or after the end of the first LP signal. For instance, aperiodic active time may be assumed.

[0093] In some embodiments, the second LP signal may include a periodicity of the active time of the common DTX. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may determine the start of the active time based on the periodicity and the offset value. For instance, the offset value may be indicated by the second LP signal or may be predefined or preconfigured.

[0094] In some embodiments, the second LP signal may include a duration of the active time of the common DTX. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may assume that the SSB is transmitted in the duration of the active time.

[0095] In some embodiments, the second LP signal may include second information of SSB. In some examples, the second information may include one or more of the following: a frequency location of SSB, a periodicity of SSB, or a number of SSBs in an SSB burst. For example, the terminal device 120 may monitor SSB in active time based on the second information.

[0096] In some embodiments, the second LP signal may include cell information. In some examples, the cell information may include one or more cell IDs of one or more cells. In some examples, the cell information may include a cell group ID of the one or more cells. In some examples, the cell information may include a resource (such as a time and / or frequency resource) of a synchronization signal (e.g., SSB) for the one or more cells.

[0097] In some examples, the terminal device 120 may detect SSB by assuming that the SSB is generated based on one cell ID in the one or more cell IDs indicated by the second LP signal. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may detect SSB by assuming that a PSS of the SSB uses a same ID as the first LP signal (e.g., LP-SS) , for instance, the same ID is LPID.

[0098] In the process 200, the terminal device 120 determines an active time of the common DTX for at least one cell based on the second LP signal at 240. In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may determine an active time for a first cell based on the second LP signal. For example, the first cell is one of the multiple cells that are configured in common DTX mode.

[0099] In the process 200, the terminal device 120 performs a cell selection or a cell reselection based on the first LP signal and / or the second LP signal at 250. For example, the first / second LP signal is received outside the active time for the at least one cell (e.g., the first cell) .

[0100] In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may perform cell selection or cell reselection based on an LP signal (the first LP signal and / or the second LP signal) if a certain condition is met, otherwise, the terminal device 120 may perform cell selection or cell reselection based on SSB. For example, if the certain condition is not met, the terminal device 120 may perform cell selection or cell reselection based on the SSB that is received via a main radio. For example, the terminal device 120 may receive SSB in an active time of the common DTX from a first cell.

[0101] In some embodiments, the certain condition may include one or more of the following: the terminal device has no stored information of whether a low power signal and / or common DTX is used for a cell or for a frequency range, the terminal device is informed that the plurality of cells are configured with the common DTX or with a low power signal, the terminal device has failed to perform a cell selection or a cell reselection based on an SSB measurement, the terminal device has not found a suitable cell based on an SSB measurement within a specific time duration, the terminal device has determined that an SSB is transmission with a common DTX mode, or the terminal device has determined that an SSB is not transmitted with a predetermined periodicity. For example, the specific time duration may be a threshold time.

[0102] In some examples, from network perspective, when all cells (or primary cells, i.e., Pcell and / or PScell) are configured with the common DTX, the network device 110 may expect the terminal device 120 to perform the cell selection or the cell reselection based on an LP signal. For example, the terminal device 120 is required to perform cell selection / reselection based on the LP signal if the all cells (or Pcell and / or PScell) are configured with the common DTX. Otherwise, the terminal device 120 is expected to (or is required to) perform cell selection / reselection based on a legacy signal, e.g., SSB, in a cell which is not configured with the common DTX.

[0103] In some examples, the terminal device 120 may perform the cell selection or the cell reselection based on an SSB simultaneously while performing the cell selection or the cell reselection based on the first / second LP signal. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may attempt to find a suitable cell based on the SSB. For example, the terminal device 120 may assume that the SSB is transmitted without DTX, and the terminal device 120 may perform cell selection / reselection based on the SSB on an assumption basis that the SSB is transmitted without DTX.

[0104] In some examples, if no suitable LP channel is found based on the LP signal, the terminal device 120 may start to perform the cell selection / reselection based on the SSB. For example, if a time period for scanning RF channels exceeds a threshold (e.g., a threshold time length) , the terminal device 120 may determine that no suitable LP channel is found. For example, the terminal device 110 determines the active time of the common DTX, e.g., based on the second LP signal; and then the terminal device 110 may receive SSB in the active time of the common DTX. In addition, the terminal device 110 may perform cell selection / reselection based on the SSB.

[0105] In some examples, cell information of a cell (e.g., a cell ID of the cell) may be included in the LP signal (the first LP signal and / or the second LP signal) . In some examples, the terminal device 120 may determine the cell information of the cell, after detecting / receiving the first / second LP signal. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may determine to select the cell with the cell information (e.g., a cell ID) that included in the first / second LP signal.

[0106] Specifically, the general procedure for the cell selection and reselection based on LP signal may be indicated in the following:

[0107] FIG. 3 illustrates an example schematic for determining an active time 300 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is assumed that the first LP signal is an LP-SS and the second LP signal is an LP broadcast signal.

[0108] As illustrated, the terminal device 120 (i.e. the UE in FIG. 3) may scan RF channels to find a suitable LP channel. In addition, the UE may receive the LP broadcast signal, and determine the active time. In some examples, the SSB may be transmitted periodically in the active time, and in addition the UE may san SSBs to find a suitable cell.

[0109] Referring back to FIG. 2, in addition or alternatively, the terminal device 120 may determine to perform an LP channel reselection procedure or start cell reselection procedure at 260. In some implementations, if the terminal device 120 is in an idle mode and an LP channel has been determined, the terminal device 120 may perform an LP signal measurement and LP channel quality evaluation to determine a first quality of the LP channel and a second quality of a neighbor LP channel. In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may perform an LP channel reselection based on the first quality and the second quality.

[0110] In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may perform LP signal measurement and LP channel quality evaluation, e.g., after a suitable LP channel is found. For example, the suitable LP channel may be regarded as a serving LP channel.

[0111] In some examples, the first quality may be a serving LP channel quality, or a quality of serving LP channel, where the serving LP channel is current selected LP channel. In some examples, the first quality of the LP channel is determined based on a measured result of the first LP signal. For example, the first quality is determined based on the measured signal power of the first LP signal (e.g., LP-SS) of the serving channel quality.

[0112] In some examples, the second quality may be a neighbor LP channel quality, or a quality of a neighbor LP channel. In some examples, the second quality of the neighbor low power channel is determined based on a measured result of an LP signal in the neighbor LP channel, where an identifier of the neighbor LP channel is determined based on at least one of the following: a blind detection of an LP signal, or neighbor LP channel information in the second LP signal.

[0113] In some examples, the terminal device 120 may determine an LPID of the neighbor LP channel based on blind detection of LP-SS, or based on neighbor LP channel information received in a second LP signal (e.g., an LP broadcast signal) . In some examples, the second quality is determined based on an LP signal (e.g., an LP-SS) of a neighbor LP channel. Optionally, when the first quality of the serving LP channel is below (or not larger than) a threshold, the terminal device 120 starts to evaluate the neighbor LP channel quality.

[0114] In some examples, if the first quality and the second quality meet a reselection condition, the terminal device 120 may determine (or select, reselect) the neighbor LP channel to be a serving LP channel. For example, if the second quality of a neighbor LP channel is better than the first quality of the current serving LP channel or better than it plus an offset, the terminal device 120 may reselect the neighbor LP channel as the new serving LP channel.

[0115] FIG. 4A illustrates an example schematic of LP channels 410 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. It is assumed that LP channel 1 is a serving LP channel firstly selected. The terminal device 120 may determine a quality of the LP channel 1, a quality of LP channel 2, and a quality of LP channel 3, where LP channel 2 and LP channel 3 are neighbor LP channels. In some examples, if a quality of LP channel 1 is lower than a threshold and a quality of LP channel 2 is larger than the threshold, the terminal device 120 may select LP channel 2 as a new serving LP channel. In some examples, if a quality of LP channel 3 is larger than a quality of LP channel 1 and a difference between them is larger than a difference threshold, the terminal device 120 may select LP channel 3 as a new serving LP channel.

[0116] In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may perform a cell reselection based on at least one of the following: a re-selected LP channel with a different LP channel identifier, or information triggering the cell reselection that is comprised in the received second LP signal.

[0117] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may assume that an LP channel (or an LPID) is associated with a cell. In some examples, after an LP channel is reselected, the terminal device 120 may determine that the current serving cell is not suitable. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may start performing cell reselection after it has reselected an LP channel, for example, the terminal device 120 may trigger an active time of the common DTX. In some examples, the terminal device 120 may start performing cell reselection after receiving the second LP signal and the second LP signal includes information triggering the cell reselection. For example, the second LP signal may be an LP broadcast signal. For example, the second LP signal includes a new tracking area information or a cell reselection request for triggering the cell reselection.

[0118] FIG. 4B illustrates an example schematic of LP channels 420 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated, different LP channels are associated with different LPIDs. For example, an LPID is used for one LP channel, and a different LPID is used for a different LP channel.

[0119] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may not assume that an LP channel (or an LPID) is associated with a single cell, in other words, the terminal device 120 may assume that multiple cells (e.g., neighbor cells) may have a same LPID. In some examples, the LP-SS of the multiple cells may be transmitted with same time and frequency resource, i.e., in a single frequency network (SFN) manner. In some examples, if the terminal device 120 reselect an LP channel with a new LPID, the terminal device 120 may perform the cell reselection.

[0120] FIG. 4C illustrate an example of LP channels 430 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated, different LP channels are associated with a same LPID. For example, LPID1 is used for LP channel 1, LP channel 2, and LP channel 3. In some examples, if the terminal device 120 reselects a new LP channel with LPID2 (e.g., LP channel 4 which is not illustrated) , the terminal device 120 may perform cell reselection.

[0121] In some implementations, the terminal device 120 may perform the cell selection or the cell reselection based on the SSB in case at least one of the following: the received second LP signal indicates to the terminal device to stop monitoring LP signals, a quality of a serving LP channel is lower or not larger than a predefined threshold and a further suitable LP channel is not found, or the terminal device determines to camp on a cell that is configured with SSB transmission without common DTX. As such, a fallback mechanism may be applied.

[0122] In some examples, the terminal device 120 has received the second LP signal, and the second LP signal indicates to the terminal device 120 to stop monitoring LP signals or stop monitoring LP signals for cell selection / reselection, then the terminal device 120 may stop monitoring LP signals and start perform cell selection / reselection based on SSB.

[0123] In some examples, a current serving LP channel of the terminal device 120 is below a threshold and the terminal device 120 cannot find a new suitable LP channel or the measurement result (s) of all neighbor LP channels are below the threshold, then the terminal device 120 may stop monitoring LP signals and start perform cell selection / reselection based on SSB.

[0124] In some examples, the terminal device 120 may have found a cell which is configured with a normal SSB transmission, in this case, the terminal device 120 may determine to camp on this cell and stop monitoring LP signals. For example, the cell found by the terminal device 120 is not configured with the common DTX.

[0125] It should be noted that the terminal device 120 stops monitoring LP signals may refer to that the terminal device 120 stops monitoring LP signals for cell selection / reselection, in some examples, the terminal device 120 may continue monitoring LP signals for other purposes, such as for UE power saving, determining DTX / DRX active time, RRM measurement, etc., the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0126] It should be noted that some operations in FIG. 2 may be removed / deleted, changed / modified, or combined, one or more additional operations may be added, to obtain some other embodiments, which are still in the protection scope of the present disclosure. For example, the operation 230 may be removed. For example, the network device 110 may determine the active time of the common DTX and transmit SSB in the active time.

[0127] According to embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2-4C, a solution for network energy saving and UE power saving is provided. In the solution, the network device 110 can discontinuously transmit SSB in one or more cells, for example, the network device 110 may transmit LP signals. The transmission of LP signals consumes less energy than that of SSB, thus the energy consumption can be reduced from network side, and the network energy saving can be achieved. In the solution, the terminal device 120 can be in an idle mode, and the terminal device 120 may monitor LP signals and perform cell selection / reselection based on LP signals. The reception of LP signals consumes less energy than the reception of SSB, thus the energy consumption can be reduced at UE side, and the UE power saving can be achieved.

[0128] In addition, even though the SSB is not transmitted periodically, the terminal device 120 still can perform cell selection / reselection based on LP signals, as such, LP signals can be used to support UE mobility and the communication for the terminal device 120 can be guaranteed.
