[0001] DESCRIPTION
[0002] Title: Vehicle Storage Device
[0003] The present invention relates to the field of storage devices, and in particular to storage devices intended for use in a motor vehicle. More specifically, the present invention relates to a storage device capable of being positioned in various locations within the motor vehicle.
[0004] Storage solutions in vehicles allow items to be stored in a predefined space, preventing them from being moved around the vehicle. These storage solutions can be located anywhere in the vehicle, including within the trunk.
[0005] Storage devices are generally designed to optimize the available space within the vehicle, while ensuring easy access to the items they allow to be stored.
[0006] For example, a common storage solution is the use of a rigid storage bin in the trunk of a car. However, such a bin takes up significant space in an area intended for other items, and its fixed shape limits its usability. Furthermore, the rigid storage bin can cause inconvenience, particularly noise, if it shifts in the trunk while the vehicle is in use.
[0007] It is also known from earlier times to use bungee cords or cables to hang items for storage. While using bungee cords or cables reduces clutter inside the vehicle, it can lead to difficulties in securing and / or installing them, and does not allow for organized storage.
[0008] The present invention falls within this context by proposing a vehicle storage device that allows for organized storage of objects while limiting the space taken up within the vehicle, this storage device is also suitable for nomadic use by allowing implementation in different places in the vehicle, or even outside of it.
[0009] The main object of the present invention is a storage device configured to be fixed to a structural element of a vehicle, comprising a tarpaulin, at least one strap and at least one attachment system to the structural element of the vehicle, the tarpaulin comprising at least one base layer having a plurality of perforations, at least one strap being attached to at least one base layer and carrying the attachment system, the storage device comprising at least one fixing pin extending through one of the perforations of the base layer.
[0010] The storage device according to the invention is configured for use in a motor vehicle. To this end, the storage device has an attachment system that allows it to be fixed to a structural element of the vehicle. This structural element of the vehicle is, for example, a trim panel or an external element such as a roof rack. The attachment system allows for removable attachment to the structural element of the vehicle, so that the storage device can be placed in different locations within the vehicle or even used outside of it. The attachment system thus allows for the mobile use of the storage device.
[0011] The fastening system is associated with one or more straps of the storage device. The strap is attached to a tarpaulin, which forms the main body of the storage device and is dedicated to storing items inside the vehicle. In other words, the tarpaulin provides a receiving space for these items. The tarpaulin comprises a base layer, which is a flexible sheet designed to receive the items. These items can be secured to the base layer by means of at least one fastening pin, which is itself attached to the base layer by extending through a perforation in the base layer. The items are secured to the base layer by the fastening pin and by means of a tie, such as an additional strap or a bungee cord, which is attached to the fastening pin.In other words, the base layer and the fastening peg act as an intermediary between the straps of the storage device and the additional strap or tensioner. The base layer has multiple perforations, giving the storage device modularity during use. It is possible to position the fastening pegs in different locations on the base layer, for example, by varying the spacing between them, and thus secure objects in different places on the base layer.
[0012] According to an optional feature of the invention, at least a portion of the strap extends outside the tarpaulin. The portion of the strap extending outside the tarpaulin carries the fastening system. This helps to minimize the bulk within the tarpaulin intended to hold the stored items.
[0013] According to an optional feature of the invention, the tarpaulin comprises a first longitudinal end and a second longitudinal end, the strap comprising a first end portion extending beyond the first longitudinal end of the tarpaulin and a second end portion extending beyond the second longitudinal end of the tarpaulin, the strap comprising an intermediate portion extending along the tarpaulin between the first longitudinal end and the second longitudinal end.
[0014] The tarpaulin extends primarily along a longitudinal direction and has a first longitudinal end and a second longitudinal end that define its boundaries along said longitudinal direction. The strap extends beyond both ends of the tarpaulin and also includes an intermediate section that runs along its length. This intermediate section stiffens the tarpaulin and distributes stress within it when a user of the storage device uses the straps, for example, when securing the storage device to the vehicle's structural element.
[0015] According to an optional feature of the invention, the fastening system has a shape complementary to a shape of the fixing pin.
[0016] The fastening system, for example, has a female structure, while the fastening pin has a male structure with complementary dimensions and shapes. The fastening system and the fastening pin are not intended to cooperate, but fastening means identical to the fastening pin are arranged on the vehicle's structural element, enabling the fastening system to be secured to said structural element. These fastening means are, for example, located at various points on the vehicle. According to an optional feature of the invention, the storage device comprises an additional layer, with the base layer and the additional layer being superimposed.
[0017] The additional layer, which in some embodiments is without perforations, can, for example, give the tarpaulin waterproofing properties. This ensures the protection of the area of the vehicle where the storage device is located, or conversely, protects the objects on the tarpaulin when it is used outside the vehicle and placed directly on the ground. Furthermore, the multiple layers of the tarpaulin increase the storage space within it, for example, by creating a receiving area for the items to be stored between the two layers.
[0018] According to an optional feature of the invention, the base layer and the additional layer are joined together by at least one fixing pin.
[0019] The fastening pin extends, for example, through both the base layer and the additional layer. In some embodiments, the same fastening pin, which secures the base layer and the additional layer, can also be used to attach objects with an additional strap or tensioner. In other words, the fastening pin is connected to each layer and forms a protrusion from the base layer to serve as an attachment point for an additional strap or tensioner.
[0020] According to an optional feature of the invention, the intermediate part of the strap extends between the base layer and the additional layer.
[0021] Thus, each layer of the base and the additional layer is directly aligned with the webbing, preventing slippage of either layer. This also protects the webbing by passing it between the two layers. According to an optional feature of the invention, the fastening pin extends through the webbing.
[0022] In this case, the fastening pin extends, for example, through the base layer, the webbing, and the additional layer. If necessary, the webbing may have a localized increase in width to accommodate the fastening pin; that is, to allow the pin to pass through while ensuring sufficient webbing material remains around the pin's hole so that the webbing is not weakened in this area.
[0023] According to an optional feature of the invention, the intermediate section of the strap is in contact with the base layer of the tarpaulin, extending in a straight line from the first longitudinal end to the second longitudinal end of the tarpaulin. Since the strap can be attached to the tarpaulin at specific points, the term "in contact" here encompasses embodiments in which there is a gap between the strap and the base layer due to this point attachment. The fact that the intermediate section of the strap extends in a straight line helps to limit stress and torsion on the strap. Furthermore, the intermediate section of the strap provides stiffening within the storage device.
[0024] According to an optional feature of the invention, the perforations all have a shape complementary to a shape of the fixing pin.
[0025] The perforations, for example, have a square or circular shape. The complementary shape of the perforations to that of the fixing pin contributes to the modularity of the storage system, as a fixing pin can be positioned within each perforation.
[0026] The perforations also have a passage cross-section smaller than the head of the fixing pin. This head prevents accidental disengagement of the fixing pin, unless a user of the storage device decides to manipulate the head of the fixing pin themselves to extract it from the perforation.
[0027] According to an optional feature of the invention, the tarpaulin includes a median zone equidistant from the first longitudinal end and the second longitudinal end, the median zone forming a folding zone of the storage device.
[0028] The folding design of the storage unit makes it easy to store when not in use. This folding area also allows the unit to be transformed into a bag, with the strap forming a carrying handle. This bag-like design is particularly useful for transporting items stored inside the unit out of the vehicle.
[0029] According to an optional feature of the invention, the folding area is devoid of perforations.
[0030] The absence of perforations in the folding area enhances its rigidity, as this area is particularly subject to stress when the storage device is used as a bag. This contributes to the durability of the storage device. According to an optional feature of the invention, the fastening pin comprises a body, each end of which carries a head that widens one dimension of the fastening pin.
[0031] It is understood here that the fixing pin comprises two heads positioned on either side of its body. Each head of the fixing pin is also larger than one dimension of the perforation that receives the fixing pin. This particular shape of the fixing pin allows for bonding to both the base layer and the additional layer, which are trapped between the two heads of the fixing pin.
[0032] Alternatively, the fixing pin could consist of a single body and head, with the body glued to the tarpaulin at one end and the single head attached to the other. The single head would then protrude from the base layer.
[0033] According to an optional feature of the invention, the storage device includes a cable extending through at least one perforation to form a specific receiving area on the tarpaulin.
[0034] The cable is designed to secure the stored items to the tarpaulin. For example, the cable is woven into the perforations of the base layer. This cable allows for the orderly arrangement of the stored products.
[0035] According to an optional feature of the invention, the storage device comprises at least two fixing pegs extending through the base layer and a link capable of cooperating with the two fixing pegs to form a specific receiving area on the tarpaulin.
[0036] The two fixing pins and the link allow for the orderly organization of the products to be stored. The link is, for example, a tensioner.
[0037] According to an optional feature of the invention, at least the base layer is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
[0038] In some embodiments, both the base layer and the additional layer are made of PVC. PVC is chosen because it gives the tarpaulin waterproofing while retaining the flexibility necessary for its installation in different locations on the vehicle and / or its folding. According to an optional feature of the invention, the tarpaulin has a general octagonal shape.
[0039] The overall octagonal shape of the tarpaulin allows for easy integration into a vehicle trunk, and also facilitates folding the storage device into a bag for transport.
[0040] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle, comprising a structural element and a storage device as previously mentioned, the storage device being attached to the structural element by the fastening system.
[0041] Other features, details and advantages of the invention will become clearer upon reading the following description on the one hand, and the illustrative and non-limiting examples of embodiments given with reference to the accompanying drawings on the other hand, in which:
[0042] [Fig. 1] illustrates, schematically, a storage device according to the invention intended to store objects and intended to be attached to a structural element of a vehicle, the storage device comprising a tarpaulin formed of a base layer and an additional layer, the storage device being illustrated according to a first embodiment;
[0043] [Fig. 2] illustrates, schematically, a second embodiment of the storage device according to the invention, with objects being stored within the storage device;
[0044] [Fig. 3] illustrates, schematically, the additional layer of a storage device as illustrated in figures 1 or 2;
[0045] [Fig. 4] illustrates, schematically, the base layer and the additional layer of the storage device as illustrated in figures 1 or 2;
[0046] [Fig. 5] schematically illustrates a fixing pin of the storage device; [Fig. 6] schematically illustrates the storage device of figure 1 transformed into a carrying bag by folding.
[0047] The features, variations, and different embodiments of the invention can be combined in various ways, provided they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, variations of the invention may include only a selection of features, described hereafter in isolation from the other described features, if this selection is sufficient to confer a technical advantage and / or to differentiate the invention from prior art.
[0048] In the figures, elements common to several figures retain the same reference numeral. Figures 1 and 2 thus schematically illustrate a storage device 1 according to the invention, intended for use in a motor vehicle. The storage device 1 is designed to store at least one object 2 present in the motor vehicle, for example, to prevent the object 2 from moving unintentionally within the vehicle.
[0049] As illustrated in Figure 1, the storage unit 1 is located in a trunk 4 of the motor vehicle. The storage unit 1 is specifically attached to a structural element 6 of the motor vehicle, in this case, one of the partitions that define the trunk 4. However, the storage unit 1 could also be located on another structural element 6 of the motor vehicle or outside of it, as the storage unit 1 is designed to be removable and portable.
[0050] The storage unit 1 is connected to the structural element 6 by means of at least one fastening system 8, which is schematically represented in the figures by a square. The fastening system 8 has a complementary shape to a fastener on the structural element 6, this fastener being configured to receive the fastening system 8. Due to this complementary shape, the fastening system 8 allows the storage unit 1 to be attached to the structural element 6 by interlocking, i.e., in a removable and non-permanent manner. The fastener, which is not shown in the figures, is, for example, a component that protrudes from the structural element 6 and against which the fastening system 8 engages. The storage unit 1 includes a tarpaulin 10 that forms a storage space for the object(s) 2 to be stored within the storage unit 1. This tarpaulin 10 has a generally octagonal shape.
[0051] The tarpaulin 10 extends mainly in a longitudinal direction. The tarpaulin 10 comprises a first longitudinal end 12 and a second longitudinal end 14 which delimit the tarpaulin in the longitudinal direction, this first longitudinal end 12 and this second longitudinal end 14 corresponding to two of the furthest edges of the general octagonal shape of the tarpaulin 10.
[0052] The tarpaulin 10 may, depending on the embodiment, have a single layer or a plurality of layers. More specifically, the tarpaulin 10 comprises at least one base layer 16 and, in some embodiments, an additional layer 18. The base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 have equivalent dimensions and are superimposed on one another. When the storage device 1 is positioned within the trunk 4 of the motor vehicle, the additional layer 18 is in contact with a bottom wall of said trunk 4, while the base layer 16 is opposite it. In other words, when the storage device 1 is positioned within the trunk 4, the base layer 16 covers the additional layer 18.
[0053] The base layer 16 is configured to receive the objects 2 to be stored within the motor vehicle 2, while the additional layer 18 makes the tarpaulin 10 waterproof, as will be described later. It is also possible to place the objects 2 between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18.
[0054] The additional layer 18 is shown in isolation in Figure 3, and a tarpaulin 10 formed from both the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 is illustrated in an exploded view in Figure 4. The base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 are flexible sheets made, for example, of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). As illustrated in Figure 4, the base layer 16 has a plurality of perforations 20. The perforations 20 are divided into a first group of perforations 20A, extending from the first longitudinal end 12 of the tarpaulin 10, and a second group of perforations 20B, extending from the second longitudinal end 14 of the tarpaulin 10. A central area 22 of the base layer 16 of the tarpaulin 10 is devoid of perforations 20.The median zone 22, which extends approximately equidistant from the first longitudinal end 12 and the second longitudinal end 14, has, for example, a dimension of 5 to 15 centimeters when measured along the longitudinal direction. As will be described later, the first group of perforations 20A and the second group of perforations 20B form receiving zones for the objects 2 to be stored in the storage device 1.
[0055] The perforations 20 made in the base layer 16 all have the same shape, for example a general square shape, as well as the same dimensions.
[0056] Alternatively, the perforations 20 could have another shape, for example, a general square shape with rounded corners to prevent local tearing of the tarpaulin 10, as shown in the figures, or a general circular shape. In its representation in Figure 3, the additional layer 18 comprises a plurality of openings 24. The additional layer 18 comprises fewer openings 24 than the number of perforations 20 in the base layer 16. The openings 24 are distributed along the edges delimiting the additional layer 18, and in particular along the longitudinal ends 12, 14. The openings 24 have the same shape and dimensions as the perforations 20.
[0057] Unlike the perforations 20 of the base layer 16, the openings 24 are not intended to participate in the storage of objects 2. Rather, the openings 24 are intended to help to join the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18. Thus, a majority of the openings 24, or even all of the openings 24, are intended to be passed through by a fixing pin 26 specifically configured to join the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 to each other.
[0058] The fixing pin 26 is illustrated in Figure 4 and also in Figure 5, where it is shown in isolation. The fixing pin 26 consists of a body 28 that connects a first head 30 and a second head 32, at least one of these heads 30, 32 being fitted into the body 28. The body 28, when viewed along a cross-section parallel to the heads 30, 32, has a generally square cross-section. The heads 30, 32 have a substantially flat face connected to the body 28 and a convex face opposite the body 28.
[0059] The body 28 has dimensions, measured along the cutting plane, that are substantially equivalent to the dimensions of the perforations 20 and the openings 24. It is understood here that the body 28 of the fixing pin 26 is intended to fit snugly within the perforations 20 and / or the openings 24. On the contrary, each of the heads 30, 32 has dimensions greater than the dimensions of the perforations 20 and the openings 24; in other words, the heads 30, 32 widen the fixing pin 26 relative to its body 28.
[0060] In a first configuration, the fastening pin 26 is configured to help secure an object 2 to the tarpaulin, and this fastening pin 26 then only interacts with the base layer 16. One of the heads 30, 32 extends between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18, the body 28 passes through one of the perforations 20 in the base layer 16, and the other head 30, 32 overlaps the base layer 16, opposite the additional layer 18. In a second configuration, the fastening pin 26 has its heads 30, 32 on either side of the tarpaulin 10. It can then either serve solely to fasten the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 to each other, or serve additionally to fasten objects 2 against the base layer 16, provided that the head 30, 32 which protrudes from the base layer 16 extends far enough from this base layer 16 to allow the attachment of a link 46 which will be described later.In this second configuration, the heads 30, 32 extend on either side of the tarpaulin 10 while the body 28 passes through one of the perforations 20 of the base layer 16 and one of the openings 24 of the additional layer 18. The heads 30, 32 of the fixing pin 26 are configured to block the body 28 between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18, the substantially flat face of the heads 30, 32 forming a stop surface which prevents the fixing pin 26 from dislodging.
[0061] As previously mentioned, the fastening system 8 has a shape complementary to the fastening means located on the structural element 6, which contributes to securing the fastening system 8 to the structural element 6 of the motor vehicle. The fastening means of the structural element 6, for example, has a shape similar to that of one of the heads 30, 32 of the fastening pin 26. In particular, the fastening means of the structural element 6 has the shape of a rail adapted to receive one of the heads 30, 32 of the fastening pin 26.
[0062] The fastening system 8 is not carried by the tarpaulin 10; rather, it is connected to this tarpaulin 10 by means of at least one strap 34 of the storage device 1. The strap 34 has a first end portion 36 and a second end portion 38 which extend the tarpaulin 10 beyond its longitudinal ends 12, 14 in the longitudinal direction. In other words, at least the end parts 36, 38 of the strap 34 extend outside the tarpaulin 10. As is particularly visible in figures 1 and 2, each end part 36, 38 of the strap 34 is here equipped with an attachment system 8. There is thus a first attachment system 8A at the first longitudinal end 12 of the tarpaulin 10, and a second attachment system 8b at the second longitudinal end 14 of said tarpaulin 10.
[0063] The storage device 1 may comprise a single strap 34 or a plurality of straps 34, for example, two straps 34. In the case of a storage device 1 having two straps 34, each of these straps 34 extends from the first attachment system 8A to the second attachment system 8B. In addition to its end portions 36, 38, the strap 34 comprises an intermediate portion 40 that connects the first end portion 36 and the second end portion 38. The intermediate portion 40 of the strap 34 extends along the tarpaulin 10. At least the intermediate portion 40 is attached to the base layer 16 of the tarpaulin 10.
[0064] Figure 1 illustrates the storage device 1 according to a first embodiment and Figure 2 represents it according to a second embodiment, the first embodiment and the second embodiment differing in the arrangement of the strap 34. In the first embodiment of Figure 1, the strap 34 extends between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18; more particularly, the intermediate part 40 of the strap 40 is intercalated between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18. In this first embodiment, the strap 34 is secured to the base layer 16 by means of at least one fixing pin 26.One of the fixing pins 26 which helps to connect together the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 extends for example through a hole provided for this purpose in the intermediate part 40 of the strap 34, so that the body 28 of the fixing pin 26 passes through both the perforation 20 of the base layer 16, the hole in the strap 34 and the opening 24 of the additional layer 18.
[0065] Furthermore, in the first embodiment of Figure 1, the intermediate part 40 of the strap 34 extends along a straight line from the first longitudinal end 12 of the tarpaulin 10 to its second longitudinal end 14. In other words, the intermediate part 40 of the strap 34 extends mainly along the longitudinal direction.
[0066] In the first embodiment, the storage device 1 comprises at least one transverse band 42 or transverse strap 42 extending perpendicularly to the intermediate portion 40 of the strap 34. The storage device 1 here comprises two transverse bands 42, one extending between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 opposite the first group of perforations 20A, and the other extending between the base layer 16 and the additional layer 18 opposite the second group of perforations 20B. The transverse bands 42 are attached to the tarpaulin 10 by means of one or more fastening pins 26.
[0067] In the second embodiment of Figure 2, the intermediate portion 40 of the strap 34 extends beyond the tarpaulin 10; the intermediate portion 40 thus extends alongside the tarpaulin 10, along its edge. In this second embodiment, the strap 34 is attached to the base layer 16 of the tarpaulin 10 by means of one or more straps 44 which form a loop around the strap 34 and are themselves attached to the base layer 16 by one or more fastening pins 26.
[0068] The objects 2 to be stored within the storage device 1 can be secured to it by various means, which will now be described in relation to Figures 1 and 2. In these two figures, the first group of perforations 20A and / or the second group of perforations 20B form receiving areas for the objects 2 to be stored in the storage device 1. The objects 2 are secured here using a tie 46, for example a tensioner, which is attached at one end to a fixing pin 26 and at the other end to another fixing pin 26, each of the fixing pins 26 being attached to the tarpaulin 10 via one of the perforations 20 of the base layer 16. The tie 46 therefore extends between two fixing pins 26, the object 2 to be stored being positioned between the base layer 16 of the tarpaulin 10 and the tie 46 and held in place by this tie 46.
[0069] Alternatively or additionally, the storage device 1 may include a cable, not shown here, which extends through several perforations 20; the cable is then woven through the perforations 20 so as to extend successively on either side of the base layer 16. One or more objects 2 may then be slid between the cable and the base layer 16.
[0070] Advantageously, each perforation 20 that is not crossed by a fixing pin 26 participating in the bonding of the base layer 16 to the additional layer 18 is capable of receiving an additional fixing pin 26 used for receiving an object 2. A user of the storage device 1 can therefore modulate the storage device 1 by positioning one or more fixing pins 26 within the base layer 16 according to their needs and according to the object reception areas 2 that they wish to create within the tarpaulin 10.
[0071] As mentioned above, the storage device 1 is designed for portable use and can be used outside the motor vehicle with which it was described. To this end, the storage device 1 can be transformed into a carrying bag for one or more objects 2 that it holds. Such a storage device 1 transformed into a carrying bag is illustrated in Figure 6. The storage device 1 is transformed into a carrying bag by folding along its mid-section 22; in other words, the mid-section 22 forms a folding area for the storage device 1. Notably, and as described in relation to Figure 4, the mid-section 22 is devoid of perforations 20. This allows this mid-section 22 to become a reinforced area that serves as the base for the storage device 1 in its carrying bag form.
[0072] When the storage device 1 is folded along the median area 22, the first longitudinal end 12 of the tarpaulin 10 aligns with its second longitudinal end 14. A receiving space for the objects 2 to be transported is then formed between the portion of the base layer 16 bearing the first group of perforations 20A and the portion of the base layer 16 bearing the second group of perforations 20B, these portions forming the internal walls of the transport bag. The external walls of the transport bag are formed by the additional layer 18. Alternatively, as shown in Figure 6, the storage device 1 can be folded so that the portion of the base layer 16 bearing the first group of perforations 20A and the portion of the base layer 16 bearing the second group of perforations 20B form the external walls of the transport bag, with the additional layer 18 forming its internal walls.
[0073] During the use of the storage device 1 in the form of a carrying bag, the strap 34 and, where applicable, the fastening system 8 that it carries can form a gripping device facilitating the carrying of the carrying bag.
[0074] The present invention thus proposes a storage device 1 having modular receiving areas for organized storage of different objects, the storage device 1 being able to be easily integrated within a motor vehicle or alternatively be used outside of it.
[0075] The present invention is not limited to the means and configurations described and illustrated herein, and also extends to any equivalent means and configuration as well as any technically operative combination of such means.
