Refillable cosmetic product

Abstract

A cosmetic product comprises a container with a cavity, a removable drawer designed to hold a cosmetic substance and featuring a locking member, and a frame that fits within the container's cavity. This frame has openings for exposing the cosmetic substance and for receiving the drawer. When the drawer is inserted into the frame, the locking member engages with an engaging member on the frame to secure the drawer in place.

Description

REFILLABLE COSMETIC PRODUCTFIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to cosmetic products and, more particularly, to cosmetic products having refillable features.BACKGROUND

[0002] Containers and storage receptacles for cosmetic products and / or substances are provided in a number of different arrangements and configurations. For example, containers may be used to retain a cosmetic substance in the form of a blush powder and / or foundation product. These containers may include a removable and / or a rotatable (e.g., a flip-up) top to allow a user to access and use the cosmetic substance contained therein. Oftentimes, such existing containers are manufactured by disposing the cosmetic substance within a pan which is permanently adhered to a frame of the container to provide for stability during manufacturing as well as during shipment. However, such arrangements may not be reusable, as separating the pan from the frame may permanently damage one or both of these components. Further examples may incorporate reusable components whereby different pans containing cosmetic substance may be removably coupled with the container. However, due to manufacturing tolerances, these components may potentially allow for unwanted relative movement which may damage the cosmetic substance during coupling, removal, and / or storage of the various pans.

[0003] Accordingly, there is a need for improved products having improved functionalities.SUMMARY

[0004] Examples within the scope of the present disclosure are directed to the use of a cosmetic product having ergonomic and replaceable features. In accordance with a first aspect, a cosmetic product includes: (1) a container defining a cavity; (2) a removable drawer including a drawer floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a drawer cavity adapted to retain a cosmetic substance, the removable drawer further including a locking member extending from the sidewall; and (3) a frame adapted to be at least partially disposed within the cavity of the container, the frame including a frame floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a first opening and a second opening, the frame further including at least one engaging member extending from the sidewall. The first opening is adapted to expose the cosmetic substance such that it may be collected and removed from the drawercavity and the second opening is adapted to slidably receive the removable drawer. Upon slidably inserting the removable drawer into the second opening of the frame, the locking member engages the at least one engaging member to retain the removable drawer within the frame.

[0005] In some examples, the locking member may include a finger having a nib extending in a generally orthogonal direction to the finger. In these and other forms, the engaging member can further include at least one nodule. Further, the locking member may include an abutment surface. Additionally, the abutment surface can comprise an upper surface, the upper surface being generally planar.

[0006] Moreover, the at least one engaging member may include a platform, wherein the abutment surface is adapted to abut a portion of the platform when the removable drawer is disposed within the frame. In some examples, the abutment surface can cooperate with the portion of the platform to restrict movement in a direction out of the cavity.

[0007] In another approach, at least one of the locking member or the at least one engaging member may be constructed from a deformable material adapted to flex upon inserting the removable drawer within the frame. In these and other arrangements, engagement between the locking member and the at least one engaging member can generate a tactile feedback indicative of complete coupling between the removable drawer and the frame.

[0008] In accordance with a second aspect, a cosmetic product includes: (1) a container defining a cavity; (2) a removable drawer including a drawer floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a drawer cavity adapted to retain a cosmetic substance, the removable drawer further including an upper ledge extending from the sidewall and a locking member extending from the sidewall; and (3) a frame adapted to be at least partially disposed within the cavity of the container, the frame including a frame floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a first opening and a second opening, the frame further including an upper rim extending from the sidewall and at least one engaging member extending from the sidewall. The first opening is adapted to expose the cosmetic substance such that it may be collected and removed from the drawer cavity and the second opening is adapted to slidably receive the removable drawer. Upon slidably inserting the removable drawer into the second opening of the frame, the locking member and the at least one engaging member form a first point of contact therebetween.

[0033] Generally speaking, pursuant to these various approaches, cosmetic product containers are provided having removable drawers or trays for accommodating cosmetic substances. These removable drawers allow a user to quickly and easily replace a first cosmetic substance with a different cosmetic substance such as, for example, when the first cosmetic substance is used or fully depleted. In other examples, the removable drawer may allow a user to substitute different cosmetic substances having varying characteristics (e.g., hues, longevity properties, and / or any other features) as desired. Notably, the cosmetic product containers described herein provide for a quick, smooth removal and insertion process of desired removable drawers. Additionally, specific features carried by portions of the containers ensure the cosmetic product is not damaged during the insertion and / or removal process.

[0034] Turning to the Figures, a cosmetic product 100 is provided in the form of a palette. Generally, the cosmetic product 100 includes a container 102, a cover 106, a removable drawer 110 (or tray), a frame 120, and an applicator 130. The container 102 includes a cavity 102a for selectively retaining the removable drawer 110, the frame 120, and / or the applicator 130, and further includes a container coupling member 104. The container 102 may be constructed from any number of suitable materials and / or combinations of materials such as, for example, metals, polymers, and the like. As illustrated in FIGS. 1-21, in some examples, the container 102 has a generally cylindrical body, but other examples of suitable shapes and / or configurations are possible. The container may have a generally curved or chamfered transition to enhance comfort when handled by a user. In some examples, the container coupling member 104 may be in the form of an opening or other cutout to cooperate with portions of the cover 106 and / or the frame 120.

[0035] The cover 106 may be in the form of a lid or a cap and includes a cover coupling member 107 in the form of a hinge that engages with the container coupling member 104 via a common hinge or pin 108 to hingedly couple the cover 106 with the container 102. In the illustrated example, the cover coupling member 107 is in the form of an extension that extends downwardly from the cover 106 and includes any number of protrusions 107a that are insertable within or otherwise engage the corresponding container coupling member 104. In other examples, however, the components of the container coupling member 104 and the cover coupling member 107 may be reversed. The engagement between the container 102 and the cover 106 allows the cover 106 to swivel between a closed configuration (as illustrated in FIGS. 1-10) and an open configuration (as illustrated in FIG. 11).

The removable drawer 110 further includes an upper ledge 114 coupled to and / or otherwise formed with the sidewall 113.

Other examples and / or arrangements are possible.

In some examples, the locking member 115 may be constructed from a deformable, resilient, and / or flexible material to accommodate relative flexing movement. In yet other examples, a liner 111 may be disposed within the drawer cavity 113a. Such a liner 111 may be provided to cushion the removable drawer 110 and / or to reduce or otherwise eliminate vibration during transit or handling of the cosmetic product 100.

Further, in some examples, the upper rim 123 may be dimensioned to abut, rest on, or be nestled within a sidewall of the container 102 when the frame 120 is in a lowered position. The sidewall 122 further includes a slot or second opening 124. In the illustrated example, the slot or second opening 124 extends around approximately half or more of periphery of the sidewall 122.

In the illustrated arrangement, a user may grasp either ridge of the gripping member 118 to assist with removing the removable drawer 110 from the frame 120, as the gripping member 118 may protrude a distance below the frame floor 121 of the frame 120.

[0049] With reference to FIGS. 19-21, continued insertion of the removable drawer 110 into the frame 120 causes the nib or nibs 116a of the finger 116 to engage the nodule 127a of theengaging member 127. As a result, the removable drawer 110 may be retained within the cavity 122a of the frame 120 until sufficient removal force is applied thereto. Such an arrangement may prevent unintended removal of the removable drawer 110 if and when the frame 120 is in a raised position.

In these and other examples, the frame 120 and / or the container 102 may include a locking mechanism (not illustrated) that prevents the frame 120 from rotating upwardly from the cavity 102a without overcoming a retention force and / or actively releasing the locking mechanism. Such a locking mechanism may be in the form of a frictional engagement between components, a tab configured to engage a catch, and the like. Other examples are possible.

Claims

What is Claimed is:

1. A cosmetic product comprising:a container defining a cavity;a removable drawer including a drawer floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a drawer cavity adapted to retain a cosmetic substance, the removable drawer further including a locking member extending from the sidewall; anda frame adapted to be at least partially disposed within the cavity of the container, the frame including a frame floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a first opening and a second opening, the frame further including at least one engaging member extending from the sidewall;wherein the first opening is adapted to expose the cosmetic substance such that it may be collected and removed from the drawer cavity and the second opening is adapted to slidably receive the removable drawer, wherein upon slidably inserting the removable drawer into the second opening of the frame, the locking member engages the at least one engaging member to retain the removable drawer within the frame.

2. The cosmetic product of claim 1, wherein the locking member includes a finger having a nib extending in a generally orthogonal direction to the finger.

3. The cosmetic product of claim 2, wherein the engaging member includes at least one nodule.

4. The cosmetic product of claim 2, wherein the locking member includes an abutment surface.

5. The cosmetic product of claim 4, wherein the abutment surface comprises an upper surface, the upper surface being generally planar.

6. The cosmetic product of claim 5, wherein the at least one engaging member includes a platform, wherein the abutment surface is adapted to abut a portion of the platform when the removable drawer is disposed within the frame.

7. The cosmetic product of claim 6, wherein the abutment surface cooperates with the portion of the platform to restrict movement in a direction out of the cavity.

8. The cosmetic product of claim 1, wherein at least one of the locking member or the at least one engaging member is constructed from a deformable material adapted to flex upon inserting the removable drawer within the frame.

9. The cosmetic product of claim 1, wherein engagement between the locking member and the at least one engaging member generates a tactile feedback indicative of complete coupling between the removable drawer and the frame.

10. A cosmetic product comprising:a container defining a cavity;a removable drawer including a drawer floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a drawer cavity adapted to retain a cosmetic substance, the removable drawer further including an upper ledge extending from the sidewall and a locking member extending from the sidewall; anda frame adapted to be at least partially disposed within the cavity of the container, the frame including a frame floor and a sidewall operably coupled therewith to define a first opening and a second opening, the frame further including an upper rim extending from the sidewall and at least one engaging member extending from the sidewall;wherein the first opening is adapted to expose the cosmetic substance such that it may be collected and removed from the drawer cavity and the second opening is adapted to slidably receive the removable drawer, wherein upon slidably inserting the removable drawer into the second opening of the frame, the locking member and the at least one engaging member form a first point of contact therebetween.

11. The cosmetic product of claim 10, wherein the at least one engaging member includes a platform and the locking member includes an abutment surface, wherein the first point of contact is formed between the abutment surface and a portion of the platform when the removable drawer is disposed within the frame.

12. The cosmetic product of claim 11, wherein the abutment surface cooperates with the portion of the platform to restrict movement in a direction perpendicular to the second opening of the cavity.

13. The cosmetic product of claim 10, wherein upon slidably inserting the removable drawer into the second opening of the frame, the upper ledge of the removable drawer and the upper rim of the frame cooperate to form a second point of contact.

14. The cosmetic product of claim 10, wherein the locking member includes a finger having a nib extending in a generally orthogonal direction to the finger.

15. The cosmetic product of claim 14, wherein the engaging member includes at least one nodule.

16. The cosmetic product of claim 10, wherein at least one of the locking member or the at least one engaging member is constructed from a deformable material adapted to flex upon inserting the removable drawer within the frame.

17. The cosmetic product of claim 10, wherein engagement between the locking member and the at least one engaging member generates a tactile feedback indicative of complete coupling between the removable drawer and the frame.
