[0015] The present description describes various embodiments of systems, apparatuses, devices, and methods for wireless communications related to channel state information configurations.

[0016] Fig. 1 shows a diagram of an example wireless communication system 100 (also called herein a mobile communication system) including a plurality of communication nodes (or just nodes) that are configured to wirelessly communicate with each other. In general, the communication nodes include at least one user device 102 and at least one network device or base station 104. The example wireless communication system 100 in Fig. 1 is shown as including two user devices 102, including a first user device 102(1) and a second user device 102 (2) , and a network device 104. However, various other examples of the wireless communication system 100 that include any of various combinations of one or more user devices 102 and / or one or more network devices 104 may be possible.

[0017] In general, a user device as described herein, such as the user device 102, may include a single electronic device or apparatus, or multiple (e.g., a network of) electronic devices or apparatuses, capable of communicating wirelessly over a network. A user device may comprise or otherwise be referred to as a user terminal, a user terminal device, or a user equipment (UE) . Additionally, a user device may be or include, but not limited to, a mobile device (such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a smart watch, a tablet, a laptop computer, vehicle or other vessel (human, motor, or engine-powered, such as an automobile, a plane, a train, a ship, or a bicycle as non-limiting examples) or a fixed or stationary device, (such as a desktop computer or other computing device that is not ordinarily moved for long periods of time, such as appliances, other relatively heavy devices including Internet of things (IoT) , or computing devices used in commercial or industrial environments, as non-limiting examples) . In various embodiments, a user device 102 may include transceiver circuitry 106 coupled to an antenna 108 to effect wireless communication with the network device 104. The transceiver circuitry 106 may also be coupled to a processor 110, which may also be coupled to a memory 112 or other storage device. The memory 112 may store therein instructions or code that, when read and executed by the processor 110, cause the processor 110 to implement various ones of the methods described herein.

[0018] Additionally, in general, a network device as described herein, such as the network device 104, may include a single electronic device or apparatus, or multiple (e.g., a network of) electronic devices or apparatuses, and may comprise one or more wireless access nodes, base stations, or other wireless network access points capable of communicating wirelessly over a network with one or more user devices and / or with one or more other network devices 104. For example, the network device 104 may comprise a 4G LTE base station, a 5G NR base station, a 5G central-unit base station, a 5G distributed-unit base station, a next generation Node B (gNB) , an enhanced Node B (eNB) , or other similar or next-generation (e.g., 6G) base stations, in various embodiments. A network device 104 may include transceiver circuitry 114 coupled to an antenna 116, which may include an antenna tower 118 in various approaches, to effect wireless communication with the user device 102 or another network device 104. The transceiver circuitry 114 may also be coupled to one or more processors 120, which may also be coupled to a memory 122 or other storage device. The memory 122 may store therein instructions or code that, when read and executed by the processor 120, cause the processor 120 to implement one or more of the methods described herein.

[0019] In various embodiments, two communication nodes in the wireless system 100-such as a user device 102 and a network device 104, two user devices 102 without a network device 104, or two network devices 104 without a user device 102-may be configured to wirelessly communicate with each other in or over a mobile network and / or a wireless access network according to one or more standards and / or specifications. In general, the standards and / or specifications may define the rules or procedures under which the communication nodes can wirelessly communicate, which, in various embodiments, may include those for communicating in millimeter (mm) -Wave bands, and / or with multi-antenna schemes and beamforming functions. In addition or alternatively, the standards and / or specifications are those that define a radio access technology and / or a cellular technology, such as Fourth Generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) , Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) , or New Radio Unlicensed (NR-U) , as non-limiting examples.

[0020] Additionally, in the wireless system 100, the communication nodes are configured to wirelessly communicate signals between each other. In general, a communication in the wireless system 100 between two communication nodes can be or include a transmission or a reception, and is generally both simultaneously, depending on the perspective of a particular node in the communication. For example, for a given communication between a first node and a second node where the first node is transmitting a signal to the second node and the second node is receiving the signal from the first node, the first node may be referred to as a source or transmitting node or device, the second node may be referred to as a destination or receiving node or device, and the communication may be considered a transmission for the first node and a reception for the second node. Of course, since communication nodes in a wireless system 100 can both send and receive signals, a single communication node may be both a transmitting / source node and a receiving / destination node simultaneously or switch between being a source / transmitting node and a destination / receiving node.

[0021] Also, particular signals can be characterized or defined as either an uplink (UL) signal, a downlink (DL) signal, or a sidelink (SL) signal. An uplink signal is a signal transmitted from a user device 102 to a network device 104. A downlink signal is a signal transmitted from a network device 104 to a user device 102. A sidelink signal is a signal transmitted from one user device 102 to another user device 102, or a signal transmitted from one network device 104 to another network device 104. Also, for sidelink transmissions, a first / source user device 102 directly transmits a sidelink signal to a second / destination user device 102 without any forwarding of the sidelink signal to a network device 104. Similarly, a first / source network device 104 directly transmits a sidelink signal to a second / destination network device 104 without any forwarding of the sidelink signal to a user device 102.

[0022] Additionally, at least some signals communicated between communication nodes in the system 100 may be characterized or defined as a data signal or a control signal. In general, a data signal is a signal that includes or carries data, such multimedia data (e.g., voice and / or image data) , and a control signal is a signal that carries control information that configures the communication nodes in certain ways in order to communicate with each other, or otherwise controls how the communication nodes communicate data signals with each other. Also, certain signals may be defined or characterized by combinations of data / control and uplink / downlink / sidelink, including uplink control signals, uplink data signals, downlink control signals, downlink data signals, sidelink control signals, and sidelink data signals.

[0023] For at least some specifications, such as 5G NR, data and control signals are transmitted and / or carried on physical channels. Generally, a physical channel corresponds to a set of time-frequency resources used for transmission of a signal. Different types of physical channels may be used to transmit different types of signals. For example, physical data channels (or just data channels) , also herein called traffic channels, are used to transmit data signals, and physical control channels (or just control channels) are used to transmit control signals. Example types of traffic channels (or physical data channels) include, but are not limited to, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) used to communicate downlink data signals, a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) used to communicate uplink data signals, and a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) used to communicate sidelink data signals. In addition, example types of physical control channels include, but are not limited to, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) used to communicate downlink control signals, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) used to communicate uplink control signals, and a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH) used to communicate sidelink control signals. As used herein for simplicity, unless specified otherwise, a particular type of physical channel is also used to refer to a signal that is transmitted on that particular type of physical channel, and / or a transmission on that particular type of transmission. As an example illustration, a PDSCH refers to the physical downlink shared channel itself, a downlink data signal transmitted on the PDSCH, or a downlink data transmission. Accordingly, a communication node transmitting or receiving a PDSCH means that the communication node is transmitting or receiving a signal on a PDSCH.

[0024] Additionally, for at least some specifications, such as 5G NR, and / or for at least some types of control signals, a control signal that a communication node transmits may include control information comprising the information necessary to enable transmission of one or more data signals between communication nodes, and / or to schedule one or more data channels (or one or more transmissions on data channels) . For example, such control information may include the information necessary for proper reception, decoding, and demodulation of a data signals received on physical data channels during a data transmission, and / or for uplink scheduling grants that inform the user device about the resources and transport format to use for uplink data transmissions. In some embodiments, the control information includes downlink control information (DCI) that is transmitted in the downlink direction from a network device 104 to a user device 102. In other embodiments, the control information includes uplink control information (UCI) that is transmitted in the uplink direction from a user device 102 to a network device 104, or sidelink control information (SCI) that is transmitted in the sidelink direction from one user device 102 (1) to another user device 102 (2) , or from one network device 104 (1) to another network device 104 (2) .

[0025] Fig. 2 shows a flow chart of an example method 200 of wireless communication. At block 202, a network device 104 indicates a channel state information (CSI) configuration to a user device 102. The CSI configuration indicates a plurality of resource settings including a first resource setting and a second resource setting. The first resource setting includes M channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources and the second resource setting includes N CSI-RS resources, where M and N are each integer numbers greater than zero. Also, the M CSI-RS resources in the first resource setting are associated with MP ports and the N CSI-RS resources in the second resource setting are associated with NP ports, where MP and NP are each integer numbers greater than zero. In addition, the M CSI-RS resources in the first resource setting are associated with a first density Md and the N CSI-RS resources in the second resource setting are associated with a second density Nd, where Md and Nd are each positive numbers.

[0026] Fig. 3 shows a flow chart of an example method 300 of wireless communication. At block 302, a user device 102 receives a channel state information (CSI) configuration from a network device 104.

[0027] In some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, at least one of: M is smaller than or equal to N; MP is smaller than or equal to NP; or Md is smaller than or equal to Nd.

[0028] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations of the method 200 and / or the method 300, at least one of: M is smaller than N, and MP is equal to NP; M is smaller than N, MP is equal to NP, and Md is equal to Nd; MP is smaller than NP, and M is equal to N; MP is smaller than NP, M is equal to N, and Md is equal to Nd; Md is smaller than Nd, and M is equal to N; or Md is smaller than Nd, M is equal to N, and MP is equal to NP.

[0064] In some implementations, at least one: M is smaller than or equal to N; MP is smaller than or equal to NP; or Md is smaller than or equal to Nd. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, at least one: M is smaller than N, and MP is equal to NP; M is smaller than N, and MP is equal to NP, and Md is equal to Nd; MP is smaller than NP, and M is equal to N; MP is smaller than NP, and M is equal to N, and Md is equal to Nd; Md is smaller than Nd, and M is equal to N; or Md is smaller than Nd, and M is equal to N, and MP is equal to NP.

[0065] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 may measure the CSI-RS resources in the first resource setting. Based on the measurement of the first resource setting, the user device 102 may apply or use an AI model to predict a channel status for the second resource setting of a CSI-RS. In turn, an overhead of the CSI-RS in the first resource setting may be smaller than that of the second resource setting of the CSI-RS.

[0066] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a whole or an entire set of ports associated with all of the CSI-RS resources in the first resource setting is a subset of the whole or entire set of ports associated with all of the CSI-RS resources in the second resource setting. In some of these implementations, the overhead of the CSI-RS resource (s) in the first resource setting is smaller than that of the second resource setting of a CSI-RS.

[0067] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, Md is equal to Nd, and a resource block (RB) level comb offset of the CSI-RS resource (s) of the first resource setting is the same as that for the CSI-RS resource (s) of the second resource setting. In some of these implementations, performance monitoring may be performed for each corresponding resource block (RB) or subband.

[0068] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, an aggregated resource of the second resource setting for NA (or an NA-number of) ports may be formed by aggregating the N CSI-RS resources with NP ports each, where NA=N·NP. In some implementations, at least one of: M is smaller than NA; or M is smaller than NA, and Md is equal to Nd. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, an aggregated resource of the first resource setting for MA (or an MA-number of) ports is formed by aggregating M CSI-RS resources with MP ports each, where MA=M·MP. In some implementations, at least one: MA is smaller than NA; MA is smaller than NA, and MP is equal to NP; MA is smaller than NA, and M is equal to N; MA is smaller than NA, and MP is equal to NP, and Md is equal to Nd; or MA is smaller than NA, and M is equal to N, and Md is equal to Nd. In some of these implementations, the resource overhead of the first resource setting is smaller than the resource overhead of the second resource setting, but the resource configuration of the first resource setting can be compatible with the resource configuration of the second resource setting. For example, some of the configuration parameters are the same between these two resource settings.

[0069] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the N CSI-RS resources in the second resource setting are configured in KS adjacent slots, where KS is integer number larger than 1, e.g., KS is equal to 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. In some of these implementations, each CSI-RS resource among the N CSI-RS resources are configured in one slot of the KS adjacent slots. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, for the M CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting, each CSI-RS resource among the M CSI-RS resources are configured in one slot of the KS adjacent slots; or each CSI-RS resource among the M CSI-RS resources configured in one slot of the KS adjacent slots are associated with the CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting configured in the same slot.

[0083] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a first report quantity, the user device 102 may determine a reported first quantity based on a prediction determined by the user device 102 based on a channel measurement associated with the first resource setting, for the CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting, where the channel measurement associated with the first resource setting is the channel measurement performed by the user device 102 for the CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting.

[0084] In addition or alternatively, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a first report quantity, the user device 102 may determine the reported first quantity based on first information and second information. The first information is the channel measurement performed by the user device 102 for the CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting, and the second information is the prediction performed by the user device 102, based on the channel measurement associated with the first resource setting, for the CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting.

[0085] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 may have, include, operate with, have access to, and / or be in communication with at least one artificial intelligence (AI) model. In some implementations, the at least one AI model may be referred to herein as an AI model at the user device side or UE side. Also, in general, an AI model may be a component implemented in hardware or a combination of hardware and software, and employ AI technology and / or machine learning (ML) technology such as by using and / or including one or more neural networks to perform one or more functions based on an input (or input data or information) in order to generate an output (or output data or information) . In at least some implementations, an AI model at the UE side is used at least for prediction (or a prediction process) . In one example, the prediction is performed using a measurement of a first plurality of ports (e.g., 32 ports) of CSI-RS to predict a channel status for a second plurality of ports. In some example implementations, the number of the first plurality of ports is more than the number of the second plurality of ports. For example, the first plurality of ports includes 16 or 32 ports and the second plurality of ports includes 64 ports.

[0086] Fig. 4 is a diagram of an example model structure of the user device 102 (or at the UE side) that predicts a channel status for a second plurality of (e.g., 64) ports based on CSI-RS with a first plurality of (e.g., 16) ports. In the example in Fig. 4, the model structure comprises two Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) layers at first, then three Residual Neural Network (Resnet) layers, and then two CNN layers. The input dimensions are {batch size, channel size, number of Resource Block (RB) , number of reception antennas at the UE side, number of transmission antennas at the side of the network device (e.g., base station) 104 for measurement} . The output dimensions are {batch size, channel size, number of RBs, number of reception antennas at the UE side, number of transmission antennas at the side of the network device (e.g., base station) 104 for prediction} .

[0087] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the first report quantity may be or include at least one of: a Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) indicating one or more predicted precoder matrices, one or more predicted PMIs, one or more predicted precoder matrices, one or more predicted codebooks, one or more predicted channel matrices, a predicted Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) , or a predicted Rank Indicator (RI) .

[0088] Fig. 5 is a diagram of an example of prediction at the user device side (also called herein UE side) . As shown in Fig. 5, the network device (e.g., base station) 104 first transmits the CSI-RS of the first resource setting to the user device (e.g., UE) 102. Based on the measurement of the first resource setting, the user device 102 applies or uses an AI model (e.g., an AI model at the UE side) to predict the channel status for the second resource setting. In turn, the user device 102 reports a prediction result (i.e., a result or output of the prediction generated by the AI model) to the network device (e.g., base station) 104.

[0089] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, an AI model at the UE side may be used for prediction and compression. For example, the user device 102 may apply or use the measurement of a first plurality of (e.g., 32) ports of CSI-RS to predict a channel status for a second plurality of (e.g., 64) ports. However, in at least some of these implementations, reduction of the overhead of the channel status for the second plurality of ports may be desirably achieved by compression of the channel status. For example, in some implementations, a first report quantity (irrespective of whether or not an AI model is used) may be or include at least one of: a compressed PMI indicating one or more predicted precoder matrices, one or more compressed precoder matrices, one or more compressed codebooks, or one or more compressed channel matrices.

[0090] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the CSI configuration includes a compression identification (ID) for pairing a UE side model or a UE side processing. Doing so may prevent corresponding base station side processing and UE side processing from being unaligned. Also, in some if these implementations, the compression ID may include at least one of a model ID or a dataset ID.

[0091] To further illustrate using an example, Fig. 6 shows a diagram of an example channel status processing. In the example in Fig. 6, the network device (e.g., base station) 104 transmits a CSI-RS of the first resource setting to the user device (e.g., UE) 102. The user device 102 receives and measures the CSI-RS of the first resource setting. The AI model at the UE side predicts the channel status for the second resource setting. Additionally, the AI model at the UE side compresses the channel status. The user device 102 transmits the prediction result to the network device (e.g., base station) 104, where the prediction result includes the compressed channel status. After receiving the compressed channel status, the AI model of the network device (e.g., base station) 104 (also called herein the AI model at the base station side, the base station side AI model, or the base station side model) reconstructs the channel status.

[0092] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 and the network device (e.g., base station) may align, or may need to align, their understandings on a mapping order of the prediction results. In some of these implementations, the first report quantity is mapped to a prediction report with the following order: the reported first report quantity of the first resource setting is mapped immediately before the reported first report quantity of the second resource setting. In some of these implementations, the reported first report quantity of the first resource setting may be mapped to the prediction report with an increasing order of subband number. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the reported first report quantity of the first resource setting may be mapped to the prediction report with increasing order of layer index. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the reported first report quantity of the second resource setting may be mapped to the prediction report with increasing order of subband number. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the reported first report quantity of the second resource setting may be mapped to the prediction report with increasing order of layer index.

[0093] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 and the network device (e.g., base station) 104 may understand (or may need to understand) a target CSI format, such as the model input of the UE side AI model and the model output of the base station side AI model. Doing so may prevent the network device (e.g., base station) 104 from being unclear or uncertain how to derive the target CSI. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the type of the target CSI associated with the first report quantity may be a channel matrix or an eigenvector of the channel matrix. In some of these implementations, the target CSI associated with the first report quantity is associated with at least one dimension, where at least one dimension size of the at least one dimension is equal to the number of antenna ports of the second resource setting, or NP or NP / 2. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the target CSI associated with the first report quantity is associated with at least two dimensions, where a first dimension size of a first dimension of the at least two dimensions is equal to the number of antenna ports of the second resource setting, or NP or NP / 2, and a second dimension size of a second dimension of the at least two dimensions is equal to the number of subbands. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the target CSI associated with the first report quantity is associated with at least three dimensions, where a first dimension size of a first dimension of the at least three dimensions is equal to the number of antenna ports of the second resource setting, or NP or NP / 2, a second dimension size of a second dimension of the at least three dimensions is equal to the number of subbands, and a third dimension size of a third dimension of the at least three dimensions is equal to two (i.e., one for a real part and another one for an imaginary part of the third dimension) .

[0094] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the first report quantity is applied or used for AI model inference. The CSI-RS of the first resource setting is used for generating the input of an AI model used for the AI model inference. Correspondingly, the user device 102 may receive and measure, or may need to receive and measure, the CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting. The CSI-RS of the second resource setting is used for generating the output of the AI model. Correspondingly, the user device 102 may not receive, or may not need to receive, the CSI-RS of the second resource setting.

[0095] If the CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a first report quantity and the CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating an aperiodic report type, the CSI report configuration is linked to period or semi-persistent resource setting (s) for channel measurement. In other words, if the CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a first report quantity and the CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating an aperiodic report type, the CSI report configuration is not linked to aperiodic resource setting (s) for channel measurement. For aperiodic report, it may need a number of CSI-RS resources from different time instances for channel measurement. In this case, period or semi-persistent resource setting (s) can be configured.

[0096] In addition or alternatively, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising: an indication indicating a first report quantity, an indication indicating an aperiodic report type, and an indication indicating a number of time instances for the first report quantity, the CSI report configuration is linked to one or more periodic or semi-persistent resource settings for channel measurement. In other words, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a first report quantity, an indication indicating an aperiodic report type, and an indication indicating number of time instances for the first report quantity, the CSI report configuration is not linked to aperiodic resource settings for channel measurement.

[0097] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a user device 102 configured with a CSI report configuration supports, or is assumed to support, UE-side CSI prediction.

[0098] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a CSI report configuration may comprise an indication indicating a number of time instances for the first report quantity ktime, where ktime is positive integer number.

[0099] In some implementations, the user device 102 directly reports the output for multiple time instances. Doing so may reduce or minimize inference computation complexity and / or save power consumption since the user device 102 directly performs the inference computation only once instead of splitting the inference computation into multiple instances. Some of these implementations may include at least one of: a reported PMI indicates one or more predicted precoder matrices associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots; the predicted PMI is associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots; the precoder matrices are associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots; the precoder codebook is associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots; the precoder channel matrices is associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots; the predicted CQI is associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots; or the predicted RI is associated with ktime consecutive slot intervals, each with a number of slots.

[0100] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, an AI model at the UE side may also perform modulation functionality. In some of these implementations, the output of the AI model at the UE side may be directly mapped to complex-valued modulation symbols.

[0101] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the reported first report quantity comprises R numbers (where R is a positive integer number) . In some of these implementations, among the R numbers, those numbers with an odd index may be mapped to the real part of the complex-valued modulation symbols, and those numbers with an even index may be mapped to the imaginary part of the complex-valued modulation symbols, or vice versa. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, among the R numbers, a first half of the R numbers may be mapped to the real part of the complex-valued modulation symbols, and a second half of the R numbers may be mapped to the imaginary part of the complex-valued modulation symbols, or vice versa.

[0102] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the reported first report quantity comprises R numbers, i.e., C0, C1, C2, …, CR-1, where R is positive integer number. Some of these implementations includes one of: the complex-valued modulation symbols are C0+j C1, C2+j C3, …, CR-2+j CR-1, where j is the imaginary unit; the complex-valued modulation symbols are j C0+ C1, j C2+C3, …, j CR-2+CR-1, where j is the imaginary unit; the complex-valued modulation symbols are  where j is the imaginary unit; the complex-valued modulation symbols are where j is the imaginary unit; the complex-valued modulation symbols are where j is the imaginary unit; or the complex-valued modulation symbols are where j is the imaginary unit.

[0103] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations including complex-valued modulation symbols, such as those implementations described above, the complex-valued modulation symbols may be further scaled for normalization, e.g., normalization to energy with 1.

[0104] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a second report quantity (e.g., ‘none’ ) , both the first resource setting and the second resource setting are for channel measurement.

[0105] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a second report quantity (e.g., ‘none’ ) , the CSI report configuration is linked to one or two periodic or semi-persistent resource settings for channel measurement.

[0106] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a second report quantity (e.g., ‘none’ ) , the user device 102 does not report any quantity for the CSI report configuration.

[0107] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the second report quantity is applied or used for the user device 102 to collect data for training the AI model or updating the AI model. The user device 102 may receive and measure the CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting to generate the model input of the AI model, and may receive and measure the CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting to generate the label. In some of these implementations, the data for model training and / or updating may be relatively large. Thus, it may not be possible to apply or use aperiodic resource settings for data collection. In addition or alternatively, the collected data is for the UE side AI model, and thus, the user device 102 does not, or does not need to, report the collected data for and / or to the network device (e.g., base station) 104.

[0108] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a first report quantity or a second report quantity, the CSI configuration may comprise one ID (e.g., a first ID) or a plurality (e.g., two) IDs, including a first ID and a second ID. In some implementations where only the first ID is configured, the first ID is associated with a group of CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting. The CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting are among the CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting. In other words, the CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting are a subset of the CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations where both the first ID and the second ID are configured, the first ID and the second ID are associated with the group of CSI-RS resources of the second resource setting and the group of CSI-RS resources of the first resource setting, respectively. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations where the same ID is configured to be associated with different groups of CSI-RS resources, the CSI-RS resources among those different groups of CSI-RS resources have similar or consistent properties, irrespective of when the corresponding resource setting (s) is configured or release.

[0109] In addition or alternatively, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration indicating, an indication indicating a third report quantity, the user device 102 reports a monitoring report to the network device (e.g., base station) 104. In some of these implementations, the monitoring report may include a prediction accuracy indicator, a reconstruction accuracy indicator, or a compression accuracy indicator.

[0110] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations including the third report quantity, the third report quantity is for the user device 102 to report performance monitoring. In general, the user device 102 utilizes or needs a number of CSI-RS resources across different time instances for performance monitoring. Correspondingly, aperiodic resource setting may not be suitable.

[0111] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, if or when the CSI report configuration comprises, or in response to the CSI report configuration comprising, an indication indicating a third report quantity and an indication indicating an aperiodic report type, the CSI report configuration is linked to periodic or semi-persistent resource setting (s) for channel measurement. In other words, if the CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a third report quantity and an indication indicating an aperiodic report type, the CSI report configuration is not linked to aperiodic resource setting (s) for channel measurement.

[0112] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 is configured with a first CSI report configuration and a second CSI report configuration, where the first CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a first report quantity and the second CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a third report quantity, the second CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a configuration ID of the first CSI report configuration, and the second CSI report configuration is linked to the first CSI report configuration by the configuration ID.

[0113] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the network device (e.g., base station) 104 may indicate the number of transmission occasions as Poccasion, where Poccasion is positive integer number. For each of the Poccasion transmission occasions, the latest transmission occasion of the Poccasion transmission occasions is no later than the CSI reference resource corresponding to the CSI report of the second CSI report configuration. The latest report of the first CSI report configuration for linking is no later than the CSI reference resource corresponding to the CSI report of the second CSI report configuration. Such implementations may help to reserve sufficient time for the user device 102 to process the monitoring report.

[0114] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, in order for the user device 102 to have sufficient time to process a monitoring report, the timeline of a downlink control channel triggering a monitoring report may follow at least one of the following schemes.

[0129] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 determines a first predicted performance metric for each frequency unit, based on the prediction performed by the user device 102 using the channel measurement corresponding to the first CSI report configuration. In addition or alternatively, the user device 102 determines a second performance metric (e.g., a non-predicted performance metric or a measured performance metric) for each frequency unit, based on the CSI-RS resource (s) in the resource set for channel measurement for the report corresponding to the second CSI report configuration. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 calculates the monitoring metric according at least to the first predicted performance metric and the second performance metric. In some of these implementations, the monitoring report includes a quantized monitoring metric. For example, the monitoring metric is quantized to form the quantized monitoring metric.

[0133] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, when a user device 102 calculates the monitoring metric according to at least the first predicted performance metric and the second performance metric, the user device 102 may calculate: a monitoring metric for each layer, a monitoring metric for the first layer, a monitoring metric for the strongest layer, a monitoring metric for the best layer, a monitoring metric for all layers jointly.

[0135] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a monitoring metric may be calculated according to one or more of the following ways.

[0136] In a first way, the user device 102 may calculate the monitoring metric as In some implementations of the first way,  is the first predicted performance metric averaged over all the frequency units, and / or  is the precoder represented by first predicted performance metric averaged over all the frequency units, and / or is the channel matrix represented by first predicted performance metric averaged over all the frequency units. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations of the first way, w is the second performance metric averaged over all the frequency units, or w is the precoder represented by second performance metric averaged over all the frequency units, or w is the channel matrix represented by second performance metric averaged over all the frequency units.

[0147] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the baseline metric is SGCS2, where the calculation of SGCS2 is the same as the calculation of SGCS1 except that is replaced by and is replaced by

[0148] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations,  may be the third performance metric averaged over all the frequency units, or may be the precoder represented by the third performance metric averaged over all the frequency units, or may be the channel matrix represented by the third performance metric averaged over all the frequency units.

[0149] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations,  may be the third performance metric for the kth frequency unit, or may be the precoder represented by the third performance metric for the kth frequency unit, or may be the channel matrix represented by the third performance metric for the kth frequency unit.

[0150] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations,  may be the third performance metric for the kth frequency unit for a layer, or may be the precoder represented by the third performance metric for the kth frequency unit for a layer, or  may be the channel matrix represented by the third performance metric for the kth frequency unit for a layer.

[0151] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations,  may be the third predicted performance metric for the kth layer averaged over all frequency units, or may be the precoder represented by the third performance metric for the kth layer averaged over all frequency units, or may be the channel matrix represented by the third predicted performance metric for the kth layer averaged over all frequency units.

[0153] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a report of the second CSI report configuration is linked to a report of the first CSI report configuration (i.e., for a report of the second CSI report configuration, there is a linked report of the first CSI report configuration) if or when a frequency unit of the first CSI report configuration has a minimal frequency offset that is no larger than a threshold, from the frequency unit of the second CSI report configuration. In some of these implementations, the frequency unit is a subband, a resource block (RB) , a resource block group (RBG) , or a precoding resource block group (PRBG) . In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the threshold may be indicated by the network device (e.g., base station) 104, indicated by the user device 102, or predefined.

[0154] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a monitoring report may be reported with enhanced flexibility, and / or a monitoring report may be reported to support enhanced flexible performance monitoring according to one or more of the following schemes. In a first scheme, when the second CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicting a semi-persistent report type, the first CSI report configuration may not comprise an indication indicting a periodic report type. In other words, when the second CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicting a semi-persistent report type, the first CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicting an aperiodic report type or a semi-persistent report type. In a second scheme, when the second CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicting an aperiodic report type, the first CSI report configuration may not comprise an indication indicting a periodic report type or semi-persistent report type. In other words, when the second CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicting a semi-persistent report type, the first CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicting an aperiodic report type.

[0155] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, different types of AI models on different user devices (e.g., user device 102 (1) and user device 102 (2) may apply different processing units. Correspondingly, some user devices 102 may be equipped with different processing units, such as different graphics processing units (GPU) , which may perform similar functions with different performance metrics. Even so, the same type of processing unit (e.g., the same GPU) on different user devices 102 may be differently configured to operate differently. For example, suppose two GPUs of the same type on different user devices 102. One of the GPUs may be optimized to handle latency stringent services while the other of the GPUs may be optimized to handle latency relaxed services.

[0157] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a first set of CPU parameters includes at least the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in in a component carrier and the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in across all component carriers for the first CPU, denoted as CPU1. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a second set of CPU parameters includes at least the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in  in a component carrier and the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in across all component carriers for the second CPU, denoted as CPU2.

[0158] In addition or alternatively in some implementations, the user device 102 may determine whether to update a CSI report with the first report quantity according to at least the first set of CPU parameters, the second set of CPU parameters, OCPU, 1 and OCPU, 2. For example, the user device 102 may not update the CSI report if the remaining CPU1 or the remaining CPU2 is not sufficient for the processing of the CSI report.

[0159] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, CPU1 may correspond to a central processing unit, and CPU2 may correspond to a GPU.

[0160] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 may indicate, and / or the network device (e.g., base station) 104 may receive, three sets of CSI Processing Unit (CPU) parameters for three CPUs, including one set of CPU parameters per one CPU. In some of these implementations, a first set of CPU parameters includes at least the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in in a component carrier and the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in  across all component carriers for the first CPU (denoted as CPU1) . In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the second set of CPU parameters includes at least the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in  in a component carrier and the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in across all component carriers for the second CPU (denoted as CPU2) . In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the third set of CPU parameters includes at least the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in in a component carrier and the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations in across all component carriers for the second CPU (denoted as CPU3) .

[0161] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 may indicate one of the second CPU or the third CPU for the CSI report with the first report quantity. In other implementations, the user device 102 may indicate one of the second set of CPU parameters or the third set of CPU parameters for the CSI report with the first report quantity.

[0162] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 may indicate the number of occupied CPUs for a CSI report with the first report quantity for the first CPU as OCPU, 1 and indicate the number of occupied CPUs for the CSI report with the first report quantity for a selected CPU as OCPU, s, where OCPU, 1 and OCPU, sare non-negative integer numbers. In some of these implementations, the selected CPU includes the second CPU or the third CPU of the three CPUs.

[0163] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the user device 102 may determine whether to update a CSI report with the first report quantity according to at least the first set of CPU parameters, the selected set of CPU parameter, OCPU, 1 and OCPU, s. For example, the user device 102 may not update, and / or determine not to update, the CSI report if or when the remaining CPU1 or remaining CPU2 (selected CPU) is not sufficient for the processing of the CSI report.

[0164] In any of various of these implementations, CPU1 may correspond to a central processing unit, and CPU2 and CPU3 may correspond to GPUs, such as GPUs with different latency properties.

[0165] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, for an aperiodic CSI-RS, if or when a corresponding first CSI report configuration comprises an indication indicating a first report quantity, and the first CSI report configuration is linked to a second CSI report configuration that comprises an indication indicating a third report quantity, the aperiodic CSI-RS resource is active in a duration starting from the end of the downlink control channel containing the request for the report of the corresponding first CSI report configuration, and ending at the scheduled uplink channel containing the report associated with the report of the linked second CSI report configuration.

[0166] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, CSI reports may each be associated with respective a priority value. In some of these implementations, a first CSI report has priority over a second CSI report if or when a first priority value associated with the first report is lower than a second priority value associated with the second report.

[0167] In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a given priority value associated with a CSI report may be determined according to an integer number multiplied by a maximum number of serving cells. In some of these implementations, the same integer number used to determine priority values for CSI reports carrying the first report quantity is used to determine priority values for CSI reports carrying the third report quantity.

[0168] The description and accompanying drawings above provide specific example embodiments and implementations. The described subject matter may, however, be embodied in a variety of different forms and, therefore, covered or claimed subject matter is intended to be construed as not being limited to any example embodiments set forth herein. A reasonably broad scope for claimed or covered subject matter is intended. Among other things, for example, subject matter may be embodied as methods, devices, components, systems, or non-transitory computer-readable media for storing computer codes. Accordingly, embodiments may, for example, take the form of hardware, software, firmware, storage media or any combination thereof. For example, the method embodiments described above may be implemented by components, devices, or systems including memory and processors by executing computer codes stored in the memory.

[0169] Throughout the specification and claims, terms may have nuanced meanings suggested or implied in context beyond an explicitly stated meaning. Likewise, the phrase “in one embodiment / implementation” as used herein does not necessarily refer to the same embodiment and the phrase “in another embodiment / implementation” as used herein does not necessarily refer to a different embodiment. It is intended, for example, that claimed subject matter includes combinations of example embodiments in whole or in part.

[0170] In general, terminology may be understood at least in part from usage in context. For example, terms, such as “and” , “or” , or “and / or, ” as used herein may include a variety of meanings that may depend at least in part on the context in which such terms are used. Typically, “or” if used to associate a list, such as A, B or C, is intended to mean A, B, and C, here used in the inclusive sense, as well as A, B or C, here used in the exclusive sense. In addition, the term “one or more” as used herein, depending at least in part upon context, may be used to describe any feature, structure, or characteristic in a singular sense or may be used to describe combinations of features, structures or characteristics in a plural sense. Similarly, terms, such as “a, ” “an, ” or “the, ” may be understood to convey a singular usage or to convey a plural usage, depending at least in part upon context. In addition, the term “based on” may be understood as not necessarily intended to convey an exclusive set of factors and may, instead, allow for existence of additional factors not necessarily expressly described, again, depending at least in part on context.

[0171] Reference throughout this specification to features, advantages, or similar language does not imply that all of the features and advantages that may be realized with the present solution should be or are included in any single implementation thereof. Rather, language referring to the features and advantages is understood to mean that a specific feature, advantage, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present solution. Thus, discussions of the features and advantages, and similar language, throughout the specification may, but do not necessarily, refer to the same embodiment.

[0172] Furthermore, the described features, advantages and characteristics of the present solution may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments. One of ordinary skill in the relevant art will recognize, in light of the description herein, that the present solution can be practiced without one or more of the specific features or advantages of a particular embodiment. In other instances, additional features and advantages may be recognized in certain embodiments that may not be present in all embodiments of the present solution.
