Description

TITLE OF THE INVENTIONPORTABLE AND DISPOSABLE PET WASTE BAG DISPENSER CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] This application claims benefit of US patent application Serial No. 63 / 777,191, filed on March 25, 2025.FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention pertains to portable pet waste bag dispensers, in particular dog or cat poop bag dispensers.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Known portable dog poop bag dispensers are small, convenient devices designed to assist pet owners in managing dog waste while on the go. While lightweight, these known portable dispensers are typically made from durable materials such as plastic to withstand regular use. However, while portable dispensers are designed to be lightweight and compact, this can sometimes compromise their durability, especially refillable dispensers. Frequent use or exposure to the elements can lead to wear and tear, causing known portable dispensers to break or malfunction, leaving pet owners without bags when needed.

[0004] Known portable dispensers usually feature a simple mechanism, such as a screw cap or snap closure, for tedious refilling with new rolls of bags. This design does not facilitate quick and hassle-free replacement when bags run out. Also, portable dispensers often require specific bag sizes or types, which may not be readily available in all locations. This can create inconvenience for pet owners who need to ensure they have compatible refills. Furthermore, high-quality portable dispensers can be costly, which may deter some pet owners from purchasing them.

[0005] Finally, dispensers on the market release the poop bags in a manner where the consumer needs to pull and tear to access the poop bags, thereby adding another complexity to the task.

[0006] In view of the above issues, there is a need in the market for a portable pet waste bag dispenser that can address the above-identified issues of known portable dispensers.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONIn order to address the above and other drawbacks, there is provided a portable and disposable pet waste bag dispenser, comprising: an outer body having an outer surface defining an outer access opening; an inner body received within the outer body and defining a compartment configured to house one or more pet waste bags; the inner body having an inner surface defining an inner access opening; wherein the inner body is movable relative to the outer body between a closed position in which a portion of the inner body occludes the outer access opening and anopen position in which the portion of the inner body is positioned to clearthe outer access opening to permit access to the compartment through the outer access opening and inner access opening.

[0007] In embodiments, the outer body comprises an outer cylinder with a closed top, and the inner body comprise an inner cylinder with a closed bottom, the inner cylinder being received within the outer cylinder.

[0008] In embodiments, the inner cylinder is rotatable relative to the outer cylinder between the closed position and the open position.

[0009] In embodiments, the inner body is rotatable about a longitudinal axis of the outer body.

[0010] In embodiments, an axial bottom edge portion of the inner cylinder extends beyond an axial bottom edge portion of the outer cylinder, the axial bottom edge portion of the inner cylinder being accessible to a user and being rotatable by the user to rotate the inner cylinder relative to the outer cylinder between the closed position and the open position.

[0011] In embodiments, in the closed position, the portion of the inner body and the outer body are in a close-fitting, overlapping relationship at the outer access opening to restrict airflow through the outer access opening.

[0012] In embodiments, at least one of the one or more pet waste bags is scented, and the closefitting, overlapping relationship inhibits release of scent through the outer access opening when the dispenser is in the closed position.

[0013] In embodiments, the inner and outer cylinders are made of cardboard or similar disposable material.

[0014] In embodiments, the outer cylinder comprises a peripheral channel, and wherein the inner cylinder comprises a tab received in the peripheral channel to retain the inner cylinder to the outer cylinder while permitting rotation of the inner cylinder relative to the outer cylinder between the closed position and the open position.

[0015] In embodiments, there is provided a kit comprising a portable pet waste bag dispenser, comprising: an outer body having an outer surface defining an outer access opening; an inner body received within the outer body and defining a compartment configured to house one or more pet waste bags; the inner body having an inner surface defining an inner access opening; wherein the inner body is movable relative to the outer body between a closed position in which a portion of the inner body occludes the outer access opening and an open position in which the portion of the inner body is positioned to clear the outer access opening to permit access to the compartment through the outer access opening and inner access opening; and a plurality of pet waste bags received within the inner body.

[0016] In embodiments, the bags are interleaved such that a leading portion of each bag is positioned to engage a trailing portion of an adjacent bag, whereby removal of a dispensed bag causes a portion of the next bag to be pulled at least partially through the outer access opening, without requiring a user to tear a portion of the dispensed bag.

[0017] In embodiments, at least one of the pluralities of pet the waste bags comprise an inner fold that is configured to fit between an index finger and middle finger of a hand, thereby defining a scoop structure.

[0018] In embodiments, the pet waste bag comprises an access end and a closed end, wherein the closed end is formed by two end sides of the bag being folded together along a longitudinal axis of the bag and fused together along an orthogonal line, thereby defining an inner fold.

[0019] In embodiments, the dispenser comprises a twistable bottom that allows a user to release a fresh poop bag by twisting a knob or dial. In use, as the user twists the bottom, it activates a mechanism that pushes out a fresh poop bag from the dispenser, ensuring that the next bag is always ready to be used without any struggle or mess.

[0020] In embodiments, the twist bottom is designed to secure a protective slide-over panel that locks in odors and prevents the scent of the bags from escaping when not in use. This ensures that the bags remain fresh and sanitary, even after repeated use, and protects the bags from environmental elements.

[0021] In embodiments, the center of each bag may feature a customer-made die-cut pattern, which facilitates smooth and easy pull-out of the bags. This design element minimizes the effort needed to grab a new bag and ensures it remains easy to pull without tearing or creating frustration for the user.

[0022] Advantageously, the dispenser's shape offers a compact, aesthetically pleasing design.

[0023] In embodiments, each dispenser contains about 50 or 80 bags, lasting approximately five to six weeks, or about two bags per day.

[0024] In embodiments, a user may purchase the container pre-filled with about 50 or 80 poop bags. The container is preferably made from 100% recyclable carton, so when it is empty, a user can simply dispose of it and replace it with a new dispenser. Each dispenser may come in a different color and scent, such as blue and watermelon breeze scent, orange and tangy tangerine scent, red and cherry pop scent, yellow-green and citrus burst scent.

[0025] In embodiments, the dispenser comprises two parts that snap or lock into place. In use, a user twists the bottom and opens the dispenser, giving access to the poop bags. The bags are dispensed like tissues. A user pulls one out at a time, and the next bag is ready for use. When the user is finished taking out bags, the user can close the dispenser to trap odors inside thedispenser.

[0026] Advantageously, a feature of the dispenser is its durability. It can be made fairly rigid out of cardboard or other similar disposable material.

[0027] In embodiments, the dispensed includes an adjustable attachment, such as a carabiner, allowing a user to secure it to a leash, backpack, or anywhere else convenient while walking a dog or cat.

[0028] In embodiments, the dispenser measures approximately 5 % inches high and 2 % inches wide, and is configured to hold about 50 or 80 bags.

[0029] Advantageously, unlike traditional poop bag dispensers that require constant refilling, the dispenser may be completely disposable. The dispenser offers ultimate convenience on the go, because when it is empty, a user simply throws it away and start fresh with a new dispenser. In addition, because the dispenser may be made from 100% recyclable cardboard, it is environmentally friendly, just like tossing an empty tissue box.

[0030] Other objects, advantages and features of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading of the following non-restrictive description of specific embodiments thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0053] The present invention is illustrated in further details by the following non-limiting examples.

[0054] Referring now to Figures 1 to 14, there is shown a portable and disposable pet waste bag dispenser 10, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The dispenser 10 is generally cylindrical in shape but may take other shapes as those skilled in the art will understand. The dispenser 10 includes an outer body, such as an outer cylinder 12 with a closed top 13. The side of the outer cylinder 12 has an outer surface defining an outer access opening 14. The dispenser 10 also includes an inner body, such as cylinder 16 with a closed bottom 19, received within the outer body 12 and defining a compartment configured to house one or more pet wastebags B. The inner body 16 has an inner surface defining an inner access opening 17’ (shown in Figure 15).

[0055] In use, the inner body 16 is movable relative to the outer body 12 between a closed position, as shown in Figure 1, in which a portion 18 of the inner body 16 occludes the outer access opening 14 and an open position, as shown in Figure 8, in which the portion 18 of the inner body is positioned to clear the outer access opening 14 to permit access to the compartment through the outer access opening 14 and inner access opening 17’.

[0056] Referring back to Figures 1 and 8, the inner cylinder 16 is rotatable relative to the outer cylinder 12 about a common longitudinal axis of the cylinders 12, 16, from the closed position to the open position in which a waste bag B is accessible, by rotation in the direction of arrow 20 (anticlockwise when viewed from above). Conversely, the inner cylinder 16 is rotatable relative to the outer cylinder 12 from the open position to the closed position, by rotation in the direction of arrow 22 (clockwise when viewed from above), such that the access opening 14 is occluded by the portion 18 of the inner body 16.

[0057] In other words, the inner cylinder 16 is rotatable within the outer cylinder 12 from the closed position, in which the portion 18 of the inner cylinder 12 occludes the outer access opening 14 and the open position, in which the portion 18 of inner cylinder 12 is moved away from the outer access opening 14 so as to provide access to the pet waste bags B through the inner access opening 17’.

[0058] As can best seen in Figure 15, in the open position, the outer access opening 14, 14’ faces the inner access opening 17’ in order for a user to easily remove the bags. Preferably, the outer access opening 14, 14’ is of a cross-shape axially longer shape and the inner access opening 17’ is of an axially oval shape.

[0059] As persons skilled in the art will understand, other configurations may operate in a similar manner to achieve the same result. For example, instead of being rotatable, the inner cylinder 16 may be movable longitudinally relative to the outer cylinder 12 to provide a telescoping movement between the open and closed positions.

[0060] In embodiments, the axial bottom edge portion 24 of the inner cylinder 16 extends beyond an axial bottom edge portion 26 of the outer cylinder 12. The axial bottom edge portion 24 of the inner cylinder 12. The axial bottom edge portion 24 of the inner cylinder 16 being accessible to a user and being rotatable by the user to rotate the inner cylinder 16 relative to the outer cylinder 12 between the closed position and the open position.

[0061] In embodiments, the portion 18 of the inner body 16 and the outer body 12 are in a closefitting, overlapping relationship at the outer access opening 14 to restrict airflow through the outer access opening 14. This configuration is particularly advantageous when scented bags are used, since scent may escape and become bothersome to users if the outer access opening 14 remains open for an extended period. Accordingly, when the dispenser 10 is in the closed position, the close-fitting, overlapping relationship inhibits release of scent through the outer access opening 14.

[0062] As persons skilled in the art will understand, a more airtight close-fitting / overlapping interface will generally improve scent containment, because it further reduces air exchange through the outer access opening 14 when closed.

[0063] In some embodiments, the close-fitting, overlapping relationship provides a substantially airtight closure in the closed position, thereby further reducing air exchange through the outer access opening 14 and improving retention of scent when scented bags are stored in the dispenser 10.

[0064] In embodiments, the outer cylinder 12 includes a peripheral channel 28 extending along a peripheral portion of the outer cylinder 12 and of about the same width than the outer access opening 14. The inner cylinder 16 includes a tab 30 received in the channel 28 to retain the inner cylinder 16 to the outer cylinder 12 while permitting rotation of the inner cylinder 16 relative to the outer cylinder 12 between the closed position and the open position.

[0065] In embodiments, the outer cylinder 12 and inner cylinder 16 are made of cardboard or similar disposable material.

[0066] Referring to Figure 15, there are shown components of a portable dispenser 10’, according to another preferred embodiment. In this example, about 50 to 80 poop bags B are laid flat then rolled together and placed inside the inner cylinder 16’ via the top thereof.

[0067] Preferably, the bags B are interleaved such that a leading portion of each bag is positioned to engage a trailing portion of an adjacent bag, whereby removal of a dispensed bag causes a portion of the next bag to be pulled at least partially through the outer access opening 14, without requiring a user to tear a portion of the dispensed bag.

[0068] Similarly, as explained above, the dispenser 10’ includes an outer body, such as an outer cylinder 12’, having an outer surface defining an outer access opening 14’. The dispenser 10’ also includes an inner body, such as cylinder 16’, received within the outer body 12’ and defining a compartment configured to house one or more pet waste bags B. The inner body 16’ has an inner surface defining an inner access opening 17’.

[0069] Similarly, as explained above, the outer cylinder 12’ includes a peripheral channel 28’ extending along a peripheral portion of the outer cylinder 12’ and of about the same width than the outer access opening 14’. The inner cylinder 16’ includes a tab 30’ received in the channel 28’ to retain the inner cylinder 16’ to the outer cylinder 12’ while permitting rotation of the innercylinder 16’ relative to the outer cylinder 12’ between the closed position and the open position.

[0070] Referring to Figure 16, there is shown a pet waste bag B in a closed and folded position, according to a preferred embodiment. The folded pet waste bag B is generally rectangular in shape. The pet waste bag B may be typically made from plastic films selected for strength, puncture resistance, and cost. The bag B may be made of polyethylene (PE) such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is relatively thin but strong, and provides good tear resistance for its thickness. As persons skilled in the art will understand, the bags B may be made of other materials such as compostable plastics, including polylactic acid, starch-based blends and / or compostable polymers.

[0071] Referring now to figures 17 to 22, in addition to Figure 16, the bag B has an access end A and closed end C. The bag B measures about 12 inches long along the longitudinal axis thereof from the access end A to the closed end C. The access end A defines an opening that is about 8.5 inches wide when pushed flat. When pulled open on all sides, the access end A defines and generally circular opening that is about 6 inches in diameter. The closed end C measures about 4 inches wide. This gives the bag B as distinctive shape as shown for example in Figure 17.

[0072] The closed end C is formed by two end sides of the bag B folded together along a longitudinal axis of the bag and fused together along an orthogonal line L, thereby defining an inner fold F that may be used as a thong that fits between the index and middle finger of a hand for improved control.

[0073] Once a user inserts its hand H inside the bag B, the bag B conforms to the hand H to form a sturdy shovel shape or scoop structure shape S. The scoop shape S forms a deep well W that ensures a clean and secure pickup of poop each time.

[0074] As best seed in Figure 22, the fold F is configured to be used as a thong that fits between the index and middle finger of a hand for improved control. The thong provides the user with a snug and secure fit, so the bag B moves more closely as the hand moves. The bag B uses the natural shape of the hand to create a solid structure. The bag B is comfortable, efficient, and fits right in a pocket.

[0075] Traditional bags are flimsy and awkward. The bag B is comparatively advantageous as it turns the hand of a user into a build in shovel. It then becomes easier to pickup instead of fumbling around trying to find the right angle with a traditional bag. The bag B may be tapered to give the user maximum control. A user needs to slide in its hand inside the bag B, lock the thong between its fingers, and scoop up.

[0076] By turning a user hand into a tool, there is no need to use a separate scooper. A user gets the precision of using its hand with the strength of a dedicated scooper.

[0077] Twist Bottom Mechanism

[0078] The portable dispenser 10 features a twistable or rotatable bottom portion that allows the user to release a fresh poop bag by twisting a knob or dial. As the user twists or rotates the bottom portion, it activates a mechanism that pushes out a fresh poop bag from the dispenser, ensuring that the next bag is always ready to be used without any struggle or mess.

[0079] Scent Protection and Preservation

[0080] The twist bottom is configured to secure a protective slide-over panel that locks in odors and prevents the scent of the bags from escaping when not in use. This ensures that the bags remain fresh and sanitary, even after repeated use, and protects the bags from environmental elements.

[0081] Die-Cut Center for Easy Pull-Out

[0082] The center of each bag B may include a customer-made die-cut pattern, which facilitates smooth and easy pull-out of the bags. This design element minimizes the effort needed to grab a new bag and ensures it remains easy to pull without tearing or creating frustration for the user.

[0083] In this configuration, the bags are interleaved such that a leading portion of each bag is positioned to engage a trailing portion of an adjacent bag, whereby removal of a dispensed bag causes a portion of the next bag to be pulled at least partially through the outer access opening 14, 14’.

[0084] Durable and Secure Construction

[0085] The outer cylinder 12 and the inner cylinder 16 of the dispenser 10 may made of sturdy, eco-friendly materials to withstand outdoor conditions. The user can securely place the dispenser 10 in various locations (i.e., on a leash, in a park, at home) without worrying about the dispenser 10 malfunctioning or falling apart.

[0086] Compact, Travel-Friendly Design

[0087] The dispenser's shape may have a compact and aesthetically pleasing design.

[0088] The dispenser 10 is small enough to be carried easily or stored in a vehicle or home, and the twist bottom mechanism makes it versatile for a variety of use cases.

[0089] Convenience

[0090] The twistable bottom makes bag dispensing quick and effortless, eliminating the frustration of trying to remove a bag manually.

[0091] Odor Control

[0092] The protective slide-over panel ensures that odors are sealed in when not in use, keepingboth the bags and surrounding area fresh.

[0093] Hygiene

[0094] The die-cut design makes the bags easier to pull out without contaminating the rest of the rolls or getting tangled.

[0095] Durability and Travel Friendly

[0096] The dispenser is configured for outdoor environments, it is compact and portable enough to be used anywhere, from walking the dog to camping trips.

[0097] Advantageously, the dispenser offers improved convenience, hygiene, and odor control while maintaining the integrity of the bags.

[0098] Multiple Size Options

[0099] The dispenser can be made for different sizes of poop bags (small, large, scented, or unscented) with adjustable settings.

[0100] Smart Tech Integration

[0101] In embodiments, a tracking or reminder system is configured to notify the user when it is time to reorder more bags or when their supply is running low.

[0102] Eco-Friendly Materials

[0103] The dispenser cylinders can be made from biodegradable or recyclable materials, catering to environmentally conscious consumers.
