or dual connectivity (DC) where a user equipment (UE) is configured with multiple frequency bands to communicate with the network. Some band combinations may support simultaneous reception and transmission (Rx-Tx) . It has been identified that there is a need for enhancements to increase the spectral efficiency when using simultaneous Rx-Tx.SummarySome example embodiments are related to an apparatus having memory coupled to processing circuitry, the processing circuitry configured to generate, for transmission to a network, user equipment (UE) capability information comprising an indication that a UE supports simultaneous reception and transmission (Rx-Tx) for a band combination and rank 4 downlink multiple input multiple output (MIMO) for the band combination and perform simultaneous Rx-Tx on the band combination.Other example embodiments are related to a method for generating, for transmission to a network, user equipment (UE) capability information comprising an indication that a UE supports simultaneous reception and transmission (Rx-Tx) for a band combination and rank 4 downlink multiple input multiple output (MIMO) for the band combination and performing simultaneous Rx-Tx on the band combination.Brief Description of the DrawingsFig. 1 shows an example network arrangement according to various example embodiments.Fig. 2 shows an example UE according to various example embodiments.Fig. 3 shows an example base station according to various example embodiments.Fig. 4 shows a signaling diagram for UE capability information according to various example embodiments.Detailed DescriptionThe example embodiments may be further understood with reference to the following description and the related appended drawings, wherein like elements are provided with the same reference numerals. The example embodiments introduce enhancements for simultaneous reception and transmission (Rx-Tx) .The example embodiments are described with regard to a UE. However, reference to a UE is merely provided for illustrative purposes. The example embodiments may be utilized with any electronic component that may establish a connection to a network and is configured with the hardware, software, and / or firmware to exchange information and data with the network. Therefore, the UE as described herein is used to represent any electronic component.The example embodiments are also described with reference to a Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) network. However, the example embodiments may also be implemented in other types of networks, including but not limited to legacy networks or future evolutions of the cellular protocol (e.g., 5G-Advanced, 6G, 7G, etc. ) capable of performing wireless operations.The example embodiments are further described with regard to band combinations that may be used for carrier aggregation (CA) and / or dual connectivity (DC) . Both CA and DC relate to the UE being configured with a plurality of component carriers (CCs) . Each CC may represent a channel that facilitates communication between the UE and the network over a particular frequency band.The example embodiments are described with respect to a band combination including frequency band n40 (e.g., 2.3 giga hertz (GHz) band) and frequency band n41 (e.g., 2.5 GHz band) . This band combination is only used as an example and the example embodiments may be used with any band combination.Some band combinations may support simultaneous Rx-Tx. According to one aspect, the example embodiments introduce enhancements for capability signaling that may increase the spectral efficiency when using simultaneous Rx-Tx. In another aspect, the example embodiments introduce enhancements related to maximum sensitivity degradation (MSD) requirements for simultaneous Rx-Tx. Each of the enhancements introduced herein will be described in detail below.Fig. 1 shows an example network arrangement 100 according to various example embodiments. The example network arrangement 100 includes a UE 110. The UE 110 may be any type of electronic component that is configured to communicate via a network, e.g., mobile phones, tablet computers, desktop computers, smartphones, phablets, embedded devices, wearables, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, etc. An actual network arrangement may include any number of UEs being used by any number of users. Thus, the example of a single UE 110 is merely provided for illustrative purposes.The UE 110 may be configured to communicate with one or more networks. In the example of the network arrangement 100, the network with which the UE 110 may wirelessly communicate is a 5G NR radio access network (RAN) 120. However, the UE 110 may also communicate with other types of networks (e.g., sixth generation (6G) RAN, 5G cloud RAN, a next generation RAN (NG-RAN) , a long-term evolution (LTE) RAN, a legacy cellular network, a wireless local area network (WLAN) , etc. ) and the UE 110 may also communicate with networks over a wired connection. With regard to the example embodiments, the UE 110 may establish a connection with the 5G NR RAN 120. Therefore, the UE 110 may have at least a 5G chipset to communicate with the 5G NR RAN 120. The UE 110 may also have other chipsets to communicate with other types of RANs, e.g., LTE chipset, ISM chipset, etc.The 5G NR RAN 120 may be a portion of a cellular network that may be deployed by a network carrier (e.g., Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. ) . The 5G NR RAN 120 may include base stations or access nodes (Node Bs, eNodeBs, HeNBs, eNBS, gNBs, gNodeBs, macrocells, microcells, small cells, femtocells, etc. ) that are configured to send and receive traffic from UEs that are equipped with the appropriate cellular chip set. As used herein, the term “base station, ” “access node, ” “access point, ” or the like may describe equipment that provides the radio baseband functions for data and / or voice connectivity between a network and one or more users. These access nodes may be referred to as BS, gNBs, RAN nodes, eNBs, NodeBs, RSUs, TRxPs or TRPs, and so forth, and may comprise ground stations (e.g., terrestrial access points) or satellite stations providing coverage within a geographic area (e.g., a cell) . In fact, in some embodiments, a UE, such as UE 110 described herein, may function as an access point. In one example, the 5G NR RAN 120 includes the base station 120A which may be any appropriate base station or cell deployed in the 5G NR RAN 120 (e.g., Node Bs, eNodeBs, HeNBs, eNBs, gNBs, gNodeBs, macrocells, microcells, small cells, femtocells, etc. ) .Any association procedure may be performed for the UE 110 to connect to the 5G NR RAN 120. For example, as discussed above, the 5G NR RAN 120 may be associated with a particular network carrier where the UE 110 and / or the user thereof has a contract and credential information (e.g., stored on a SIM card) . Upon detecting the presence of the 5G NR RAN 120, the UE 110 may transmit the corresponding credential information to associate with the 5G NR RAN 120. More specifically, the UE 110 may associate with a specific cell (e.g., the base station 120A) .The network arrangement 100 also includes a cellular core network 130, the Internet 140, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) 150, and a network services backbone 160. The cellular core network 130 manages the traffic that flows between the cellular network and the Internet 140. The IMS 150 may be generally described as an architecture for delivering multimedia services to the UE 110 using the IP protocol. The IMS 150 may communicate with the cellular core network 130 and the Internet 140 to provide the multimedia services to the UE 110. The network services backbone 160 is in communication either directly or indirectly with the Internet 140 and the cellular core network 130. The network services backbone 160 may be generally described as a set of components (e.g., servers, network storage arrangements, etc. ) that implement a suite of services that may be used to extend the functionalities of the UE 110 in communication with the various networks.Fig. 2 shows an example UE 110 according to various example embodiments. The UE 110 will be described with regard to the network arrangement 100 of Fig. 1. The UE 110 may represent any electronic device and may include a processor 205, a memory arrangement 210, a display device 215, an input / output (I / O) device 220, a transceiver 225, and other components 230. The other components 230 may include, for example, Rx chains, Tx chains, antennas, an audio input device, an audio output device, a battery that provides a limited power supply, a data acquisition device, ports to electrically connect the UE 110 to other electronic devices, sensors to detect conditions of the UE 110, etc.The processor 205 may be configured to execute a plurality of engines for the UE 110. For example, the engines may include a simultaneous Rx-Tx engine 235. The simultaneous Rx-Tx engine 235 may perform operations related to the enhancements introduced herein such as, but not limited to, generating UE capability information for simultaneous Rx-Tx and applying MSD requirements for simultaneous Rx-Tx.The above referenced engine 235 being an application (e.g., programs) executed by the processor 205 is only an example. The functionality associated with the engine may also be represented as a separate incorporated component of the UE 110 or may be a modular component coupled to the UE 110, e.g., an integrated circuit with or without firmware. For example, the integrated circuit may include input circuitry to receive signals and processing circuitry to process the signals and other information. The engines may also be embodied as one application or separate applications. In addition, in some UEs, the functionality described for the processor 205 is split among two or more processors such as a baseband processor and an applications processor. The example embodiments may be implemented in any of these or other configurations of a UE.The memory arrangement 210 may be a hardware component configured to store data related to operations performed by the UE 110. The display device 215 may be a hardware component configured to show data to a user while the I / O device 220 may be a hardware component that enables the user to enter inputs. The display device 215 and the I / O device 220 may be separate components or integrated together such as a touchscreen.

[0001] The transceiver 225 may be a hardware component configured to establish a connection with the 5G NR RAN 120, a 6G RAN (not pictured) , an LTE-RAN (not pictured) , a legacy RAN (not pictured) , a WLAN (not pictured) , etc. Accordingly, the transceiver 225 may operate on a variety of different frequencies or channels (e.g., set of consecutive frequencies) . The transceiver 225 includes circuitry configured to transmit and / or receive signals (e.g., control signals, data signals) . Such signals may be encoded with information implementing any one of the methods described herein. The processor 205 may be operably coupled to the transceiver 225 and configured to receive from and / or transmit signals to the transceiver 225. The processor 205 may be configured to encode, decode and / or process signals (e.g., signaling from a base station of a network) for implementing any one of the methods described herein.Fig. 3 shows an example base station 300 according to various example embodiments. The base station 300 may represent the base station 120A or any other access node through which the UE 110 may establish a connection and manage network operations.The base station 300 may include a processor 305, a memory arrangement 310, an input / output (I / O) device 315, a transceiver 320, and other components 325. The other components 325 may include, for example, an audio input device, an audio output device, a battery, a data acquisition device, ports to electrically connect the base station 300 to other electronic devices and / or power sources, etc.The processor 305 may be configured to execute a plurality of engines. For example, the engines may include a simultaneous Rx-Tx engine 330. The simultaneous Rx-Tx engine 330 may perform operations related to the enhancements introduced herein such as, not limited to, receiving capability information from the UE 110 for simultaneous Rx-Tx.The above referenced engine 330 being an application (e.g., programs) executed by the processor 205 is only an example. The functionality associated with the engine may also be represented as a separate incorporated component of the base station 300 or may be a modular component coupled to the base station 300, e.g., an integrated circuit with or without firmware. For example, the integrated circuit may include input circuitry to receive signals and processing circuitry to process the signals and other information. The engine may also be embodied as one application or separate applications. In addition, in some base stations, the functionality described for the processor 305 is split among two or more processors such as a baseband processor and an applications processor. The example embodiments may be implemented in any of these or other configurations of a base station.The memory 310 may be a hardware component configured to store data related to operations performed by the base station 300. The I / O device 315 may be a hardware component or ports that enable a user to interact with the base station 300.The transceiver 320 may be a hardware component configured to exchange data with the UE 110 and any other UE in the network arrangement 100. The transceiver 320 may operate on a variety of different frequencies or channels (e.g., set of consecutive frequencies) . Therefore, the transceiver 320 may include one or more components (e.g., radios) to enable the data exchange with the various networks and UEs. The transceiver 320 includes circuitry configured to transmit and / or receive signals (e.g., control signals, data signals) . Such signals may be encoded with information implementing any one of the methods described herein. The processor 305 may be operably coupled to the transceiver 320 and configured to receive from and / or transmit signals to the transceiver 320. The processor 305 may be configured to encode, decode and / or process signals (e.g., signaling from a UE) for implementing any one of the methods described herein.As stated above, the example embodiments relate to simultaneous Rx-Tx. At the UE 110, when a band combination supports simultaneous Rx-Tx, an uplink transmission on one band may create interference on a downlink reception on another band supported by the UE 110. In addition, the uplink transmission on one band may create interference at the UE 110 itsel f for downlink reception.For band combinations that do not support simultaneous Rx-Tx, there may be a scheduling restriction on the network side to avoid scheduling downlink data in a slot where an uplink transmission is scheduled to occur. In this type of scenario, the downlink band subject to the scheduling restriction may be referred to as a victim band. However, band combinations with different duplex modes may be handled differently.To provide an example, the UE 110 may support a band combination including frequency band n40 (e.g., 2.3 giga hertz (GHz) band) and frequency band n41 (e.g., 2.5 GHz band) . The bands n40 and n41 may be grouped together due to their close proximity in frequency which reduces implementation complexity and antenna count. However, in an example where the UE 110 has 4 Rx antennas and 2 Rx antennas are shared with an uplink transmission for simultaneous Rx-Tx (e.g., diversity antenna) , when the uplink transmission is performed there may be a significant degradation at the 2 Rx antennas dedicated for the downlink. The 2 diversity antennas may also experience degradation to a lesser extent. I f there is too much degradation between the uplink and the downlink, the network may reduce the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) rank. However, it would be beneficial for the UE 110 to be able to reduce the MIMO rank from rank 4 to rank 2 or rank 1 without waiting for the network to be triggered to reduce the rank.Each band combination may be associated with different UE capabilities. To minimize the size of UE capability information, feature sets may be reported by the UE. Each feature set may include a set of UE capabilities and features. The UE capability information may include an association between a band combination and one or more feature sets. Thus, the UE 110 may report a single band combination associated with different capabilities by utilizing separate feature sets. The example embodiments introduce capability information that allows the UE 110 to indicate support for different numbers of MIMO layers with and without simultaneous Rx-Tx. By advertising these capabilities, the UE 110 may reduce the MIMO rank without waiting for the network.To provide an example, the UE 110 may advertise the band combination n40-n41. The UE capability information may include multiple feature sets associated with band combination n40-n41. A first feature set may indicate support of rank 4 downlink (DL) MIMO support without simultaneous Rx-Tx capability and a second feature set may indicate rank 2 DL MIMO support with simultaneous Rx-Tx capability. In this scenario, the victim band may be forced to statically operate on rank 2 or rank 1 while the band may actually be able to support up to rank 4. This results in a loss of spectral efficiency. The example embodiments introduce capability signaling enhancements to increase spectral e fficiency by indicating that the UE 110 could opportunistically achieve up to rank 4 in the cases where there is no simultaneous Rx-Tx on the victim band.Fig. 4 shows a signaling diagram 400 for UE capability information according to various example embodiments. The signaling diagram 400 includes the UE 110 and the gNB 120A of the 5G NR RAN 120.In 410, the gNB 120A transmits a UE capability request message to the UE 110. The UE capability request message may be a radio resource control (RRC) message that is used to request UE capability information from the UE 110. In some examples, the UE capability request message may request UE capability information specific to a particular radio access technology (RAT) and / or frequency bands. However, the use of a UE capability request message is provided as an example and is not intended to limit the example embodiments in any way. The UE 110 may be triggered to provide UE capability information for any appropriate reason.In 420, the UE 110 transmits UE capability information to the gNB 120A. The UE capability information may include UE capability information for specific band combinations. This example is described with regard to a band combination that consists of or includes at least band n40 and n41. The bands n40 and n41 are typically grouped together due to their close frequency distance. This minimizes implementation complexity and antenna count. However, while the example embodiments may be beneficial to a band combination that includes bands n40 and n41, the examples embodiments are not limited to this band combination and may be used with any appropriate band combination.For 4-layer MIMO and simultaneous Rx-Tx, the 2 Rx chains sharing antennas with the Tx are expected to experience degradation of the reference sensitivity of the UE 110. When the UE 110 experiences noise imbalance between shared and diversity antennas it may be beneficial to reduce MIMO to rank 1 or rank 2.In one approach, the UE 110 may support a capability for simultaneous Rx-Tx for inter-band CA but with a rank limitation on slots where concurrent UL and DL transmissions may occur. In one example, the rank limitation may be rank 1 only. In another example, the rank limitation may be up to rank 2 (e.g., rank 1 or rank 2) . In some examples, the rank limitation may also apply to flexible slots that may be configured for either uplink or downlink transmissions.In another approach, the UE 110 may support a capability for simultaneous Rx-Tx for inter-band CA per band pair. This capability may enable the UE 110 to use an opportunistic rank limitation that is tied to only a slot where simultaneous Rx-Tx is configured. For example, the UE 110 may use up to rank 4 for a CA band pair unless simultaneous Rx-Tx is scheduled. The slots where simultaneous Rx-Tx is scheduled, the UE 110 may apply a rank limitation. In one example, the rank limitation may be rank 1 only. In another example, the rank limitation may be up to rank 2 (e.g., rank 1 or rank 2) .The UE capabilities for simultaneous Rx-Tx for inter-band CA and for simultaneous Rx-Tx for inter-band CA per band pair may be indicated to the network using one or more information elements (IEs) in the UE capability information in 420. Once the network is aware of this capability, it may account for this UE 110 behavior and thus, the UE 110 may opportunistically reduce the MIMO rank without waiting for explicit instructions from the network.When simultaneous Rx-Tx is configured, the UE 110 may switch between MSD requirements for 4 Rx and 2 Rx operation. For example, in slots where there is rank 4 MIMO and no Tx operation, the UE 110 may apply MSD requirements for 4 Rx. However, for slots where simultaneous Rx-Tx is scheduled and DL transmission is limited to rank 1 or rank 2, the UE 110 may apply MSD requirements for 2 Rx. In another example, MSD requirements may be introduced that are specific to simultaneous Rx-Tx operations. These MSD requirements may be hard encoded in 3GPP Technical Specifications (e.g., TS 38.101-1, TS 38.101-2, TS 28.101-3, etc. ) or provided to the UE 110 in any other appropriate manner.ExamplesIn a first example, a method, comprising generating, for transmission to a network, user equipment (UE) capability information comprising an indication that a UE supports simultaneous reception and transmission (Rx-Tx) for a band combination and rank 4 downlink multiple input multiple output (MIMO) for the band combination and performing simultaneous Rx-Tx on the band combination.In a second example, the method of the firs t example, wherein the band combination comprises only frequency band n40 and frequency band n41.In a third example, the method of the first example, wherein the capability information indicates a capability for simultaneous Rx-Tx for inter-band carrier aggregation (CA) with a rank limitation on slots where concurrent uplink and downlink transmissions are scheduled.In a fourth example, the method of the third example, wherein the rank limitation comprises rank 1 only.In a fifth example, the method of the third example, wherein the rank limitation comprises up to rank 2.In a sixth example, the method of the third example, wherein the slots comprise flexible slots.In a seventh example, the method of the first example, wherein the capability information indicates a capability for simultaneous Rx-Tx for inter-band carrier aggregation (CA) per band pair.In an eighth example, the method of the first example, wherein performing simultaneous Rx-Tx on the band combination includes reducing rank 4 MIMO to rank 1 or rank 2.In a ninth example, the method of the first example, wherein, when a downlink transmission is limited to rank 1 or rank 2, a maximum sensitivity degradation (MSD) requirement for 2Rx is applied.In a tenth example, the method of the first example, wherein a maximum sensitivity degradation (MSD) requirement specific to simultaneous Rx-Tx is applied.In an eleventh example, a pro cessor configured to perform any of the methods of the first through tenth examples.In a twelfth example, a user equipment (UE) configured to perform any of the methods of the first through tenth examples.Those skilled in the art will understand that the above-described example embodiments may be implemented in any suitable software or hardware configuration or combination thereof. An example hardware platform for implementing the example embodiments may include, for example, an Intel x86 based platform with compatible operating system, a Windows OS, a Mac platform and MAC OS, a mobile device having an operating system such as iOS, Android, etc. In a further example, the example embodiments of the above-described method may be embodied as a program containing lines of code stored on a non-transitory computer readable storage medium that, when compiled, may be executed on a processor or microprocessor.Although this application described various aspects each having different features in various combinations, those skilled in the art will understand that any of the features of one aspect may be combined with the features of the other aspects in any manner not specifically disclaimed or which is not functionally or logically inconsistent with the operation of the device or the stated functions of the disclosed aspects.It is well understood that the use of personally identifiable information should follow privacy policies and practices that are generally recognized as meeting or exceeding industry or governmental requirements for maintaining the privacy of users. In particular, personally identifiable information data should be managed and handled so as to minimize risks of unintentional or unauthorized access or use, and the nature of authorized use should be clearly indicated to users.It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made in the present disclosure, without departing from the spirit or the scope of the disclosure. Thus, it is intended that the present disclosure cover modifications and variations of this disclosure provided they come within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalent.
