[0030] A communication system may include a radio access network (RAN) that supports wireless communication. Communication of a RAN may be performed in accordance with one or more radio access technologies (RATs) , including 4G, 5G, or 6G, among others, including technologies not explicitly mentioned herein. A RAT may employ access technologies (such as multiplexing technologies) including code division multiple access (CDMA) , time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) , single-carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) , time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) , or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) , among others. A RAT may support one or more service types, including machine type communication (MTC) , massive MTC (mMTC) , Internet of Things (IoT) , narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) , reduced capability (RedCap) , enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) , or public safety, among others.
[0031] To support these and other target verticals, a communication system (such as a RAN) may be designed to implement one or more of a modularized functional infrastructure, a disaggregated and service-based network architecture, network function virtualization, network slicing, multi-access edge computing, spatial processing or multipath techniques, IoT or RedCap device connectivity and management, industrial connectivity, licensed and unlicensed spectrum access, sidelink or other device-to-device (D2D) direct communication (such as vehicle-to-everything (V2X) ) , frequency spectrum expansion, overlapping spectrum use, small cell deployments, non-terrestrial network (NTN) deployments, device aggregation, advanced duplex communication (such as sub-band full-duplex (SBFD) ) , multiple-subscriber implementations, high-precision positioning, radio frequency (RF) sensing, network energy savings (NES) , low-power signaling and radios, or artificial intelligence or machine learning (AI / ML) , among other examples.
[0032] The foregoing and other technological improvements may support use cases such as voice calls, messaging, data transfer, streaming, wireless data centers, extended reality (XR) and metaverse applications, vehicle connectivity, holographic and mixed reality communication, autonomous and collaborative robots, sensing networks, gesture monitoring, human-brain interfacing, digital twin applications, asset management, and universal coverage using non-terrestrial or aerial platforms, among other examples. As the demand for connectivity continues to increase, further improvements may be implemented, and other RATs, including 6G and beyond, may be introduced to enable new applications and use cases. The systems, methods, and devices described herein may enable one or more of the foregoing technologies or new technologies or support one or more of the foregoing use cases or new use cases.
[0033] Aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure relate to event-driven beam reporting, where a user equipment (UE) may send a beam report (such as a channel state information (CSI) report) that may be triggered by an event, such as when various channel quality and / or performance metrics for a serving beam fall below a threshold value. Such event-based beam reporting may allow for dynamic beam management and improved communications quality, because the UE may provide near real-time information to the network whenever communications quality associated with a serving beam falls below an acceptable quality. Event-driven beam reporting may be supported by different beam reporting modes. In a first mode “mode A, ” the UE may transmit a first control message via a first physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) to request uplink resources for transmission of the event-driven beam report via a second uplink channel (such as a second PUCCH or a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) ) , and the network may dynamically indicate uplink resources for the UE to use to transmit the event-based beam report. In a second mode “mode B, ” the UE may be pre-configured with one or more uplink channel resources to transmit the event-driven beam report, where the UE first sends a first PUCCH to indicate the resources that the UE will use to transmit the event based beam report.
[0034] In some cases, the UE may observe multiple triggering events over a duration of time and may (correspondingly) generate multiple beam reports to transmit to the network entity. In some such cases, multiple beam reports (e.g., multiple CSI report configurations) may be associated with one common first PUCCH resource, while a second uplink channel may be configured to include only a single event-based beam report. In the cases where the UE detects multiple events but is configured to transmit a single event-based beam report at a time, the UE may be unable to transmit an event-based beam report for a period of time after the event is triggered. Additionally, or alternatively, if the UE transmits the event-based beam report to the network entity, and the network entity mis-detects or otherwise fails to successfully decode the event-based beam report, the network entity may wait until an event condition is met again for the event-based beam report. That is, the transmission of only a single event-based beam report by the UE may be relatively inefficient if the UE needs to communicate reports for multiple triggering events, or if the UE needs to transmit retransmissions of a previously transmitted report.
[0035] A wireless communications system may support various techniques to support more accurate and efficient event-based beam management. In some examples, the UE may support a UE-side mechanism to determine a time duration Y, starting from a reference point and spanning for a threshold duration of time (e.g., a quantity of symbols, slots, milliseconds) . During the configured time duration Y, the UE may transmit or retransmit an event-based beam report. During the time window Y, the UE maintains the event-based beam report (e.g., in memory) even if transmission of the event-based beam report is successful. After expiration of the time window Y, the UE discards the report. In some other examples, the network entity may support a process for requesting, using downlink control information (DCI) (e.g., an “uplink DCI” that indicates resources for uplink transmissions to be used by the UE) , a report for a specific triggering event of a set of multiple triggering events at the UE. The DCI may include an indication of time / frequency resources to use for transmission of an event-based beam report associated with the specific triggering event requested by the network entity.
[0036] Particular aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure can be implemented to realize one or more of the following potential advantages. In some examples, by defining a time duration Y for maintaining an event-based beam report, the described techniques can be used to reduce the amount of memory resources taken up by event-based beam reports at the UE. For example, the UE 115 may transmit and / or retransmit an event-based beam report during the time duration Y, and may discard information corresponding to the report (e.g., discard the report) after expiration of the time duration Y. Additionally, or alternatively, by allowing the UE 115 to maintain the event-based beam report for the time duration Y, the techniques described herein may provide for more efficient retransmissions of an event-based beam report, which may allow for the increased communications quality and reliability, as the network entity may have more reliable access to the event-based beam report. Additionally, or alternatively, techniques described herein that allow for the network to request a particular event-based beam report via DCI may allow for the network to provide an explicit indication of information from the UE, which may provide more reliable communications, as the network may be able to more accurately predict a serving beam that has a highest communications quality.
[0037] Figure 1 shows an example of a wireless communication system 100. The wireless communication system 100 includes a core network 150 and a RAN 120 that support communication with one or more devices, such as UEs 115. A RAN 120 may include one or more network entities 105 configured to support wireless communication with the UEs 115.
[0038] The wireless communication system 100 may support communication among network entities 105 and UEs 115 in accordance with a layered protocol stack. For example, in a user plane, communication at a bearer layer, a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer, or Service Data Adaption Protocol (SDAP) layer may be Internet Protocol (IP) -based. A Radio Link Control (RLC) layer may perform packet segmentation and reassembly to communicate via logical channels. A Medium Access Control (MAC) layer may perform priority handling and multiplexing of logical channels into transport channels. A MAC layer also may implement error detection techniques, error correction techniques, or retransmissions. In a control plane, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer may provide establishment, configuration, and maintenance of an RRC connection between UEs 115 and a network entity 105 or a core network 150, supporting radio bearers for user plane data. A Physical (PHY) layer may map transport channels to physical channels.
[0039] A core network 150 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, IP connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions (such as via network entities 105) . A core network 150 may be a 5G core (5GC) or 6G core (6GC) , and may include at least one control plane entity that manages access and mobility and at least one user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (such as a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , a user plane function (UPF) ) .
[0040] A network entity 105 may support wireless communication in accordance with one or more coverage areas 110, and may be referred to as a network element, a network node, a RAN node, or network equipment, among other nomenclature. One or more of the network entities 105 may include or may be referred to as a base station. Depending on its capabilities, a base station may be referred to as a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB or giga-NodeB (either of which may be referred to as a gNB) , a 5G NB, a 6G NB, a next-generation eNB (ng-eNB) , a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology. The wireless communication system 100 may include a heterogeneous network in which different types of network entities 105 support communication for one or more coverage areas 110 using the same or different RATs.
[0041] In some examples, a network entity 105 may be implemented in an aggregated (such as monolithic, standalone) architecture, which may utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within one network entity 105 (such as a single physical RAN node) . In some other examples, a network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture, which may utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among multiple network entities 105, including in an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) . In a disaggregated architecture, a network entity 105 may include or be referred to as one or more of a central unit (CU) (such as CU 160) , a distributed unit (DU) (such as DU 165) , a radio unit (RU) (such as RU 170) , or a combination thereof. The wireless communication system 100 may also implement a service-based architecture that provides a modular framework in which control plane functionality and common data repositories may be delivered through a set of interconnected network functions (NFs) that may access services of other NFs.
[0042] UEs 115 may be located in a coverage area 110 of one or more network entities 105, and may include or be referred to as an access terminal, a mobile station, a client device, or a subscriber unit. A UE 115 may be, include, or be coupled with a cellular phone, a wireless modem, a tablet device, a laptop computer, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a camera, a medical or biometric device, a wearable device, a gaming device, an entertainment device, an XR device, a vehicular component or sensor, a smart meter or sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, a Global Positioning System (GPS) or other positioning device, a robot or other device implementing artificial intelligence, a UE function of a network node, or any other wireless communication device or function that may communicate using a wireless medium.
[0043] The wireless communication system 100 may support various types of communication links among devices. For example, wireless communication between a network entity 105 and a UE 115 may be supported using one or more of a communication link 125 (such as a Uu interface) , which may include downlink communication from a network entity 105 to a UE 115, uplink communication from a UE 115 to a network entity 105, or both. Direct wireless communication between UEs 115 may be supported using a communication link 135 (such as a device-to-device (D2D) communication link, a sidelink, a PC5 interface) .
[0044] Communication between a network entity 105 and a core network 150 may be supported using a backhaul link 132 (such as an S1, N2, N3, NG, or other interface) . In some implementations, communication between network entities 105 may be supported using a backhaul link 132 (such as an X2, Xn, or other interface) either directly (such as directly between network entities 105) or indirectly (such as via a core network 150) . In some implementations (such as in a disaggregated architecture) , communication between a CU 160 and a DU 165 may be supported using a midhaul link 162, and communication between a DU 165 and an RU may be supported using a fronthaul link 168. A backhaul link 132, a midhaul link 162, a fronthaul link 168, or any combination thereof may be or include one or more wired links (such as an electrical link, an optical fiber link) or one or more wireless links (such as a radio link, a wireless optical link) , among other examples or combinations thereof. Wireless backhaul, midhaul, or fronthaul may be implemented via one or more IAB nodes 104, which may act as a relay using resources of an IAB donor network entity 105 (such as via a wireless link 130) .
[0045] The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more of a relay 172 that may steer or reflect signals transmitted by other entities, which may support any of the described communication links. A relay 172 may include active elements or passive elements, and may be in the form of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) . An RIS may include tunable reflecting antenna arrays or metasurfaces, which may be used to enhance coverage or efficiency in multipath environments.
[0046] Network entities 105 and UEs 115 each may include one or multiple antennas. Multiple antennas of such devices may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, MIMO communication, or beamforming, and may be organized or structured as one or more antenna panels, one or more antenna groups, one or more sets of antenna elements, or one or more antenna arrays, among other examples. As used herein, the term “antenna” may refer to one or more antennas, one or more antenna panels, one or more antenna groups, one or more sets of antenna elements, or one or more antenna arrays. The term “antenna panel” may refer to a group of antennas (such as antenna elements) arranged in an array or panel, which may facilitate beamforming by manipulating parameters associated with the group of antennas. In some implementations, an antenna panel may support RF beamforming for a signal transmitted or received via an antenna port. The term “antenna module” may refer to circuitry including one or more antennas as well as one or more other components (such as filters, amplifiers, processors, beamformers) associated with integrating the antenna module into a device such as a network entity 105 or a UE 115.
[0047] Beamforming, such as directional transmission or directional reception, is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (such as at a network entity 105, at a UE 115) to shape or steer a beam 175 (such as an antenna beam, a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path (such as along a direction) , which may include one or more paths between a transmitting device and a receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via multiple antenna elements of an antenna array such that signals propagating along some orientations (such as relative to the antenna array) experience constructive interference while others may experience destructive interference. Adjustments of signals communicated via the antenna elements may include a transmitting device or a receiving device applying phase offsets, amplitude offsets, or other adjustments to signals carried via (such as transmitted by, received by) antenna elements of the device, which may be defined by a beamforming weight set associated with a particular orientation (such as relative to the antenna array of the device) .
[0048] Communication resources of the wireless communication system 100 (such as of a RAN 120) may refer to a resource in the frequency domain (such as a frequency resource, an RF resource) , a resource in the time domain (such as a time resource) , a resource in the spatial domain (such as a spatial resource, a spatial layer) , or a combination thereof. The wireless communication system 100 may leverage orthogonality of such resources to convey different communications to or from different devices (such as for a communication link 125, for a communication link 135, for unicast communication, for multicast communication, for broadcast communication) .
[0049] A frequency resource may refer to a frequency or range of frequencies (such as a bandwidth, a frequency channel) of a frequency band implemented for wireless communication. For example, a frequency resource may refer to a resource of a lower frequency band (such as Frequency Range 1 (FR1) , between 425 MHz and 7.125 GHz) , a mid-band (such as Frequency Range 3 (FR3) , between 7.125 GHz and 24.25 GHz) , or an upper frequency band (such as Frequency Range 2 (FR2) , between 24.25 GHz and 71 GHz) . Communication in the upper frequency band may be referred to as millimeter wave (mmW) communication, and communication above an upper frequency band (such as between mmW and THz frequencies, between 100 GHz and 1 THz) may be referred to as sub-Terahertz (sub-THz) communication.
[0050] A frequency resource may refer to a “carrier” (such as a frequency channel) , or portion thereof, and a carrier bandwidth may be referred to as a “system bandwidth. ” A carrier may be subdivided in the frequency domain, including into subcarriers, bandwidth parts (BWPs) , or both. For example, a resource block (RB) , such as a physical resource block (PRB) , may be defined in accordance with a set of subcarriers (such as twelve consecutive subcarriers in the frequency domain) , and a BWP may be configured in accordance with a set of RBs (such as a set of contiguous RBs) .
[0051] A frequency resource may be configured to carry either downlink communication or uplink communication (such as in a frequency division duplexing (FDD) configuration) , or may be configured to carry both downlink and uplink communication (such as in a time division duplexing (TDD) configuration, in a sub-band full duplex (SBFD) configuration) . One or more numerologies for a carrier may be supported, each associated with a subcarrier spacing (SCS) and a cyclic prefix (CP) . Supported numerologies may vary by frequency range (such as FR1, FR2, FR3) , and a carrier may be divided into portions (such as BWPs) having the same or different numerologies. BWPs may be configured as uplink BWPs or downlink BWPs (such as by a network entity 105) , including in response to network conditions (such as to allocate uplink and downlink BWPs in response to traffic conditions) , device capability (such as allocating BWPs with a greater quantity of RBs to UEs 115 with relatively higher capabilities) , or both. A UE 115 may be configured with a set of multiple BWPs (such as a set of uplink BWPs, a set of downlink BWPs, or both) , and a single BWP of a set (such as an active UL BWP, an active DL BWP, or both) may be active at a given time, such that communication of a UE 115 is supported by active BWP (s) .
[0052] A time resource may refer to a duration of a frame (such as a radio frame, a frame structure) , or portion thereof. For example, a frame may span a duration of 10 ms, and each frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) . A frame may be subdivided in the time domain, including into subframes, slots, mini-slots, or a combination thereof. Slots or mini-slots may each include a respective quantity of symbols (such as symbol durations, symbol periods, OFDM symbols) , which may be a function of a configured CP. A duration of a symbol is a function of the SCS or frequency band of operation.
[0053] A spatial resource may refer to an antenna, an antenna direction, an antenna port, a signal direction (such as a beamforming direction) , or other resource that supports spatial orthogonality. A device (such as a network entity 105, a UE 115) may perform communications of a given frequency resource and time resource with a single spatial resource (such as communication without regard to spatial orthogonality) . Additionally, or alternatively, a device may implement multiple spatial resources to support multiple signal streams using resources that are overlapping in the time and frequency domains (such as to support MIMO techniques) .
[0054] Signals of the wireless communication system 100 (such as of a RAN 120) may be communicated using one or more resource elements (REs) , and an RE may refer to a resource that corresponds to one subcarrier in the frequency domain and one symbol in the time domain. An RE may be used to convey a modulation symbol corresponding to one or more bits of information (such as of a physical channel, of a reference signal) in accordance with a modulation scheme. For example, a quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technique may be implemented to communicate one or more bits that are distinguished in accordance with phase components, amplitude components, or both of a signal conveyed using a RE.A quantity of bits carried by an RE may depend on an order of the modulation scheme, and a relatively higher order may correspond to a relatively higher rate of communication. A device may support communication of REs using multiple subcarriers concurrently by implementing multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM) , among others.
[0055] Physical channels may carry information using modulation symbols conveyed by corresponding REs. Physical shared channels (such as for communicating user data) may include a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for communicating user data in a downlink direction and a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) for communicating user data in an uplink direction. Physical control channels (such as for managing communication via physical channels) may include a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) for communicating downlink control information (DCI) and a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) for communicating uplink control information (UCI) . A network entity 105 may indicate (such as schedule, allocate) communication resources for a UE 115 using DCI, including indicating downlink resources of a PDSCH (such as in accordance with a downlink grant) , uplink resources of a PUSCH (such as in accordance with an uplink grant) , or a combination thereof. A control region (such as a control resource set (CORESET) ) for a physical control channel may be configured in accordance with a pattern of REs in the time and frequency domains, and one or more control regions may be configured for a set of UEs. A UE 115 may monitor control regions for control information according to one or more search space sets, which may include a common search space set (such as for sending control information to one or more UEs 115) , UE-specific search space sets (such as for sending control information to a UE 115) , or a combination thereof. A physical broadcast channel (PBCH) may be used to broadcast parameters to UEs 115 to synchronize with a network entity 105 and establish communications (such as to establish a communication link 125) .
[0056] A quasi co-location (QCL) relationship between one or more transmissions or signals may refer to a relationship between the antenna ports (and the corresponding signaling beams) of the respective transmissions. For example, one or more antenna ports may be implemented by a network entity 105 for transmitting at least one or more reference signals (such as a downlink reference signal, a synchronization signal block (SSB) , or the like) and control information transmissions to a UE 115. However, the channel properties of signals sent via the different antenna ports may be interpreted (e.g., by a receiving device) to be the same (e.g., despite the signals being transmitted from different antenna ports) , and the antenna ports (and the respective beams) may be described as being quasi co-located (QCLed) . QCLed signals may enable the UE 115 to derive the properties of a first signal (e.g., delay spread, Doppler spread, frequency shift, average power) transmitted via a first antenna port from measurements made on a second signal transmitted via a second antenna port. Put another way, if two antenna ports are categorized as being QCLed in terms of, for example, delay spread then the UE 115 may determine the delay spread for one antenna port (e.g., based on a received reference signal, such as CSI-RS) and then apply the result to both antenna ports. Such techniques may avoid the UE 115 determining the delay spread separately for each antenna port. In some cases, two antenna ports may be said to be spatially QCLed, and the properties of a signal sent over a directional beam may be derived from the properties of a different signal over another, different directional beam. That is, QCL relationships may relate to beam information for respective directional beams used for communications of various signals.
[0057] Different types of QCL relationships may describe the relationship between two different signals or antenna ports. For instance, QCL-TypeA may refer to a QCL relationship between signals including Doppler shift, Doppler spread, average delay, and delay spread. QCL-TypeB may refer to a QCL relationship including Doppler shift and Doppler spread, whereas QCL-TypeC may refer to a QCL relationship including Doppler shift and average delay. A QCL-TypeD may refer to a QCL relationship of spatial parameters, which may indicate a relationship between two or more directional beams used to communicate signals. Here, the spatial parameters may indicate that a first beam used to transmit a first signal may be similar (or the same) as another beam used to transmit a second, different, signal, or, that the same receive beam may be used to receive both the first and the second signal. Thus, the beam information for various beams may be derived through receiving signals from a transmitting device, where, in some cases, the QCL information or spatial information may help a receiving device efficient identify communications beams (e.g., without having to sweep through a large quantity of beams to identify a beam (e.g., the beam having a highest signal quality) ) . In addition, QCL relationships may exist for both uplink and downlink transmissions and, in some cases, a QCL relationship may also be referred to as spatial relationship information.
[0058] In some examples, TCI states may include one or more parameters associated with a QCL relationship between transmitted signals. For example, each TCI state includes parameters for configuring a QCL relationship between one or two downlink reference signals and the DMRS ports of PDSCH, the DMRS port of PDCCH or the CSI-RS port (s) of a CSI-RS resource. The QCL relationship is configured by a first higher layer parameter for the first downlink reference signal, and by a second higher layer parameter for the second downlink reference signal (if configured) . That is, a network entity 105 may configure a QCL relationship that provides a mapping between a reference signal and antenna ports of another signal, and the TCI state may be indicated to the UE 115 by the network entity 105. In some cases, a set of TCI states (e.g., a list of TCI states) may be indicated to a UE 115 via RRC signaling, where some quantity of TCI states may be configured via RRC and one or more TCI states may be indicated (e.g., activated) via a medium access control (MAC) -control element (MAC-CE) , and further indicated via DCI (e.g., within a CORESET) . The QCL relationship associated with the TCI state (and further established through higher-layer parameters) may provide the UE 115 with the QCL relationship for respective antenna ports and reference signals transmitted by the network entity 105.
[0059] Reference signals may be communicated to establish reference characteristics (such as a frequency reference, a temporal reference, a spatial reference, a signal quality reference) between devices of a RAN 120, which may support communication using physical channels. Reference signals communicated between network entities 105 and UEs 115 may include synchronization signals (such as a primary synchronization signal (PSS) , a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) ) that support temporal synchronization, channel state information-reference signals (CSI-RSs) that support evaluating downlink channel characteristics, sounding reference signals (SRSs) that support evaluating uplink channel characteristics, demodulation reference signals (DMRSs) that support demodulation, or phase tracking reference signals (PTRSs) for evaluating oscillator characteristics, among others. Network entities 105 and UEs 115 may receive and measure transmitted reference signals to support one or more of these and other functions.
[0060] A UE 115 may support event-driven beam reporting, where the UE 115 may transmit a beam report (such as a channel state information (CSI) report) to notify the network of a triggering event, such as when various channel quality and / or performance metrics fall below a threshold value. Event-driven beam reporting may be supported by different beam reporting modes, including a first mode “mode A, ” where the UE 115 transmits a first PUCCH to request uplink resources for transmission of the event-driven beam report via a second uplink channel (such as a second PUCCH or a PUSCH, where the network dynamically indicates resources to the UE 115) , and a second mode “mode B, ” where the UE 115 is pre-configured with an uplink channel to transmit the event-driven beam report, and transmits a first PUCCH in order to notify the network of a selected resource that the UE 115 uses for transmission of the event-based beam report.
[0061] In some implementations, the UE 115 may observe multiple triggering events over a time duration and may generate a corresponding set of multiple beam reports to transmit to the network. In some cases, multiple beam reports (e.g., multiple CSI report configurations) may be associated with one common first PUCCH resource, and the second uplink channel (e.g., the second PUCCH, the PUSCH) may include a single beam report. In some examples, the multiple beam report configurations associated with the same PUCCH resource may be ordered in ascending order of corresponding identifiers (IDs) (e.g., CSI-ReportConfigId) , where the quantity of bits of the additional indication field is defined by ceil (log2 (N_CSIconfig) ) and where the N_CSIconfig denotes the quantity of CSI report configurations associated with the same PUCCH resource. The payload size of the single event-based beam report may be determined according to a threshold (e.g., maximum) payload size among the associated CSI report configurations. In some examples, the UE 115 may append zero-padding bits if the payload size of the event-based beam report is less than the maximum report payload. In any case, the reported event-based beam report satisfies a triggering condition (e.g., a threshold signal strength, a threshold communication quality) .
[0062] For cases in which multiple event-based beam report procedures occur, the UE 115 may identify one of the reports to transmit via the second uplink channel. In some examples, the selection of the event-based beam report to send via the second uplink channel may be based on UE implementation (e.g., the UE 115 may select one reporting configuration of the multiple triggered configurations) . In some examples, the UE 115 may select the event-based beam report having the highest priority to report via the second uplink channel. In some examples, the UE 115 may select the report triggered in the latest (e.g., temporally most recent) measurement report to report via the second uplink channel. In such examples, the multiple report configurations associated with the first PUCCH resource may be configured in the same component carrier.
[0063] In some cases of “mode A” event-based beam reporting, the multiple CSI report configurations associated with the same first PUCCH resource may be associated with a same CSI trigger state (e.g., CSI-AperiodicTriggerState) . In cases of “mode B” event-based beam reporting, the multiple CSI report configurations associated with the same first PUCCH resource may be associated with the same second configured uplink channel.
[0064] In some implementations, multiple event-based beam reports associated with the same PUCCH resource for first PUCCH may be transmitted in the second uplink channel, where at least one of the event-based beam reports satisfy a triggering condition, and the UE 115 may (or may not) provide an additional indication of a reporting ID (e.g., CSI report configuration id) for the event-based beam reports associated with the first PUCCH. In some examples, the total quantity of beam reports supported for transmission via the second uplink channel may be configured via control signaling (e.g., RRC signaling) , or may be based on UE capability.
[0065] Devices of the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support one or more aspects of the described techniques for postponed event-based beam reporting. For example, a UE 115 may include a processing system 140, and a network entity 105 may include a processing system 145, each of which may be configured to cause the respective device to perform (such as being configured as means for performing) one or more of the described operations. By configuring a processing system 140, a processing system 145, or a combination thereof in accordance with the described techniques, the communication system 100 (such as the RAN 120) may support accurate and efficient event-based beam management.
[0066] In some examples, the UE 115 may support a UE-side mechanism to determine a time duration Y, starting from a reference point and spanning for a threshold duration of time (e.g., a quantity of symbols, slots, milliseconds) . During the configured time duration Y, the UE 115 may transmit or retransmit an event-based beam report. During the time window Y, the UE 115 maintains the event-based beam report (e.g., in memory) even if transmission of the event-based beam report is successful. After expiration of the time window Y, the UE 115 discards the report. In some other examples, the network entity may support a process for requesting, using DCI (e.g., an “uplink DCI” that grants resources for one or more uplink transmissions to be used by the UE 115) , a report for a specific triggering event of a set of multiple triggering events at the UE 115. The DCI may include an indication of time / frequency resources to use for transmission of an event-based beam report associated with the specific triggering event requested by the network entity 105.
[0067] Figure 2 shows an example of a signaling configuration 200 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. For example, the signaling configuration 200 may support wireless communications signaling between a UE 115 and a network entity 105, each of which may be examples of corresponding UEs 115 and network entities 105 described with reference to Figure 1. In some aspects, the signaling configuration 200 may support signaling that enables or supports event-based beam reporting.
[0068] The signaling configuration 200 may support beam management procedures, where the network entity 105 may configure and / or activate frequent periodic or semi-persistent beam reporting, and the UE 115 reports a threshold quantity (e.g., N) “best” beams and corresponding beam strengths (e.g., layer-1 reference signal receive powers (L1-RSRPs) ) . Additionally, or alternatively, the network entity 105 may trigger frequent aperiodic beam reporting to obtain information regarding the “best” beam to provide the UE 115 for data transmissions, control transmissions, or both. In some cases, however, frequent beam reporting may result in relatively large uplink reporting overhead and control signaling overhead. Conversely, if less frequent beam reporting is configured, the network entity 105 may be unable to acquire information regarding the “best” beams, and beam reporting by the UE 115 may be outdated, leading to performance degradation.
[0069] To support coordination of accurate beams between the network entity 105 and the UE 115, and to reduce beam reporting overhead, the UE 115 may support event-based beam reporting. For example, if the UE 115 determines that beam quality (e.g., reference signal receive power (RSRP) , reference signal receive quality (RSRQ) , signal and interference plus noise ratio (SINR) ) falls below a threshold beam quality, the UE 115 may trigger beam reporting without the network entity 105 first configuring or triggering periodic, aperiodic, or semi-persistent beam reporting.
[0070] In some implementations, the UE 115 may support event-driven beam reporting and beam management techniques to reduce reporting overhead and / or beam switching latency while operating in accordance with a unified transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state (e.g., one or multiple TCI states may be activated from a set of configured TCI state) and while utilizing CSI measurement and reporting configuration processes. In some examples, the UE 115 may support one or more “modes” for event-based beam reporting (e.g., UE-initiated beam reporting) , including a first mode (e.g., mode A) which includes dynamic scheduling (e.g., via DCI) of an uplink channel for transmission of an event-based beam report 205, and a second mode (e.g., mode B) which supports defining a pre-configured resource for the uplink channel that carries the event-based beam report 205.
[0071] In the first mode of event-based beam reporting, the UE 115 may measure reference signaling 210 to monitor the quality of beams at the UE 115. In some cases, the UE 115 may identify an event 215 (e.g., a triggering event) , which may include a beam quality (e.g., RSRP, RSRQ) associated with the reference signal measurements falling below a threshold quality. When the UE 115 identifies the event 215, the UE 115 may transmit a first PUCCH 220-a (e.g., a one-bit PUCCH, a multi-bit PUCCH) which requests a resource for a second uplink channel 225-a (e.g., a PUCCH, a PUSCH, or both) to carry the event-based beam report associated with the identified event. In some examples, the first PUCCH 220-a may be included as a scheduling request message, or another type of uplink control information (UCI) message) . The network entity 105 may then receive the request for the second uplink channel 225-a, and may transmit a DCI message that indicates (e.g., dynamically indicates) a resource for the second uplink channel 225-a. In some examples, the DCI message may have a DCI format that is indicative of the resources scheduled for the second uplink channel 225-a. For example, the network entity 105 may include the request for the second uplink channel 225-a in a CSI request field of a DCI format 0_1, a DCI format 0_2, a DCI format 0_3, or any combination thereof. In such examples, if a CSI trigger state associated with event-based beam reporting configurations is indicated by the CSI request field of at least one DCI format, the UE 115 may transmit the corresponding event-based beam reports in the second uplink channel 225-a scheduled by the DCI format. In some examples, a CSI trigger state may be dedicated to event-based beam reporting or may be an existing CSI trigger state that is re-used to indicate event-based beam reporting.
[0072] In the second mode of event-based beam reporting, the UE 115 may measure reference signaling 210 to monitor the quality of beams at the UE 115. In some cases, the UE 115 may identify an event 215, which may include a beam quality (e.g., RSRP, RSRQ) associated with the reference signal measurements falling below a threshold quality. When the UE 115 identifies the event 215, the UE 115 may transmit a first PUCCH 220-b (e.g., a one-bit PUCCH, a multi-bit PUCCH) which indicates a pre-configured resource for a second uplink channel 225-b (e.g., a PUCCH, a PUSCH, or both) that the UE 115 will use to transmit the event-based beam report associated with the identified event. In some examples, the first PUCCH 220-b may be included as a scheduling request message, or another type of uplink control information (UCI) message) . The network entity 105 may then receive the indication of the second uplink channel 225-b, and the UE 115 may transmit the event-based beam report via the second uplink channel 225-b.
[0073] In some aspects, for the first mode of event-based beam reporting and the second mode of event-based beam reporting, the UE 115 and the network entity 105 may exchange acknowledgment information (e.g., HARQ information) and / or DCI information regarding whether requests and / or indication of the second uplink channel is received. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may transmit UE capability information to the network entity 105 to indicate which modes of event-based beam reporting are supported, or the network entity 105 may assume capabilities for the first mode, the second mode, or both. In some cases, the UE 115 may support cross-component carrier beam reporting for both the first mode and the second mode.
[0074] In some implementations, the UE 115 may observe multiple triggering events over a duration of time and may generate a corresponding multiple beam reports to transmit to the network entity 105. In some cases, multiple beam reports (e.g., multiple CSI report configurations) may be associated with one common first PUCCH resource (such as the first PUCCH 220-a) , and the second uplink channel (such as the second uplink channel 225-a) may include a single beam report. In cases where the UE 115 detects multiple events but is configured to transmit a single event-based beam report at a time, the UE 115 may encounter a case in which an event-based beam report for an event is not transmitted for a period of time. Additionally, or alternatively, if the UE 115 transmits the event-based beam report to the network entity 105, and the network entity 105 mis-detects or fails to successfully decode the event-based beam report, the network entity 105 may wait until an event condition is met again for the event-based beam report. That is, the transmission of only a single event-based beam report by the UE 115 may be relatively inefficient if the UE 115 needs to communicate reports for multiple triggering events, or if the UE 115 needs to transmit retransmissions of a previously transmitted report.
[0075] The UE 115 and the network entity 105 may support various techniques to support more accurate and efficient event-based beam management. In some examples, the UE 115 may support a UE-side mechanism to determine a time window Y, starting from a reference point and spanning for a threshold duration of time (e.g., a number of symbols, slots, milliseconds) for which the UE 115 transmits or retransmits an event-based beam report. The UE 115 may support configuration of the time window Y for both the first mode of event-based beam reporting and the second mode of event-based beam reporting. During the time window Y, the UE 115 maintains the report even if transmission of the report is successful. After expiration of the time window, the UE 115 discards the report. In some other examples, the network entity 105 may support a process for requesting, using uplink DCI (e.g., a DCI supported in the first mode of event-based beam reporting that includes resources for a granted uplink transmission by the UE 115) , a report for a specific triggering event of a set of triggering events at the UE 115. The uplink DCI may include an indication of time / frequency resources to use for transmission of an event-based beam report associated with the specific triggering event requested by the network entity 105.
[0076] Figure 3 shows an example of a beam reporting configuration 300 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. For example, the beam reporting configuration 300 may illustrate techniques for a UE 115 (such as a UE 115 described with reference to Figure 1 and Figure 2) to identify a time duration to perform transmissions and retransmissions of an event-based beam report.
[0077] The UE 115 may measure reference signaling 305 to monitor the quality of beams used by the UE 115. In some cases, the UE 115 may identify an event 310 via a positive event evaluation (from a set of X triggering events) . In some cases, the positive event evaluation may include the UE 115 identifying that a beam quality (e.g., RSRP, RSRQ) associated with the reference signal measurements have fallen below a threshold. The UE 115 may determine a reference point 315 which indicates a beginning of a time duration Y (e.g., a time window) associated with the event 310. During the time duration Y, the UE 115 may transmit and / or retransmit the event-based beam report associated with the event 310. During the time duration Y, the UE 115 may maintain (e.g., store, retain) the event-based beam report (e.g., in memory of the UE 115) regardless of a successful transmission of the event-based beam report via a second uplink channel. After the expiration of the time duration (e.g., at time 330) , the UE 115 may discard the event-based beam report.
[0078] For a first mode of event-based beam reporting (e.g., “mode A” ) , after the triggering event, the reference point, and the beginning of the time duration Y, the UE 115 may transmit a first PUCCH 320-a which requests a resource for a second uplink channel 325-a (e.g., a PUCCH, a PUSCH, or both) to carry the event-based beam report associated with the identified event. A network entity may then receive the request for the second uplink channel 325-a, and may transmit a DCI message that indicates (e.g., dynamically indicates) a resource for the second uplink channel 225-a. The UE 115 may then transmit the event-based beam report via the second uplink channel 325-a. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may transmit a second PUCCH 320-b that requests resources for retransmissions of the event-based beam report via a second uplink channel 325-b. The network entity may receive the request for the second uplink channel 325-b and may transmit a DCI which includes a grant of resources for the second uplink channel 325-b occurring within the time duration Y. The UE 115 may transmit the retransmission of the event-based beam report within the time duration Y via the resources allocated for the second uplink channel 325-b. The UE 115 may maintain the event-based beam report until the expiration of the time duration Y, and may discard the event-based beam report after expiration of the time duration Y.
[0079] In a second mode of beam based reporting (e.g., “mode B” ) , after the triggering event, the reference point, and the beginning of the time duration Y, the UE 115 may transmit a first PUCCH 320-a which indicates a pre-configured resource for a second uplink channel 325-a (e.g., a PUCCH, a PUSCH, or both) that the UE 115 will use to transmit the event-based beam report associated with the event 310. After transmission of the first PUCCH 320-a, the UE 115 may transmit the event-based beam report via the second uplink channel 325-a. In some examples, the UE may select an additional resource for an additional second uplink channel for a retransmission of the event-based beam report within the time duration Y. In such cases, the UE 115 may transmit a second PUCCH 320-b which indicates a pre-configured resource for a second uplink channel 325-b for transmission of the retransmission of the event-based beam report. After transmission of the second PUCCH 320-b, the UE 115 may retransmit the event-based beam report via the second uplink channel 325-b. The UE 115 may maintain the event-based beam report until the expiration of the time duration Y, and may discard the event-based beam report after expiration of the time duration Y.
[0080] In some implementations, the event 310 may be identified using a positive event evaluation from a total quantity of triggering events (e.g., a maximum quantity X of triggering events by the UE 115) . In some examples, the total quantity of triggering events may be counted within the events that share a same PUCCH resource, may be counted across all events occurring within a same serving cell, or may be counted across all events across all serving cells of the UE 115. Additionally, or alternatively, the total quantity of triggering events may be configured by a network entity based on an associated UE capability (e.g., the UE 115 may be capable of storing or triggering a threshold quantity of events) . In some cases, the UE 115 may identify a quantity of events that exceeds the total quantity of triggering events (e.g., the UE 115 may identify a quantity of events that exceeds a maximum quantity of allowed triggering events) , and may drop one or more triggering events. In some examples, the total quantity of triggering events may be one or more (X+1) th triggering events, or may be events that conflict with other CSI reports (e.g., based on resource conflicts or CSI processing unit (CPU) processing resource conflicts) . To drop the one or more triggering events, the UE 115 may apply one or more dropping rules, which may be predefined or network-configured. For example, the UE 115 may drop the oldest event (e.g., the event that occurred a longest time duration ago) or the latest event (e.g., the event that occurred most recently) , or the UE 115 may drop events based on a relative priority ordering associated with the events (e.g., the UE 115 may drop the events starting with the event having the lowest relative priority) . Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may drop an event for which a second uplink channel transmission has occurred M times for the event, where M is a quantity that is pre-defined or configured by the network. For example, if M is equal to one, then the UE 115 may drop events for which at least one second uplink channel transmission was performed.
[0081] In some aspects, the UE 115 may determine the reference point 315 based on various timing aspects associated with a triggering event. In some examples, the UE115 may determine the reference point 315 as the positive event evaluation timing, or where the UE 115 first detects the event. In some examples, the UE 115 may determine the reference point 315 as a time of the last measurement resource transmission. In some examples, the reference point 315 may be the time of the transmission of the first PUCCH 320-a (e.g., a first PUCCH transmission opportunity) , or a time in which the UE 115 receives a first DCI (e.g., a first downlink resource associated with the first DCI) that schedules the second uplink channel 325-a for the first mode of event-based beam reporting. In some examples, the reference point 315 may be a transmission time of the second uplink channel 325-a (e.g., a second PUCCH transmission opportunity or a second PUSCH transmission opportunity) .
[0082] In some aspects, the UE 115 may determine the time duration Y based on various timing aspects. In some examples, the time duration Y may be configured as a constant time value (e.g., a quantity of OFDM symbols, a quantity of time slots, a quantity of subframes or frames, a quantity of seconds or milliseconds, among other timing units) . In some examples, the time duration Y may be a variable value that the UE 115 determines based on the triggering event, for example, the time duration Y may be based on N-th available first PUCCH opportunities or second uplink channel opportunities across triggering events, or actual second uplink channel transmissions of the event. In some examples, the time duration Y may be network-configured (e.g., dynamically configured, where values of the time duration Y may change for different triggering events) , or the time duration Y may be based on UE capability (e.g., the UE 115 may indicate a capability for a threshold time duration Y supported based on memory capacity, battery life and / or performance metrics, among other capabilities) . In some aspects, the time duration Y may be either a constant time value or a variable value based on network or UE-side configuration (e.g., the time duration Y may be the shorter duration of the constant time value or the variable value) .
[0083] In some aspects, the UE 115 may have a quantity of resources for processing event-based beam reports (e.g., CSI reports) , and may use CPUs or CSI processing units in order to process the event-based beam reports. In some examples, CPUs may be occupied during the time duration Y. In some examples, the UE 115 may refrain from counting CPUs after sending the event-based beam report associated with the time duration Y (e.g., the UE 115 may count CPUs up until transmission of the event-based beam report and may stop counting CPUs after transmission of the event-based beam report) .
[0084] Figure 4 shows an example of a signaling configuration 400 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. For example, the signaling configuration 400 may support wireless communications signaling between a UE 115 and a network entity 105, each of which may be examples of corresponding UEs 115 and network entities 105 described with reference to Figures 1 through 3. In some aspects, the signaling configuration 400 may support signaling that enables or supports event-based beam reporting.
[0085] For a first mode of event-based beam reporting (e.g., “mode A” ) , the UE 115 may receive reference signaling to monitor ongoing communications quality. In some cases, the UE 115 may identify multiple events (e.g., multiple triggering events, multiple triggered events) that satisfy an event trigger (e.g., a beam quality such as RSRP or RSRQ falls below a threshold) including, for example, a first event 405-a, a second event 405-b, and a third event 405-c. After identifying the triggering events, the UE 115 may transmit a first PUCCH which requests a resource for a second uplink channel (e.g., a PUCCH, a PUSCH, or both) to carry an event-based beam report associated with at least one of the triggering events. The network entity 105 may receive the request for the second uplink channel, and in some implementations, may transmit a DCI message 410 that selectively requests the UE 115 to transmit a particular event-based beam report 415 associated with a particular triggering event. For example, the network entity 105 may request a particular event-based beam report 415 associated with the first event 405-a, with the second event 405-b, or the third event 405-c. In some examples, the DCI message 410 may include the request for the particular event-based beam report 415 (e.g., a request for an event-based beam report associated with the first event 405-a, the second event 405-b, or the third event 405-c) along with an indication of a resource for transmission of the particular event-based beam report 415 via a second uplink channel. In some examples, the DCI message 410 may be an uplink DCI, or a DCI that includes an uplink grant for the second uplink channel conveying the particular event-based beam report 415.
[0086] In some examples, the DCI message 410 may distinguish between a new transmission of a triggered report (e.g., the DCI message 410 may request that the UE 115 transmits an event-based beam report that the UE 115 has not previously transmitted) , and retransmission of a transmitted report (e.g., the DCI message 410 may request that the UE 115 retransmits a previously transmitted event-based beam report) . In some cases, the request for a new transmission of a triggered report may include a beam report associated with a new triggering event or a new and / or initial transmission of a previously deprioritized report (e.g., a report that was previously deprioritized for transmission by the UE 115 based on prioritization among multiple triggering events) .
[0087] In some examples, the DCI message 410 may distinguish between a transmission of a triggered report that is different from a previously transmitted report and a retransmission of a previous report. For example, if the DCI message 410 requests transmission of a triggered report that is different from a previously transmitted report, the report may include a new and / or initial transmission of a new triggering event, a new and / or initial transmission of a deprioritized report (e.g., a report that was previously deprioritized based on prioritization among multiple triggering events) , or a retransmission of a report with contents different from the most recently transmitted report. In some cases, the UE 115 may prioritize transmission of a deprioritized event that has missed one or more second uplink channel opportunities over transmission of a report associated with a newly detected event.
[0088] In some examples, the DCI message 410 may include one or more parameters that distinguish between whether the DCI message 410 requests a new transmission of a triggered report, a retransmission of a triggered report, a transmission of a triggered report that is different from the previous report, and a retransmission of a previous report. For example, the DCI message 410 may include one or more values of a null data indicator (NDI) field, an uplink shared channel (ULSCH) indicator field, a HARQ-ID field, or any combination thereof, which may indicate different requests for a same aperiodic trigger state identifier of the DCI message 410. For example, if the value of an NDI field of the DCI message 410 is “1, ” the UE 115 may transmit a new transmission of a triggered report, and if the value of NDI field is “0, ” the UE 115 may transmit a retransmission of a previous report, or vice versa. Additionally, or alternatively, if the value of an NDI field of the DCI message 410 is “1, ” the UE 115 may transmit a transmission of a triggered report that is different from the previous report, and if the value of NDI field is “0, ” the UE 115 may transmit a retransmission of a previous report, or vice versa. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may transmit a new transmission of a triggered report for a first received DCI having a first aperiodic trigger state ID with any value of the NDI or ULSCH indicator and may transit a retransmission of the previous report for a flipped value of the NDI or ULSCH indicator.
[0089] In some cases, the UE 115 may receive a request for an event-driven beam report that the UE 115 does not have. For example, the network entity 105 may transmit a request for an event-based beam report for another new triggering event that did not occur at the UE 115, or the network entity may falsely detect a first PUCCH from the UE 115. In such cases, the UE 115 may respond to the network entity 105 by retransmitting one or more reports that were previously transmitted by the UE 115 (and are still available at the UE 115) , by transmitting a known sequence of bits (e.g., an “all zero” sequence of bits) that indicate that the UE 115 does not have a new report to send, by transmitting a report that is based on the latest measurement results at the UE 115 (irrespective of whether an event was triggered at the UE 115) , or by transmitting one or more deprioritized reports stored at the UE 115. Alternatively, the UE 115 may not transmit a report in response to the request.
[0090] Figure 5 shows an example of a process flow 500 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. For example, the process flow 500 may illustrate a process flow or communications flow between a UE 115 (e.g., which may be an example of UEs 115 described herein) and a network entity 105 (e.g., which may be an example of network entities 105 described herein) .
[0091] Alternative examples of the following may be implemented. Some steps are performed in a different order than described herein or are not performed at all. In some implementations, steps may include additional features not mentioned below, or additional steps may be added. Further, although the UE 115 and the network entity 105 are illustrated performing the operations of the process flow 500, some aspects of some operations may also be performed by one or more other network functions, network entities, or wireless communications devices.
[0092] At signal flow operation 505, the UE 115 may detect a set of events that trigger generation of a respective set of event-based beam reports. In some examples, the UE 115 may transmit UE capability signaling that indicates a total quantity of triggering events (e.g., X events) supported by the UE 115, and may receive one or more messages from the network entity 105 that indicate the total quantity of triggering events configured for the UE 115. In some examples, the UE 115 may drop one or more triggering events based on a quantity of events being triggered beyond a threshold quantity of triggering events.
[0093] In some cases, the UE 115 may determine to drop the one or more triggering events based on application of one or more dropping rules. For example, the UE 115 may drop the one or more events based on the one or more events being triggered prior to a threshold quantity of triggering events or being triggered after the threshold quantity of triggering events. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may drop the one or more events based on the one or more events having lowest respective priorities out of the total quantity of triggering events. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may drop the one or more events based on the one or more events being associated with a threshold quantity of uplink channel transmissions (for example, uplink transmissions associated with the second uplink channel 325-a as described with reference to Figure 3) .
[0094] In some examples, the set of events may include a threshold quantity of events that share a first uplink control channel resource (e.g., the first PUCCH 320-adescribed with reference to Figure 3) , a total quantity of triggering events within an individual serving cell configured for the UE 115, or total quantity of triggering events within a set of serving cells configured for the UE 115.
[0095] At signal flow operation 510, the UE 115 may determine, for a first triggering event of the set of events, a time window (e.g., time duration Y described with reference to Figure 3) that spans a threshold duration of time after a reference time. In some examples, the threshold duration of time may be a quantity of OFDM symbols, a quantity of slots, a quantity of subframes or radio frames, or a quantity of time units such as a quantity of seconds or milliseconds. In some examples, the threshold duration of time may be a duration that spans a threshold quantity of uplink channel opportunities associated with the respective set of event-based beam reports, or a duration that spans a threshold quantity of uplink channel transmissions associated with the respective set of event-based beam reports. In some examples, the threshold duration of time may be based on UE capability, for example, the UE 115 may transmit UE capability signaling indicating a length of time that the UE 115 supports as the threshold duration of time, and the network entity 105 may configure the threshold duration of time based on the UE capability signaling. In some examples, CPU processing resource may be occupied for the duration of time, or the UE 115 may count the CPU processing resources for a duration of time occurring prior to transmission of the event-based beam report.
[0096] In some examples, the reference time may be a time in which the UE 115 detects an event that triggers generation of the event-based beam report (e.g., time of detection of event 310) , a time of a temporally last reference signal transmission corresponding to a measurement resource (e.g., a time of a last reference signal transmission of the reference signaling 305) , a transmission time of a first scheduled PUCCH (e.g., a time of transmission of the first PUCCH 320-a) , a time of reception of a DCI after transmission of the first scheduled PUCCH, or a transmission time of a second uplink channel carrying the event-based beam report (e.g., a transmission time of the second uplink channel 325-a) .
[0097] At signal flow operation 515, the UE 115 may perform one or more transmissions of an event-based beam report associated with the first triggering event. In such cases, the UE 115 may maintain the event-based beam report in memory for the threshold duration spanned by the time window. In some aspects, the UE 115 may perform the one or more transmissions of the event-based beam report within the time window. For example, the one or more transmissions of the event-based beam report may include an initial transmission of the event-based beam report, or the initial transmission of the event-based beam report and one or more retransmissions of the event-based beam report.
[0098] At signal flow operation 520, the UE 115 may discard the event-based beam report associated with the first triggering event after an expiration of the time window.. In some examples, the UE 115 may discard the event-based beam report after expiration of the time window regardless of whether the one or more transmissions of the event-based beam report are successfully transmitted.
[0099] Figure 6 shows an example of a process flow 600 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. For example, the process flow 600 may illustrate a process flow or communications flow between a UE 115 (e.g., which may be an example of UEs 115 described herein) and a network entity 105 (e.g., which may be an example of network entities 105 described herein) .
[0100] Alternative examples of the following may be implemented. Some steps are performed in a different order than described herein or are not performed at all. In some implementations, steps may include additional features not mentioned below, or additional steps may be added. Further, although the UE 115 and the network entity 105 are illustrated performing the operations of the process flow 600, some aspects of some operations may also be performed by one or more other network functions, network entities, or wireless communications devices.
[0101] At signal flow operation 605, the UE 115 may detect a set of events (e.g., the first event 405-a, the second event 405-b, the third event 405-c, as described with reference to Figure 4) that trigger generation of a respective set of event-based beam reports.
[0102] At signal flow operation 610, the UE 115 may transmit a first uplink control channel transmission (e.g., a first PUCCH) that includes a request for scheduled resources for a second uplink channel for transmission of the respective set of event-based beam reports.
[0103] At signal flow operation 615, the UE 115 may receive one or more DCI messages (e.g., DCI message 410 described with reference to Figure 4) that include the scheduled resources for the second uplink channel. The one or more DCI messages may also indicate a request for transmission of an event-based beam report corresponding to a triggering event of the plurality of events. In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report included in the one or more DCI messages may include a request for an initial transmission of the event-based beam report or a retransmission of the event-based beam report corresponding to the triggering event. In some examples, the triggering event may be a new triggering event or a deprioritized triggering event. In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report included in the one or more DCI messages may include a request for transmission of the event-based beam report corresponding to the triggering event. In such cases, the event-based beam report may be different from a previously transmitted event-based beam report or may be a retransmission of the previously transmitted event-based beam report.
[0104] In some examples, the one or more DCI messages may include one or more fields (e.g., an NDI field, a ULCH indicator field, a HARQ-ID field) that indicate the request for transmission of the event-based beam report. For example, the one or more fields may include a first field value that indicates a request for an initial transmission of the event-based beam report, and a second field value that indicates a retransmission of the event-based beam report. Additionally, or alternatively, the one or more fields may include a first field value that indicates a request for an event-based beam report that is different from a previously transmitted event-based beam report, and a second field value that indicates a request for retransmission of the previously transmitted event-based beam report.
[0105] At signal flow operation 620, the UE 115 may transmit, using the second uplink channel, the event-based beam report corresponding to the triggering event of the set of triggering events (e.g., the particular event-based beam report 415 described with reference to Figure 4) . In cases where the request for transmission of the event-based beam report is an erroneous request from the network entity 105 that requests an event-based beam report that the UE 115 does not have, the UE 115 may transmit a previously-reported event-based beam report that corresponds to one or more previously-triggering events, or the UE 115 may transmit one or more messages that include a set of bits that indicate that the UE 115 does not have the requested event-based beam report, or the UE 115 may transmit a beam report that includes a set of most recent beam measurements, or the UE 115 may transmit one or more deprioritized beam reports.
[0106] Figure 7 shows an example of a processing system 700 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. A processing system 700 may be an example of a processing system 140 (such as of a UE 115) and may include an event-based beam reporting component 725, a time window evaluation component 730, a UE capability configuration and signaling component 740, an event dropping component 745, or any combination thereof. A processing system 700, or various component thereof, may be an example of means for performing (such as a means for causing a UE 115 to perform) various techniques described herein.
[0107] The event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to detect, at the UE, a set of multiple events that trigger generation of a respective set of event-based beam reports. The time window evaluation component 730 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to determine, for a first triggering event of the set of multiple events, a time window that spans a threshold duration of time after a reference time. In some examples, the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to perform one or more transmissions of an event-based beam report associated with the first triggering event, the one or more transmissions occurring within the time window, where the UE maintains the event-based beam report in memory for the threshold duration spanned by the time window. The event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to discard the event-based beam report associated with the first triggering event after an expiration of the time window.
[0108] In some examples, the UE capability configuration and signaling component 740 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit UE capability signaling indicative of a total quantity of triggering events supported by the UE, the total quantity of triggering events corresponding to the set of multiple events. In some examples, the UE capability configuration and signaling component 740 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to receive one or more messages indicative of the total quantity of triggering events configured for the UE based on the UE capability signaling.
[0109] In some examples, the set of multiple events include a threshold quantity of triggering events, and the event dropping component 745 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to drop one or more events that are triggered in excess of the threshold quantity of triggering events. In some examples, the UE 115 may drop one or more events in accordance with one or more dropping rules, including at least one of: dropping the one or more events based on the one or more events being triggered prior to the threshold quantity of triggering events, or being triggered after the threshold quantity of triggering events. In some examples, dropping the one or more events based on the one or more events having a lowest priority. In some examples, dropping the one or more events based on the one or more events being associated with a threshold quantity of uplink channel transmissions.
[0110] In some examples, a threshold quantity of events that are allocated for transmission via a first uplink control channel resource, a total quantity of triggering events within an individual serving cell configured for the UE, or a total quantity of triggering events within a set of multiple serving cells configured for the UE.
[0111] In some examples, the reference time may be a time that the UE detects an event that triggers generation of an event-based beam report, a time of a temporally last reference signal transmission corresponding to a measurement resource, a transmission time of a first scheduled PUCCH, a time of reception of a DCI after transmission of the first scheduled PUCCH, or a transmission time of a second uplink channel carrying the event-based beam report.
[0112] In some examples, the threshold duration of time may include a quantity of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, a quantity of slots, a quantity of subframes or radio frames, or a quantity of time units, a duration that span a threshold quantity of uplink channel opportunities associated with the respective set of event-based beam reports, or a duration that spans a threshold quantity of uplink channel transmissions associated with the respective set of event-based beam reports.
[0113] In some examples, the UE capability configuration and signaling component 740 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit UE capability signaling indicative of a length of time supported for the threshold duration of time. In some examples, the UE capability configuration and signaling component 740 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to receive an indication of the threshold duration of time that is configured in accordance with the UE capability signaling.
[0114] In some examples, CPU processing resources are occupied for a duration of the time window, or the central processing unit (CPU) processing resources are counted for a duration of time occurring prior to transmission of an event-based beam report. In some examples, the event-based beam report is discarded after the expiration of the time window regardless of whether the one or more transmissions of the event-based beam report are successfully transmitted. In some examples, the one or more transmissions of the event-based beam report include an initial transmission of the event-based beam report, or the initial transmission of the event-based beam report and one or more retransmissions of the event-based beam report.
[0115] In some examples, the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to detect a set of multiple events that trigger generation of a respective set of event-based beam reports. In some examples, the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit a first uplink control channel transmission including a request for scheduled resources for a second uplink channel for transmission of the respective set of event-based beam reports. In some examples, the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to receive one or more DCI messages that include the scheduled resources for the second uplink channel, the one or more DCI messages further indicating a request for transmission of an event-based beam report corresponding to a triggering event of the set of multiple events. In some examples, the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit, via the second uplink channel, the event-based beam report corresponding to the triggering event of the set of multiple events in accordance with the one or more DCI messages.
[0116] In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report included in the one or more DCI messages includes a request for an initial transmission of the event-based beam report or a retransmission of the event-based beam report corresponding to the triggering event. In some examples, the triggering event includes a new triggering event or a deprioritized triggering event.
[0117] In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report included in the one or more DCI messages includes a request for transmission of the event-based beam report corresponding to the triggering event, the event-based beam report being different from a previously transmitted event-based beam report or being a retransmission of the previously transmitted event-based beam report. In some examples, the triggering event includes a new triggering event or a deprioritized triggering event.
[0118] In some examples, the one or more DCI messages includes one or more fields that indicate the request for transmission of the event-based beam report. In some examples, a first field value indicates a request for an initial transmission of the event-based beam report, and a second field value indicates a retransmission of the event-based beam report. In some examples, the one or more fields include an NDI field, an uplink shared channel indicator field, a HARQ-ID field, or any combination thereof. In some examples, the one or more DCI messages include one or more fields that indicate the request for transmission of the event-based beam report. In some examples, a first field value indicates a request for an event-based beam report that is different from a previously transmitted event-based beam report, and a second field value indicates a request for retransmission of the previously transmitted event-based beam report. In some examples, the one or more fields include an NDI field, an uplink shared channel indicator field, a HARQ-ID field, or any combination thereof.
[0119] In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report includes an erroneous request for an event-based beam report that the UE lacks, and the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to retransmit a previously-reported event-based beam report corresponding to one or more previously-triggering events. In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report includes an erroneous request for an event-based beam report that the UE lacks, and the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit one or more messages includes a set of bits indicative of a lack of additional event-based beam reports present at the UE. In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report includes an erroneous request for an event-based beam report that the UE lacks, and the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit a beam report including a set of most recent beam measurements. In some examples, the request for transmission of the event-based beam report includes an erroneous request for an event-based beam report that the UE lacks, and the event-based beam reporting component 725 may be configured to cause the UE 115 to transmit one or more deprioritized event-based beam reports.

[0128] At 905, the method may include detecting, at the UE, a plurality of events that trigger generation of a respective set of event-based beam reports. In some examples, aspects of the operations of 905 may be performed by an event-based beam reporting component 725.
[0129] At 910, the method may include determining, for a first triggering event of the set of multiple events, a time window that spans a threshold duration of time after a reference time. In some examples, aspects of the operations of 910 may be performed by a time window evaluation component 730.
[0130] At 915, the method may include performing one or more transmissions of an event-based beam report associated with the first triggering event, the one or more transmissions occurring within the time window, where the UE maintains the event-based beam report in memory for the threshold duration spanned by the time window. In some examples, aspects of the operations of 915 may be performed by an event-based beam reporting component 725.
[0131] At 920, the method may include discarding the event-based beam report associated with the first triggering event after an expiration of the time window. In some examples, aspects of the operations of 920 may be performed by an event-based beam reporting component 725.
[0132] Figure 10 shows an example of a method 1000 that supports postponed event-based beam reporting. Operations of the method 1000 may be performed by a UE or its components (such as using a processing system configured to cause the UE 115 to perform one or more of the operations) as described herein.
[0133] At 1005, the method may include detecting, by the UE, a plurality of events that trigger generation of a respective set of event-based beam reports. In some examples, aspects of the operations of 1005 may be performed by an event-based beam reporting component 725.
