[0050] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In the communication environment 100, a plurality of communication devices, including a terminal device 110 and a network device 120, can communicate with each other. It should be understood that, in the other embodiments, the terminal device 110 / network device 120 may be replaced with any of: a terminal device, a network device, an OTT (over the top, a server) , an operation administration and maintenance (OAM) (server) , an edge cloud (server) , a neutral site, transmission reception point (TRP) , or core network (CN, such as, location management function, LMF) and so on. In present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0051] In the example of FIG. 1, a direction from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as uplink, while a direction from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink. In downlink, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) , and the network device 120 may transmit downlink transmission to the terminal device 110. Correspondingly, in uplink, the network device 120 is an RX device (or a receiver) and the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) , and the terminal device 110 may transmit uplink transmission to the network device 120.

[0052] Further, in FIG. 1, one or more ML models may be deployed at the terminal device 110 and / or the network device 120.

[0053] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections shown in FIG. 1 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of devices configured to implementing example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0054] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 may communicate with each other via a channel such as a wireless communication channel on an air interface (e.g., Uu interface) or a PC5 interface. The wireless communication channel may comprise a sidelink, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) , a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) , a physical random-access channel (PRACH) , a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) , a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) . Of course, any other suitable channels are also feasible.

[0055] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0056] In the wireless communications, beam failure detection (BFD) (also may be called as link failure detection) may help UE top recovery the connection the NW and thus improve the communication performance. Example processes of BFD will be discussed with reference to FIG. 2A to FIG. 2E.

[0057] At Step 1, a beam failure detection procedure will be performed. Refer to FIG. 2A, which illustrates an example processes of beam failure detection procedure. In operation, the UE detects the quality (e.g., block error rate (BLER) ) of the current beam (of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) ) and compares it with a predefined threshold. The current beam actually refers to two periodic channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) resources (i.e., BFD-RSs, q0) with 1 / 2 ports and with frequency density equal to 1 or 3 REs per RB. In one example, The 2 P CSI-RSs may be configured by radio resource control (RRC) explicitly. In another example, the 2 P CSI-RSs may be determined implicitly according to 2 P CSI-RS resource IDs with the same values as the RS IDs corresponding to the quasi co-location (QCL) -TypeD RSs in the TCI states for 2 control resource sets (CORESETs) that the UE uses for monitoring PDCCHs.

[0058] If the current 2 beam qualities are worse than the threshold, the UE will inform this event ( “BFI” for short) to the higher layer. At this time, increment BFI_COUNTER (counter for beam failure instance indication) by 1. If this event occurs N (e.g., 2) times continuously, “beam failure” may be declared, where a value of N is configured by “beamFailureInstanceMaxCount” . At this time, BFI_COUNTER >= N. Further, if the BFD-RS is reconfigured by upper layers, set BFI_COUNTER to 0.

[0059] More details about Step 1 are discussed as below. 1> if beam failure instance indication has been received from lower layers: 2> start or restart the beamFailureDetectionTimer; 2> increment BFI_COUNTER by 1; 2> if BFI_COUNTER>=beamFailureInstanceMaxCount; 3> if the serving Cell is SCell: 4> trigger a BFR for this Serving cell; 3> else: 4> initiate a Random Access procedure (see clause 5.1) on the SpCell. 1> If the beamFailureDetectionTimer expires; or 1> If the beamFailureDetectionTimer, beamFailureInstanceMaxCount, or any of the  reference signals used for beam failure detection is reconfigured by upper layers associated with this Serving Cell: 2> set BFI_COUNTER to 0.

[0060] At Step 2, a new beam identification (NBI) procedure will be performed. Refer to FIG. 2B, which illustrates an example processes of beam failure detection procedure. In operation, UE may be configured with a set of up to 64 periodic CSI-RS / synchronization signal block (SSB) resources by RRC, wherein the set of CSI-RS / SSB resources is used as a set of candidate beams, i.e., q1.

[0061] Upon request from higher layers, lower layers measures the L1-RSRPs corresponding to all beams (i.e., RSs) in q1 and provides for higher layers beams (i.e., provide beam IDs (i.e., CRI or SSB resource indicator (SSBRI) ) and / or L1-RSRPs corresponding to the beams) whose L1-RSRP is larger than or equal to a predefined threshold (i.e., Qin_LR) .

[0062] As illustrated in FIG. 2C and FIG. 2D, for PCell or PSCell (contention free random access (CFRA) -based) , at Step 3, a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) procedure will be performed. In operation, the UE reports the selected new beam to the gNB according to a pre-configured physical random access channel (PRACH) transmission corresponding to the new beam (step 1 in FIG. 2D) , and the gNB knows what is the new beam based on the PRACH transmission from the UE. At step 4, beam failure recovery response (BFRR) may be monitored. Specifically, the UE starts to monitor the PDCCHs in CORESETs dedicated to BFR (CORESET-BFR) after a period of time after the PRACH transmission. The gNB will use the new beam to transmit the PDCCHs in CORESET-BFR. The downlink control information (DCI) format corresponding to the PDCCHs is scrambled by cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) or modulation coding scheme (MCS) -C-RNTI. If the PRACH transmission in slot n, the UE starts to monitor the PDCCHs in slot n+4+2u and within a window configured by RRC, wherein u is the SCS configuration for the PRACH transmission and the window is provided by ra-ResponseWindow. After 28 symbols after the UE receives the BFRR (i.e., the first PDCCH monitored by the UE) , the UE will apply the new beam to all PDCCHs (in all CORESETs) , scheduled PDSCHs and PUCCHs.

[0063] As illustrated in FIG. 2D and FIG. 2E, for PCell or PSCell (contention-based random access (CBRA) -based) , at Step 3: beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) , the UE uses Msg3 of CBRA to transmit the MAC-CE carrying the new beam information (i.e., Step 3 in FIG. 2D) . At step 4, beam failure recovery response (BFRR) may be monitored. Specifically, the UE monitors the PDCCH that determines the completion of the CBRA procedure. After 28 symbols after the UE receives the BFRR (i.e., the above PDCCH) , the UE will apply the new beam to all PDCCHs (in all CORESETs) , scheduled PDSCHs and PUCCHs.

[0064] In some solutions, q0 may be configured by failureDetectionResourcesToAddModList in RadioLinkMonitoringConfig in BWP-DownlinkDedicated in ServingCellConfig. One example of failureDetectionResourcesToAddModList is illustrated as below.

[0065] q1 may be configured by candidateBeamRSList in BeamFailureRecoveryConfig in BWP-UplinkDedicated in ServingCellConfig. One example of candidateBeamRSList is illustrated as below.

[0066] In Rel-20, AI / ML-based BFR may be considered. Specifically, a new beam indication (NBI) procedure may be performed based on AI / ML-based beam prediction (e.g., spatial-domain beam prediction) . For example shown in the FIG. 3, UE does not need to measure RSRPs of all candidate beams in q1 (i.e., a set of candidate beams) . UE only needs to measure RSRPs of a subset of candidate beams in q1, and can predict RSRPs of all candidate beams in q1 (actually, other candidate beams in q1) based on the measured RSRPs and AI / ML model. And then evaluate the (measured or predicted) RSRPs of all candidate beams in q1. Compared to legacy NBI, AI / ML-based NBI can significantly reduce the latency of NBI, and further reduce the latency of beam interruption.

[0067] However, for AI / ML-based BFR, there may be some problems that need to be solved. First, configuration (e.g., candidate beams, associated ID) about AI / ML-based NBI and enabling about AI / ML-based NBI are not clear. Second, in general, the top-1 predicted beam should be as q_new. However, the beam prediction accuracy corresponding to top-1 predicted beam may be not good, which may cause BFRQ failure. Furthermore, this will result in longer beam interruption time. Third, due to the beam prediction accuracy corresponding to top-1 predicted beam may be not good, in AI / ML-based BFR, (further) beam sweeping for the top-K (where K is usually larger than 1) predicted beams may be necessary, which may require UE to report some information about predicted candidate beam (after the BFRR) . Therefore, some example embodiments will be discussed with reference to FIG. 4A and FIG. 4B, which illustrates a signaling flows 400A and 400B for communication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flows 400A and 400B will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0068] In the following descriptions, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0069] It is to be understood that the operations at the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 should be coordinated. In other words, the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 should have common understanding about configurations, parameters and so on. Such common understanding may be implemented by any suitable interactions between the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 or both the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 applying the same rule / policy. In the following, although some operations are described from a perspective of the terminal device 110, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the network device 120. Similarly, although some operations are described from a perspective of the network device 120, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the terminal device 110. Merely for brevity, some of the same or similar contents are omitted here.

[0070] Reference is made to FIG. 4A. In operation, in response to detecting a beam failure, the terminal device 110 may determine (410) a set of prediction results corresponding to a second set of RS resources (such as, Set A) based on a set of measurement results corresponding to a first set of RS resources (such as, Set B) . In some embodiments, each prediction result may comprise at least one of a prediction value (such as, RSRP value) or a prediction probability (such as, probability of candidate beam to be top-K beam (s) in the q1, where K is an integer that is larger than 0) .

[0071] In the following, the determination of the first set of RS resources will be discussed.

[0072] In one example, the first set of RS resources may be determined based on a first list of RS indicators corresponding to the first set of RS resources (such as, with a parameter candidateBeamRSListformeasurement) . Alternatively, or in addition, in another example, the first set of RS resources may be determined based on a mapping between the first set of RS resources and the second set of RS resources, and / or based on the second set of RS resources. For example, the mapping between the first set of RS resources and the second set of RS resources may be a bitmap, and the value of a beam is set to 1 in the bitmap corresponding to the second set of RS resources may be used to indicate the beam is included in the first set of RS resources. Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the first set of RS resources may be determined based on a first associated identity (ID) associated with the first set of RS resources.

[0073] In the following, the determination of the second set of RS resources will be discussed.

[0074] In one example, the second set of RS resources may be determined based on a second list of RS indicators corresponding to the second set of RS resources (such as, with a parameter candidateBeamRSList) . Alternatively, or in addition, in another example, the second set of RS resources may be determined based on a second associated ID associated with the second set of RS resources. Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the second set of RS resources may be determined based on the first set of RS resources.

[0075] In some embodiments, the first associated ID and the second associated ID may be the same associated ID (i.e., the first set and the second set may be associated with a same associated ID) . Alternatively, or in addition, in other cases, the first associated ID and the second associated ID may be two separate associated IDs.

[0076] In some embodiments, the first associated ID and / or the second associated ID may be comprised in ( “comprised in” equals to “associated with” ) any configuration (s) , for example, a configuration of radio link monitoring (or beam failure detection) , a configuration of an RS list of monitoring beams (e.g., beam failure detection (BFD) RS resources (i.e., q0) , or radio link monitoring RS resources) , a configuration of beam failure recovery (BeamFailureRecoveryConfig) , a configuration of an RS list of candidate beams (candidateBeamRSList) , a configuration of an RS list of candidate beams for prediction (candidateBeamRSListforprediction) , or a configuration of an RS list of candidate beams for measurement (candidateBeamRSListformeasurement) .

[0077] Furthermore, in order to ensure the configuration is valid, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may expect that the first and / or the second associated ID is associated with at least one applicable and / or activated CSI related configuration. Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may expect that the first and / or the second associated ID is associated with at least one inference related parameter that belongs to the at least one applicable and / or activated inference related parameter.

[0078] Further, after the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set of RS resources and the at least one RS resource from the second set of RS resources are determined, the terminal device 110 may transmit (420-1) a message indicating the at least one RS resource (such as, q_new) to a network device 120.

[0079] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine (415) the at least one RS resource (such as, q_new) from the second set of RS resources based on the set of prediction results, each prediction result may comprise at least one of a prediction value or a prediction probability. Further, in some embodiments, a prediction value of each of the at least one RS resource may be higher than or equal to a threshold. Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, a prediction probability of each of the at least one RS resource may be higher than or equal to a threshold.

[0080] In some embodiments, the AI / ML-based BFR may be activated conditionally, as discussed below. In one example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if the second set is associated with the first set. Alternatively, or in addition, in another example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if the second set is configured for prediction. Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if the second set is associated with at least one associated ID.

[0081] Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if the first set that is associated with the second set is associated with at least one associated ID.

[0082] Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if a configuration of beam failure recovery associated with the second set is associated with at least one associated ID.

[0083] Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if a set of radio link monitoring associated with the second set is associated with at least one associated ID.

[0084] Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if a set of monitoring RSs (e.g., q0) associated with the second set is associated with at least one associated ID.

[0085] Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if the first set that is associated with the second set is configured for measurement.

[0086] Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine the set of prediction results corresponding to the second set if an indicator that indicates the terminal device to report the at least one RS resource based on a beam prediction functionality.

[0087] It should be noted that the above conditions are merely for the purpose of illustration, and other conditions may be used in other embodiments.

[0088] Merely for a better understanding about the above processes discussed with reference to FIG. 4A, some example embodiments are further discussed in the following, which should not be interpreted as any limitation to the embodiments of the present disclosure. Further, UE is used as an example of the terminal device and the NW is used as an example of the network device.

[0089] In some embodiments, for link recovery procedure (e.g., beam failure recovery) , UE may be configured with a set of candidate beams (i.e., q1) (e.g., a set of periodic CSI-RS resources, or a set of SSB indexes) , and at least one new beam (i.e., q_new) may be determined from the q1 (i.e., the second set of RS resources discussed above) .

[0090] In some embodiments, the q1 may be associated with at least one set of measurement beams (represented by ‘q2’ , i.e., the first set of RS resources discussed above) . Relationship between the q1 and the q2 may comprise at least one of the following: the q2 is a subset of the q1; the q2 is a subset of the q1; and the q2 is a subset of the q1.

[0091] In some embodiments, UE may determine the q2 may be based on (i.e., the at least one q2 may be indicated by) a set of CSI-RS resource IDs or SSB indexes included in the q2, for example, as shown in the following block, where candidateBeamRSList corresponds to the q1, candidateBeamRSListformeasurement corresponds to the q2.

[0092] In some embodiments, UE may determine the q2 based on a mapping relationship between the q1 and the q2 and / or the q1, for example, a bitmap corresponding to the q1 may be used to indicate the beams included in the q2.

[0093] In some embodiments, UE may determine the q2 based on at least one associated ID, for example, UE may determine the q2 based on the at least one associated ID (e.g., configured in BeamFailureRecoveryConfig) .

[0094] Optionally, in some embodiments, UE may be configured with the q2, and the q1 may be determined based on the at least one of above methods, i.e., the q1 may be replaced with the q2. Merely for brevity, the same or similar contents are omitted here.

[0095] In some embodiments, in case of spatial domain beam prediction (i.e., BM-Case 1) , the q1 may correspond to the Set A, the q2 may correspond to the Set B, the configuration of associated ID may be to ensure consistence of NW-side additional condition (e.g., beam indexing, beam shape corresponding to the Set A or Set B) across model training and model inference.

[0096] In some embodiments, the q1 and q2 may be associated with separate associated IDs (maybe the same or different) . The at least one associated ID may be configured based on at least one of the following: configured in BeamFailureRecoveryConfig; configured in candidateBeamRSList (or candidateBeamRSListforprediction) , or candidateBeamRSListformeasurement.

[0097] In some embodiments, the q1 and q2 may be associated with shared associated ID. The at least one associated ID may be configured in BeamFailureRecoveryConfig.

[0098] In some embodiments, UE may expect that the at least one associated ID satisfies that the associated ID is associated with at least one CSI report configuration, which belongs a set of applicable, or / and activated CSI report configurations. Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, UE may expect that the at least one associated ID satisfies that the associated ID is associated with at least one inference related parameter, which belongs a set of applicable, or / and activated CSI report configurations.

[0099] In some embodiments, when the beam failure is declared by the higher layers in UE, for the lower layers (e.g., physical layer) in UE, upon request from the higher layers, if at least one of the following condition is fulfilled, UE may determine and / or provide to the higher layers candidate beam (s) in the q1, and the corresponding predicted RSRP (s) are larger than or equal to a threshold and / or the corresponding probability (ies) are larger than or equal to a threshold. Otherwise, UE may determine and / or provide candidate beam (s) in the q1 and the corresponding measured RSRP (s) are larger than or equal to a threshold.

[0100] In one example, the q1 may be associated with at least one q2. Alternatively, in another example, The q1 may be indicated not to be measured. In other words, the q1 may be indicated as a prediction (candidate) beam set. Alternatively, in a further example, the q1 may be associated with at least one associated ID. Alternatively, in a further example, the at least one q2 associated with the q1 may be associated with at least one associated ID. Alternatively, in a further example, the at least one q2 associated with the q1 may be indicated to be measured. In other words, the at least one q2 may be indicated as a measurement (candidate) beam set. Alternatively, in a further example, the BeamFailureRecoveryConfig, or / and the q1 may be associated with a new indicator indicating the above behavior (needs to be performed) . Alternatively, in a further example, UE may receive a new command indicating that the above behavior is to be performed.

[0101] For determination of predicted RSRP, UE may determine measured RSRPs of beams in the q2, and UE may determine predicted RSRPs of beams in the q1 based on the measured RSRPs of beams in the q2 (and AI / ML model) . And UE may determine the candidate beam (s) in the q1 and the corresponding predicted RSRP (s) that are larger than or equal to a threshold.

[0102] For determination of probability (e.g., probability of candidate beam to be top-K beam (s) in the q1, where K is an integer that is larger than 0) , Specifically, UE may determine measured RSRPs of beams in the q2. And UE may determine probabilities of beams in the q1 based on the measured RSRPs of beams in the q2 (and AI / ML model) . And UE may determine the candidate beam (s) in the q1 and the corresponding probability (ies) that are larger than or equal to a threshold.

[0103] Reference is now made to FIG. 4B. In operation, in response to detecting a beam failure, the terminal device 110 may determine (455) a set of prediction results corresponding to a second set of RS resources based on a set of measurement results corresponding to a first set of reference signal (RS) resources.

[0104] Then, the terminal device 110 may determine (460) at least one RS resource from the second set of RS resources. In some embodiments, a prediction value of each of the at least one RS resource may be higher than or equal to a threshold. Alternatively, or in addition, a prediction probability of each of the at least one RS resource is higher than or equal to a threshold.

[0105] Next, the terminal device 110 may transmit (465-1) a first beam failure recovery request associated with a first RS resource of the at least one RS resource to a network device 120. In one example, the beam failure recovery request may be associated with a physical random access channel (PRACH) resource. In another example, the beam failure recovery request may be associated with a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resource. In a further example, the beam failure recovery request may be associated with a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) resource.

[0106] In particular, the selection of the first RS resource may be based on multiple factors. In one example, the first RS resource may be determined from the at least one RS resource based on at least one prediction value corresponding to the at least one RS resource. In another example, the first RS resource may be determined from the at least one RS resource based on at least one prediction probability corresponding to the at least one RS resource. In a further example, the first RS resource may be determined from the at least one RS resource based on whether the first RS resource is comprised in the first set. In a further example, the first RS resource may be determined from the at least one RS resource based on a first measurement value of the first RS resource if the first RS resource is comprised in the first set.

[0107] Furthermore, based on the factors above, in some cases, the first RS resource may be associated with a largest prediction value of the at least one RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, the first RS resource may be associated with a largest prediction probability of the at least one RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, the first RS resource may be associated with a largest measurement value of the at least one RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, the first RS resource may be associated with whether an RS resource is comprised in the first set.

[0108] In some embodiments, after transmitting the first beam failure recovery request, the terminal device 110 may monitor (470) downlink control information (DCI) within a time window in a search space set for beam recovery.

[0109] In some embodiments, in response to failing to monitor the DCI within the time window, the terminal device 110 may transmit (475-1) a second beam failure recovery request associated with a second RS resource of the at least one RS resource to a network device 120. The second beam failure recovery request may be different from the first beam failure recovery request.

[0110] In particular, the selection of the second RS resource may be based on multiple factors. In one example, the second RS resource may be determined based on at least one prediction value corresponding to the at least one RS resource excluding the first RS resource. In another example, the second RS resource may be determined based on at least one prediction probability corresponding to the at least one RS resource excluding the first RS resource. In a further example, the second RS resource may be determined based on whether the second RS resource is comprised in the first set. In a further example, the second RS resource may be determined based on a second measurement value of the second RS resource if the second RS resource is comprised in the first set.

[0111] Furthermore, based on the factors above, in some cases, the second RS resource may be associated with a largest prediction value of the at least one RS resource excluding the first RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, the second RS resource may be associated with a largest prediction probability of the at least one RS resource excluding the first RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, the second RS resource may be associated with a largest measurement value of the at least one RS resource excluding the first RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, the second RS resource may be associated with whether an RS resource is comprised in the first set.

[0112] The transmission of the beam failure recovery request may be restricted in a time duration. In this case, the time duration may be controlled by a timer. In response to an expiry of the timer, the terminal device 110 may stop the transmission of the beam failure recovery request. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may start the timer at any time below. In one example, the terminal device 110 may start the timer at a time at which the first beam failure recovery request is transmitted. In another example, the terminal device 110 may start the timer at a time after a pre-defined time length from transmitting the first beam failure recovery request. In a further example, the terminal device 110 may start the timer at a time of an ending of a time window for monitoring the first beam failure recovery request. In a further example, the terminal device 110 may start the timer at a time at which the N-th beam failure recovery request is transmitted, wherein N is an integer that is larger than 1.

[0113] In some embodiments, in response to monitoring a downlink control information (DCI) for the beam failure recovery request, the terminal device 110 may stop the timer.

[0114] In some embodiments, in response to monitoring DCI for the beam failure recovery request associated with an RS resource of the at least one RS resource within a time duration (that is, the beam failure recovery request is confirmed by the network device 120) , the terminal device 110 may perform the following operations. In one example, the terminal device 110 may determine the RS resource is applicable for at least one uplink transmission and / or at least one downlink transmission. Alternatively, or in addition, in another example, the terminal device 110 may receive the at least one downlink transmission with at least one quasi co-location (QCL) parameter associated with the RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may transmit the at least one uplink transmission with a spatial filter associated with the RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine at least one pathloss (PL) RS for the at least one uplink transmission based on the RS resource. Alternatively, or in addition, in a further example, the terminal device 110 may determine power control related information for the at least one uplink transmission based on a prediction value of the RS resource.

[0115] Further, the prediction of the at least one RS resource is based on AI / ML, and thus the terminal device 110 may report more information to the network device 120 for better configuration. Thus, an example embodiment will be discussed in the following.

[0116] In some embodiments, in response to monitoring (also may be referred to “receiving” ) DCI for a beam failure recovery request associated with an RS resource of the at least one RS resource within a time duration, the terminal device 110 may transmit a message indicating at least part of the at least one RS resource to the network device 120. In some embodiments, the message indicating at least part of the at least one RS resource may be a message 3 or message A during a random access (RA) procedure.

[0117] In some embodiments, the at least part of the at least one RS resource may comprise K RS resources with a largest prediction value. Alternatively, or in addition, the at least part of the at least one RS resource may comprise K RS resources with a largest prediction probability, wherein K may be an integer larger than or equal to 1.

[0118] In some embodiments, in order to save overhead, the terminal device 110 may exclude an RS resource from the at least part of the at least one RS resource. In some cases, the terminal device 110 may exclude an RS resource from the at least part of the at least one RS resource if a beam failure recovery request associated with the RS resource has been transmitted. Alternatively, or in addition, in other cases, the terminal device 110 may exclude an RS resource from the at least part of the at least one RS resource if the RS resource is comprised in the first set.

[0119] In some embodiments, whether the message is reported may be indicated by the network device 120. In particular, the terminal device 110 may receive the DCI comprising an indicator indicating the terminal device 110 to transmit the message indicating at least part of the at least one RS resource from the network device 120. In some embodiments, the DCI may be scrambled by a dedicated radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) .

[0120] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the transmission of the message may be requested by the terminal device 110. In particular, the terminal device 110 may transmit a scheduling request for requesting a resource for transmitting the message indicating at least part of the at least one RS resource to the network device 120, and receive an indicating indicative of the resource for transmitting the message indicating at least part of the at least one RS resource form the network device 120.

[0121] Merely for a better understanding about the above processes discussed with reference to FIG. 4B, some example embodiments are further discussed in the following, which should not be interpreted as any limitation to the embodiments of the present disclosure. Further, UE is used as an example of the terminal device and the NW is used as an example of the network device.

[0122] In some embodiments, the candidate beam (s) whose predicted RSRPs or / and probabilities of candidate beams are larger than or equal to a threshold in the q1 can be represented by ‘first set of candidate beams’ . This may mean that the q_new is determined (or selected) from the first set of candidate beams.

[0123] In some embodiments, for link recovery, UE may transmit a beam failure recovery request (e.g., a PRACH) to NW based on a candidate beam having the largest predicted RSRP or / and the largest probability in the first set of candidate beams. In other words, UE may transmit the PRACH based on a q_new, wherein the q_new may correspond to the largest predicted RSRP or / and the largest probability. Specifically, (the RA occasion corresponding to) the PRACH transmission may be associated with the CSI-RS resource or SSB index having the largest predicted RSRP or / and the largest probability.

[0124] In some embodiments, after the PRACH transmission, UE may monitor PDCCH in a search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId for detection of a DCI format with CRC scrambled by C-RNTI or MCS-C-RNTI starting from slot n+4+2uxkmac, where μ is the subcarrier spacing (SCS) configuration for the PRACH transmission and kmac is a number of slots provided by higher layer parameter kmac or kmac=0 if kmac is not provided, within a window configured by BeamFailureRecoveryConfig. If UE does not detect the DCI format with CRC scrambled by C-RNTI or MCS-C-RNTI in the search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId within the window (represented by ‘UE does not detects the specific DCI format within the window’ for short) , UE may transmit a PRACH to NW based on another candidate beam (represented by ‘further candidate beam’ ) having the largest predicted RSRP or / and probability in the set of candidate cells, and wherein the further candidate beam may be different from the candidate beam used to transmit the previous (or / and the first, the most recent) PRACH. For example, assuming the first set of candidate beams comprises 6 candidate beams: beam-0 (corresponding predicted RSRP is -96 dBm) , beam-1 (corresponding predicted RSRP is -98 dBm) , beam-2 (corresponding predicted RSRP is -90 dBm) , beam-5 (corresponding predicted RSRP is -91 dBm) , beam-9 (corresponding predicted RSRP is -94 dBm) , beam-11 (corresponding predicted RSRP is -96 dBm) . It can be observed that the beam-2 is the candidate beam having the largest predicted RSRP, the beam-5 is the candidate beam having the second largest predicted RSRP.

[0125] Specifically, as shown in FIG. 5, for the first PRACH transmission, the beam-2 (corresponding to the largest predicted RSRP) may be used. And for the first PRACH transmission, if UE does not monitor the PDCCH in the search space set within the window, UE may transmit a PRACH based on the beam-5 (corresponding to the second largest predicted RSRP) , optionally, another beam except for the beam-2 in the first set of candidate beams may be used, which is up to UE. Furthermore, for the second PRACH transmission, if UE does not monitor the PDDCH in the search space set within the window, UE may transmit a PRACH based on the beam-9 and the others until UE polls the candidate beams in the first set of candidate beams. In short, for link recovery, for the (first) PRACH transmission, if UE does not detect the specific DCI format within the window, for candidate beam (s) used to determine the next PRACH transmission (s) , UE may poll the candidate beam (s) in the first set of candidate beams based on the order (e.g., descending order) of the corresponding predicted RSRP (s) or / and probability (ies) .

[0126] Furthermore, in some embodiments, UE may be configured with a timer (represented by ‘first timer’ ) . Where the starting time point of the first timer may comprise one of the following. In other words, if the event (or UE behavior) corresponding to one of the following time points occurs, the first timer starts. Where the first timer may be indicated based on a time unit (e.g., slot, ms, s, sub-frame, frame) or a number of times of PRACH transmission. In other words, the first timer may start or restart when at least one event corresponding to at least one of the following time points: - Slot n, i.e., the slot where the (first) PRACH transmission. - Slot n+4+2uxkmac, where μ is the SCS configuration for the PRACH transmission and  kmac is a number of slots provided by higher layer parameter kmac or kmac=0 if kmac is not provided. For short, it is represented by ‘slot n+4’ . - Slot n+4+length of the window, in other words, the ending time point of the window. - The slot where the N-th PRACH transmission, where the N is an integer that is larger  than 1, e.g., the slot where the second PRACH transmission.

[0127] In some embodiments, if UE detects the specific DCI format, the first timer may stop.

[0128] In some embodiments, if the timer expires, UE may stop the PRACH transmission.

[0129] Additionally, the first timer may be the beamFailureRecoveryTimer (configured by NW) , or a smaller timer than the beamFailureRecoveryTimer (in this case, UE may expect that the length of the configured first timer is smaller than or equal to that of the beamFailureRecoveryTimer) .

[0130] In some embodiments, for link recovery, UE may transmit a beam failure recovery request (e.g., a PRACH) to NW based on a candidate beam (represented by ‘target candidate beam’ ) satisfying at least one of the following conditions in the first set of candidate beams. In other words, UE may transmit the PRACH based on a q_new, wherein the q_new may satisfy at least one of the following conditions. Specifically, (the RA occasion corresponding to) the PRACH transmission may be associated with the CSI-RS resource or SSB index satisfying at least one of the following conditions: - if the first set of candidate beams comprises at least one candidate beam corresponding  to a measured RSRP (in other words, the candidate beam is one of the q2) , (represented by ‘first target candidate beam’ ) the target candidate beam may be a candidate beam corresponding to a measured RSRP, e.g., the candidate beam corresponding to the largest measured RSRP; - otherwise, i.e., if the first set of candidate beams comprises no candidate beam  corresponding to a measured RSRP, (represented by ‘second target candidate beam’ ) the target candidate beam may be the candidate beam corresponding to the largest predicted RSRP or / and the largest probability (i.e., methods in the above embodiment) .

[0131] In some embodiments, after the PRACH transmission, UE may monitor PDCCH in a search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId for detection of a DCI format with CRC scrambled by C-RNTI or MCS-C-RNTI starting from slot n+4+2uxkmac, where μ is the SCS configuration for the PRACH transmission and kmac is a number of slots provided by higher layer parameter kmac or kmac=0 if kmac is not provided, within a window configured by BeamFailureRecoveryConfig.

[0132] In some embodiments, if the (first) PRACH transmission is based on the first target candidate beam, UE may transmit a PRACH to NW based on a candidate beam corresponding to the largest predicted RSRP or / and probability in the first set of candidate beams. Alternatively, in some embodiments, if the (first) PRACH transmission is based on the first target candidate beam, and if the first set of candidate beams comprises at least one candidate beam except for the first target candidate beam corresponding to a measured RSRP (this means that more than one candidate beam correspond to a measured RSRP in the first set of candidate beams) , UE may transmit a PRACH based on a candidate beam (except for the first target beam) corresponding to the largest measured RSRP, i.e., another candidate beam corresponding to the largest measured RSRP. Otherwise, that is, if the first set of candidate beams comprises no candidate beam except for the first target candidate beam corresponding to a measured RSRP (this means that only one candidate beam corresponds to a measured RSRP in the first set of candidate beams) , UE may transmit a PRACH to NW based on a candidate beam corresponding to the largest predicted RSRP or / and probability in the first set of candidate beams.

[0133] In some embodiments, if the (first) PRACH transmission is based on the second target candidate beam) , UE may transmit a PRACH to NW based on another candidate beam (represented by ‘further candidate beam’ ) having the largest predicted RSRP or / and probability in the set of candidate cells, and wherein the further candidate beam may be different from the candidate beam used to transmit the previous (or / and the first, the most recent) PRACH.

[0134] In some embodiments, the candidate beam (s) whose predicted RSRPs or / and probabilities of candidate beams are larger than or equal to a threshold in the q1 can be represented by ‘first set of candidate beams’ . This may mean that the q_new is determined (or selected) from the first set of candidate beams.

[0135] In some embodiments, for link recovery, UE may transmit a beam failure recovery request (e.g., a PRACH) to NW based on a candidate beam having the largest predicted RSRP or / and the largest probability in the first set of candidate beams.

[0136] In some embodiments, after the PRACH transmission, UE monitors PDCCH in a search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId for detection of a DCI format with CRC scrambled by C-RNTI or MCS-C-RNTI starting from slot n+4+2uxkmac, where μ is the SCS configuration for the PRACH transmission and kmac is a number of slots provided by higher layer parameter kmac or kmac=0 if kmac is not provided, within a window configured by BeamFailureRecoveryConfig. If UE does not detect the specific DCI format within the window, and if the first set of candidate beams comprises at least one candidate beam corresponding to a measured RSRP, UE may transmit a PRACH based on a candidate beam corresponding to a measured RSRP, e.g., the candidate beam corresponding to the largest measured RSRP.

[0137] Alternatively, or in addition to, in some embodiments, after UE detects the specific DCI format (e.g., after 28 symbols from a last symbol of a first PDCCH reception in a search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId for which the UE detects a DCI format with CRC scrambled by C-RNTI or MCS-C-RNTI) , the proposed candidate (mentioned above) that is used to determine the PRACH transmission (e.g., the last PRACH transmission) may also be applicable for UE to receive DL channel (e.g., PDCCH, PDSCH) or reference signal (e.g., CSI-RS, SSB) , or / and transmit UL channel (e.g., PUCCH, PUSCH) or reference signal (e.g., SRS) . In other words, UE may assume the same antenna port quasi-collocation parameters (associated with the proposed candidate beam in Case 2) as the (last) PRACH transmission for the reception of the DL channel or reference signal. UE may transmit the UL channel or reference signal using a same spatial filter (associated with the proposed candidate beam in Case 2) as for the last PRACH transmission.

[0138] Additionally, the proposed candidate beam (mentioned above) that is used to determine the PRACH transmission (e.g., the last PRACH transmission) is also used to determine power control related information (e.g., downlink pathloss estimate, power control adjustment state, P0, alpha) of UL channel or reference signal (e.g., PUSCH, PUCCH, SRS) . For example, the downlink pathloss estimate (PL) of UL channel or reference signal may be a predicted RSRP (or predicted metric in dB) determined (or calculated) by the UE using reference signal (RS) index q_d (e.g., the proposed candidate beam (mentioned above) that is used to determine the PRACH transmission (e.g., the last PRACH transmission) ) for the active DL BWP.

[0139] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 6, after UE detects the specific DCI format, UE may provide NW information about a second set of candidate beams, which may be determined from the first set of candidate beams. Specifically, the second set of candidate beams may be the following: - K candidate beam (s) in the first set of candidate beams, where the K is an integer that  is larger than 0, and smaller than or equal to the number of candidate beams in the first set of candidate beams. Further, Top-K candidate beam (s) having the largest (predicted or / and measured) RSRP or / and the largest probability can be considered. - Wherein the K may be configured by NW, or / and determined by UE. - Optionally, if the candidate beam associated with the PRACH transmission is the  candidate beam having the largest the largest predicted RSRP or / and the largest probability, the candidate beam may be excluded in the second set of candidate beams. - Optionally, in the first set of candidate beams, if a candidate beam corresponds to  a measured RSRP, the candidate beam may be excluded in the second set of candidate beams. - Optionally, in the first set of candidate beams, if a candidate beam corresponds to  a measured RSRP, the candidate beam may be included in the second set of candidate beams.

[0140] In some embodiments, the information about the second set of candidate beams may comprise at least one of the following: indicator of candidate beam, e.g., CSI-RS resource ID, SSB index; predicted RSRP; probability; whether the reported RSRP (of a reported candidate beam) is a predicted RSRP or measured RSRP; and the number of candidate beams in the second set of candidate beams, e.g., in above example, UE may report the value of the K if the K is determined by UE.

[0141] In some embodiments, after NW receives the information about the second set of candidate beams, UE may perform beam sweeping for the candidate beams in the reported second set of candidate beams to identify the actual best beam.

[0142] In some embodiments, the information about the second set of candidate beams may be transmitted in a PDSCH scheduled by a PDCCH, which may be the PDCCH monitored by UE. Furthermore, the PDCCH may comprise a new field (e.g., 1 bit) indicating whether UE needs to provide to NW the information about the second set of candidate beams. Optionally, the PDCCH may be scrambled by a specific or dedicated RNTI, if UE detects a PDCCH scrambled by the specific RNTI, UE may provide NW the information about the second set of candidate beams.

[0143] In some embodiments, UE may be provided with a dedicated scheduling request (SR) ID, which is associated with a PUCCH transmission. UE may send the PUCCH transmission with the dedicated SR to NW to indicate the presence (or absence) of the information about the second set of candidate beams to be reported.

[0144] In some embodiments, the above reporting method may be applicable for the case of the PRACH transmission associated with a contention free random access (CFRA) procedure or 2-step RA type. Optionally, if the PRACH transmission is associated with a contention based random access (CBRA) procedure or 4-step RA type, UE may provide the information about the second set of candidate beams in Msg3 or MsgA in the RA procedure.

[0145] Optionally, the information about the second set of candidate beams may be included in a (UL) MAC CE or a report configured by NW, which is sent from UE to NW. FIG. 7 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 700 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1.
