Abstract

Example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for handling uplink control information (UCI), for example, one or more UCIs deferred from a previous orthogonal cover code (OCC) period for physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) repetitions. In an example method, a terminal device defers first one or more UCIs from a first OCC period for PUSCH repetitions to a second OCC period for PUSCH repetitions. Then, the terminal device selects at least one UCI from the first one or more UCIs and second one or more UCIs in the second OCC period. Next, the terminal device transmits, in the second OCC period, PUSCH repetitions multiplexed with the selected at least one UCI.

[0042] As mentioned above, the plurality of terminal devices 110-1, …, 110-N may communicate with the network device 120 at the same time. In a scenario that OCC is enabled for PUSCH repetitions, a plurality of UCIs for the respective terminal devices 110-1, …, 110-N may be multiplexed. Alternatively, the plurality of UCIs for the respective terminal devices 110-1, …, 110-N may be dropped. Alternatively, the PUSCH repetitions may be dropped.

[0043] OCC is a coding technique that can be used to enhance the capacity / throughput of a cellular network. In particular, one could generate a set of orthogonal codes (e.g. Walsh-Hadamard codes) having ideal zero cross-correlation and assign different codes to different UEs to achieve orthogonal (i.e. no interference) UL transmissions on the same time-frequency resources.

[0044] To illustrate the principle of OCC, an example is shown in FIG. 1B in which two UEs are transmitting 2 PUSCH repetitions 102 and 104 in the same time-frequency resources. The two UEs may be referred to as UE_1 and UE_2 in the following. For the transmissions, the two UEs apply different OCCs to their transmission signal (which is assumed here to stay constant across the repetitions) allowing a gNB receiver to receive (i.e. demodulate and decode) the signals of each UE without the interference of the other UE. In mathematical form, how this works is represented in the system of equation below (without channel impairments and additive noise for simplicity of description) where x1 and x2 are the signals transmitted by UE_1 and UE_2, respectively and in both repetitions, whereas y1 and y2 are the total signals received by the gNB in the first and second repetition, respectively. It is to be noted that in this example UE_1 is applying the OCC [1, 1] whereas UE_2 is applying the OCC [1, -1] . In the example of the equations, gNB retrieves the signal of UE_2 without interference from UE_1 by cross-correlating the two received signal y1 and y2 with the OCC used by UE_2 (i.e. [1, -1] ) .

[0045]

[0046] The example above is only illustrative and uses Walsh-Hadamard orthogonal codes as OCC set. Different sequences can be used to realize orthogonality among users without impacting the applicability of embodiments of the present disclosure. In addition, it is to be noted that in general in order to multiplex N UEs a number of at least N PUSCH (or signal) repetitions may be necessary.

[0047] Further, a UE is normally configured to transmit UL control information (UCI) on the PUCCH. The uplink control information may contain channel state information (CSI) , scheduling requests (SR) and hybrid automatic repeat request-acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) information. As part of the normal data transmission, the UE’s payload would be transmitted on the PUSCH, which would normally be transmitted in either a full slot or during a fraction of a slot. In the context, it is assumed that the UE is transmitting during a full slot due to the normal expected use case of UE being in coverage shortage for being able to utilize OCC on top of the PUSCH transmissions.

[0048] When a UE is having both PUCCH and PUSCH expected to be transmitted in the same slot (or more generically in overlapping time resources) , the UE may need to “make room” in the normal PUSCH resources to be able to transmit the PUCCH along with the PUSCH transmission. If a UE transmits a PUSCH over one or more slots or multiple PUSCHs over one or more slots that are scheduled by a DCI format, and the UE would transmit a PUCCH with HARQ-ACK and / or CSI information over a single slot that overlaps with the PUSCH transmission in the one or more slots, and the PUSCH transmission in the one or more slots fulfills the conditions in 3GPP TS 38.213 clause 9.2.5 for multiplexing the HARQ-ACK and / or CSI information, the UE multiplexes the HARQ-ACK and / or CSI information in the PUSCH transmission in the one or more slots. The UE does not multiplex HARQ-ACK and / or CSI information in the PUSCH transmission in a slot from the one or more slots if the UE would not transmit a single-slot PUCCH with HARQ-ACK and / or CSI information in the slot in case the PUSCH transmission was absent.

[0049] In some scenarios, a collision may occur between PUCCH and PUSCH. The collision handling between PUCCH and PUSCH transmissions are described in TS 38.213, section 9. The procedure of the collision handling when PUCCH / PUSCH transmission is of same priority index is introduced below.

[0050] When a UE determines overlapping for PUCCH and / or PUSCH transmissions of the same priority index other than PUCCH transmissions with SL HARQ-ACK reports before considering limitations for UE transmission due to cell DRX operation [11, TS 38.321] or as described in clauses 11.1, 11.1.1, 11.2A, 15 and 17.2 including repetitions if any, the following four examples may be applicable. In a first example, the UE resolves the overlapping for PUCCHs with repetitions as described in clause 9.2.6, if any. In a second example, the UE resolves the overlapping for PUCCHs without repetitions as described in clauses 9.2.5. In a third example, the UE resolves the overlapping for PUSCHs and PUCCHs with repetitions as described in clause 9.2.6. In a fourth example, the UE resolves the overlapping for PUSCHs and PUCCHs without repetitions as is subsequently described in this clause.

[0051] UCI reporting in PUCCH is described in TS 38.213 section 9.2, and UCI reporting in PUSCH is described in TS 38.213 section 9.3. In addition, UE procedure for reporting CSI is described in TS 38.214 section 5.2, in which CSI reporting using PUSCH is defined in TS 38.214 section 5.2.3 and CSI reporting using PUCCH is defined in TS 38.214 section 5.2.4 and priority rules for CSI reports are defined in TS 38.214 section 5.2.5.

[0052] When a UCI needs to be multiplexed in PUSCH repetitions with OCC enabled, to guarantee that the payload of all the PUSCH repetitions within an OCC period are the same, which is essential to ensure the OCC orthogonality, the UCI needs to be multiplexed in all the PUSCH repetitions within the OCC period.

[0053] However, due to UCI processing time, such as CSI processing time or PDSCH processing time, a UCI reported not in the first slot (which has not previous slot in the same OCC period) may not be available in the first slot of the OCC period, as shown in FIG. 1C. Most of the time UCI carries important control information, so dropping UCI or dropping PUSCH will have obvious negative impact to the system performance. It’s worth noting that dropping PUSCH means all the PUSCH repetitions within an OCC period needs to be dropped otherwise the remaining PUSCH repetitions will contribute interference to other UEs multiplexed via OCC. If considering UCI deferring, that is, a UE (autonomously) decides to defer the UCI to the next OCC period, there may be other problems. For example, there may be another UCI in the next OCC period. The problem occurs since UCI multiplexing with UCIs from more than one slot, which is not supported yet in current 3GPP specifications.

[0054] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for UCI handling, for instance, in a case that at least one UCI cannot be transmitted in current OCC period due to timeline issue, that is, the at least one UCI cannot be available in the first slot of the OCC period. In particular, the embodiments of the present disclosure propose a solution for selecting and prioritizing only a sub-set UCIs out of the UCIs deferred from last OCC period and the UCIs (if any) that are considered as candidates for current OCC period, based on UCI type priority and / or CSI priority, as well as multiplexing of the selected UCIs in all the PUSCH repetitions within current OCC period, while the rest of the UCIs which could be available in the first slot of current OCC period may be dropped.

[0055] In other words, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for resolving the UCI transmission issue if there is at least a UCI deferred from a previous OCC period. With this solution, PUCCH / PUSCH collision in across-slots level can be handled when PUSCH repetitions with OCC are enabled, thereby achieving UL capacity and throughput enhancements via OCC. Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0056] FIG. 2 illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example process for handling UCI deferred from a previous OCC period for PUSCH repetitions according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200 may involve one or more of the terminal devices 110-1, …, 110-N and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. For illustration, the terminal devices 110-1 is taken as an example below.

[0057] As shown in FIG. 2, at 210, the terminal device 110-1 may defer first one or more UCIs from a first OCC period for PUSCH repetitions to a second OCC period for PUSCH repetitions. In the context, “an OCC period” refers to an amount of time in which all the PUSCH repetitions corresponds to an OCC group. To guarantee the OCC orthogonality, all the PUSCH repetitions within the OCC period are the same. The first OCC period is a previous OCC period with respect to the second OCC period. In other words, the second OCC period is a next OCC period with respect to the first OCC period. The first OCC period and the second OCC period may be adjacent in time. The term “first one or more UCIs” refers to a first number of UCIs. The first number may be equal to or higher than one.

[0058] At 212, the terminal device 110-1 may select at least one UCI from the first one or more UCIs and second one or more UCIs in the second OCC period. The first one or more UCIs are the deferred UCIs from the first OCC period. The term “second one or more UCIs” refers to a second number of UCIs. The second number may be equal to or higher than one. In the context, the second OCC period may be interchangeably referred to as the current OCC period.

[0059] At 214, the terminal device 110-1 may transmit, in the second OCC period, PUSCH repetitions 220 multiplexed with the selected at least one UCI. As shown by an arrow in FIG. 2, the PUSCH repetitions 220 multiplexed with the selected at least one UCI is transmitted to the network device 120.

[0060] At 230, the network device 120 may determine, for a terminal device, that first one or more UCIs are deferred from a first OCC period for PUSCH repetitions to a second OCC period for PUSCH repetitions. Here, the terminal device may be the terminal device 110-1 as illustrated in Fig. 1A.

[0061] At 232, the network device 120 may determine, from the first one or more UCIs and second one or more UCIs in the second OCC period, at least one UCI which is multiplexed with the PUSCH repetitions. At 234, the network device 120 may receive, in the second OCC period, PUSCH repetitions 220 from the terminal device.

[0062] It is noted that the action at 230 may be performed in parallel with the actions at 210 or 212, or may be performed after the actions at 210 or 212. The action at 232 may be performed in parallel with the actions at 210 or 212, or may be performed after the actions at 210 or 212.

[0063] With the solution of the process 200, PUCCH / PUSCH collision (collision between PUCCH and PUSCH) in across-slots level can be handled when PUSCH repetitions with OCC are enabled, thereby achieving UL capacity and throughput enhancements via OCC.

[0064] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the second one or more UCIs may refer to one or more UCIs which are available in the first slot in the second OCC period. In the context, the one or more UCIs which are available in the first slot in the second OCC period may be referred to as one or more candidate UCIs in the second OCC period.

[0065] FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary schematic diagram of a UCI deferred from a first OCC period for PUSCH repetitions to a second OCC period for PUSCH repetitions. As shown in FIG. 3, OCC period k includes slots n, n+1, n+2 and n+3, OCC period k+1 includes slots n+4, n+5, n+6 and n+7. OCC period k in FIG. 3 may be referred to as the first OCC period. OCC period k+1 in FIG. 3 may be referred to as the second OCC period.

[0066] FIG. 3 shows two UCIs, which are a UCI-1 and a UCI-2. In the example of FIG. 3, the UCI-1 is not in the first slot (slot n) of the OCC period k. Therefore, if UCI-1 needs to be multiplexed with the PUSCH repetitions with OCC in the OCC period k, it can only be multiplexed with the PUSCH repetition at slot n+3. Then, the PUSCH repetition at slot n+3 is different from the PUSCH repetitions at slots n, n+1, and n+2. As discussed above, all the PUSCH repetitions within an OCC period are the same, otherwise the OCC orthogonality cannot be guaranteed. In this case, some embodiments of the present disclosure propose to defer the UCI-1 to the second OCC period, i.e., OCC period k+1.

[0067] In the example of FIG. 3, the UCI-2 is in the first slot (slot n+4) of the OCC period k+1. The UCI-2 may be the candidate UCI in the OCC period k+1. The embodiments of the present disclosure propose a plurality of ways to handle at least two UCIs from different OCC period.

[0068] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal device may determine whether to drop the PUSCH repetitions based on the respective UCIs in the second OCC period and the PUSCH repetitions in the second OCC period. If the terminal device determines to drop the PUSCH repetitions, the terminal device may drop the first one or more UCIs since they cannot be multiplexed on the dropped PUSCH repetitions. In an example, if the respective UCIs in the second OCC period have a higher priority than the PUSCH repetitions, the terminal device may determine to drop the PUSCH repetitions. For example, if the respective UCIs have a higher priority positive scheduling request (for example, positive SR with larger priority index) , it may be considered that the respective UCIs in the second OCC period have a higher priority than the PUSCH repetitions (for example, PUSCH repetitions is with smaller priority index) .

[0069] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, at 212, the at least one UCI is selected based on a UCI type priority, a channel state information (CSI) priority, or both of them. In an example, UCI type priority may be defined by the follow sequence: HARQ-ACK > SR > CSI with higher priority > CSI with lower priority. Here, “>” represents “higher than” .

[0070] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal device 110-1 may select a subset of UCIs from the deferred UCIs (i.e., the first one or more UCIs) and the candidate UCIs within current OCC period based on CSI priority and UCI type priority. In some examples, the candidate UCIs are the UCIs which could be available in the first slot of the current OCC period.

[0071] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal device 110-1 may select one UCI or multiple UCIs from only one slot based on UCI type priority out of all the deferred UCIs. In other words, if none of the second one or more UCIs is available in a first slot in the second OCC period, the terminal device 110-1 may select, based on a UCI type priority, the at least one UCI from the first one or more UCIs. In these embodiments, the selected at least one UCI is selected from a single slot.

[0072] In some further embodiments of the present disclosure, a UCI type is proposed to be taken into account, such that only the UCIs with allowed UCI type can be selected. In other words, the selected at least one UCI has an allowed UCI type. In an example, the allowed UCI type may comprise HARQ-ACK, CSI, or both.

[0073] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, if the UE only supports UCI multiplexing for the UCIs from one slot, then UCIs from only one slot are selected, from the deferred UCIs or the candidate UCIs, based on CSI priority and UCI type priority. In other words, the terminal device 110-1 may select, based on a UCI type priority and / or a CSI priority, the at least one UCI from the first one or more UCIs and the second one or more UCIs. In these embodiments, the selected at least one UCI is selected from a single slot.

[0074] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, at most HARQ-ACK from one slot could be selected. If there are HARQ-ACKs in both deferred UCIs and the candidate UCIs, then the HARQ-ACK in the candidate UCIs is selected, and the HARQ-ACK in the deferred UCIs is dropped. In other words, if the first one or more UCIs and the second one or more UCIs are HARQ-ACKs, the terminal device 110-1 may select the second one or more UCIs, and drop the first one or more UCIs.

[0075] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, at most a CSI from one slot could be selected. If there are CSIs with a same CSI priority in both the deferred UCIs and the candidate UCIs, then the CSI in the deferred UCIs are dropped. If CSI in the deferred UCIs has higher CSI priority than the CSI in the candidate UCIs, then the highest priority CSI in the deferred UCIs is selected. In other words, if the first one or more UCIs and the second one or more UCIs are CSIs with a same CSI priority, the terminal device 110-1 may select the second one or more UCIs, and drop the first one or more UCIs. If the first one or more UCIs and the second one or more UCIs are CSIs with different CSI priorities, the terminal device 110-1 may select one or more UCIs with higher CSI priorities, and drop one or more UCIs with lower CSI priorities.

[0076] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the UE may decide to create a Type 2 HARQ-ACK codebook which is able to carry all HARQ-ACK indications from current OCC period as well as from the previous OCC period (i.e., the deferred HARQ-ACKs) . In other words, the terminal device may create a HARQ-ACK codebook to carry a plurality of HARQ-ACKs from the first OCC period and the second OCC period.

[0077] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the selected at least one UCI comprises a plurality of UCIs from different slots and with different UCI types. The terminal device 110-1 may transmit, at 214, the PUSCH repetitions multiplexed with the selected at least one UCI by: multiplexing the plurality of UCIs; multiplexing the multiplexed UCIs with respective repetitions of the PUSCH repetitions within the second OCC period; and transmitting the PUSCH repetitions multiplexed with the plurality of UCIs.

[0078] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal device 110-1 may transmit, at 214, the PUSCH repetitions multiplexed with the selected at least one UCI by: multiplexing the selected at least one UCI with respective repetitions of the PUSCH repetitions within the second OCC period; and transmitting the PUSCH repetitions multiplexed with the selected at least one UCI.

[0079] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, The UCIs which are not available in the first slot of the current OCC period are deferred or dropped. In an example, if the current OCC period is the last OCC period (which has not subsequent OCC period) , then no UCI deferring can be performed. Therefore, all the UCIs not selected for UCI multiplexing are dropped. In other words, if the second OCC period is the last OCC period, the terminal device may drop one or more UCIs in the second OCC period other than the selected at least one UCI.

[0080] In some embodiments, the first one or more UCIs comprise one or more UCIs which are not available in a first slot in the first OCC period. Alternatively or additionally, the first one or more UCIs comprise one or more UCIs which are not multiplexed with PUSCH repetitions in the first OCC period.

[0081] FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart illustrating another example process for handling UCI deferred from the previous OCC period for PUSCH repetitions according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. In FIG. 4, there is detailed signaling workflow to illustrate how the UE handles one or more UCIs deferred from the previous OCC period. For the purpose of discussion, the process 400 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A and FIG. 5. The process 400 may involve the terminal device 110-1, and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 400 has been described in the communication network 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are communicating with the network device 120.

[0082] At 402, the terminal device 110-1 is configured with PUCCH (UCI) , for example, CSI.

[0083] At 404, the terminal device 110-1 is configured with OCC operation

[0084] At 406, the terminal device 110-1 is scheduled to receive PDSCH-1 and feedback HARQ-ACK ( (e.g., UCI-1 in FIG. 5) .

[0085] At 408, the terminal device 110-1 is scheduled to transmit PUSCH repetitions with OCC with OCC length 4.

[0086] In the example of FIG. 5, four UCIs occurs in four slots, they are two CSIs and two HARQ-ACKs. UCI-1 and UCI-3 are HARQ-ACKs. UCI-2 and UCI-4 are CSIs.

[0087] At 410, the terminal device 110-1 is scheduled to receive PDSCH-2 and feedback HARQ-ACK (e.g., UCI-3 in FIG. 5) .

[0088] At 412, the terminal device 110-1 determines UCI multiplexing in PUSCH repetitions and UCI deferring from current OCC period to next available OCC period. The terminal device 110-1 may determine the UCI multiplexing and UCI deferring by the way introduced above.

[0089] At 414, the terminal device 110-1 performs PUCCH / PUSCH transmissions based on the determination results.

[0090] Referring to FIG. 5, for OCC period k, the assumption is that UCI-2 (CSI) cannot be available in the first slot of this OCC period, so UCI-2 is deferred to the next OCC period, that is OCC period k+1. Only UCI-1 (HARQ-ACK) corresponding to PDSCH-1 (received by the terminal device 110-1 at 406) is multiplexed in the four PUSCH repetitions within OCC period k transmitted to gNB.

[0091] For OCC period k+1, the assumption is the UCI-4 (CSI) cannot be available in the first slot of this OCC period, so UCI-4 (CSI) is deferred to the next OCC period, that is, OCC period k+2. Considering UCIs deferred from OCC period k, there are two candidate UCIs, that is, UCI-2 (CSI) and UCI-3 (HARQ-ACK) , waiting for transmission in OCC period k+1. With the assumption that UE with OCC length 4 capability could support multiplexing one HARQ-ACK and one CSI from two different slots, these two UCIs could be multiplexed together (HARQ-ACK + CSI) , then UCI-2 and UCI-3 are multiplexed in all the four PUSCH repetitions within OCC period k+1.

[0092] For OCC period k+2, there is no new UCI report in this OCC period, so UCI-4 (CSI) deferred from OCC period k+1 is multiplexed in all the four PUSCH repetitions within this OCC period.

[0093] FIG. 6 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 600 implemented at a terminal device according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110-1 with reference to FIG. 1A.

[0094] At block 610, the terminal device 110-1 may defer first one or more uplink control information (UCIs) from a first orthogonal cover code (OCC) period for physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) repetitions to a second OCC period for PUSCH repetitions. At block 620, the terminal device 110-1 may select at least one UCI from the first one or more UCIs and second one or more UCIs in the second OCC period.
