Abstract

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices, and systems for subband full duplex (SBFD) random access channel occasion (RO) with feature combination configuration signaling. A network entity may transmit a signal to a user equipment (UE) that configures one or more random access channel (RACH) configurations. A RACH configuration may indicate partitions of RACH resources that are associated with specific feature combinations. In some examples, the signal may indicate that a partition associated with a feature combination applies to both SBFD ROs and non-SBFD ROs. In some other examples, the signal may indicate different RACH resources for SBFD and non-SBFD ROs associated with a same feature combination. In yet some other examples, the signal may indicate SBFD-specific partitions for respective feature combinations. The UE may transmit a RACH message via an SBFD RO associated with a feature combination if the UE is associated with the feature combination and is SBFD-capable.

[0051] Details of aspects of the subject matter in this disclosure are set forth in the drawings and accompanying descriptions. Like reference numbers and designations in the various drawings indicate like elements.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0052] A communication system may include a radio access network (RAN) that supports wireless communication. Communication of a RAN may be performed in accordance with one or more radio access technologies (RATs) , including 4G, 5G, or 6G, among others, including technologies not explicitly mentioned herein. A RAT may employ access technologies (such as multiplexing technologies) including code division multiple access (CDMA) , time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) , single-carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) , time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) , or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) , among others. A RAT may support one or more service types, including machine type communication (MTC) , massive MTC (mMTC) , Internet of Things (IoT) , narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) , reduced capability (RedCap) , enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) , or public safety, among others.

[0053] To support these and other target verticals, a communication system (such as a RAN) may be designed to implement one or more of a modularized functional infrastructure, a disaggregated and service-based network architecture, network function virtualization, network slicing, multi-access edge computing, spatial processing or multipath techniques, IoT or RedCap device connectivity and management, industrial connectivity, licensed and unlicensed spectrum access, sidelink or other device-to-device (D2D) direct communication (such as vehicle-to-everything (V2X) ) , frequency spectrum expansion, overlapping spectrum use, small cell deployments, non-terrestrial network (NTN) deployments, device aggregation, advanced duplex communication (such as sub-band full-duplex (SBFD) ) , multiple-subscriber implementations, high-precision positioning, radio frequency (RF) sensing, network energy savings (NES) , low-power signaling and radios, or artificial intelligence or machine learning (AI / ML) , among other examples.

[0054] The foregoing and other technological improvements may support use cases such as voice calls, messaging, data transfer, streaming, wireless data centers, extended reality (XR) and metaverse applications, vehicle connectivity, holographic and mixed reality communication, autonomous and collaborative robots, sensing networks, gesture monitoring, human-brain interfacing, digital twin applications, asset management, and universal coverage using non-terrestrial or aerial platforms, among other examples. As the demand for connectivity continues to increase, further improvements may be implemented, and other RATs, including 6G and beyond, may be introduced to enable new applications and use cases. The systems, methods, and devices described herein may enable one or more of the foregoing technologies or new technologies or support one or more of the foregoing use cases or new use cases.

[0055] In some wireless communication systems, a user equipment (UE) may perform a random access channel (RACH) procedure to establish a connection with a network entity. To support the RACH procedure, the network entity may configure the UE with a set of RACH resources. The set of RACH resources may include RACH preambles and RACH occasions (ROs) . A RACH preamble (which may additionally, or alternatively, be referred to as a physical RACH (PRACH) preamble) may include a cyclic prefix (CP) , a preamble sequence (such as a sequence of bits) , or both. An RO may include a time resource, a frequency resource, or both. The UE may select a RACH resource, such as a RACH preamble and an RO, and may transmit a first RACH message that includes the RACH preamble via the RO. The network entity may receive the first RACH message and may transmit a RACH response back to the UE to acknowledge reception of the first RACH message. The first RACH message and the RACH response may support synchronization between the UE and the network entity and may enable resource configuration for establishing a connection between the UE and the network entity. Increasing the availability of RACH resources, such as ROs, configured by a network entity may improve latency involved with performing a RACH procedure. Additionally, or alternatively, supporting additional features for RACH procedures may improve the latency and reliability associated with successfully completing the RACH procedures.

[0056] Aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure relate to configuration signaling that enables SBFD ROs with feature combinations for RACH. An SBFD RO may be an example of an RO (e.g., a time and frequency resource) that is allocated at least partially within an SBFD symbol configured for downlink. An SBFD symbol is a symbol that includes both uplink and downlink resources within a same time period. An SBFD symbol may be configured for downlink, uplink, or to flexibly support downlink or uplink. An SBFD RO may additionally, or alternatively, be referred to as an additional-RO. A non-SBFD RO may be an example of an RO (e.g., a time and frequency resource) that is allocated within a non-SBFD symbol, such as an uplink symbol, or within an SBFD symbol configured as flexible or for uplink. A non-SBFD RO may additionally, or alternatively, be referred to as a legacy-RO.

[0057] A feature combination may indicate one or more features applicable to a RACH procedure. A feature may include a UE capability, a UE type, a purpose for performing RACH, an enhancement to performing RACH, or any combination thereof. Example features may include network slicing according to a network slicing access stratum group (NSAG) (e.g., an enhancement to performing RACH) , RedCap (e.g., a UE capability or type) , enhanced RedCap (eRedCap) (e.g., a UE capability or type) , small data transmission (SDT) (e.g., a purpose for performing RACH) , coverage enhancement (e.g., an enhancement to performing RACH) , message repetition (e.g., RACH Message One (Msg1) repetition, RACH Message Three (Msg3) repetition, which may be enhancements to performing RACH) , or any combination thereof. One or more RACH configurations may associate a set of RACH resources with a feature combination, where the feature combination may include a single feature or a set of multiple features. The set of RACH resources may be valid for RACH procedures applicable to the feature combination (e.g., the complete set of features) and may be invalid for RACH procedures that are inapplicable to the feature combination (e.g., inapplicable to at least one feature of the feature combination) . For example, a RACH configuration may associate a first set of RACH resources with a first feature (e.g., RedCap) and may associate a second set of RACH resources with a second set of features (e.g., eRedCap and RACH Msg1 repetition) . A UE may select a RACH resource from the first set of RACH resources for RACH message transmission if the UE supports the first feature (e.g., is a RedCap UE) . Alternatively, the UE may select a RACH resource from the second set of RACH resources if the UE supports the second set of features (e.g., is an eRedCap UE and supports RACH Msg1 repetition) . However, if the UE supports one feature but not another of the set of features (e.g., the UE is an eRedCap UE but fails to support RACH Msg1 repetition) , the UE may not select (e.g., may refrain from selecting, or otherwise fail to select) the RACH resource from the second set of RACH resources. Accordingly, the UE may select one or more RACH resources for RACH message transmission based on (e.g., in accordance with) the associated feature combinations and a purpose of the RACH procedure for the UE, an enhancement to the RACH procedure supported by the UE, a capability of the UE, a type of the UE, or any combination thereof. A RACH resource (e.g., a RACH resource associated with a feature combination) may include a RACH preamble, an RO (e.g., an SBFD RO or a non-SBFD RO) , or both.

[0058] A network entity may transmit a signal that indicates one or more RACH configurations for a UE. In some examples, the signal may indicate a single RACH configuration that applies to both non-SBFD ROs and SBFD ROs. In some other examples, the signal may indicate multiple RACH configurations, where a first RACH configuration applies to the non-SBFD ROs and a second RACH configuration applies to the SBFD ROs. A RACH configuration may indicate one or more RACH resource partitions (e.g., subset of RACH resources) that are associated with specific feature combinations. For example, the RACH configuration may indicate a preamble start value and a quantity of preambles that jointly indicate one or more RACH preambles associated with a feature combination (e.g., a single feature, such as RACH Msg1 repetition, or a set of features, such as RedCap and network slicing) . Additionally, or alternatively, the RACH configuration may include a mask index that indicates a subset of ROs associated with the feature combination. A mask index may be an integer value (e.g., from 1 to 15) that, when applied to a set of ROs, indicates a subset of the ROs (e.g., the mask index may indicate every other RO, every third RO, or some other subset of ROs from a configured set of ROs) . Based on the preamble start value, the quantity of preambles, the mask index, or a combination thereof associated with a feature combination, the UE receiving the signal may determine (e.g., identify, or otherwise ascertain) the subset of RACH resources associated with the feature combination.

[0059] In some examples, the signal may indicate that a partition of RACH resources associated with a feature combination applies to both non-SBFD ROs and SBFD ROs. In some other examples, the signal may indicate, for a feature combination, different RACH resources for non-SBFD ROs and for SBFD ROs. For example, the signal may indicate, within a definition of a partition, a preamble start value, a quantity of preambles, a mask index, or a combination thereof for non-SBFD ROs and may further indicate an SBFD-specific preamble start value, an SBFD-specific quantity of preambles, an SBFD-specific mask index, or a combination thereof for SBFD ROs. In yet some other examples, the signal may indicate an SBFD-specific partition that includes a preamble start value, a quantity of preambles, a mask index, or a combination thereof that indicate SBFD RACH resources associated with a feature combination.

[0060] The UE may receive the signal and may select (e.g., determine, or otherwise ascertain) a RACH resource based on the one or more RACH configurations. The UE may transmit a first RACH message via the RACH resource. In some examples, the UE may select the RACH resource based on a feature combination associated with the RACH resource, a type (e.g., SBFD or non-SBFD) of the RACH resource, or both. For example, the UE may transmit the first RACH message via an SBFD RO based on an SBFD-capability of the UE. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE may transmit the first RACH message including a RACH preamble associated with a specific feature combination based on the UE being associated with the specific feature combination. For example, the UE may perform the RACH procedure using the features of the specific feature combination. The SBFD RO may be included in a subset of ROs (e.g., SBFD ROs, non-SBFD ROs, or a combination thereof) where the RACH preamble is associated with the specific feature combination (e.g., according to the RACH configuration) . The first RACH message may be an example of a RACH Msg1 or a RACH Message A (MsgA) . The network entity may receive the first RACH message including the RACH preamble via the SBFD RO and may transmit, in response, a second RACH message. The second RACH message may be a RACH Message Two (Msg2) or a RACH Message B (MsgB) . The UE and network entity may complete the RACH procedure and establish a connection based on using the SBFD RO and the feature combination for the RACH procedure.

[0061] Particular aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure can be implemented to improve RACH procedures. In some examples, by using a single RACH configuration that applies to both non-SBFD ROs and SBFD-ROs, the described techniques can be used to reduce a signaling overhead associated with RACH resource configuration. In some other examples, by using a first RACH configuration for non-SBFD ROs and a second RACH configuration for SBFD ROs, the described techniques can be used to improve resource allocation flexibility associated with configuring SBFD ROs. By supporting feature combinations with SBFD ROs, the described techniques can be used to improve the latency, reliability, processing overhead, or a combination thereof associated with RACH procedures. For example, an SBFD-capable UE may use an SBFD RO for RACH message transmission and may apply one or more features to the RACH procedure that improve the RACH procedure. In some implementations, using the SBFD RO, instead of a non-SBFD RO, may improve the resource availability and latency involved in the RACH procedure. Additionally, or alternatively, using an RO (e.g., an SBFD RO) associated with a feature combination may enable the UE to apply the features of the feature combination to the RACH procedure. Features such as network slicing, RedCap, eRedCap, SDT, coverage enhancement, message repetition, or any combination of these features may improve the reliability of the RACH procedure, assist the network configuring an appropriate resource, reduce the access latency, reduce the signaling overhead associated with the RACH procedure, or any combination thereof.

[0062] Figure 1 shows an example of a wireless communication system 100 in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communication system 100 includes a core network 150 and a RAN 120 that support communication with one or more devices, such as UEs 115. A RAN 120 may include one or more network entities 105 configured to support wireless communication with the UEs 115.

[0063] The wireless communication system 100 may support communication among network entities 105 and UEs 115 in accordance with a layered protocol stack. For example, in a user plane, communication at a bearer layer, a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer, or Service Data Adaption Protocol (SDAP) layer may be Internet Protocol (IP) -based. A Radio Link Control (RLC) layer may perform packet segmentation and reassembly to communicate via logical channels. A Medium Access Control (MAC) layer may perform priority handling and multiplexing of logical channels into transport channels. A MAC layer also may implement error detection techniques, error correction techniques, or retransmissions. In a control plane, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer may provide establishment, configuration, and maintenance of an RRC connection between UEs 115 and a network entity 105 or a core network 150, supporting radio bearers for user plane data. A Physical (PHY) layer may map transport channels to physical channels.

[0064] A core network 150 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, IP connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions (such as via network entities 105) . A core network 150 may be a 5G core (5GC) or 6G core (6GC) , and may include at least one control plane entity that manages access and mobility and at least one user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (such as a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , a user plane function (UPF) ) .

[0065] A network entity 105 may support wireless communication in accordance with one or more coverage areas 110, and may be referred to as a network element, a network node, a RAN node, or network equipment, among other nomenclature. One or more of the network entities 105 may include or may be referred to as a base station. Depending on its capabilities, a base station may be referred to as a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB or giga-NodeB (either of which may be referred to as a gNB) , a 5G NB, a 6G NB, a next-generation eNB (ng-eNB) , a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology. The wireless communication system 100 may include a heterogeneous network in which different types of network entities 105 support communication for one or more coverage areas 110 using the same or different RATs.

[0066] As described herein, a node, which may be referred to as a node, a network node, a network entity, or a wireless node, may be a base station (e.g., any base station described herein) , a UE (e.g., any UE described herein) , a network controller, an apparatus, a device, a computing system, one or more components, and / or another suitable processing entity configured to perform any of the techniques described herein. For example, a network node may be a UE. As another example, a network node may be a base station. As another example, a first network node may be configured to communicate with a second network node or a third network node. In one aspect of this example, the first network node may be a UE, the second network node may be a base station, and the third network node may be a UE. In another aspect of this example, the first network node may be a UE, the second network node may be a base station, and the third network node may be a base station. In yet other aspects of this example, the first, second, and third network nodes may be different relative to these examples. Similarly, reference to a UE, base station, apparatus, device, computing system, or the like may include disclosure of the UE, base station, apparatus, device, computing system, or the like being a network node. For example, disclosure that a UE is configured to receive information from a base station also discloses that a first network node is configured to receive information from a second network node. Consistent with this disclosure, once a specific example is broadened in accordance with this disclosure (e.g., a UE is configured to receive information from a base station also discloses that a first network node is configured to receive information from a second network node) , the broader example of the narrower example may be interpreted in the reverse, but in a broad open-ended way. In the example above where a UE being configured to receive information from a base station also discloses that a first network node being configured to receive information from a second network node, the first network node may refer to a first UE, a first base station, a first apparatus, a first device, a first computing system, a first one or more components, a first processing entity, or the like configured to receive the information; and the second network node may refer to a second UE, a second base station, a second apparatus, a second device, a second computing system, a second one or more components, a second processing entity, or the like.

[0067] As described herein, communication of information (e.g., any information, signal, or the like) may be described in various aspects using different terminology. Disclosure of one communication term includes disclosure of other communication terms. For example, a first network node may be described as being configured to transmit information to a second network node. In this example and consistent with this disclosure, disclosure that the first network node is configured to transmit information to the second network node includes disclosure that the first network node is configured to provide, send, output, communicate, or transmit information to the second network node. Similarly, in this example and consistent with this disclosure, disclosure that the first network node is configured to transmit information to the second network node includes disclosure that the second network node is configured to receive, obtain, or decode the information that is provided, sent, output, communicated, or transmitted by the first network node.

[0068] In some examples, a network entity 105 may be implemented in an aggregated (such as monolithic, standalone) architecture, which may utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within one network entity 105 (such as a single physical RAN node) . In some other examples, a network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture, which may utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among multiple network entities 105, including in an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) . In a disaggregated architecture, a network entity 105 may include or be referred to as one or more of a central unit (CU) (such as CU 160) , a distributed unit (DU) (such as DU 165) , a radio unit (RU) (such as RU 170) , or a combination thereof. The wireless communication system 100 may also implement a service-based architecture that provides a modular framework in which control plane functionality and common data repositories may be delivered through a set of interconnected network functions (NFs) that may access services of other NFs.

[0069] UEs 115 may be located in a coverage area 110 of one or more network entities 105, and may include or be referred to as an access terminal, a mobile station, a client device, or a subscriber unit. A UE 115 may be, include, or be coupled with a cellular phone, a wireless modem, a tablet device, a laptop computer, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a camera, a medical or biometric device, a wearable device, a gaming device, an entertainment device, an XR device, a vehicular component or sensor, a smart meter or sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, a Global Positioning System (GPS) or other positioning device, a robot or other device implementing artificial intelligence, a UE function of a network node, or any other wireless communication device or function that may communicate using a wireless medium.

[0070] The wireless communication system 100 may support various types of communication links among devices. For example, wireless communication between a network entity 105 and a UE 115 may be supported using one or more of a communication link 125 (such as a Uu interface) , which may include downlink communication from a network entity 105 to a UE 115, uplink communication from a UE 115 to a network entity 105, or both. Direct wireless communication between UEs 115 may be supported using a communication link 135 (such as a device-to-device (D2D) communication link, a sidelink, a PC5 interface) .

[0071] Communication between a network entity 105 and a core network 150 may be supported using a backhaul link 132 (such as an S1, N2, N3, NG, or other interface) . In some implementations, communication between network entities 105 may be supported using a backhaul link 132 (such as an X2, Xn, or other interface) either directly (such as directly between network entities 105) or indirectly (such as via a core network 150) . In some implementations (such as in a disaggregated architecture) , communication between a CU 160 and a DU 165 may be supported using a midhaul link 162, and communication between a DU 165 and an RU may be supported using a fronthaul link 168. A backhaul link 132, a midhaul link 162, a fronthaul link 168, or any combination thereof may be or include one or more wired links (such as an electrical link, an optical fiber link) or one or more wireless links (such as a radio link, a wireless optical link) , among other examples or combinations thereof. Wireless backhaul, midhaul, or fronthaul may be implemented via one or more IAB nodes 104, which may act as a relay using resources of an IAB donor network entity 105 (such as via a wireless link 130) .

[0072] The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more of a relay 172 that may steer or reflect signals transmitted by other entities, which may support any of the described communication links. A relay 172 may include active elements or passive elements, and may be in the form of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) . An RIS may include tunable reflecting antenna arrays or metasurfaces, which may be used to enhance coverage or efficiency in multipath environments.

[0073] Network entities 105 and UEs 115 each may include one or multiple antennas. Multiple antennas of such devices may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, MIMO communication, or beamforming, and may be organized or structured as one or more antenna panels, one or more antenna groups, one or more sets of antenna elements, or one or more antenna arrays, among other examples. As used herein, the term “antenna” may refer to one or more antennas, one or more antenna panels, one or more antenna groups, one or more sets of antenna elements, or one or more antenna arrays. The term “antenna panel” may refer to a group of antennas (such as antenna elements) arranged in an array or panel, which may facilitate beamforming by manipulating parameters associated with the group of antennas. In some implementations, an antenna panel may support RF beamforming for a signal transmitted or received via an antenna port. The term “antenna module” may refer to circuitry including one or more antennas as well as one or more other components (such as filters, amplifiers, processors, beamformers) associated with integrating the antenna module into a device such as a network entity 105 or a UE 115.

[0074] Beamforming, such as directional transmission or directional reception, is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (such as at a network entity 105, at a UE 115) to shape or steer a beam 175 (such as an antenna beam, a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path (such as along a direction) , which may include one or more paths between a transmitting device and a receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via multiple antenna elements of an antenna array such that signals propagating along some orientations (such as relative to the antenna array) experience constructive interference while others may experience destructive interference. Adjustments of signals communicated via the antenna elements may include a transmitting device or a receiving device applying phase offsets, amplitude offsets, or other adjustments to signals carried via (such as transmitted by, received by) antenna elements of the device, which may be defined by a beamforming weight set associated with a particular orientation (such as relative to the antenna array of the device) .

[0075] Communication resources of the wireless communication system 100 (such as of a RAN 120) may refer to a resource in the frequency domain (such as a frequency resource, an RF resource) , a resource in the time domain (such as a time resource) , a resource in the spatial domain (such as a spatial resource, a spatial layer) , or a combination thereof. The wireless communication system 100 may leverage orthogonality of such resources to convey different communications to or from different devices (such as for a communication link 125, for a communication link 135, for unicast communication, for multicast communication, for broadcast communication) .

[0076] A frequency resource may refer to a frequency or range of frequencies (such as a bandwidth, a frequency channel) of a frequency band implemented for wireless communication. For example, a frequency resource may refer to a resource of a lower frequency band (such as Frequency Range 1 (FR1) , between 425 MHz and 7.125 GHz) , a mid-band (such as Frequency Range 3 (FR3) , between 7.125 GHz and 24.25 GHz) , or an upper frequency band (such as Frequency Range 2 (FR2) , between 24.25 GHz and 71 GHz) . Communication in the upper frequency band may be referred to as millimeter wave (mmW) communication, and communication above an upper frequency band (such as between mmW and THz frequencies, between 100 GHz and 1 THz) may be referred to as sub-Terahertz (sub-THz) communication.

[0077] A frequency resource may refer to a “carrier” (such as a frequency channel) , or portion thereof, and a carrier bandwidth may be referred to as a “system bandwidth. ” A carrier may be subdivided in the frequency domain, including into subcarriers, bandwidth parts (BWPs) , or both. For example, a resource block (RB) , such as a physical resource block (PRB) , may be defined in accordance with a set of subcarriers (such as twelve consecutive subcarriers in the frequency domain) , and a BWP may be configured in accordance with a set of RBs (such as a set of contiguous RBs) .

[0078] A frequency resource may be configured to carry either downlink communication or uplink communication (such as in a frequency division duplexing (FDD) configuration) , or may be configured to carry both downlink and uplink communication (such as in a time division duplexing (TDD) configuration, in a sub-band full duplex (SBFD) configuration) . One or more numerologies for a carrier may be supported, each associated with a subcarrier spacing (SCS) and a cyclic prefix (CP) . Supported numerologies may vary by frequency range (such as FR1, FR2, FR3) , and a carrier may be divided into portions (such as BWPs) having the same or different numerologies. BWPs may be configured as uplink BWPs or downlink BWPs (such as by a network entity 105) , including in response to network conditions (such as to allocate uplink and downlink BWPs in response to traffic conditions) , device capability (such as allocating BWPs with a greater quantity of RBs to UEs 115 with relatively higher capabilities) , or both. A UE 115 may be configured with a set of multiple BWPs (such as a set of uplink BWPs, a set of downlink BWPs, or both) , and a single BWP of a set (such as an active UL BWP, an active DL BWP, or both) may be active at a given time, such that communication of a UE 115 is supported by active BWP (s) .

[0079] The electromagnetic spectrum is often subdivided, based on frequency / wavelength, into various classes, bands, channels, etc. In 5G NR two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) . It should be understood that although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “Sub-6 GHz” band in various documents and articles. A similar nomenclature issue sometimes occurs with regard to FR2, which is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “millimeter wave” band in documents and articles, despite being different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz –300 GHz) which is identified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a “millimeter wave” band.

[0080] The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies. Recent 5G NR studies have identified an operating band for these mid-band frequencies as frequency range designation FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) . Frequency bands falling within FR3 may inherit FR1 characteristics and / or FR2 characteristics, and thus may effectively extend features of FR1 and / or FR2 into mid-band frequencies. In addition, higher frequency bands are currently being explored to extend 5G NR operation beyond 52.6 GHz. For example, three higher operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . Each of these higher frequency bands falls within the EHF band.

[0081] With the above aspects in mind, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “sub-6 GHz” or the like if used herein may broadly represent frequencies that may be less than 6 GHz, may be within FR1, or may include mid-band frequencies. Further, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “millimeter wave” or the like if used herein may broadly represent frequencies that may include mid-band frequencies, may be within FR2, FR4, FR4-a or FR4-1, and / or FR5, or may be within the EHF band.

[0082] A time resource may refer to a duration of a frame (such as a radio frame, a frame structure) , or portion thereof. For example, a frame may span a duration of 10 ms, and each frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) . A frame may be subdivided in the time domain, including into subframes, slots, mini-slots, or a combination thereof. Slots or mini-slots may each include a respective quantity of symbols (such as symbol durations, symbol periods, OFDM symbols) , which may be a function of a configured CP. A duration of a symbol is a function of the SCS or frequency band of operation.

[0083] A spatial resource may refer to an antenna, an antenna direction, an antenna port, a signal direction (such as a beamforming direction) , or other resource that supports spatial orthogonality. A device (such as a network entity 105, a UE 115) may perform communications of a given frequency resource and time resource with a single spatial resource (such as communication without regard to spatial orthogonality) . Additionally, or alternatively, a device may implement multiple spatial resources to support multiple signal streams using resources that are overlapping in the time and frequency domains (such as to support MIMO techniques) .

[0084] Signals of the wireless communication system 100 (such as of a RAN 120) may be communicated using one or more resource elements (REs) , and an RE may refer to a resource that corresponds to one subcarrier in the frequency domain and one symbol in the time domain. An RE may be used to convey a modulation symbol corresponding to one or more bits of information (such as of a physical channel, of a reference signal) in accordance with a modulation scheme. For example, a quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technique may be implemented to communicate one or more bits that are distinguished in accordance with phase components, amplitude components, or both of a signal conveyed using a RE. A quantity of bits carried by an RE may depend on an order of the modulation scheme, and a relatively higher order may correspond to a relatively higher rate of communication. A device may support communication of REs using multiple subcarriers concurrently by implementing multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM) , among others.

[0085] Physical channels may carry information using modulation symbols conveyed by corresponding REs. Physical shared channels (such as for communicating user data) may include a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for communicating user data in a downlink direction and a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) for communicating user data in an uplink direction. Physical control channels (such as for managing communication via physical channels) may include a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) for communicating downlink control information (DCI) and a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) for communicating uplink control information (UCI) . A network entity 105 may indicate (such as schedule, allocate) communication resources for a UE 115 using DCI, including indicating downlink resources of a PDSCH (such as in accordance with a downlink grant) , uplink resources of a PUSCH (such as in accordance with an uplink grant) , or a combination thereof. A control region (such as a control resource set (CORESET) ) for a physical control channel may be configured in accordance with a pattern of REs in the time and frequency domains, and one or more control regions may be configured for a set of UEs. A UE 115 may monitor control regions for control information according to one or more search space sets, which may include a common search space set (such as for sending control information to one or more UEs 115) , UE-specific search space sets (such as for sending control information to a UE 115) , or a combination thereof. A physical broadcast channel (PBCH) may be used to broadcast parameters to UEs 115 to synchronize with a network entity 105 and establish communications (such as to establish a communication link 125) .

[0086] Reference signals may be communicated to establish reference characteristics (such as a frequency reference, a temporal reference, a spatial reference, a signal quality reference) between devices of a RAN 120, which may support communication using physical channels. Reference signals communicated between network entities 105 and UEs 115 may include synchronization signals (such as a primary synchronization signal (PSS) , a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) ) that support temporal synchronization, channel state information-reference signals (CSI-RSs) that support evaluating downlink channel characteristics, sounding reference signals (SRSs) that support evaluating uplink channel characteristics, demodulation reference signals (DMRSs) that support demodulation, or phase tracking reference signals (PTRSs) for evaluating oscillator characteristics, among others. Network entities 105 and UEs 115 may receive and measure transmitted reference signals to support one or more of these and other functions.

[0087] The wireless communication system 100 may support SBFD RACH with feature combinations. For example, a network entity 105 may transmit a signal that configures a set of RACH resources that support RACH procedures. RACH resources may include RACH preambles, ROs, or both. A UE 115 may use one or more resources of the set of RACH resources for a RACH message transmission. In some examples, the network entity 105 may configure an RO in an SBFD symbol, and the UE 115 may transmit the RACH message via the RO in the SBFD symbol if the UE 115 supports an SBFD capability. Additionally, or alternatively, the network entity 105 may configure an association between different RACH resources and different features or feature combinations. The UE 115 may transmit the RACH message via a RACH resource associated with a specific feature combination (e.g., one or more features) if the UE 115 supports the specific feature combination. By formatting the signal to jointly configure RACH resource feature combinations and SBFD ROs, the network entity 105 may efficiently configure the UE 115 with available resources for RACH procedures.

[0088] Devices of the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support one or more aspects of the described techniques for SBFD RO with feature combination configuration signaling. For example, a UE 115 may include a processing system 140, and a network entity 105 may include a processing system 145, each of which may be configured to cause the respective device to perform (such as being configured as means for performing) one or more of the described operations. By configuring a processing system 140, a processing system 145, or a combination thereof in accordance with the described techniques, the wireless communication system 100 (such as the RAN 120) may support an improved signaling overhead, improved latency associated with RACH procedures, or both.

[0089] Figure 2 shows an example of a signaling configuration 200 that supports SBFD RO with feature combination configuration signaling in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. A wireless communication system, such as the wireless communication system 100 described with reference to Figure 1, may support the signaling configuration 200. For example, a network entity 105-a and a UE 115-amay communicate according to the signaling configuration 200, where the network entity 105-a may be an example of a network entity 105 and the UE 115-a may be an example of a UE 115 as described with reference to Figure 1. The network entity 105-amay transmit a signal 210 that configures RACH resources (e.g., ROs, RACH preambles, or both) for the UE 115-a. The UE 115-a may receive the signal 210 and may use the configured RACH resources for a RACH procedure. For example, the UE 115-a may transmit, via an RO, a RACH message 245 including a RACH preamble 250 based on the configured RACH resources. The signal 210 may support SBFD ROs 230 with feature combinations, such that the UE 115-a may select an SBFD RO 230 for transmission of the RACH message 245 based on a feature combination supported by the UE 115-a.

[0090] The network entity 105-a may transmit the signal 210 via a downlink channel 205-a. The network entity 105-a may transmit the signal 210 as a unicast transmission to the UE 115-a or as a broadcast or groupcast transmission to multiple UEs 115. In some examples, the signal 210 may be an example of an RRC signal, such as an RRC configuration message, an RRC reconfiguration message, or another RRC message. In some other examples, the signal 210 may be a MAC control element (CE) or a DCI message. The signal 210 may configure RACH resources in accordance with a message format, such as a message format 300 described with reference to Figure 3.

[0091] In some examples, the signal 210 may configure ROs in SBFD symbols, non-SBFD symbols, or both. For example, a set of resources (e.g., time and frequency resources) may be configured with a first symbol 240-a, a second symbol 240-b, a third symbol 240-c, and a fourth symbol 240-d configured as SBFD symbols and a fifth symbol 240-e configured as an uplink symbol. As used herein, a “symbol” may span any length of time (e.g., a single symbol period, a slot, or any other time interval) . An SBFD symbol may include one or more downlink portions 220 supporting downlink transmissions and one or more uplink portions 225 supporting uplink transmissions within a same symbol, such that the downlink and uplink resources overlap in the time domain. In some examples, the downlink portions 220 and the uplink portions 225 may be non-overlapping in the frequency domain (e.g., within a subband, within a component carrier (CC) bandwidth or BWP) . In some other examples, one or more downlink portions 220 may be partially or fully overlapping in the frequency domain with one or more uplink portions 225. An SBFD-aware UE (e.g., an SBFD-capable UE) , such as the UE 115-a, may use an uplink resource or a downlink resource or both (e.g., for a full duplex UE) within an SBFD symbol. For example, an SBFD-aware UE, such as the UE 115-a, may use an uplink resource within an SBFD symbol for SBFD RACH.

[0092] The network entity 105-a may support multiple RACH configuration options for SBFD RACH. SBFD RACH may involve the UE 115-a (e.g., an SBFD-aware UE) transmitting the RACH message 245 (e.g., a first RACH message, such as a RACH Msg1 or a RACH MsgA) via an SBFD RO 230. In a first RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, the network entity 105-a may use a single RACH configuration 215-ato indicate both non-SBFD ROs 235 (e.g., legacy-ROs) and SBFD ROs 230 (e.g., additional-ROs) . For example, the signal 210 may indicate the single RACH configuration 215-a using parameters that support non-SBFD RO 235 configuration, where the parameters are extended to also support SBFD RO 230 configuration. In a second RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, the network entity 105-a may use separate RACH configurations to indicate SBFD ROs 230 (e.g., additional-ROs) . For example, the signal 210 may include a first RACH configuration 215-a that indicates the non-SBFD ROs 235 (e.g., legacy-ROs) and may include a second RACH configuration 215-b that indicates the SBFD ROs 230 (e.g., additional-ROs) . The UE 115-a may support the first RACH configuration option for non-SBFD RACH, the second RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, or both. The network entity 105-a may enable either the first RACH configuration option or the second RACH configuration option for the UE 115-a if the UE 115-a (e.g., an SBFD-aware UE) is operating in an RRC CONNECTED state.

[0093] The UE 115-a may receive the signal 210 and may determine a set of ROs based on the RACH configuration 215-a, the RACH configuration 215-b, or both. In some examples, the signal 210 may include the single RACH configuration 215-a that configures the set of ROs including one or more SBFD ROs 230 and one or more non-SBFD ROs 235. According to the first RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, an SBFD RO 230 may be an RO in an SBFD symbol configured for downlink (e.g., by a tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationCommon parameter or another parameter) , such as the RO configured in the first symbol 240-a (e.g., an SBFD symbol configured for downlink) . Additionally, or alternatively, an SBFD RO 230 may be an RO that spans across an SBFD symbol configured for downlink and an SBFD symbol configured as flexible (e.g., configured to flexibly support uplink, downlink, or both by a tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationCommon parameter or another parameter) , such as the RO configured to span across the second symbol 240-b (e.g., an SBFD symbol configured for downlink) and the third symbol 240-c (e.g., an SBFD symbol configured as flexible) . An SBFD RO 230 may additionally, or alternatively, be referred to as an additional-RO. Additionally, according to the first RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, a non-SBFD RO 235 may be an RO in a non-SBFD symbol, such as the RO configured in the fifth symbol 240-e (e.g., an uplink symbol) . Additionally, or alternatively, a non-SBFD RO 235 may be an RO in an SBFD symbol configured as flexible (e.g., configured to flexibly support uplink, downlink, or both by a tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationCommon parameter or another parameter) or that spans across an SBFD symbol configured as flexible and a non-SBFD symbol (e.g., an uplink symbol) , such as the RO configured to span across the fourth symbol 240-d (e.g., an SBFD symbol configured as flexible) and the fifth symbol 240-e (e.g., an uplink symbol) . A non-SBFD RO 235 may additionally, or alternatively, be referred to as a legacy-RO. In some examples, the single RACH configuration 215-a may include separate synchronization signal block (SSB) RO mappings for the non-SBFD ROs 235 and for the SBFD ROs 230.

[0094] In some other examples, the signal 210 may include the first RACH configuration 215-a and the second RACH configuration 215-b that jointly configure the set of ROs. For example, the first RACH configuration 215-a may configure one or more non-SBFD ROs 235 and the second RACH configuration 215-b may configure one or more SBFD ROs 230, such that the two RACH configurations together (e.g., jointly) configure the full set of ROs with SBFD and non-SBFD ROs. According to the second RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, a non-SBFD RO 235 may be an RO configured by the first RACH configuration 215-a (e.g., a legacy RACH configuration) , and an SBFD RO 230 may be an RO configured by the second RACH configuration 215-b (e.g., an additional RACH configuration) .

[0095] The signal 210 may additionally, or alternatively, support feature combinations. For example, the network entity 105-a may configure a set of RACH resources (e.g., ROs, RACH preambles, or both) with one or more specific features applicable to a corresponding RACH procedure. The set of RACH resources associated with a feature combination may be referred to as a RACH resource partition 255, which may include a RACH preamble 250, an RO 260-a, an RO 260-b, or a combination thereof. Example features of the feature combination may include network slicing (e.g., according to an NSAG) , RedCap, eRedCap, SDT, coverage enhancement, message repetition (e.g., RACH Msg1 repetition, RACH Msg3 repetition) , or any combination thereof. In some examples, SBFD capability may be a feature. For example, the network entity 105-a may configure a set of RACH resources associated with a feature combination that includes SBFD capability as a feature (e.g., as a single feature, or with one or more other features) , implicitly indicating that the set of RACH resources are SBFD ROs (and not non-SBFD ROs) . An SBFD-capable UE may use the set of RACH resources for a RACH procedure, while a non-SBFD-capable UE may not use (e.g., fail to use, refrain from using) the set of RACH resources for the RACH procedure based on the non-SBFD-capable UE failing to support the SBFD capability feature.

[0096] The signal 210 (e.g., via the RACH configuration 215-a, the RACH configuration 215-b, or both) may associate a set of RACH resources with a feature combination, where a feature combination may include a single feature or a set of multiple features. The set of RACH resources may be valid for RACH procedures applicable to the feature combination (e.g., the complete set of features) and may be invalid for RACH procedures that are inapplicable to the feature combination (e.g., inapplicable to at least one feature of the feature combination) . For example, the signal 210 may associate a first set of RACH resources with RedCap and may associate a second set of RACH resources with eRedCap and RACH Msg1 repetition. The UE 115-a may select a RACH resource from the first set of RACH resources for RACH message transmission if the UE 115-a is a RedCap UE. Alternatively, the UE 115-a may select a RACH resource from the second set of RACH resources if the UE 115-a is an eRedCap UE and supports RACH Msg1 repetition. However, if the UE 115-a is an eRedCap UE but fails to support RACH Msg1 repetition, the UE 115-a may not select (e.g., may refrain from selecting, or otherwise fail to select) the RACH resource from the second set of RACH resources. Accordingly, the UE 115-a may select one or more RACH resources for RACH message transmission based on (e.g., in accordance with) the associated feature combinations and a purpose of the RACH procedure for the UE 115-a, a capability of the UE 115-a, a type of the UE 115-a, or any combination thereof.

[0097] The message format of the signal 210 may enable the network entity 105-ato configure non-SBFD ROs 235, SBFD ROs 230, or both with specific feature combinations (e.g., associated with specific RACH preambles 250) . In some examples, the signal 210 may allocate one or more RACH preambles 250 to a specific feature combination. The signal 210 may additionally, or alternatively, indicate a subset of ROs for which the one or more RACH preambles 250 are associated with the feature combination. The subset of ROs may include non-SBFD ROs 235, SBFD ROs 230, or a combination thereof. In some examples, according to the first RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, the single RACH configuration 215-a may indicate non-SBFD ROs 235 and SBFD ROs 230 where the one or more RACH preambles 250 are associated with the feature combination. In some other examples, according to the second RACH configuration option for SBFD RACH, the first RACH configuration 215-a may indicate non-SBFD ROs 235 where the one or more RACH preambles 250 are associated with the feature combination, and the second RACH configuration 215-b may indicate SBFD ROs 230 where the one or more RACH preambles 250 are associated with the feature combination.

[0098] In some examples, the UE 115-a may select an SBFD RO 230 for transmission of a RACH message 245 based on the signal 210 (e.g., in accordance with the RACH configuration 215-a, the RACH configuration 215-b, or both) . The RACH message 245 may include a RACH preamble 250. In some examples, the RACH message 245 may be a RACH Msg1 or a RACH MsgA. The UE 115-a may transmit the RACH message 245 via the SBFD RO 230 (e.g., via an uplink channel 205-b, such as a physical RACH (PRACH) channel) . The network entity 105-a may receive the RACH message 245 via the SBFD RO 230 and may perform a RACH procedure with the UE 115-a based on (e.g., initiated by) the RACH message 245.

[0099] Figure 3 shows an example of a message format 300 that supports SBFD RO with feature combination configuration signaling in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. A network entity, such as a network entity 105 described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, may transmit a signal (such as the signal 210 described with reference to Figure 2) configured in accordance with the message format 300. A UE, such as a UE 115 described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, may receive the signal configured in accordance with the message format 300. In some examples, the signal may be an example of an RRC signal (e.g., an RRC configuration message or other RRC signal) . The RRC signal may configure a set of ROs, including one or more non-SBFD ROs (e.g., legacy-ROs) and one or more SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) . For example, the RRC signal may configure the set of ROs using a single RACH configuration or separate RACH configurations for non-SBFD ROs and SBFD ROs. The message format 300 may support one or more techniques for configuring the ROs with feature combinations that enable SBFD RACH. The message format 300 may include any combination of the information elements (IEs) illustrated in Figure 3. In some examples, the message format 300 may include additional, or alternative, IEs to those illustrated in Figure 3.

[0100] The RRC signal formatted in accordance with the message format 300 may include a BWP uplink common IE 305 (e.g., BWP-UplinkCommon) . The BWP uplink common IE 305 may configure common parameters of an uplink BWP. In some examples, the configured parameters may be cell-specific. The BWP uplink common IE 305 may configure RACH resources, such as ROs, RACH preambles, or both, for one or more UEs 115. The BWP uplink common IE 305 may configure the ROs in uplink symbols, SBFD symbols, or a combination thereof.

[0101] The BWP uplink common IE 305 may include a RACH configuration common IE 310-a (e.g., RACH-ConfigCommon) . The RACH configuration common IE 310-a may indicate cell-specific RACH parameters, such as a set of RACH preambles, a set of ROs (e.g., time resources associated with the ROs, frequency resources associated with the ROs) , or both. The RACH configuration common IE 310-a may configure “shared” ROs. For example, the ROs configured by the RACH configuration common IE 310-a may be shared between non-feature-specific RACH and feature-specific (e.g., feature combination-specific) RACH. The ROs may support initial RACH message transmission, such as the transmission of a RACH Msg1, the transmission of a RACH MsgA, or both. The RACH configuration common IE 310-a may include a generic RACH configuration (e.g., RACH-ConfigGeneric) for non-feature-specific RACH. Additionally, or alternatively, the RACH configuration common IE 310-a may include a feature combination RACH resource list, such as a feature combination preambles list 325 (e.g., featureCombinationPreamblesList) . The feature combination preambles list 325 may indicate one or more preamble partitions (e.g., subsets of RACH preambles associated with specific feature combinations) and RO resource partitions. A feature combination RACH resource list may define other RACH resource partitions (e.g., in addition to, or alternative to, preamble-based partitions, such as RO resource partitions or other partitions) for different feature combinations. A feature combination may include a single feature or multiple features.

[0102] The feature combination preambles list 325 may include one or more feature combination preambles IEs 345. A feature combination preambles IE 345 (e.g., FeatureCombinationPreambles) may associate a set of preambles with a feature combination. A UE 115 may apply the field values from the feature combination preambles IE 345 when performing RACH using a preamble in this feature combination preambles IE 345. In some examples, or a specific BWP, there may be one set of preambles associated with a given feature combination per RACH type (e.g., 4-step RACH or 2-step RACH) per RACH Msg1 repetition number.

[0103] The feature combination preambles IE 345 may include a feature combination IE 360 (e.g., FeatureCombination) . The feature combination IE 360 may indicate a feature or a combination of features associated with a set of RACH resources. The feature combination IE 360 may indicate a RedCap feature, a small data feature, an NSAG feature, a RACH Msg3 repetitions feature, a RACH Msg1 repetitions feature, an eRedCap feature, or any combination of these or other features. In some examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations, the feature combination IE 360 may indicate an SBFD feature or SBFD resouce (e.g., in addition, or alternative, to the other supported features) .

[0104] The feature combination preambles IE 345 may indicate the RACH resource partition associated with the feature combination defined by the feature combination IE 360. For example, the feature combination preambles IE 345 may additionally include an indication of a start preamble 365 (e.g., startPreambleForThisPartition) , a quantity of preambles 370 (e.g., numberOfPreamblesPerSSB-ForThisPartition) , a mask index 375 (e.g., ssb-SharedRO-MaskIndex) , or a combination thereof. The start preamble 365 may indicate a first RACH preamble associated with the feature combination. The quantity of preambles 370 may indicate how many consecutive RACH preambles (e.g., starting from the first RACH preamble) are associated with the feature combination. The mask index 375 may indicate a subset of ROs where RACH preambles are allocated for the feature combination. Accordingly, the feature combination preambles IE 345 may jointly indicate, using the start preamble 365, the quantity of preambles 370, the mask index 375, or a combination thereof, which RACH resources are associated with the feature combination indicated by the feature combination IE 360 of the feature combination preambles IE 345.

[0105] For shared ROs, the feature combination preambles IE 345 may indicate a subset of ROs using the mask index 375. In some examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for a single RACH configuration, the same feature combination preambles IE 345 may apply for both non-SBFD ROs (e.g., legacy-ROs) and SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) . For example, within a feature combination preambles IE 345, the same preamble partition may apply for both non-SBFD ROs and SBFD ROs for the feature combination.

[0106] In some other examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for a single RACH configuration, the feature combination preambles IE 345 may further include an SBFD-specific start preamble 380-a (e.g., startPreambleForThisPartition-SBFD) , an SBFD-specific quantity of preambles 385-a (e.g., numberOfPreamblesPerSSB-ForThisPartition-SBFD) , an SBFD-specific mask index 390-a (e.g., ssb-SharedRO-MaskIndex-SBFD) , or a combination thereof. In such examples, the start preamble 365 may indicate a first RACH preamble associated with the feature combination for non-SBFD ROs, while the SBFD-specific start preamble 380-a may indicate a first RACH preamble associated with the feature combination for SBFD ROs. The quantity of preambles 370 may indicate how many consecutive RACH preambles (e.g., starting from the first RACH preamble) are associated with the feature combination for non-SBFD ROs, while the SBFD-specific quantity of preambles 385-amay indicate how many consecutive RACH preambles (e.g., starting from the first RACH preamble) are associated with the feature combination for SBFD ROs. The mask index 375 may indicate a subset of non-SBFD ROs where RACH preambles are allocated for the feature combination, while the SBFD-specific mask index 390-a may indicate a subset of SBFD ROs where RACH preambles are allocated for the feature combination.

[0107] In yet some other examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for a single RACH configuration, the feature combination preambles list 325 (or a feature combination RACH resource list) may include one or more SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IEs 350-a (or SBFD-specific feature combination RACH resource IEs) . An SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-a (e.g., FeatureCombinationPreambles-SBFD) may associate a set of preambles with a feature combination for SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) . Additionally, or alternatively, an SBFD-specific feature combination RACH resource IE may associate any set of RACH resources with a feature combination for SBFD RACH.

[0108] The SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-a may indicate the RACH resource partition associated with a feature combination defined by an SBFD-specific feature combination IE 395 (e.g., featureCombination) . For example, the SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-a may include an indication of an SBFD-specific start preamble 380-b (e.g., startPreambleForThisPartition) , an SBFD-specific quantity of preambles 385-b (e.g., numberOfPreamblesPerSSB-ForThisPartition) , an SBFD-specific mask index 390-b (e.g., ssb-SharedRO-MaskIndex) , or a combination thereof. In some examples, these fields may be implicitly SBFD-specific based on being defined within the SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-a. The SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-a may indicate, using the SBFD-specific start preamble 380-b, the SBFD-specific quantity of preambles 385-b, the SBFD-specific mask index 390-b, or a combination thereof, which RACH resources are associated with the feature combination for SBFD ROs indicated by the SBFD-specific feature combination IE 395 of the SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-a.

[0109] In some examples, the BWP uplink common IE 305 may additionally include an additional RACH configuration list 320 (e.g., AdditionalRACH-ConfigList) . The additional RACH configuration list 320 may indicate one or more additional RACH configurations (e.g., in addition to the RACH configurations of the RACH configuration common IE 310-a, of a MsgA configuration common IE, or both) . The additional RACH configuration list 320 may configure “separate” ROs. For example, the ROs configured by the additional RACH configuration list 320 may be separate from the shared ROs and may be feature-or feature combination-specific.

[0110] The additional RACH configuration list 320 may include one or more additional RACH configuration IEs 335. Each additional RACH configuration IE 335 (e.g., AdditionalRACH-Config) may indicate a RACH resource partition associated with a feature combination (e.g., including one or more features) . For example, an additional RACH configuration IE 335 may include a RACH configuration common IE 310-b (e.g., RACH-ConfigCommon) specific to this additional RACH configuration IE 335. The RACH configuration common IE 310-b may be formatted similar to, or the same as, the RACH configuration common IE 310-a, but for separate ROs (e.g., ROs separately configured in the additional RACH configuration IE 335) . Accordingly, the RACH configuration common IE 310-b may include a feature combination preambles list 325, which may include one or more feature combination preambles IEs 345. Alternatively, in some other examples, the RACH configuration common IE 310-b may include one feature combination preambles IE 345 defining one specific partition.

[0111] In some examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for separate ROs using a single RACH configuration, the feature combination IE 360, the start preamble 365, the quantity of preambles 370, the mask index 375, or a combination thereof indicated within the RACH configuration common IE 310-b may apply to both non-SBFD ROs and SBFD ROs. In some other examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for separate ROs using a single RACH configuration, the feature combination preambles IEs 345 indicated within the RACH configuration common IE 310-b may indicate an SBFD-specific start preamble 380-a, an SBFD-specific quantity of preambles 385-a, an SBFD-specific mask index 390-a, or any combination thereof for SBFD ROs. In yet some other examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for separate ROs using a single RACH configuration, the feature combination preambles list 325 indicated within the RACH configuration common IE 310-b may include one or more SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IEs 350-a, where an SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IE 350-amay indicate an SBFD-specific feature combination IE 395, an SBFD-specific start preamble 380-b, an SBFD-specific quantity of preambles 385-b, an SBFD-specific mask index 390-b, or any combination thereof for SBFD ROs.

[0112] In some examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for separate ROs using a single RACH configuration, an additional RACH configuration IE 335 may include an RO type indicator 355. The RO type indicator 355 may be an example of an RRC parameter that indicates whether the separate ROs associated with the additional RACH configuration IE 335 includes non-SBFD ROs (e.g., legacy-ROs) or SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) . That is, the RO type indicator 355 may be an explicit indicator of legacy-or additional-RO type. For example, a first bit value (e.g., a 0 bit value) of the RO type indicator 355 may indicate non-SBFD ROs (e.g., legacy-ROs) , and a second bit value (e.g., a 1 bit value) of the RO type indicator 355 may indicate SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) . Based on the value of the RO type indicator 355, the partition of RACH resources associated with a feature combination indicated by the additional RACH configuration IE 335 may apply to non-SBFD ROs or SBFD ROs (but not both) .

[0113] In some examples, the message format 300 may support separate RACH configurations (e.g., a first RACH configuration for non-SBFD resources and a second RACH configuration for SBFD resources) . In some such examples, the RACH configuration common IE 310-a may indicate RACH resources for share non-SBFD ROs. Additionally, or alternatively, the additional RACH configuration list 320 may indicate RACH resources for separate non-SBFD ROs.

[0114] In some examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for shared ROs using multiple RACH configurations, the BWP uplink common IE 305 may additionally include an SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-a (e.g., RACH-ConfigCommon-SBFD) . The SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-a may include an SBFD-specific feature combination preambles list 330, which may include one or more SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IEs 350-b. Additionally, or alternatively, the SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-a may include an SBFD-specific feature combination RACH resource list, which may include one or more SBFD-specific feature combination RACH resource IEs. The SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IEs 350-b may indicate RACH resource partitions for specific feature combinations for SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) .

[0115] Additionally, or alternatively, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for separate ROs using multiple RACH configurations, an additional RACH configuration IE 335 may include an SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-b (e.g., RACH-ConfigCommon-SBFD) . Similar to the SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-a, the SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-b may include an SBFD-specific feature combination preambles list 330, which may include one or more SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IEs 350-b. Additionally, or alternatively, the SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-b may include an SBFD-specific feature combination RACH resource list, which may include one or more SBFD-specific feature combination RACH resource IEs. The SBFD-specific feature combination preambles IEs 350-b may indicate RACH resource partitions for specific feature combinations for SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) .

[0116] In some examples, to support SBFD RACH with feature combinations for separate ROs using multiple RACH configurations, the additional RACH configuration list 320 may include one or more SBFD-specific additional RACH configuration IEs 340. In some other examples, the BWP uplink common IE 305 may additionally include an SBFD-specific additional RACH configuration list, which may include one or more SBFD-specific additional RACH configuration IEs 340. An SBFD-specific additional RACH configuration IE 340 (e.g., AdditionalRACH-Config-SBFD) may include an SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-c (e.g., RACH-ConfigCommon-SBFD) similar to the SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-a, the SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-b, or both. The SBFD-specific RACH configuration common IE 315-c may indicate RACH resource partitions for one or more feature combinations for SBFD ROs (e.g., additional-ROs) .

[0117] The message format 300 may support compatibility with non-SBFD-aware UEs 115 while providing flexibility for configuring RACH resources with feature combinations across non-SBFD ROs, SBFD ROs, or both.

[0118] Figure 4 shows an example of a process flow 400 that supports SBFD RO with feature combination configuration signaling in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The process flow 400 may be performed by aspects of the wireless communication system 100 or the signaling configuration 200, as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2. For example, a UE 115-b, which may be an example of a UE 115 described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, and a network entity 105-b, which may be an example of a network entity 105 described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, may perform aspects of the process flow 400. The UE 115-b (e.g., an SBFD-capable UE) and the network entity 105-b may support one or more RACH configurations that enable SBFD ROs with feature combinations. In the following description of the process flow 400, operations performed by the UE 115-b and the network entity 105-b may be performed in a different order than is shown. Some operations may be omitted from the process flow 400, and other operations may be added to the process flow 400. Further, although some operations or signaling may be shown to occur at different times for discussion purposes, these operations may occur at the same time. Additionally, or alternatively, other wireless devices may perform aspects of the process flow 400.

[0119] At 405, the network entity 105-b may transmit a RACH configuration signal. The RACH configuration signal may be an example of an RRC signal. The RACH configuration signal may indicate a single RACH configuration (e.g., for both non-SBFD ROs and SBFD ROs) or multiple RACH configurations (e.g., a first RACH configuration for non-SBFD ROs and a second RACH configuration for SBFD ROs) . The RACH configuration signal may configure a set of ROs, where the set of ROs includes at least a first subset of ROs for which one or more RACH preambles are associated with a first feature combination. For example, the RACH configuration signal may include a definition of a partition that indicates one or more RACH preambles associated with a first feature combination, a subset of ROs associated with the first feature combination, or both. At least a first RO of the first subset of ROs may be further associated with an SBFD symbol. For example, the first RO may be an example of an SBFD RO. The UE 115-b may receive the RACH configuration signal. Based on the signal, the UE 115-b may determine (e.g., identify) the single RACH configuration or the multiple RACH configurations indicated by the RACH configuration signal.

[0120] At 410, the UE 115-b may transmit a RACH message based on the RACH configuration signal. For example, the UE 115-b may select a RACH resource configured by the single RACH configuration or the multiple RACH configurations. The RACH resource may include a RACH preamble and an RO. The UE 115-b may transmit the RACH message via the RO, and the RACH message may include the RACH preamble. In some examples, the UE 115-b may select the RACH preamble from the one or more RACH preambles associated with the feature combination and may select the RO from the first subset of ROs based on the UE 115-b being associated with (e.g., supporting) the first feature combination. For example, the UE 115-b may perform the RACH procedure based on a feature of the feature combination, the UE 115-b may be capable of a feature of the feature combination, or both. In some examples, the UE 115-b may transmit the RACH message in accordance with one or more features of the feature combination (e.g., using a retransmission technique supported by the feature, using a capability associated with the feature) . Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115-b may select the first RO from the first subset of ROs based on the first RO being an SBFD RO and the UE 115-b having an SBFD capability (e.g., the UE 115-b is an SBFD-aware UE or SBFD-capable UE) . The UE 115-b may transmit the RACH message including the RACH preamble via the first RO. The network entity 105-b may receive the RACH message including the RACH preamble via the first RO.

[0121] In some examples, the RACH message may be an example of a RACH MsgA including the RACH preamble and data. In some such examples, at 415, the network entity 105-b may transmit a RACH MsgB as a RACH response to the UE 115-b (e.g., based on, or otherwise in response to, the RACH MsgA) . The RACH MsgB may include a RACH response, data, or both. The UE 115-b and the network entity 105-b may complete the RACH procedure and establish a connection based on the RACH MsgB.

[0122] In some other examples, the RACH message may be an example of a RACH Msg1 including the RACH preamble. In some such other examples, at 415, the network entity 105-b may transmit a RACH Msg2 as a RACH response to the UE 115-b. The UE 115-b may receive the RACH Msg2 and, at 420, may transmit a RACH Msg3 to the network entity 105-b. The network entity 105-b may receive the RACH Msg3 and, at 425, may transmit a RACH Message Four (Msg4) to the UE 115-b. The UE 115-b and the network entity 105-b may complete the RACH procedure and establish a connection based on the RACH Msg4.
