Description

METHOD FOR NETWORK AND USER EQUIPMENT POWER SAVING FOR BEAM PREDICTION PROCEDURETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication, and more particularly, to network and user equipment (UE) power saving for beam prediction procedure.BACKGROUND

[0002] The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifies a radio interface referred to as fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) (5G NR) . An architecture for a 5G NR wireless communication system includes a 5G core (5GC) network, a 5G radio access network (5G-RAN) , a user equipment (5G UE) , etc. The 5G NR architecture seeks to provide increased data rates, decreased latency, and / or increased capacity compared to prior generation cellular communication systems.

[0003] Wireless communication systems, in general, provide various telecommunication services (e.g., telephony, video, data, messaging, etc. ) based on multiple-access technologies, such as orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technologies, that support communication with multiple UEs. Improvements in mobile broadband continue the progression of such wireless communication technologies. For example, a UE may measure one or multiple transmission occasions for each beam in a set of beams for a machine learning based beam prediction. The UE may not be able to measure some transmission occasions due to UE discontinuous reception (DRX) or cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) . Details pertaining to reporting inference results for the machine learning based beam prediction may be undefined. BRIEF SUMMARY

[0004] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects. This summary neither identifies key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineates the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0005] A network entity, such as a base station or a unit of a base station, may configure a user equipment (UE) to transmit a channel state information (CSI) report to the network entity. For example, the network entity transmits a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) for the UE to perform measurements on the CSI-RS and transmit the CSI report to the network entity based on the measurements. In some aspects, the CSI report may include information that enables the network entity to select a digital precoder for the UE. In some other aspects, the network entity may configure the UE to report layer 1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) or layer 1 signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (L1-SINR) for one or multiple synchronization signal block (SSB) resources or CSI-RS resources.

[0006] A UE may be configured to perform a network beam prediction procedure, with the assistance of machine learning (ML) technology. For example, measurement results of a set B network beams (e.g., second set of beams) are utilized as input for an ML model to predict a set A network beams (e.g., first set of beams) that have a high probability of being the best beam (s) . The UE may then perform a second-step beam measurement based on the predicted set of network beams to identify the best network beam. The network entity further configures the UE to provide a report including performance monitoring where the UE determines a beam prediction accuracy based on measurement results of downlink reference signals (DL-RSs) for the set A beams and the set B beams.

[0007] In some aspects, the UE measures one or more transmission occasions of DL-RS for each beam in the second set of beams, for inference of the ML based beam prediction. In some aspects, the UE performs a beam sweeping procedure to identify the best beam for each beam in the second set of beams, then the UE measures multiple transmission occasions of DL-RS for each beam in the second set of beams for a spatial-domain beam prediction. However, the UE may not be able to measure some transmission occasions due to UE discontinuous reception (DRX) or cell DTX. Thus, details pertaining to performing the report for the inference results may be undefined, where the UE has not measured sufficient transmission occasions or the measured transmission occasions are too early or the measured transmission occasions are not uniformly distributed in the time-domain. Similar issues may arise for the performance monitoring of the inference or prediction results, such that details pertaining to reporting of the monitoring results may be undefined, where the beam quality for a subset of, or all of, the DL-RSs for the measurement for monitoring may be below a threshold. Further, the network entity may configure the UE to perform inference or monitoring on multiple first or second sets of beams to allow the network entity to determine whether to turn on / off some antennas based on the measurements of the multiple sets of first or second beams. Thus, details pertaining to configuring the UE to perform the inference based on different first or second beam sets may be undefined.

[0008] Aspects of the present disclosure address the above-noted and other deficiencies by implementing methods for power savings for beam prediction and performance monitoring. For example, the present disclosure describes identification or reduction of unnecessary or unreliable beam prediction inference / monitoring results report when the number of valid transmission occasions for the DL-RSs for the measurement for inference / monitoring exceeds a threshold. In other aspects, the present disclosure describes beam prediction inference / monitoring results report with regard to spatial-domain network energy saving.

[0009] According to some aspects, the UE receives, from a network entity, a configuration for a beam prediction procedure. The UE receives, from the network entity, DL-RS for a channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure. The UE determines whether a condition for a valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is satisfied. The UE transmits, to the network entity, a beam prediction report according to the configuration based on the determining whether the condition for the valid beam prediction report is satisfied.

[0010] According to some aspects, the network entity transmits, to a UE, a configuration for a beam prediction procedure. The network entity transmits, to the UE, DL-RS for a channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure. The network entity receives, from the UE and based on the configuration, at least one of: a first beam prediction report when a condition for a valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is satisfied, or a second beam prediction report when the condition for the valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is not satisfied, the second beam prediction report being different from the first beam prediction report.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0036] FIG. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with a plurality of cells 190. The wireless communications system includes user equipments (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 can be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) .

[0037] Operations of the base station 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which can enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, can be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or base stations 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / base stations 104.

[0038] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface can be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the base station 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the base station 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the base station 104e.

[0039] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0040] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 can control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0041] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a base station 104. Thus, the base station 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The base stations 104 provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network. The base stations 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The base stations 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0042] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a base station 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the base station 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the base station 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the base station 104d / RU 106d.

[0043] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (PCell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (SCell) .

[0044] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0045] The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may each include a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0046] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second base station 104e. For instance, the base station 104e of the cell 190e may transmit a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the base station 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the base station 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the base station 104e based on UE communication beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the base station 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the base station 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the base station 104e.

[0047] The base station 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the base station 104 or at least one unit of the base station 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The base station 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The base station 104 or an entity at the base station 104 can be implemented as an IAB node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the base station 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the base station 104e can be a master node and the base station / RU 106a can be a secondary node.

[0048] Still referring to FIG. 1, in certain aspects, any of the UEs 102 may include a beam prediction component 140 configured to receive, from a network entity, a configuration for a beam prediction procedure. The beam prediction component 140 is configured to receive, from the network entity, a downlink reference signal (DL-RS) for a channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure. The beam prediction component 140 is configured to determine whether a condition for a valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is satisfied. The beam prediction component 140 is configured to transmit, to the network entity, a beam prediction report according to the configuration based on the determining whether the condition for the valid beam prediction report is satisfied.

[0049] In certain aspects, any of the base stations 104 or a network entity of the base stations 104 may include a report configuration component 150 configured to transmit, to a UE, a configuration for a beam prediction procedure. The report configuration component 150 is configured to transmit, to the UE, DL-RS for a channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure. The report configuration component 150 is configured to receive, from the UE and based on the configuration, at least one of: a first beam prediction report when a condition for a valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is satisfied, or a second beam prediction report when the condition for the valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is not satisfied. The second beam prediction report is different from the first beam prediction report.

[0050] Accordingly, FIG. 1 describes a wireless communication system that may be implemented in connection with aspects of one or more other figures described herein. Further, although the following description may be focused on 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas, such as 5G-Advanced and future versions, LTE, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , and other wireless technologies, such as 6G.

[0051] Currently, the network entity (NE) can configure a Channel State Information (CSI) report configuration for a UE to report the CSI. For a CSI report, the UE may report at least one of rank indicator (RI) , precoder matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) and layer indicator (LI) . RI and PMI are used to indicate the digital precoder, CQI is used to indicate the signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) status so as to assist the network entity to determine the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) , and LI is used to identify the strongest layer for the reported precoder indicated by RI and PMI. When reporting the CSI by long Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) (e.g., PUCCH with 4 or more symbols) or Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) , the UE transmits the RI and CQI for the first codeword on CSI part 1 and the remaining components of the CSI report on CSI part 2, where the payload size for the CSI components in CSI part 1 is fixed and the payload size for the CSI components in CSI part 2 depends on the value of RI reported in CSI part 1.

[0052] The network entity can also configure a CSI report configuration for a UE to report the layer 1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) or layer 1 signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (L1-SINR) for one or multiple synchronization signal block (SSB) resources or CSI-RS resources. The UE reports the SSB resource index indicators (SSBRIs) or CSI-RS resource indicators (CRIs) and the corresponding L1-RSRP or L1-SINR in CSI part 1.

[0053] FIG. 2 is a diagram 200 illustrating an example of a procedure for machine learning (ML) based spatial-domain beam prediction according to an embodiment. With the help of ML, it is possible for the UE to perform network beam prediction. For example, diagram 200 of FIG. 2 illustrates a procedure for ML based spatial-domain beam prediction for beams in different Azimuth angle Of Departure (AoD) and Zenith angle Of Departure (ZoD) . To identify the best network beam, the measurement results (e.g., L1-RSRP) of a first set of network beams or set B beams (e.g., measured beam 220) may include 4 beams based on 4 SSBs or CSI-RSs, can be the input for ML 224, and the ML 224 can predict a second set of network beams or set A beams (e.g., predicted beam 222) that have the highest possibility to be the best beam. The UE may perform a second-step beam measurement based on the predicted second set of network beams to identify the best network beam.

[0054] FIG. 3 is a diagram 300 illustrating an example of a procedure for ML-based time domain beam prediction according to an embodiment. The diagram 300 of FIG. 3 illustrates a procedure for ML based time-domain / temporal beam prediction. Based on the L1-RSRP for the beams in a first set of beams or set B beams (e.g., measured beam 320a, 320b) in a first set of time instances in the past (e.g., beam report in slot n-sS, n-sS-1, …, n-s1) the ML 324 can be used to predict the beams in a second set of beams or set A beams (e.g., predicted beam 322a, 322b) in the second set of time instances in the future (e.g., predicted beam in slot n+q1, n+q2, …, n+qQ) .

[0055] For an inference configuration (e.g., CSI report configuration for inference) , the network entity may configure one or multiple associated IDs indicating the beam set for the DL-RSs for set A and set B. In one example, if the set B beam is a subset of or full set of set A beam, the network entity may configure one associated ID indicating the beam set for the DL-RS for set A and B; otherwise, the network entity may configure a first associated ID indicating the beam set for the DL-RS for set A and a second associated ID indicating the beam set for DL-RS for set B.

[0056] Based on the ML based spatial-domain and / or time-domain beam prediction, the UE can report the predicted beam information for K beams for X slots for an inference configuration. The beam information may include at least one of the followings: beam identifier or beam indicator (BI) (e.g., SSBRI or CRI for the predicted beams) ; predicted RSRP (P-RSRP) ; beam probability indicator (BPI) indicating the probability for the beam to be the best beam; confidence indicator (CI) indicating the possible prediction error for the P-RSRP.

[0057] Further, for ML based beam prediction, the network entity may configure another report configuration for performance monitoring (e.g., CSI report configuration for monitoring) . In the report configuration for monitoring, the network entity may configure a set of DL-RSs for measurement and a linked report configuration for inference or prediction, where the DL-RSs may be associated with the set A beams (e.g., subset of or full set of set A beams) . The UE may compare the measured results from the set of DL-RSs and the predicted beams, and calculate the beam prediction accuracy.

[0058] In one example, as shown in diagram 400b of FIG. 4B, the UE may determine a beam prediction is correct if the top M predicted beam (s) (e.g., predicted beam 422b) is included in the measured top K beams 420b from the DL-RSs for measurement. In one example, as shown in diagram 400a of FIG. 4A, the UE may determine a beam prediction is incorrect if the top M predicted beam (s) (e.g., predicted beam 422a) is not included in the measured top K beams 420a from the DL-RSs for measurement.

[0059] The UE may report a beam accuracy indicator (BAI) indicating the beam prediction accuracy (e.g., number of corrected beam predictions, number of incorrect beam predictions and / or the ratio between the number of corrected / incorrected beam predictions and the number of beam predictions within a time window) .

[0060] For the inference of the ML based beam prediction, the UE may need to measure one or multiple transmission occasions for each beam in set B. In some implementations, the UE may need to measure one transmission occasion for each beam in set B for spatial-domain beam prediction. In some other implementations, the UE may need to perform the UE beam sweeping to identify the best UE beam for each beam in set B, then it may need to measure multiple transmission occasions for each beam in set B for spatial-domain beam prediction. In some other implementations, the UE may need to measure multiple transmission occasions for each beam in set B for temporal beam prediction, where the offset between the starting / ending time of the multiple transmission occasions and the first prediction slot should be small enough so that the UE can have reliable prediction results. Further, the transmission occasions may be based on the same interval.

[0061] The UE may not be able to measure some transmission occasions due to UE discontinuous reception (DRX) or cell DTX. For example, if the transmission occasion for a DL-RS is in UE DRX inactive time or cell DTX inactive period, the UE may not receive the transmission occasion of the DL-RS and the network entity may not transmit the transmission occasion of the DL-RS, otherwise, the UE may receive the transmission occasion of the DL-RS and the network entity may transmit the transmission occasion of the DL-RS.

[0062] Then if the UE has not measured enough transmission occasions or the measured transmission occasions are too earlier or are non-uniformly distributed in time-domain, how to perform the report for the inference results could be an issue.

[0063] Further, for the performance monitoring, there are similar issues as the inference. If UE fails to measure sufficient transmission occasions or the measured transmission occasions are too earlier or are non-uniformly distributed in time-domain, how to report the monitoring results could be an issue.

[0064] In addition, the beam quality for a subset of or all the set B beams or the DL-RSs for the measurement for monitoring may be too low. Thus, the UE may not be able to identify accurate beam quality for inference (also referred to as prediction) or monitoring (also referred to as performance monitoring) . Then how to report the inference / monitoring for such case could be an issue.

[0065] Further, with regard to network energy saving, the network entity may turn off some antennas. Then the network entity beam could become different. The network entity may configure the UE to perform inference based on multiple set A / B beam sets, and may configure the UE to perform the monitoring based on multiple set A / B beam sets. Then based on the UE’s prediction / monitoring results for multiple types of set A / B beam sets, the network entity may determine whether to turn on / off some antennas. How to configure the UE to perform the inference based on different set A / B beam sets could be an issue.

[0066] The present disclosure describes procedures for network and UE power saving for beam prediction. The present disclosure describes identifying and / or reducing unnecessary or unreliable beam prediction inference / monitoring results report when the number of valid transmission occasions for the DL-RSs for the measurement for inference / monitoring is not sufficient, and beam prediction inference / monitoring results report with regard to spatial-domain network energy saving.

[0067] As used herein, unless otherwise specified, RRC signaling may indicate an RRC reconfiguration message from the network entity 104 to the UE 102, or the RRC signaling may indicate a system information block (SIB) . In an example, the SIB is an existing SIB (e.g., system information block 1 (SIB1) ) or a new SIB (e.g., SIB J, where J is an integer above 21) transmitted by the network entity 104. In some aspects, the network entity 104 receives a UE capability from the UE 102, from a core network (e.g., an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) , or from another network entity.

[0068] FIG. 5 is a signaling diagram 500 illustrating communications between a UE 102 and a network entity 104 for network and UE power saving for beam prediction procedure. The network entity 104 may correspond to a base station or a unit of a base station, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, the CU 110, etc. The network and the UE may operate jointly for power saving for a beam prediction report. The UE optionally transmits 502 (e.g., reports) and the network entity 104 optionally receives 502 UE capability message indicating support for the beam prediction procedure. The UE capability message includes one or multiple supported conditions for the valid beam prediction report. In some embodiments, the UE capability message includes supported features for joint network and UE power saving for beam prediction report, which may include the condition (s) for the UE to transmit a valid beam prediction report (e.g., supported thresholds for each condition) ; the maximum number of CSI report configurations that the UE supports for predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP report; the maximum number of CSI report configurations based on different associated IDs for set A that the UE supports for predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP report; the maximum number of CSI report configurations based on different associated IDs for set B that the UE supports for predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP report; the maximum number of CSI report configurations that the UE supports for BAI report. The network entity and UE may count the UE capability above per component carrier (CC) or across CCs in a band or band combination. The CSI report configurations above may refer to the configured CSI report configurations, the activated CSI report configurations, or the CSI report configurations for beam prediction report simultaneously (e.g., in a slot) .

[0069] The network entity 104 (e.g., based on the received UE capability) transmits 504 and the UE 102 receives 504 a configuration for the beam prediction procedure. The network entity may configure at least one report configuration for beam prediction by a first control signaling (e.g., RRCReconfiguration) , where the network entity may configure at least one DL-RS resources for prediction, one DL-RS resources for channel measurement, associated ID (s) for prediction and channel measurement. The network entity may optionally configure at least one CSI report sub-configuration in the report configuration or at least one trigger state associated with the report configuration, where the CSI report sub-configuration includes or the trigger state is associated with a subset of DL-RS resources for prediction or channel measurement, and / or associated ID (s) for prediction or channel measurement.

[0070] Then the network entity may optionally transmit 506 and the UE may optionally receive 506 a control signaling activating or deactivating the configured report configuration (s) for beam prediction. In some embodiments, the network entity may optionally transmit 508 and the UE may optionally receive 508 a control signaling updating the DL-RS resources for channel measurement and / or the associated ID (s) . The network entity transmits 510 and the UE receives 510 one or multiple transmission occasions of the DL-RSs for channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure.

[0071] In some embodiments, the network entity may optionally transmit 512 and the UE may optionally receive 512 a control signal to activate or trigger a beam prediction report. For example, the network entity transmits 512 a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) or downlink control information (DCI) triggering the report configuration.

[0072] The UE may determine 514 whether the criteria for a valid beam prediction is satisfied or not. If a valid beam prediction is determined, transmit beam prediction report based on the configured report quantity and the received one or multiple transmission occasions of the DL-RS resource (s) for channel measurement; otherwise, transmit beam prediction report based on an invalid beam report content or refrain from transmitting the beam prediction report. The UE transmits 516 and the network entity receives 516 the beam prediction report. The beam prediction report may be transmitted by the UE to the network entity via an RRC message, an MAC message (e.g., MAC-CE) or uplink control information (UCI) on PUCCH or PUSCH.

[0073] In some embodiments, the network entity may determine 518 whether to update network energy savings (NES) based on the beam prediction report.

[0074] FIG. 6 is a diagram 600 illustrating an example of a determination of whether a condition for a valid beam prediction report is satisfied according to an embodiment. In some aspects, the UE may determine 514 whether the criteria for a valid beam prediction report is satisfied. There may be one of more conditions satisfied for the valid beam prediction report. The UE may determine a beam prediction inference / monitoring report is valid if the UE identifies one or multiple conditions. For example, the network entity has transmitted 614a or the UE has received 614a at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource for measurement for inference / monitoring in DRX active time (e.g., the same DRX active time) . The network entity has transmitted 614b or the UE has received 614b at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource for measurement for inference / monitoring in one or multiple cell DTX active periods (e.g., the same cell DTX active period) . The network entity has transmitted 614c or the UE has received 614c at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource after a beam prediction procedure event. In some embodiments, the network entity has transmitted or the UE has received at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource for measurement for inference / monitoring after at least one of the followings: the CSI report (re) configuration for the inference / monitoring, serving cell activation, bandwidth part (BWP) change, activation of the CSI report (e.g., semi-persistent CSI report) for the inference / monitoring, transmission configuration indicator (TCI) or quasi-co-location (QCL) update of at least one of the DL-RS resources for measurement, update of the time-domain location of at least one of the DL-RS resources in the report configuration, or update of at least one higher layer configured parameters for at least one of the DL-RS resources in the report configuration, or update of the associated ID for the DL-RS resources for set A / B. In some embodiments, a condition 614d may be related to an offset between a first transmission occasion or a last transmission occasion of at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource and a first slot for transmission of the beam prediction report is less than or equal to a first threshold. In some embodiments, the first threshold may be pre-defined (e.g., the periodicity of the DL-RS or the interval between two transmission occasions of the DL-RS) , configured by the network entity, or reported by the UE (e.g., via UE capability) . In some embodiments, a condition 614e may be related to an interval of K transmission occasions of the DL-RS resource is uniformly distributed in a time domain. The interval may be based on an interval configured by the network entity or reported by the UE or pre-defined. In one example, the K transmission occasions for a DL-RS resource may be consecutive transmission occasions for the DL-RS resource in time-domain. When the network entity configures a first set of DL-RS resources (e.g., always-on SSB) and a second set of DL-RS resources (e.g., on-demand SSB or SSB for time-domain adaptation; SSBs that can be dynamically activated or updated in terms of the time-domain location by MAC-CE or DCI) , where both sets may be based on the same SSB indexes, the UE may perform the measurement for beam prediction inference / monitoring based on the first set or the second set or both, which may be predefined or configured by the network entity or reported by the UE. In some embodiments, a condition 614f may be related to a beam quality (e.g., L1-RSRP / L1-SINR) for the K transmission occasions of the DL-RS transmitted on M DL-RS resource for measurement is above or equal to a second threshold. The value of M, the DL-RS resource index for the M resources, and / or the second threshold may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity or reported by the UE. In some embodiments, a condition 614g may be related to a cell quality (e.g., L3-RSRP / L3-SINR / L3-RSRQ) for a cell that the DL-RS resources for the channel measurement is associated with is above or equal to a third threshold. The third threshold may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity or reported by the UE. In some embodiment, a condition 614h may be related to a sufficient number of processing units for processing the beam prediction report. For example, there may be no sufficient remaining number of processing units (e.g., CSI processing units or AI / ML processing units) for the UE to process the inference / monitoring, where the processing units may be occupied by other processing. In some aspects, the network entity may transmit 614i or the UE may receive 614i K transmission occasions of the DL-RS having a scheduling offset between downlink control information (DCI) triggering the DL-RS and a symbol of the DL-RS is greater than or equal to a fourth threshold. For example, the DL-RS may be aperiodic DL-RS and the UE has received at least K transmission occasions for the DL-RS with a scheduling offset between the DCI triggering the DL-RS and the symbol of the DL-RS equal to or greater than a fourth threshold, where the fourth threshold may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity or reported by the UE. The fourth threshold is used to reserve sufficient time for the UE to decode the PDCCH, identify the UE beam to receive the DL-RS and switch the UE beam to receive the DL-RS. In some embodiments, K is a positive integer greater than 1. In some embodiments, M is a positive integer.

[0075] If one or more of the conditions are satisfied, the UE may determine that a condition for a valid beam prediction report is satisfied and may proceed to 716a (e.g., Yes branch) . However, if one or more of the conditions are not satisfied, the UE may determine that a condition for a valid beam prediction report is not satisfied and may proceed to either 716b or 717 (e.g., No branch) .

[0076] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure the same periodicity for the DL-RS resources for the measurement for inference / prediction. The network entity may refrain from configuring different periodicities for the DL-RS resources for the measurement for inference / prediction, and the UE may not expect the network entity configure different periodicities for the DL-RS resources for the measurement for inference / prediction. The network entity may transmit the DL-RS resources for the measurement for inference / prediction within S slots or milli-seconds, where the S slot (s) may be consecutive slots, and the value of S may be configured by the network entity or pre-defined or reported by the UE.

[0077] In some embodiments, the conditions above to determine whether a report for inference / monitoring is valid or not may be common or separate for different beam prediction cases (e.g., spatial-domain beam prediction or temporal beam prediction) . The conditions above to determine whether a report for inference / monitoring is valid or not may be common or separate for different beam prediction report quality (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI, predicted RSRP, BAI) .

[0078] In some embodiments, the K transmission occasions above may be before a reference time (e.g., CSI reference resource) . The reference time is X symbols or slots before the first symbol or slot of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report. The value of X may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity or reported by the UE capability. The value of X may be further determined based on the beam prediction inference / monitoring report type (e.g., periodic / semi-persistent / aperiodic report) . The value of X may be further determined based on the beam prediction report quantity (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI, predicted RSRP, BAI) .

[0079] In some embodiments, the value of K may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity or reported by the UE capability. The value of K may be further determined based on at least one of the followings: the beam prediction cases (e.g., spatial-domain beam prediction or temporal beam prediction) ; the beam prediction inference / monitoring report type (e.g., periodic / semi-persistent / aperiodic report) ; the beam prediction report quantity (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI, predicted RSRP, BAI) .

[0080] In some embodiments, for predicted SSBRI / CRI and / or predicted RSRP report, the DL-RS resource above may refer to the DL-RS resource for set B configured in the report configuration. For BAI report, the DL-RS resource above may refer to the DL-RS resource for measurement configured in the report configuration for monitoring and the DL-RS resource for set B in the linked report configuration for inference.

[0081] In some embodiments, such as for when the DL-RS is aperiodic DL-RS, the threshold may be a UE reported threshold beamSwitchTiming when the reported value is one of the values  and enableBeamSwitchTiming is not provided, and  when the reported value of beamSwitchTiming-r16 is one of the values  and enableBeamSwitchTiming is provided, where μCSIRS is the subcarrier spacing scaling factor for the aperiodic CSI-RS.

[0082] In some embodiments, for a serving cell or serving cells in a band or band combination, the network entity may configure up to X1 resources for a resource set for set A, up to X2 resources across all resource sets for set A, up to Y1 resources for resource set for set B or channel measurement for beam prediction monitoring, and up to Y2 resources across all resource sets for L1-RSRP measurement including the set B or channel measurement for beam prediction monitoring. The value of X1, X2, Y1 or Y2 may be pre-defined or reported by the UE capability.

[0083] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure whether some conditions above should be applied for the validation of the beam prediction report. In one example, the network entity may configure whether the UE should receive the DL-RS for set B or the DL-RS for monitoring measurement for a beam prediction during DRX inactive time or during the cell DTX inactive time.

[0084] FIG. 7 is a diagram 700 illustrating an example procedure at a UE for determining whether to transmit a beam prediction report according to an embodiment. The UE may transmit a beam prediction report or perform another action based on the UE determining 514 whether one or more conditions for a valid beam prediction report are satisfied. For example, in instances when the UE determines that conditions for a valid beam prediction report are satisfied, the UE transmits 716a a valid beam prediction report. In some embodiments, when the UE determines that conditions for a valid beam prediction report are not satisfied, the UE transmits 716b an invalid (e.g., outdated) beam prediction report, or may drop or discard 717 the beam prediction report.

[0085] FIG. 8 is a diagram 800 illustrating an example of an invalid beam prediction report according to an embodiment. In instances where the UE determines that conditions for a valid beam prediction report are not satisfied and transmits 716b an invalid beam prediction report, the invalid beam prediction report may comprise an outdated beam prediction report 816b-1, where the UE may further indicate that the beam prediction report is outdated. The invalid beam prediction report may comprise a beam prediction report 816b-2 indicating the report is invalid (e.g., outdated) , and the UE may further report the cause to transmit the invalid report (e.g., the detected condition (s) to determine the report is invalid) . The invalid beam prediction report may comprise a beam prediction report 816b-3 including the inference / monitoring results, and may report at least one of the following: measured cell quality (e.g., L3-RSRP / L3-SINR / L3-RSRQ) for the cell that the DL-RS resources configured in the report configuration are associated with (e.g., current serving cell) ; measured beam quality (e.g., L1-RSRP / L1-SINR) for a subset of or all the DL-RS resources configured in the report configuration, and / or the SSBRI / CRI for the reported DL-RS resources; or target accuracy (e.g., confidence level or beam prediction accuracy) for the reported beam prediction results. The invalid beam prediction report may comprise fallback results 816b-4 based on the DL-RS resources for the channel measurement. The fallback results may not require beam prediction (e.g., beam report based on the DL-RS resources for measurement configured in the report configuration) . In one example, the UE may report L1-RSRP / L1-SINR and / or SSBRI / CRI for a subset of or all the DL-RS resources. The invalid beam prediction report may comprise beam prediction report 816b-5 based on a code point. The beam prediction report may be based on a certain value for at least one field (e.g., at least one predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP) based on a predefined / reserved value (e.g., the first or last code-point) .

[0086] In some embodiments, the UE may determine to transmit 716b the invalid beam prediction report based on at least one of: a time-domain behavior for the beam prediction report, a beam prediction use case, a report quantity for the beam prediction, or the configuration from the network entity. In some embodiments, the UE may drop the beam prediction report if it is a periodic or semi-persistent report, and the UE may transmit the invalid beam prediction report (e.g., 816b-1, 816b-2, 816b-3, 816b-4, 816b-5) otherwise. In some embodiments, for aperiodic report, the UE may determine whether the DCI triggering the aperiodic report also schedules uplink shared channel (UL-SCH) , i.e., data. In one example, the UE may drop the beam prediction report and / or ignore the DCI scheduling the beam prediction report if it is a periodic or semi-persistent report or is aperiodic report and the scheduling DCI does not schedule UL-SCH, and the UE may transmit the invalid beam prediction report (e.g., 816b-1, 816b-2, 816b-3, 816b-4, 816b-5) . In some embodiments, if the beam prediction is for temporal beam prediction, the UE may transmit the invalid beam prediction report (e.g., 816b-2, 816b-3, 816b-4, 816b-5) ; otherwise, the UE may transmit the invalid beam prediction report (e.g., 816b-1, 816b-2, 816b-3, 816b-4, 816b-5) . In some embodiments, the UE may transmit different invalid beam prediction reports for predicted SSBRI / CRI or predicted RSRP report and for BAI report. In some embodiments, the network entity may configure or indicate the UE behavior when one or multiple of the conditions for an invalid beam prediction report is detected.

[0087] FIG. 9 is a diagram 900 illustrating an example of a beam prediction report 916 according to an embodiment. For example, a first beam prediction report 916-1 may be based on predicted beam index (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI) in addition to reporting the predicted SSBRI (s)  / CRI (s) , the UE may further report at least one of the followings, which may be configured by the network entity: an indicator indicating whether the predicted SSBRI (s)  / CRI (s) is outdated; one or multiple indicator (s) indicating whether each or all the reported predicted SSBRI (s)  / CRI (s) is valid or not; measured L1-RSRP / L1-SINR for at least one of the set B DL-RS resources, SSBRI / CRI for the set B DL-RS resources with the L1-RSRP / L1-SINR reported, or a confidence level or beam prediction accuracy for each or all the reported predicted SSBRI (s)  / CRI (s) . A second beam prediction report 916-2 may be based on predicted RSRP (e.g., predicted RSRP or predicted RSRP and predicted SSBRI / CRI) in addition to reporting the predicted RSRP or predicted RSRP and predicted SSBRI (s)  / CRI (s) , the UE may further report at least one of the followings, which may be configured by the network entity: an indicator indicating whether the predicted RSRP is outdated; one or multiple indicator (s) indicating whether each or all the reported predicted RSRP is valid or not; measured L1-RSRP / L1-SINR for at least one of the set B DL-RS resources; SSBRI / CRI for the set B DL-RS resources with the L1-RSRP / L1-SINR reported; or a confidence level for each or all the reported predicted RSRP. A third beam prediction report 916-3 may be based on BAI, in addition to reporting the BAI, the UE may further report at least one of the followings, which may be configured by the network entity: an indicator indicating whether the BAI is outdated or invalid; measured L1-RSRP / L1-SINR for at least one of the set B DL-RS resources in the linked report configuration; SSBRI / CRI for the set B DL-RS resources in the linked report configuration with the L1-RSRP / L1-SINR reported; measured L1-RSRP / L1-SINR for at least one of the DL-RS resources in the report configuration for BAI report; or SSBRI / CRI for the DL-RS resources in the report configuration for BAI report with the L1-RSRP / L1-SINR reported.

[0088] In some embodiments, if the payload size for valid beam prediction report and invalid beam prediction report is different, the UE may further include paddings in the valid or invalid beam prediction report to have the same payload size to avoid the blind detection in the network entity side.

[0089] In some embodiments, after detecting one or multiple of the conditions for invalid beam prediction report for a CSI report configuration, the UE may report a recommendation of deactivation of the CSI report configuration. The UE may transmit the report via an RRC message (e.g., UE assistance information) , MAC-CE, or UCI.

[0090] FIG. 10 is a diagram 1000 illustrating an example of a beam prediction report procedure according to an embodiment. Diagram 1000 provides an example of determining whether the beam prediction is valid or not based on whether at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource for measurement for inference / monitoring in DRX active time or at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource for measurement for inference / monitoring in one or multiple cell DTX active periods. In some embodiments, multiple DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1032 and DL-RSN 1034) may be transmitted within a period 1028 that is associated with a DRX inactive time and / or a cell DTX inactive period (s) . In some embodiments, multiple DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1032 and DL-RSN 1034) may be transmitted within Q transmission occasions for each DL-RS (e.g., 1026) or within a period 1030 that is associated with a DRX active time and / or cell DTX active period (s) . A reference time (e.g., 1036) may be received by the UE prior to transmission of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report (e.g., 1038) . In some embodiments, if Q ≥ K, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is valid. Otherwise, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is invalid.

[0091] FIG. 11 is a diagram illustrating another example of a beam prediction report procedure according to an embodiment. Diagram 1100 provides an example of determining whether the beam prediction report is valid or not based on the offset between the first or last transmission occasion of the at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource and the first slot for the prediction is smaller than or equal to a threshold. In some embodiments, multiple DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1132 and DL-RSN 1134) may be transmitted within K transmission occasions for each DL-RS. A reference time (e.g., 1136) may be received by the UE prior to transmission of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report (e.g., 1138) . A first prediction slot (e.g., 1140) and a second prediction slot (e.g., 1142) may be configured after transmission of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report (e.g., 1138) . In some embodiments, if the offset between the first or last transmission occasion of the at least K transmission occasions for each of the DL-RS resource and the first slot for the prediction is less than or equal to a threshold, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is valid. Otherwise, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is invalid.

[0092] FIG. 12 is a diagram 1200 illustrating another example of a beam prediction report procedure according to an embodiment. Diagram 1200 provides an example of determining whether the beam prediction report is valid or not based on the interval of the K transmission occasions for a DL-RS resource is the same. In some embodiments, multiple DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1232 and DL-RSN 1234) may be transmitted within a first interval (e.g., interval 1) and / or a second interval (e.g., interval 2) , where the first interval and the second interval may partially overlap. Additional DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1235 and DL-RSN 1237) may also be transmitted within the first interval, where these additional DL-RS may be on-demand and not scheduled. A reference time (e.g., 1236) may be received by the UE prior to transmission of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report (e.g., 1238) . Q transmission occasions may be available for each DL-RS based on interval 1. In some embodiments, if Q ≥ K, then the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is valid. Otherwise, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is invalid.

[0093] FIG. 13 is a diagram illustrating another example of a beam prediction report procedure according to an embodiment. Diagram 1300 provides an example of determining whether the beam prediction report is valid or not based on a beam quality for the K transmission occasions for at least M DL-RS resources for measurement being above a threshold. In some embodiments, multiple DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1332 and DL-RSN 1334) may be transmitted within an interval, where the beam quality of the DL-RS is measured within the interval. A reference time (e.g., 1336) may be received by the UE prior to transmission of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report (e.g., 1338) . Q transmission occasions with greater than or equal to M DL-RS resources with a beam quality greater than a threshold are measured over a second interval. In some embodiments, if Q ≥ K, then the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is valid. Otherwise, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is invalid.

[0094] FIG. 14 is a diagram illustrating another example of a beam prediction report procedure according to an embodiment. Diagram 1400 provides an example of determining whether the beam prediction report is valid or not based on DL-RS that is aperiodic DL-RS and the UE has received at least K transmission occasions for the DL-RS with a scheduling offset between the DCI triggering the DL-RS and the symbol of the DL-RS equal to or greater than a threshold. In some embodiments, the UE may receive a PDCCH (e.g., 1440) that has the DCI triggering the DL-RS (e.g., DL-RS1 1432 and DL-RSN 1434) . Multiple DL-RS may be triggered by the DCI based on a scheduling offset. Q transmission occasions may be available for each DL-RS within an interval. A reference time (e.g., 1436) may be received by the UE prior to transmission of the beam prediction inference / monitoring report (e.g., 1438) . In some embodiments, if Q ≥ K, then the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is valid. Otherwise, the beam prediction inference / monitoring report is invalid.

[0095] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure and / or activate multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction report (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP report or BAI report) where the multiple CSI report configurations may be based on different associated IDs for set A and / or set B beams, and may be configured with the same value for at least one of the following parameters: serving cell, carrier; report quantity, reportQuantity; CSI resources for set A (e.g., resourcesForPrediction) ; CSI resources for set B or monitoring measurement (e.g., resourcesForChannelMeasurement) ; time-domain prediction configuration (e.g., gap for two consecutive time instances for prediction) ; offset between the most recent transmission occasion of the set B DL-RS and the first instance for prediction; or report type (e.g., aperiodic / semi-persistent / periodic) .

[0096] For such CSI report configuration, the network entity may refrain from configuring the CSI report sub-configuration. In one example, if the UE is configured with a CSI-ReportConfig that contains a list of sub-configurations, provided by csi-ReportSubConfigToAddModList, the UE does not expect the higher layer parameter reportQuantity to be set to 'cri-RSRP' , 'cri-SINR' , 'cri-SINR-Index' , 'cri-RSRP-Index' , 'none' , 'ssb-Index-RSRP' , 'ssb-Index-SINR' , 'ssb-Index-RSRP-Index' , 'ssb-Index-SINR-Index' , 'tdcp' , ‘predicted-ssb-Index’ , ‘predicted-cri’ , ‘predicted-RSRP’ , ‘predicted-ssb-Index-RSRP’ , ‘predicted-cri-RSRP’ , or ‘BAI’ ; otherwise, the UE may  be configured with a CSI-ReportConfig that contains the higher layer parameter reportQuantity to be set to one of the qualities above. Thus, if the network entity configures a CSI-ReportConfig that contains a list of sub-configurations, provided by csi-ReportSubConfigToAddModList, the network entity refrains from configuring the higher layer parameter reportQuantity to be set to 'cri-RSRP' , 'cri-SINR' , 'cri-SINR-Index' , 'cri-RSRP-Index' , 'none' , 'ssb-Index-RSRP' , 'ssb-Index-SINR' , 'ssb-Index-RSRP-Index' , 'ssb-Index-SINR-Index' , 'tdcp' , ‘predicted-ssb-Index’ , ‘predicted-cri’ , ‘predicted-RSRP’ , ‘predicted-ssb-Index-RSRP’ , ‘predicted-cri-RSRP’ , or ‘BAI’ ; otherwise, the network entity may configure with a CSI-ReportConfig that contains the higher layer parameter reportQuantity to be set to one of the qualities above; otherwise, the network entity may configure a CSI-ReportConfig that contains the higher layer parameter reportQuantity to be set to one of the qualities above.

[0097] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure the same associated ID for the same set A or set B DL-RS resources in different CSI report configurations. Thus, the network entity may refrain from configuring different associated ID for the same set A or set B DL-RS resources in different CSI report configurations. The UE does not expect the network entity configures different associated ID for the same set A or set B DL-RS resources in different CSI report configurations.

[0098] In some embodiments, to simplify the UE complexity, the network entity may configure or activate up to X CSI report configurations with different associated IDs for set A DL-RS or different set A DL-RSs in a serving cell or across serving cells in a band or band combination. The network entity may configure or activate up to Y CSI report configurations with different associated IDs for set B DL-RS or different set B DL-RSs in a serving cell or across serving cells in a band or band combination. The network entity may configure or activate up to Z CSI report configurations with different associated IDs for set A and set B DL-RS or different set A and set B DL-RSs in a serving cell or across serving cells in a band or band combination. The value of X, Y, or Z may be pre-defined (e.g., 1) or reported by the UE, via UE capability report or UE assistance information report.

[0099] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction inference report and multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction monitoring report, and they are one-to-one linked (e.g., one-to-one mapping) , as shown for example in diagram 1500 of FIG. 15. For example, a first CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 1 1550) is linked with a fourth CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 4 1556) , a second CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 2 1552) is linked with a fifth CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 5 1558) , and a third CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 3 1554) is linked with a sixth CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 6 1560) .

[0100] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction inference report and multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction monitoring report, and one CSI report configuration for monitoring report can be mapped (e.g., N-to-one mapping) to multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction, as shown for example in diagram 1600 of FIG. 16. For example, a first CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 1 1650) , a second CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 2 1652) , and a third CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 3 1654) may be linked to a fourth CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 4 1656) . Then when the UE may report the BAI corresponding to a subset of or all the linked CSI report configurations, where the CSI report configurations for the BAI report may be configured or indicated by the network entity or reported by the UE.

[0101] In some implementations, the network entity may configure multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction inference report and multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction monitoring report, and one CSI report configuration for monitoring report can be mapped (e.g., N-to-M mapping) to multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction with the same set A configuration, as shown for example in diagram 1700 of FIG. 17. For example, a first CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 1 1750) and a second CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 2 1752) may be linked to a fourth CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 4 1756) , while a third CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 3 1754) may be linked to a sixth CSI report configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig 6 1760) . Then when the UE may report the BAI corresponding to a subset of or all the linked CSI report configurations, where the CSI report configurations for the BAI report may be configured or indicated by the network entity or reported by the UE.

[0102] In some implementations, for a set B DL-RS resource based on an associated ID, the network entity may refrain from updating its TCI state or updating its TCI state based on a different QCL source (e.g., different SSBs) . Alternatively, the UE may ignore the TCI update for the set B DL-RS resource based on an associated ID. If the set B DL-RS resource is configured to follow the indicated TCI state, the UE may update the TCI state for the channels that follow the indicated TCI state other than the set B DL-RS after receiving the signalling indicating a TCI state.

[0103] In some implementations, if the network entity configures aperiodic DL-RS (e.g., aperiodic CSI-RS) as the set B DL-RS or DL-RS for monitoring measurement, the network entity may refrain from scheduling the DL-RS with a scheduling offset smaller than a threshold, where the threshold may be pre-defined or reported by the UE. Thus, for this case, the UE does not expect to be scheduled with the aperiodic DL-RS configured for set B with a scheduling offset smaller than the threshold. In one example, the threshold is the UE reported threshold beamSwitchTiming when the reported value is one of the values and enableBeamSwitchTiming is not provided, and when the reported value of beamSwitchTiming-r16 is one of the values and enableBeamSwitchTiming is provided, where μCSIRS is the subcarrier spacing scaling factor for the aperiodic CSI-RS.

[0104] Then the network entity may configure or trigger the UE to transmit one or multiple report corresponding to the configured CSI report configurations. Then, the network entity can determine whether to turn on / off some antennas.

[0105] In some embodiments, the network entity may refrain from configuring the aperiodic DL-RS as set B DL-RS or DL-RS for monitoring measurement. Alternatively, the network entity may refrain from configuring the aperiodic DL-RS as set B DL-RS or DL-RS for monitoring measurement for a serving cell with at least one of the TCI states is configured with QCL-TypeD (spatial reception parameters) or for a serving cell in a certain frequency range (e.g., frequency range 2, frequency range 3, or above a frequency range above 10 GHz) . Alternatively, the UE may report whether it supports aperiodic DL-RS as set B DL-RS or DL-RS for monitoring measurement, or whether it supports aperiodic DL-RS as set B DL-RS or DL-RS for monitoring measurement for a serving cell with at least one of the TCI state is configured with QCL-TypeD (spatial reception parameters) or for a serving cell in a certain frequency range (e.g., frequency range 2, frequency range 3, or above a frequency range above 10 GHz) .

[0106] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure and / or activate at least one CSI report configuration for beam prediction report (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP report or BAI report) . The network entity may configure multiple candidate associated IDs for set A or set B associated with the CSI report configuration, and indicate the associated ID (s) for set A or set B by the DCI triggering the beam prediction report. Then the UE performs the beam prediction report based on the indicated associated ID (s) .

[0107] FIG. 18 is a diagram 1800 illustrating an example of dynamic associated ID indication for beam prediction according to an embodiment. In the diagram 1800 of FIG. 18, the network entity may configure multiple aperiodic trigger states (e.g., CSI-AperiodicTriggerState) and each trigger state may include one or multiple CSI associated report configuration (e.g., CSI-AssociatedReportConfigInfo) . The network entity may configure the CSI associated report configurations (e.g., 1862, 1864, 1866) linked with the CSI report configuration (e.g., 1850) . For each CSI associated report configuration, the network entity may configure the report ID to be based on the CSI report configuration ID for the CSI report configuration for beam prediction report (e.g., 1870) , and configure the associated ID for set A or set B. The network entity may further configure the DL-RS for set A or set B in the CSI associated report configuration. Then when triggering the beam prediction report, the network entity may indicate the associated ID for set A or set B for the beam prediction report by the CSI request in the PDCCH (e.g., DCI 1868) .

[0108] In another example, the network entity may dynamically indicate the DL-RS resource set for set A and / or set B measurement, and the associated ID is based on the same associated ID configured in the linked CSI report configuration.

[0109] In some embodiments, the network entity may update the associated ID for set A and / or set B for a CSI report configuration. The network entity may transmit the control signaling by an RRC message, MAC-CE or DCI. After receiving the signaling, the UE may report whether the CSI report configuration with the updated associated ID is applicable or not. The UE may transmit the report by an RRC message, MAC-CE or UCI. If the UE reports the CSI report configuration is applicable, the network entity may activate the CSI report configuration (e.g., if the CSI report configuration is for semi-persistent or aperiodic report) or the network entity and UE may determine the CSI report configuration is activated (e.g., if the CSI report configuration is for periodic report) ; otherwise, the network entity and UE may determine the CSI report configuration is deactivated.

[0110] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure and / or activate at least one CSI report configuration for beam prediction report (e.g., predicted SSBRI / CRI / RSRP report or BAI report) and in the CSI report configuration, the network entity may configure and / or activate one or multiple CSI report sub-configurations.

[0111] FIG. 19 is a diagram 1900 illustrating an example of a CSI report sub-configuration for beam prediction according to an embodiment. In the diagram 1900 of FIG. 19, for each CSI report sub-configuration (e.g., 1972, 1974, 1976) the network entity may configure at least one of the following: an associated ID for set A beam or set A and set B beam; an associated ID for set B beam; DL-RS resources for set A, which may be a subset of the DL-RS resources for set A configured in the CSI report configuration (e.g., 1950) ; DL-RS resources for set B, which may be a subset of the DL-RS resources for set B configured in the CSI report configuration (e.g., 1950) ; or DL-RS resources for monitoring measurement, which may be a subset of the DL-RS resources for monitoring measurement in the CSI report configuration (e.g., 1950) . Then the UE may transmit the CSI report including one or multiple CSI sub-reports corresponding to the configured / activated CSI report sub-configurations. Then the network entity may transmit configure different resources in different CSI sub-configurations based on different number of antennas and may determine whether to turn on / off some antennas based on the UE’s report.

[0112] In some embodiments, the network entity may configure and / or activate multiple CSI report configurations for beam prediction report. The details of the multiple CSI report configurations can refer to the description discussed herein and is not repeated for ease of duplication. For each CSI report configuration, the network entity may configure specific associated ID for set B. The associated IDs for the multiple CSI report configurations may be the same or different. Alternatively, the network entity may configure multiple set B DL-RS resource sets and multiple associated IDs for set B in a CSI report configuration, where the associated IDs and the set B DL-RS resource sets may be one-to-one mapped. For the UE, it performs measurements on DL-RS resources of set B indicated by at least one said associated ID. Based on the actual measurement results, the UE determines at least one associated ID of set B.

[0113] If at least one associated ID of set B are determined, the UE performs inferences based on the determined associated ID of set B and related associated ID of set A. The UE generates and transmits the beam prediction report corresponding to the configured CSI report configuration. Optionally, the UE can report the associated ID information of set B, or the associated ID (s) information of set B and set A (e.g., in the beam prediction report) .

[0114] If none associated ID of set B is determined, the UE determines the beam prediction inference report is invalid. The detailed UE behaviors refer to the previous description of embodiments to handle invalid beam prediction inference / monitoring report.

[0115] FIG. 20 is a diagram 2000 illustrating an example procedure at a network entity according to an embodiment. In some aspects, the network entity 104 may consider one or more factors (e.g., 2018a-e) to determine 518 whether to configure NES based on the beam prediction report. The beam prediction report may comprise the first beam prediction report or the second beam prediction report received from the UE, as discussed herein. For example, the network entity 104 determines if an update to TCI (e.g., 2018a) is to be performed based on the beam prediction report. The network entity 104 may determine to activate or deactivate an antenna panel (e.g., 2018b) based on the beam prediction report. The network entity 104 may determine to update associated identifier for the first set of beams or the second set of beams (e.g., 2018c) based on the beam prediction report. The network entity 104 may determine to activate subconfiguration for the beam prediction report (e.g., 2018d) based on the beam prediction report. The network entity 104 may determine to activate multiple CSI report configurations for the beam prediction report (e.g., 2018e) based on the beam prediction report. If the network entity determines to configure NES based on the one or more factors (e.g., 2018a-e) and the beam prediction report, the network entity transmits 2078 NES configuration to the UE (e.g., Yes branch) . If the network entity determines to not configure NES based on the one or more factors (e.g., 2018a-e) and the beam prediction report, the network entity refrains 2080 from transmission of the NES configuration (e.g., No branch) .

[0116] FIG. 21 illustrates a flowchart 2100 of a method of wireless communication at a UE. With reference to FIGs. 1-14, the method may be performed by the UE 102.

[0117] The UE 102 optionally transmits 2102, to a network entity, a UE capability message indicating support for the beam prediction procedure. The UE capability message includes a supported condition for the valid beam prediction report. For example, FIG. 5 shows that the UE 102 optionally transmits 502, to a network entity 104, a UE capability message indicating support for the beam prediction procedure.

[0118] The UE 102 receives 2104, from the network entity, a configuration for a beam prediction procedure. For example, FIG. 5 shows that the UE 102 receives 504, from the network entity 104, a configuration for a beam prediction procedure.

[0120] The UE 102 optionally receives 2108, from the network entity, a second control signal to update the first DL-RS resource or the second DL-RS resource. For example, FIG. 5 shows that the UE 102 optionally receives 508, from the network entity 104, a second control signal to update the first DL-RS resource or the second DL-RS resource.

[0121] The UE 102 receives 2110, from the network entity, DL-RS for a channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure. For example, FIG. 5 shows that the UE 102 receives 510, from the network entity 104, DL-RS for a channel measurement associated with the beam prediction procedure.

[0122] The UE 102 optionally receives 2112, from the network entity, a third control signal to activate or trigger the beam prediction report. For example, FIG. 5 shows that the UE 102 optionally receives 512, from the network entity 104, a third control signal to activate or trigger the beam prediction report. The third control signal may indicate at least one of: a subset of first DL-RS resources for the prediction for a first set of beams or a subset of second DL-RS resources for the channel measurement for a second set of beams, or one or more associated IDs for the first set of beams and for the second set of beams.

[0123] The UE 102 determines 2114 whether a condition for a valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is satisfied. For example, FIGs. 5-7 show that the UE 102 determines 514 whether a condition for a valid beam prediction report of the beam prediction procedure is satisfied.

[0124] The UE 102 transmits 2116, to the network entity, a beam prediction report according to the configuration based on the determining whether the condition for the valid beam prediction report is satisfied. For example, FIG. 5 shows that the UE 102 transmits 516, to the network entity 104, a beam prediction report according to the configuration based on the determining whether the condition for the valid beam prediction report is satisfied.

[0125] In some embodiments, the configuration for the beam prediction procedure includes: a first DL-RS resource for prediction, a second DL-RS resource for the channel measurement, and an associated identifier, ID, for at least one of the first DL-RS resource and the second DL-RS resource.

[0126] In some embodiments, the configuration for the beam prediction procedure includes a plurality of CSI report configurations, where the plurality of CSI report configurations include a first CSI report configuration for a beam prediction inference report and a second CSI report configuration for a beam prediction monitoring report. In some embodiments, the plurality of CSI report configurations includes N first CSI report configurations linked with N second CSI report configurations. In some embodiments, the plurality of CSI report configurations includes the second CSI report configuration linked with N first CSI report configurations. In some embodiments, the plurality of CSI report configurations includes N first CSI report configurations linked with M second CSI report configurations.

[0164] Devices incorporating the aspects and features described herein may also include additional components and features for the implementation and practice of the claimed and described aspects and features. For example, transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily includes a number of components for analog and digital purposes, such as hardware components, antennas, RF-chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processor (s) , interleavers, adders / summers, etc. Techniques described herein may be practiced in a wide variety of devices, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc., of varying configurations.

[0165] The description herein is provided to enable a person skilled in the art to practice the various aspects described herein. Various modifications to these aspects will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other aspects. Thus, the claims are not limited to the aspects described herein, but are to be interpreted in view of the full scope of the present disclosure consistent with the language of the claims.

[0166] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” “when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may” , “might” , and “can” , as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “can” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0167] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C” include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C, or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets should be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more. Terms or articles such as “a” , “an” , and / or “the” may refer to one of an item, feature, element, etc., that the term or article precedes, or may refer to more than one of said item, feature, element, etc. that the term or article precedes. For example, the recitation “a widget” does not preclude reference to multiples of said widget, as “multiple widgets” necessarily includes “a widget” . Hence, the recitation “a widget” may be interpreted as “at least one widget” or, similarly, interpreted as “one or more widgets” .

[0168] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term.

[0169] Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Hence, like numbers may refer to like actions.

[0170] Structural and functional equivalents to elements of the various aspects described throughout this disclosure that are known or later come to be known to those of ordinary skill in the art are expressly incorporated herein by reference and are encompassed by the claims. The words “module, ” “mechanism, ” “element, ” “device, ” and the like may not be a substitute for the word “means. ” As such, no claim element is to be construed as a means plus function unless the element is expressly recited using the phrase “means for. ” As used herein, the phrase “based on” shall not be construed as a reference to a closed set of information, one or more conditions, one or more factors, or the like. In other words, the phrase “based on A” , where “A” may be information, a condition, a factor, or the like, shall be construed as “based at least on A” unless specifically recited differently.
