Description

SYSTEM INFORMATION BLOCK SCHEDULINGFIELD

[0001] Various example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication and in particular, to methods, devices, apparatuses and computer readable storage medium for system information block (SIB) scheduling.BACKGROUND

[0002] A system information block (SIB) includes system information broadcasted by a network device to user equipment (UEs) within a cell. This information is vital for UEs to access the network, synchronize with the network, and perform necessary operations. Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) refers to a type of wireless communication network that extends beyond traditional terrestrial (ground-based) infrastructure. These networks leverage non-ground-based platforms, such as satellites, high-altitude platforms (HAPs) , and aerial vehicles, to provide communication services. NTN is particularly important for extending coverage to remote and underserved areas, as well as for providing global connectivity. Thus, it is worth studying the transmission of SIB in NTN.SUMMARY

[0042] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the terminal device 110 operating as a UE and the network device 120 operating as a base station. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.

[0043] In some example embodiments, a transmission direction from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a transmission direction from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0044] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0045] In some examples, it proposes an introduction of a new feature (IoT NTN TDD) that allows the operator to use radio resources in a periodic subset of the UL and DL subframes in NRF radio frames to achieve TDD operation in a satellite access node (SAN) and IoT NTN UE, thus limiting power consumption. In particular, it specifies a new NB-IoT TDD NTN mode based on minimum necessary changes to the NB-IoT NTN FDD frame structure and procedures, including: definition, configuration (if needed) and signaling (if needed) of the periodic pattern, necessary adaptation (if needed) and associated UE procedures. For example, it proposed to support a pattern with a period of 9 radio frames for a target mobile satellite service (MSS) allocated band, where D=U=8 with a fixed guard period. Further, it needs to consider whether there is a need for a mechanism to achieve an adjustable guard period for the purpose of allowing deployment with the TDD frame structure of the legacy system operating in the target MSS allocated band. In addition, it also specifies a new NB-IoT TDD operating NTN band for the MSS allocation spanning 1616-1626.5 MHz for DL and UL. Further, the following aspects have been specified: band numbering, SAN and UE radio frequency (RF) characteristics, DL and UL channelization, and channel bandwidth as 200 kHz. The above examples extend the deployment of NB-IoT NTN, by extending support to additional existing, in-orbit satellite resources, in particular additional existing Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) systems, and including enabling additional lower-complexity satellite payloads, such as implementations without diplexer.

[0046] The target of above examples is to come up with a new NB-IoT TDD NTN mode of operation with a minimum change to the existing NB-IoT NTN FDD frame structure and procedures. For TDD NTN, the TDD frame may be of 9 radio frames (i.e., with a duration of 90ms) with each UL and DL subchannel durations of 8ms, in reference to the Iridium frame structure, as shown in FIG. 2. At the satellite, all downlink NB-IoT channels / signals in a cell can only use one of the downlink slots in the TDD frame structure 200 (DL1, DL2, DL3 or DL4) across 90ms periods. The same downlink slot is used in all the 90ms periods. At the satellite, all uplink NB-IoT channels in a cell can only use one of the uplink slots in the TDD frame structure 200 (UL1, UL2, UL2 or UL4) across 90ms periods. The same uplink slot is used in all the 90ms periods. The one uplink slot and one downlink slot in the TDD frame structure have the same index (DL1 and UL1, DL2 and UL2, DL3 and UL3, or DL4 and UL4) .

[0047] However, the TDD NTN periodicity of 90ms (i.e., 9 radio frames) is not a power of 2 or a scaling of the 10ms radio frame, i.e., on the contrary to the legacy (NB-IoT NTN frequency division duplexing (FDD) ) time elements. Thus, it may significantly impact the availability of narrowband secondary synchronization signal (NSSS) , master information block (MIB) -NB, SIB1-NB, narrowband physical random access channel (NPRACH) , and the like, as reusing the existing NB-IoT NTN FDD channels and signaling mechanisms is to be adopted.

[0048] After MIB-NB decoding, UE needs to decode SIB1-NB to get additional information of the NB-IoT cell including the scheduling information of other system information blocks (i.e., other SIBs-NB) . In FDD, the transmission of SIB1-NB is scheduled in eight frames within 16 contiguous frames. SIB1-NB transmission occurs in subframe #4. The starting frame for the first transmission of the SIB1-NB is derived from the cell physical cell identifier (PCID) and the number of repetitions within the 2560ms period and repetitions are made, equally spaced, within the 2560 ms period. Transport block size (TBS) for SystemInformationBlockType1-NB and the repetitions made within the 2560 ms are indicated by schedulingInfoSIB1 field in the MIB-NB. If additionalTransmissionSIB1 is set to TRUE in the MIB-NB, additional SIB1-NB transmission occurs in subframe #3 of the same radio frames where SIB1-NB transmission occurs with the same number of repetitions.

[0049] For the transmission of SIB1-NB, different repetition patterns (e.g., 4, 8 and 16) and frame offsets (e.g., 0, 1, 16, 32, 48) are possible. For example, FIG. 3 shows a schematic diagram 300 for SIB1-NB scheduling over one period. Specifically, FIG. 3 shows the example of SIB1-NB scheduling over one period with schedulingInfoSIB1=10 and PCID=3.

[0050] In addition, SIB1-NB may use Tail biting convolution coding. For example, Table 1 below shows usage of channel coding scheme and coding rate for transport channel (TrCHs) . Table 1

[0051] Moreover, scrambling sequency is reinitiated for each repetition. For example, scrambling shall be done according to clause 6.3.1 in technical specification (TS) 36.211. If the NPDSCH is carrying the BCCH, the scrambling sequence generator may be initialized with Otherwise, the scrambling sequence generator shall be initialized with where ns is the first slot of the transmission of the codeword. In case of NPDSCH repetitions and the NPDSCH carrying the BCCH, the scrambling sequence generator may be reinitialized according to the expression above for each repetition.

[0052] According to TS 36.211, the NPDSCH will be postponed to a next available NB-IoT DL subframe if the UE can know the TDD frame structure before SIB1 acquisition based on the ongoing 3GPP discussion. In case of NPDSCH transmissions, in subframes that are not NB-IoT downlink subframes, the NPDSCH transmission is postponed until the next NB-IoT downlink subframe. As shown in FIG. 4A to FIG. 4C which show schematic diagrams of 4 repetitions (shown in 410) , 8 repetitions (shown in 420) , and 16 repetitions (shown in 430) , respectively, for each repetition, as only one block will be received, and then only the first block of the SIB1-NB will be received, which is even less than the size of the system bits. This will result in all the SIB1-NB in each repetition cannot be transmitted completely and SIB1-NB cannot be transmitted to UE eventually. Additionally, many of the SIB1-NB resources will fall into unavailable DL resources in the TDD frame structure and the number of available resources for SIB1-NB is significantly reduced and chance for SIB1-NB block transmission significantly reduced. Thus, it needs to solve the issue that SIB1-NB cannot be transmitted completely as NPDSCH will postpone to next DL subframe when collide with non NB-IoT DL subframe.

[0053] In accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for SIB transmission. Specifically, subblocks of SIB are sequentially mapped on occasions that is active / valid DL subframe, and the subblocks can be mapped to repetitions with repetition duration for each repetition as 1 or multiple of a unit length in the SIB1 unchanged duration, thereby providing low latency for SIB receiving / decoding and suitable for different levels of coverage requirement.

[0054] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0055] FIG. 5 illustrates an example signaling flow 500 of SIB transmission according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the signaling flow 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. For example, the first apparatus 510 may be implemented at the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1 and the second apparatus 520 may be implemented at the network device 120 in FIG. 1.

[0056] The second apparatus 520 determines (5010) one or more subblocks of a SIB. In some example embodiments, the SIB may be SIB1, such as, SIB1-NB. For example, the second apparatus 520 may determine 8 subblocks of the SIB. It is noted that the second apparatus 520 may determine any proper number of subblocks of the SIB. In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 520 may generate SIB1-NB code by convolutional coding as 8 subblocks.

[0057] In some example embodiments, the SIB may include information / data bits and parity bits. By way of example, the SIB may include 600 bits including 200 information bits and 400 parity bits. Each subblock may include a portion of bits contained in the SIB. For example, at least one subblock may only include information bits, at least one subblock may include information bits and parity bits, and at least one subblock may only include parity bits.

[0058] The second apparatus 520 maps (5020) the one or more subblocks on a set of available resources for the SIB during a period of the SIB in a sequential manner. The period of SIB used herein may refer to a time duration within which the SIB is unchanged. For example, the period of the SIB unchanged duration (where the SIB is unchanged during the period duration) may be 2560ms. The set of available resources for the SIB is resources available for downlink and scheduled for the SIB in time division duplexing (TDD) frame structure. For example, the second apparatus 520 may map the 8 subblocks of the SIB1-NB on available resources for SIB1-NB in the TDD frame structure, by an order of 8 subblocks. By way of example, the second apparatus 520 may map the 8 subblocks of the SIB1-NB into all available resources for SIB1-NB unchanged duration during a period of the SIB1-NB in the TDD frame structure with 90ms period. As described above, the subblocks of the SIB are not mapped to pre-divided fixed repetition duration as in legacy approach, while the mapping of the subblocks is based on sequential mapping, which results the repetition duration is always covering 8 available resources for subblocks of the SIB. In this way, it will guarantee the first apparatus 510 can receive one subblock of the SIB in each available resource for SIB1-NB in 90ms TDD frame structure.

[0059] In some example embodiments, the mapping of the SIB may be with one or more repetitions within the period of the SIB unchanged duration. In some embodiments, if there is one repetition for a transmission of the SIB, the first apparatus 510 may map the one or more subblocks of the SIB on the set of available resources in a cyclic and sequential manner. For example, the mapping may be sequential, such as 1, 2, …8, 1, 2, ……. For example, when there is one repetition, the mapping of the SIB1-NB blocks may be cyclically and sequentially mapped on available resources for SIB1-NB in TDD frame structure.

[0060] In some example other embodiments, there may be a number of repetitions. In this case, the duration for the transmission of SIB may be divided into a plurality of parts based on the number of repetitions, and each part may correspond to one repetition of the SIB. For example, if there are N repetitions (where N is an integer) , the unchanging SIB1-NB duration (i.e. 2560ms) may be divided into N parts, with each part corresponding to one repetition of SIB1-NB. In this case, the second apparatus 520 may map the one or more subblocks of the SIB on the set of available resources within each part of the duration for the transmission of the SIB in a cyclic and sequential manner. For example, if a size of the part for each repetition is about 2560 / N, the mapping of the SIB1-NB blocks may be cyclically sequentially mapped on the available resource for SIB1-NB within the 2560 / N ms. As another example, the number of available resources for SIB1-NB in the unchanging SIB1-NB duration (i.e. 2560ms) may be divided into N parts, with N-1 parts corresponding to ceiling (the number of available resources / N) available resource and the last part corresponding to the number of available resources – (N-1) *ceiling (number of available resource / N) available resource. As a further example, for each repetition, an offset of a first occasion for the transmission of the SIB may be based on the first available frame that includes an available resource for 90ms frame structure, for example, the first frame with SIB1-NB may satisfy Nf mod 9 = 0 after (N_repetition-1) *M, where Nf represents the frame number and N_repetition represents the index of previous repetition and M represents the duration length for the previous repetitions.

[0061] In some example embodiments, a duration of repetition of the SIB may be as one or multiple times of a length unit in the TDD frame structure. In this case, the length unit may be 160ms or multiple of 160ms (such as, 320ms, or 480ms and the like) or 100ms or multiple of 100ms (such as, 200ms or 300ms and the like) . It is noted that the lenght unit may be any suitable value. For example, compared with legacy SIB repetition duration as 160ms, the duration of the repetition is enlarged as multiple times of 160ms and increase the number of available resources for SIB1-NB. By way of example, the duration of the repetition of the SIB may be increased from 16 frames to a larger number of frames, such as, 32 frames, 48 frames for 64 frames. In this way, there are more available resources for one repetition, thereby reducing latency for the SIB transmission. For example, there may be one repetition and one repetition duration may include 16*16 frames. As another example, there may be 2 repetitions and one repetition duration may include 8*16 frames. As a further example, there may be 3 repetitions and one repetition duration may include 6*16 frames with last repetition have 4 frames. In some example embodiments, there may be 4 repetitions and one repetition duration may include 4*16 frames. Alternatively, there may be 5 repetitions and one repetition duration may include 3*16 frames with last repetition have 1 frame. In some example embodiments, the number of available resources for the SIB in the duration of one repetition may represent the number of sub-blocks for the convolutional coding, as more resources for SIB transmission, thereby the more resulting better performance.

[0062] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 520 may indicate one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB. For example, the second apparatus 520 may transmit an indication including the one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB. In some embodiments, the indication may be transmitted on a broadcast channel. For example, the one or more subblock indexes may be a part of broadcast control channel (BCCH) -DL-SCH-Message-NB. Alternatively, the indication may be transmitted in a master information block (MIB) .

[0063] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 520 may transmit (5025) the MIB to the first apparatus 510. In some example embodiments, the MIB may indicate that the one or more subblocks of the SIB are mapped on the set of available resources in the sequential manner. Alternatively, or in addition, as mentioned above, the MIB may include the one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB.

[0064] The second apparatus 520 transmits (5030) the one or more subblocks of the SIB on the set of available resources for the SIB during the period of the SIB. That is, the first apparatus 510 receives (5030) the one or more subblocks of the SIB on the set of available resources for the SIB during the period of the SIB.

[0065] In some example embodiments, in each repetition of the SIB, the transmission of subblocks of the SIB is maintained such that subblock sequence {1, 2, …8} over the period of the SIB (for example, the period is 2560ms) can be received. Advantageously, it allows reception of all subblocks, improving robustness of decoding of the SIB.

[0066] In some example other embodiments, in each repetition, the transmission of subblocks of the SIB starts from the first subblock of the SIB whenever there is TDD DL opportunity. For example, a starting of one repetition of the SIB may be the first available resource after a previous repetition. Advantageously, it allows fast acquisition of first few sequences of the subblocks, which are more important than the latter subblocks, thereby reducing SIB acquisition latency. For example, if the first apparatus 510 has a good signal noise ratio (SNR) , decoding may be performed without a parity check.

[0067] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 510 may obtain (5040) the one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB. As mentioned above, in some embodiments, the second apparatus 520 may transmit the indication including the one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB, such as, through MIB or other broadcast message. The subblock indexes can assist the first apparatus 510 to do reordering or determine sequential transmissions applied by the network. Further, the indication of the subblocks index may also be useful for the first apparatus 510 to identify that the cell is operating in the TDD NTN mode if such indication is not provided in MIB-NB or preconfigured. In some other example embodiments, the first apparatus 510 may determine the one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB based on a rule indicating that the one or more subblocks of the SIB are mapped on the set of available resources in the sequential manner. For example, the rule may be pre-configured at the first apparatus 510.

[0068] The first apparatus 510 combines (5050) the one or more subblocks of the SIB. In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 510 may determine one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB based on the set of available resources. For example, the first apparatus 510 may determine the subblock indexes for the subblocks based on the reception order, such as, the first received subblock is assigned with index 1, the second received subblock is with assigned with index 2 and the like. In this case, the first apparatus 510 may combine (5050) the one or more subblocks of the SIB based on the one or more subblock indexes.

[0069] In some other example embodiments, the first apparatus 510 may determine one or more repetitions for a transmission of the one or more subblocks of the SIB based on the set of available resources. In this case, the first apparatus 510 may determine one or more subblock indexes of the one or more subblocks of the SIB based on available resources in the duration of repetition. In this case, the first apparatus 510 may combine (5050) the one or more subblocks of the SIB based on the one or more subblock indexes. For example, the first apparatus 510 may determine the repetition index based on the available resources in the unchanged SIB period and determine the subblock indexes based on the available resource in the repetition duration.

[0070] The first apparatus 510 decodes (5060) the combined one or more subblocks of the SIB. In some embodiments, the decoding may be after one or more repetitions of SIB in repetition durations.

[0071] According to example embodiments described with reference to FIG. 5, it provides early and fully transmission of low index SIB subblocks (the most important bits for system bits in the convolutional coding) and then following blocks (e.g. parity bits) , which provides much better performance than legacy postpone processing and significant latency reduction (also saving power at the same time) . Further, it avoids that SIB always gets postponed to the next DL occasion, which can in principle overload the system such that there are only limited or no available DL subframes for other transmissions.

[0072] FIG. 6 illustrates a flow chart of a method implemented at the first apparatus 510 according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0073] At block 610, the first apparatus 510 determines SIB1-NB subblock indexes based on the rule that 8 blocks of SIB1-NB are only on available resources for SIB1-NB in TDD frame structure. For example, as described in FIG. 5, the second apparatus 520 may generate SIB1-NB code by convolutional coding as 8 subblocks. Then the second apparatus 520 may map the 8 subblocks into the all available resources for SIB1-NB during one unchanged SIB1 period in the TDD frame structure with 90ms period. The mapping may be sequential, as 1, 2, …8, 1, 2, ……. In this embodiment, the mapping of the SIB1-NB subblocks are not mapped to pre-divided fixed repetition duration as in legacy approach but considering the TDD frame structure with 90ms period, while the new mapping is based on sequential mapping, resulting the repetition duration is always covering 8 available resources for SIB1-NB blocks. Based on this processing, it will guarantee the first apparatus 510 can receive one SIB1-NB in each available resource for SIB1-NB in 90ms TDD frame structure.

[0074] As one example, FIG. 7A and FIG. 7B shows the mapping of this step for 2560ms period for an unchanged SIB1-NB. For example, as shown in FIG. 7A, the subblocks may be mapped to available resources on frames including system frame numbers (SFN) 0, 18, 36, 54, 72, 90, 108, 126, 144, 162, 180, 198, 216, 234 and 252. Specifically, the first subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 0, the second subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 18, the third subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 36, the fourth subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 54, the fifth subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 72, the sixth subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 90, the seventh subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 108 and the eighth subblock may be mapped to the resource on SFN 126.

[0075] FIG. 7B shows the mapping in the next 2560ms, where the subblocks may be mapped to available resources on frames including SFNs 270, 288, 306, 324, 342, 360, 378, 396, 414, 432, 450, 468, 486 and 504. In this case, the first apparatus 510 can always firstly receive first 8 sequential subblocks of the SIB1-NB (for example, the subblocks on SFNs 0, 18, 36, 54, 72, 90, 108 and 126) and possible start the decoding. Further, the first apparatus 510 can always about 14-16 subblcoks for the SIB1-NB, which provides a good coverage for the SIB1-NB.

[0076] In some example embodiments, as mentioned above, there may be two repetitions for the SIB within the period of the SIB. For example, as shown in FIG. 7C, SIB1-NB scheduling and TDD DL opportunity may be over one period of 256 frames (i.e., 2560ms) , with 16*8 (=128) frames per repetition. So, in one period of 2560 ms, there are 2 repetitions with each of 128 frames. In each repetition, the transmission of SIB1-NB subblocks is maintained such that subblock sequence {1, 2, …} over the period can be achieved. This strategy allows reception of all or most of the subblocks. Further, in each repetition, the transmission starts from 1st SIB1-NB block when there is TDD DL opportunity. This strategy allows fast acquisition of first sequence of the SIB1-blocks, which are more important than later.

[0077] At block 620, based on the subblock indexes determined in step 1, the first apparatus 510 receives the subblocks of SIB1-NB one by one and combine them as preparation of decoding. At block 630, the first apparatus 510 does decoding based on the combined subblocks. In this embodiment, the earliest time for decoding is after the first apparatus receives all subblocks containing the system bits, which may be about 360ms after receiving the first subblock of the SIB1-NB, which is much smaller than 2560ms. In some embodiments, if the first apparatus 510 is in a worse coverage status, the first apparatus 510 may decode the SIB1-NB when receiving more subblocks, e.g. 540ms, 720ms, and the like.

[0078] FIG. 8 illustrates a signaling flow of SIB1 transmission according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the signaling flow 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. For example, the NB-IoT device 810 may be a TDD NTN UE which may be implemented at the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1 and the gNB 820 may be implemented at the network device 120 in FIG. 1.

[0079] The gNB 820 may transmit (8001 and 8002) a narrowband primary synchronization signal (NPSS) to the NB-IoT device 810. The NB IoT device 810 and the gNB 820 may perform (8003) a downlink synchronization.

[0081] In some other example embodiments, the gNB 820 may transmit (8009) an MIB-NB to the NB IoT device 810. The gNB 820 may then transmit (8010) subblocks of the SIB1-NB for NB-IoT TDD NTN to the NB IoT device 810. The NB IoT device 810 may determine (8011) at least one of: subblock indexes or repetition index for the subblocks of the SIB1-NB. The NB IoT device 810 may perform (8012) at least one of the followings for the received subblocks: reordering, combining and decoding.

[0082] The NB IoT device 810 may initiate (8013) a narrow band physical random access channel (NPRACH) procedure. After the NPRACH procedure, the NB IoT device 810 may establish (8014) the RRC connection with the gNB 820.

[0083] FIG. 9 shows a flowchart of an example method 900 implemented at a first apparatus in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 900 may be implemented at the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1.

[0084] At block 910, the first apparatus receives one or more subblocks of a system information block, SIB, on a set of available resources for the SIB during a period of the SIB. The SIB is unchanged during the period, and wherein the one or more subblocks of the SIB are mapped on the set of resources in a sequential manner.

[0085] At block 920, the first combines the one or more subblocks of the SIB.

[0086] At block 930, the first decodes the combined one or more subblocks of the SIB.
