[0036] As used herein, the term “common search space (CSS) ” may refer to a search space (i.e., a set of resources) that every UE needs to search for control signals for every UE or for a signaling message that is applied to every UE before dedicated channel is established for a specific UE. The term “control resource set (CORESET) ” used herein may refer to a physical resource that is used to carry a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) . The term “repetition factor” used herein may refer to the number of repetitions of a PDCCH. The term “bitmap” used herein may refer to a string including binary number. The term “monitoring occasion (MO) ” used herein may refer to a set of resources that is used for control channel monitoring.

[0037] Coverage enhancement is an important aspect of communication system design. In at least one example embodiment, coverage performance of different uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) channels may be assessed which may allow bottleneck channels to be identified. In an NTN, when considering satellite power limitations due to, for example, regulatory requirements or power split among different beams of the satellite, the UL and DL channels related to initial access may need to be enhanced.

[0038] In at least one example embodiment, a coverage enhancement may include increasing a received energy per bit. This coverage enhancement may be achieved by introducing repetitions of the channel to be enhanced. In particular, a transmission of payload data including downlink control information (DCI) of the PDCCH may be repeated one or more times to enable a receiver, such as a user equipment (UE) , to combine the received signals and improve the reliability of the demodulated and decoded signals such as bits.

[0039] Thus, in at least one example embodiment, to enhance coverage of a PDCCH, a network device such as a gNB may be configured to repeat a monitoring occasion of the PDCCH multiple times in a same or different slot of a system frame number (SFN) , and thereby allow a terminal device such as a UE to combine the received PDCCH transmissions. However, in order to be able to combine the PDCCH transmissions, the UE must know how many repetitions of the PDCCH are being sent by the gNB. Because the UE knows how many repetitions are being sent, it also knows a time span of the PDCCH repetitions. In at least one example embodiment, a UE may be configured to receive downlink control information from a PDCCH transmission from the gNB which may reduce a latency for the UE to decode the PDCCH transmission. Further, a buffer size at the UE may be decreased which may increase coverage enhancement of the UE. Additional details of the repetition of a monitoring occasion of the PDCCH are described herein.

[0040] Fig. 1 illustrates an example of a communication network to which examples disclosed herein may be applied. The communication network or a cellular communication network may comprise a network node 110 providing one or more cells, such as cell 100, and a network node 112 providing one or more other cells, such as cell 102. Each cell may be, e.g., a macro cell, a micro cell, femto, or a pico cell, for example. The cell may define a coverage area or a service area of the corresponding access node.

[0041] The network node 110 may provide a UE 120 with wireless access to the communication network. In at least one example embodiment, the UE 120 may be one or more UEs. The wireless access may comprise DL communication from the network node to the UE 120 and UL communication from the UE 120 to the network node. Examples of uplink channels comprise physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) for transmitting control information and physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) for transmitting data towards the network. Examples of downlink channels comprise PDCCH for transmitting control information and physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for transmitting data towards the user equipment.

[0042] There may be a plurality of UEs 120, 122 in the system. Each of them may be served by the same or by different network nodes 110, 112. UE may be configured with dual connectivity (DC) , wherein the UE, e.g. UE 120, may be connected to multiple network nodes 110, 112. The UEs 120, 122 may communicate with each other, in case device-to-device (D2D) communication interface is established between them via a so-called sidelink (SL) . Such D2D communications may be referred to as machine-to-machine, peer-to-peer (P2P) communications, or vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) , for example.

[0043] In the case of multiple network nodes in the communication network, the network nodes may be connected to each other via an interface. LTE specifications call such an interface as X2 interface. An interface between an LTE node and a 5G node, or between two 5G nodes may be called Xn interface.

[0044] The network nodes 110 and 112 may be further connected via another interface to a core network 116 of the communication network. The LTE specifications specify the core network as an evolved packet core (EPC) , and the core network may comprise e.g. a mobility management entity (MME) and a gateway node. The MME may handle mobility of terminal devices in a tracking area encompassing a plurality of cells and handle signalling connections between the terminal devices and the core network. The gateway node may handle data routing in the core network and to / from the terminal devices. The 5G specifications specify the core network as a 5G core (5GC) . The 5G core may comprise e.g. an access and mobility management function (AMF) and a user plane function / gateway (UPF) and other functions. The AMF may handle termination of non-access stratum (NAS) signalling, NAS ciphering &integrity protection, registration management, connection management, mobility management, access authentication and authorization, security context management. The UPF node may support packet routing and forwarding, packet inspection and quality of service (QoS) handling, for example.

[0045] In at least one example embodiment, the UE 120 and / or the UE 122 may be capable of or configured to receive at least one synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel block (SSB) during a monitoring occasion of a PDCCH. In at least one example embodiment, the PDCCH may be a type0-PDCCH which may include or indicate scheduling information for a PDSCH transmission that includes a System Information Block Type 1 (SIB1) message. The PDCCHs described herein should be understood to include type0-PDCCHs. However, example embodiments are not limited thereto.

[0046] In cellular networks, System Information Block Type 1 (SIB1) is used to provide essential system information to UEs which allows UEs to be able to access networks and read paging messages. SIB1 also allows efficient network access, mobility management, and seamless communication procedures within the network.

[0047] In at least one example embodiment, SIB1 includes information about a cell identity which enables UEs to uniquely identify and select a serving cell for communication. In at least one example embodiment, SIB1 provides parameters related to cell re-selection criteria such as cell selection thresholds, cell barring, and other parameters that may influence UE behavior when determining whether to reselect a different cell for handover or cell change. SIB1 may also include information about a system bandwidth for both downlink and uplink transmissions within the cell. The bandwidth information may be used by UEs to configure their radio interfaces accordingly.

[0048] SIB1 may also include the Tracking Area Code (TAC) , identifying the tracking area to which the cell belongs, facilitating tracking area updates and mobility management procedures. SIB1 further provides information about radio frame timing, including the SFN and subframe timing, which are essential for synchronizing UEs with the cell's timing and ensuring accurate reception and transmission of data.

[0049] SIB1 may also include parameters related to paging procedures, such as the paging cycle and paging occasion configuration, which ensure timely delivery of paging messages to UEs in the cell. In at least one example embodiment, a UE may be configured to derive the paging frame and paging occasion which is to be used to monitor for the Paging message (through the P-RNTI) from the parameters related to paging procedures.

[0050] SIB1 may also include configuration parameters relevant to the initial access procedure for UEs, such as Random Access Channel (RACH) parameters. The RACH parameters may define RACH resources, preamble format, preamble transmission power, and other parameters necessary for UEs to access the network and establish connections. Additionally, SIB1 provides information about resources allocated for PUCCH, PUSCH, PDCCH, and PDSCH during RACH procedures, including resources for Message 2 (MSG2) , Message 3 (MSG3) , and Message 4 (MSG4) transmissions.

[0051] SIB1 reception procedures in 5G New Radio (NR) include at least synchronization, master information block (MIB) decoding, PDCCH monitoring, SIB1 detection, and decoding and processing of a received SIB1 transmission. During synchronization, a UE synchronizes with a downlink transmission from a base station. The base station discussed is a gNB as described above. In at least one example embodiment, the UE may synchronize with the downlink transmission from the gNB by using primary synchronization signals (PSS) and secondary synchronization signals (SSS) . This synchronization enables the UE to detect and decode the MIB transmitted on the Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) . From the detection of the PSS and the SSS, the gNB may be able to extract the Physical Cell ID through sequence mapping and hypothesis tests.

[0052] During MIB decoding the UE may extract essential system parameters from the MIB. The system parameters may include the system frame number (SFN) , subcarrier spacing, and PDCCH configuration. In at least one example embodiment, the PDCCH configuration information provided in the MIB may indicate resources allocated for Type0-PDCCH transmission, including the Control Resource Set Zero (CORESET0) configuration.

[0053] During PDCCH monitoring, the UE monitors the PDCCH to receive scheduling assignments for SIB1 reception. The PDCCH may also carry control information that may be used to allocate resources for system information transmission. Control information is also referred to herein as downlink control information.

[0054] During SIB1 detection, the UE may receive scheduling information such as a scheduling assignment for SIB1 from downlink control information of the PDCCH. In particular, the UE may monitor the PDSCH for the SIB1 transmission. The PDSCH may carry the SIB1 information which may include system information required for UE operation. For example, the SIB1 information may include information related to knowing which resources to monitor for paging and which resources to use to enable the UE to initiate connection to a network. In at least one example embodiment, the information about which resources to use to enable the UE to initiate connection to the network may include physical random access channel (PRACH) resources.

[0055] During decoding and processing, the UE may decode a received SIB1 transmission to extract system information elements including cell identity, tracking area code, system bandwidth, and scheduling information. The system information may be processed by the UE to synchronize the UE with the cell and configure UE operation accordingly.

[0056] FIG. 2 is a flow chart of a method 200 for determining repeating monitoring occasions for a PDCCH. The method 200 is described herein with reference to the UE 120. It should be understood that the UE 120 may include at least one memory and at least one processor. The at least one memory may store instructions and the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the system to perform the steps of the method 200. The method 200 is described with respect to the UE 120 but it should be understood that the processor of the UE may be performing the various actions described herein.

[0057] At S202 the UE 120 may monitor a first monitoring occasion for a PDCCH associated with at least one SBB index from a gNB. The first monitoring occasion may begin in a first monitoring occasion slot, n0, of an SFN.

[0058] At S204, after the first monitoring occasion, the UE 120 may determine a second monitoring occasion following the first monitoring occasion. The second monitoring occasion may be a repetition of the first monitoring occasion in at least one example embodiment. Further details of determining the second monitoring occasion are discussed below with respect to FIG. 3.

[0059] At S206, the UE 120 may monitor the PDCCH at the first monitoring occasion and the second monitoring occasion for control information. In at least one example embodiment, the control information of the PDCCH may be DCI. In at least one example embodiment, the UE 120 may also receive a physical cell identifier (PCI) or a scrambling parameter of a demodulated reference signal (DMRS) (PDCCH-DMRS-ScramblingID) for the PDCCH. In at least one example embodiment, the control information of the PDCCH, the PCI, and / or the scrambling parameter for DMRS for the PDCCH is the same for the first monitoring occasion and the second monitoring occasion. The control information may include at least one of frequency domain resource assignment (FDRA) information, time domain resource assignment (TDRA) information, virtual resource block (VRB) -to-physical resource block (PRB) mapping information, modulation and coding scheme (MCS) information, redundancy version information, system information indicator information, reserved bits information, or the PDCCH-DMRS-ScramblingID. In at least one example embodiment, the PDCCH-DMRS-ScramblingID may be a higher layer parameter and at least one of the PDCCH-DMRS-ScramblingID or the PCI may be used for scrambling the control information of the PDCCH. In at least one example embodiment, the control information, such as the DCI, of a PDCCH for a first monitoring occasion and / or a second monitoring occasion may be scrambled prior to modulation. Thus, at least one of the PDCCH-DMRS-ScramblingID or PCI must be the same for PDCCHs of repeating monitoring occasions to ensure that the control information for PDCCHs of repeating monitoring occasions is the same.

[0060] FIG. 3 is a flow chart illustrating the step S204 of FIG. 2. At S302, the UE may determine the slot of the first monitoring occasion, n0. In at least one example embodiment, the slot for the first monitoring occasion, n0, may be preconfigured or defined. The slot for the first monitoring occasion, n0, may be determined by equation 1: where O and μ are predefined constants, M is a multiplexing factor of a set of  multiplexing factors, i is an index of at least one of the SSBs, and is the number of slots of the SFN. SSBs may also be referred to herein as SS / PBCH blocks. O is a constant defining an offset from a first slot of the SFN. μ is a constant dependent on a subcarrier space. In at least one example embodiment, O and M are pre-defined or preconfigured constants that may be standardized, for example. Table 1 below shows a table showing pre-defined values for O and M. The index of the table below is a configuration index defining different configuration profiles. Table 1

[0061] In at least one example embodiment, μ and may be related as shown in table 2 below. Table 2

[0062] At S304, the UE 120 may determine the second monitoring occasion by determining a next available slot of the SFN following an offset from the first monitoring occasion. Thus, the second monitoring occasion may begin at a slot closest to the first monitoring occasion without overlapping the first monitoring occasion. In at least one example embodiment, the next available slot for the second monitoring occasion may be determined based on a number of SSBs and the second monitoring occasion may be associated with at least one SSB index. In at least one example embodiment, the second monitoring occasion may be associated with a same SSB index as the first monitoring occasion or with a different SSB index than the first monitoring occasion. Thus, the second monitoring occasion may be either an inter-SSB repetition or an intra-SSB repetition of a first monitoring occasion. In at least one example embodiment, information defining the at least one SSB index of the second monitoring occasion and at least one corresponding SSB index of the first monitoring occasion may be included in at least one of a spare bit of an MIB, a reserved bit in the control information of the PDCCH, or a codepoint in the control information of the PDCCH.

[0063] In at least one example embodiment, to avoid interference or power sharing, if the first monitoring occasion of the PDCCH includes monitoring occasions associated with different SSB indexes such as a first to fourth SSB index (SSB0, SSB1, SSB2, SSB3) , the second monitoring occasion may not overlap with any of the monitoring occasions associated with the first to fourth SSB indexes of the first monitoring occasion..

[0064] In at least one example embodiment, the next available slot of the SFN following an offset from the first monitoring occasion may be determined based on one or more predefined constants including a multiplexing factor of a set of multiplexing factors, a number of repeating monitoring occasions, a maximum number of SSBs, an index of at least one of the SSBs, and a number of slots within the SFN. In at least one example embodiment, the next available slot of the SFN may be determined based on equation 2: where O, μ, M, i, and are defined above and j∈ {1, …, K-1} where K is  the number of repeating monitoring occasions and Lmaxmaximum number of SSBs. In at least one example embodiment, Lmax may be based on a frequency of the network. Higher frequencies may include a larger number of SSBs.

[0065] In at least one example embodiment, the next available slot of the SFN following an offset from the first monitoring occasion may be defined with respect to the first monitoring occasion. For example, equation 3 may be used to determine the next available slot of the SFN. where n0 is defined by equation 1 shown above and Xj is defined by equation 4. where the variables are defined as described above.

[0066] In at least one example embodiment, the next available slot of the SFN following the offset from the first monitoring occasion may be defined with respect to the first monitoring occasion. For example, equation 5 may be used to determine the next available slot of the SFN for the first repeat monitoring occasion. n1=n0+1  (5)  where n0 is defined by equation 1 shown above. In at least one example embodiment,  a processor of the UE 120 may be configured to solve any of equations 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

[0067] In at least one example embodiment, a next available slot may be moved to another slot of the SFN in response to the next available slot of the SFN for the second monitoring occasion exceeding a maximum slot of the SFN. For example, based on the modulus operation in equations 2 and 3, the next available slot may be a slot with a lower number than the beginning slot for the first monitoring occasion. Additional details and examples of locations of the first monitoring occasion and the second monitoring occasion are described below with reference to FIG. 5.

[0068] FIG. 4 is a flow chart of a method 400 of sending a PDCCH, during monitoring occasions, from the network node 110 (e.g., a gNB) to the UE 120. The method 400 is described herein with reference to the network node 110. It should be understood that the network node 110 may include at least one memory and at least one processor. The at least one memory may store instructions and the at least one processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the system to perform the steps of the method 400. The method 400 is described with respect to the network node 110 but it should be understood that the processor of the network node 110 may be performing the various actions described herein.

[0069] At S402, the network node 110 may enable repeating monitoring occasions for a PDCCH to the UE 120.

[0070] At S404, the network node 110 may transmit a PDCCH associated with at least one SSB index during a first monitoring occasion. The first monitoring occasion may include at least one PDCCH associated with at least one SSB index as described above.

[0071] At S406, the network node 110 may transmit a PDCCH corresponding to the first monitoring occasion associated with a same SSB index during a second monitoring occasion following the first monitoring occasion. The PDCCH transmitted during the second monitoring occasion may be a repeat of the PDCCH transmitted during the first monitoring occasion. As described above, the UE 120 may be configured to determine the second monitoring occasion as a slot for the second monitoring occasion following the first monitoring occasion. In particular, the second monitoring occasion should follow an offset from the first monitoring occasion such that the second monitoring occasion does not overlap with the first monitoring occasion. Although described herein with respect to a first monitoring occasion and a second monitoring occasion, it should be understood that the systems and methods described herein are applicable to a monitoring occasion and a next monitoring occasion as there may be more than one repetition of a monitoring occasion.

[0072] In at least one example embodiment, the network node 110 may also be configured to transmit downlink control information. The downlink control information may be as described above.

[0073] FIG. 5 is an example diagram 500 of monitoring occasions derived from the equations described above. The index column defines a particular configuration that may be defined in an MIB. The O and M columns correspond to pre-defined constants that may be standardized, for example. There are 10 slots, numbered 0 to 9, shown across the top row of the diagram 500. The 10 slots are the slots of the SFN that are available for the monitoring occasions received by the UE 120 from the network node 110. The diagram 500 includes configurations in NTN with frequencies below 3GHz with PDSCH or PDCCH subcarrier spacing (SCS) of 15GHz. Thus, a maximum number of SSBs, Lmaxthe configurations of the diagram 500 is 4.

[0074] As shown in the first configuration, index=0, a first monitoring occasion begins at slot 0 because the value of O is zero for the first configuration. The first monitoring occasion includes four SSBs, SSB0, SSB1, SSB2, and SSB3. SSB0 corresponds to the number 0 of SSB index shown in each of the rows of the diagram 500, SSB1 corresponds to the number 1 of SSB index shown in each of the rows of the diagram 500, SSB2 corresponds to the number 2 of SSB index shown in each of the rows of the diagram 500, and SSB3 corresponds to the number 3 of SSB index shown in each of the rows of the diagram 500. SSB0 is located in slot 0, SSB1 is located in slot 1, SSB 2 is located in slot 2, and SSB 3 is located in slot 3. Slot 0 is determined from equation 1 for configuration 1. For example a location of a first monitoring occasion for SSB0 is:  The location of a second monitoring occasion for SSB0 as determined by equation 2 is:  Similarly, the location of the second monitoring occasion for SSB0 as determined by equations 3 and 4 is n1=(0+X1) mod 10,  Thus, X1 = 4 and therefore, n1=4.

[0075] Thus, as shown by the diagram 500, the second monitoring occasion of SSB0 begins at slot 4, immediately following the first monitoring occasion for SSB3. Thus, the repetition of SSB0 does not overlap with the any of the first monitoring occasions for SSB0, SSB1, SSB2, or SSB3.

[0076] Locations of the slots for the PDCCH associated with SSB0, SSB1, SSB2, and SSB3 for the first monitoring occasions and the second monitoring occasions of any of the configurations of the diagram 500 can be determined based on the equations as described above. Thus, monitoring occasions may be determined for any multiplexing factor, M, as shown in the diagram 500.

[0077] In at least one example embodiment, for the values of the multiplexing factor, M, shown in the diagram 500, a corresponding X may be defined. For example, table 3 below illustrates an example mapping of M to X for the configurations shown in the diagram 500. Thus, given a known location of the first monitoring occasion, a location of a next monitoring occasion may be determined by adding the slot for the first monitoring occasion to the value of X shown below based on the defined multiplexing factor M for a given configuration. Table 3

[0078] In at least one example embodiment, for the values of the multiplexingfactor, M, shown in the diagram 500, a corresponding X may be defined. For example,X may be predefined as 1 regardless of the value of M.

[0079] FIG. 6 is a signal flow diagram 600 of communication between the UE 120and the network node 110 for determining repeating monitoring occasions for a PDCCH.At 602, the UE 120 may perform an initial search to prepare and receive one or moreSSBs and at 604, the network node 110 may enable PDCCH repetition. In at least oneexample embodiment, the network node 110 may specifically enable type0-PDCCHrepetition.

[0080] After the initial configurations of the UE 120 and the network node 110, thenetwork node 110 may sent a first SSB to the UE 120 at 606, may send a second SSBto the UE 120 at 608, may send a third SSB to the UE 120 at 610, and may send a fourthSSB to the UE 120 at 612. The first SSB may include a first beam footprint such asbeam footprint #0, the second SSB may include a second beam footprint such as beamfootprint #1, the third SSB may include a third beam footprint such as beam footprint#2, and the fourth SSB may include a fourth beam footprint such as beam footprint #4.

[0081] At 614, the UE 120 may decode one or more of the SSBs sent by the networknode 110. The UE 120 may determine a best beam footprint, for instance, as an SSBwith a highest power or Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio澳澻SINR) as received bythe UE 120. If the UE 120 only receives one SSB, that SSB is chosen as the best beamfootprint. As shown in FIG. 6, the UE 120 determines that the third SSB, the SSB withfootprint #2, is the best SSB. At 614, the UE 120 may additionally receive configuration information such as CORESET0 CSS and repetition enabling information via the MIB. Here, the MIB may define the configuration as index 3 according to parameter searchSpaceZero in pdcch-ConfigSIB1 which defines O as 2 and M as 0.5. The information for O and M may be pre-defined and / or standardized. An example of this information is also shown in FIG. 5.

[0082] At 616, the UE may determine the monitoring occasions for the PDCCH associated with the SSB with the beam footprint #2. Using the equations described above, the first monitoring occasion of the SSB with the beam footprint #2 is located at slot 3 and the second monitoring occasion of the SSB with the beam footprint #2 is located at slot 5.

[0083] At 618, the network node 110 may ensure that a payload including the DCI for repetitions is the same as the payload including the DCI of the first monitoring occasion for the SSBs. The DCI may be conveyed as payload information and may be defined as described above.

[0084] At 620, the network node 110 may send the PDCCH associated with the SSB with beam footprint #0 during the corresponding second monitoring occasion. At 622, the network node 110 may send PDSCH information including SIB1 corresponding to the SSB with beam footprint #0. At 624, the network node 110 may send the PDCCH associated with the SSB with beam footprint #1 during the corresponding second monitoring occasion. At 626, the network node 110 may send PDSCH information including SIB1 corresponding to the SSB with beam footprint #1. At 628, the network node 110 may send the PDCCH associated with the SSB with beam footprint #2 during the corresponding second monitoring occasion. At 630, the network node 110 may send PDSCH information including SIB1 corresponding to the SSB with beam footprint #2.

[0085] At 632, the UE 120 may blindly detect and combine the PDCCH of CORESET0 CSS of slot 3 and slot 5. In at least one example embodiment, blind detection may be a PDCCH decode method performed by the UE 120.

[0086] At 634, the UE 120 receives the PDSCH conveying SIB1 according to the downlink control information from the network node 110.

[0087] Finally, at 636, the network node 110 may send the PDCCH associated with the SSB with beam footprint #3 during the corresponding second monitoring occasion and at 638, the network node 110 may send PDSCH information including SIB1 corresponding to the SSB with beam footprint #3. In at least one example embodiment, a third repetition may be performed based on the number of slots of the SFN. Here, a third monitoring occasion of the SSB with beam footprint #2 may be located at slot 7 and a fourth monitoring occasion of the SSB with beam footprint #2 may be located at slot 9.

[0088] FIG. 7 is a block diagram of a system 700 according to an example embodiment. The system 700 may include a processor 702, a memory 704 connected to the processor 702, and various communication interfaces 706 connected to the processor 702. The various communication interfaces 706 may constitute a transceiver for transmitting / receiving data from / to other system elements. The system 700 may implement the systems and methods described herein.

[0089] As will be appreciated, depending on the implementation of the system 700, the system 700 may include many more components than those shown in FIG. 7. However, it is not necessary that all of these generally conventional components be shown in order to disclose the illustrative example embodiment. For example purposes, the example embodiment shown in FIG. 7 will be discussed with regard to the processor 702. However, it should be understood that the system 700 shown in FIG. 7 may include one or more processors or other processing circuitry, such as one or more Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) .

[0090] The memory 704 may be a computer readable storage medium that generally includes a random access memory (RAM) , read only memory (ROM) , and / or a permanent mass storage device, such as a disk drive. The memory 704 may also store an operating system and any other routines / modules / applications for providing the functionalities of the system 700 to be executed by the processor 702. These software components may also be loaded from a separate computer readable storage medium into the memory 704 using a drive mechanism (not shown) . Such separate computer readable storage medium may include a disc, tape, DVD / CD-ROM drive, memory card, or other like computer readable storage medium (not shown) . In some example embodiments, software components may be loaded into the memory 704 via one of the various communication interfaces 706, rather than via a computer readable storage medium.

[0091] The processor 702 or other processing circuitry may be configured to carry out instructions of a computer program by performing the arithmetical, logical, and input / output operations of the system. Instructions may be provided to the processor 702 by the memory 704.

[0092] The various communication interfaces 706 may be wired and may include components that interface the processor 702 with the other input / output components. As will be understood, the various communication interfaces 706 and programs stored in the memory 704 to set forth the special purpose functionalities of the system 700 will vary depending on the implementation of the network node. In at least one example embodiment, the various communication interfaces 706 may provide the system 700 with communication capabilities. For example, the various communication interfaces 706 may include a receiver configured to receive information in accordance with at least one cellular or non-cellular standard and / or a transmitter configured to transmit information in accordance with at least one cellular or non-cellular standard. The receiver may comprise more than one receiver. The transmitter may comprise more than one transmitter. In at least one example embodiment, the various communication interfaces 706 may include a transceiver configured to receive and transmit information in accordance with at least one cellular or non-cellular standard. The transceiver may comprise more than one transceiver.

[0093] The various communication interfaces 706 may also include one or more user input devices (e.g., a keyboard, a keypad, a mouse, or the like) and user output devices (e.g., a display, a speaker, or the like) .

[0094] In at least one example embodiment, the system 700 may be included in a terminal device, such as the UE 120 or the UE 122 of Fig. 1. For example, the system may be included in a terminal device as a chipset configured to control the terminal device.

[0095] In another example embodiment, the system 700 may be a network node, e.g. the network node 110 or the network node 112 of Fig. 1. In another embodiment, the system 700 is comprised in such a network node, e.g. as a chipset configured to control the network node.

[0096] The system 700 may comprise one or more entities of any of protocol layers, such as a MAC entity, an RRC entity, an RLC entity, a PDCP entity or a PHY entity. In some embodiments, the entity is configured to perform at least a method in accordance with any one or more of the example embodiments described.

[0097] In an embodiment, at least some of the processes described herein may be carried out by an apparatus comprising means for carrying out at least some of the described processes. Means for performing method steps as disclosed herein may include software and / or hardware components of the system 700. For example, the processor 702, the memory 704, and the computer program code form means for carrying out the method or methods as disclosed herein, and any of the embodiments thereof. At least one other example embodiment may include a computer program including program segments or instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a system or an apparatus, cause the system or the apparatus to perform the method or methods disclosed herein.

[0098] As used herein the term “means” is to be construed in singular form, i.e. referring to a single element, or in plural form, i.e. referring to a combination of single elements. Therefore, terminology “means for [performing A, B, C] ” , is to be interpreted to cover an apparatus in which there is only one means for performing A, B and C, or where there are separate means for performing A, B and C, or partially or fully overlapping means for performing A, B, C. Further, terminology “means for performing A, means for performing B, means for performing C” is to be interpreted to cover an apparatus in which there is only one means for performing A, B and C, or where there are separate means for performing A, B and C, or partially or fully overlapping means for performing A, B, C.

[0189] As discussed herein, the terminology “one or more” and “at least one” may be used interchangeably. Although the specification may refer to “an” , “one” , or “some” embodiment (s) in several locations of the text, this does not necessarily mean that each reference is made to the same embodiment (s) , or that a particular feature only applies to a single embodiment. Single features of different embodiments may also be combined to provide other embodiments. Further, when a particular feature, structure, or characteristic is described in connection of an embodiment, it is within the knowledge of one skilled in the art to apply such feature, structure, or characteristic in connection with other embodiments whether or not explicitly described.

[0190] For the purposes of the present disclosure, the phrases “at least one of A or B”, “at least one of A and B” , and “A and / or B” means (A) , (B) , or (A and B) . For the purposes of the present disclosure, the phrase “A, B, and / or C” means (A) , (B) , (C) , (Aand B) , (A and C) , (B and C) , or (A, B, and C) .

[0191] Although the terms first, second, etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be termed a second element, and similarly, a second element could be termed a first element, without departing from the scope of this disclosure. As used herein, the term “and / or, ” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the associated listed items. Similarly, the term “or” includes both its conjunctive and disjunctive meanings.

[0192] When an element is referred to as being “connected, ” or “coupled, ” to another element, it can be directly connected or coupled to the other element or intervening elements may be present. By contrast, when an element is referred to as being “directly connected, ” or “directly coupled, ” to another element, there are no intervening elements present. Other words used to describe a physical relationship between elements should be interpreted in a like fashion (e.g., “between, ” versus “directly between, ” “adjacent, ” versus “directly adjacent, ” etc. ) .

[0193] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting. As used herein, the singular forms “a,” “an, ” and “the, ” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises, ” “comprising, ” “includes, ” and / or “including, ” when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps, operations, elements, and / or components, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, operations, elements, components, and / or groups thereof.

[0194] It should also be noted that in some alternative implementations, the functions / acts noted may occur out of the order noted in the figures. For example, figures shown in succession may in fact be executed substantially concurrently or may sometimes be executed in the reverse order, depending upon the functionality / acts involved.

[0195] Specific details are provided in the preceding description to provide a thorough understanding of example embodiments. However, it will be understood by one of ordinary skill in the art that example embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. For example, systems may be shown in block diagrams so as not to obscure the example embodiments in unnecessary detail. In other instances, well-known processes, structures, and techniques may be shown without unnecessary detail in order to avoid obscuring example embodiments.

[0196] As discussed herein, illustrative embodiments have been described with reference to acts and symbolic representations of operations (e.g., in the form of flow charts, flow diagrams, data flow diagrams, structure diagrams, block diagrams, etc. ) that may be implemented as program modules or functional processes include routines, programs, objects, components, data structures, etc., that perform particular tasks or implement particular abstract data types and may be implemented using existing hardware at, for example, existing user equipment or other network elements and / or hardware. Such existing hardware may be processing or control circuitry such as, but not limited to, one or more processors, one or more Central Processing Units (CPUs) , one or more controllers, one or more arithmetic logic units (ALUs) , one or more digital signal processors (DSPs) , one or more microcomputers, one or more field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , one or more System-on-Chips (SoCs) , one or more programmable logic units (PLUs) , one or more microprocessors, one or more Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) , or any other device or devices capable of responding to and executing instructions in a defined manner.

[0197] Although a flow chart may describe the operations as a sequential process, many of the operations may be performed in parallel, concurrently, or simultaneously. In addition, the order of the operations may be re-arranged. A process may be terminated when its operations are completed, but may also have additional steps not included in the figure. A process may correspond to a method, function, procedure, subroutine, subprogram, etc. When a process corresponds to a function, its termination may correspond to a return of the function to the calling function or the main function.
