[0060] FIG. 7 illustrates a wireless communication method 700 performed by a network according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The wireless communication method 700 performed by the network is configured to implement some embodiments of the disclosure. Some embodiments of the disclosure may be implemented into the wireless communication method 700 performed by the network using any suitably configured hardware and / or software. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method 700 performed by the network includes: an operation 702, receiving a computing / computing policy (CP) capability indication and / or a CP provisioning request indication from a user equipment (UE) , wherein the computing / CP capability indication is in a UE policy container, the CP provisioning request indication is in a registration request message, and a computing / CP in the UE policy container is used to establish a user plane connection. Optionally, the user plane connection may be used for communicating with a computing server. This can solve issues in the prior art and other issues. Further, the proposed some embodiments can provide a solution for enabling computing policy (CP) provisioning from a 6G core network to a UE and / or improve network performance. The network may be a sixth-generation (6G) network.

[0061] In some embodiments, if a computing / CP capability is in the registration request message and the computing / CP is used based on a subscription information, a first network entity of the network selects a second network entity of the network supporting CP provisioning, and a UE policy association with the second network entity of the network for CP delivery is established by the first network entity. Optionally, the second network entity can be a policy control function (PCF) . In some embodiments, if a computing / CP capability is supported by the UE and there is no valid CP, the UE policy container is included in the UE with a CP provisioning request indication in the registration request message during a registration procedure. In some embodiments, the CP provisioning request indication in the UE policy container is included in the UE, causing a second network entity of the network to determine whether to provision the computing / CP to the UE. In some embodiments, a UE triggered policy provisioning procedure to a second network entity of the network is performed when the computing / CP is invalid. In some embodiments, the computing / CP capability indication is included in a UE mobility management (MM) core network capability. In some embodiments, the CP provisioning request indication in the UE policy container allows a second network entity of the network to determine to provision the computing / CP via the UE policy container to the UE through a UE configuration update procedure. In some embodiments, the UE policy container comprises a UE policy part, the UE policy part comprises a UE policy part type field, a spare field, and UE policy part contents, the UE policy part type field comprises an information element (IE) used to indicate the computing / CP in the UE policy part type field, and the UE policy part contents correspond to the computing / CP in the UE policy part type field; or the spare field comprises an IE indicating the computing / CP in the spare field, and the UE policy part contents correspond to the computing / CP in the spare field.

[0062] In some embodiments, the CP is defined as a standalone CP and includes one or more CP rules. In some embodiments, a structure of one or more CP rules in the CP includes at least one of the following: a rule precedence used to determine an order in which the one or more CP rules are enforced in the UE; a traffic descriptor used to define traffic descriptor for the one or more CP rules; one or more application descriptors consisting of an operating system identifier (OSId) and one or more operating system application identifiers (OSAppIds) ; one or more IP descriptors including a destination IP 3-tuple, which includes an IP address or IPv6 network prefix, a port number, and a protocol ID;one or more domain descriptors indicating one or more fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) or a regular expression used as a domain name matching criterion; one or more non-IP descriptors providing destination information for non-IP traffic; a data network name (DNN) matched against a DNN information provided by an application on the UE; one or more connection capabilities matched against a network connection information provided by a UE application, including specific capabilities or traffic categories; a list of route selection descriptors; or a validity time used to define a valid time for one or more CP rules.

[0063] In some embodiments, a structure of the route selection descriptors includes at least one of the following: a route selection descriptor precedence used to determine an order in which the route selection descriptors are to be applied; one or more route selection components; an SSC mode selection used to indicate one single value of SSC mode; a network slice selection used to indicate either a single value or a list of values of S-NSSAIs; a DNN selection used to indicate either a single value or a list of values of DNNs; a PDU session type selection used to indicate one single value of PDU session type; route selection validation criteria used to define route validation criteria components; a time window; location criteria; or a validity time used to define a valid time for the route selection descriptors. In some embodiments, the CP is defined as an enhance UE route selection policy (URSP) rule and includes one or more URSP rules. In some embodiments, a structure of the one or more URSP rules includes at least one of the following: an indication for supporting computing used to indicate the one or more URSP rules is used for supporting computing; a list of route selection descriptors; or a validity time used to define a valid time for one or more URSP rules. In some embodiments, a structure of the route selection descriptors includes a validity time used to define a valid time for the route selection descriptors. In some embodiments, when an application in the UE requests to use an edge computing policy, one or more CP rules in the CP is evaluated. In some embodiments, if no matched CP rules, one or more URSP rules and a UE local configuration are evaluated. In some embodiments, the CP comprises one or more connection capabilities, the one or more connection capabilities comprise at least one value including computing, edge computing, or coordinated computing to indicate one or more requested connection capabilities.

[0064] In the above some embodiments, the CP provisioning mechanism enables a 6G core network to dynamically provision computing policies to UE based on UE capability indications, subscription information, and PCF. The UE can include a CP provisioning request indication in a registration request message, triggering the PCF to determine and deliver computing policies. The CP is defined as a standalone policy or an enhanced URSP, incorporating various rules such as traffic descriptors, application descriptors, IP descriptors, and domain descriptors. The route selection descriptors provide further control over network selection, session types, and validation criteria. If no matching CP rules are found, the UE evaluates URSP rules and local configurations to optimize computing-aware networking. This solution addresses prior limitations by providing a dynamic, policy-driven approach to enhance computing resource management and network performance in 6G systems. Some embodiments provide a dynamic and flexible solution for computing policy provisioning in 6G networks, ensuring efficient resource management, optimized service delivery, and enhanced network performance through policy-based computing and route selection mechanisms.

[0065] Examples:

[0066] In some examples, a new type of UE policy, referred to as a computing policy (CP) , is proposed to facilitate computing policy provisioning in 6G systems. The CP is designed to enable a UE to establish a user plane connection when required for a service. Optionally, the user plane connection may be used for communicating with a computing server. In details, when a new application requests a user plane connection with computing support, the UE can check CP rules, optionally based on priority, to find a matching rule and use it to establish the connection, such as a PDU session.

[0067] In some examples, it is proposed to adopt a mechanism similar to a PCF-based UE policy provisioning mechanism defined in TS 23.503 for provisioning a CP to a UE. This approach ensures a standardized and efficient method for delivering CP rules, enabling the UE to dynamically receive and apply computing policies based on network conditions, service requirements, and subscription information.

[0068] In some examples, to illustrate CP provisioning to the UE in a 6G system, a similar mechanism to PCF-based service authorization and provisioning in the 5G system can be applied. The registration procedures (TS 23.502, clause 4.2.2.2) , UE policy association establishment (TS 23.502, clause 4.16.11) , and UE policy association modification (TS 23.502, clause 4.16.12) can serve as the foundation, with specific additions. If the UE indicates its computing or computing policy capability in the registration request and is authorized based on subscription information from UDM, the AMF selects a PCF that supports CP provisioning and establishes a UE policy association with the PCF for CP delivery. If the UE supports CP capability but does not have a valid CP, it includes a CP provisioning request indication in the UE policy container within the registration request message. Upon receiving this indication, the PCF determines whether to provision the CP to the UE as specified in TS 23.503, clause 6.1.2.2.2, and provides the CP using the UE configuration update procedure for transparent UE policy delivery, as defined in TS 23.502, clause 4.2.4.3.

[0069] FIG. 8A, FIG. 8B, FIG. 8C, FIG. 8D, FIG. 8E, FIG. 8F, and FIG. 8G illustrate that, in some examples, to enable the PCF to indicate that a UE policy in the policy section is for computing policy (CP) , an information element (IE) indicating CP is included in the "UE policy section management list" (as shown in the table below) . This IE is conveyed within the UE policy container in the downlink (DL) UE configuration update message or the DL NAS transport message. Specifically, the new IE can be added in either the "UE policy part type" field or the "Spare" field, as shown in the structure below in FIG. 8A, FIG. 8B, FIG. 8C, FIG. 8D, FIG. 8E, FIG. 8F, and FIG. 8G.

[0070] There are two options for including an IE indicating CP in the UE policy section management list: Option 1 adds the IE in the UE policy part type, indicating that the UE policy part contents in the table are for CP, while Option 2 adds the IE in the Spare field, also signifying that the UE policy part content is for CP. When the UE determines that the CP is invalid (e.g., due to outdated, missing, or invalid policies / parameters) , it may trigger a policy provisioning procedure to the PCF, following similar procedures specified in clause 6.2.4 of TS 23.304 and TS 23.287. The PCF may also update the CP to the UE under certain conditions, such as when there is a subscription change in the list of PLMNs where the UE is authorized for 6G operations, which is handled via the UE Policy Association Modification procedure as defined in TS 23.502, clause 4.16.12.2. Additionally, the PCF updates the CP when there is a change in service-specific parameters, as described in TS 23.502, clause 4.15.6.7. If the UE is roaming, any subscription changes that impact service authorization parameters are transferred to the UE by the home PCF (H-PCF) via the visited PCF (V-PCF) .

[0071] The Registration procedure specified in TS 23.502 clause 4.2.2.2.2 needs to be enhanced. FIG. 9 illustrates a registration procedure according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 9 illustrates that, in some examples, the registration procedure includes at least one of the following:

[0072] A UE sends an access network (AN) message to the (R) AN, which contains various parameters, including the registration request, security parameters, requested network slices, UE radio capability updates, PDU session details, and UE policy container information. The UE policy container may include elements such as policy section indicators (PSIs) , support for ANDSP, operating system identifiers, URSP provisioning support, and the CP provisioning request indication, as defined in TS 23.503.

[0073] Additionally, the UE MM core network capability includes a computing / CP capability indication to signal its ability to support computing policy provisioning.

[0074] If required, the new AMF performs a UE policy association establishment as specified in TS 23.502, clause 4.16.11, except in cases of emergency registration, where this step is skipped. In this process, the AMF sends a Npcf_UEPolicyControl Create Request to the PCF, and the PCF responds with a Npcf_UEPolicyControl Create Response. Subsequently, the PCF triggers the UE configuration update procedure, as defined in TS 23.502, clause 4.2.4.3, to update the UE policy container. After registration, based on the computing / computing policy capability indication and the computing / CP allowed indication obtained from UDM subscription information, the AMF discovers and selects a PCF that supports CP provisioning and establishes a UE policy association with the selected PCF.

[0075] In details, during the registration procedure, the UE sends an access network (AN) message to the (R) AN, which includes various parameters necessary for network authentication and policy enforcement. The registration request contains essential identifiers such as the registration type, SUCI, 5G-GUTI, or PEI, along with additional elements like the last visited TAI (if available) and security parameters. The message may also include requested network slice selection assistance information (NSSAI) , mapping of requested NSSAI, default configured NSSAI indication, UE radio capability updates, UE MM core network capability, PDU session status, and a list of PDU sessions to be activated. Furthermore, it incorporates details related to follow-on requests, MICO indications, requested active time, and various DRX parameters for E-UTRA, NR, and NB-IoT, as well as extended idle mode DRX parameters. Other parameters include LADN DNN (s) or an indicator for requesting LADN information, NAS message containers, support for enhanced coverage restrictions, preferred network behavior, UE paging probability information, and paging subgrouping support indications. The UE policy container, a crucial component, consists of a list of PSIs, an indication of UE support for ANDSP, the operating system identifier, an indication of URSP provisioning support in EPS, the UE capability to report URSP rule enforcement to the network, the capability to support VPLMN-specific URSP rules, and the CP provisioning request indication. Additionally, the message may contain UE radio capability ID, release request indication, paging restriction information, PEI, PLMN with disaster conditions, requested periodic update time, unavailability period duration, start of unavailability period, and unavailability type, ensuring comprehensive registration data exchange between the UE and the (R) AN. In some examples, the UE policy container and its usage is defined in TS 23.503

[0020] . In some examples, in the UE MM core network capability, the computing / CP Capability indication is included.

[0076] After the registration procedure, the new AMF may optionally perform a UE policy association establishment, as defined in TS 23.502, clause 4.16.11, except in the case of emergency registration, where this step is skipped. As part of this process, the AMF sends a Npcf_UEPolicyControl Create Request to the PCF, and in response, the PCF sends a Npcf_UEPolicyControl Create Response back to the AMF. Following this, the PCF triggers the UE configuration update procedure, as specified in TS 23.502, clause 4.2.4.3, to ensure the UE policy container is updated accordingly. After completing the registration, based on the computing / computing policy capability indication and computing / CP allowed indication obtained from the subscription information received from the UDM, the AMF identifies and selects a PCF that supports CP provisioning and subsequently establishes a UE policy association with the selected PCF.

[0077] Based on the CP provisioning request indication in the UE Policy Container, the PCF determines to provision the CP via UE policy container to UE via UE configuration update procedure (clause 4.2.4.3 of TS 23.502) . FIG. 10 illustrates a UE configuration update procedure for transparent UE policy delivery according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 10 illustrates that, in some examples, the UE configuration update procedure for transparent UE policy delivery includes at least one of the following:

[0078] Operation 0: In some examples, the PCF decides to update the UE policy based on specific triggering conditions, such as initial registration, registration with 5GS when the UE moves from EPS to 5GS, or when an update to the UE policy is required. In the case of initial registration or EPS to 5GS migration, the PCF compares the list of PSIs included in the UE policy information within the Npcf_UEPolicyControl_Create request and determines, as specified in TS 23.503, clause 6.1.2.2.2, whether the UE policy information needs to be updated and sent to the UE via the AMF using a DL NAS TRANSPORT message. For network-triggered UE policy updates-such as UE location changes or subscribed S-NSSAI changes, as described in TS 23.503, clause 6.1.2.2.2, the PCF checks the latest list of PSIs to determine which UE policies can be sent to the UE. Additionally, the PCF verifies whether the size of the resulting UE policy information exceeds a predefined limit. If the size remains within the limit, the UE policy information is included in a single Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer service operation. If the size exceeds the limit, the PCF splits the UE policy information into smaller, logically independent policy updates, ensuring that each remains within the predefined limit. Each segmented UE policy information is then sent separately through Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer service operations. It is important to note that NAS messages from the AMF to the UE do not exceed the maximum size limit allowed in NG-RAN (PDCP layer) , making the PCF's predefined size limit aligned with this constraint. The mechanism used to split UE policy information is further detailed in TS 29.507.

[0079] Operation 0a: In some examples, if the PCF has not previously subscribed to receive notifications from the AMF regarding the UE's response to an update of UE policy information, it initiates a subscription request to the AMF to be notified of such updates. This ensures that the PCF can track whether the UE has successfully received and applied the updated UE policy information, enabling more efficient policy management and network optimization.

[0080] Operation 1: In some examples, the PCF invokes the Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer service operation provided by the AMF, including the SUPI and the UE policy container in the message. This ensures that the updated UE policy information is properly transferred to the UE through the AMF, facilitating seamless policy enforcement and network management.

[0081] Operation 2: In some examples, if the UE is registered and reachable by the AMF over either 3GPP access or non-3GPP access, the AMF transparently transfers the UE policy container to the UE via the registered and reachable access. If the UE is registered in both 3GPP and non-3GPP accesses, is reachable on both, and is served by the same AMF, the AMF selects one of the accesses based on its local policy to transfer the UE policy container. However, if the UE is not reachable over both 3GPP and non-3GPP access, the AMF reports to the PCF that the UE policy container could not be delivered using the Namf_Communication_N1N2TransferFailureNotification procedure, as described in TS 23.502, clause 4.2.3.3, step 5. If the AMF decides to transfer the UE policy container via 3GPP access-for instance, when the UE is only registered and reachable in 3GPP access, or when the UE is registered in both accesses and the AMF's local policy dictates using 3GPP access-and if the UE is in CM-IDLE but reachable, the AMF initiates the paging procedure by sending a paging message, as described in TS 23.502, clause 4.2.3.3, step 4b of the Network Triggered Service Request. Upon receiving the paging request, the UE initiates the UE Triggered Service Request procedure, as specified in TS 23.502, clause 4.2.3.2.

[0082] Operation 3: In some examples, if the UE is in CM-CONNECTED state over either 3GPP access or non-3GPP access, the AMF transparently transfers the UE policy container (UE policy information) received from the PCF to the UE. The UE policy container includes a list of policy sections, as described in TS 23.503

[0020] , ensuring that all relevant policy rules are properly conveyed. Additionally, the computing policy (CP) is included within the UE policy container, enabling the UE to apply the received computing policies for optimized service and network performance.

[0083] Operation 4: In some examples, the UE updates the UE policy provided by the PCF and sends the update result to the AMF, ensuring that the applied policy changes are acknowledged and properly managed within the network.

[0084] Operation 5: In some examples, the AMF forwards the UE's response to the PCF using the Namf_Communication_N1MessageNotify service. The PCF maintains the latest list of PSIs delivered to the UE and updates this list in the UDR by invoking the Nudr_DM_Update service operation with parameters including SUPI, policy data, policy set entry, and updated PSI data. If the PCF is notified by the AMF about a UE policy delivery failure, it may initiate the UE policy association modification procedure to provide a new trigger, "Connectivity state changes, " in the Policy Control Request Trigger of the UE policy association, as defined in TS 23.502, clause 4.16.12.2. Additionally, when the PCF is notified that the UE connectivity state has changed to CONNECTED, it may reinitiate the UE configuration update procedure for transparent UE policy delivery, following the steps outlined in step 1. For backward compatibility, the PCF may subscribe to the "Connectivity state changes (IDLE or CONNECTED) " event in Release 15 AMF, as defined in TS 23.502, clause 5.2.2.3.

[0085] In some examples, in a 6G system, the computing policy (CP) can be implemented as a standalone CP, which operates independently of other UE policies. This approach allows the CP to be specifically tailored for computing resource management, ensuring efficient policy enforcement without dependency on other network policies. The standalone CP is defined with specific rules and parameters that govern how the UE establishes and manages computing-aware networking, optimizing service delivery and resource allocation in a 6G environment.

[0086] The CP is as defined as following such as Table 1, Table 2, and Table3.

[0087] Table 1: Computing Policy.

[0088] The structure of the CP rules is described in Table 2 and Table 3. In some examples, the Connection Capabilities can include one or more values such as 'Computing' , 'Edge Computing' , 'Coordinated Computing' , etc., to indicate one or more requested connection capabilities for the application. More than one Connection Capabilities value can be provided.

[0089] Table 2: Computing Policy Rule.

[0090] Table 3: Route Selection Descriptor.

[0091] In a 6G system, an alternative approach to computing policy (CP) provisioning is to enhance the UE Route Selection Policy (URSP) rule, integrating CP directly into the URSP framework. This method allows the CP to be managed alongside existing URSP rules, enabling a more dynamic and flexible policy application based on network conditions, application requirements, and computing resource availability. By extending URSP rules, the CP can leverage established route selection mechanisms, ensuring seamless computing-aware connectivity and efficient traffic steering for computing-based services.

[0092] The CP is as defined as following such as Table 4, Table 5, and Table 6.

[0093] Table 4: UE Route Selection Policy.

[0094] The structure of the URSP rules is described in Table 5. In some examples, the Connection Capabilities can include one or more values such as 'Computing' , 'Edge Computing' , 'Coordinated Computing' , etc., to indicate one or more requested connection capabilities for the application. More than one Connection Capabilities value can be provided.

[0095] Table 5: UE Route Selection Policy Rule.

[0096] Table 6: Route Selection Descriptor.

[0097] The CP usage at the UE follows a structured evaluation process to ensure efficient computing policy enforcement. There is no match-all CP rules, preventing broad or ambiguous policy applications. When an application in the UE requests to use an edge computing policy, the UE first evaluates the CP rules to determine if a relevant policy exists. If no matching CP rules are found, the UE then proceeds to evaluate URSP rules and the UE local configuration, ensuring that the most appropriate network and computing resources are selected for the application.

[0098] In some examples, in the 6G system, the UE includes the computing / CP capability indication in the UE policy container and / or the CP request indication in the registration request message. Based on the computing / CP capability indication and computing / CP authorization information retrieved from the UDM, the AMF discovers and selects a PCF that supports CP provisioning and forwards the UE policy container to the selected PCF. The computing / CP capability indication is included in the UE MM core network capability, ensuring seamless policy management. The PCF then determines whether to provide the CP to the UE via the UE policy container, enabling the UE to utilize computing resources in the 6G system based on the received CP. The CP is a new policy containing specific information elements as defined in Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3, while also enhancing URSP as described in Table 4, Table 5, and Table 6. This solution effectively addresses the selection of the PCF supporting CP and the provisioning of CP to the UE, authorizing the UE to enable edge computing operations in the 6G system. By implementing this solution, network operators gain the ability to control and configure UE edge computing capabilities via the UE policy, ensuring optimized computing-aware networking and resource allocation.
