Description

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATIONFIELDS

[0001] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for monitoring downlink control information (DCI) .BACKGROUND

[0002] Power saving at both user equipment (UE) side and network (NW) side is very important in further communication system design. At UE side, power saving could be achieved by skipping some working tasks where the skipping of the working tasks is indicated by network. It is tradeoff between UE power saving and NW efficiency, i.e., NW needs to indicate more information for the purpose of UE power saving where such indication could reduce the NW efficiency and increase the power assumption at NW side. Thus, it needs to balance the power saving at NW side and UE side. Dedicated indication and configuration for each UE may not always be effective. Shared / Common resource and / or blind detection is needed sometimes to balance the power saving at UE side and NW side and balance the power saving and spectrum efficiency.SUMMARY

[0051] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0052] Reference is made to FIG. 2, which illustrates a signaling flow 200 of DCI monitoring in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 200 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0053] The network device 120 transmits (2010) , to the terminal device 110, monitoring information indicating DCI on one or more search spaces. The terminal device 110 detects (2020) the monitoring information that indicates the DCI on one or more search spaces. For example, downlink control monitoring information (DCMI) may be configured to indicate DCI monitoring information on one or more search space.

[0054] In some embodiments, the monitoring information is one of DCI format with a dedicated radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) . For example, the DCMI may be one of DCI formats with DCMI specific RNTI.

[0055] Alternatively, the monitoring information is an indication in DCI with cell-RNTI (C-RNTI) . For example, the DCMI may be a bit field in DCI with cell-RNTI. By way of example, the monitoring information may be an indication in the DCI that indicates this DCI is used for DCMI information.

[0056] In some embodiments, the monitoring information is a default DCI format. For example, DCMI may be a fallback / default DCI format. Alternatively, the monitoring information is in a format of which DCI size is same as the default DCI format. For example, the DCMI may be a DCI format of which the DCI size is the same as fallback / default DCI format.

[0057] In some embodiments, one or more physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidates for the monitoring information are common search space for default DCI monitoring. For example, the PDCCH candidates for DCMI monitoring may be a common search space for default DCI monitoring.

[0058] In some embodiments, the DCMI may be a new DCI format on common or a new UE specific search space. In this case, the DCMI may be configured or implicitly determined DCI size and / or the number of candidates.

[0059] In some embodiments, the monitoring information indicates the number of PDCCH monitoring information where each PDCCH monitoring information indicates at least one of a PDCCH monitoring starting position, an aggregation level, or a DCI size for PDCCH monitoring. For example, the DCMI may indicate the PDCCH monitoring information used by the terminal device 110 to reduce the number of PDCCH monitoring, including the number of PDCCH monitoring information where each PDCCH monitoring information indicates the PDCCH monitoring starting position (CCE index) , the aggregation level and the DCI size for PDCCH monitoring.

[0060] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit a configuration indicating whether DCI size alignment to another DCI is used. That is, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, the configuration indicating whether DCI size alignment to another DCI is used. For example, due to DCMI, DCI size alignment is not always needed for UE to reduce the number of blind detections of PDCCH. For each DCI format, RRC may configure whether DCI size alignment to another DCI is used. For example, if the field is configured for DCI format A with an indication of DCI format B, the size of DCI format A is aligned with DCI format B.

[0061] In some embodiments, the monitoring information indicates information to reduce blind detection of PDCCH candidates. For example, the DCMI may indicate the starting position of the PDCCH candidates but the aggregation level and DCI size is still blind detected by the terminal device 110.

[0062] In some embodiments, PDCCH candidates in a search space set are divided into a plurality of search space subsets, and the monitoring information indicates a search space subset needed for blind detection. For example, PDCCH candidates in a search space (SS) set may be divided into multiple SS sub-set, the DCMI indicates the sub-set needed for blind detection that reduce the number of BD while balancing the needed signaling overhead.

[0063] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may detect at least one of a first type of PDCCH candidates or a second type of PDCCH candidates for monitoring the DCI. For example, there may be two types of PDCCH. In some embodiments, the first type of PDCCH candidates may include PDCCH candidates in a search space and / or the second type of PDCCH candidates may PDCCH candidates in a non-search space. Alternatively, the first type of PDCCH candidates may include blind detection PDCCH candidates in the search space and / or the second type of PDCCH candidates may include non blind detection PDCCH candidates in the search space. For example, the terminal device 110 may not require doing blind detection of the type 2 PDCCH (i.e., the second type of PDCCH) . Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may detect the type 2 PDCCH only when the network device 120 indicates the terminal device to do so, for example, by an indication in type 1 PDCCH (i.e., the first type of PDCCH) .

[0064] In some embodiments, a CCE index of type 1 PDCCH and type 2 PDCCH may have the same hashing rule. PDCCH candidates index for aggregation level L within the RRC configured number of BD candidates may be type 1 PDCCH and PDCCH candidates index outside the RRC configured number of BD candidates may be type 2 PDCCH.

[0065] In some embodiments, a capability of PDCCH detection indicates a maximum number of the first type of PDCCH candidates and a maximum number of the second type of PDCCH candidates. For example, UE capability of PDCCH detection includes two aspects which are maximum number of type 1 PDCCH candidates and maximum number of type 2 PDCCH candidates.

[0066] In some embodiments, the monitoring information may be a group common DCI. In this case, a bit block in the group common DCI may indicate the monitoring information for the terminal device 110 where the block number is indicated by RRC. Alternatively, or in addition, the group common DCI may indicate one or more of: a common skipping indication or a dedicated skipping indication for each terminal device monitoring the group common DCI. For example, the skipping indication in dedicated DCI may require more overhead, especially, when DCI skipping does not usually happen for on duration period. Group common skipping indication may reduce the overall overhead.

[0067] The network device 120 transmits (2030) DCI to the terminal device 110. If the monitoring information is detected, the terminal device 110 monitors (2040) , based on the detected monitoring information, the DCI from the network device. In some embodiments, if the monitoring information is not detected, the terminal device 110 may monitor one or more PDCCH candidates. For example, if the DCMI is not detected by the terminal device 110, the terminal device 110 continues monitoring PDCCH candidates in SS, i.e., DCI is self-contained with complete information even DCMI is missed by the terminal device 110.

[0068] An example of monitoring DCI is shown in FIG. 3. The terminal device 110 may detect DCMI 310 on the PDCCH in the CORESET 300. The DCMI 310 may indicate that the number of PDCCH candidate is 2. Further, the DCMI 310 may indicate a starting position, an aggregation level and a DCI size for the first PDCCH candidate. Alternatively, or in addition, the DCMI may indicate a starting position, an aggregation level and a DCI size for the second PDCCH candidate. The terminal device 110 may monitor / receive the DCI 320-1 on PDCCH with DCI size 1 and the DCI 320-2 on PDCCH with DCI size 2 based on the DCMI.

[0069] Reference is made to FIG. 4, which illustrates a signaling flow 400 of DCI monitoring in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 400 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0070] The network device 120 transmits (4010) DCI including a DCI monitoring indication to the terminal device 110. That is, the terminal device 110 receives (4010) the DCI including the DCI monitoring indication from the network device 120. For example, a DCI monitoring indication field may be configured in the DCI. In this case, since all transmitted PDCCHs to the terminal device 110 are structured, the terminal device 110 may use this field to reduce the number of PDCCH monitoring.

[0071] In some embodiments, the DCI monitoring indication may indicate the number of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) to be detected by the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, there is only one DCI scheduled by network, but the terminal device 110 cannot assume it. In this case, the terminal device 110 may monitor all PDCCH candidates even if one DCI is detected by the terminal device 110. With such indication, the terminal device 110 may stop monitoring the remaining PDCCH candidates. In some embodiments, the number of PDCCH is the number of PDCCH in one of: one control resource set (CORESET) , a plurality of CORESETs, one slot, or a plurality of slots.

[0072] Alternatively, or in addition, the DCI monitoring indication indicates an index of a next PDCCH candidate for detection. For example, the DCI monitoring indication may include the indexing of the next PDCCH occasion / candidates (NPC) for UE detection. For example, for each PDCCH monitoring candidate, an indexing is used to associate the PDCCH monitoring candidates. DCI field may indicate the next PDCCH occasion indexing. For example, as shown in FIG. 5, the DCI monitoring indication 520-1 in the PDCCH monitoring candidate 510-1 may indicate the PDCCH monitoring candidate 510-2 which is the next PDCCH candidate for detection, and the DCI monitoring indication 520-2 in the PDCCH monitoring candidate 510-2 may indicate the PDCCH monitoring candidate 510-3. In this case, the terminal device 110 may monitor the PDCCH based on the index. For example, the terminal device 110 may assume there is no PDCCH monitoring candidate between the current PDCCH monitoring candidate and the indicated PDCCH monitoring candidate.

[0073] In some embodiments, if the DCI is on a last PDCCH occasion, the DCI monitoring indication indicates a first PDCCH occasion where a circular linked list is indicated among PDCCH candidates. For example, as shown in FIG. 5, for the last PDCCH monitoring candidate 520-3, the DCI monitoring indication 520-3 indicates the first PDCCH monitoring candidate 520-1. In some other embodiments, the DCI monitoring indication indicates whether the DCI is a last DCI.

[0074] The network device 120 transmits (4020) one or more subsequent DCI to the terminal device 110. The terminal device 110 monitor (4030) , based on the DCI monitoring indication, one or more subsequent DCI from the network device 120. For example, if the DCI monitoring indication indicates the DCI is the last DCI, the terminal device 110 may stop monitoring remaining PDDCH candidates for monitoring the one or more subsequent DCI. As another example, as shown in FIG. 5, after receiving the DCI monitoring indication 520-1 in the PDCCH monitoring candidate 510-1, the terminal device 110 may monitor the PDCCH monitoring candidate 510-2.

[0075] Reference is made to FIG. 6, which illustrates a signaling flow 600 of DCI monitoring in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 600 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0076] The network device 120 transmits (6010) , to the terminal device 110, DCI on a PDSCH. That is, the terminal device 110 receives (6010) , from the network device 120, the DCI on the PDSCH. The DCI schedules at least one of PDSCH or physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) .

[0077] In some embodiments, the DCI on the PDSCH is a complete DCI. For example, the DCI is not used for the current PDSCH demodulation. Instead, the DCI is used to schedule further PDSCH or PUSCH.

[0078] In some embodiments, the DCI on the PDSCH is a DCI transmitted in a control resource set (CORESET) of PDSCH. Alternatively, the DCI on the PDSCH is a DCI transmitted in medium access control control element (MAC CE) .

[0079] In some embodiments, at least one of: a presence of CORSET of PDSCH or the number of PDSCH CORESET control channel element (CCE) is indicated by physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) DCI dynamically. For example, the CORESET of PDSCH may be a dynamic CORESET. The presence of PDSCH CORESET and / or the number of PDSCH CORESET CCE may be indicated by PDCCH DCI dynamically. Alternatively, at least one of: the presence of CORESET of PDSCH or the number of PDSCH CORESET CCE is configured by radio resource control (RRC) signaling. For example, the presence of PDSCH CORESET and / or the number of PDSCH CORESET CCE may be configured by RRC semi-statically.

[0080] In some embodiments, the DCI on the PDSCH may include downlink control monitoring information. For example, the PDSCH DCMI may be indicated in PDSCH DCI. In this way, PDCCH DCI only indicates the presence of DCMI and DCMI indicates the number of PDSCH CORESET CCE. In some other embodiments, PDSCH CORESET CCE is defined. In this case, the number of resources in PDSCH used for the DCI is determined based on the number of CCEs.

[0081] In some embodiments, there may be one or more DCI transmitted in PDSCH CORESET. PDSCH DCI BD may be needed depends on whether PDSCH DCI candidates are indicated / known by the terminal device 110. Alternatively, the PDSCH DCI BD may not be needed depends on whether PDSCH DCI candidates are indicated / known by the terminal device 110.

[0082] In some embodiments, a first DCI format is configured for DCI on PDCCH and a second DCI format is configured for the DCI on the PDSCH, and the first DCI format is different from the second DCI format. In other words, different / separated DCI formats are configured for PDCCH DCI and PDSCH DCI. For example, DCI format 0_1 is monitored for PDCCH DCI and DCI format 0_3 is monitoring for PDSCH DCI.

[0083] In some embodiments, a DCI format includes a plurality of blocks where each block corresponds to a DCI format used for scheduling. For example, a new DCI format may be configured only in PDSCH DCI. The new DCI format could have multiple blocks where each block corresponds to a DCI format used for scheduling / indication.

[0084] In some embodiments, the DCI may be transmitted in MAC CE. There may be a plurality of MAC CEs for DCI. In this case, each DCI corresponds to a MAC CE. The DCI transmitted in the MAC CE may indicate a DCI format and corresponding DCI bit field.

[0085] In some embodiments, if a first data indication in DCI on a PDCCH is equal to a predefined value, the terminal device 110 may apply MAC CE DCI. In PDCCH DCI, there are two fields which are legacy field new data indication (NDI) and newly field first data indication (FDI) . If it is the first PDSCH scheduled by DCI, FDI is ‘1’ , otherwise, FDI is ‘0’ . Further, the terminal device 110 may apply MAC CE DCI only when FDI is ‘1’ .

[0086] An example of DCI in PDSCH is shown in FIG. 7. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may receive the DCI 710 on PDCCH. In some embodiments, the DCI 710 may schedule the PDSCH 740. Alternatively, or in addition, the DCI 710 may include an indication 711 that may schedules the DCMI 723 on the PDSCH. In some embodiments, the DCI 722 on PDSCH may schedule PUSCH 731. Alternatively, or in addition, the DCI 721 on PDSCH may schedule PDSCH 732.

[0087] FIG. 8 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 800 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 800 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1.

[0088] At block 810, the terminal device detects, from a network device, monitoring information indicating downlink control information (DCI) on one or more search spaces.

[0089] At block 820, in response to that the monitoring information is detected, the terminal device monitors, based on the detected monitoring information, the DCI from the network device.

[0090] In some example embodiments, the monitoring information is one of DCI format with a dedicated radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) , or wherein the monitoring information is an indication in DCI with cell-RNTI (C-RNTI) .

[0091] In some example embodiments, the monitoring information is a default DCI format, or wherein the monitoring information is in a format of which DCI size is same as the default DCI format.

[0092] In some example embodiments, one or more physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidates for the monitoring information are common search space for default DCI monitoring.

[0093] In some example embodiments, the monitoring information indicates the number of PDCCH monitoring information where each PDCCH monitoring information indicates at least one of a PDCCH monitoring starting position, an aggregation level, or a DCI size for PDCCH monitoring.

[0094] In some example embodiments, the method 800 further includes receiving, from the network device, a configuration indicating whether DCI size alignment to another DCI is used.

[0095] In some example embodiments, the monitoring information indicates information to reduce blind detection of PDCCH candidates.

[0096] In some example embodiments, PDCCH candidates in a search space set are divided into a plurality of search space subsets, and wherein the monitoring information indicates a search space subset needed for blind detection.
