[0036] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (loT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (for example, remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (for example, a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0037] Based on conventional framework, for Type 1 spatial domain adaptation, each sub-configuration includes a port subset indication in form of a bitmap which has a size equal to the total number of (configured) CSI-RS ports. Each sub-configuration and thus its bitmap are intended to configure the UE to compute CSI for a subset of ports, so that this CSI is then reported to the network. The network could then use such assistance information in the decision-making regarding spatial and / or power domain adaptation.

[0038] However, in Rel-19, the total number of CSI-RS ports is extended and can be up to 128 ports. There are also proposals towards 6G to further increase this number to e.g., 256 ports (or even higher) . Obviously, assuming only a few hypotheses for MIMO / ports muting, the required number of bits just to indicate bitmaps in the few corresponding sub-configurations would incur a very large configuration overhead.

[0039] Thus, considering the increased number of CSI-RS ports, the conventional framework needs to be improved in such a way to retain, to a certain extent, flexibility in configuring different spatial (or MIMO) muting / adaptation hypotheses, yet without increasing the configuration overhead much.

[0040] For illustrative purposes, principles and example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described below with reference to Figs. 1-8. However, it is to be noted that these embodiments are given to enable the skilled in the art to understand concepts of the present disclosure and implement the solution as proposed herein, and not intended to limit scope of the present disclosure in any way.

[0041] Fig. 1 illustrates an example of a network environment 100 in which some exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. In the descriptions of the exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure, the network environment 100 may also be referred to as a communication system 100 (for example, a portion of a communication network) . For illustrative purposes only, various aspects of exemplary embodiments will be described in the context of one or more terminal devices and network devices that communicate with one another. It should be appreciated, however, that the description herein may be applicable to other types of apparatus or other similar apparatuses that are referenced using other terminology.

[0042] The network device 102 may provide services to the terminal devices 101. The network device 102 and the terminal device 101 may communicate data and control information with each other. In some exemplary embodiments, the network device 102 and the terminal device 101 may communicate with direct links / channels.

[0043] In the communication system 100, a link from the network device 102 to the terminal device (s) is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device (s) to the network device 102 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In downlink, the network device 102 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device (s) is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In uplink, the terminal device (s) is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the network device 102 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0044] Communications in the network environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the fourth generation (4G) and the fifth generation (5G) and on the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0045] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connection relationships and types shown in Fig. 1 are for illustrative purposes only without suggesting any limitation. The communication system 100 may comprise any suitable number of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0046] CSI-RS has many functions in NR, e.g., CSI-RS for DL CSI acquisition; CSI-RS for beam management (BM) (based on layer 1 (L1) -reference signal received power (RSRP) ) ; CSI-RS for tracking (TRS) ; or UL CSI acquisition in reciprocity-based UL precoding. In some applications (e.g., CSI-RS for BM) , CSI-RS are spatially beamformed into different directions.

[0047] Channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) are UE-specifically configured in radio resource control (RRC) . However, CSI-RS reference signals can be shared among many UEs, i.e., more than 1 UE are configured to receive the same resource elements (RE) .

[0048] In general, to save on DL resources, the gNB would try to use cell-specific or group-specific CSI-RS resources. The worst case of DL overhead is with UE specific CSI-RS, where the DL overhead increases linearly with the number of UEs in the cell.

[0049] In general, a UE can be configured with up to 48 report configurations (CSI-ReportConfig) per component carrier (CC) or 4 report configurations (CSI-ReportConfig) per bandwidth part (BWP) . One CSI resource config within 1 report configuration can be configured with up to 16 resource sets (aperiodic CSI) and 1 resource set (otherwise) . In each CSI resource, it may set up to 64 non-zero power (NZP CSI-RS) resources and 1 NZP-CSI-RS resource up to 32 antenna ports.

[0050] For CSI acquisition, the UE is also configured with a codebook type. Given the measured channel across a CSI-RS resource, the UE can choose a favorite codeword from the specified codebook, i.e., precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , along with channel quality indicator (CQI) , rank indicator (RI) . UE can also be configured to measure several CSI-RS resources (up to 8) within a resource set and report the favorite resource, CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , along with PMI, CQI and RI which corresponds to that selected resource.

[0051] In the time domain, a CSI-RS resource may start at any OFDM symbol of a slot and it spans 1, 2, or 4 OFDM symbols depending on the number of ports configured. Likewise, the UE measurement reporting of CSI can be also operated with periodic manner, semi-persistent manner, or aperiodic manner, which is so-called report types in NR report configuration.

[0052] Furthermore, there are certain limitations, based on which the UE periodic report can operate only based on the configured periodic CSI-RS resource-set, the UE semi-persistent report can operate based on both configured periodic and semi-persistent CSI-RS resource-set, and finally the UE aperiodic report can operate based on all periodic, semi-persistent, and aperiodic CSI-RS resource-set. In other words, the periodic CSI-RS resources can be used to generate any report type, the semi-persistent and periodic CSI-RS resources can be used to generate semi-persistent (SP) CSI reports, and the aperiodic CSI-RS (A-CSI-RS) can only be utilized only to generate the aperiodic report.

[0053] Further, for the frequency granularity, the CSI Report Setting also defines which part of the bandwidth the CSI may correspond to, and in addition, what granularity in frequency the CSI may have. To accomplish this, the bandwidth of a BWP is divided into a number of sub-bands.

[0054] All CSI-RS resources within one set are configured with same density and same nrofPorts, except for the NZP CSI-RS resources used for interference measurement. For semi-persistent and aperiodic CSI-RS, the actual triggering of CSI-RS transmission is per CSI-RS resource-set via either medium access control-control element (MAC) CE or downlink control information (DCI) . A resource set can be used as part of UE report configurations describing what to be measured and, correspondingly, which measurement reporting are to be done by the UE. Specifically, if a CSI-RS resource-set is configured as ‘aperiodic’ by RRC, the CSI-RS resource set configuration includes a slot offset, aperiodicTriggeringOffset which defines the time interval between the triggering DCI and the CSI-RS transmission.

[0055] For aperiodic CSI (A-CSI) reporting up to 16 different reporting settings can be triggered with single DCI (e.g. for multiple component carriers) , while SP-CSI reporting can trigger only one report setting with a single DCI. In order to trigger several SP-CSI reports (each in different slots) , multiple DCIs are needed.

[0056] For CSI-based antenna and power adaptation, there is unified and enhanced CSI framework for enabling spatial adaptation and / or power adaptation. Two types of spatial domain (SD) adaptations, namely Type 1 and Type 2 have been specified. For type 1 SD adaptation, each spatial pattern corresponds to different (logical) antenna port subset, and all antenna elements associated to a logical antenna port is disabled / enabled. For Type 2 SD adaptation, each spatial pattern corresponds to same number of (logical) antenna ports but different CSI-RS resources, and part / subset of antenna elements associated to a logical antenna port is disabled / enabled.

[0057] For power domain (PD) adaptation, an adaptation corresponds to a different power (offset) level-corresponding to data channel. Further, joint operation of SD adaptation and PD adaptation is supported.

[0058] For CSI report configuration, it can contain multiple sub-configurations. Each sub-configuration basically corresponds to a spatial pattern or to a power level. For Type 1 SD adaptation, a sub-configuration corresponds to an antenna port subset. For Type 2 SD adaptation, a sub-configuration corresponds to a list of (one or more) CSI-RS resources. For PD, a sub-configuration corresponds to a power offset (with respect to PowerControlOffset) . Further, only codebook Type I is supported.

[0059] For sub-configurations, for Type 1 SD adaptation, a sub-configuration includes: (N1, N2) for single panel, (N1, N2, Ng) for multi-panel, port subset indication (bitmap) , Codebook subset restriction, Rank restriction. For Type 2 SD adaptation, a sub-configuration includes a list of CSI-RS resources. For PD adaptation, a sub-configuration includes sub-configuration contains a Power offset.

[0060] As mentioned above, based on conventional framework, for Type 1 spatial domain adaptation, each sub-configuration includes a port subset indication in form of a bitmap which has a size equal to the total number of (configured) CSI-RS ports. Each sub-configuration and thus its bitmap are intended to configure the UE to compute CSI for a subset of ports, so that this CSI is then reported to the network. The network could then use such assistance information in the decision-making regarding spatial and / or power domain adaptation.

[0061] However, in Rel-19, the total number of CSI-RS ports is extended and can be up to 128 ports.

[0062] Thus, considering the increased number of CSI-RS ports, the conventional framework needs to be improved in such a way to retain, to a certain extent, flexibility in configuring different spatial (or MIMO) muting / adaptation hypotheses, yet without increasing the configuration overhead much.

[0063] In view of the foregoing, an example signaling process 200 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure will be described with referent to Fig. 2. For the purpose of discussion, the communication process 200 will be described with reference to Fig. 1. It would be appreciated that although the communication process 200 has been described referring to the network environment 100 of Fig. 1, this communication process 200 may be likewise applied to other similar communication scenarios.

[0064] As shown in Fig. 2, the network device 102 transmits (205) to the terminal device 101 grouping information on partitioning a set of reference signal (RS) ports into multiple groups of RS ports, and the terminal device 101 receives (210) the grouping information. The grouping information can indicate to the terminal device 101 the information on multiple groups of RS ports that are partitioned or divided from the set of RS ports. In some embodiments, the group information may comprise indexes of the multiple groups of RS ports.

[0065] The network device 102 transmits (215) , to the terminal device 101, a first indication indicating a first selection of at least one group of RS ports from the multiple groups of RS ports, and the terminal device 101 receives (220) the first indication. The network device 102 transmits (225) , to the terminal device 101, a second indication indicating a second selection of at least one RS ports within at least one selected group of RS ports, and the terminal device 101 receives (230) the second indication. Then, the terminal device 101 determines (235) based on the first indication and the second indication, at least one subset of RS ports associated with at least one sub-configuration for reporting.

[0066] Then, as shown in Fig. 2, the terminal device 101 transmits (240) at least one report comprising at least one feedback quantity associated with the at least one determined subset of RS ports, and the network device 102 receives (245) the at least one report.

[0067] Before transmitting the at least one report, the terminal device 101 may determine, based on the at least one determined subset of RS ports and the at least one sub-configuration, the at least one feedback quantity. It should be appreciated that in some embodiments, ‘sub-configuration’ may be replaced by ‘configuration’ , where multiple such configurations may be comprised in or associated with a same parent configuration.

[0068] Thus, the process 200 proposes a method to enable the terminal device to determine a subset of RS ports through: (i) partitioning of the set of ports into multiple groups of RS ports, where each group contains multiple RS ports, and (ii) using a two-level selection procedure to determine a subset of (enabled / disabled) RS ports. Thus, the process 200 can determine a subset of RS ports for CSI reporting via grouping RS ports and two-level selection on RS ports in case of large number of RS ports. By using multi-level (mainly two-level) selections, it can enable a flexible configuration / indication of different assumptions / hypotheses, and each of different assumptions / hypotheses may correspond to or be related to a spatial setting / pattern at the network.

[0069] In some embodiments, the above process 200 may apply to all or part of the set of RS ports. In some embodiments, an RS port may be a DMRS (demodulation reference signal) port or a CSI-RS port or a TRS (tracking reference signal) port. In at least some embodiments, multiple RS port may be CSI-RS ports, or may comprise or may be any combination of at least one CSI-RS port, at least one DMRS port, or at least one TRS port.

[0070] In some embodiments, the terminal device 101 may determine, based on the grouping information, the number of the multiple groups of RS ports and a size of a group of RS ports. For example, the set of RS ports may be represented as a two-dimensional array (such as a rectangular array) , and this two-dimensional array may correspond to the number of ports in the vertical (elevation) dimension, namely N2, and the number of ports in the horizontal (azimuth) dimension, namely N1. Thus, the total number of the set of RS ports can be N1*N2. In some embodiments, a group of RS ports is formed by X1*X2 ports, where X1 is the number of ports in the group in horizontal dimension and X2 is the number of ports in the group in vertical dimension, considering certain mapping order (or method) . If the total number of ports (in the set of ports) is P ports (for example, P= N1*N2) , the number of groups equals to the total number of ports divided by the size of a group, i.e., P / (X1*X2) groups. In some embodiments, if selection is same / symmetrical for the two polarizations, the number of groups is equal to P /  (2*X1*X2) groups. Hence, each group contains or is of size X1*X2 ports.

[0071] In some embodiments, the terminal device may determine the at least one subset of RS ports by several operations. The operations comprise, for example, selecting, based on the first indication, the at least one group of RS ports from the multiple groups of RS ports; selecting, based on the second indication, the at least one RS ports within the at least one selected group of RS ports; and determining, based on the selected RS ports, the at least one subset of RS ports. In some embodiments, the RS port (s) selected from each selected group may form the at least one subset of RS ports associated with at least one sub-configuration for reporting.

[0072] For example, the partitioning of the set of ports into multiple groups of RS ports is associated with the grouping information, and the first-level selection for selecting groups of RS ports from a partitioning of the total number of ports may be associated with the first indication, and the second-level selection for selecting ports within each group of RS ports (or within at least some groups of RS ports) may be associated with the second indication.

[0073] First-level selection, i.e. selection of RS groups, in the first level can be indicated / done using a first indication, e.g., using a bitmap of size P /  (X1*X2) , or of size P / (2*X1*X2) if selection is same / symmetrical for the two polarizations. Second-level selection, i.e. selection of RS ports within each group selected in the first-selection level, can be indication / done using a second indication, e.g., using a bitmap of size X1*X2. This is assuming a group-common second level selection.

[0074] In some embodiments, the subset of RS ports may be constructed by determining a first half or part of the subset for one polarization, and then fill the second half of the subset, if the second half of the subset is symmetrical / uniform for the second polarization. Thus, if the grouping information, the first indication and the second indication as mentioned above are configured for each polarization of two polarizations, the terminal device may determine the subset of the RS ports by dividing a total number of RS ports into two parts; determining, based on the first indication and the second indication, the at least one subset of RS ports for a first part of the two parts; and then determining, based on the determined at least one subset of RS ports for the first part, RS ports for a second part of the two parts.

[0075] Hereinafter, some examples of determination of a subset of RS ports based on two-level selection will be described with reference to Fig. 3A and Fig. 3B.

[0076] Assuming a total number of ports is equal to 64, the set of ports is partitioned into multiple groups of RS ports, and each group as shown in Fig. 3A or Fig. 3B is of size X1*X2 = 2*2 = 4, thus the number of groups = 64 / 4 = 16.

[0077] If there are two polarizations and symmetrical selection is configured for the two polarizations, 8 groups are allocated for each polarization, and each of Fig. 3A and Fig. 3B illustrates 8 groups for the first polarization, and each group is illustrated by each dash line block, and K as shown in Fig. 3A and Fig. 3B is equal to 2, and the total number of the RS ports is equal to N1*N2*2=64.

[0078] As shown in Fig. 3A, the bitmap of first-level selection indication for first or second polarization is [1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1] , and this means that all of the 8 groups for the first or second polarization are selected (for example, the 4 groups at the left side and the 4 groups at the right side are selected) , and the order is vertical first and horizontal second. As shown in Fig. 3A, the bitmap of second-level selection indication for first or second polarization is [1 0 0 0] , and this means that one port of 4 ports in each group is selected or enabled, and the selected port in each group in Fig. 3A is shown by the gray block. Therefore, the indexes of the subset of enabled RS ports for two polarizations are {0, 2, 8, 10, 16, 18, 24, 26, 32, 34, 40, 42, 48, 50, 56, 58} .

[0079] As shown in Fig. 3B, the bitmap of first-level selection indication for first or second polarization is [1 1 1 1 0 0 0 0] , and this means that 4 groups of the 8 groups for first or second polarization are selected (for example, only the 4 groups at the left side are selected) , and the order is vertical first and horizontal second. As shown in Fig. 3B, the bitmap of second-level selection indication for first or second polarization is [1 0 0 0] , and this means that one port of 4 ports in each group is selected or enabled, and the selected port in each group in Fig. 3B is shown by the gray block. Therefore, the indexes of the subset of enabled RS ports for two polarizations are {0, 2, 8, 10, 32, 34, 40, 42} .

[0080] In some embodiments, the partitioning parameters and / or the two-level selection / indication information, e.g., for a sub-configuration, may be updated via MAC CE and / or DCI. Thus, the terminal device may receive, via at least one of a medium access control element (MAC-CE) or downlink control information (DCI) , updated grouping information, an updated first indication, an updated second indication, or any combination thereof. Thus, there is the possibility of (dynamically) updating / indicating e.g., grouping information via MAC CE or DCI, such as partitioning information, number of RS groups, size of each RS group, etc. In some embodiments, the indexes of RS groups and the indexes of the RS ports in each group may be dynamically indicated.

[0081] In some embodiments, the sub-configuration comprises CSI sub-configuration, and the feedback quantity is associated with the CSI reporting, and may comprise: a channel quality indicator (CQI) ; a rank indicator (RI) ; a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) ; a reference signal resource indicator; a received signal received power (RSRP) ; a signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) ; a channel state information (CSI) -RS resource indicator (CRI) ; interference information; interference plus noise information; a time-domain channel property; a frequency domain channel property; a spatial domain channel property; a delay offset; a frequency offset; or any combination thereof.

[0082] Hereinafter, an example signaling process of determining a subset of RS ports based on multi-level selections in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 4. It should be appreciated that the NW is an example of the network device, and the UE is an example of the terminal device.

[0083] As shown in Fig. 4, at 402, the NW transmits to the UE configuration information. In some embodiments, the configuration information may comprise: (i) information on partitioning a set of RS ports into multiple groups of RS ports, where each group contains multiple ports; (ii) two-level selection information comprising a first-level indication and a second level indication associated with respective at least one sub-configuration; or combination thereof. Therefore, in some embodiments, the grouping information, the first indication and the second indication may be comprised in configuration information associated with the at least one sub-configuration. Thus, the terminal device 101 may receive from the network device 102 a network configuration information, and then determine a subset of RS ports based on this network configuration information.

[0084] At 404, the NW optionally transmits to the UE a triggering of CSI (measurement and / or) reporting for the at least one sub-configuration. For example, the UE may then be indicated / triggered to compute CSI for one or more sub-configurations according to their respective subsets of RS ports. The UE may either be instructed by the network, e.g., through CSI trigger state, to measure and / or report CSI for all triggered / indicated sub-configuration.

[0085] Upon reception of triggering of CSI measurement and / or reporting, at 406, the UE may determine at least one subset of (enabled) RS ports, from the set of RS ports, corresponding to the at least one sub-configuration based on the configuration information. For example, the UE may determine the least one subset of (enabled) RS ports by determining the number of groups of RS ports and the size of each group based on the partitioning information, and then determining selected groups and ports within each group based on the two-level selection information. Then, at 408, the UE calculates at least one CSI based on the determined at least one subset of RS ports and according to the at least one sub-configuration (the at least one sub-configuration is associated with or corresponds to the at least one subset of RS ports) .

[0086] Then, at 410, the UE transmits reports containing the at least one CSI to the NW. For example, reporting CSI may correspond to sending one or more CSI reports / sub-reports each containing at least one CSI quantity (such as CQI, PMI, RI, SINR, RSRP, interference information, interference plus noise information, time domain channel priorities, frequency domain channel properties, spatial domain channel property, etc. ) . Alternatively, the UE may be configured to select at least one sub-configuration (or at least one subset of RS ports) according to certain criterion / criteria such as in terms of rank, CQI, RSRP, etc. And the UE may report corresponding CSI (of the selected at least one sub-configuration) to the network. The UE may also indicate information indicative of selected at least one sub-configuration (or at least one subset of RS ports) . Then, at 412, the NW uses the reported at least one CSI to make a suitable spatial (and / or power) adaptation decision such as a MIMO muting / unmuting decision (i.e., muting / unmuting spatial elements such as antenna elements, ports, panel (s) , sub-panel (s) , transmission and / or reception point, etc. ) . In some examples, the CSI reporting may be defined as event-based reporting wherein the event corresponds to at least one condition being met, where such at least one condition may correspond to the above criterion / criteria.

[0087] Hereinafter, some additional aspects of the sub-configuration will be described.

[0088] In some embodiments, a first sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration comprises aggregation of at least two subsets of RS ports; and a subset of RS ports of the at least two subsets of RS ports correspond to another sub-configuration different from the first sub-configuration. For example, a sub-configuration may comprise aggregation of at least two subsets of RS ports. A subset of RS ports, of the at least two subsets of RS ports, may correspond to another sub-configuration.

[0089] In some embodiments, the terminal device may determine the at least one subset of RS ports associated with at least one sub-configuration for reporting through several operations and steps, for example, the operations and steps may comprise determining, based on the first indication and the second indication, a first subset of RS ports for a first sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration; and determining, based on the first indication and the second indication, a second subset of RS ports for a second sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration. For example, the UE may determine a first subset of RS ports for a first sub-configuration and a second subset of RS ports for a second sub-configuration, e.g., based on the proposed process 200 above.

[0090] In some embodiments, a third sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration comprises aggregation of the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports. In this way, the terminal device may further receive, second configuration information on the third sub-configuration. In some embodiments, the second configuration information may comprise: information indicative of identities of the first sub-configuration and the second sub-configuration; information indicative of the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports; or combination thereof. For example, a third sub-configuration may comprise indication indicative that the corresponding (third) subset of RS ports is or comprises aggregation of: the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports. This can be indicated under the third sub-configuration by indicating information indicative of identifiers of the first and the second sub-configurations, or indicative of the first subset and the second subset of RS ports.

[0091] In some embodiments, a first sub-configuration of two sub-configurations may be associated with a second sub-configuration of two sub-configurations. For example, two sub-configurations may be associated with each other, or two subsets of RS ports may be associated with each other.

[0092] In some embodiments, the association is that one of the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports is included in the other of the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports. For example, the association may correspond to having a first subset of RS ports being, fully or partially, comprised in a second subset of RS ports.

[0093] In some embodiments, the first subset of RS ports is included in the second subset of RS ports, and thus a size of a bitmap indicating the first subset of RS ports is equal to the number of enabled RS ports; or the number of bits with a first value (for example, value 1) in a bitmap indicating the second subset of RS ports. For example, in the case that the first subset of RS ports is comprised in the second subset of RS ports, the size of the bitmap indicating the first subset of RS ports may be equal to the number of enabled RS ports (i.e., number of bits with value ‘1’ in the bitmap indicating the second subset of RS ports) .

[0094] In some embodiments, the association is that the first sub-configuration includes an indication indicative of the second sub-configuration or the second subset of RS ports, or that the second sub-configuration includes an indication indicative of the first sub-configuration or the first subset of RS ports. For example, a first sub-configuration may be associated with a second sub-configuration by e.g., including an indication indicative of the second sub-configuration, or its subset of RS ports, in the first sub-configuration.

[0095] In some embodiments, the number of ports in the vertical and / or horizontal dimension may correspond to several aggregated RS resources (such as CSI-RS resources) each of which with a certain number of RS ports. For example, a first sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration comprises an indication of a first subset of RS ports corresponding to a first set of RS resources of a total number of RS resources. Further, a second sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration comprises an indication of a second subset of RS ports corresponding to a second set of RS resources of the total number of RS resources.

[0096] By indicating a first sub-configuration with at least one RS resource, the terminal device may receive, from the network device, a first RS resource indication indicative of the first set of RS resources; and determine, based on the first RS resource indication, that the first subset of RS ports are enabled and the second subset of RS ports are disabled. Further, by indicating a second sub-configuration with at least one RS resource, the terminal device may receive, from the network device, a second RS resource indication indicative of the second set of RS resource; and determine, based on the second RS resource indication, that the second subset of RS ports are enabled and the first subset of RS ports are disabled.

[0097] For example, a sub-configuration may comprise indication of a subset of RS ports by indicating at least one RS resource. For example, assuming 4 RS resources (such as CSI-RS resources) , a subset of RS ports may comprise or correspond to: RS resource 1 and RS resource 2, and another subset of RS port may comprise or correspond to: RS resource 1. Based on the former subset (i.e. a subset of RS ports may comprise or correspond to RS resource 1 and RS resource 2) , the UE assumes all the RS ports of the RS resource 1 and RS resource 2 are enabled for CSI calculation, and thus RS ports corresponding to e.g., RS resource 3 and RS resource 4 are disabled. On the other hand, based on the latter subset (i.e. another subset of RS port may comprise or correspond to RS resource 1) , the UE assumes all the RS ports of the RS resource 1 are enabled, and thus the RS ports of the other RS resources are disabled.

[0098] In some embodiments, the first indication and the second indication associated with the at least one sub-configuration are received via a bitmap indicating at least one enabled port and at least one disabled port; two bitmaps for two-level selection indicating at least one enabled port and at least one disabled port; an indication of at least one RS resource; or combination thereof.

[0099] For example, a sub-configuration may be associated or may comprise indication indicative of the type of subset of RS ports. In one example, a type may correspond to that indication of the subset is indicated to the UE using on one bitmap (indicating enabled RS ports, and disabled RS ports) .

[0100] In one example, a type may correspond to that indication of the subset is indicated to the UE using two-level (or multi-level) selection using two bitmaps (indicating enabled RS ports, and disabled RS ports) . In one example, a type may correspond to that indication of the subset is indicated to the UE using RS resource (s) indication. In one example, a type may correspond to that indication of the subset is indicated to the UE using a mix / combination of bitmap and indication of the subset through RS resource (s) indication.

[0101] Fig. 5 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 500 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some other embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 500 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 101 with reference to Fig. 1.

[0102] As shown in Fig. 5, at block 510, the terminal device receives, from a network device, grouping information on partitioning a set of reference signal (RS) ports into multiple groups of RS ports. At block 520, the terminal device receives, from the network device, a first indication indicating a first selection of at least one group of RS ports from the multiple groups of RS ports. At block 530, the terminal device receives, from the network device, a second indication indicating a second selection of at least one RS ports within at least one selected group of RS ports. At block 540, the terminal device determines, based on the first indication and the second indication, at least one subset of RS ports associated with at least one sub-configuration for reporting. At block 550, the terminal device transmits, at least one report comprising at least one feedback quantity associated with the at least one determined subset of RS ports.

[0103] In some embodiments, the terminal device may determine the at least one subset of RS ports by: selecting, based on the first indication, the at least one group of RS ports from the multiple groups of RS ports; selecting, based on the second indication, the at least one RS ports within the at least one selected group of RS ports; and determining, based on the selected RS ports, the at least one subset of RS ports.

[0104] In some embodiments, the terminal device may determine, based on the at least one determined subset of RS ports and the at least one sub-configuration, the at least one feedback quantity. In some embodiments, the terminal device may determine, based on the grouping information, a number of the multiple groups of RS ports and a size of a group of RS ports.

[0105] In some embodiments, the grouping information, the first indication and the second indication are comprised in configuration information associated with the at least one sub-configuration. In some embodiments, the terminal device may receive the grouping information, the first indication, and the second indication by receiving, from the network device, the configuration information comprising the grouping information, the first indication and the second indication.

[0106] In some embodiments, the grouping information, the first indication and the second indication for one polarization of two polarizations are the same as those for the other polarization of the two polarizations. In some embodiments, the grouping information, the first indication and the second indication are for a first polarization of two polarizations, and the terminal device may further divide a total number of RS ports into two parts; determine, based on the first indication and the second indication, the at least one subset of RS ports for a first part of the two parts; and determine, based on the determined at least one subset of RS ports for the first part, RS ports for a second part of the two parts.

[0107] In some embodiments, the terminal device may further receive, via at least one of a medium access control element (MAC-CE) or downlink control information (DCI) , updated grouping information, an updated first indication, an updated second indication, or combination thereof.

[0108] In some embodiments, a first sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration comprises aggregation of at least two subsets of RS ports; and a subset of RS ports of the at least two subsets of RS ports correspond to another sub-configuration different from the first sub-configuration.

[0109] In some embodiments, the terminal device may to determine the at least one subset of RS ports associated with at least one sub-configuration for reporting by determining, based on the first indication and the second indication, a first subset of RS ports for a first sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration; and determining, based on the first indication and the second indication, a second subset of RS ports for a second sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration.

[0110] In some embodiments, a third sub-configuration of the at least one sub-configuration comprises aggregation of the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports, and the terminal device may further receive, second configuration information on the third sub-configuration. In some embodiments, the second configuration information comprises information indicative of identities of the first sub-configuration and the second sub-configuration; information indicative of the first subset of RS ports and the second subset of RS ports; or combination thereof.
