[0061] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , or a 6G core (6GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as registration management, mobility management, connection management, access authentication / authorization, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0062] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0063] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0064] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0065] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0066] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0067] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0068] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0069] The concept of area-specific SI was introduced in 5G new radio (NR) to avoid unnecessary or duplicated SI acquiring across cells and therefore the signaling overhead and energy consumption are reduced. In legacy 5G NR, any SIB except SIB1 or any positioning SIB (posSIB) can be configured to be cell-specific or area-specific, using an indication in SIB1. As used hereinafter, unless explicitly specified, SIB may be used to refer to both SIB and posSIB for simplicity. The cell-specific SIB is applicable only within a cell that provides the SIB while the area-specific SIB (configured with areaScope) is applicable within an area referred to as SI area, which consists of one or several cells and is identified by an SI area ID (systemInformationAreaID) . The systemInformationAreaID is in SI-SchedulingInfo IE as a 24-bit string, indicating the system information area that the cell belongs to. FIG. 1B illustrates the SI-SchedulingInfo IE in 5G NR. Any SIB with areaScope within the SI is considered to belong to this systemInformationAreaID. The systemInformationAreaID is unique within a public land mobile network (PLMN) . If the first PLMN-Identity, the systemInformationAreaID and the valueTag that are included in the SI-SchedulingInfo for the SIB received from the serving cell are identical to the these associated with the stored version of that SIB, UE shall consider the stored SIB as valid for the cell.

[0070] In 5G NR, an area-specific SIB may be considered as entirely area-specific wherein the area is mapped to one or several cells.

[0071] The non-terrestrial network (NTN) refers to a network, or segment of networks using radio frequency (RF) resources on board a satellite or a high altitude platform station (HAPS) , providing 4G / 5G access using LTE / NR protocols. As used herein, a satellite in NTN may be a geostationary earth orbiting (GEO) satellite with a fixed location to the Earth, or a low earth orbiting (LEO) satellite orbiting around the Earth, or a HAPS including Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or balloon. It is expected that the NTN will be further enhanced and will also be supported in future 6G networks with further integration to the terrestrial network (TN) .

[0072] When NTN is considered in 6G toward unified TN and NTN designs, more issues and solutions should be considered for NTN-TN deployment scenarios as well as the coverage characteristics. For example, the NTN cell coverage is expected to be (much) larger than TN cells, making it possible that the area for area-based SIB only covers partial of a cell instead of one or several cells as defined in legacy 5G NR. Moreover, an NTN cell formed by multiple satellite beams may have an irregular shape based on satellite beam scheduling and implementation. In addition, the NTN cell coverage may vary over time, making it possible that the area for area-based SIB changes over time. For different types of NTN cells, the change pattern could be different, e.g., area appearance and disappearance in quasi-Earth-fixed cells, area movement in Earth-moving cells, and partial area change in multi-beam cells. Furthermore, the coverage of 6G NTN cells is expected not only for terrestrial UEs but also aerial UEs including UAVs and airplanes, making it possible that the area for area-based SIB changes over absolute or relative altitude (i.e., 3D coverage) . Also, some principles for 6G system information design may include energy efficiency, low complexity, flexibility and extensibility, SI update improvement and public warning system (PWS) . These principles apply for both TN and NTN designs, while NTN has some specific requirements and implement options e.g., energy efficiency is vital for NTN payloads and can be improved by appreciate satellite beam scheduling.

[0073] In view of the above, with considerations on some new characteristics brought by NTN coverage, overlap TN-NTN coverage and unified TN-NTN designs, enhancements on area-specific SI for 6G integrated NTN and TN are needed, in particular in the following aspects.

[0074] The first aspect relates to how to design the area-specific SI in 6G with TN-NTN deployment.

[0075] In 5G NR, if a SIB is configured with a flag indication areaScope, the entire SIB is considered as area-specific, wherein the area is mapped to one or several cells. For each cell, there can only be one area ID. In other words, an area-specific SIB in NR is defined as entirely area-specific (areaScope is associated to a SIB) which covers multiple cells.

[0076] From the perspective of signaling structure design, such principle can either be inherited or changed, along with the concept of delta configuration to optimize SI signaling for overhead reduction and energy efficiency at both network and UE sides. In 6G (especially NTN) , the area could be part of a cell, and a SIB can therefore be entirely or partially area-specific. For example, the cell-specific SIB can include all the possible NTN neighbour cell frequencies that UE measures for cell reselection, while an area-specific SIB or the area-specific part of a SIB can include the frequencies of TN neighbour cells that are close to the associated area.

[0077] The second aspect relates to how to define the area for area-specific SI in 6G with TN-NTN deployment.

[0078] In 5G NR, the area-specific SI is mapped to one or several cells, identified by a bit string systemInformationAreaID and enabled by a flag indication areaScope in SI-SchedulingInfo of SIB1 and posSIB.

[0079] To support area-specific SI in 6G, it shall be re-considered about how to define the area for area-specific SI, and how to make UE aware of area-specific SI especially when the area is part of the cell coverage and cannot be mapped to the entire cell.

[0080] The third aspect relates to how to indicate the status or status change of the area and area-specific SI.

[0081] In 5G NR for TN, the area of area-specific SI is assumed to be fixed and mapped at cell level. From NTN perspective, the area could be mobile (e.g., moving with the Earth-moving cell or beam) , or the area is fixed but its mapped cell (s)  / beam (s) is mobile. It is beneficial that the UE can be made aware of the variation of the area or its mapping relation for timely acquiring valid SIB (s) . FIG. 1C through 1F illustrate examples of area movement or area mapping change for area-specific system information associated with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0082] In some examples, an area is associated with at least one satellite beam and moves with the at least one satellite beam. For example, as shown in FIG. 1C, Area#1 is a part of a satellite cell, and is associated with Beam#1 and Beam#2. From the time instance T1 to time instance T2, the satellite moves, and Area#1 moves with the movement of Beam#1 and Beam#2.

[0083] Alternatively, an area is associated with a geographical region and its mapping to satellite beams changes as the satellite beams move. For examples, as shown in FIG. 1D, Area#1 is associated with a specific geographical region. At time instance T1, Area#1 is mapped to Beam#1 and Beam#2. The satellite beams move with the satellite movement, and the area-to-beam mapping changes. At time instance T2, Area#1 is mapped to different beams and Area#2 is mapped to Beam#1 and Beam#2.

[0084] In some examples, for the 3D coverage serving UEs at a wide range of altitudes, based on network scheduling, the area of area-specific SI is associated with altitude may vary at different altitudes. For example, as shown in FIG. 1E, Area#1 is associated with the altitude and varies when the altitude changes from height H1 to height H2.

[0085] Alternatively, for the 3D coverage serving UEs at a wide range of altitudes, based on network scheduling, the area remains the same for all altitudes, but its mapped cell (s)  / beam (s) is different at different altitudes. For example, as shown in FIG. 1F, Area#1 is associated with a specific geographical region, and its mapping to satellite beams may change when the altitude changes from height H1 to height H2.

[0086] Thus, solutions for indicating the status or status change of the area and area-specific SI are needed.

[0087] The fourth aspect relates to how to handle / update the area information or SIB content for area-specific SI. Depending on the SIB granularity and area representation designs of area-specific SI for 6G, the handling of area-specific SI at UE may be different from that in 5G NR.

[0088] In 5G NR, the update of the area-specific SI can be implemented by: (a) indicating SI change notification in paging (reacquiring MIB, SIB1 and the corresponding SIB with valueTag changed) ; (b) changing systemInformationAreaID (reacquiring all area-specific SIBs with areaScope = true) ; or (c) changing valueTag in the SIB1 (reacquiring the corresponding SIB with valueTag changed) .

[0089] The options (a) and (b) may result in unnecessary SIB acquiring that may not change, while the option (c) may not work for some SIBs e.g., change of ephemeris in SIB19 for NTN might not trigger valueTag change. Thus, solutions for handling / updating the area information or SIB content for area-specific SI are needed.

[0090] In view of the above, some embodiments of the present disclosure propose a solution for area-specific system information. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, a UE receives, from a base station, a configuration for area-specific system information. The configuration for area-specific system information may include at least one of the following: geographical information indicating at least one geographical area as at least one area, at least one parameter indicating at least one part of a cell as at least one area, or at least one status indication of at least one area. In other words, the configuration for area-specific system information may indicate area (s) for the area-specific system information and / or area status indication (s) of the area-specific system information. In this way, enhancements to support area-specific SI are designed.

[0091] As used herein, a BS may be implemented as a gNB or a 6G BS in an NTN scenario or other scenarios. As used herein, “UE-BS-UE communication” may be implemented as UE-satellite-UE communication in NTN scenario or other UE-BS-UE communication depending on the BS architecture. It is also to be understood that the terms used herein are terminologies in 5G NR systems, and may be interchangeably used with other terminologies (but with same or similar functions) that might be used in future wireless communication system such as 6G.

[0092] FIG. 2 illustrates an example signalling procedure 200 supporting area-specific system information in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200 may involve the UE 104 and the base station 102. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that process 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0093] In the process 200, the bases station 102 determines (202) a configuration 206 for area-specific system information. In some examples, the configuration 206 for area-specific system information may include geographical information indicating at least one geographical area as at least one area. For example, the area (s) for area-specific system information may be indicated by dedicated geographical information. Alternatively, the configuration 206 for area-specific system information may include at least one parameter indicating at least one part of a cell as at least one area. For example, the area (s) for area-specific system information may be indicated by geographical parameter (s) that can represent part (s) of the cell. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration 206 for area-specific system information may include at least one status indication of at least one area. For example, the network may indicate the area status of the area-specific system information to the UE.

[0094] The base station 102 transmits (204) the configuration 206 to the UE 104. Accordingly, the UE 104 receives (208) the configuration 206 from the UE 104 and determines (210) handling of the area-specific system information based on the configuration 206.

[0095] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 includes the geographical information indicating at least one geographical area as the at least one area of the area-specific system information. In some example embodiments, the geographical information may include circle parameters indicating at least one circle geographical area. The circle parameters may include respective center parameters and respective radius parameters of the at least one circle geographical area. Alternatively or additionally, the geographical information may include polygon parameters indicating at least one polygon geographical area. The polygon parameters may include a plurality of respective coordinates of the at least one polygon geographical area. Alternatively or additionally, the geographical information may include zone-based parameters indicating at least one zone geographical area. The zone-based parameters may include respective length parameters and respective width parameters of the at least one zone geographical area. For example, the area (s) of of the area-specific system information may be represented by dedicated geographical information, and the dedicated geographical information may include at least one of circle parameters (center and radius) , polygon parameters (multiple coordinates) , or zone-based parameter (zone length, width etc. ) .

[0096] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 includes at least one parameter indicating at least one part of a cell as the at least one area of the area-specific system information. In some example embodiments, the at least one parameter may include respective beam configuration s of at least one beam among a plurality of beams of the cell. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one parameter may include respective beam identities of at least one beam among a plurality of beams of the cell. For example, the area (s) of of the area-specific system information may be mapped to satellite beam (e.g., indicated by beam identity or beam configuration) or cell beam (e.g., indicated by SSB index) , that can represent part (s) of the cell. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one parameter may include at least one angle threshold. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one parameter may include at least one propagation delay threshold. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one parameter may include at least one round trip time (RTT) threshold. For example, the area (s) of of the area-specific system information may be indicated by angle (s) (e.g., horizon angle, elevation angle) , or propagation delay or RTT. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one parameter may include at least one geographical parameter configured for a communication procedure. For example, the area (s) of of the area-specific system information may be indicated by geographical information indicated for other purposes (e.g., cell reselection, measurement reporting, conditional handover (CHO) , SSB-based measurement timing configuration (SMTC) selection, multicast and broadcast services (MBS) broadcast, or TN frequency skipping) .

[0097] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, solutions for area representations for area-specific system information are designed.

[0098] In some embodiments, the area-specific system information may include one or more area-specific SIBs. For example, one or multiple SIBs belonging to the same SI may be area-specific. In some examples, all area-specific SIBs belonging to the same SI may be associated with the same area. Alternatively, each area-specific SIB may be associated with a specific area.

[0099] Alternatively or additionally, the area-specific system information may include one or more area-specific system information parameters in at least one SIB. For example, a SIB may be partially area-specific. One or multiple SI parameter (s) in a partially area-specific SIB may be area-specific. In some examples, all SI parameter (s) in a partially area-specific SIB may be associated with the same area. Alternatively, each SI parameter in a partially area-specific SIB may be associated with a specific area.

[0100] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 for the area-specific system information may be associated with SIB scheduling information in SIB1. For example, dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that can represent part of the cell may be associated with the SIB scheduling information. For example, all area-specific SIBs may be associated to the same area.

[0101] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 for the area-specific system information may be associated with a system information area identity (ID) . For example, dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that can represent part of the cell may replace or may be associated with the SI area ID field (systemInformationAreaID) . In this option, all area-specific SIBs are associated to the same area.

[0102] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 for the area-specific system information may be associated with one or more flag indications for one or more area-specific SIBs. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration 206 for the area-specific system information may be associated with one or more value tags for one or more area-specific SIBs. For example, dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that can represent part of the cell may be associate with a specific SIB, e.g., to replace or to associate with the area-specific SIB flag indication (areaScope) or value tag. In this option, each area-specific SIB may be associated with a specific area.

[0103] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 for the area-specific system information may be associated with the one or more area-specific system information parameters in the at least one SIB. For example, one or multiple SI parameter (s) in an area-specific SIB may be associated to dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that can represent part of the cell.

[0104] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, solutions for area association for area-specific system information are designed.

[0105] In some embodiments, the area-specific system information may include one or more area-specific SIBs. For example, one or multiple SIBs belonging to the same SI may be entirely area-specific and may be associated to the same area (e.g., areaScope is still associated to a SIB) .

[0106] In some example embodiments, an area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs may be an independent configuration independent from other area-specific SIBs among the one or more area-specific SIBs. For example, an entirely area-specific SIB may be an independent configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SIB that may belong to the same SI or not.

[0107] In some alternative example embodiments, an area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs may be a delta configuration to at least one area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs or at least one non-area-specific SIB. For example, an entirely area-specific SIB may be a delta configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SIB that may belong to the same SI or not, e.g., when the area of the area-specific SIB is mapped to part of the coverage of a cell or a beam.

[0108] In some alternative example embodiments, an area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs may be a reference configuration to at least one area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs or at least one non-area-specific SIB. For example, an entirely area-specific SIB may be a reference configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SIB that may belong to the same SI or not, e.g., when the area of the area-specific SIB is mapped to the coverage of multiple cells or beams.

[0109] In some alternative embodiments, the area-specific system information may include one or more area-specific SIB parameters. For example, a SIB may be partially area-specific (e.g., areaScope is associated to part of a SIB, e.g., SI parameters) , and there could be multiple entries in the SIB for multiple areas.

[0110] In some example embodiments, an area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters may be an independent configuration independent from other area-specific SIB parameters among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters. For example, an area-specific SI parameter of the partially area-specific SIB may be an independent configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific parameter that may belong to the same SIB or not.

[0111] In some alternative example embodiments, an area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters may be a delta configuration to at least one area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters or at least one non-area-specific SIB parameter. For example, an area-specific SI parameter of the partially area-specific SIB may be a delta configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SI parameter of the SIB, e.g., when the area of the area-specific SI parameter is mapped to part of the coverage of a cell or a beam.

[0112] In some alternative example embodiments, an area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters may be a reference configuration to at least one area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters or at least one non-area-specific SIB parameter. For example, an area-specific SI parameter of the partially area-specific SIB may be a reference configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SI parameter of the SIB, e.g., when the area of the area-specific SI parameter is mapped to the coverage of multiple cells or beams.

[0113] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, the design the area-specific SI in 6G with TN-NTN deployment may be based on an area-specific SIB granularity or an area-specific SIB parameter granularity.

[0114] In some embodiments, the configuration 206 includes at least one status indication of at least one area of the area-specific system information. In some example embodiments, the at least one status indication may include respective validity durations of the at least one area for the area-specific system information. For example, the respective duration of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may indicate when the area-specific SIB or SI parameter expires or the time that UE can skip to reacquire the corresponding area-specific SIB or SI parameter. In some examples, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the validity duration of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring. That is, if the validity duration of the area for a reference SIB or a reference SI parameter in reference SIB expires, the UE (re) acquires the reference SIB or reference SI parameter in reference SIB, and the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB even if the validity duration of the area for the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB has not expired.

[0115] Alternatively or additionally, the at least one status indication may include respective expected update times of the at least one area for the area-specific system information. For example, the respective expected update time of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may indicate when the update to the area-specific SIB or SI parameter is expected or the time that UE shall attempt to update the corresponding area-specific SIB or SI parameter. In some examples, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the expected update time of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for updating. That is, if the expected update time of the area for a reference SIB or a reference SI parameter in reference SIB is reached, the UE updates the reference SIB or reference SI parameter in reference SIB, and the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB even if the expected update time of the area for the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB has not been reached.

[0116] Alternatively or additionally, the at least one status indication may include respective movements of the at least one area for the area-specific system information. For example, the respective movement of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may indicate the velocity and direction of the area for area-specific SIB or SI parameter. In some examples, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the movement of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring. That is, if the movement results in the change of the area for a reference SIB or a reference SI parameter in reference SIB, the UE (re) acquires the reference SIB or reference SI parameter in reference SIB, and the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB even if the area for the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB has not changed.

[0117] Alternatively or additionally, the at least one status indication may include respective mapping changes between the at least one area and the area-specific system information. For example, the respective SIB mapping change of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may indicate the expected change of the mapping between area-specific SIB or SI parameter and its associated area. In some examples, the area information may include time information indicating when the SIB mapping of the area changes. In some examples, the area information may include a mapping relationship of SIB mapping of the area for different time. For example, a list may be configured, indicating that the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is mapped to Beam#1 at T1 and is mapped to Beam#2 at T2. In some examples, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the SIB mapping change of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring. That is, if SIB mapping of the area for a reference SIB or a reference SI parameter in reference SIB changes, the UE (re) acquires the reference SIB or reference SI parameter in reference SIB, and the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB even if SIB mapping of the area for the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB has not changed.

[0118] Alternatively or additionally, the at least one status indication may include respective applicable height levels or height ranges of the area-specific system information for the at least one area. For example, the respective height / altitude or height / altitude range for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may indicate the applicable height / altitude of the area or the mapped height / altitude of the area-specific SIB or SI parameter. In some examples, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the height / altitude or height / altitude range of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB. If the height / altitude or height / altitude range of the area for a reference SIB or a reference SI parameter in reference SIB changes, the UE (re) acquires the reference SIB or reference SI parameter in reference SIB, and the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB even if the height / altitude or height / altitude range of the area for the delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB has not changed.

[0119] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, the area status of the area-specific SI may be indicated to the UE, thus reflecting variations of the area for area-specific SI in NTN. In some examples, the area information, including the SI area ID (systemInformationAreaID) , area-specific SIB flag indication (areaScope) or the dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that can represent part of the cell, can be further associated with or be configured together with the area status indication.

[0120] In some embodiments, the handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include deriving a full content of the area-specific system information. In some embodiments, the handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include determining at least a portion of stored area-specific system information as valid. In some embodiments, the handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include requesting at least a portion of the area-specific system information. For example, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102, a request for the at least a portion of the area-specific system information. The request may include area information, and may be carried in a SIB request message or an on-demand system information request message. In some embodiments, the handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include acquiring at least a portion of the area-specific system information. In some embodiments, the handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include updating at least a portion of stored area-specific system information. In some embodiments, the handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include discarding at least a portion of stored area-specific system information.

[0121] In some example embodiments, the area-specific system information may include one or more area-specific SIBs. The handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration comprises deriving a full content of an area-specific SIB. In some examples, an area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs may be an independent configuration, and the full content of the area-specific SIB may be derived based on the independent configuration. In some alternative examples, an area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs may be a delta configuration, and the full content of the area-specific SIB may be derived based on the delta configuration and a reference configuration for the delta configuration. In some alternative examples, an area-specific SIB among the one or more area-specific SIBs may be a reference configuration, and the full content of the area-specific SIB may be derived based on the reference configuration and a delta configuration associated with the reference configuration. For example, to acquire an entirely area-specific SIB, UE may derive the full configuration based on the area-specific SIB as delta / reference configuration and its corresponding SIB as reference / delta configuration.

[0122] In some alternative example embodiments, the area-specific system information may include one or more area-specific SIB parameters. The handling of the area-specific system information determined based on the configuration 206 may include deriving a full content of the area-specific SIB parameter. In some examples, an area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters may be an independent configuration, and the full content of the area-specific SIB parameter may be derived based on at least one area-specific entry in the independent configuration. In some alternative examples, an area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters may be a delta configuration, and the full content of the area-specific SIB parameter may be derived based on at least one area-specific entry in the delta configuration and a reference configuration for the delta configuration. In some alternative examples, an area-specific SIB parameter among the one or more area-specific SIB parameters may be a reference, and the full content of the area-specific SIB parameter may be derived based on at least one area-specific entry in the reference configuration and a delta configuration associated with the reference configuration. For example, when UE acquires a partially area-specific SIB, it may derive the full configuration by selecting the right area-specific entry as delta / reference configuration and taking the non-area-specific part of the SIB as reference / delta configuration.

[0123] In some example embodiments, the configuration 206 may include at least one of the geographical information indicating the at least one geographical area or the at least one parameter indicating the at least one part of the cell. In some examples, the area-specific system information may include a set of area-specific SIBs, the at least one area may include one area, and the set of area-specific SIBs are associated with the one area. In other words, all area-specific SIBs are associated to the same area. In some alternative examples, the area-specific system information may include respective SIBs associated with the at least one area. For example, each area-specific SIB may be associated with a specific area. In some alternative examples, the area-specific system information may include respective system information parameters associated with the at least one area. For example, each area-specific SI parameter may be associated with a specific area.

[0124] In some examples, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is within the at least one area. For example, the UE 104 may determine whether the UE 104 is within the at least one area based on a movement of the UE 104 and / or a change of a value tag associated with the at least one area.

[0125] Alternatively or additionally, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the area-specific system information is stored.

[0126] Alternatively or additionally, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the at least one parameter indicating at least one part of a cell as at least one area is applied or fulfilled. For example, the UE 104 may determine whether the at least one parameter is applied or fulfilled based on at least one of the following: whether respective beam configuration s of at least one beam among a plurality of beams of the cell are selected; whether respective beam identities of at least one beam among a plurality of beams of the cell are selected; whether at least one angle between the UE 104 and the base station 102 is within at least one angle threshold; whether a propagation delay between the UE 104 and the base station 102 is within at least one propagation delay threshold; whether a round trip time between the UE 104 and the base station 102 is within at least one round trip time threshold; whether the UE 104 is within an area identified by at least one geographical parameter configured for a communication procedure.

[0127] For example, when UE is within an area associated to an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0128] When UE applies or fulfills the geographical parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell associated to an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one. The following cases are included when UE applies or fulfills the geographical parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell: UE selects the associated satellite beam (e.g., a beam identity or a beam configuration) or cell beam (SSB index) ; UE’s horizon and / or elevation angle to the RAN node (e.g., NTN payload) is within threshold; UE’s propagation delay or RTT to the RAN node (e.g., NTN payload) is within threshold; or UE is in an area identified by geographical information indicated for other purposes (e.g., cell reselection, measurement reporting, CHO, SMTC selection, MBS broadcast or TN frequency skipping) .

[0129] If all area-specific SIBs are associated to the same area, the UE releases all area-specific SIBs associated to an area when it leaves that area, and acquires all area-specific SIBs associated to an area when it enters that area. In this case, UE may be configured with multiple areas, and UE may determine when to check the area it is in based on its movement (e.g., RSRP variation) or check the change of value tag that is associated to the area.

[0130] If each area-specific SIB is associated with a specific area, the UE releases an area-specific SIB associated to an area when it leaves that area, and acquires an area-specific SIB associated to an area when it enters that area. In this case, UE may be configured with multiple areas, and UE may determine when to check the area (s) it is in based on its movement (e.g., RSRP variation) or check the change of value tag (s) that is associated to the area (s) .

[0131] If each area-specific SI parameter is associated with a specific area, the UE releases an area-specific SI parameter associated to an area when it leaves that area, and acquires an area-specific SI parameter associated to an area when it enters that area. In this case, UE may be configured with multiple areas, and UE may determine when to check the area (s) it is in based on its movement (e.g., RSRP variation) or check the change of value tag (s) that is associated to the area (s) .

[0132] If a request is triggered, the UE may include the request with area information in dedicated SIB request or on-demand SI request message.

[0133] Alternatively or additionally, the configuration 206 may include the at least one status indication of the at least one area. In some examples, the area-specific system information may include a set of area-specific SIBs, the at least one area may include one area, and the set of area-specific SIBs are associated with the one area. In some alternative examples, the area-specific system information may include respective SIBs associated with the at least one area. In some alternative examples, the area-specific system information may include respective system information parameters associated with the at least one area.

[0134] In some examples, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether respective validity durations of the at least one area for the area-specific system information have not been reached. Alternatively or additionally, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether respective expected update times of the at least one area for the area-specific system information have not been reached. For example, when the validity duration or update time of an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB has not been reached, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0135] Alternatively or additionally, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is within respective areas determined based on respective movements of the at least one area for the area-specific system information. Alternatively or additionally, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is within respective areas determined based on respective mapping changes between the at least one area and the area-specific system information. For example, when UE is in the area derived from area movement information or SIB mapping change information, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0136] Alternatively or additionally, the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is at respective applicable height levels or height ranges of the area-specific system information for the at least one area. For example, when UE is at the height / altitude or within the height / altitude range of an area-specific SIB, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter and acquires a new one, or the UE keeps the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter for a predefined time duration and acquires a new one.

[0137] In some examples, the area-specific system information may include at least one delta configuration, and the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether respective validity durations of respective reference configurations for the at least one delta configuration have not been reached. For example, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the validity duration of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring.

[0138] Alternatively or additionally, the area-specific system information may include at least one delta configuration, and the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether respective expected update times of respective reference configurations for the at least one delta configuration have not been reached. For example, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the expected update time of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for updating.

[0139] Alternatively or additionally, the area-specific system information may include at least one delta configuration, and the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is within respective areas determined based on respective movements of respective areas for respective reference configurations for the at least one delta configuration. For example, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the movement of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring.

[0140] Alternatively or additionally, the area-specific system information may include at least one delta configuration, and the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is within respective areas determined based on respective mapping changes between respective areas and respective reference configurations for the at least one delta configuration. For example, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the SIB mapping change of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring.

[0141] Alternatively or additionally, the area-specific system information may include at least one delta configuration, and the handling of the area-specific system information may be determined based on whether the UE 104 is at respective applicable height levels or height ranges of respective reference configurations for the at least one delta configuration. For example, if the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the height / altitude or height / altitude range of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB.

[0142] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, UE behaviours for acquiring / updating / discarding area-specific SI are designed.

[0143] Hereinbefore, some embodiments of area-specific system information are described in general terms. Hereinafter, some implementations of area-specific system information will be further detailed in regard to various specific cases.

[0144] FIG. 3 illustrates an example implementation of a procedure 300 supporting area-specific system information in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The procedure300 in FIG. 3 may be regarded as a specific example of the procedure 200 shown in FIG. 2. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 3 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that procedure in FIG. 3 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0145] As shown in FIG. 3, at step 302, the UE 104 receives area information for area-specific SI from the base station 102. In some examples, the area information for area-specific SI may include at least one dedicated geographical information. For example, the dedicated geographical information may include at least at least one of the following: circle parameters (center and radius) ; polygon parameters (multiple coordinates) ; or zone-based parameter (zone length, width) . In some alternative examples, the area information for area-specific SI may include at least one parameter representing part of the cell. For example, the geographical parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell may include at least at least one of the following: satellite beam (beam identity or beam configuration) or cell beam (SSB index) ; angle (horizon and elevation) ; propagation delay or RTT; geographical information indicated for other purposes (e.g., cell reselection, measurement reporting, CHO, SMTC selection, MBS broadcast or TN frequency skipping) . Alternatively or additionally, the area information for area-specific SI may include at least one area status indication.

[0146] At step 304, the UE performs handling (e.g., acquiring / updating / discarding) of the area-specific SI based on the received area information.

[0147] In a first embodiment, the area information for are-specific SI is associated to SIB scheduling information in SIB1. For example, the SIB scheduling information in SIB1 may be associated to at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell, e.g., by replacing the SI area ID (systemInformationAreaID) . All area-specific SIBs are associated to the same area represented by the at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) . FIG. 4A illustrates an example of a SI-SchedulingInfo IE associated with aspects of the present disclosure. In the example shown in FIG. 4A, the systemInformationAreaID field is replaced by dedicated geographical information, indicating the area for all area-specific SIBs.

[0148] In a second embodiment, the area information for are-specific SI is associated to at least one SIB. For example, at least one SIB may be associated to at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell, e.g., by replacing the area-specific SIB flag indication (areaScope) or value tag (valueTag) . Each area-specific SIB may be associated with at least one specific area represented by the at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) . FIG. 4B illustrates another example of a SI-SchedulingInfo IE associated with aspects of the present disclosure. In the example shown in FIG. 4A, the areaScope field is replaced by dedicated geographical information, indicating the area for each area-specific SIB.

[0149] In a third embodiment, the area information for are-specific SI is associated to SI area ID (systemInformationAreaID) or at least one area-specific SIB flag indication (areaScope) or at least one value tag (valueTag) . For example, SI area ID (systemInformationAreaID) or at least one area-specific SIB flag indication (areaScope) or at least one value tag (valueTag) may be associated to at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell. Depending on the association, all area-specific SIBs are associated to the same area represented by the at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) when SI area ID (systemInformationAreaID) is associated, or each area-specific SIB may be associated with at least one specific area represented by the at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) when area-specific SIB flag indication (areaScope) is associated.

[0150] In a fourth embodiment, the area information for are-specific SI is associated to at least one SI parameter (s) in an area-specific SIB. For example, at least one SI parameter (s) in an area-specific SIB may be associated to dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell. Each area-specific SI parameter in the SIB may be associated with at least one specific area represented by the at least one dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) .

[0151] In a fifth embodiment, one or multiple SIBs belonging to the same SI are entirely area-specific and are associated to the same area. In some examples, an entirely area-specific SIB may be an independent configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SIB that may belong to the same SI or not. In some alternative examples, an entirely area-specific SIB may be a delta configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SIB e.g., when its area is mapped to part of the coverage of a cell or a beam. In some alternative examples, an entirely area-specific SIB may be a reference configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SIB e.g., when its area is mapped to the coverage of multiple cells or beams. When UE acquires an entirely area-specific SIB, it may derive the full configuration based on the area-specific SIB as delta / reference configuration and its corresponding SIB as reference / delta.

[0152] In a sixth embodiment, a SIB may be partially area-specific, and there could be multiple entries in the SIB for multiple areas. In some examples, an area-specific SI parameter of the SIB may be an independent configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific parameter that may belong to the same SIB or not. In some alternative examples, an area-specific SI parameter of the SIB may be a delta configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SI parameter of the SIB e.g., when its area is mapped to part of the coverage of a cell or a beam. In some alternative examples, an area-specific SI parameter of the SIB may be a reference configuration to another area-specific or cell-specific SI parameter of the SIB e.g., when its area is mapped to the coverage of multiple cells or beams. When UE acquires a partially area-specific SIB, it may derive the full configuration by selecting the right area-specific entry as delta / reference configuration and taking the non-area-specific part of the SIB as reference / delta.

[0153] In a seventh embodiment, the area information for an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may be associated with or be configured together with its status indication. In some examples, the area status indication may include a validity duration of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, which indicates when the area-specific SIB or SI parameter expires or the time that UE may skip to reacquire the corresponding area-specific SIB or SI parameter. Alternatively or additionally, the area status indication may include an expected update time of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, which indicates when the update to the area-specific SIB or SI parameter is expected or the time that UE shall attempt to reacquire the corresponding area-specific SIB or SI parameter. Alternatively or additionally, the area status indication may include a movement of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, which indicates the velocity and direction of the area for area-specific SIB or SI parameter. Alternatively or additionally, the area status indication may include a SIB mapping change of the area for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, which indicates the expected change of the mapping between area-specific SIB or SI parameter and its associated area. Alternatively or additionally, the area status indication may include a height / altitude or height / altitude range for at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, which indicates the applicable height / altitude of the area or the mapped height / altitude of the area-specific SIB or SI parameter.

[0154] In some examples, the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB may be a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference. The UE shall refer to the validity duration, expected update time, movement, SIB mapping or height / altitude of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring, even if for the area for delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB, the validity duration has not expired, or the expected update time has not reached, or the movement has not resulted in area change, or the SIB mapping has not changed, or the height / altitude has not changed.

[0155] In a seventh embodiment, the area-specific SI handling (e.g., acquiring, updating or discarding) is based on geographical information. At least one of the following conditions may be specified for UE to acquire, update or discard area-specific SI.

[0156] When UE is within an area associated to an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0157] If all area-specific SIBs are associated to the same area, the UE releases all area-specific SIBs associated to an area when it leaves that area, and acquires all area-specific SIBs associated to an area when it enters that area. In this case UE may be configured with multiple areas, and UE may determine when to check the area it is in based on its movement (e.g., RSRP variation) or check the change of value tag that is associated to the area.

[0158] If each area-specific SIB may be associated with a specific area, the UE releases an area-specific SIB associated to an area when it leaves that area, and acquires an area-specific SIBs associated to an area when it enters that area. In this case UE may be configured with multiple areas, and UE may determine when to check the area (s) it is in based on its movement (e.g., RSRP variation) or check the change of value tag (s) that is associated to the area (s) .

[0159] When UE applies or fulfills the geographical parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell associated to an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one. At least one of the following cases may be included when UE applies or fulfills the geographical parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell: UE selects the associated satellite beam (beam identity) or cell beam (SSB index) ; UE’s horizon and / or elevation angle to the RAN node (e.g., NTN payload) is within threshold; UE’s propagation delay or RTT to the RAN node (e.g., NTN payload) is within threshold; UE is in an area identified by geographical information indicated for other purposes (e.g., cell reselection, measurement reporting, CHO, SMTC selection, MBS broadcast or TN frequency skipping) .

[0160] For example, at step 304A, an area-specific SI request may be triggered based on dedicated geographical information or parameter (s) that may represent part of the cell. If a request is triggered, the UE may include the request with area information in dedicated SIB request or on-demand SI request message.

[0161] In a ninth embodiment, the area-specific SI handling (e.g., acquiring, updating or discarding) is based on area status information. At least one of the following conditions may be specified for UE to acquire, update or discard area-specific SI.

[0162] When the validity duration or update time of an area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter in a SIB has not been reached, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0163] When UE is in the area derived from area movement information or SIB mapping change information, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0164] When UE is at the height / altitude or within the height / altitude range of an area-specific SIB, UE considers the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter as valid, or triggers area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter request if not stored. Otherwise, UE discards the stored area-specific SIB or area-specific SI parameter, and acquires a new one.

[0165] In case when the at least one area-specific SIB or at least one area-specific SI parameter in a SIB is a delta configuration to another SIB or another SI parameter in another SIB as reference, the UE shall refer to the validity duration, expected update time, movement, SIB mapping or height / altitude of the area for its reference SIB or its reference SI parameter in reference SIB for (re) acquiring, even if for the area for delta SIB or delta SI parameter in delta SIB, the validity duration has not expired, or the expected update time has not reached, or the movement has not resulted in area change, or the SIB mapping has not changed, or the height / altitude has not changed.

[0166] For example, at step 304A, an area-specific SI request may be triggered based on area status information. If a request is triggered, the UE may include the request with area information in dedicated SIB request or on-demand SI request message.

[0167] With some embodiments of the present disclosure, enhancements to support area-specific SI mechanism in 6G network is proposed, with particular considerations on integrated TN and NTN deployment. It should be understood that embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed independently or in combination.

[0168] FIG. 5 illustrates an example of a device 500 that supports area-specific system information in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 500 may be an example of a UE 104 or a base station 102 as described herein. The device 500 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 500 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 502, a memory 504, a transceiver 506, and, optionally, an I / O controller 508. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .

[0169] The processor 502, the memory 504, the transceiver 506, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. For example, the processor 502, the memory 504, the transceiver 506, or various combinations or components thereof may support a method for performing one or more of the operations described herein.

[0170] In some implementations, the processor 502, the memory 504, the transceiver 506, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in hardware (e.g., in communications management circuitry) . The hardware may include a processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, a discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof configured as or otherwise supporting a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure. In some implementations, the processor 502 and the memory 504 coupled with the processor 502 may be configured to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., executing, by the processor 502, instructions stored in the memory 504) .

[0171] For example, the processor 502 may support wireless communication at the device 500 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. The processor 502 may be configured to operable to support a means for receiving, from a base station, a configuration for area-specific system information, wherein the configuration comprises at least one of the following: geographical information indicating at least one geographical area as at least one area, at least one parameter indicating at least one part of a cell as at least one area, or at least one status indication of at least one area; and a means for determining handling of the area-specific system information based on the configuration.

[0172] In another example, the processor 502 may support wireless communication at the device 500 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. The processor 502 may be configured to operable to support a means for determining a configuration for area-specific system information, wherein the configuration comprises at least one of the following: geographical information indicating at least one geographical area as at least one area, at least one parameter indicating at least one part of a cell as at least one area, or at least one status indication of at least one area; and a means for transmitting, to a user equipment (UE) , the configuration for the area-specific system information.

[0173] The processor 502 may include an intelligent hardware device (e.g., a general-purpose processor, a DSP, a CPU, a microcontroller, an ASIC, an FPGA, a programmable logic device, a discrete gate or transistor logic component, a discrete hardware component, or any combination thereof) . In some implementations, the processor 502 may be configured to operate a memory array using a memory controller. In some other implementations, a memory controller may be integrated into the processor 502. The processor 502 may be configured to execute computer-readable instructions stored in a memory (e.g., the memory 504) to cause the device 500 to perform various functions of the present disclosure.

[0174] The memory 504 may include random access memory (RAM) and read-only memory (ROM) . The memory 504 may store computer-readable, computer-executable code including instructions that, when executed by the processor 502 cause the device 500 to perform various functions described herein. The code may be stored in a non-transitory computer-readable medium such as system memory or another type of memory. In some implementations, the code may not be directly executable by the processor 502 but may cause a computer (e.g., when compiled and executed) to perform functions described herein. In some implementations, the memory 504 may include, among other things, a basic I / O system (BIOS) which may control basic hardware or software operation such as the interaction with peripheral components or devices.

[0175] The I / O controller 508 may manage input and output signals for the device 500. The I / O controller 508 may also manage peripherals not integrated into the device M02. In some implementations, the I / O controller 508 may represent a physical connection or port to an external peripheral. In some implementations, the I / O controller 508 may utilize an operating system such as or another known operating system. In some implementations, the I / O controller 508 may be implemented as part of a processor, such as the processor 506. In some implementations, a user may interact with the device 500 via the I / O controller 508 or via hardware components controlled by the I / O controller 508.
