A plug valve

[0001] Citation of relevant applications

[0002] This application claims the full benefits of Chinese Patent Application No. 202520560357.9, filed on March 27, 2025 with the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China, entitled "A Plug Valve", the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field

[0003] This disclosure relates to the technical field of valve devices, and more particularly to a plug valve. Background Technology

[0004] The main drawbacks and shortcomings of existing plug valves are as follows: First, the existing plug valve uses a pure metal seal between the plug and the inner side of the sealing arc, and the sealing arc is always arc-shaped. To achieve a seal, high dimensional and shape accuracy is required, which is difficult and costly to manufacture, and the valve is prone to damage and failure. Second, the seal between the outer side of the sealing arc and the valve body is a metal + non-metal seal, facing the same problem. Third, since the existing plug, sealing arc, and valve body are all metal, a certain gap must be maintained between them for assembly, maintenance, and rotation. This can lead to sand accumulation inside the valve body during use, resulting in seal failure and even complete failure. Fourth, the arc and valve body are positioned by a cylindrical pin. During use, the rotation of the plug causes the arc to rotate, and the positioning pin often breaks due to shearing. Fifth, the product has many parts. The opening and closing of the plug valve, the limiting of the opening and closing position, and the filling of excess gaps in the internal cavity all require additional parts, resulting in a large number of parts and high manufacturing costs. Furthermore, the terms "comprising" and "having," and any variations thereof, are intended to cover non-exclusive inclusion; for example, a process, method, system, product, or apparatus that comprises a series of steps or units is not necessarily limited to those steps or units explicitly listed, but may include other steps or units not explicitly listed or inherent to such processes, methods, products, or apparatus.

[0042] This specification may use the phrases “in one embodiment,” “in another embodiment,” “in yet another embodiment,” or “in still another embodiment,” all of which may refer to one or more of the same or different embodiments according to this disclosure.

[0043] This disclosure provides a plug valve that can be used in conjunction with fracturing trucks, straight pipelines, tee fittings, etc. It is mainly used to transport high-pressure fluids such as fracturing fluid. The main function of the plug valve is to control the opening and closing of the fluid pipeline, thereby completing the production enhancement operation in the oil and gas field.

[0044] As shown in Figures 1-12, the plug valve includes a valve body 1, which has a flow channel through hole 11 extending from both ends. The flow channel through hole 11 extends along a first direction, and external fluid flows in from the first end 1a of the valve body 1 and flows out from the second end 1b of the valve body 1. A valve seat 2 is provided inside the valve body 1, for example, in the middle position of the valve body 1. A plug 3 is provided inside the valve seat 2, and the plug 3 is screwed into the valve seat 2 from a second direction and cooperates with the valve seat 2. Here, the second direction is perpendicular to the first direction. The plug 3 can rotate relative to the valve seat 2 along the axis of the second direction. The rotation of the plug 3 realizes the opening and closing of the fluid flow in the valve body 1.

[0045] Specifically, a valve seat hole 4 is provided inside the valve body 1. The valve seat hole 4 is located in the extension direction of the flow channel through hole 11, for example, in the middle position of the flow channel through hole 11. The valve seat 2 is disposed inside the valve seat hole 4. The diameter of the valve seat hole 4 is larger than the diameter of the flow channel through hole 11 so that the valve seat 2 can be stably disposed inside the valve body 1.

[0046] In this embodiment, the valve seat hole 4 is a recessed countersunk structure. The valve seat 2 can mate with the countersunk structure. Specifically, the bottom of the valve seat hole 4 has a recessed surface 41, which can be flat or curved. The outer surface of the valve seat 2 mates with the recessed surface 41 of the valve seat hole 4. Here, the position and movement of the valve seat 2 within the valve body 1 are restricted by the valve seat hole 4. When the valve seat 2 is installed in the valve seat hole 4, specifically, the recessed surface 41 of the valve seat hole 4 can restrict the movement of the valve seat 2 within the valve seat hole 4 and simultaneously achieve a seal between the valve seat 2 and the valve seat hole 4.

[0047] Furthermore, a first groove 42 is provided on the inner side of the valve seat hole 4. The first groove 42 is used to install the valve seat 2. In this embodiment, the valve seat 2 is stably disposed in the valve seat hole 4. For example, the valve seat 2 can be assembled in the valve seat hole 4 by a pulling tool with claws.

[0048] In this embodiment, the valve body 1 with the countersunk hole structure facilitates the interaction between the valve body 1 and the valve seat 2, thereby facilitating sealing and limiting the position of the valve seat 2. This makes the overall structure of the plug valve more compact. Furthermore, the above-mentioned structural design allows for direct installation and engagement between the valve seat 2 and the valve body 1, with the engagement being a hole-operating part fit. This also eliminates the need for the positioning pins of the traditional sealing arc plate, solving the pin breakage problem that occurs in the prior art.

[0049] Furthermore, the valve seat 2 is a cylindrical valve seat. The cylindrical structure makes the overall structure of the valve seat 2 more regular, reduces processing difficulty and cost, and makes it easier to ensure precision. Specifically, the valve seat 2 includes a cylindrical valve seat body 21. A valve seat through hole 22 is provided in the middle of the valve seat body 21, so that the cross-section of the valve seat body 21 is annular. The valve seat through hole 22 is used for fluid passage. At least the first end face of the valve seat body 21 (end face A in Figures 5 and 7) is an arc surface. The first end face of the valve seat 2 cooperates with the side of the plug 3 to achieve a seal. The second end of the valve seat 2 is, for example, set as a stepped structure. The second end face of the second end (end face B in Figures 5 and 7) cooperates with the countersunk surface 41 of the valve seat hole 4 to form a seal and improve the sealing effect. Here, the second end face is preferably a plane or a curved surface. In this embodiment, the traditional arc-shaped sealing arc plate is replaced with a cylindrical valve seat, making the shape more regular and continuous, and making it easier to ensure processing precision. Furthermore, by employing a cylindrical valve seat 2, which provides a planar or radial seal with respect to the valve body 1, the sealing surface becomes more regular, resulting in a better sealing effect.

[0050] Furthermore, an annular second groove 23 is provided on the end face and / or side face of the valve seat 2, for example, on the second end face. A first sealing element 24 is provided in the groove 23. The first sealing element 24 is, for example, an O-ring. The sealing ring plays an auxiliary role in sealing between the valve seat 2 and the valve seat hole 4.

[0051] Furthermore, to facilitate the installation of the plug 3 on the valve body 1, a first mounting hole 5 is provided on the surface of the first side of the valve body 1. The plug 3 is installed inside the valve body 1 along a second direction through the first mounting hole 5, thereby enabling the plug 3 to be installed inside the valve seat 2 and assembled with the valve seat 2. In addition, a second sealing element 25 is provided between the outer surface of the plug 3 and the first end face of the valve seat 2. The second sealing element 25 is preferably an O-ring.

[0052] It should be noted that the gap between the stopcock 3, the valve seat 2, and the valve body 1 can be adjusted by the seal between the valve seat 2 and the valve body 1, thereby achieving adjustable gap and better sealing effect.

[0053] In this embodiment, the stopcock 3 is disposed within the valve body 1 to control the flow path through the flow channel 11 by rotating the stopcock 3. Specifically, the stopcock 3 includes a stopcock body 31 and an operating part 32. Here, the maximum outer diameter of the stopcock body 31 is smaller than the diameter of the first mounting hole 5, and the outer diameter of the operating part 32 is smaller than the diameter of the first mounting hole 5. Specifically, the stopcock body 31 of the stopcock 3 is disposed within the valve body 1 through the first mounting hole 5, particularly within the valve seat 2. The operating part 32 of the stopcock 3 extends out of the first mounting hole 5, extending to the outside of the valve body 1 to facilitate rotation of the stopcock 3.

[0054] In this embodiment, the side surface of the plug body 31 is an arc surface, and it is metal-fitted with the valve seat 2. Both have high dimensional and machining accuracy, thereby achieving a metal-to-metal seal. A plug through hole 311 is provided on the arc surface of the plug body 31. The plug through hole 311 is used to transport fluid, and its through direction is perpendicular to the installation direction of the plug valve. Here, when the plug 3 is rotated to connect the plug through hole 311 with the valve seat through hole 22, the fluid can pass through the plug 3. When the plug 3 is rotated to disconnect the plug through hole 311 from the valve seat through hole 22, the fluid cannot pass through the plug 3.

[0055] Furthermore, a first limiting boss 33 in the shape of an airfoil is provided on the upper end surface of the plug body 31. The first limiting boss 33 cooperates with the inner side of the first mounting hole 5 of the valve body 2 to realize the positioning and rotation of the plug 3 in the valve body 1. Here, the rotation angle range of the plug 3 is 0-90°.

[0056] Furthermore, the operating part 32 is disposed on the limiting boss 33, and an indicator part 321 is disposed on the upper end surface of the operating part 32. The indicator part 321 is used to indicate the valve position status of the plug valve. In this embodiment, the indicator part is a through groove, which is elongated and extends through the entire upper end surface of the operating part 32.

[0057] Specifically, when the extending direction of the through groove 321 is consistent with the extending direction of the flow channel through hole 11, the plug through hole 311 is connected to the flow channel through hole 11, thereby indicating that the valve position of the plug valve is open. When the extending direction of the through groove is perpendicular to the extending direction of the flow channel through hole 11, the plug through hole 311 is not connected to the flow channel through hole 21, thereby indicating that the valve position of the plug valve is closed. For example, the state shown in Figure 1 is the open state, and the fluid medium can flow smoothly through the flow channel through hole 21. When the plug 3 is rotated 90 degrees using an external tool, the plug through hole 311 and the flow channel through hole 21 become perpendicular to each other, causing the plug valve to become closed.

[0058] The through groove described here serves as an indicator, and its shape has no special requirements. Any modified design that can indicate the valve position is acceptable. For example, the cross-section of the through groove can also be circular, elliptical, arc-shaped, etc. It should be noted that the indicating part here can be a through groove structure as described above, or a non-through groove structure; in addition to the groove structure, the indicating part can also be a rectangular boss structure, etc.

[0059] In this embodiment, the opening and closing of the stopcock valve is achieved using an external tool, specifically by operating the end of the operating part 32. Therefore, the end structure of the operating part 32 can adopt various irregular shapes, such as a square or hexagonal structure, preferably a hexagonal structure. This allows the end of the operating part 32 to be matched with a wrench with a hexagonal hole, enabling operation of the stopcock 3. Regardless of whether it is hexagonal, square, or any other shape, as long as there is a point or surface for applying force, the opening and closing operation of the stopcock 3 can be achieved, thus realizing the integrated function of operating the stopcock 3.

[0060] Furthermore, a valve cover 6 is provided on the outer side of the first mounting hole 5, and the valve cover 6 is sleeved on the operating part 22. The valve cover 6 includes a valve cover body 61, and a valve cover through hole 62 is provided on the valve cover body 61. A pin hole is provided on the outer side of the end face of the valve cover body 61. The pin hole cooperates with a positioning pin 63 to limit the relative position between the valve cover 6 and the valve body 1 during assembly, ensuring the uniqueness of the assembly position of the valve cover 6.

[0061] In this embodiment, the valve cover 6 and the valve body 1 are connected and fastened together by fasteners 20 to ensure the reliability of the connection and the integrity of the seal.

[0062] Furthermore, a limiting mechanism is provided on the valve cover 6, for example, a groove 63 or a countersunk hole is provided at the valve cover through hole 62. The groove or the countersunk hole is wing-shaped. The groove or the countersunk hole is used to cooperate with the first limiting boss 33 on the plug body 31 to realize the limiting function between the plug 3 and the valve cover 6, especially to limit the plug 3 when it is in the open and closed state.

[0063] The structures on the stopcock 3 described in this embodiment, such as the stopcock body 31 with an irregular shape, the indicator part 321 on the operation part 32, and the first limiting boss 33, enable the stopcock to integrate multiple functions such as switch indication, switch operation, and switch limiting, thereby enriching the applicability of the stopcock.

[0064] In addition, a first retaining ring 64 and a third sealing element 65 are provided between the valve cover 6 and the valve body 1, and a second retaining ring 34 and a fourth sealing element 35 are provided between the end faces of the valve cover 6 and the plug 3, thereby achieving a better seal between the valve cover 6 and the valve body 1 and between the valve cover 6 and the plug 3.

[0065] Furthermore, a second mounting hole 7 is provided on the surface of the valve body 4 on the second side opposite to the first side. The second mounting hole 7 is positioned opposite to the first mounting hole 5 and is used to mount the grease injection valve 8. The inner side of the second mounting hole 7 is, for example, a threaded hole. The second mounting hole 7 can also be provided on other sides of the valve body 1 to allow the grease injection valve 8 to be positioned in other locations.

[0066] Furthermore, a connector 12 is provided at the first end 1a of the valve body 1 to facilitate the connection of the plug valve with other devices. The connector 12 can be, for example, a wing nut. Specifically, a second limiting boss 13 is provided on the outer side of the first end 1a of the valve body 1, through which the connector 12 is connected. Here, the connector 12 has an internal thread, while the end of the valve body 1 has an external thread, which facilitates the mounting of the connector 12 on the valve body 1 for connection with other devices.

[0067] In addition, a third retaining ring 14 and a fourth retaining ring 15 are provided between the nut 12 and the valve body 1. Here, the third retaining ring 14 is a fan-shaped retaining ring, and the fourth retaining ring 15 is an elastic retaining ring.

[0068] Furthermore, a third groove 16 is provided on the inner side of the second end 1b of the valve body 1, and a fifth sealing element 17 is installed through the third groove 16. The fifth sealing element 17 can be a tandem sealing ring.

[0069] The highly integrated structure of this embodiment allows different parts to have related functions without the need for additional assembly of other parts to achieve specific functions. For example, by providing a recessed structure to the valve seat 2, and by providing a countersunk hole in the valve seat hole 4, the valve seat 2 can be assembled into the countersunk hole, reducing the gap between the valve seat 2 and the valve seat hole 4, saving the need for additional gap-filling parts and further reducing the number of mating parts; as another example, by providing a hexagonal structure at the end of the operating part 32 of the plug valve 3, it is convenient to operate the opening and closing of the plug valve with tools, thus eliminating the need for a plug valve cap; as yet another example, by providing a positioning structure on the plug valve 3, and simultaneously providing a structure on the valve cover 6 that is complementary in shape to the positioning structure, the parts are mutually restrained through the concave-convex fit, which can save the restraining parts in the prior art.

[0070] The embodiments disclosed herein optimize the component structure, reduce the number of mating parts, make the structure more compact, reduce the difficulty of processing, and improve the sealing effect.

[0071] Furthermore, the features of the embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings or the various embodiments mentioned in this specification should not be construed as independent embodiments. Rather, each feature described in one example of an embodiment can be combined with one or more other desired features from other embodiments to produce other embodiments not described in words or with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0072] The above-described embodiments are only used to illustrate the technical solutions of this application, and are not intended to limit them. Although this application has been described in detail with reference to the foregoing embodiments, those skilled in the art should understand that modifications can still be made to the technical solutions described in the foregoing embodiments, or equivalent substitutions can be made to some of the technical features. Such modifications or substitutions do not cause the essence of the corresponding technical solutions to deviate from the spirit and scope of the technical solutions of the embodiments of this application, and should all be included within the protection scope of this application.
