[0002] Emulsifying composition

[0003] Field of the invention

[0004] The invention relates to an emulsifying composition comprising one or more emulsifying agents EA and one or more special diesters D wherein the mass ratio m(emulsifying agent EA) / m(diester D) is in the range between Xm1 to Xm2, with Xm1 = 1 / 50, and Xm2 = 5, and wherein emulsifying agent EA is selected from the group of anionic emulsifiers, cationic emulsifiers, amphoteric emulsifiers and non-ionic emulsifiers.

[0005] Prior art

[0006] Emulsions of aqueous and oil phases constitute the main fraction of numerous cosmetic formulations. A variety of oil phase constituents and emollients are used, most of which are currently obtained from fossil petroleum sources. Increasing attention for sustainability aspects of cosmetic products, however, has recently shifted the focus of formulation development towards avoiding components of fossil origin. Accordingly, formulation components from renewable sources have been used increasingly. Typically, cosmetic emollients require viscosities in the range of 3 -200 mPas at room temperature, surface tension in the range of 25 - 33 mN / m, medium to low polarity, and medium to good spreading behavior. Additionally, suitable components should contribute to other desirable characteristics of cosmetic formulations as e.g. good dermatological compatibility, good moisturizing properties, elegant appearance, easy application, optimal sensory impression, storage stability and possibly cleansing and nourishing effects for the skin. Importantly, the range of options for renewable components is further limited by the need to avoid components of tropical origin to reduce negative impacts on fragile ecosystems. In view of these limitations there is substantial interest in providing sustainable emulsifying compositions for cosmetic applications.

[0007] EP4110279A1 discloses dispersant compositions comprising alkyl polyglucosides and diisopropyl adipate. Adipic acid, although currently sourced mostly from petrochemical sources, could be obtained from renewable resources. However, effectiveness of diisopropyl adipate as a emollient is limited in numerous formulation settings.

[0008] Accordingly, there is a need for emulsifying compositions that overcome the limitations of prior art compositions.202400047 Foreign Filing 2

[0161] Example 14: Sensory evaluation of a O / W lotion as compared to cetearyl isononanoate and diethylhexyl carbonate

[0162] The formulations shown in Table 4 were prepared. The influence on the feeling on the skin of the formulations was investigated by a test panel. Ten trained people each applied a defined amount of approx. 25 pl of the formulations to a defined test field on the inside of the forearm without knowing the composition of the formulations. The formulations were spread in the test field with the help of a finger through circular movements until noticeable absorption was achieved (maximum 60 circles). The parameters of whitening, oiliness, absorption and tackiness were assessed on a scale from 0 to 10 during the spreading of the sample on the skin and also the parameters of oiliness, absorption and tackiness again after five minutes.

[0201] Example 15: Perception of odor

[0202] Example 9, 11 and 11 b (all not according to the invention) and Examples 1 , 8 and 8b (all according to the invention) were submitted to an odor panel. For this, 25 mL samples were provided in 50 mL wide neck sample bottles which were then closed and stored at ambient temperature for 2 h. The odor test took place in an odorless place. Four test persons sniffed the samples in succession and subsequently gave an assessment for each sample individually, with the following classification: (1) good assessment, (2) moderate assessment and (3) poor assessment. The test result results as mean value of the assessments.

[0210] These results show that Examples 1.8 and 8b (according to the invention), in comparison with Examples 9, 11 and 11 b (not according to the invention), lead to a perception of improved odor.

[0211] Example 15: Perception of odor hold / retention

[0212] Example 11b ( / 3-ethyladipic acid bis-dihydrocitronellyl ester; not according to the invention), Example 8b (3-propyladipic acid bis-dihydrocitronellyl ester), the solutions of Example 11b and 8b in 95% ethanol and the respective formulations 2e (with Example 11 b; / 3-ethyladipic acid bis-dihydrocitronellyl ester; not according to the invention) and 2f (with Example 8b; 3-propyladipic acid bis-dihydrocitronellyl ester) were submitted to a special odor panel and evaluated for odor hold / retention. Ten trained people each applied a defined amount of approx. 25 pl of the samples to a defined test field on the inside of the forearm without knowing the composition of the samples. The samples were spread in the test field with the help of a finger through circular movements until noticeable absorption was achieved (maximum 60 circles). The odor intensity of each test field was characterized between 0 and 10 (O=not noticeable odor intensity, 10= extremely high odor intensity) and evaluated after 10min, 30min, 1h and 3h to assess the odor hold difference. This parameter is very important for the application performance of cosmetic products including emulsions and perfumes. The longer the odor hold is, the more attractive the cosmetic product and consumer prefer to use and rebuy this product with longer odor hold.

[0236] Formulation Examples

[0237] The following examples demonstrate the applicability of the diesters according to the invention in different cosmetic formulations and their compatibility with various other ingredients such as emulsifiers, stabilizers, preservatives or active compounds like UV-filters or antimicrobial drugs which are usually challenging to formulate. The application of the invention is not limited to the formulations shown. The preparation of the examples has been done according to common standard methods.

[0238] The sample formulations listed below were prepared with each of the diesters of examples 1 to 8b according to the invention (hereinafter marked "Example X"); nine different formulations were thus prepared for each example formulation.
