Abstract
Description
Description Title of the invention: New composition of solid shampoo with a malleable paste texture
[0001] This patent application relates to a solid shampoo composition having a malleable, paste-like texture and comprising glycerin, at least one alkyl polyglucoside, and sodium cocoyl isethionate. The invention also relates to the use of this composition as a shampoo. Previous art
[0002] Shampoos for cleaning hair are typically in liquid form. This is not always practical for the consumer, especially those who need to use shampoo outside the home, for example when travelling, hiking, or doing other activities outside the home.
[0003] Furthermore, these liquid shampoo formulas are mostly packaged in plastic containers, which contribute to environmental pollution. Numerous non-governmental organizations highlight these recurring problems within the cosmetics and personal care industry.
[0004] Reducing this plastic packaging is therefore essential, and the company is striving to eliminate it whenever possible. The need for easily transportable shampoos has also become apparent.
[0005] The development of solid shampoos has therefore accelerated in recent years, in order to address these issues.
[0006] Most existing solid shampoos come in the form of a bar of soap. However, these solid shampoo formulations come with their share of drawbacks and difficulties in use.
[0007] All the solid shampoos currently available are indeed difficult for the user to apply, requiring a very large amount of water to emulsify them. Furthermore, such solid shampoos, which do not emulsify easily, are unpleasant for users accustomed to liquid shampoos that emulsify readily.
[0008] The even application of these solid shampoos to the hair is also problematic, especially for medium to long hair.
[0009] In addition, these solid shampoos tend to slip easily from the hand, and tangle hair more easily during application.
[0010] They also melt on contact with water on a soap dish, resulting in product loss for the user.
[0011] This product loss is also linked to the fact that solid shampoos are difficult to dose to obtain optimal effectiveness, and waste could therefore be avoided.
[0012] Thus, there remains a need for an effective solid shampoo composition that solves all the problems mentioned above, and which is therefore easier to apply and emulsifies more easily.
[0013] To meet these needs, the Applicant has developed formulations, described in patent applications FR2110730 and FR2303643. These formulations include, in particular, at least one acylglutamate, xanthan gum, at least one alkylpoly glucoside, and candelilla wax and carnauba wax.
[0014] These compositions, although usable by consumers, can be improved to meet their needs.
[0015] In the context of this invention, the Applicant has this time developed a solid, paste-like composition made malleable by its ingredients and their concentration, stable over time and which allows for easier application and instant emulsification than previously developed compositions.
[0016] Furthermore, this formula contains no acylglutamate, no gelling agents, and no fat phase, allowing for a much faster manufacturing process that can be carried out cold. Packaging is also simplified by the absence of heating during preparation, as the product is kept cold throughout its entire manufacturing process.
[0017] In addition, its texture and packaging allow you to take only the desired and optimal amount for cleaning and maintaining hair, and to prevent unused product from coming into contact with water. Summary of the invention

[0035] The term "shampoo composition" refers to a cosmetic composition designed to cleanse the keratin fibers on the human scalp, commonly known as hair. This composition is used to cleanse the hair of individuals with healthy hair.
[0036] A "solid shampoo" is defined as a shampoo formulation with a compact, non-liquid consistency that does not spread on the surface it rests on. The active ingredients in these shampoos are activated upon contact with water during use, and then act on the hair and scalp to cleanse them.
[0037] According to the invention, "malleable paste" means that the solid shampoo composition is in the form of a deformable or moldable paste, for example, under the pressure of the user's fingers, thus allowing for easier application to the user's hair compared to a conventional solid shampoo. A malleable paste texture, as defined in the invention, is similar to the texture of modeling clay. Therefore, the composition according to the invention has a viscosity similar to that of modeling clay. The malleable paste texture is achieved through the combination of compounds in the formulation.
[0038] Alkyl polyglucosides are surfactants, which are water-miscible compounds that reduce the surface tension between keratin fibers and soiling. This allows the soiling to be emulsified and removed during rinsing. Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) are biodegradable, non-ionic surfactants derived from sugars, typically glucose and fatty alcohols. The final products of APGs are complex mixtures of compounds whose hydrophilic ends consist of various sugars and whose hydrophobic ends consist of alkyl groups of varying lengths.
[0039] Glycerin, or glycerol, is a chemical compound with the formula HOH2C–CHOH–CH2OH. It is derived from vegetable or animal fats and is obtained by hydrolysis of natural oils or fats, then refined to remove impurities. Glycerin provides hydration to the hair. Glycerin also acts as a solvent in the composition according to the invention, since it replaces the water usually present in shampoos, and allows for a malleable, solid-paste texture.
[0040] Sodium gluconate is a salt of gluconic acid with the molecular formula Na1C6H 11 O7 is used for its role as a chelating agent, which will therefore block the metal ions Mg 2+ , That 2+ etc... It can be obtained by fermenting glucose with specific bacteria, then purified.
[0041] Propylene glycol is obtained from the reaction of propylene oxide with water to form monopropylene glycol (MPG), subsequent reactions producing di-(DPG), tri-(TPG) and other propylene glycols.
[0042] White clay, also known as kaolin, is an impermeable rock rich in silica.
[0043] The white clay used in the composition according to the invention is a filler that provides the composition with the following properties: skin purification and cleansing, adsorbent, absorbent, repairing, and softening. It also provides minerals to the hair (calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium, silica). Finally, as a filler, it gives the product texture.
[0044] Citric acid is a natural organic acid derived from citrus fruits. It helps lower the pH of the product, resulting in increased shine and softness for the hair.
[0045] Perfumes or essential oils can be used to give a scent to the composition according to the invention. An example of such a perfume is bamboo scent, preferably that designated "Bamboo Perfume NAT 021554". Another example is coconut scent.
[0046] Hydroxypropyl guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride is a derivative of guar gum, obtained through chemical modification to give it cationic properties. It is used for its conditioning properties, helping to detangle and soften hair by reducing friction, leaving it with a smooth, hydrated texture. It also improves the stability of formulas and promotes even application to the hair.
[0047] Aloe vera is a plant with fleshy leaves rich in moisturizing, soothing, and restorative gel. Its extracts are used for their hydrating properties. Aloe vera extracts are obtained by harvesting and pressing the gel from the leaves, then filtering and stabilizing it to preserve its active properties for use in cosmetic products.
[0048] Sodium benzoate is a preservative that inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeasts, and molds, extending the shelf life of products. Naturally present in certain fruits, it is obtained by neutralizing benzoic acid (also naturally found in fruits like cranberries) with sodium hydroxide. This process creates a soluble salt that can be incorporated into cosmetic formulations for its preservative properties.
[0049] Potassium sorbate is a preservative used to prevent the growth of mold, yeast, and bacteria, thus extending the shelf life of products. It is obtained by neutralizing sorbic acid (found in some fruits) with potassium hydroxide, creating a soluble salt suitable for cosmetic formulations.
[0050] Sodium cocoyl isethionate is an anionic surfactant derived from coconut oil fatty acids and isethionate. Preferably, this compound is added to the composition in powder form. In the context of this invention, this surfactant provides very satisfactory results on hair.
[0051] The term "emulsion in the palm of the hand" means that the composition according to the invention is placed in the palm of the user's hand, and that the user then adds water. The water combines with the ingredients of the product, forming an emulsion, that is, a dispersion of oil in water or vice versa, which becomes more fluid and allows for easier application to the hair, while activating the cleansing and moisturizing properties of the product.
[0052] The term "plant extract" refers to a preparation obtained from one or more parts of plants (leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruits, seeds, etc.) through a specific extraction process. These extracts can be obtained by extraction with various solvents (water, alcohol, organic solvents) or through physical methods (pressing, distillation).
[0053] An effective quantity is understood to be a quantity sufficient for washing hair. The quantity of the composition according to the invention used by a user depends on the length of their hair, ranging from 1 cm of product coming out of the tube to 4 cm for long hair.
[0054] In the description and examples, unless otherwise stated, percentages are percentages by weight, and value ranges expressed as "between... and..." include the specified lower and upper bounds. The following examples are provided for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention. Detailed description of the invention

The user then emulsifies the mixture with a little water in the palm of their hand (Figure 3) before applying it to their hair (Figure 4). The subsequent use is identical to that of a liquid shampoo, including rinsing the hair.
[0143] The paste-like composition according to the invention can be packaged in any airtight container that prevents any contact with air and allows its use. Such containers may be, for example, a jar, a bottle, a cap, or a tube.
[0144] Preferably, the chosen packaging is a tube, preferably made of recyclable aluminum.
[0145] Preferably, the said composition is formulated in a tube.
[0146] This malleable, paste-like solid shampoo formula stands out from existing formulas because its process is much faster, requiring only cold mixing of the components. This also simplifies packaging, as no heat retention is necessary. It is well known in the industry that cold packaging is simpler, safer, and less expensive than maintaining a warm product.
[0147] In addition, use is greatly facilitated for a user, as the tube is easier to remove and the emulsion in the hand is instantaneous. Examples
[0148] Example 1: Testing the composition according to the invention
[0149] The composition of the malleable, paste-like solid shampoo according to the invention is packaged in an aluminum tube.
[0150] The composition of this example is as follows: - 33% to 35% by weight of the glycerin composition; - 19% to 21% by weight of the sodium cocoyl isethionate composition; - 15% to 18% by weight of the decyl glucoside composition - 14% to 16% water by weight of the composition; - 3% to 6% by weight of the inulin composition; - 6% to 10% by weight of the white clay composition; - from 0.3% to 0.6% by weight of the composition of hydroxypropyl guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride; - from 0.01% to 0.5% by weight of the sodium gluconate composition; - from 0.1% to 1% by weight of the citric acid composition; - from 0.2% to 0.7% by weight of the propylene glycol composition; - 0.001 to 0.1% by weight of the aloe vera leaf extract composition; - 0.001% to 0.1% by weight of the sweet orange extract composition; - 0.0001% to 0.005% by weight of the sodium benzoate composition; - 0.0001% to 0.1% by weight of the potassium sorbate composition; - 0.1 to 1% by weight of the perfume composition.
[0151] 20 users are selected to test the composition.
[0152] For application, users take the required amount of product into the palm of their hand, from 1 to 4 cm depending on hair length. Users then add a small amount of water to the palm of their hand to emulsify the composition according to the invention.
[0153] Next, users apply the resulting product to their hair like a regular shampoo.
[0154] Users are asked to describe the following parameters: - Smell; - Color; - Texture; - Foaming effect; - Easy to rinse; - Softness of the hair upon application; - Easy to spread; - Detangling on wet hair; - Softness on wet hair after rinsing; - Softness on dry hair; - Appearance of the hair after drying; - Volume effect.
[0155] These parameters are studied for the product on a gradient comprising: - Excellent; - Good; - AVERAGE; - Bad.
[0156] For all these parameters, the results are positive, with users giving a majority of "Excellent" or "Good" values.
[0157] Example 2: Evaluating the emulsification rate of a paste-like shampoo
[0158] Definition:
[0159] The emulsification speed of a shampoo here refers to the time required to obtain a homogeneous mixture after incorporating the product into water.
[0160] This emulsification rate is determined by measuring the emulsification time in water for a given quantity of product. This quantity is fixed at 1g of product.
[0161] In order to carry out this measurement under the best conditions and for the sake of repeatability, the measurement will be taken at a fixed temperature of 35± 0.1°C.
[0162] Materials needed: - 250 ml beaker - Balance - Bain marie - Spatulas - Aluminium - Thermometer - Agitator, for example of the Turbotest V 2004 type - Deflocculating shaft and turbine, preferably model D35 L320 316 L TT - Stopwatch - Distilled water - Sample of thick shampoo to be analyzed
[0163] Operating procedure:
[0164] Place 99g of distilled water in a 250mL beaker, cover tightly with aluminum foil and place in a water bath at 35°C for 30 minutes.
[0165] Check that the distilled water is at 35°C, if not, extend the heating time until this temperature is reached.
[0166] Without removing the beaker from the water bath, stir the water at 100rpm.
[0167] Add the Igr of the paste shampoos to be analyzed in one block to the water and start the timer.
[0168] Keep stirring at a constant speed.
[0169] Stop the timer once the entire block of shampoo paste is emulsified in the water.
[0170] Note the emulsification time per Igr of tested product.

[0177] Example 3: Evaluating the spreading speed of a thick shampoo in the hands
[0178] Definition:
[0179] The spreading speed of a thick shampoo in the hands refers to the time it takes a subject to spread the product without wet hands. The aim of this measurement is to predict how long it will take the consumer to distribute the product in their hands for application.
[0180] In order to carry out this measurement under the best conditions and for the sake of repeatability, the measurement will be carried out with a fixed quantity of Igr product and will be carried out for at least three distinct subjects.
[0181] Materials needed: - Balance - Spatula - Watch glass - Stopwatch - Water point - Product sample to be evaluated
[0182] Operating procedure:
[0183] Comparative study of the spreading speed of shampoos 1002 and K004 in the hands, following the procedure described below. This study was conducted on four subjects who had never previously evaluated these products. The test was performed blindly. Two subjects tested formula K004 first, and two subjects tested formula 1002 first. They were also asked to provide feedback after their test.
[0184] Take a small amount (Ig) of the shampoo paste in a watch glass.
[0185] The subject wets his hands as if he were washing them.
[0186] Transfer the thickened shampoo from the watch glass to the subject's non-dominant hand (example: left hand if right-handed) using a spatula.
[0187] Start the timer.
[0188] The subject rubs their hands together to spread the product evenly over the inside of both hands.
[0189] Stop the timer once the product is spread in a homogeneous and uniform layer.
[0190] Note the spreading time for Igr of the tested product.

[0196] The 4 testers indicated that they would choose product K004 if they had to choose only one.
[0197] In light of this test, the K004 product appears to spread more quickly in the hands on average than the 1002. It also leaves a significantly better impression on the testers.
[0198] Conclusions Examples 2 and 3:
[0199] The results presented above allow us to conclude that formula K004 does indeed exhibit improved spreading and emulsifying properties compared to formula 1002. Furthermore, testers who were able to compare the two products unanimously stated that they would prefer the texture of formula K004 if they had to choose one for personal use. The texture of formula 1002 when spread in the hands even tended to discourage some testers from using it.
