Description

[0001] ELECTRIC SPIN SCRUBBER

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The invention relates to a device for cleaning surfaces using mechanical friction inducing means and cleaning area illuminating means.

[0004] BACKGROUND ART

[0005] Cleaning of bathtubs is a task which normally requires and individual to apply a scrubbing action to the bathtub surface repeatedly without really having means to identify the areas that should be scrubbed additionally. Viewing spots that are hard to identify with a naked eye, such as lime scale, latent blood, urine on a surface to be cleaned is a problem on its own. Dimly lit areas can be difficult to clean, especially when only visible light having 400-700 wavelength is applied. Various illuminated surface cleaning devices have been proposed to improve the cleaning in the areas described. While the overall illumination of the bathroom may be adequate, the user himself and the scrubbing device will obstruct the lighting. Usually, the lighting does not comprise wavelength lower than 400 nanometres. US patent application No. US295,112, publication No. US4399578 discloses a tool for cleaning a bathtub. The tool enables an individual standing adjacent a bathtub to readily reach and clean the inner vertical and horizontal surfaces of the bathtub. The tool comprises a cleaning head and an elongate handle shaped, contoured and dimensioned to allow the application of the cleaning head to bottom and side surfaces of the bathtub. The handle is attached to the cleaning head generally at the centre of gravity thereof to facilitate the control and positioning of the cleaning head during utilization of the tool. The cleaning head includes a rotary circular pad for contacting and cleaning the surfaces of the bathtub and a motor for supplying motive power to drive the circular pad. The circular pad is resiliently compressible to facilitate the adaptation of the cleaning head to the various curved surfaces of the bathtub. The disclosed tool must be used with an external light source for the scrubbing task.US patent US2778043 discloses a polishing device comprising a hollow casing comprising an elongated flat handle having a free end and another end, said other end terminating in an enlarged cylindrical housing extending crosswise of the handle and projecting beyond one side of the handle, said casing further including a lamp shield on the side of the housing remote from the handle, said housing having an outer end and said shield having an open side facing in the same direction in which said cylindrical housing extends, an electric motor enclosed in said housing having a shaft extending axially of said housing and projecting axially beyond said outer end of the housing, a brush secured to said shaft beyond the outer end of the housing, an electric bulb mounted within said shield. Main disadvantage of such positioning of lighting means is that the light source attachment means is permanently affixed to the main body of the polishing device and thus significantly reduces use of different polishing heads.

[0006] The present invention is dedicated to overcoming of the above shortcomings and for producing further advantages over prior art.

The light source holder when inserted into the light source holder receiving and retention section (1.2.3) is locked and restricted from any degree of freedom motion except when a user is acting upon the light source holder to inset to or retrieve from the receiving and retention section (1.2.3). The first limiter (1.2.3.1) can have the same or smaller area for interacting with a relevant side of the light source holder as the second limiter (1.2.3.3).

[0036] The second end (1.2.2) of the second section (1.2) is rigidly joined with the first end (1.3.1) of the third section (1.3). Also, the second section (1.2) can be implemented as a continuation of the third section (1.3) being the same body.

[0037] The third section (1.3) houser an electric drive (not shown), such as a brushless DC motor, to drive a scrubber head (3.1). The third section (1.3) is also sealed and watertight as well as first and second sections (1.1, 1.2). The C shaped connector (2.2) is a snap-fit body which elastically deforms when pushed on to the light source holder receiving and retention section (1.2.3) and tightly encloses on the light source holder receiving and retention section (1.2.3). The free end of fingers (2.2.1) of the C shaped connector (2.2) increases distance one from another when the light source holder (2) is being attached allowing the light source holder receiving and retention section (1.2.3) to be inserted between the fingers (2.2.1). The free end of fingers (2.2.1) of the C shaped connector (2.2) decreases distance one from another when the C shaped connector (2.2) is in locked position on the light source holder receiving and retention section (1.2.3). The light source holder (2) further comprises an angle adjustment and lock hinge joint (2.2.2) implemented as a toothed connection or friction connection between the stem (2.1) and the light source retainer (2.3).The stem (2.2) is easily detachable and can be provided of various lengths. The stem (2.2) is a rigid element that does not bent while the electric spin scrubber (ESS) is operating. In a locked position the stem (2.1) is restricted from rotating around circumference of the second section (1.2). The locking also prevents the stem (2.1) from rocking forth and back between the first section (1.1) and second section (1.2).

[0042] When the light source (2.4) is affixed to the light source retainer (2.3) it is restricted from motion to any direction while in use and while the user does not act upon the light source (2.4) to adjust position or angle of the light source (2.4). Otherwise, the light source (2.4) is in a fixed position on the stem (2.2) being preferably aligned parallel with respect to at least second section (1.2)

[0043] Preferably the light source (2.1) produces light in the ultraviolet range, i.e. below 400 nanometres. In another instance the light source can produces visible light in the range of 400-700 nanometres. In yet another instance the light source can produce light in the range of up to 700 nanometres. The ultraviolet portion of the light is effective for illuminating various organic stains, such as food, urine, latent blood, lime scale for example, which glow or fluoresce in the presence of ultraviolet light wavelengths and are thus easily identifiable for scrubbing.

[0044] The light source (2.1) can comprise any element or assembly capable of emitting light, and can, for example, be an array of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The LED may be a semiconductor light emitting diode or it may be a light emitting device employing a different technology to produce light. A plurality of light sources (2.1) may be arranged around circumference of the middle part (1.2.4) for enhanced illumination of the area to be scrubbed altogether illuminating the area after scrubbing without need to turn the electric spin scrubber (ESS) around to illuminate the area already scrubbed. Any further light sources can be disposed on the same stem (2.2) on the intermediate member (2.4) arching around circumference of the middle part (1.2.4) or on multiple stems, erected from the middle part (1.2.4) of the second section (1.2).The electric spin scrubber (ESS) as an example can comprise the light source holder (2). As another example the electric spin scrubber (ESS) as an example can comprise the light source holder (2) and the light source (2.4). As another example the electric spin scrubber (ESS) as an example can comprise the light source holder (2) and a UV light source (2.4).

[0045] In another instance of the invention the electric spin scrubber may comprise a scrubber head (3.1) directly attachable to the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4') via socket type receiver (3.1.1) for inserting the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4'). The receiver (3.1.1) comprises at least three sidewalls and preferably the receiver (3.1.1) matches the shape of the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4') sidewalls (SW', SW", SW'"; FTW', FTW", FTW'"; STW', STW", STW'") and match the shape of protruding element (1.3.4.1, 1.3.4.1') of the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4'). The scrubber head (3.1) comprises a body (3.1.2) comprising the said receiver (3.1.1) and attachment means for attaching scrubbing means (not shown) or comprising scrubbing means attached to the body (3.1.2). The receiver (3.1.1) comprises at least one latch (3.1.4) and preferably multiple latches (3.1.4) each comprising a hook shape end (3.1.4.1) for interacting with each latch hook (3.1.4) retention indentation (1.3.4.2) for retention of a hook shape end (3.1.4.1) of a scrubber head latch (3.1.4).

[0046] In another instance of the invention the electric spin scrubber (ESS) may comprise a soap dispenser (3.2). The socket type receiver (3.2.1) is disposed above the elastic cover (3.2.3) and touching it, while the shaft (3.2.4) at one end is connected to the socket type receiver(3.2.1) and the free end is being guided in a guiding aperture (3.2.5) below the elastic cover (3.2.3). The guiding aperture (3.2.5) is formed in a middle section of the container (3.2.2) in a soap permeable rigid net (3.2.6) attached to the container (3.2.2). A spring (3.2.7) is provided on the shaft (3.2.4) abutting the inner surface of the elastic cover (3.2.3) and part of the rigid net (3.2.6). The soap dispenser (3.2) further comprises an outlet (3.2.8) with a membrane (3.2.9) on the bottom of the container (3.2.2). The outlet is surrounded by a further connector head (3.2.10) walls.

[0047] The soap dispenser (3.2) can be attached to the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4') for rotary motion. To dispense the soap from the container (3.2.2) to the area of scrubbing, the elastic cover (3.2.3) is pushed down using the electric spin scrubber (ESS) thus pushing the soap out of the container (3.2.2) through the membrane (3.2.9) and the outlet (3.2.8) into space between the further connector head (3.2.10) walls. The further connector head (3.2.10) comprises at least one latch hook (3.1.4) retention indentation (3.3.4.2) for retention of a hook shape end (3.1.4.1) of a scrubber head latch (3.1.4). Preferably each sidewall comprises at least one such latch hook (3.1.4) retention indentation (3.3.4.2). The further connector (3.2.10) has at least three side walls having height. As a further example the further connector (3.2.10) has six side walls having height where first three walls have first the same length each and second three walls have the second same length each. The first three walls are shorter than the second three walls and distributed around circumference of the further connector (3.2.10) interchangeably. The further connector head (3.2.10) is adapted for connecting a scrubber head (3.1). The soap dispensed though the outlet (3.2.8) is channelled into the channel (3.1.3) of the connector (3.1.1) of the scrubber head (3.1) and thus dispensing the soap onto the scrubbed surface straight into the scrubbing means or onto the scrubbed surface. The spring (3.2.7) returns the elastic cover (3.2.3) and the socket type receiver (3.2.1) of the soap dispenser (3.2) to initial position. The membrane (3.2.9) allows to dispense soap only if the elastic cover (3.2.3) is pressed down and allows to intake air into the container (3.2.2) while the elastic cover is being returned to its initial position. The membrane (3.2.9) prevents the soap from leaking from the container (3.2.2) if the elastic cover (3.2.3) is not being pressed. In another instance of the invention the electric spin scrubber (ESS) may comprise a dual scrubber head (3.3). The dual scrubber head (3.3) comprises main body (3.3.1) and scrubber heads (3.1). The main body (3.3.1) comprises a neck (3.3.1.1) comprising a threaded protruding ring (3.3.1.1.1), an elastic gasket (3.3.1.1.2) and a nut (3.3.1.1.3). The second end (1.3.3) of the third section (1.3) of the electric spin scrubber (ESS) is inserted into the neck (3.3.1.1) and tightened therein. The tightening is accomplished by turning the nut (3.3.1.1.3) and screwing it on the threaded protruding ring (3.3.1.1.1) at the same time pressing the gasket (3.3.1.1.2) to the surface of the second end (1.3.3) of the third section (1.3) electric spin scrubber (ESS). The gasket (3.3.1.1.2) comprises slits (3.3.1.1.2.1) allowing the gasket to expand upon the insertion of the electric spin scrubber. The gasket (3.3.1.1.2) further comprises a wedge shape top portion (3.3.1.1.2.2) which is being pressed upon by the wedge shape surface (3.3.1.1.3.1) of the top part of the nut (3.3.1.1.3) thus forcing the elastic gasket to tighten onto the electric spin scrubber.

[0048] The dual scrubber head (3.3) further comprises a socket type receiver (3.3.2) for inserting the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4') where the receiver (3.2.1) match the shape of the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4') walls and match the shape of protruding element (1.3.4.1, 1.3.4.1')) of the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4'). The receiver (3.3.2) comprises at least three sidewalls and preferably the receiver (3.3.2) matches the shape of the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4') sidewalls (SW', SW", SW'"; FTW', FTW", FTW'"; STW', STW", STW'") and match the shape of protruding element (1.3.4.1, 1.3.4.1') of the connector (1.3.4, 1.3.4'). The receiver (3.3.2) comprises at least one latch and preferably multiple latches each comprising a hook shape end for interacting with each latch hook (3.1.4) retention indentation (1.3.4.2).

[0049] The dual scrubber head (3.3) further comprises gearing assembly (3.3.3) inside the main body (3.3.1). The gearing assembly (3.3.3) comprises a first gear (3.3.3.1) connected with the socket type receiver (3.3.2), a second gear (3.3.3.2) meshed with the firs the gear (3.3.3.1) for rotation into first direction, a third gear (3.3.3.3) meshed with the first gear (3.3.3.1) for rotation into the first direction, and fourth gear (3.3.3.4) meshed with the third gear (3.3.3.) for rotation into the second direction, The second rotation direction is opposite the first rotation direction. Two scrubber heads (3.1) are connected to the respectively second gear (3.3.3.2)and fourth gear (3.3.3.4) via connectors (3.3.4). Each connector is identical and comprises at least three side walls having height (H). As a further example the connector has six side walls having height where first three walls have first the same length each and second three walls have the second same length each. The first three walls are shorter than the second three walls and distributed around circumference of the connector interchangeably. The side walls for example are at an angle of 120 degrees one to another is three side walls are present. If six side walls are present the side walls for example are at an angle of 60 degrees one to another. Such a connector ensures improved connection and retention of a scrubber head attached to the electric spin scrubber (ESS). The connector optionally comprises a middle section protruding from the face of the top of the connector by height (h). The middle section comprises side walls. The side walls for example are at an angle of 45 degrees one to another. Such a connector ensures further improved connection and retention of a scrubber head attached to the electric spin scrubber (ESS). The connectors (3.3.4) are locked on separate shafts (3.3.5) being attached to second and fourth gears respectively for zero degree of freedom and for rotation by the shafts.

[0050] Spinning to different sides allows the product to be stable on the surface, move forward instead of to a side (due to single rotation side).

[0051] The stem (2.2) can be provided at such length to displace the light source (2.1) radially away from the middle part of the third section (1.3) so that the angle of direction of emitted light will require least angle adjustment or none at all when the electric spin scrubber (ESS) is equipped with different size scrubber heads (3.1) or more than one scrubber head, such as the dual scrubber head (3.3) for covering larger area and for stabilizing operation of the electric spin scrubber (ESS).

[0052] The scrubber head (3.1) can have any scrubbing surface. The scrub head (3.4) may comprise sponge, stiff and soft bristle, steel brush, toilet brush, mop, precision brush, super soft brush, car detailing brush, microfiber brush, grout cleaning brush or other. When the scrubber head (3.1) is used in combination with the refillable tank (3.4), the brush head comprises channels inside the scrubber head for channelling the cleaning liquid from refillable tank (3.4) to the surface that is being scrubbed.

[0053] The best scrubbing results are achievable when the light source is fixed at 11 - 14 cm distance from the surface to be scrubbed.

[0054] Preferably, the light source (2.4) is positioned at about 5cm, preferably at 5 cm, from the third section (1.3). For different size scrubbing head (3.1, 3.3) the angle of direction of light emitted from the light source (2.4) must be adjusted so that the illumination light would not be obstructed by the scrubbing head (3.1, 3.3) head.

[0055] Preferably, the light source (2.4) attachment means (2.3) is of a snap fit type.

[0056] The electric spin scrubber (ESS) may be combined with:

[0057] - the light source holder (2) holding a light source; and / or

[0058] - the soap dispenser (3.2); and / or

[0059] - the scrubber head (3.1) or dual scrubber head (3.3).

[0060] Preferably, the cleaning solution for filling and refilling the soap dispenser (3.2) has a special formula that removes the above discussed stains as well as is organic and skin safe. Examples of the special formula is presented in Table 1. The percentage in the Table 1 is percentage weight per volume (% w / v).Table 1
