Description

Softening Rods and Perm Rods

[0001] The present invention relates to an eyelash rod, that is, a rod used for perming eyelashes. Specifically, the present invention relates to a so-called softening rod in sheet (thin plate) form used when softening eyelashes, and a so-called perm rod having an expanding portion used when hardening eyelashes.

[0002] When perming eyelashes, a reducing agent (also referred to as "first agent") is allowed to penetrate into the eyelashes to cleave the cystine bonds of the eyelashes. After removing the reducing agent, an oxidizing agent (also referred to as "second agent") is allowed to penetrate into the eyelashes to recombine the cystine bonds and fix the eyelashes in a desired shape.

[0003] A sheet-shaped softening rod is used when allowing the reducing agent to penetrate into the eyelashes, and a perm rod having an expanding portion is used when allowing the oxidizing agent to penetrate into the eyelashes. A perm rod having an expanding portion may also be used as a softening rod. Specifically, with the subject's eyes closed, the softening rod or perm rod is placed on the upper eyelid or lower eyelid so as to cover the area from the inner canthus to the outer canthus. Eyelashes coated with the reducing agent or oxidizing agent will adhere to the softening rod or perm rod. Examples of such softening rods or perm rods include those listed below.

[0004] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-315620, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2005-224288, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-058812

[0005] Patent Document 1 discloses a perm rod in which grooves 3 for fixing eyelashes are formed in a direction intersecting the longitudinal direction of a rod main body 2 formed of an expanding portion.

[0006] Patent Document 2 discloses a perm rod in which a plate-shaped main body base formed of silicone rubber is provided with an eyelash fixing portion 3 serving as an expanding portion.

[0007] Patent Document 3 discloses a perm rod provided with a curl-forming protrusion 6 serving as an expanding portion, and describes that the perm rod is also used as a softening rod for applying a reducing agent.

[0008] The softening rods and perming rods mentioned above are used by placing them on the upper or lower eyelid, covering them from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye, while the patient's eyes are closed. However, in cases where there is an epicanthal fold (so-called Mongolian fold), which is particularly common in Asians, placing a typical softening rod or perming rod on the upper or lower eyelid, covering it from the inner corner to the outer corner, can create a gap between the eyelid and the rod at the inner corner. This can make it difficult for the eyelashes near the inner corner to adhere to the rod, and may prevent complete softening or hardening of the eyelashes near the inner corner.

[0009] Therefore, in view of the above-mentioned points, the object of the present invention is to provide a softening rod and a perming rod that make it easier for the entire eyelash, including the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, to be attached.

[0010] The present invention solves the above problem with a softening rod comprising a flexible sheet-like base, the base comprising a skin contact surface, an eyelash contact surface, and an eyelash-side edge, and having a lacrimal caruncle insertion portion extending in a projection shape from at least one end of the eyelash-side edge, or a perm rod comprising a flexible base having an expandable portion, the base comprising a skin contact surface, an eyelash contact surface, and an eyelash-side edge, and having a lacrimal caruncle insertion portion extending in a projection shape from at least one end of the eyelash-side edge.

[0011] According to the present invention, since at least one of the ends of the eyelash-side edges of the softening rod and the perming rod is provided with a protruding lacrimal caruncle insertion portion, by inserting the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion toward the lacrimal caruncle, the eyelash-side edge can be brought adjacent to the base of the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, making it easier to attach the entire eyelash, including the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye.

[0012] Furthermore, if the eyelash-side edge of the softening rod is configured to have curved and inclined surfaces from the skin contact surface toward the eyelash contact surface, the mucous membrane portion at the base of the eyelashes (hereinafter referred to as "eyelash mucosa") is less likely to be peeled, and the reducing agent can be prevented from adhering to the eyelash mucosa.

[0013] Furthermore, if the eyelash contact surface is configured with multiple scale lines spaced apart and roughly parallel to the side of the eyelash, the length of the eyelashes during treatment can be easily determined.

[0015] Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to Figures 1 to 9. However, the present invention is not limited to these embodiments.

[0016] Figure 1 shows a softening rod 100, which is an embodiment of the present invention. The softening rod 100 comprises a sheet-like base 10 (see Figure 4). The base 10 is made of a flexible material such as silicone, rubber, or synthetic resin.

[0017] The base body 10 has one surface that contacts the eyelashes 11 and the other surface that contacts the skin 13 (see Figure 6). In the case of the softening rod 100, both the eyelash contact surface 11 and the skin contact surface 13 are substantially flat. The base body 10 is preferably formed in a curved shape in advance to match the curved surface of the eyeball, as shown in Figure 4.

[0018] The softening rod 100 has an eyelash-side edge 20. The eyelash-side edge 20 is the edge adjacent to the eyelash when the softening rod 100 is in use. The end of the eyelash-side edge 20 is provided with a projection-shaped lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12 that extends in the direction of extension of the rod (a direction that coincides with the direction from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye; left and right direction in the figure). The lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12 only needs to be provided on at least one end of the eyelash-side edge 20, but may also be provided on both ends. If the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12 is provided on both ends, the softening rod 100 can be made compatible with both the upper and lower eyelashes on the left and right sides.

[0019] The lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12 may come into contact with the lacrimal caruncle or medial canthal fold in some cases, so it is preferable to have a rounded shape rather than a sharp tip. It is also preferable to chamfer the edges to eliminate any corners. The softening rod 100 is provided with a first chamfered portion 18 and a second chamfered portion 19 (see Figure 5).

[0020] When using the softening rod 100, first, place the softening rod 100 on the upper or lower eyelid so that the skin contact surface 13 touches the eyelid, with the eyelash-side edge 20 adjacent to the eyelashes. At this time, insert the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12 toward the lacrimal caruncle. This allows the eyelash-side edge 20 to be adjacent to the base of the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, making it easier to attach the entire eyelash, including the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, to the softening rod 100.

[0021] Incidentally, most general softening rods have a thickness equivalent to that of paper. However, if the softening rod is thin, when eyelashes are attached to the softening rod, the mucous membrane of the eyelashes is easily peeled, and there is a risk that the reducing agent will adhere to the mucous membrane of the eyelashes and cause inflammation. Therefore, as shown in Figure 2, the softening rod 100 has a predetermined thickness, and furthermore, as shown in Figure 3, the eyelash-side edge 20 is configured to have curved surfaces 22, 24 and inclined surfaces 26 extending from the skin contact surface 13 toward the eyelash contact surface 11. With this configuration, when eyelashes are attached to the softening rod 100, the mucous membrane of the eyelashes is less likely to peel, and the reducing agent can be prevented from adhering to the mucous membrane of the eyelashes. Note that in Figure 2, the scale lines 16 have been omitted for convenience.

[0022] The thickness of the softening rod 100 is preferably between 1 mm and 2 mm, and this thickness is sufficient to be present at least in the area where the eyelashes make contact with the eyelash-side edge 20. Although not shown in the illustration, the thickness should be thickest in the center of the rod in the direction of extension of the eyelash-side edge 20, and gradually thin towards both ends. With this configuration, the eyelid is less likely to turn over when the eyelashes are attached to the softening rod 100.

[0023] Furthermore, the curved surfaces 22, 24 and the inclined surface 26 of the eyelash-side edge 20 each have different curvatures. The curvature decreases from the curved surface 22 to the curved surface 24 and then to the inclined surface 26. The interior angle assumed to be on the extension of the skin contact surface 13 and the inclined surface 26 should be in the range of 25° to 40°. The curvatures of the curved surfaces 22 and 24 should be determined so that a smooth surface is formed from the skin contact surface 13 to the inclined surface 26.

[0024] As shown in Figures 1 and 5, the softening rod 100 has multiple scale lines 16 spaced apart on the eyelash contact surface 11, which are approximately parallel to the eyelash side edges 20. The scale lines 16 are formed by grooves carved into the eyelash contact surface 11, but lines may also be printed on the eyelash contact surface 11, or they may be straight lines or dashed lines. In the case of the softening rod 100, five scale lines 16 are provided at 2 mm intervals, but the spacing and number of scale lines 16 can be changed as appropriate. By providing the scale lines 16 in this way, the length of the eyelashes during treatment can be easily determined.

[0025] Furthermore, as shown in Figure 1, the softening rod 100 is configured to have a constricted portion 14 at the end, extending from the eyelash-side edge 20 through the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12. When the constricted portion 14 is included, the softening rod 100 has a shape that extends from the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12 through the constricted portion 14, and then widens further in the same direction as the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 12. This makes it easier for the softening rod 100 to cover the eyelid and prevents the reducing agent from adhering to the eyelid.

[0026] Figure 7 shows a perm rod 200, which is an embodiment of the present invention. The perm rod 200 comprises a base body 30, which also serves as an expansion portion. The base body 30 is made of a flexible material such as silicone, rubber, or synthetic resin. Although a perm rod 200 in which the base body 30, which is the expansion portion, and a sheet-like member are integrally formed is also conceivable, here we will describe a perm rod 200 that comprises only the base body 30, which is the expansion portion.

[0027] The base 30 has one surface that is the eyelash contact surface 31 and the other surface that is the skin contact surface 33. The eyelash contact surface 31 is a curved surface, and its shape is determined by the desired shape of the eyelashes. The skin contact surface 33 is substantially flat. The base 30 is preferably formed in advance with a curved shape to match the curved surface of the eyeball (see also Figure 8).

[0028] The perm rod 200 has an eyelash-side edge 40. The eyelash-side edge 40 is the edge adjacent to the eyelash when the perm rod 200 is in use. The end of the eyelash-side edge 40 is provided with a projection-shaped lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 that extends in the direction of extension of the rod (a direction that coincides with the direction from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye). The lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 only needs to be provided on at least one end of the eyelash-side edge 40, but may also be provided on both ends. If the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 is provided on both ends, the perm rod 200 can be made compatible with both the upper and lower eyelashes on the left and right sides.

[0029] The lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 may come into contact with the lacrimal caruncle or medial canthal fold, so it is preferable to make the tip rounded rather than sharp. It is also preferable to chamfer the edges to eliminate any corners. The lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 can be formed, for example, in the following manner. First, a base body 30 with a roughly semicircular cross-section is formed, and the eyelash contact surface 31 side of its end is sliced to form a sliced surface 37, while also thinning the thickness of the end (see also Figure 9). Next, the sliced surface 37 is notched so as to leave the eyelash-side edge 40 of the sliced surface 37, forming a notch 34. Finally, each edge is chamfered. In this way, the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 can be formed.

[0030] When using the perm rod 200, first, place the perm rod 200 on the upper or lower eyelid so that the eyelash-side edge 40 is adjacent to the eyelash and the skin contact surface 33 is in contact with the eyelid. At this time, insert the lacrimal caruncle insertion portion 32 toward the lacrimal caruncle. This allows the eyelash-side edge 40 to be adjacent to the base of the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, making it easier to attach the entire eyelash, including the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, to the perm rod 200.

[0031] As described above, the present invention provides a softening rod and a perming rod that make it easier for the entire eyelash, including the eyelashes near the inner corner of the eye, to adhere.
