Description

Terminal, Network Node, and Communication Method

[0001] The present invention relates to a terminal, a network node, and a communication method in a communication system.

[0002] In 3GPP (registered trademark) (3rd Generation Partnership Project), to achieve further increase in system capacity, further increase in data transmission speed, further reduction in latency in radio sections, and the like, studies are ongoing on a radio communication system called 5G or NR (New Radio) (hereinafter, this radio communication system is referred to as "5G" or "NR"). In 5G, various radio technologies are being studied to satisfy the requirement that the delay in the radio section is 1 ms or less while achieving a throughput of 10 Gbps or more.

[0003] In NR, network architectures including 5GC (5G Core Network) or 5GS (5G System) corresponding to EPC (Evolved Packet Core), which is the core network in LTE (Long Term Evolution) network architecture, and NG-RAN (Next Generation - Radio Access Network) corresponding to E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network), which is RAN (Radio Access Network) in LTE network architecture, are being studied (e.g., Non-Patent Documents 1-2). Furthermore, in 3GPP, studies on 6G radio communication scheme, the next generation after 5G, have also been started.

[0004] 3GPP TS 23.501 V19.2.1 (2025-01) 3GPP TS 23.502 V19.2.0 (2024-12)

[0005] To realize advanced services with 6G, close cooperation between the network and computing infrastructure is required to reduce user-perceived latency, including data processing time, and to expand the processing capabilities of terminals and the cloud. Therefore, support for In-Network Computing (INC) technology, where the mobile network provides computing resources to users and replaces terminal and cloud processing resources with network resources, is being considered.

[0006] In INC, a scenario is envisioned where a user connects to an XR service provided by a third party, for example, using a mobile device. In this case, the user or the third party requests an INC service from the network, and the network responds to the request by routing to the user's device and modifying policies to use network resources for processing the XR service, thereby providing the INC service.

[0007] However, if the user or a third party does not have sufficient processing resources on their device or the third party's server, they may not be able to use a high-quality service.

[0008] The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and aims to define a mechanism for providing processing resources appropriate to a terminal based on information regarding the terminal's computing processing capabilities in a wireless communication system.

[0009] According to the disclosed technology, a terminal is provided having a control unit that generates a message requesting a change in a PDU (Protocol Data Unit) session, which includes capability information regarding the computing capabilities of the device itself, and a transmission unit that transmits the message to a network node that manages the movement of the terminal.

[0010] According to the disclosed technology, a mechanism can be defined in a wireless communication system to provide processing resources appropriate to a terminal based on information about the terminal's computing processing capabilities.
