Abstract
Description
Mounting Structure for Shock Absorber
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a mounting structure for a shock absorber.
[0002] Patent Document 1 describes a suspension mounting portion structure in which an upper end portion of a shock absorber is mounted to a cross member via a bracket, and an upper end portion of a spring is mounted to a side member via a bracket separate from the above bracket.
[0003] Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2017-210141
[0004] The suspension mounting portion structure described in Patent Document 1 is provided at a corner where a side member and a cross member connect, since it includes a bracket for mounting the upper end portion of the shock absorber to the cross member and a bracket for mounting the upper end portion of the spring to the side member. A force that causes torsion may be applied to a vehicle body frame constituted by side members and a cross member, and if a member for connecting the side members and the cross member is provided, torsion of the vehicle body frame can be suppressed. However, in the suspension mounting portion structure of Patent Document 1, since the brackets for respectively mounting the shock absorber and the spring to the cross member and the side member are separate bodies, it does not have the effect of suppressing torsion of the vehicle body frame.
[0005] In view of the above circumstances, an object of at least one embodiment of the present disclosure is to provide a mounting structure for mounting a shock absorber to a vehicle body frame of a vehicle, which can suppress torsion of the vehicle body frame.
[0006] To achieve the above object, a shock absorber mounting structure according to the present disclosure is a shock absorber mounting structure that is mounted to a vehicle body frame of a vehicle via a main body bracket, wherein the main body bracket includes a first fixing portion fixed to one of a pair of side members constituting the vehicle body frame, and a second fixing portion fixed to a cross member having one end and the other end respectively fixed to each of the pair of side members.
[0007] According to the shock absorber mounting structure of this disclosure, since the main body bracket is fixed to one of the pair of side members and to the cross member, it is possible to suppress the twisting of the vehicle body frame when a force that causes twisting is applied to the vehicle body frame.
[0008] This is an upper perspective view of a mounting structure according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. This is a lower perspective view of the mounting structure of Figure 1. This is an upper perspective view of a mounting structure according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. This is an upper perspective view of a mounting structure according to yet another embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0009] The mounting structure according to the embodiments of this disclosure will be described below with reference to the drawings. The embodiments described below represent one aspect of this disclosure and are not limiting, and can be modified at will within the scope of the technical idea of this disclosure.
[0010] As shown in Figure 1, a mounting structure according to one embodiment of the present disclosure is a mounting structure 1 for a shock absorber that is attached to the vehicle body frame via two main brackets 5. The vehicle body frame 2 comprises a pair of side members 3a and 3b, and a cross member 4 to which one end 4a and the other end 4b are fixed to each of the pair of side members 3a and 3b. Only one side member 3a is shown in Figure 1, and the other side member 3b is shown in Figure 3. The other end 4b of the cross member 4 is also shown in Figure 3.
[0011] The main bracket 5 includes a first fixing portion 5b for fixing the main bracket 5 to the side member 3a and a second fixing portion 5c for fixing the main bracket 5 to the cross member 4. The specific configurations of the first fixing portion 5b and the second fixing portion 5c are not particularly limited, but for example, they may have a flange-like configuration formed by bending a part of the outer portion 5e that surrounds the inner portion 5d of the main bracket 5 in which the hole 5a is formed. The main bracket 5 may also have a hole 5a formed therein for connecting to a shock absorber that is attached to the vehicle body frame 2.
[0012] When the first fixing portion 5b and the second fixing portion 5c have such flange-like configurations, the first fixing portion 5b can be fixed, for example, to the side surface 3a1 of the side member 3a that faces inward in the vehicle width direction, and the second fixing portion 5c can be fixed, for example, to both the side surface (front surface 4c) of the cross member 4 that faces forward in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle (the direction in which the pair of side members 3a and 3b extend) and the upper surface 4d that faces upward towards the vehicle frame 2.
[0013] A shock absorber (not shown) is fixed to the main body bracket 5 with its upper end piping inserted into hole 5a. In this way, the shock absorber is attached to the vehicle frame 2 by the mounting structure 1. Figure 1 shows the mounting structure 1 for a shock absorber located on the left side in the vehicle width direction when viewing the vehicle, including the vehicle frame 2, from rear to front. However, a shock absorber located on the right side in the vehicle width direction can also be attached to the vehicle frame 2 by the mounting structure 1.
[0014] When a vehicle, including the body frame 2, is in motion, forces that cause twisting of the body frame 2 may be applied. In contrast, the mounting structure 1 has the main bracket 5 fixed to the side member 3a and the cross member 4 respectively, so that when forces that cause twisting of the body frame 2 are applied, the twisting of the body frame 2 can be suppressed.
[0015] The mounting structure 1 may also include a pair of side members 3a and 3b, a cross member 4, and a main bracket 5, as well as a first connecting member 6 that connects the parts of the main bracket 5 other than the first fixing part 5b and the second fixing part 5c to the cross member 4. This increases the fixing strength of the main bracket 5 to the cross member 4, making it able to withstand the input from the shock absorber even more, and also improves the effect of suppressing twisting of the vehicle frame 2.
[0016] As shown in Figure 2, the mounting structure 1 may include a second connecting member 7 in place of the first connecting member 6, or in addition to the first connecting member 6, which connects the portion of the main bracket 5 other than the first fixing portion 5b and the second fixing portion 5c to the side member 3a. This allows the above-mentioned effects obtained by including the first connecting member 6 in the mounting structure 1 to be obtained. Furthermore, these effects are further improved when the mounting structure 1 includes both the first connecting member 6 and the second connecting member 7.
[0017] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the outer portion 5e of the main bracket 5 is configured to extend downward from the periphery of the inner portion 5d to the vehicle frame 2, and the mounting structure 1 may further include a reinforcing member 8 that covers at least a portion of the outer portion 5e other than the first fixing portion 5b and the second fixing portion 5c. The reinforcing member 8 may be provided in place of or together with at least one of the first connecting member 6 or the second connecting member 7.
[0018] When the main bracket 5 receives input from the shock absorber, or when a force that causes twisting is applied to the vehicle frame 2, a force that deforms the main bracket 5 is applied to the main bracket 5. By providing such a reinforcing member 8, the deformation of the main bracket 5 can be suppressed.
[0019] In Figures 1 and 2, the first connecting member 6 was fixed only to the front surface 4c of the cross member 4, but the configuration is not limited to this. As shown in Figure 3, the first connecting member 6 may be configured to be connected not only to the front surface 4c of the cross member 4, but also to the upper surface 4d of the cross member 4. This further increases the fixing strength of the main body bracket 5 to the cross member 4 by the first connecting member 6, so that it can withstand the input from the shock absorber even more, and the effect of suppressing twisting of the vehicle frame 2 is also improved.
[0020] In Figures 1 and 2, the first connecting member 6 is fixed to the outer surface of the outer portion 5e, which is configured to extend downward from the periphery of the inner portion 5d to the lower part of the vehicle frame 2, but the configuration is not limited to this. As shown in Figure 3, the first connecting member 6 may also be fixed to the inner surface of the outer portion 5e.
[0021] As shown in Figure 4, the first connecting member 6 may be provided along the lower end 5f of at least a portion of the outer portion 5e, which is configured to extend downward from the periphery of the inner portion 5d to the vehicle frame 2, excluding the first fixing portion 5b and the second fixing portion 5c. In this configuration as well, the first connecting member 6 connects the portion of the main bracket 5 excluding the first fixing portion 5b and the second fixing portion 5c to the cross member 4. The first connecting member 6 increases the fixing strength of the main bracket 5 to the cross member 4, making it more resistant to input from the shock absorber and improving the effect of suppressing twisting of the vehicle frame 2.
[0022] In Figure 4, the first connecting member 6 does not extend to the side member 3a. However, the first connecting member 6 may be configured to extend to the side member 3a and be fixed to the side surface 3a1 of the side member 3a, thereby further connecting the side member 3a to the parts of the main bracket 5 other than the first fixing part 5b and the second fixing part 5c. This provides the same effects and advantages as the configuration in Figures 1 and 2 in which both the first connecting member 6 and the second connecting member 7 are provided.
[0023] In the configurations shown in Figures 1 to 4, the second connecting member 7 was fixed to the front surface 4c and the upper surface 4d of the cross member 4, but it may also be fixed to the rear surface 4d facing the rear of the vehicle and the upper surface 4d of the cross member 4.
[0024] In the above description, the directions "up" and "down" of the vehicle frame 2 were used without definition. When the vehicle frame 2 is mounted on a vehicle, one side faces upward and the other side faces downward. The above-mentioned "up" and "down" refer to the direction in which the vehicle frame 2 faces upward when mounted on a vehicle, and the direction in which the vehicle frame 2 faces downward. The same applies to the claims.
