Description

Apparatus and Method

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and a method.

[0002] Patent Document 1 discloses a configuration of a telephone device, comprising: determination means for determining whether a call is from a fraudster; warning means for notifying that the call is from a fraudster; and means for notifying a pre-registered reporting destination by e-mail that a call has been received from a fraudster when it is determined that the call is from a fraudster.

[0003] Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 2007-96962

[0004] Information related to fraud victims is useful information for the police in arresting fraud perpetrators. However, it is difficult to obtain such information from the perspective of protecting the privacy of fraud victims. Therefore, it is desirable that fraud victims themselves provide information to the police. In the technology of Patent Document 1, although a user is warned that a call is from a fraudster, no warning that prompts the victim to go to the police is provided.

[0005] An object of the present disclosure is to provide an apparatus and a method capable of prompting fraud victims to provide information to the police.

[0006] The apparatus of the present disclosure comprises: a fraud call determination unit that determines whether a call is a fraudulent call based on voice information of a call between a perpetrator terminal and a victim terminal; a police facility information acquisition unit that acquires police facility information about the nearest police facility from the victim terminal; and a notification unit that, when it is determined that the call is a fraudulent call, outputs a notification including a message prompting a user of the victim terminal to provide information to the nearest police facility and the police facility information to the victim terminal.

[0007] According to the above apparatus, police facility information about the nearest police facility is notified to the victim terminal together with a message prompting the user to provide information to the nearest police facility. This allows the user of the victim terminal to know which police facility they should provide information to. As a result, it becomes easy for the user of the victim terminal to provide information to the nearest police facility. As described above, it becomes possible to prompt fraud victims to provide information to the police.

[0008] This disclosure will encourage victims of fraud to provide information to the police.

[0009] Figure 1 is a conceptual diagram showing the notification method of this disclosure. Figure 2 is a schematic diagram of a system including a notification device according to one embodiment of this disclosure. Figure 3 is a diagram showing an example of data stored in the police facility database. Figure 4 is a diagram showing an example of data stored in the user information database. Figure 5 is a flowchart of the notification method performed by the notification device shown in Figure 1. Figures 6(a) to (c) are diagrams showing examples of notification display on the victim terminal. Figure 7 is a diagram showing an example of the hardware configuration of the notification device according to one embodiment of this disclosure.

[0010] Embodiments of this disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the drawings. In the description of the drawings, the same elements are denoted by the same reference numerals, and redundant descriptions are omitted.

[0011] Figure 1 is a conceptual diagram illustrating the notification method of this disclosure. In Figure 1, criminal C makes a fraudulent call to victim terminal 3 of potential victim V (user) using perpetrator terminal 2 (see Figure 2). Victim terminal 3 transmits the audio information of the call to notification device 10. Notification device 10 analyzes the audio information to determine whether the call is a fraudulent call. If notification device 10 determines that the call is a fraudulent call, it outputs a message to victim terminal 3 prompting Victim Terminal 3 to provide information to the nearest police facility, and Victim Terminal 3 receives the message. Victim candidate V confirms the message and provides information to the nearest police facility PO.

[0012] Referring to Figure 2, a system 1 including a notification device 10 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure will be described. Figure 2 is a schematic configuration diagram of a system 1 including a notification device 10 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0013] The system 1 shown in Figure 2 is a system for detecting fraudulent phone calls and prompting potential victims V to provide information to the nearest police station. System 1 includes a perpetrator terminal 2, a victim terminal 3, and a notification device 10. The notification device 10 is connected to the victim terminal 3 via a network so as to be able to communicate with it.

[0014] Perpetrator device 2 is a smartphone or mobile phone used by criminal C. Victim device 3 is a smartphone or mobile phone used by potential victim V.

[0015] The notification device 10 includes a voice information acquisition unit 11, a fraudulent call detection unit 12, a call detection unit 13, a police facility information acquisition unit 14, a user information acquisition unit 15, a notification unit 16, a police facility database 20, a user information database 30, and a voice analysis AI 40.

[0016] The voice information acquisition unit 11 acquires voice information, which is the audio of a conversation between the perpetrator terminal 2 and the victim terminal 3. For example, the voice information acquisition unit 11 acquires voice information output from the victim terminal 3. The voice information acquisition unit 11 may recognize the voice information using a known method. For example, the voice information acquisition unit 11 may convert the voice information into text information.

[0017] The fraudulent call detection unit 12 determines whether or not a call is a fraudulent call.

[0018] The call determination unit 13 determines whether or not the call has ended.

[0019] The police facility information acquisition unit 14 acquires police facility information concerning the nearest police facility to the victim terminal 3. A police facility refers to a facility established for the purpose of carrying out police duties. Examples of police facilities include the Metropolitan Police Department, police stations, police boxes, and police substations. Examples of police facility information include the name of the nearest police facility and the location information of the nearest police facility. Location information may include, for example, latitude and longitude.

[0020] The user information acquisition unit 15 acquires user information from the victim terminal 3 that should be provided to the nearest police facility. User information is information about the potential victim V themselves. User information is useful information for the police in arresting criminal C. Examples of user information include name, age, gender, address, marital history, occupation, and family structure.

[0021] The notification unit 16 outputs a notification to the victim terminal 3.

[0022] Figure 3 shows an example of data stored in the police facility database 20. For example, the police facility database 20 stores the name of the police facility and the location information of the police facility.

[0023] Figure 4 shows an example of data stored in the user information database 30. For example, the user information database 30 stores multiple items including name, age, gender, address, marital history, occupation, and family structure, as well as registration details associated with each item. The registration details are pre-entered into the notification device 10 by, for example, the victim candidate V.

[0024] The voice analysis AI 40 determines whether a call is a scam call based on the voice information or text information acquired by the voice information acquisition unit 11. For example, the voice analysis AI 40 is an AI model that outputs a determination result indicating whether a call is a scam call in response to the input of voice information or text information. The voice analysis AI 40 may also determine that a call is a scam call if the content of the call contains a predetermined phrase.

[0025] The notification method performed by the notification device 10 will be explained with reference to Figure 5. Figure 5 is a flowchart of the notification method performed by the notification device 10 shown in Figure 1.

[0026] In step S1, the voice information acquisition unit 11 acquires voice information output from the victim terminal 3.

[0027] In step S2, the fraudulent call detection unit 12 determines whether the call is a fraudulent call based on the voice information. For example, the fraudulent call detection unit 12 inputs the voice information to the voice analysis AI 40 and obtains a determination result from the voice analysis AI 40. Based on this, the fraudulent call detection unit 12 determines whether the call is a fraudulent call. The fraudulent call detection unit 12 may also perform the determination process based on text information converted from the voice information.

[0028] In step S2, if it is determined that the call is not a scam call, the process is terminated (step S2: NO). In step S2, if it is determined that the call is a scam call, the process proceeds to step S3 (step S2: YES).

[0029] In step S3, the call determination unit 13 determines whether the call has ended. For example, the call determination unit 13 determines that the call has ended if there is a period of silence in the audio information for a certain amount of time. Alternatively, the call determination unit 13 determines that the call has ended if the victim terminal 3 transitions from a call state to a no-call state. The call determination unit 13 may also perform the determination process based on text information converted from the audio information.

[0030] If it is determined in step S3 that the call has not ended, step S3 is executed again (step S3: NO). In other words, step S3 is repeatedly executed until the call ends. If it is determined in step S3 that the call has ended, the process moves to step S4 (step S3: YES).

[0031] In step S4, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 acquires the location information of the victim terminal 3. For example, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 acquires the location information of the victim terminal 3 obtained by GPS or the like. This location information is, for example, latitude and longitude.

[0032] In step S5, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 accesses the police facility database 20.

[0033] In step S6, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 acquires police facility information regarding the nearest police facility. For example, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 compares the police facility database 20 with the location information of the victim terminal 3 and acquires police facility information that includes the name of the police facility closest to the location information of the victim terminal 3 as the name of the nearest police facility. More specifically, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 determines that the police facility is the nearest police facility if the distance between the location information of the victim terminal 3 and the location information of the police facility is the shortest. The police facility information acquisition unit 14 acquires police facility information from the police facility database 20 that includes the name of the nearest police facility and the location information of the nearest police facility. The police facility information may include only the name of the nearest police facility. In the following explanation, the nearest police facility will be referred to as XX Police Station.

[0034] The police facility database 20 also stores the type of police facility associated with it, and the police facility information acquisition unit 14 may use this information. For example, the type may be a police box, police station, police post, etc. The police facility information acquisition unit 14 may acquire police facility information based on the type. Generally, it is considered better to notify the police station that manages the entire area rather than a police box about crimes such as fraud.

[0035] The police facility information acquisition unit 14 may acquire police facility information concerning the police facility closest to the victim terminal 3 among the police facilities within the jurisdiction of the victim terminal 3's location information. It is considered desirable to notify the police facility that manages the victim's area. For example, it may not be desirable to notify a police facility that is geographically close but crosses prefectural or municipal boundaries.

[0036] In this disclosure, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 identifies (acquires) the police jurisdiction units, such as prefectures and municipalities, from the location information of the victim terminal 3, and acquires police facilities that match those prefectures and municipalities (jurisdictional units). For example, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 extracts the names of prefectures and municipalities from the location information and acquires police facilities that include those names.

[0037] In step S7, the user information acquisition unit 15 accesses the user information database 30.

[0038] In step S8, the user information acquisition unit 15 acquires user information. For example, the user information acquisition unit 15 acquires user information from the user information database 30. The user information includes, for example, multiple items such as name, age, gender, address, marital history, occupation, and family structure, and registration details associated with each item.

[0039] In step S9, the notification unit 16 outputs a notification to the victim terminal 3 containing a message prompting the potential victim V to provide information to the nearest police station, as well as information about the police station. Examples of such messages include "Please go to the nearest police station," "Please inform the nearest police station that you received a fraudulent phone call," and "Please provide information to the nearest police station." The notification may include items of information to be provided to the police (items of user information). The notification may also include registered content corresponding to the items of information to be provided to the police (registered content of user information). The notification may also include user information including the above-mentioned items and registered content.

[0040] Figures 6(a) to (c) show examples of how notifications are displayed on the victim terminal 3. In the examples of Figures 6(a) to (c), the notification includes a message encouraging the victim to provide information to the nearest police station, stating, "Please go to the nearest police station (XX Police Station) and inform them that you may have received a fraudulent phone call!" The notification includes the name of the nearest police station, "XX Police Station," as police station information. The notification includes items of information to be provided to the police, such as "Data to tell the police: Name / Age / Address / Gender / Address / Marital history / Occupation / Family, etc." Upon receiving this notification, the potential victim V can understand that they only need to provide information such as their name to the XX Police Station. In this case, it is assumed that the potential victim V will prepare the information corresponding to each item themselves. The notification may further include registration details corresponding to each item (i.e., it may include user information obtained in step S8). In this case, since the registration details are automatically notified, the potential victim V does not need to prepare the information corresponding to each item themselves. The notification may also include a message encouraging the victim to provide voice information to the nearest police station.

[0041] As shown in Figure 6(a), the notification unit 16 may display the notification on the screen of the victim terminal 3. As shown in Figure 6(b), the notification unit 16 may send the notification to the victim terminal 3 as an email. As shown in Figure 6(c), the notification unit 16 may send the notification to the victim terminal 3 as a short message.

[0042] In the notification device 10 and notification method described above, police facility information related to the nearest police facility is notified to the victim terminal together with a message prompting provision of information to the nearest police facility. This allows the victim candidate V to know which police facility to provide the information to. As a result, it becomes easy for the victim candidate V to provide information to the nearest police facility. As described above, it is possible to encourage fraud victims to provide information to the police.

[0043] If it is determined that the call has ended (step S3: YES), in step S9, the notification unit 16 outputs a notification to the victim terminal 3. According to this configuration, since the notification is sent after the call has ended, the victim candidate V is likely to notice the notification easily. Therefore, it is possible to more reliably encourage fraud victims to provide information to the police.

[0044] In step S6, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 acquires police facility information related to the police facility nearest to the victim terminal 3 based on the position information of the victim terminal 3. According to this configuration, police facility information can be easily acquired.

[0045] In step S6, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 compares the police facility database 20 with the position information of the victim terminal 3, and acquires police facility information that includes the name of the police facility closest to the position information of the victim terminal 3 as the name of the nearest police facility. According to this configuration, the name of the nearest police facility can be easily acquired. In addition, by notifying the name of the nearest police facility, the victim candidate V can easily know where the nearest police facility is.

[0046] The police facility database 20 may further store the types of police facilities in association with each other, and in step S6, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 may acquire the police facility information based on said types. According to this configuration, it is possible to encourage the provision of information to an appropriate police facility.

[0047] In step S6, the police facility information acquisition unit 14 may acquire police facility information related to the police facility closest to the victim terminal 3 among police facilities located in the jurisdiction corresponding to the position information of the victim terminal 3. According to this configuration, it is possible to prompt the user to provide information to an appropriate police facility.

[0048] In step S9, the notification unit 16 may output a notification including user information to the victim terminal 3. According to this configuration, the victim candidate V can easily grasp which information should be provided to the police.

[0049] In step S9, the notification unit 16 may cause the notification to be displayed on the screen of the victim terminal 3. The notification unit 16 may transmit the notification to the victim terminal 3 as an email. The notification unit 16 may transmit the notification to the victim terminal 3 as a short message. According to this configuration, the victim candidate V can easily check the notification.

[0050] Heretofore, one embodiment of the present disclosure has been described in detail, but the present disclosure is not limited to the above embodiment. Various modifications can be made to the apparatus and method according to the present disclosure without departing from the gist thereof.

[0051] In step S9, the notification does not need to include user information. In this case, step S7 and step S8 may be omitted.

[0052] The notification unit 16 may output the notification to the victim terminal 3 before the call between the perpetrator terminal 2 and the victim terminal 3 ends (that is, during the call). In this case, step S3 may be omitted.

[0088] In this disclosure, terms such as "Mobile Station (MS)," "user terminal," "User Equipment (UE)," and "terminal" may be used interchangeably.

[0089] A mobile station may also be referred to by those skilled in the art as a subscriber station, mobile unit, subscriber unit, wireless unit, remote unit, mobile device, wireless device, wireless communication device, remote device, mobile subscriber station, access terminal, mobile terminal, wireless terminal, remote terminal, handset, user agent, mobile client, client, or several other appropriate terms.

[0090] As used in this disclosure, the terms “determining” and “determining” may encompass a wide variety of actions. “Determining” may be considered, for example, judging, calculating, computing, processing, deriving, investigating, looking up, search, inquiry (e.g., searching in tables, databases, or other data structures), ascertaining, etc. “Determining” may be considered receiving (e.g., receiving information), transmitting (e.g., sending information), input, output, accessing (e.g., accessing data in memory), etc. “Determining” may be considered resolving, selecting, choosing, establishing, comparing, etc. In other words, “determining” and “determining” may include being considered any action related to “determining” and “determining.” "Judgment (decision)" can be replaced with "assuming," "expecting," or "considering."

[0091] The terms “connected,” “coupled,” or any variation thereof, mean any direct or indirect connection or coupling between two or more elements, and may include the presence of one or more intermediate elements between two elements that are “connected” or “coupled” with each other. The coupling or connection between elements may be physical, logical, or a combination thereof. For example, “connection” may be reinterpreted as “access.” Where “connected” or “coupled” is used in this disclosure, two elements may be considered to be “connected” or “coupled” with each other using at least one of one or more wires, cables, and printed electrical connections, and may also be considered to be “connected” or “coupled” with each other using, in some non-limiting and non-exclusive examples, electromagnetic energy having wavelengths in the radio frequency domain, microwave domain, and optical (both visible and invisible) domain.

[0092] As used in this disclosure, the phrase "based on" does not mean "based solely on" unless otherwise specified. In other words, the phrase "based on" means both "based solely on" and "based on at least."

[0093] Any reference to elements using designations such as “first” and “second” as used in this disclosure does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. These designations may be used in this disclosure as a convenient way to distinguish between two or more elements. Accordingly, references to the first and second elements do not imply that only two elements may be employed, nor that the first element must precede the second element in any way.

[0094] Where the terms “include,” “including,” and variations thereof are used in this disclosure, these terms are intended to be inclusive, as is the term “comprising.” Furthermore, the term “or” as used in this disclosure is not intended to mean exclusive OR.

[0095] In this disclosure, if articles are added through translation, such as "a," "an," and "the" in English, this disclosure may include the fact that the noun following these articles is plural.

[0096] In this disclosure, the term "A and B are different" may mean "A and B are different from each other." The term may also mean "A and B are each different from C." Terms such as "separate" and "combine" may also be interpreted similarly to "different."
