Description

Straddle-type vehicle

[0001] The present invention relates to a straddle-type vehicle.

[0002] Conventionally, a straddle-type vehicle including a unit swing engine, in which an air cleaner box is arranged on the side of a tire, is known. In such a straddle-type vehicle, a technique for suppressing dust stirred up in a tire house from entering an intake duct of the air cleaner box is known (see, for example, Patent Document 1). In Patent Document 1, a flexible dust-proof plate is arranged around the opening of the intake duct to suppress dust from entering the opening of the intake duct. In Patent Document 1, the dust-proof plate is supported by a vehicle body frame.

[0003] Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 10-007059

[0004] However, in the technique described in Patent Document 1, since the flexible dust-proof plate is structured to be attached to the vehicle body frame, it is necessary to form a mounting portion for the dust-proof plate on the vehicle body frame, and there is a problem that processing on the vehicle body frame and the mounting work for attaching the dust-proof plate tend to be complicated. The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a straddle-type vehicle including a dust-proof structure in which processing work on a vehicle body frame is easily suppressed and mounting work to the vehicle is simple.

[0005] This specification includes the entire content of Japanese Patent Application No. 2025-055147 filed on March 28, 2025. The straddle-type vehicle includes a vehicle body cover, a unit swing engine, an air cleaner box supported by the unit swing engine and arranged on a side of a tire, an intake duct opening provided in the air cleaner box and opened toward an outer side in a vehicle width direction in front of the tire, and a dust-proof rubber positioned between the tire and the intake duct opening, wherein the vehicle body cover includes an extending portion extending inward in the vehicle width direction from an inner surface in the vehicle width direction, and the extending portion supports the dust-proof rubber.

[0006] This allows for the provision of a saddle-type vehicle equipped with a dustproof structure that minimizes the need for processing work on the vehicle body frame and simplifies installation on the vehicle.

The leg shield 42 is connected to the rear of the front cover 41 and covers the head pipe 21 and down frame 22 from the rear. The floor cover 43 is connected to the lower end of the leg shield 42 and covers the lower frame 23 from above. The floor cover 43 constitutes the floor section 18. The floor side covers 44 are positioned on the left and right sides of the floor cover 43 and cover the lower frame 23 from the left and right sides. The under cover 45 is connected to the lower ends of the left and right floor side covers 44 and covers the lower frame 23 from below.

[0016] The underseat cover 46 is positioned below the front of the seat 17 and is connected to the rear end of the floor cover 43. The underseat side cover 47 extends rearward from the side of the underseat cover 46 and covers the rising frame portion 25 of the rear frame 24 from the left and right outer sides. The rear side cover 48 extends rearward from the side of the underseat cover 46 and covers the underseat side cover 47 and the rear frame 24 from the left and right sides. The rear cover 49 is positioned between the left and right rear side covers 48 and covers the rear of the vehicle body from the rear.

[0017] As shown in Figure 1, a front fender 38 is attached to the front fork 15, covering the front wheel 14 from above. Additionally, a rear fender 39 is attached to the rear frame 24, covering the rear wheel 12 from above.

[0018] Figure 2 is a left side view of the area around the seat 17, showing the saddle-type vehicle 10 shown in Figure 1 with the floor side cover 44 and rear side cover 48 removed. Figure 3 is a left side view of the area around the seat 17, showing the area from Figure 2 with the under-seat side cover 47 removed. The underside of the seat 17 is covered from the left and right outer sides by the left and right under-seat side covers 47 and the rear side cover 48. A luggage box 35 is located below the seat 17. The luggage box 35 is supported by the left and right rear frames 24. A fuel tank 36 is located behind the luggage box 35. The fuel tank 36 is supported by the rear extension frame portions 26 of the left and right rear frames 24.

[0019] The seat 17 is supported by the rear frame 24 via the luggage box 35. The seat 17 extends in the front-rear direction. The seat 17 comprises a front rider seat portion 17a and a pillion seat portion 17b located behind the rider seat portion 17a. At its front end, the seat 17 is supported by the luggage box 35 so as to be openable and closable by a hinge shaft extending in the left-right direction. When the seat 17 is opened, the occupant can access the luggage box 35 and the fuel tank 36 from above.

[0020] A pillion step 37 is positioned on the lower front side of the pillion seat portion 17b. The pillion step 37 is supported by the rear frame 24 via a step bracket 27. More specifically, the step bracket 27 is connected to the upper and lower intermediate portion of the rising frame portion 25 of the rear frame 24. The step bracket 27 extends rearward and downward relative to the rising frame portion 25, and the pillion step 37 is rotatably supported at its tip. The step bracket 27 is provided with a cover fixing portion 27a (see Figure 3).

[0021] Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line IV-IV in Figure 1. Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line V-V in Figure 1. The air cleaner box 33 extends in the front-rear direction when viewed from the side of the vehicle body. The air cleaner box 33 has a box case 51 that is recessed inward in the vehicle width direction and a box cover 52 that is recessed outward in the vehicle width direction. The internal space S33 (see Figure 5) of the air cleaner box 33 is formed by the combined structure of the box case 51 and the box cover 52. A filter element 53 is positioned between the box case 51 and the box cover 52.

[0022] The filter element 53 divides the internal space S33 into a dirty side S33a and a clean side S33b. An intake duct 54 is located on the dirty side S33a. The intake duct 54 extends forward. The intake duct 54 is connected to an intake port (intake duct opening) 52a formed on the front of the box cover 52. Therefore, air is drawn into the dirty side S33a via the intake port 52a and the intake duct 54. The intake port 52a faces outward in the vehicle width direction. In a side view of the vehicle body, the intake port 52a overlaps with the pillion step 37 (see Figure 3). The intake port 52a is located inward in the vehicle width direction from the outer end of the vehicle body cover 40, that is, from the outer end of the seat under side cover 47 (see Figure 4).

[0023] A connecting tube 55 is positioned on the clean side S33b. After being led out of the box case 51 to the outside, the connecting tube 55 bends inward in the vehicle width direction and then bends forward. The front end of the connecting tube 55 is connected to the throttle body 56. The throttle body 56 is connected to the intake port of the cylinder section of the engine 31 via the intake pipe 57. The intake system 50 of this embodiment is composed of the air cleaner box 33, the connecting tube 55, the throttle body 56, and the intake pipe 57.

[0024] A hugger fender 59 is supported at the inner end of the air cleaner box 33 in the vehicle width direction. The hugger fender 59 covers the front upper part of the rear wheel 12. The rear wheel 12 has a wheel 12b (see Figure 5) supported on the axle 12a and a tire 12c (see Figure 5) supported on the wheel 12b. The tire 12c rotates while inside the wheel well S12. The wheel well S12 is a space below the rear fender 39. In the wheel well S12, dirt and dust are kicked up by the rotation of the rear wheel 12.

[0025] Figure 6 is a view of the left floor side cover 44, the under-seat side cover 47, and the rear side cover 48 from the inside in the vehicle width direction. Figure 7 is an enlarged view of Figure 6 showing the periphery of the manifold chamber 60 provided in the under-seat side cover 47. As shown in Figures 2, 6, and 7, the under-seat side cover 47 extends in the vertical direction. In a side view of the vehicle, the under-seat side cover 47 extends upward from the rear end of the floor side cover 44 to the rider seat portion 17a.

[0026] The under-seat side cover 47 of this embodiment has an upper cover portion 47a, a middle cover portion 47b formed below the upper cover portion 47a, and a lower cover portion 47c formed below the middle cover portion 47b. The upper cover portion 47a is fixed to the left and right outer sides of the upper end of the under-seat cover 46. The lower cover portion 47c is fixed to the cover fixing portion 27a (see Figure 3) of the step bracket 27.

[0027] An opening 47b1 is formed in the central part 47b of the cover, penetrating in the vehicle width direction. The opening 47b1 is an elongated hole that extends upward towards the rear. Below the opening 47b1, a manifold chamber portion 60 is formed, extending inward in the vehicle width direction. The manifold chamber portion 60 bulges out toward the rising frame portion 25 of the left rear frame 24. A dustproof rubber 110 is supported at the inner end of the manifold chamber portion 60 in the vehicle width direction.

[0028] Figure 8 is a perspective view showing the manifold chamber 60 with the dustproof rubber 110 removed. Figure 9 shows the manifold chamber 60 cut off from Figure 8, with the ceiling portions 75, 85, 95 and connecting portions 61, 62 removed. The manifold chamber 60 comprises multiple chamber portions 70, 80, 90 spaced apart in the front-rear direction. In this embodiment, it comprises three chamber portions 70, 80, 90. The first chamber portion (chamber portion, extension portion) 70 has a front wall portion 71, a rear wall portion 72 facing the front wall portion 71, an upper wall portion (leg portion) 73 connecting the upper end of the front wall portion 71 and the upper end of the rear wall portion 72, a lower wall portion (leg portion) 74 connecting the lower end of the front wall portion 71 and the lower end of the rear wall portion 72, and a ceiling portion 75 that closes off the enclosed shape of the front wall portion 71, the rear wall portion 72, the upper wall portion 73 and the lower wall portion 74 from the inner end side in the vehicle width direction.

[0029] Similarly, a second chamber section 80 and a third chamber section 90 are constructed. That is, the second chamber section (chamber section, extension) 80 has a front wall section 81, a rear wall section 82, an upper wall section (leg section) 83, a lower wall section (leg section) 84, and a ceiling section 85, corresponding to the front wall section 71, rear wall section 72, upper wall section 73, lower wall section 74, and ceiling section 75 of the first chamber section 70. The third chamber section (chamber section, extension) 90 has a front wall section 91, a rear wall section 92, an upper wall section (leg section) 93, a lower wall section (leg section) 94, and a ceiling section 95, corresponding to the front wall section 71, rear wall section 72, upper wall section 73, lower wall section 74, and ceiling section 75 of the first chamber section 70.

[0030] The space between the first chamber section 70 and the second chamber section 80 forms an air guide passage S1 through which the airflow can pass, as indicated by arrow A1 (see Figures 2 and 5). The space between the second chamber section 80 and the third chamber section 90 forms an air guide passage S2 through which the airflow can pass, as indicated by arrow A2 (see Figures 2 and 5).

[0031] The ceiling portion 75 of the first chamber portion 70 and the ceiling portion 85 of the second chamber portion 80 are connected by a plate-shaped connecting portion 61 (see Figure 8). In other words, the inner end side of the air duct S1 in the vehicle width direction is closed by the connecting portion 61. Also, the ceiling portion 85 of the second chamber portion 80 and the ceiling portion 95 of the third chamber portion 90 are connected by a plate-shaped connecting portion 62 (see Figure 8). In other words, the inner end side of the air duct S2 in the vehicle width direction is closed by the connecting portion 62.

[0032] In the collective chamber section 60, a front opening 71a is formed in the front wall section 71 of the first chamber section 70, penetrating in the thickness direction. Also in the collective chamber section 60, a rear opening 92a is formed in the rear wall section 92 of the third chamber section 90, penetrating in the thickness direction. Furthermore, in the collective chamber section 60, as shown in Figure 9, openings 72a, 81a, 82a, and 91a are formed in the rear wall section 72, front wall section 81, rear wall section 82, and front wall section 91, which are located between the front opening 71a and the rear opening 92a, and are cut out from the outside in the vehicle width direction toward the inside in the vehicle width direction. Therefore, in a view from a certain direction, the chamber sections 70, 80, and 90 are U-shaped arches composed of upper wall sections 73, 83, and 93, lower wall sections 74, 84, and 94, and ceiling sections 75, 85, and 95.

[0033] In the manifold chamber 60, as indicated by arrow A4 (see Figure 7), an air guide passage S4 is configured that allows airflow to pass through in the direction from the first chamber 70 to the third chamber 90. The air guide passage S4 intersects with the air guide passages S1 and S2. Here, the front opening 71a and the rear openings 92a, 72a, 81a, 82a, and 91a have different sizes. For example, in the openings 72a, 81a, 82a, and 91a, the opening size increases in the order of opening 72a, opening 91a, opening 81a, and 82a. Therefore, the airflow can easily accumulate in the air guide passage S4, forming a chamber shape. In the manifold chamber 60, the airflow coming from the front of the vehicle is allowed to escape to the rear to a moderate extent, while also being able to be retained in the manifold chamber 60 to a moderate extent.

[0034] A claw-shaped dustproof rubber support portion 76 is formed on the ceiling portion 75 of the first chamber portion 70. The dustproof rubber support portion 76 is L-shaped. That is, the dustproof rubber support portion 76 has a base portion 76a that protrudes from the ceiling portion 75 and a tip portion 76b that bends from the base portion 76a and forms a predetermined gap between itself and the ceiling portion 75.

[0035] A claw-shaped dustproof rubber support portion 86 is formed on the ceiling portion 85 of the second chamber portion 80. The dustproof rubber support portion 86 is L-shaped. That is, the dustproof rubber support portion 86 has a base portion 86a that protrudes from the ceiling portion 85 and a tip portion 86b that bends from the base portion 86a to form a predetermined gap between itself and the ceiling portion 85. The tip portion 86b of the dustproof rubber support portion 86 bends in the opposite direction to the tip portion 76b of the dustproof rubber support portion 76.

[0036] A claw-shaped dustproof rubber support portion 96 is formed on the ceiling portion 95 of the third chamber portion 90. The dustproof rubber support portion 96 is L-shaped. That is, the dustproof rubber support portion 96 has a base portion 96a that protrudes from the ceiling portion 95 and a tip portion 96b that bends from the base portion 96a to form a predetermined gap between itself and the ceiling portion 95. The tip portion 96b of the dustproof rubber support portion 96 bends in the same direction as the tip portion 76b of the dustproof rubber support portion 76. Therefore, the dustproof rubber support portions 76, 86, and 96 bend alternately in the front-rear direction.

[0037] A separation wall 100 is formed in front of the first chamber portion 70. The separation wall 100 extends inward in the vehicle width direction from the inner surface in the vehicle width direction of the central portion 47b of the seat underside side cover 47. The separation wall 100 is formed in front of the first chamber portion 70 with a gap approximately the size of the first chamber portion 70. A dustproof rubber support portion 101 is formed on the separation wall 100. The dustproof rubber support portion 101 has a base portion 101a that extends toward the first chamber portion 70 and a tip portion 101b that bends from the base portion 101a. The tip portion 101b bends outward in the vehicle width direction.

[0038] Figure 10 is a perspective view of the manifold chamber 60 and dustproof rubber 110 from the upper inner side in the vehicle width direction. Figure 11 is a view of the manifold chamber 60 and dustproof rubber 110 in the direction of arrow XI in Figure 6. Figure 12 is a view of the manifold chamber 60 and dustproof rubber 110 in the direction of arrow XII in Figure 6. The dustproof rubber 110 is engaged with and supported by the dustproof rubber support parts 76, 86, 96, and 101. The dustproof rubber 110 is a sheet-like rubber member. The dustproof rubber 110 has claw holes 111, 112, 113, and 114 (see Figure 10) corresponding to the positions of each dustproof rubber support part 76, 86, 96, and 101. The dustproof rubber 110 is curved to follow the ceiling portions 75, 85, and 95 of the manifold chamber portion 60, with the dustproof rubber support portion 101 engaged with the claw hole 111 at the front end, and the dustproof rubber support portions 76, 86, and 96 engage with the remaining claw holes 112, 113, and 114. At this time, because the orientations of the dustproof rubber support portions 76, 86, and 96 are staggered, the dustproof rubber 110 is less likely to come off the dustproof rubber support portions 76, 86, and 96.

[0039] The dustproof rubber 110 is positioned at a distance from the inner surface of the vehicle body cover 40 in the vehicle width direction. At least a portion of the dustproof rubber 110 is located in the vehicle width direction inward from the air intake portion 52a. In this embodiment, the dustproof rubber 110 is positioned in contact with the rear frame 24 (see Figure 4). The dustproof rubber 110 makes it easier to spatially separate the air intake portion 52a of the air cleaner box 33 from the wheel well S12.

[0040] The dustproof rubber 110 is curved and conforms to the ceiling portions 75, 85, and 95. Therefore, the partition shape of the sheet-like dustproof rubber 110 is easily maintained. In addition, because the dustproof rubber 110 is bent at a distance forward from the first chamber portion 70, an air guide passage S3 (Figure 10) is formed between the dustproof rubber 110 and the first chamber portion 70, through which the airflow can pass, as indicated by arrow A3 (see Figures 2 and 7).

[0041] In this embodiment, while the vehicle body cover 40 is provided with dustproof rubber support parts 76, 86, 96, and 101, the dustproof rubber support parts 76, 86, and 96 are also provided on the ceiling portions 75, 85, and 95 of the manifold chamber 60, so that the dustproof rubber 110 is positioned on the inside in the vehicle width direction, spaced apart from the inner surface of the vehicle body cover 40. As a result, the manifold chamber 60 has a structure that may block the opposing surface of the intake port 52a of the air cleaner box 33. However, in this embodiment, by providing air guide passages S1 to S4, it is easier to ensure air intake and drivability. That is, in the manifold chamber 60, the airflow coming from the front of the vehicle is allowed to escape to the rear to a moderate extent while also being able to be retained in the manifold chamber 60 to a moderate extent, making it easier to supply air with a high oxygen concentration to the intake port 52a of the air cleaner box 33.

[0042] As described above, according to this embodiment to which the present invention is applied, a saddle-type vehicle 10 comprises a vehicle body cover 40, a unit swing engine 13, an air cleaner box 33 supported by the unit swing engine 13 and positioned to the side of the tire 12c, an air intake portion 52a provided in the air cleaner box 33 and opening outward in the vehicle width direction in front of the tire 12c, and a dustproof rubber 110 located between the tire 12c and the air intake portion 52a. In this configuration, the vehicle body cover 40 is provided with chamber portions 70, 80, and 90 extending inward in the vehicle width direction from the inner surface in the vehicle width direction, and the dustproof rubber 110 is supported by the chamber portions 70, 80, and 90. With this configuration, since the dustproof rubber 110 is supported by the vehicle body cover 40, it is possible to provide a saddle-type vehicle 10 with a dustproof structure that is easy to install on a vehicle and reduces the amount of processing work required.

[0043] In this embodiment, multiple chamber sections 70, 80, and 90 are provided, and the spaces between the chamber sections 70, 80, and 90 form air guide passages S1 and S2. With this configuration, even with a structure that extends in the vehicle width direction, such as the chamber sections 70, 80, and 90, it is possible to secure a space where airflow can easily pass through, thereby ensuring drivability and air intake.

[0044] Further, in the present embodiment, the chamber portions 70, 80, 90 form an arch shape including upper wall portions 73, 83, 93 and lower wall portions 74, 84, 94 corresponding to the two leg portions, and ceiling portions 75, 85, 95 connecting ends between the upper wall portions 73, 83, 93 and the lower wall portions 74, 84, 94. The upper wall portions 73, 83, 93 and the lower wall portions 74, 84, 94 constitute an air guide path S4 that forms a chamber extending in a direction intersecting the air guide paths S1, S2. According to this configuration, traveling wind can flow more easily, an appropriate air reservoir can be easily formed, and intake performance can be ensured.

[0045] Further, in the present embodiment, dust-proof rubber support portions 76, 86, 96 are provided on the ceiling portions 75, 85, 95. According to this configuration, when the under-seat side cover 47 is formed by die cutting, the support structure for the dust-proof rubber 110 can be easily provided, and the processing work of the structure supporting the dust-proof rubber 110 can be easily facilitated.
