Description

COMPUTER-BASED SYSTEMS TO IMPLEMENT INTERACTIVE PHYSICAL MEDIA AND METHODS OF USE THEREOFCROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 63 / 777,067 filed March 25, 2025, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] This present disclosure generally relates to computer-based systems to implement interactive physical media and authenticate digital content and methods of use thereof.BACKGROUND

[0003] Augmented reality is an interactive computing experience in which computer-generated content is presented in association with a real-world environment. Using software applications executed by smartphones, tablets, head-mounted displays, or other sensor-equipped devices, augmented reality systems detect features of a physical scene and overlay digital information, such as images, animations, audio, video, text, and interactive graphical elements, onto corresponding real-world objects or locations.

[0004] Despite broader availability of augmented reality technologies, existing implementations remain limited in how digital content is associated with physical articles. Many systems require a user to launch a dedicated application, scan a code, or identify an image marker before content can be accessed. Such experiences are often static, dependent on separate platforms to manage associated data, and poorly suited to support content updates after a physical article has been distributed.1ACTIVE 721660021 v1

[0005] Further limitations arise when augmented reality experiences are intended to be personalized, authenticated, or tied to specific users or objects. Existing systems commonly lack support for secure registration, controlled content access, and reliable association between a physical item and its corresponding digital experience. Conventional approaches also provide limited capability for presenting real-time or location-based information in connection with physical surfaces such as calendars, cards, posters, packaging, or other tangible media.

[0006] Accordingly, there remains a need for improved computer-implemented systems and methods that more effectively associate physical objects with digital content, support dynamic and context-sensitive mixed reality experiences, and provide flexible interfaces for accessing, managing, and presenting such content.SUMMARY

The item-specific record may store ownership information, metadata associated with the physical item, and one or more parameters used to control subsequent presentation of mixed reality content.

[0053] In some embodiments, the item-specific interface may further support transfer of ownership of the physical item without requiring a separate third-party transfer platform for the transfer workflow itself. For example, after a registered user accesses the interface, the interface may present a selectable transfer control, such as a trade, sell, or transfer option, during an automatic loading sequence 19ACTIVE 721660021 v1GT Ref: 219156-010302 / PCTassociated with the item-specific record. In response to selection of the transfer control, the system may request entry of the password previously established for the physical item and, upon successful verification, may permit the current owner to release ownership status for the physical item. A subsequent owner may then enter replacement identity data and establish a new password such that control of the item-specific record is reassigned while the underlying mixed reality association remains tied to the same physical item.

[0054] In some embodiments, the backend system may maintain a transaction history for the physical item across successive ownership changes. The transaction history may define a pedigree, provenance record, or chain of custody associated with the physical item and may be viewable through an administrative interface, account interface, or other network-accessible system component. Such a history may be used to verify authenticity, track prior owners, preserve information associated with transfers, and support collectible-item functionality in cases where the physical item includes a trading card, sticker, poster, wearable, calendar, cup, garment, or other mixed reality-enabled article. The transaction history may also be used as an input to determine whether to authorize access to mixed reality content, display ownership-related information, or distinguish one physical item from another physical item that is otherwise visually similar.

[0055] In some embodiments, the disclosed mixed reality techniques may be applied to a physical calendar, planner, sticker, or other time-associated physical medium such that contextual information is displayed in registration with calendar content visible through a camera view of a user device. For example, after a user scans a digital code associated with a planner or calendar item, a mixed reality tool may obtain location information associated with the user device and may retrieve forecast information corresponding to a date range represented by the physical calendar. The mixed reality tool may then generate mixed reality content that overlays weather information on or adjacent to date 20ACTIVE 721660021 v1GT Ref: 219156-010302 / PCTpositions of the physical calendar, thereby permitting a user to view current forecast information while still interacting with handwritten notes, printed markings, or other content already present on the physical planner or calendar.

[0056] In some embodiments, a mixed reality gameplay system may use physical playmats as authentication devices for initiating a duel session between different user accounts. Each playmat may include a digital code, such as a QR code, that is registered to a corresponding account. When a first user device scans a second user's playmat while the first playmat is registered to the first account, the system may determine that two authenticated participants are entering a shared session. This mutual scanning operation may function as a physical-to-digital handshake that initiates the duel session, associates both accounts with the session, and causes the system to load gameplay parameters for a shared mixed reality experience.

[0057] In some embodiments, the playmats may further define environmental properties that are combined to generate an arena for the duel session. The environmental properties associated with a first playmat and a second playmat may be evaluated together to determine one or more persistent arena effects that remain active during the session. In this manner, the physical components used by different players may influence the digital conditions of the mixed reality experience before combat begins. The system may therefore use the authenticated playmat combination both to confirm participation and to establish one or more state variables that govern subsequent rendering, gameplay conditions, or effect application during the session.

[0058] In some embodiments, the duel session may be associated with persistent session data that is maintained across successive battle events involving multiple physical cards. For example, when a first creature represented by a first physical card defeats an opposing creature and remains in the duel, one 21ACTIVE 721660021 v1GT Ref: 219156-010302 / PCTor more condition values associated with the first creature may be preserved for use in a subsequent battle against a newly entered creature. Such condition values may include remaining health, accumulated status conditions, resource values, or other state information. By preserving session data across successive encounters, the system may maintain continuity of the mixed reality duel and reduce loss of state information that might otherwise occur when different physical cards are introduced into the camera field at different times.

[0059] In some embodiments, physical creature cards may be recognized through image detection and may serve as triggers for rendering automated combat visuals on and around the card surfaces. The mixed reality system may retrieve card-specific data responsive to recognition of a particular card and may render a corresponding creature representation, attack sequence, effect animation, or battle result in a camera view presented by a mobile device. Combat outcomes may depend at least in part on preconfigured card data associated with a player's selected roster rather than requiring continuous realtime manual input during combat execution. As a result, the disclosed system may combine the tactile qualities of physical collectible items with automated mixed reality presentation and stateful digital interactions.
