Description
A FASTENER FOR ATTACHING AN ACCESSORY IN A MODULAR CONSTRUCTIONRELATED APPLICATION DATA
[0001] This application claims the benefit priority of Belgium Patent Application Senal No. BE2025 / 5184, filed on March 28, 2025, and titled “Clip als bevestigingsmiddel van eeen system voor het bevestigen van een accessoire in een modulaire constructie” (English translation: Clip as a Fastening Means of a System for Attaching an Accessory in a Modular Construction), which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.FIELD OF DISCLOSURE
[0002] The disclosure relates to a system for modular constructions. More specifically, it relates to a clip for attaching at least one accessory to a truss member included in the system.BACKGROUND
[0003] A system is known in the prior art that comprises at least one accessory and a frame. The frame comprises a plurality of truss members with fasteners to attach the accessory’ to a connectable elongated truss member. For this purpose, a coupling part of the accessory, such as a bracket, pins, or magnets, is connected to a coupling part of the fastener on the truss member. The truss member can include a slot on at least one longitudinal side, into which a sliding block connector can be inserted and secured with screws. The screws press wings in the sliding block connector against hooks on the truss member.
[0004] However, this can damage the tmss member and thus limit the ability to repeatedly assemble the modular structure. Furthermore, many different fasteners are required to attach an accessory, including screws and optionally additional washers. Furthermore, fasteners cannot necessarily provide additional reinforcement for the truss member or help absorb forces acting on it. The points where the fasteners attach to the truss members are often weakened and require additional reinforcement.SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0005] A clip is provided that is convenient for attaching at least one accessory to a truss member of a modular system. Wings allow the clip to be positioned and clamped into a slot. This allows an accessory to be attached to a structure without the need for additional tools, such as screwdrivers or Allen keys, or other fasteners, such as bolts and screws, to secure the accessory' to the truss member. The clip can be used multiple times, enabling its use in modular constructions. Furthermore, the clip allows for easy assembly and disassembly and meets high 1 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1stability- requirements, requires minimal installation time, and offers flexibility. The clip's wings replace the use of washers for mounting the accessory, allowing for a minimal number of parts. The wings also provide additional support in the truss member at points subject to greater forces due to the attached accessory. Consequently, the wings help absorb forces acting on the truss member.DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0007] The disclosure concerns a system for modular constructions and includes a frame comprising a plurality of connectable elongated truss members and at least one accessory that can be connected to the truss members using one or more fastenings.
[0008] Each truss member has a polygonal cross-section. Each truss member extends substantially consistently along its length. The cross-section includes a pair of hooks on at least one longitudinal side, extending tow ards each other. This pair of hooks extends substantially consistently along its length. Together with the longitudinal side on which it rests, the pair of hooks forms a groove. The longitudinal direction is the direction in which a truss member extends. Each hook preferably has an L-shape at its base. More preferably, one free end of the hook is connected to the truss member, and the second free end of the L-shape faces another free end of the other hook.2 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0009] In one embodiment, the system comprises one or more fasteners. The fastener(s) are a clip. The clip comprises two wings and a coupling piece. The wings extend in the same plane.
[0010] The at least one accessory may include a graphic panel, such as LED screens or artistically decorated panels, sound system components, lighting, stage construction components such as stairs, wheels, feet, balustrades, or other.
[0011] In one embodiment, the wings are located on either side of the coupling. Preferably, the wings have the same outline.
[0012] In one embodiment, both wings together form a polygon in a plane. The polygon comprises at least two parallel sides, each of the wings comprising one of the parallel sides, the parallel sides being clampable between the hooks, the polygon additionally comprising rounded sides and / or beveled sides, the rounded sides and / or beveled sides connecting the parallel sides to each other.
[0013] In a further embodiment, both wings together form a parallelogram in a plane. Preferably, the sharp comers of the parallelogram are rounded. Preferably, the coupling piece is centrally positioned relative to the parallelogram.
[0014] In another embodiment, the wings together in the plane can also have a shape other than a parallelogram, as long as the clip with the wings and the coupling piece can be secured in the slot by translation between the pair of hooks and by rotation with the wings. This requires at least two parallel sides, each encompassed by a single wing. The parallel sides can be clamped between the hooks and serve to clamp between the legs of the hooks, which are coupled to the truss member in a clamped position. Additionally, rounded or beveled sides are necessary' to enable rotation of the clip between the hooks in a clamped position. The rounded or beveled sides connect both parallel sides at their ends. The two parallel sides can also be connected indirectly. For this, one or more sides lie between the two parallel sides, with the rounded or beveled sides abutting at least one end of each parallel side.
[0015] The clip's wings are advantageous, allowing it to be positioned and clamped into the slot. This allows one or more accessories to be attached to a structure without the need for additional tools, such as screwdrivers or Allen keys, or other fasteners such as bolts and screws to secure the accessory' to a truss member. Furthermore, the clip can be used multiple times, enabling its use in modular constructions. Furthermore, the clip allows for easy assembly and disassembly. Furthermore, the clip meets high stability requirements, requires minimal installation time, and offers flexibility. The clip's wings replace the use of washers for accessory' mounting, allowing for a minimal number of parts. Furthermore, the wings provide 3 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1additional support within the truss member in areas subject to greater forces due to the attached accessory’. Consequently, the wings help absorb forces acting on the truss member.
[0016] Modular construction is primarily used in the events industry for stage construction, exhibition stands, and similar projects. This can be done both indoors and outdoors. Accessories can be easily attached with a clip in a modular construction system, requiring a minimal number of different components. The clips can be repeatedly reassembled and disassembled.
[0017] In one embodiment, the clip's wings can be positioned between the free ends of the hooks in the slot. To achieve this, the shortest distance between the free ends of the hooks is greater than the distance between the longest sides of the parallelogram of the wings and the maximum diameter of a cross-section of the coupling piece measured in the plane of the wings. Furthermore, the shortest distance between the free ends of the hooks is less than the distance between the shortest sides of the parallelogram of the wings.
[0018] Preferably, the maximum diameter of the coupling's cross-section measured in the plane of the wings is smaller than the longest distance between the rounded sides or the beveled sides, preferably a distance betw een the longest sides of the parallelogram of the wings. This allow s the wings, after rotation, to have sufficient surface area to distribute the forces acting on the hooks and the wings.
[0019] Preferably, the maximum diameter of the coupling's cross-section, measured in the plane of the wings, can be inserted snugly between the free ends of the hooks. More preferably, the maximum diameter of the coupling's cross-section, measured in the plane of the wings, is greater than the distance between the parallel sides, preferably the shortest sides of the parallelogram, of the wings. This allows the pair of hooks to serve as additional support for carrying the weight of at least one accessory.
[0020] A part of the clip designed to fit snugly into a corresponding structure, such as a slot. This ensures stable installation without rotation or translation in a plane perpendicular to the component's insertion direction into the corresponding structure, without requiring excessive force or adjustment to insert the component into the corresponding structure.
[0021] In one embodiment, the clip can be clamped between the hooks of the slot. Clampability means that the connector and the clip's wings can be placed in the slot by translation when the slot and the polygon, preferably the parallelogram, are aligned in their longitudinal axes. Wings and the connector placed in the slot cannot be removed from the slot by translation when the slot and the parallelogram are substantially misaligned in their4 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1longitudinal axes. After these actions, the clip is positioned in a clamped position relative to the truss member.
[0022] The previously described conditions for distances and clampability of the polygon and the parallelogram can be translated to the other embodiment. The parallelogram is then the polygon with at least two parallel sides and at least two rounded or beveled sides that connect the ends of the parallel sides, preferably to form wings that together form a substantially quadrangular shape, but also a hexagonal or octagonal shape. For this, the at least two parallel sides correspond to the shortest sides of the parallelogram of the wings. Furthermore, the rounded or beveled sides correspond to the longest sides of the parallelogram of the wings.
[0023] In one embodiment, the parallelogram has an obtuse angle between 100° and 135°. Preferably, the obtuse angle is at least 105°, more preferably at least 110°. and more preferably at least 115°. Preferably, the obtuse angle is at most 130°, more preferably at most 125°, and more preferably at most 120°. The larger the obtuse angle, the greater the chance that the wings can move out of the hooks during use of the modular construction system. The smaller the obtuse angle, the more difficult rotation of the clip typically becomes.
[0024] In one embodiment, the longest sides have a rounded and / or beveled portion at the sharp comers of the parallelogram. Advantageously, the longest sides have a rounded and / or beveled portion at the sharp comers so that rotation of the wings between the pair of hooks can be performed more easily.
[0025] In one embodiment, wings include recesses. Preferably, each wing includes a recess around the coupling piece. The recesses are preferably perpendicular to and pass through the plane in which the wings extend. This contributes to lower material consumption. Optionally, the peripheral edges of the wings can be of such a height that, after translation between the hooks in the slot, the wings can be rotated and clamped between the hooks. This height is measured perpendicular to the plane in which the wings extend.
[0026] In one embodiment, the clip includes a coupling portion for receiving a counterpart coupling portion of the aforementioned at least one accessory. The coupling portion of the clip extends from the coupling piece perpendicular to the plane in which the wings extend. The coupling portion is preferably a magnet, a pin, a recess, a protrusion, a tooth, a groove, a snap connection, a hook-and-loop fastener, a ring, or a hook, or a combination thereof. Thanks to the coupling portion, the at least one accessory can be easily connected to a truss member without additional tools or fasteners. The coupling portion is integrated into the clip, eliminating the need for an unnecessary number of components in a modular construction system.5 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0027] In one embodiment, the clip's coupling section is oriented away from the truss member. This makes the clip's coupling section easily accessible for connecting the clip to at least one accessory.
[0028] In one embodiment, the hooks each comprise a tooth at the free end. The teeth each face the longitudinal side of the truss members. The tooth extends along the lengthwise direction. Preferably, the tooth is substantially parallel to one leg of the L-shape of the hook connected to the truss member. This allows the wings to be clamped in the groove under increased pressure from the teeth on the wings.
[0029] Preferably, each upstand has an L-shape. More preferably, a first free end of the L-shape is connected to the hook. A second free end of the L- shape is oriented toward the connected leg of the hook with a truss member. This creates a larger surface area that can come into contact with the wings, allowing for a greater distribution of forces acting on the upstand across the wings.
[0030] In a further embodiment, each wing of the clip comprises a lip. The lip has a free end directed toward the shortest sides of the parallelogram of the wings. The lip extends substantially parallel to the plane. Preferably, the lip extends near the rounded or beveled portion of the wings. Preferably, the lip extends from a side of the plane in which the wings extend, facing the hooks when the clip is in the clamped position. Alternatively, the lip can extend from a side of the plane in which the wings extend, facing the truss member when the clip is in the clamped position.
[0031] In one embodiment, multiple lips are included on each wing, at different locations along the wings. Preferably, at least two of the multiple lips are directed from different sides of the wings. This means at least one lip is directed toward the hooks and at least one lip is directed toward the truss member.
[0032] The lip, or multiple lips, are advantageous for providing counterpressure against the hooks, allowing for any play between the hooks, the wings, and the truss member. This allows the clip to be clamped more securely.
[0033] In one embodiment, the lip includes a tooth on its free end. The tooth is positioned perpendicular to the lip, facing away from the plane of the wings. This embodiment is advantageous in combination with the hook upstand, which has an L-shape. The tooth is designed such that the lip can be hooked behind the hook upstand when the clip is in the clamped position. The lip can be flexed so that the tooth can hook behind the upstand and serve as a snap connection. This is advantageous for better securing the clip in the slot.6 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0034] In one embodiment, the coupling portion of the clip has a maximum cross-section that is smaller than the shortest distance between the free ends of the two hooks in the slot. This allows the coupling portion to extend between the pair of hooks, allowing at least one accessory to be positioned against the hooks.
[0035] In a preferred embodiment, the coupling portion of the clip comprises a recess or a projection. The at least one accessory comprises a coupling portion. This is a matching projection for the recess of the clip or a matching recess for the projection of the clip. The projection of either the clip or the at least one accessory is fitable into the recess of either the clip or the at least one accessory7.
[0036] Parts or components may be configured in such a way that they can be connected to each other through their shape.
[0037] The protrusion may be cone-shaped with at least one fin on a circumference of the cone, or the protrusion may be a hemisphere with at least one fin on a circumference of the hemisphere, or the protrusion may include one or more upstanding pins, or include a magnet.
[0038] In a preferred embodiment, each truss member includes multiple openings in its longitudinal sides. Preferably, the openings are positioned opposite each other on opposite longitudinal sides. Preferably, each truss member is hollow. Alternatively, opposite openings are connected by a through-hole. This allows a system component to be secured through the truss members.
[0039] In one embodiment, the multiple openings in the truss member are elliptical, preferably round. Preferably, the openings on each longitudinal side have the same diameter. More preferably, the opposite openings have the same diameter. More preferably, all openings of the multiple openings have the same diameter. More preferably, all openings in the system's truss members have the same diameter. This allows pins or other elements to be easily inserted into or through any truss member in the system. Because multiple openings have the same diameter, a pin or element can be used multiple times and modularly within a modular construction.
[0040] In one embodiment, the diameter of the multiple openings is greater than the shortest distance between the free ends of the hooks and smaller than the longest distance between hooks in a direction perpendicular to the lengthwise direction. This allows sufficient support surface for the wings to rest against a truss member.
[0041] In one embodiment, the longitudinal sides of the truss members are reinforced by a bend between each pair of hooks. This reinforces the base of a truss member. The bend extends lengthwise.7 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0042] In one embodiment, the polygonal cross-section of the truss member is rectangular, preferably square. This simplifies the combination of truss members and at least one accessory in a modular construction. The rectangular cross-section serves as the base on which the hooks are positioned.
[0043] In a preferred embodiment, the truss member includes a slot on each long side. This allows the clip to be secured, preferably by using a pin incorporated in the clip, or more preferably by combining the pin with a lock. This is described in more detail below.
[0044] In one embodiment, the frame truss members comprise multiple slots on one longitudinal side. Preferably, the multiple slots consist of at least two slots, more preferably two slots. Preferably, the at least two slots each comprise one hook that abuts against each other in pairs; more preferably, the two slots each comprise one hook that abuts against each other in pairs. The abutment occurs with one side along the lengthwise direction. More preferably, the multiple slots are on at least two and at most four longitudinal sides. More preferably, the longitudinal sides with the multiple slots comprise two slots. The multiple slots on a single longitudinal side allow multiple accessories to be connected to the truss member next to each other and contiguously, within the same plane.
[0045] In one embodiment, the one or more openings are centrally positioned between the hooks. Preferably, the openings are positioned at the same distance from an adjacent opening, lengthwise.
[0046] In a preferred embodiment, the comers of the truss member are reinforced by T-shaped hooks. The hooks are positioned at a comer of the square cross-section with a free end of a vertical leg of the T-shape. The vertical leg extends away from the base and is an extension of a longitudinal side. A horizontal leg of the T-shape has a free end directed towards a free end of the other hook of the pair of hooks and is connected at another free end to another free end of a T-shaped hook that does not belong to the pair of hooks, forming a comer.
[0047] In one embodiment, the clip includes a pin. The pin extends perpendicular to the plane in which the wings extend, in an opposite direction to the coupling portion of the clip. The pin can be inserted through at least one of the openings in the truss member. This allows the pin to pass through one or more openings in the tmss member, providing additional security against movement of the at least one accessory relative to the truss member, as the pin can be blocked from moving by the one or more openings. Preferably, the pin passes through opposite openings of a preferably hollow truss member.
[0048] In a preferred embodiment, the pin has a round cross-section. This allows it to be translated through the truss member opening in various onentations. Furthermore, the chance 8 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1of the pin not inserting correctly into the opening is smaller than with a pin with a polygonal cross-section. This increases the pin's ease of use.
[0049] In one embodiment, the system includes a lock. The pin can be combined with the lock to secure the pin through the truss member. This prevents the pin from sliding out of the opening when the clip is in a clamped position. The pin and the lock can each be placed through opposite openings. Preferably, the pin can be secured in the sleeve. More preferably, the pin and the lock include mechanisms for coupling to each other. When the clip is engaged with the lock, the clip and the pin are in a locked position.
[0050] In one embodiment, the lock comprises a tube. The tube can be slid into the truss member through the aforementioned opposite opening. Preferably, a core of the tube extends through the plate-shaped head. This allows a pin to be inserted completely through the lock from an end of the tube opposite the plate-shaped head. Consequently, the pin can be used for other fastening or anchoring elements, as described further herein.
[0051] In a further embodiment, the lock includes a plate-shaped head, as part of the mechanism for connecting the pin and the lock. The plate-shaped head can be placed against the edges of an opening in a slot against an outer wall of a longitudinal side of the truss member. This longitudinal side is the opposite longitudinal side from which the clip is secured to the truss member in a clamped position.
[0052] In a preferred embodiment, the plate-shaped head is a rectangular plate with rounded comers. Preferably, the rectangular plate has convex short sides. This makes rotation of the plate-shaped head in the slot easier.
[0053] In one embodiment, the pin on a free end includes a mechanism for engaging the lock. The free end is the opposite end of the pin from the end engaged with the coupling piece.
[0054] In one embodiment, the pin includes an anchoring element as the mechanism for engaging the lock. The anchoring element can be secured in a sleeve. Preferably, the anchoring element is T-shaped. The T-shaped element is positioned with a vertical leg with a free end on the free end of the pin and is an extension of the pin.
[0055] In one embodiment, the T-shape has a horizontal leg, w ith a distance between the two free ends of the horizontal leg being less than the largest dimension of a cross-section of the pin between both ends of the pin. This allows the pin and the free end to be translated through at least one opening in the truss member. Preferably, the distance between the two free ends of the horizontal leg of the T-shape is at most seven-eighths, more preferably at most three-quarters, of the largest dimension of a cross-section of the pin between both ends of the9 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1pin. Preferably, the aforementioned ratio is at least two-thirds, preferably at least one-half, of the largest dimension of a cross-section of the pin between both ends of the pin.
[0056] For this embodiment, the lockability is achieved by the lock tube having a lock opening with an unequal cross-section along its longitudinal axis compared to its transverse axis. This allows the anchoring element to be placed in the lock opening by translation when the lock opening and the T-shaped anchoring element are aligned along their longitudinal axis. The anchoring element placed in the lock opening cannot be removed from the lock opening by translation when the lock opening and the T-shaped anchoring element are substantially misaligned along their longitudinal axis. Preferably, the distance between the two ends of the horizontal leg of the T-shaped element is smaller than the longitudinal axis of the lock opening and larger than the transverse axis of the lock opening.
[0057] Alternatively, the pin includes the lock opening on a free end of the pin as the mechanism for coupling to the lock. The free end is the opposite end of the pin, which is coupled to the coupling piece. The lock opening can be secured with an anchoring element contained in the tube, in a manner similar to that described above. For this purpose, the tube of the lock includes an anchoring element. Preferably, the anchoring element has a T-shape. The T-shape is positioned with a vertical leg with a free end on the free end of the tube and is an extension of the tube. The T-shape has a horizontal leg, with a distance betw een the two free ends of the horizontal leg being less than a largest dimension of a cross-section of the tube.
[0058] In an alternative embodiment, the pin includes a constriction at the free end of the pin as the mechanism for engaging the lock. Preferably, the constriction is lockable into a sleeve.
[0059] Preferably, the constriction has a cross-section smaller than the largest dimension of the pin's cross-section between the pin's two ends. This allows the pin and the free end to be translated through at least one opening in the truss member. Preferably, the distance between the constriction's cross-section is no more than seven-eighths, more preferably no more than three-quarters of the largest dimension of the pin's cross-section. Preferably, the aforementioned ratio is at least two-thirds, preferably at least one-half.
[0060] For this embodiment, the lockability is achieved by the pin's constriction being clampably inserted into the core of the lock's cylinder. The core is preferably at least as long as the constriction, along the direction in which the pin and cylinder extend.
[0061] A component of the clip is designed to fit snugly into a corresponding structure, such as the socket. This ensures stable insertion without rotation or translation in a plane perpendicular to the component's insertion direction into the corresponding structure.10 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1Furthermore, there is some resistance to inserting the component into the corresponding structure, which can cause the component to clamp into the corresponding structure, thus hindering movement in the insertion direction.
[0062] Alternatively, the constriction extends, in its fixed position, through and beyond the lock, from the plane of the wings and in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the wings. The pin constriction can be secured in the lock by sliding it clampingly into and partially through the sleeve. The sleeve has a shorter length than the constriction. The lengths are measured in a direction in which the pin and sleeve extend. Preferably, there is a hole through the pin at the free end. The hole is in the same direction as the shortest distance between the shortest sides of the parallelogram. This is advantageous for attaching an accessory to another side of the truss member.
[0063] In an alternative embodiment, the pin includes a spring mechanism. The pin can be engaged and disengaged in the sleeve via the spring mechanism. In an extended state of the spring mechanism, movable parts of the spring mechanism are extended perpendicular to a direction in which the pin extends, and in the compressed state of the spring mechanism, the movable parts are retracted into the pin. Preferably, the spring mechanism extends into the coupling piece. More preferably, the at least one accessory can be engaged simultaneously with the pin being engaged in the sleeve by the spring mechanism extending into the coupling piece.
[0064] In an alternative embodiment, the pin includes+ a slot on its free end. Preferably, the slot extends from the opposite longitudinal side of the truss member in the clamped position and away from the truss member in an extension of the pin. More preferably, a hinged element is incorporated in the slot. In a closed position, the hinged element is positioned completely within the slot. Preferably, the hinged element does not protrude beyond the periphery of the pin. The hinged element extends transversely to the direction in which the slot in the pin or pin extends in an open position. This allows the hinged element to be fixed to the truss member. Fixation can take place while clamping the clip in the slot of the truss member. This can be done by translating at least the pin, the wing, and the coupling piece through the slot of the truss member. The pin can be translated through the opposite openings. The hinged element can be hinged in the direction in which the slot of the truss member extends. The clip can be clamped into the slot by rotating it. The hinged element can clamp over the outside of the hooks.
[0065] In one embodiment, the pin extends through a single truss member. This allows at least one accessory to be secured to the truss member. Alternatively, the pin can extend through multiple parallel-positioned truss members to anchor them to each other.11 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0066] In one embodiment, the lock includes a handle. The handle is coupled to the plateshaped head, extending from the tube, in a direction away from the tube. This allows the pin to be gripped for rotation and secured behind the hooks on the truss member with at least the plate-shaped head. Furthermore, the handle can also anchor the tube and the anchoring element when the lock rotates.
[0067] Lockability means that the lock's sleeve and plate-shaped head can be placed in the truss member's groove by translation when the groove and the plate-shaped head are aligned along their length. A plate-shaped head and sleeve placed in the groove cannot be removed from the groove by translation when the groove and the plate-shaped head are substantially misaligned along their length. After these actions, the clip is positioned in a locked position relative to the truss member.
[0068] In an alternative embodiment, the lock includes an attachment element. The attachment element is coupled to the plate-shaped head in the extension of the tube, in the direction away from the tube. Preferably, the attachment element is a ring, a magnet, a rod comprising a slot with a hinged element, or a lock opening for receiving an anchoring element for connecting an anchoring element of another pin. as described above. This is advantageous so that the pin can be used to attach multiple accessories to one or more parallel-positioned truss members. More preferably, the attachment element extends between and beyond the hooks when the lock is coupled to the pin in a truss member. Alternatively, the attachment element is coupled directly to the tube.
[0069] In one embodiment, the tube extends through a single truss member in a coupled position, wi th the tube being connected to a truss member by the clip. This allows at least one accessory' to be securely fastened to the truss member. Alternatively, the tube can extend through multiple parallel-positioned truss members to securely anchor them to each other. Preferably, the lock's tube extends through opposite openings in multiple parallel-positioned truss members. The multiple parallel-positioned truss members are adjacent to each other along a longitudinal side. The multiple adjacent truss members can be fixed to each other by the pin in the lock. In an alternative embodiment, the pin extends through opposite openings in multiple parallel-positioned and adjacent truss members in a coupled position.
[0070] In one embodiment, the pin, separate from the wings, and the coupling piece can be used in the system to connect the at least one accessory7or the parallel-positioned truss members to each other, preferably in combination with the lock. Preferably , the pin, replacing the wings, comprises a plate-shaped head, more preferably a plate-shaped head similar to the lock.12 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0071] In one embodiment, the truss members are made of aluminum or an alloy thereof.
[0072] In a preferred embodiment, the truss members are made of an aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy. Preferably, the magnesium weight percentage in this alloy is between 0.4 wt% and 2.2 wt%, more preferably between 0.6 wt% and 1.7 wt%, and even more preferably between 0.8 wt% and 1.2 wt%.
[0073] Preferably, the weight percentage of silicon in said alloy is between 0.1 wt% and 1.2 wt%. more preferably between 0.2 wt% and 1.0 wt%, more preferably between 0.4 wt% and 0.8 wt%.
[0074] The aluminum alloy, comprising magnesium and silicon, offers high strength while remaining lightweight. This is useful for modular construction elements to enhance rapid assembly and transport while ensuring sufficient strength. This alloy has excellent corrosion resistance to atmospheric and marine environments, extending the service life of these elements. Furthermore, this alloy is easy to machine and weld, simplifying fabrication and assembly. This also results in a durable material for modular construction. Furthermore, these alloys are easily anodized, further increasing corrosion resistance.
[0075] In a further embodiment, the alloy comprises copper. Preferably, the weight percentage of copper in the alloy is between 0.05 wt% and 0.80 wt%, more preferably between 0.10 wt% and 0.60 v %, and even more preferably between 0.15 wt% and 0.40 wt%. This further strengthens the alloy, so that, for example, the truss members will not deform under forces encountered during expected uses.
[0076] In a further embodiment, the aluminum alloy is anodized, which further increases corrosion resistance.

[0108] Figures 3A-3E show various configurations of a clip (1) comprising a pin (13) and a lock (10) according to embodiments of the present disclosure.
[0109] The clip (1) is one of the clips as described in Figures 2A-2F and can be combined with the pin (13) according to the coupling part (4) of an accessory’ to be connected. The clip (I) includes a pin. The pin (13) extends perpendicular to the plane in which the wings (2) extend, in an opposite direction to the coupling part (4) of the clip. The pin (13) has a round cross-section.
[0110] The system includes a lock. The lock (10) comprises a plate-shaped head (11) and a sleeve (12). The sleeve (12) extends transversely to a plane in which the plate-shaped head (II) extends. The pin (13) can be combined with the lock (10) for securing the pin (13) to a truss member. The clip (1) can be connected to the lock by means of the pin (13) in the sleeve (12). The plate-shaped head (11) is a rectangular plate with rounded comers. The rectangular plate has convex short sides.
[0111] Figure 3A shows a clip (1) comprising a pin (13) with an anchoring element and a lock (10) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0112] The pin (13) includes the anchoring element on a free end of the pin (13) as the mechanism for coupling to the lock. The free end is the opposite end of the pin (13) which is coupled to the coupling piece (3). The anchoring element is fixable in the tube (12). The anchoring element has a T-shape. The T-shape is positioned with a vertical leg with a free end on the free end of the pm (13) and is in an extension of the pin. The T-shape has a horizontal 17 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1leg whereby a distance between both free ends of the horizontal leg is smaller than a largest dimension of a cross-section of the pin (13) between both ends of the pin.
[0113] The lock (10) includes a core in the tube (12). The core extends from both ends of the tube (12) through the plate-shaped head (11). At the end opposite the end coupled to the plate-shaped head (11), a lock opening is included in the tube (12). The lock opening has an unequal cross-section in a longitudinal axis compared to a transverse axis. This allows the anchoring element to be placed in the lock opening via translation when the lock opening and the anchoring element are aligned with a horizontal leg of the T-shape in terms of their longitudinal axis. A distance between the two ends of the horizontal leg of the T-shape is smaller than the longitudinal axis of the lock opening and larger than the transverse axis of the lock opening.
[0114] Figure 3B shows a clip (1) comprising a pin (13) with a constriction and a lock (10) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0115] The pin (13) includes the constriction from the coupling piece (3) to a free end of the pin (13) as the mechanism for coupling to the lock. The free end is the opposite end of the pin (13) which is coupled to the coupling piece (3). The constnction is lockable through the tube (12). At the free end of the pin (13) there is a bore through the pin. The bore is in the same direction as the shortest distance measured between the shortest sides of the parallelogram.
[0116] The lock (10) comprises a core within the tube (12). The core extends from both ends of the tube (12) through the plate-shaped head (11). The constriction of the pin (13) can be secured in the lock (10) by being clamped and sliding into and partly through the core of the tube (12). The core has a shorter length than the length of the constriction. The lengths are measured along the direction in which the pin (13) and the tube (12) extend.
[0117] Figure 3C shows a clip (1) comprising a pin (13) with a slot (14) and a hinged element (15) and a lock (10) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0118] The pin (13) incorporates the slot (14) and the hinge element (15) as the mechanism for coupling to the lock. The slot (14) extends from a free end of the pin (13) towards the coupled end of the pin (13) with the coupling piece. The slot (14) stops in the pin (13) such that the slot (14) is not received by the lock (10) in the locked position. The slot (14) extends across a diameter of the pin (13) in a direction parallel to the shortest distance between the longest sides of the parallelogram. Alternatively, the slot (14) can be oriented along the cross-section of the pin (13) in a direction parallel to the shortest distance betw een the shortest sides of the parallelogram. This can then be used to couple multiple truss members lying parallel next to each other. A hinge element (15) is incorporated in the slot (14). The hinge element (15) is 18 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1fully inserted into the slot (14) in a closed position. The hinge element (15) has a smaller width than the cross-section of the pin. The stated width is measured in a closed position along a direction of the shortest distance between the longest sides of the parallelogram.
[0119] The lock (10) comprises a core in the tube (12). The core extends from both ends of the tube (12) through the plate-shaped head (11). The hinged element (15) can be secured against the outside of a pair of hooks (19) of a truss member by folding out and rotating the hinged element (15). Optionally, the pin (13) can be secured in the lock (10) by sliding it clampingly into and partly through the core of the tube (12).
[0120] Figure 3D shows a clip (1) comprising a pin (13) with a constriction and a lock (10) comprising an attachment element (16) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0121] The pin (13) includes the constriction on a free end of the pin (13) as the mechanism for coupling to the lock. The free end is the opposite end of the pin (13) which is coupled to the coupling piece (3). The constriction is lockable in the sleeve (12).
[0122] The lock (10) comprises a core within the sleeve (12). The core extends from both ends of the sleeve (12) through the plate-shaped head (11). The constriction of the pin (13) can be secured in the lock (10) by being clampingly slidable into a portion (5) of a core within the sleeve (12). The core extends in a direction in which the sleeve (12) extends and between both ends of the sleeve (12). The core optionally has the same diameter over the entire length of the core. The lock (10) comprises an attachment element (16). The attachment element (16) is coupled to the plate-shaped head (11) in the extension of the sleeve (12) in the direction away from the sleeve (12). The attachment element (16) is a ring or alternatively a magnet, a lock opening for receiving an anchoring element or other attachment element (16).
[0123] Figure 3E shows a clip (1) comprising a pin (13) with a lock opening and a lock (10) comprising a grip (17) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0124] The pin (13) includes the lock opening on a free end of the pin (13) as the mechanism for coupling to the lock. The free end is the opposite end of the pin (13) which is coupled to the coupling piece (3). The lock opening is fixable with an anchoring element included in the tube (12).
[0125] The anchoring element is T-shaped. The T-shape is positioned with a vertical leg with a free end on the free end of the tube (12) and is an extension of the tube (12). The T-shape has a horizontal leg, with a distance between the two free ends of the horizontal leg being less than a largest dimension of a cross-section of the tube (12). The lock opening has an unequal cross-section in a longitudinal axis compared to a transverse axis. This allows the 19 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1anchoring element to be placed in the lock opening via translation when the lock opening and the anchoring element with a horizontal leg of the T-shape are aligned in their longitudinal axis. The distance between the two ends of the horizontal leg of the T-shape is less than the longitudinal axis of the lock opening and greater than the transverse axis of the lock opening.
[0126] The lock (10) includes ahandle (17). The handle (17) is coupled to the plate-shaped head (11) in the extension of the tube (12) in a direction away from the tube (12). The handle (17) allows the anchoring element to be rotated so that it can be secured in the lock opening.
[0127] Figures 4A-4E show different configurations of truss members (18) according to embodiments of the present disclosure.
[0128] As noted, truss member (18) is used for forming a frame for modular construction.
[0129] A truss member (18) has a rectangular cross-section as its base. Each truss member (18) is hollow. On the long sides of the quadrangular cross-section, multiple openings (22) are included (as can be seen in FIG. 4E). The multiple openings (22) are centrally positioned between a pair of hooks. The multiple openings (22) preferably have a round shape. Openings (22) opposite each other have the same diameter. Optionally, all openings (22) of the multiple openings (22) are equal in diameter. The diameter is greater than the shortest distance between the free ends of the hooks (19) and smaller than a longest distance between hooks (19) in a direction transverse to the length direction. The long sides of the truss members (18) are reinforced by a bend between each pair of hooks (19) and extends in the length direction. Optionally, the hooks (19) comprise an upstand on a free end of each hook (19) which is directed towards a free end of a hook (19) belonging to the same pair of hooks (19). The upstand has an L-shape positioned on a free end of each hook. The L-shape is coupled with a first free end to the free end of the hook (19). The L-shape is directed with a second free end towards the longitudinal sides of the truss member.
[0130] Figure 4A shows a cross-section of a truss member (18) with a slot (20) on each longitudinal side according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0131] The truss member (18) includes a slot (20) on each long side. The base has a square cross-section. The corners of the truss member (18) are reinforced by the hooks (19) having a T-shape. With a free end of a vertical leg of the T-shape, the hooks (19) are positioned on a comer of the square cross-section. The vertical leg extends away from the base and in an extension of a long side. A horizontal leg of the T-shape has a free end directed towards a free end of the other hook (19) of the pair of hooks (19) and is coupled with another free end to another free end of a T-shape of a hook (19) that does not belong to the pair of hooks (19), to form a comer.20 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0132] Figure 4B shows a cross-section of a truss member (18) with one slot (20) or two slots on the longitudinal sides according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0133] The base is square in cross-section. The truss member (18) comprises two bases with a longitudinal side positioned parallel to each other and which are connected to each other. Connections between adjacent comers of both bases are also made by means of hooks (19), which are paired and in line with each other. The comers of each base are reinforced by the hooks (19) having a T-shape. With a free end of a vertical leg of the T-shape, the hooks (19) are positioned on a comer of the square in cross-section. The vertical leg extends away from the base and in line with a longitudinal side. A horizontal leg of the T-shape has a free end directed towards a free end of the other hook (19) of the pair of hooks (19) and is connected with another free end to another free end of a T-shaped hook (19) that does not belong to the pair of hooks (19), to form a comer. Except for the hooks (19), which are paired, the horizontal leg of each T-shape extends into the other. This means they are in line with each other. The connections extend lengthwise. A space betw een each connection of the adj acent comers and an extension of the horizontal leg of both T-shapes is included in the truss member (18) to reinforce the hooks (19).
[0134] Figure 4C shows a cross-section of a truss member (18) with two slots on each longitudinal side according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0135] The base has a square cross-section. The truss member (18) comprises four bases positioned in a square arrangement relative to each other. Longitudinal sides of various bases, positioned parallel to each other and facing each other, are connected at comers of the square cross-section. Connections between adjacent comers of the bases are also made by means of hooks (19), which are paired and aligned. The comers of each base are reinforced by the hooks (19) having a T-shape. With a free end of a vertical leg of the T-shape, the hooks (19) are positioned at a comer of the square cross-section. The vertical leg extends aw ay from the base and is an extension of a longitudinal side. A horizontal leg of the T-shape has one free end directed towards a free end of the other hook (19) of the pair of hooks (19) to form a slot (20) and is coupled with another free end to another free end of a T-shape of a hook (19) that does not belong to the pair of hooks (19) to form a comer. With the exception of the hooks (19) which are paired, the horizontal leg of each T-shape runs into each other. This means that they are in line wi th each other. A space between the two T-shapes to form a comer and an associated comer of a base is included in the truss member (18) to strengthen the hooks (19).
[0136] Figure 4D shows a cross-section of a truss member (18) with two slots, each on an opposite longitudinal side, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.21 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
[0137] The base is a rectangular cross-section. An opposite pair of sides of the rectangle has a distance between their comers corresponding to a distance between the comers of the square cross-section in Figure 4A. Another opposite pair of sides of the rectangle, these being the pair of shortest sides, has a distance corresponding to a distance between a bend (23) and a comer. The comers of the base are reinforced by the hooks (19) having a T-shape. With a free end of a vertical leg of the T-shape, the hooks (19) are positioned at a comer of the square cross-section. The vertical leg extends away from the base and is an extension of a longitudinal side. A horizontal leg of the T-shape has a free end directed towards a free end of the other hook (19) of the pair of hooks (19) to form a slot (20) and is coupled with another free end to a connection with another free end of a horizontal leg of a T-shape of a hook (19) which does not belong to the pair of hooks (19) and does not contribute to forming the slot (20). The connection is positioned parallel to the shortest pair of sides and is coupled centrally at a midpoint of one of the sides of the shortest pair of sides.
[0138] Figure 4E shows a connectable elongated truss member (18) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0139] Figure 4E is a perspective view of the truss member shown in Figure 4A.
[0140] Figures 5A-5B show different configurations of pins (13) with lock (10) secured in parallel truss members (18) according to embodiments of the present disclosure.
[0141] Pins (13) can also be attached without a clip to connect two parallel and adjacent truss members.
[0142] In Figure 5A and Figure 5B, the pins (13) and the locks (10) are described from top to bottom.
[0143] Figure 5A shows coupled pins (13) in locks (10) in parallel and adjacent truss members (18).
[0144] The top two pins (13) are as described in Fig. 3A with the difference that the wings (2) are replaced by a plate-shaped head (11) and the coupling piece (3) is replaced by a grip (17). The plate-shaped head (11) and the grip (17) are as described for the lock (10) of Fig. 3E. The top two locks (10) are as in Fig. 3A. Additionally for the top lock (10) the lock (10) comprises an attachment element as described in Fig. 3D.
[0145] Middle pin (13) comprises a constriction and is as in Fig. 3D, with the difference that the wings (2) and the coupling piece (3) have been replaced by a grip (17) which encloses one end of the pin (13). This end is the opposite end of the pin (13) which can be connected with a lock (10). The lock (10) comprises a tube ( 12) with a length that can reach through three opposite openings of two parallel positioned truss members (18). The mentioned length is 22 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1measured in the direction in which the tube (12) extends. The lock (10) is a lock (10) as in Fig.3A.
[0146] The two bottom pins (13) comprise a constriction and are similar to the pin (13) as in Fig. 3 A, with the difference that the wings (2) and the coupling piece (3) have been replaced by a plate-shaped head (11). The lock (10) is as described in Fig. 3A. The bottom pin (13) has an additional reinforcement in slots that are positioned against each other when truss members lie parallel next to each other, when at least a pair of hooks of each truss member lie against each other. The pin (13) comprises a ring (25) at one end of the constriction that cannot be inserted into the tube. The ring (25) is transversely upright and surrounds the pin. The lock (10) comprises a ring (25) at one end of the tube (12) where the constriction can be clamped into the tube (12) and can be inserted. The ring (25) is the same ring (25) as that of the pin (13). The ring (25) is positioned transversely and surrounds the tube (12). The ring (25) preferably has an unequal width. The width is measured in the plane in which the ring (25) extends, so that the ring (25) can be placed through openings. Furthermore, the ring (25) can sen e as additional reinforcement in the truss member and clamping of the pin (13) and the lock (10) in the slot (20).
[0147] Figure 5B shows disconnected pins (13) from locks (10) each in a truss member (18) as shown in Figure 5 A.
[0148] Quoting numerical intervals through the endpoints includes all integers, fractions, and / or real numbers between the endpoints, including these endpoints.23 Atorney DocketNo. 15516-136WOU1
