Abstract

The present application relates to the technical field of display, and discloses a display panel, a control method for a display panel, and a display device. Each pixel unit of the display panel comprises a blue light-emitting unit and a yellow light-emitting unit. The blue light-emitting unit can emit blue light emitted by a blue excitation light source, the blue excitation light source in the yellow light-emitting unit can excite, by means of the emitted blue light, a yellow light conversion layer to emit yellow light having a central wavelength ranging from 565 nm to 575 nm, and the yellow light can be mixed with the blue light emitted by the blue light-emitting unit to form white light. Compared with white light mixed by red, blue, and green light-emitting units, this method of obtaining white light does not require a green light conversion layer having low excitation efficiency, so that the effect of improving the white light efficiency of the display panel can be achieved. In this way, the power consumption of the display panel can be reduced, thereby reducing the heat dissipation requirement of the display panel, which is beneficial to the lightness and thinness of a display device to which the display panel is applied.

These drawings and descriptions are not intended to limit the scope of the concept in any way, but rather to illustrate the concept of this application to those skilled in the art through reference to particular embodiments. Detailed Implementation

[0044] To make the objectives, technical solutions, and advantages of this application clearer, the embodiments of this application will be described in further detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0045] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a display panel in the related art. The display panel includes a substrate 11 and pixel units 12 located on the substrate 11. The pixel units 12 include red pixel units 121, green pixel units 122 and blue pixel units 123. Each pixel unit includes a blue organic light-emitting diode 125. The red pixel unit 121 also includes a red light conversion layer 1211 located on the blue organic light-emitting diode 125. The green pixel unit 122 also includes a green light conversion layer 1221 located on the blue organic light-emitting diode 125. The blue pixel unit 123 also includes a light-transmitting layer 1231 located on the blue organic light-emitting diode 125.

[0046] The blue organic light-emitting diode 125 is used to emit excitation light to excite various light conversion layers to emit different colors of light. However, due to material limitations, the light conversion efficiency of both the green phosphor light conversion layer and the green quantum dot light conversion layer is significantly lower than that of other color light conversion layers. This results in low white light efficiency for the display panel, and low white light efficiency leads to higher energy consumption of the display panel.

[0047] In another related technology, to compensate for the above problems, a green organic light-emitting diode is added to the backlight in the display panel. This can make up for the low light conversion efficiency of the green light conversion layer. However, since the manufacturing process of organic light-emitting diodes is complex, adding an organic light-emitting diode will increase the manufacturing process of the display panel, increase the complexity of the display panel structure, and increase the manufacturing cost of the display panel.

[0048] This application provides a display panel, a control method for the display panel, and a display device, which can solve some problems existing in the above-mentioned related technologies.

[0049] Figure 2 is a schematic diagram of a display panel provided in an embodiment of this application, and Figure 3 is a cross-sectional schematic diagram of the display panel shown in Figure 2 (the cross-sectional position is AA). Please refer to Figures 2 and 3. The display panel includes a substrate 21.

[0050] Multiple pixel units 22 are located on a substrate 21. Each pixel unit 22 includes a first color light-emitting unit 221, a second color light-emitting unit 222, a blue light-emitting unit 223, and a yellow light-emitting unit 224. The first color light-emitting unit 221, the second color light-emitting unit 222, the blue light-emitting unit 223, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 all include a blue excitation light source bs.

[0051] The first color emitting unit 221 further includes a first color conversion layer (CC) s1 located on the blue excitation light source bs of the first color emitting unit 221; the second color emitting unit 222 further includes a second color conversion layer s2 located on the blue excitation light source bs of the second color emitting unit 222; and the yellow emitting unit 224 further includes a yellow light conversion layer s3 located on the blue excitation light source of the yellow emitting unit. The center wavelength range of the yellow light emitted by the yellow light conversion layer s3 is 565 nanometers (nm) to 575 nanometers. This refers to the center wavelength range of the yellow light emitted by the yellow light conversion layer s3 by the blue light emitted from the blue excitation light source bs being 565 nm to 575 nm.

[0052] It should be noted that Figure 1 illustrates an arrangement of multiple pixel units 22, in which the multiple pixel units 22 are arranged in multiple rows, and the row direction is parallel to one side of the substrate. However, in the display panel provided in this application embodiment, the multiple pixel units can also adopt other arrangement methods, and this application embodiment does not limit this. For example, the multiple pixel units 22 can be arranged in multiple rows, and the row direction has an acute angle (such as 45 degrees) with one side of the substrate, which is a diagonal arrangement method.

[0053] In summary, the display panel provided in this application embodiment includes blue light-emitting units and yellow light-emitting units in its pixel units. The blue light-emitting units can emit blue light from a blue excitation light source, and the blue light excitation light source in the yellow light-emitting units can excite a yellow light conversion layer to emit yellow light. This yellow light can mix with the blue light emitted by the blue light-emitting units to form white light. Compared to white light obtained by mixing red, blue, and green light-emitting units, this method of obtaining white light does not require the participation of a green light conversion layer with lower excitation efficiency, thereby improving the white light efficiency of the display panel. This reduces the power consumption of the display panel, thereby reducing heat dissipation, which is beneficial for making display devices using this display panel thinner and lighter.

[0054] Furthermore, since the display panel provided in this application embodiment uses only a blue excitation light source, compared to display panels that include two colors of excitation light sources, the display panel provided in this application embodiment achieves the effect of simplifying the structure and manufacturing process of the display panel. This can also improve the yield rate of the display panel.

[0055] The white light efficiency of the display panel involved in the embodiments of this application refers to the intensity of light emitted by the display panel under a unit current density (unit: ampere / m² (A / m²)). 2 White light efficiency is measured in candela per ampere (Cd / A). This indicator reflects the energy efficiency of a display panel when generating white light. The higher the value, the better the efficiency of converting electrical energy into light energy, and the lower the energy consumption.

[0056] For a comparison of parameters such as white light efficiency for some solutions, please refer to Table 1:

[0057] Table 1

[0058] Table 1 shows some parameters of the RGB(W) scheme, which achieves white light by mixing red, green, and blue light-emitting units, and some parameters of the YB(W) scheme, which achieves white light by mixing blue and yellow light-emitting units. The relative white light efficiency is a ratio with the white light efficiency of the RGB(W) scheme as a baseline of 100%, and the energy efficiency (energy efficiency refers to the display panel's ability to convert input electrical energy into visible light output) is a ratio with the energy efficiency of the RGB(W) scheme as a baseline of 100%. It can be seen that compared to the RGB(W) scheme, the YB(W) scheme improves the relative white light efficiency by 60%, lifespan by 120%, and energy efficiency by 40%. Therefore, the display panel solution provided in this application, which achieves white light by mixing blue and yellow light-emitting units, not only improves the white light efficiency of the display panel but also extends its lifespan and energy efficiency.

[0059] In one exemplary embodiment, the first color light conversion layer s1, the second color light conversion layer s2, and the yellow light conversion layer s3 are fluorescence conversion layers. Each fluorescence conversion layer includes phosphors, which emit light of a corresponding wavelength (i.e., light of a corresponding color) when irradiated by excitation light, thus achieving the light conversion function. For example, the red fluorescence conversion layer emits red fluorescence when irradiated by excitation light.

[0060] In one exemplary embodiment, the yellow light conversion layer s3 is a quantum dot light conversion layer. The quantum dot light conversion layer comprises quantum dots, which, when irradiated with excitation light, emit light of a corresponding wavelength (i.e., light of a corresponding color), thus achieving the same light conversion function. For example, the red quantum dot conversion layer emits red light when irradiated with excitation light. A quantum dot (QD) is a nanoscale semiconductor particle. Applying a certain electric field or light pressure to a quantum dot causes it to emit light of a specific wavelength. The wavelength of the emitted light is related to the particle size; therefore, the wavelength (i.e., the color of the light) can be adjusted by changing the particle size.

[0061] Figure 4 shows the spectrum of an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panel, and Figure 5 shows the spectrum of a quantum dot display panel. The OLED display panel includes red, blue, and green OLEDs. The quantum dot display panel includes a backlight, a red quantum dot light conversion layer, and a green quantum dot conversion layer. In Figures 4 and 5, the horizontal axis represents wavelength in nanometers, and the vertical axis represents energy intensity; a larger vertical axis indicates greater intensity. Curve x1 shows the intensity of light emitted by the OLED display panel at various wavelengths, and curve x2 shows the intensity of light emitted by the quantum dot display panel at various wavelengths. As can be seen from Figures 4 and 5, the quantum dot display panel has a narrower full width at half maximum (FWHM), a purer spectrum, and higher color saturation. Based on this, in the display panel provided in this embodiment, the yellow light conversion layer s3 is a quantum dot light conversion layer, which can improve the color saturation of the yellow light emitted by the yellow light conversion layer s3, thereby improving the display effect of the display panel. Half-peak width, also known as full peak width, is a term in chromatographic analysis that refers to the width of a chromatographic peak at half its height. It is the distance between two points where a straight line drawn through the midpoint of the peak height intersects the two sides of the peak.

[0062] In the display panel provided in this application embodiment, the yellow light conversion layer, which serves as the quantum dot light conversion layer, may include at least two structures. In one structure, the yellow light conversion layer s3 includes a substrate layer and yellow quantum dots distributed in the substrate layer. When the yellow quantum dots are irradiated with blue light emitted from a blue excitation light source, they emit yellow light. In this application embodiment, the center wavelength of the yellow light ranges from 565 nanometers to 575 nanometers.

[0063] In one exemplary embodiment, the first color light-emitting unit 221 is a red light-emitting unit, and the second color light-emitting unit 222 is a green light-emitting unit. Therefore, the pixel unit 22 includes a red light-emitting unit, a green light-emitting unit, a blue light-emitting unit, and a yellow light-emitting unit. The red, green, and blue light-emitting units can be combined to produce various colors of light, while the blue and yellow light-emitting units can be combined to emit white light.

[0064] When the first color light-emitting unit 221 is a red light-emitting unit, the first color light conversion layer s1 in the first color light-emitting unit 221 is a red light conversion layer. After being excited by blue light emitted by the blue excitation light source bs, the red light conversion layer can emit red light, and the center wavelength of the red light can be in the range of 620 nm to 650 nm. When the second color light-emitting unit 222 is a green light-emitting unit, the second color light conversion layer s2 in the second color light-emitting unit 222 is a green light conversion layer. After being excited by blue light emitted by the blue excitation light source bs, the green light conversion layer can emit green light, and the center wavelength of the green light can be in the range of 510 nm to 540 nm.

[0065] In one exemplary embodiment, the blue excitation source includes a blue light-emitting diode (LED). The blue light emitted by the LED has higher energy than red, green, and yellow light, and can therefore be used as an excitation source for light conversion layers such as red, green, and yellow light conversion layers. Optionally, the blue excitation source includes tandem LEDs, which consist of two or more stacked blue LEDs. This can improve the brightness of the blue excitation source, thereby enhancing its excitation effect on the red, green, and yellow light conversion layers.

[0066] Figure 6 is a schematic diagram of another display panel structure provided in an embodiment of this application, wherein the yellow light-emitting unit 224 further includes a yellow filter layer 1y located on the yellow light conversion layer s3. This yellow filter layer 1y can also be called a yellow color film layer, and its function can include two aspects:

[0067] On the one hand, the yellow filter layer 1y can transmit yellow light and block other colors of light, such as blocking the blue light emitted by the blue excitation light source that is not absorbed by the yellow light conversion layer s3 (this part of the blue light is also called blue leakage). This can improve the color purity of the yellow light emitted by the yellow light-emitting unit 224, thereby improving the display effect of the display panel.

[0068] On the other hand, the reflectivity of the yellow filter layer 1y is lower than that of the yellow light conversion layer s3 and the upper surface of the blue excitation light source bs. This yellow filter layer 1y can prevent ambient light from directly illuminating the yellow light conversion layer s3 or the upper surface of the blue excitation light source bs inside the display panel. This reduces the reflectivity of the yellow light-emitting unit 224 to ambient light, thereby improving the color purity when displaying a pure black image and enhancing the display effect. Furthermore, this also allows the display panel to achieve a completely black effect when the screen is off, improving the user experience.

[0069] It should be noted that when the yellow light conversion layer s3 includes a base layer and yellow quantum dots distributed in the base layer, the yellow filter layer 1y is a filter layer that transmits yellow light and blocks blue light.

[0070] In one exemplary embodiment, the blue light-emitting unit 223 further includes a light-transmitting layer s4 and a blue light-filtering layer 1b. The light-transmitting layer s4 is located on the blue excitation light source bs of the blue light-emitting unit 223, and the blue light-filtering layer 1b is located on the light-transmitting layer s4. The light-transmitting layer s4 can improve the overall flatness of the display panel. The material of the light-transmitting layer s4 can be the same as the material of the base layer of the yellow light conversion layer, except that the light-transmitting layer s4 does not contain quantum dots. Of course, the light-transmitting layer s4 can also be a hollow layer, that is, without a film layer, thus still achieving the function of transmitting blue light.

[0071] Among them, the blue filter layer 1b can also be called the blue color filter layer, and the blue filter layer 1b has two functions:

[0072] On the one hand, the blue filter layer 1b can be used to transmit blue light and block other colors of light, thereby improving the color purity of the blue light emitted by the blue light-emitting unit 223 and improving the display effect of the display panel.

[0073] On the other hand, the reflectivity of the blue filter layer 1b is lower than that of the upper surface of the light-transmitting layer s4 or the blue excitation light source bs. This blue filter layer 1b can prevent ambient light from directly illuminating the upper surface of the light-transmitting layer s4 or the blue excitation light source bs inside the display panel. This reduces the reflectivity of the blue light-emitting unit 223 to ambient light, thereby improving the color purity of the pure black image displayed on the display panel. Furthermore, it also enables a completely black effect when the display panel is off, enhancing the user experience.

[0074] In an exemplary embodiment, the first color light-emitting unit 221 further includes a first color filter layer 1r located on the first color light conversion layer s1, and the second color light-emitting unit 222 further includes a second color filter layer 1g located on the second color light conversion layer s2. The first color filter layer 1r serves two purposes:

[0075] On the one hand, the first color filter layer 1r can transmit the first color light and block other colors of light, such as blocking the blue light emitted by the blue excitation light source bs that is not absorbed by the first color light conversion layer s1. This can improve the color purity of the first color light emitted by the first color light-emitting unit 221, thereby improving the display effect of the display panel.

[0076] On the other hand, the reflectivity of the first color filter layer 1r is less than that of the first color light conversion layer s1 and the upper surface of the blue excitation light source bs. The first color filter layer 1r can prevent ambient light from directly shining on the first color light conversion layer s1 or the upper surface of the blue excitation light source bs inside the display panel. In this way, the reflectivity of the first color light emitting unit 221 to ambient light can be reduced, thereby improving the color purity of the pure black image displayed by the display panel and improving the display effect of the display panel.

[0077] When the first color light-emitting unit 221 is a red light-emitting unit, the first color filter layer 1r is a red filter layer. This red filter layer is used to transmit red light and block light of other colors such as blue light.

[0078] Similarly, the function of the second color filter layer 1g can include two aspects:

[0079] On the one hand, the second color filter layer 1g can transmit the second color light and block other colors of light, such as blocking the blue light emitted by the blue excitation light source bs that is not absorbed by the second color light conversion layer s1. This can improve the color purity of the second color light emitted by the second color light-emitting unit 221, thereby improving the display effect of the display panel.

[0080] On the other hand, the reflectivity of the second color filter layer 1g is lower than that of the second color light conversion layer s1 and the upper surface of the blue excitation light source bs. This second color filter layer 1g can prevent ambient light from directly illuminating the second color light conversion layer s1 or the upper surface of the blue excitation light source bs inside the display panel. This reduces the reflectivity of the second color light-emitting unit 221 to ambient light, thereby improving the color purity of the pure black image displayed on the display panel and enhancing its display effect. Furthermore, it can also achieve a completely black effect when the display panel is off, improving the user experience.

[0081] When the second color light-emitting unit 222 is a green light-emitting unit, the second color filter layer 1g is a green filter layer. This green filter layer is used to transmit green light and block light of other colors such as blue light.

[0082] When the first color light-emitting unit 221 is a red light-emitting unit and the second color light-emitting unit 222 is a green light-emitting unit, since the light conversion efficiency of the green light conversion layer is low, the solution provided in this application embodiment that emits white light by combining a blue light-emitting unit and a yellow light-emitting unit can improve the white light efficiency of the display panel compared to the method of emitting white light by combining a red light-emitting unit, a green light-emitting unit and a blue light-emitting unit.

[0083] For information on the optical conversion efficiency of each optical conversion layer, please refer to Table 2:

[0084] Table 2

[0085] In this diagram, GQD represents the green quantum dot conversion layer, YQD represents the yellow quantum dot conversion layer, RQD represents the red quantum dot conversion layer, and PLQY stands for Photoluminescence Quantum Yield (PLQY). PLQY is a physical quantity that measures the efficiency with which a material converts absorbed light energy into light radiation; it is an indicator of a material's luminous efficiency. Yellow quantum dots absorb blue light more readily, therefore their light conversion efficiency to blue excitation sources is higher than that of green quantum dots. This results in higher white light efficiency for pixel units that include yellow emitting units.

[0086] Please refer to Figure 7, which is a spectrum of a display panel provided in an embodiment of this application. In Figure 7, the horizontal axis represents wavelength in nanometers, and the vertical axis represents energy intensity; a larger vertical axis indicates greater intensity. Curve x3 shows the intensity of light emitted by the display panel at various wavelengths. Curve x31 represents the spectrum of light emitted by the red light-emitting unit, curve x32 represents the intensity of light emitted by the green light-emitting unit, curve x33 represents the spectrum of light emitted by the blue light-emitting unit, and curve x34 represents the spectrum of light emitted by the yellow light-emitting unit. It can be seen that, compared to the spectrum of an organic light-emitting diode display panel, the spectrum of the display panel provided in this embodiment of the application shows narrower full width at half maximum (FWHM) values for various colors, purer spectra, and higher color saturation.

[0087] Figure 8 is another spectral diagram of the display panel provided in this application embodiment. This spectral diagram shows the display panel displaying white light. In Figure 8, the horizontal axis represents wavelength in nanometers, and the vertical axis represents energy intensity; the larger the vertical axis, the greater the intensity. Curve x4 shows the intensity of light emitted by the display panel at various wavelengths. It can be seen that the display panel emits blue light with a center wavelength around 460 nanometers and yellow light with a center wavelength around 570 nanometers. The blue and yellow light mix to form white light. This white light can refer to the color of light with coordinates (CIEx ~ 0.3, CIEy ~ 0.3) in the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) standard.

[0088] In one exemplary embodiment, in a pixel unit, the yellow sub-pixel emits yellow light with 100% intensity and the blue sub-pixel emits blue light with 45% intensity, so that the pixel unit emits white light. Of course, this ratio can be adjusted according to factors such as the size and luminous efficiency of the blue and yellow sub-pixels, and this embodiment does not limit this.

[0089] Figure 9 is a chromaticity diagram of CIE coordinates according to an embodiment of this application. Referring to Figure 9, the horizontal axis is the x-axis, the vertical axis is the y-axis, and the coordinates of the x6 boundary of the graph represent wavelengths in nanometers. Points d1, d2, and d3 are the chromaticity coordinates of light formed by mixing yellow light of different center wavelengths with blue light of the same parameters (the wavelength of blue light can be a value between 440 nm and 470 nm) when the half-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of yellow light is 40 nm. The content shown in Figure 9 can also be found in Table 3.

[0090] Table 3

[0091] The relative white light efficiency in Table 3 refers to the ratio with the white light efficiency at point d2 as 100%. As shown in Figure 9 and Table 3, when the center wavelength of yellow light is 570 nm, the relative white light efficiency of the display panel is 100%, and the color coordinates are relatively close to the white point color coordinates (CIEx ~ 0.3, CIEy ~ 0.3). However, when the center wavelength of yellow light is closer to 565 nm or 575 nm, the color coordinates gradually deviate from the white point color coordinates. Based on this, it can be seen that when the center wavelength of yellow light is less than 565 nm or greater than 575 nm, the color coordinates deviate even further from the white point color coordinates, resulting in poor color accuracy of the white light emitted by the display panel. In other words, when the center wavelength of yellow light is greater than 575 nm or less than 565 nm, the color coordinates of the light mixed with blue light deviate significantly from the white point color coordinates, making it difficult to achieve a pure white effect.

[0092] Therefore, it can be seen that when the center wavelength of yellow light is 570 nanometers, the light mixed with blue light is closer to white light, and the efficiency relative to white light can also reach a higher value.

[0093] Additionally, Figure 10 is a chromaticity diagram of another CIE coordinate system involved in this application embodiment. Please refer to Figure 10. The horizontal axis is the x-axis, the vertical axis is the y-axis, and the coordinates of the x7 boundary of the graph represent wavelengths in nanometers. Points d4, d5, and d6 are the chromaticity coordinates of white light formed by mixing several types of yellow light with different full width at half maximum (FWHM) and blue light with the same parameters (the wavelength of blue light can be a value between 440 nm and 470 nm). The content shown in Figure 10 can also be found in Table 4.

[0094] Table 4

[0095] The relative white light efficiency in Table 4 refers to the ratio with the white light efficiency at point d6 as 100%. As shown in Figure 10 and Table 4, when the center wavelength of yellow light is 570 nm, a smaller half-width at half-maximum (HWHM) results in higher relative white light efficiency. However, changes in HWHM have little impact on the color coordinates of the light produced by mixing yellow and blue light. Therefore, it is evident that by applying a quantum dot light conversion layer to reduce the HWHM of yellow light, the white light efficiency of the display panel can be improved.

[0096] In one exemplary embodiment, please refer to FIG11, which is a schematic diagram of another display panel structure provided in an embodiment of this application. The display panel includes a color filter layer 23, which includes a black matrix pattern 231 and a first color filter layer 1r, a second color filter layer 1g, a blue filter layer 1b, and a yellow filter layer 1y. The black matrix pattern 231 includes multiple openings k, and the first color filter layer 1r, the second color filter layer 1g, the blue filter layer 1b, and the yellow filter layer 1y are respectively located in the multiple openings k. The black matrix pattern 231 can also reduce the reflectivity of the display panel to ambient light, thereby improving the color purity of the pure black image displayed by the display panel and improving the display effect of the display panel.

[0097] In addition, the display panel provided in this application embodiment may also include an encapsulation layer 25, which covers multiple blue excitation light sources bs and is used to protect the blue excitation light sources bs. The blue excitation light sources bs can be blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Since OLEDs are easily affected by external moisture, the encapsulation layer 25 can prevent external moisture from entering the OLEDs. Structures such as a light conversion layer and a filter layer can be located above the encapsulation layer 25 to achieve a structure similar to an ON-cell (where the device is placed on the surface of the display structure). This can reduce the manufacturing difficulty of the display panel and improve the yield.

[0098] The display panel provided in this embodiment may further include a light conversion layer black matrix pattern 24. This light conversion layer black matrix pattern 24 also includes multiple openings. A first color light conversion layer s1, a second color light conversion layer s2, a yellow light conversion layer s3, and a light-transmitting layer s4 are respectively located within the multiple openings of the light conversion layer black matrix pattern 24. This light conversion layer black matrix pattern 24 can also reduce the reflectivity of the display panel to ambient light, thereby improving the color purity of the pure black image displayed by the display panel and enhancing the display effect. Similarly, the display panel provided in this embodiment may also include a light source black matrix pattern 25. This light source black matrix pattern 25 also includes multiple openings. Multiple blue excitation light sources bs are respectively located within the multiple openings of the light source black matrix pattern 25. This light source black matrix pattern 25 can also reduce the reflectivity of the display panel to ambient light, thereby improving the color purity of the pure black image displayed by the display panel and enhancing the display effect.

[0099] In one exemplary embodiment, the black matrix pattern 231 includes at least two stacked sub-film layers, which are co-layered with at least two of the following filter layers: the first color filter layer 1r, the second color filter layer 1g, the blue filter layer 1b, and the yellow filter layer 1y. This eliminates the need for separate manufacturing of the black matrix pattern. Optionally, the black matrix pattern 231 includes four stacked sub-film layers, which are co-layered with the first color filter layer 1r, the second color filter layer 1g, the blue filter layer 1b, and the yellow filter layer 1y, respectively. In other words, the black matrix pattern 231 is made of the same material as the four filter layers, thus improving the light-blocking effect and reducing reflections of the black matrix.

[0100] It should be noted that the two structures involved in the embodiments of this application are co-layer structures, meaning that the two structures are made of the same material through a single photolithography process.

[0101] Optionally, in the at least two stacked sub-film layers included in the black matrix pattern 231, the thickness of any one sub-film layer is positively correlated with the distance between that sub-film layer and the substrate 21. That is, among these at least two sub-film layers, the sub-film layer closer to the substrate is thinner. In this structure, the at least two sub-film layers can be formed sequentially based on their thicknesses, with the thinner sub-film layer formed first and the thicker sub-film layer formed later. This method of forming the thinner sub-film layer first reduces the difficulty of forming the subsequent thicker sub-film layer and facilitates the control of the thickness of the subsequent thicker sub-film layer. In one exemplary embodiment, the blue filter layer 1b is the thinnest, the red filter layer 1r is the thickest, and the green filter layer 1g and the yellow filter layer are of similar thickness. Therefore, when forming these multiple filter layers, the formation order can be blue filter layer 1b, green filter layer 1g, yellow filter layer 1y (yellow filter layer 1y can also be formed before green filter layer 1g), and red filter layer 1r. Correspondingly, the formation order of the sub-film layers on the same layer as these filter layers is also the same. Then, in the direction away from the substrate 21, the sub-film layer on the same layer as the blue filter layer 1b, the sub-film layer on the same layer as the green filter layer 1g, the sub-film layer on the same layer as the yellow filter layer 1y (the yellow filter layer 1y can also be located below the sub-film layer on the same layer as the green filter layer 1g), and the sub-film layer on the same layer as the red filter layer 1r are stacked sequentially.

[0102] Of course, in some exemplary embodiments, the thicker of the two sub-film layers may be formed first, followed by the thinner of the two sub-film layers. This application does not limit this approach.

[0103] Furthermore, the black matrix pattern 231 can also have other structures. For example, the black matrix pattern 231 can be formed from a resin material with light-shielding capabilities. Alternatively, the structure of the black matrix pattern 231 can also refer to related technologies, and the embodiments of this application do not limit this.

[0104] In addition, the substrate 21 in the display panel provided in this application embodiment can be a flexible substrate such as polyimide (PI) or a rigid substrate such as a glass substrate. This application embodiment does not limit this.

[0105] Please refer to Figure 12, which is a schematic diagram of another display panel structure provided in this embodiment. Unlike the display panel shown in Figure 11, the yellow light-emitting unit 224 does not include a yellow filter layer. That is, no yellow filter layer is provided above the yellow light conversion layer s3. In this structure, after the excitation light emitted by the blue excitation light source bs illuminates the yellow light conversion layer s3, the yellow light conversion layer s3 will emit yellow light under the excitation of the excitation light. This yellow light can exit the display panel without passing through the yellow filter layer. Other structures of the display panel shown in Figure 12 can be referred to the relevant description in Figure 11, and will not be repeated here.

[0106] Please refer to Table 5:

[0107] Table 5

[0108] Table 5 shows the ambient light reflectance and relative white light efficiency of various display panels. Here, RGB represents the display panel shown in Figure 1, RGBY1 represents the display panel shown in Figure 12, and RGBY2 represents the display panel shown in Figure 11. Relative white light efficiency is a ratio with RGB white light efficiency as a baseline of 100%. It can be seen that the display panel provided in Figure 11 of this embodiment has a 60% improvement in relative white light efficiency compared to the display panel shown in Figure 1 of the related art. The reflectance of the display panel provided in Figure 11 of this embodiment is 5%, which is basically the same as that of the display panel shown in Figure 1 of the related art. The display panel provided in Figure 12 of this embodiment has a 46% improvement in relative white light efficiency compared to the display panel shown in Figure 1 of the related art. The reflectance of the display panel provided in Figure 12 of this embodiment is 7.3%.

[0109] The applicant discovered that in display and television applications, without the use of an anti-reflective coating (AR film), the ambient light reflectance requirement for the display panel is less than or equal to 5%. As shown in Table 5, the ambient light reflectance of RGBY2 is around 5%, similar to RGB, but the ambient light reflectance of RGBY1 is 7.3%, which does not meet the requirement. Therefore, a polarizing film can be used to reduce the ambient light reflectance. Furthermore, the display panel provided in Figure 12 of this application embodiment can also be applied to devices with lower requirements for ambient light reflectance, such as virtual reality (VR) devices, augmented reality (AR) devices, mixed reality (MR) devices, and extended reality (XR) devices.

[0110] Figure 13 is an enlarged structural diagram of several partial areas in the display panel shown in Figure 2 of this application (Figure 13 can be an enlarged structural diagram of several areas q1 in Figure 2). Please refer to Figure 13, which shows a layout diagram of the light-emitting units in several pixel units. In structure t1, the four light-emitting units are arranged in a 2×2 manner, with the first color light-emitting unit 221 located in the upper left corner, the second color light-emitting unit 222 located in the upper right corner, the blue light-emitting unit 223 located in the lower left corner, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 located in the lower right corner; in structure t2, the four light-emitting units are arranged in a 2×2 manner, with the first color light-emitting unit 221 located in the upper left corner. The sizes of the first-color emitting unit 221, the second-color emitting unit 222, the blue emitting unit 223, and the yellow emitting unit 224 can be different or the same.

[0111] Figure 14 is a schematic diagram of several other enlarged structures of a portion of the display panel shown in Figure 2 of this application (Figure 13 can be a schematic diagram of several enlarged structures of region q1 in Figure 2). Please refer to Figure 14. Figure 14 shows a schematic diagram of the layout of light-emitting units in several pixel units. In structure t5, structure t6 and structure t7, the four light-emitting units are all strip-shaped and arranged along the first direction f1. The first direction f1 is the direction perpendicular to the length direction of the four light-emitting units. In structure t5, along the first direction f1, the first color light-emitting unit 221, the second color light-emitting unit 222, the blue light-emitting unit 223 and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 are arranged in sequence. In structure t6, along the first direction f1, the first color light-emitting unit 221, the blue light-emitting unit 223, the second color light-emitting unit 222 and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 are arranged in sequence. The sizes of the first color light-emitting unit 221, the second color light-emitting unit 222, the blue light-emitting unit 223, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 can be different or the same.

[0112] Figure 15 is a schematic diagram of several other enlarged structures of a portion of the display panel shown in Figure 2 of this application (Figure 15 can be a schematic diagram of several enlarged structures of region q1 in Figure 2). Referring to Figure 15, Figure 15 shows a schematic diagram of the layout of light-emitting units in several pixel units. In addition, Figure 15 also shows a via c in each pixel unit. This via c is used to connect the light-emitting unit to some lines of other layers. The positions of each light-emitting unit will avoid the via c. The diameter of the via c can be 30 micrometers, and the shortest distance between the light-emitting unit and the via c is greater than 10 micrometers.

[0113] In structure t8, via c is located at the upper right corner of the pixel area (the area within the dashed box in Figure 15 can be the pixel area), with yellow light-emitting unit 224 and via c arranged in one row, and first-color light-emitting unit 221, second-color light-emitting unit 222, and blue light-emitting unit 223 arranged in another row; in structure t9, yellow light-emitting unit 224 and second-color light-emitting unit 222 are arranged in one row, and first-color light-emitting unit 221, via c, and blue light-emitting unit 223 are arranged in another row, with via c located between first-color light-emitting unit 221 and blue light-emitting unit 223; in structure t10, yellow light-emitting unit 224 and second-color light-emitting unit 222 are arranged in one row, and first-color light-emitting unit 221, via c, and blue light-emitting unit 223 are arranged in another row, with via c located between first-color light-emitting unit 221 and blue light-emitting unit 223; The two-color light-emitting units 222 are arranged in one row, and the first-color light-emitting unit 221, the via c, and the blue light-emitting unit 223 are arranged in another row, with the via c located at the lower right corner of the pixel area; in structure t11, the via c is located in the middle of the pixel area, and the blue light-emitting unit 223, the first-color light-emitting unit 221, the second-color light-emitting unit 222, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 are located at the four corners of the pixel area and arranged around the via c. The blue light-emitting unit 223, the first-color light-emitting unit 221, the second-color light-emitting unit 222, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 all have notches near the via c to avoid the via c.

[0114] This application provides the structures of the 11 pixel units t1 to t11 described above. The multiple pixel units of the display panel provided in this application may include at least one of these 11 structures.

[0115] Please refer to Table 6:

[0116] Table 6

[0117] Table 6 shows the correspondence between aperture ratio, aperture ratio difference, and reflectivity of some light-emitting units discovered by the applicant. Here, numbers 1 to 7 represent the seven aperture ratio schemes, R represents the aperture ratio of the red light-emitting unit, G represents the aperture ratio of the green light-emitting unit, B represents the aperture ratio of the blue light-emitting unit, Y represents the aperture ratio of the yellow light-emitting unit, and the total aperture ratio is the total aperture ratio of the pixel unit composed of red, green, blue, and yellow light-emitting units in the scheme of that number. The aperture ratio difference is equal to (P... m1 -P m2 ) / (P m1 +P m2 ); where P m1 P represents the luminous area of the luminous unit with the largest luminous area among the four colors of luminous units. m2 This represents the luminous area of the luminous unit with the smallest luminous area among the four colors of luminous units. The reflectance is the ambient light reflectance of the pixel unit in the scheme with this index.

[0118] As shown in Table 6, the reflectivity increases with the increase in aperture ratio. For example, in schemes 1, 2, and 3, the aperture ratio difference gradually increases, and the reflectivity gradually increases from 5.0% to 5.1%. In scheme 3, the aperture ratio difference is greater than 20%. Similarly, schemes 1, 4, and 5 also show a similar trend. Furthermore, it can be seen that when the total aperture ratio exceeds 48%, the reflectivity also increases to 5.5%.

[0119] Table 6 shows a strong correlation between reflectivity and total aperture ratio. Furthermore, increasing the aperture ratio increases device lifetime but also increases reflectivity; conversely, decreasing the aperture ratio affects device lifetime but reduces reflectivity. Therefore, a suitable combination between device lifetime and reflectivity needs to be determined. In this embodiment, within a pixel unit, the first color emitting unit 221, the second color emitting unit 222, the blue emitting unit 223, and the yellow emitting unit 224 satisfy: (P m1 -P m2 ) / (P m1 +P m2 )≤0.2;

[0120] Among them, P m1 P represents the luminous area of the luminous unit with the largest luminous area among the first-color luminous unit 221, the second-color luminous unit 222, the blue luminous unit 223, and the yellow luminous unit 224. m2The light-emitting area is the smallest among the first-color light-emitting unit 221, the second-color light-emitting unit 222, the blue light-emitting unit 223, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224. This limits the difference in aperture ratio between the light-emitting units, thereby reducing the reflectivity of the display panel.

[0121] The light-emitting area of the light-emitting unit is also called the effective light-emitting area of the light-emitting unit. This light-emitting area is the area of the region occupied by the light-emitting unit that actually emits light.

[0122] Optionally, the total aperture ratio of the first color light-emitting unit 221, the second color light-emitting unit 222, the blue light-emitting unit 223, and the yellow light-emitting unit 224 is greater than or equal to 30% and less than or equal to 48%. This limits the range of aperture ratios among the light-emitting units and avoids the problem of high reflectivity when the aperture ratio is too large.

[0123] In summary, the display panel provided in this application embodiment includes blue light-emitting units and yellow light-emitting units in its pixel units.

[0124] In addition, since the excitation light source in the display panel provided in this application embodiment only includes a blue excitation light source, compared with the display panel that includes two colors of excitation light sources, the display panel provided in this application embodiment achieves the effect of simplifying the structure of the display panel and simplifying the manufacturing process.

[0125] Figure 16 is a flowchart of a method for controlling a display panel according to an embodiment of this application. This method can be used to control any of the display panels provided in the above embodiments, and the method includes the following steps:

[0126] Step 1610: Obtain control instructions. The control instructions are used to instruct the first pixel unit among the multiple pixel units in the display panel to emit white light.

[0127] The control commands can be generated by the control component based on the image data to be displayed. For example, embodiments of this application can be applied to a display device, which includes a control component and any of the display panels provided in the above embodiments. The control component can acquire image data and generate control commands based on the image data to control multiple pixel units in the display panel to emit light. The first pixel unit is the pixel unit that emits white light based on the control commands.

[0128] Step 1610: Based on the control command, control the blue light-emitting unit and the yellow light-emitting unit in the first pixel unit to emit light.

[0129] After generating control commands, the control component can control the blue and yellow light-emitting units in the first pixel unit to emit light. The blue light emitted by the blue light-emitting unit and the yellow light emitted by the yellow light-emitting unit are mixed to form white light. This achieves the effect of emitting white light through the blue and yellow light-emitting units. Furthermore, as shown in the above embodiments, the light conversion efficiency of the yellow light conversion layer is greater than that of the green light conversion layer. Therefore, compared to methods that emit white light through red, green, and blue light-emitting units, the method provided in this application that emits white light through yellow and blue light-emitting units can improve parameters such as the white light efficiency, lifespan, and energy efficiency of the display panel.

[0130] Furthermore, embodiments of this application provide a method for controlling a first pixel unit among multiple pixel units. This method can also be used to control any pixel unit in a display panel. Alternatively, the first pixel unit can be a group of pixel units, which may include multiple pixel units among multiple pixel units in the display panel. For example, the first pixel unit may include multiple pixel units in a region of the display panel (which may also be the entire display area of the display panel), and then the pixel units in that region can be controlled to emit white light based on the method provided in embodiments of this application.

[0131] For details not disclosed in the method embodiments of this application, please refer to the device embodiments described above, which will not be repeated here.

[0132] In summary, the display panel method provided in this application is applied to control a display panel whose pixel units include blue light-emitting units and yellow light-emitting units. The blue light-emitting units can emit blue light emitted by a blue excitation light source, and the blue light excitation light source in the yellow light-emitting units can excite a yellow light conversion layer to emit yellow light. This method controls the blue light-emitting units in the first pixel unit to emit blue light and the yellow light-emitting units to emit yellow light, so as to mix them to obtain white light. Compared with white light obtained by mixing red, blue, and green light-emitting units, this method of obtaining white light does not require the participation of a green light conversion layer with lower excitation efficiency, thereby improving the white light efficiency of the display panel. This reduces the power consumption of the display panel, thereby reducing heat dissipation, which is beneficial for the thinning and lightening of display devices using this display panel.

[0133] Furthermore, this disclosure also provides a display device, which includes a housing and any of the display panels provided in the above embodiments.

[0134] The display device can be any electronic device with display function, such as mobile phone, tablet computer, monitor, television, laptop computer, vertical display screen, outdoor display screen, smart watch, smart bracelet, camera and camcorder, etc., which will not be listed here.
